One thing that always baffles me and that I legit continuously forget about because it's such a weird concept to me is that lots of people think that to "ship" a pairing is to view it as completely healthy and ideal for both characters involved, and to thus want it to be canon.

But that's... just not the case with so many ships??

Think of it this way. I could legitimately see a ship as "relationship goals" and "should be canon", but I could just as easily see it as a thriller or toy train crash or a way to vent about my own, real issues that I've had to overcome.

When I watch a horror movie, I don't necessarily want my favorite characters in it to die. And even when I do want people to die, it's not because I think it's a good thing?? It's because I know it's fake and it's fun to watch or think about. It's fun to play superhero punching the bad guy. It's fun to play games where you set people on fire or make a giant fish swallow them.

And when I "ship" something ungodly toxic or downright awful, it's not because I'm under any impression that it represents a relationship that should be imitated or strived for. It's because it's thrilling. It's exciting. It's weird. It's even uncomfortable sometimes, but it's uncomfortable in a therapeutic way.

I've never seen someone ACTUALLY glorifying the unhealthy aspects of their favorite ship. I only ever see people playing toy trains or coping with trauma.

And it's goddamn bizarre to me that so many people think of "shipping" as an inherently prescriptive thing when it's actually just a game.

It's just a game.

It's JUST A GAME.

I love the fact that Jorge told us that the electric guitar shows up when Odysseus is using his cunning, because that adds such delicious irony when it shows up again RIGHT after he begins to reveal his true identity, as if it's more like Odysseus thinks he's having such a good moment, but then the music cuts and it's just him screaming his name with no narrative praise behind it because that's the worst choice he could have made at that moment.

Alright, I'm gonna be louder about it now because the situation is dire. Ang/Vee (@/Atherist on Twitter) is in a terrible position, and they will die if nothing improves. They're in full survival mode, and that's not enough anymore. They NEED help. They need more money than I will ever have at once.

I don't know if they would want me giving details since they have locked their Twitter where they've posted about it, and I don't have enough of a reach to make any difference, so I'm going to look for people that do.

If anyone wonders why I would fixate on this one person even though lots of other people are struggling too, I'll be transparent and say, because it's not fair.

Everything that's happening to them is the long-term result of vicious abuse that ruined their career. It was intentional.

Horrible, vindictive, monstrous people DID THIS TO THEM. They did it out of spite, because they could, because they wanted a scapegoat for their own shitty friend drama, whatever. They lied and slandered them and stalked them and caused them IMMENSE trauma, and that. is not. FAIR.

If Ang dies, it will be THOSE people's faults. I don't care how long ago it was. They intended to, and succeeded in, taking away all the income and support they had, and PEOPLE NEED THOSE THINGS TO LIVE.

I will consider them murderers if Ang dies. And this outcome isn't fair.

Buhh buhh "life isn't fair", I know.

But I'm just doing what I can. It's all I can do. There's someone in front of me being killed and I can't just sit there and wait for it. Even if I fail to make a difference.

So I bring this attempt to paint a picture of WHY I care. Why I'm doing this.

I hate injustice. It tears me to shreds more than anything else on this earth. And if I can help, I WILL. I want to.

If Ang sees this: I promise I won't put myself in any financial trouble over this. I have a partner who wouldn't let that happen, and my bills are always paid. But I'm going to do everything I CAN. Because I want to. Because it's right. It's not a burden. You deserve better.

Hoping this damn thing uploads in good enough quality. I made the mistake of making an AMV for TikTok with copyrighted music that was also longer than a minute, so even though I found a perfect replacement, it cuts off in the middle. 🙃

An article I wrote to call out the many parallels I saw between the movie's queer representation and themes of demonization, and what I’ve observed as someone with “undesirable” kinks that get me treated as an Other by all the other people society already sees as “freaks”.

🚫 NOT an attempt to “replace” the true theme of the movie or to claim that the writers had “proshippers” in mind when they made it, but merely to add another perspective on top of the canon one, as a queer kinkster myself, because I just felt so intensely seen by this movie.

You know what? I'm tired of wearing the "pro-fiction" label like a Scarlet Letter, as if I'M the freak of society that needs to warn people of my existence, and not the people who relentlessly hunt down random artists for lines on paper and constantly lie about what they're really arguing about because they KNOW they're wrong. Respecting people's sexualities should be the norm. I would have thought a bunch of young queer people would fucking know that.

From now on, I'm not dignifying this "shipping discourse" with its watered down jargon. There's no "antis" or "proshippers" or whatever the fuck. If you're a BULLY who takes their hatred for the injustices of the world out on small marginalized creators, get the fuck away from me.

YOU'RE the one who's ruining fandom spaces and making innocent people feel unsafe. YOU'RE the one with a screw loose. YOU'RE the one who's a danger to kids. Go take some time to figure out why you think it's righteous and justified to tell people to kill themselves, EVER; to call entire clusters of queer people pedophiles and groomers; to echo the exact rhetoric of fundamentalist Christians and fear-mongering bigots in everything you say.

"Antishippers" are just the newest rebranding of the "Violent videogames will turn kids into mass murderers" and "Harry Potter / D&D will lead to devil worship and demon possession" crowds. You're the same. You've just somehow managed to convince yourself that you're different because you package your horrible behavior in leftist wrapping.

But you're just bullies, and I want nothing to do with you, and it's time people realized that they don't want anything to do with you either. Wake the fuck up and realize who you're really fighting for. Because it's not marginalized people, it's not abuse survivors, and it's certainly not children. Fuck off.

I'm not "pro-fiction." I'm a normal fucking person with a job, a loving family and husband, the best dog ever, and a bunch of stories to create. You can either be a fellow regular person back at me or you can eat my dust.

Alright, I was encouraged by the smol family of HeroKel shippers on here, so now that I have my ass in order, here's the Headspace Abuse AU I spawned out of some horny energy last month. xD

CONTENT WARNINGS: Physical abuse, neglect, gaslighting(?), spiders, brocon/incest if you choose to see it ;3 Also spoilers for Omori!

In one of the playthroughs of Omori I really like, they have this ongoing joke where Kel is just bullied all the time, especially by Hero and Aubrey. Every time Kel says anything, Hero says stuff like, "Kel, I'm going to BEAT YOU when we get home" or "Ohh Keeeel, I'm getting the BELT!!" and it's just met with Kel screaming, "NOOOO NOT AGAIN PLEASE!" and everyone's laughing about it and stuff. And man, I'm REALLY not usually into any kind of incest kinks (just personally not my thing), but I'd lowkey be fine with an rp/fic where Hero just abuses Kel all the time and has him basically trained to obey and cower out of fear. x'D

Adding onto that, I also had so much fun with the Basil deaths in Black Space, so now I just imagine like Basil is the Kenny of the group, and he just dies horrible deaths all the time and comes back later, and no one even bats an eye beyond giggling or saying, "Oh wow, he's gonna feel that in the morning, tee hee!"

And then when Basil goes missing, Hero and Aubrey start putting Kel through a lot more shit because even they they don't really notice it, Basil's constant deaths and pained screaming do keep them pretty entertained.

Omori isn't phased by any of it ofc, since he's kiiiind of the one pulling the strings here.

I'm not sure how Mari would respond to everything. Maybe it would be funny if she just acted like she always does and almost as if the stuff happening is just silly goofy bickering or stubbed toes, and she'll say stuff like, "Awww, don't worry, Basil! All you have to do for a spider bite is (I don't even know, but like generic advice for a single, non-venonous spider bite)!" And Basil is just like, "-gross sobbing- O-okay...!" while being devoured alive by a billion spiders or chomped in half by a giant one ahahaha.

Then she'll tell Kel, "Aww, Hero got mad at you? Well... you did step on his foot after all. But just apologize and talk it over and I'm sure he'll come around in no time! ^u^" and this is like, what you tell someone if all the angry person did was snap at them or get upset and leave for a bit. But Hero literally broke a branch off the nearest tree and beat Kel with it until it broke lmao.

It's like... ultra horrific tbh? But I kind of love soaking in more of that type of freaky shit. It's almost appealing BECAUSE it's the absolute last thing that should ever be happening??

Kel is an absolute sweetie and deserves the world, Hero is a kind and patient big brother who immediately apologized and improved himself the one time he was ever really mean to Kel, and Aubrey is honestly a very good person despite putting on an edgy face when she got older and trying to push people away. She's never out to truly hurt anyone.

So it's kinda fun to twist them up in this awful way, especially since the game itself kind of already did most of the work for me and all I did was enjoy that and also take a meme from a video series and run with it.

I mean holy shit, there's legit a whole scene in Black Space where Basil's DW friends all beat him to death and then act like everything is normal and fun. It's CANON, and everything I wrote here is of a similar caliber, just with the invitation to view it as abusive shipping if the reader desires.

Basically I'm roleplaying with myself and enjoying the sadistic story I end up with x'D

This new term I discovered is such a breath of fresh air. Peacefic, coined by @peacefiction.

God, yes, thank you. Holy crap.

Please, if people want to use this, use it right?? I like my labels to mean something. I can't comfortably call myself proship anymore because it doesn't signify the same thing to literally anyone. I have to reasonably assume that there's a significant amount of people who would genuinely think I'm just calling myself a MAP (I'm not -_-). Like, that's just how it is now. I can't change that. That is the reality of how that label is perceived.

I might start going with neutral/neuship/neufic anyway because I've um, discovered stuff about myself (and about antis) recently. And at least the word neutral is like, meant to be vague? That's fine?

The peacefic ideals are the most important to me. If I tell someone I'm peacefic proship, it should immediately disqualify the connotation of the creep who supports literally everything, even exploitative fiction, and the label combo should also keep the "fiction doesn't equal reality 1:1" thing.

But again I still might not even use anymore proship synonyms for myself because they're going to get fucked by the same problem where my label is meant to give people a quick idea of my beliefs, but it fails to do that and puts a target on me.

Not that I'm the center of the universe or anything. I'm kinda just ranting to the void.

Also this is like completely a shower thought, so feel free to disregard it as me being obsessed with labels and compartments actually, like that's true regardless if I have a point or not lmao—

Why haven't I been calling the types of antis and the types of proshippers I really REALLY don't like "rad-shippers"? Like, we already have this kinda tier-list I've been seeing of inclus, radinclus, and then radqueer. And those terms make sense to me.

So yeah, like...

Proshippers that can't fucking handle criticism of media or how we engage with it, who support explicit rpf of minors, who are free speech absolutists, who jump onto any post that possibly states a dislike for their kink and antagonizes the OP, who think it's okay to trigger antis on purpose, etc.... rad-proshippers.

Antis who think depiction = endorsement no matter what, who think every kink and ship is a direct line to your most raw beliefs and intentions, who think having taboo fictional interests like incest ships or whatev makes you a morally reprehensible person, who reject critical thinking about how and why a story may be insensitive, and/or who think it's okay to harass people for their tagged, properly filtered, or private dark smut... rad-antis.

I dunno! I think it fits. Hell, even ignoring any mention of harassment: I'm so sick of antis who push the narrative that you must NECESSARILY be morally bankrupt and/or predatory for having a rape kink or something, and I'm so sick of proshippers who jump out of their skin at the mere mention of criticism/responsibility and shut down discussions of it.

We're just weirdos on the internet! Just because one person says "I think things should be like this" doesn't mean it WILL be like that if you don't Challenge™ them, and also it doesn't even necessarily mean that person wants the authority to make all their opinions enforceable! I dunno man.

(Possible spoilers for the media each ship is from)

—–- Singed + Silco (Arcane): I'm actually so new to this ship, but my brain suddenly decided to hyperfixate on Singed, and Silco was already one of my favorites too, so just... dubiously united villain couple hello??

The fan fics I've read of them so far are delicious as fuck, and the artwork I've seen is juuuust amazing. Wholesome stuff, dark stuff. I love it all.

And I love the idea of Powder occasionally interacting with Singed, and like he's not really her dad (he's Viktor's heh), but he's still a second wise adult figure in her life, and he uses his thorough understanding of what makes Silco tick to help Powder with communicating with him (or hiding certain little things from him huehue).

Singed is the only character that Silco is never once seen so much as manipulating, let alone intimidating or threatening. I like to think Silco knows that Singed is kind of in a league of his own, and that if he tried to boss him around in the wrong way, Singed could very easily end him in his sleep. Or worse. :3

Though I don't think they hold any animosity towards each other. I don't see it as a very tense relationship. If anything, I like to imagine that they care about each other in some sort of way. Sure, it's partially because Silco provides the space, funds, and test subjects while Singed provides vital medical help and, well, Shimmer. But I'm a sap, so maybe there's a slight bit more there, I dunno!

—–- Misaka + Kuroko (A Certain Scientific Railgun): Listen. Surgically remove Kuroko's... egh, Problem. And you have an utterly gorgeous relationship.

OR, at the very least, actually do something with her obsessive nature! Tell a real story with it. I literally went through a similar (not sexual) thing in real life, and I have told the story of how I overcame it. I would ADORE seeing Kuroko remain problematic, but then grow past it, and learn to respect Misaka fully.

But if noooot... there's always the option to just get rid of it entirely because holy shit is Kuroko's admiration and trust in Misaka beautiful. The way Kuroko lays down her life her, appears in an instant to aid her, forces herself not to pester her for days and weeks despite agonizing over whether Misaka is okay... The way she takes pride and comfort in doing those things for her, how she calls out her name lovingly while fighting for her. It touches my heart so much, man.

And Misaka, despite how often Kuroko annoys her, knows she can rely on her and be vulnerable around her. She values Kuroko's thoughts and cares how she feels about her, past all that Level 5 "Ace of Tokiwadai" stuff. She's protective of all her friends, of course, but I always imagine that she holds herself double responsible for Kuroko's safety. She's who she thinks of first, every time. Misaka recognizes when Kuroko is pushing herself too hard, and she softens in such a genuine, nurturing way to assure her that she can rest easy.

The level of dedication these two have for each other is wonderful, and how could I not ship them?

—–- Aizawa + Toshinori (My Hero Academia): Honestly, I like a lot of MHA ships, but this was my first OTP for that series, and it's simply because despite having a very prickly start, their relationship grows into this very gentle mutual respect and protectiveness of one another, and it's just... so cute! And it hurts me so much.

I've read a lot of fics, written a lot of roleplays, seen a lot of art, and watched a lot of AMVs. I feel such a deep heart-throbbing when I see them together. Caring, protecting, sacrificing, mourning, fighting, regretting, saving, comforting....

Sometimes I don't even know how to describe it, but I have cried over these two so many times. I want them to be happy. I want to see them suffer on the way there. I want them to recognize their own inner demons when they look into the other's eyes, and then commit to being better because of each other. I've seen them through every AU I could think of within—god, however many years I was in love with them. And I can still remember why.

—–- Rouxls Kaard + Spade King (Deltarune): So I find both of these characters unfairly attractive in many fanarts, and they are one of my favorite mutually toxic relationships.

I credit one of my friends and his amazing unfinished series about them for the way I now envision them and how they interact. Spade could likely be called abusive simply due to his violent nature and power over Rouxls (both physical and social), but Rouxls is a manipulative, lying little weasel who is using Spade as much as Spade is using him.

Neither one of them have a damn clue how to treat another person right, though they both try and succeed (more often than not) with Lancer. Perhaps it's his innocence in all this, but unlike their terrible, broken relationship with each other, their relationships with Lancer are actually strong and outwardly loving.

Spade isn't nearly as aggressive with him as everyone else, he does what he thinks will make his son happy, and while he may sometimes be clipped, he isn't dismissive. Meanwhile, Rouxls tells himself Lancer is not his son and shouldn't be his responsibility, but dammit he loves the kid anyway! Lancer's smile brightens his day, and Rouxls will even risk getting himself in trouble with the king in order to give Lancer happiness. He puts off his own wants for him, does what he can to comfort him when he's sad, and frets QUITE heavily about his safety (albeit that one has a double-motive—obviously the king would kill his dumb ass if Lancer got hurt under his watch, but that's beside the point, he sayeth!)

Anyway yeah, Dad and Lesser Dad plz.

I can't overstate how much I love seeing fiction depict complex, nuanced relationships with plenty of toxic elements to examine. It's a way to relate some of their traits to my past mistakes, or even my current flaws. It helps me understand myself better. Also it's hot! x3

And really wholesome if the characters manage to actually improve themselves and start showing real affection and care for each other.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

It was actually a genuinely awesome time and I didn't expect it to keep my attention like it did. Great mix of funny and serious! I enjoyed it a lot!

I feel like when people say that the first few episodes of Bojack Horseman are bad, what they really mean is that they don't show off the show's full potential. They don't display the aspects of the show that everyone raves about. They're simpler and kind of just funny and a bit more formulaic and predictable than even the later comedy.

Or they might just genuinely mean that the episodes suck? But I personally enjoy them and I often listen to Bojack for the comedy as much as the darker stuff, so that's just me. I love this show. <3
