Has Namor ever reclaimed the McKenzie name? I remember he rejected it or something. Why everyone keeps using it?
The surface dwellers use his human name, Namor McKenzie or they call him The Sub-Mariner. He uses it too, but it's mostly on the surface world.
All New Invaders (2014) #10 - Prince Namor McKenzie
Tumblr media
In the ocean and Atlantis Namor goes by many titles:
Prince Namor
Namor the First
The Avenging Son
The Sub-Mariner
Imperius Rex
Namor Fen-Son
Namor, Son of Fen
Son of Atlantis
Prince of the Blood
Prince of Atlantis
Prince Namor the First
Prince of Destiny
Scion of the Seas
Sea Lord
King Namor
King Namor the First
King of the Seas
Sea King
Phoenix King
Avenger of the Deep
Lord of the Seven Seas
Sovereign Monarch of Atlantis
Lord of the Undersea World
Emperor of the Deep
Supreme Commander of the Undersea Legions
As you see Names & Titles are important in Atlantean Society. A notable comic about his names: Namor, The Sub-Mariner (1990) #37 - Namor is called Namor McKenzie (the Atlanteans pronounce it Mak Kenzee) by Suma-Ket, the Ancient King of Atlantis. (He also has a few titles: Suma Ket, Prophet King of Ancient Atlantis, Lord of the Old Ones, The Dark King, The Devil-King).
Tumblr media
Namor asserts he is "Namor, Son of Fen"
Tumblr media
Suma-Ket once again calls him, Namor Mak-Kenzee after capturing Namor.
Tumblr media
Namor shows his true strength and breaks free to fight Suma-Ket. Who is surprised because he thought Namor was weak (bc he's half human).
Namor once again asserts his princely birth and says he's the Annointed Avenging Son (because his mother named him Namor which means "Avenging Son" in Atlantean)
Tumblr media
When Namor's true strength/power is shown Suma-Ket calls him, Fen-Son. Acknowledging his legitimacy.
Tumblr media
So Namor has always gone by his father's (Captain Leonard McKenzie) last name but he was raised by his mother, Princess Fen, alone and views himself more closely tied to his mother and Atlantis. Do he is Namor Fen-Son, much like how Fen is called Daughter of Tha-Korr or Andromeda is called Andromeda Attumasen (Her father is Attuma)
I love Fen's other titles too
Princess Fen
Princess of the Blood
Beautiful Goddess of the Seals
Queen of Sharks
Empress Fen
As I was writing this out I recalled another time where his name came into question and I think this must be what you were asking about:
In The Order (2007) #7 Namor renounced the name McKenzie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my opinion people shouldn't read too much into this comic because it's clear the writer set up Namor to be used for the main character's plot of being the new guy who has to handle high profile situations.
Namor rarely, if ever lies, in 90% of his comics, he's one of the most honest and brutally in your face about speaking the truth characters in comics. The other 10% percent is when writers don't know his character. lol.
It's clear in this comic that Namor is angry because his people have no home again and he wants to embrass Tony Stark (due to the events of Namor (2007) limited series) and he wishes to become a political prisoner to further his plans to help the Atlanteans (it makes no sense to me at all plus at this time Namor was living in Latveria with Doctor Doom, this comic just ignores that I guess) and he is being difficult on purpose (more than his usual difficult self, lol) and rejects his human name even lying about the events of his mother and father's meeting. The main character calls Namor out for the lies and ends up saving the day.
So while I do enjoy Namor being abrasive mostly this comic just doesn't fit with the rest of his character history but I understand that sometimes writers do things for the sake of the plot.
So I guess to wrap up your question: Namor never actually rejects the McKenzie name (really The Order is the only time I remember this happening), however he views himself more as his mother's son, and a Son of Atlantis, than he does as his father's son. He does acknowledge his father and that he is his father's son but it's not as important to his character as his mother is.
Everyone uses McKenzie because it's his name and I guess it's shorter than his many titles. lol. People call him Namor or The Sub-Mariner more often. Honestly I only see his last human name used sparingly in all the hundreds of comics he has.
Namor's struggle with his human/atlantean parentage is always interesting to read about.

What are your favorite Namor stories?
Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #33 is perhaps my all time favorite Namor story. I also enjoy every time Namor and Doom are in a comic together. However for my all time favorite Namor story arcs it would have to be King in Black: Namor (2020), Sub-Mariner (2007), and the Suma-Ket & Artys Gran arc in Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) 29-40. Silver Age Namor comics, and anything with Defenders or the Invaders is always my favorite stuff to read too! I have alot of favorite comics. lol.

Namor the Sub-Mariner #40
Strong ending.
Final confrontation with Suma-Ket.
No surprises here. The elements that turn the tide are ones we can see coming. But they still work well in this talky concluding chapter. Without doubt, this has been the best story arc we've had in the title since it started. It's a great pity Harras isn't staying on as writer.
On Sale Date: May 4, 1993.

True to his seafaring roots, Aquaman has wielded various tridents throughout his long history, from the classic Trident of Neptune, which was forged by the Cyclops out of adamantine and Neptune's own essence, to the Trident of Poseidon, “a talisman of the sea god's favor,” according to the DC Comics Encyclopedia.
Namor was given a copy the Trident by Neptune after completing a series of quest to prove his worthiness for the Throne of Atlantis. Namor's original copy was broken by Jacqueline Trufaut using the copy she found in the ruins of Pontus. Namor used the trident to inflict a deadly blow to Suma-Ket.

In Marvel’s What If…? episode 4, Doctor Strange absorbs mystical inter-dimensional monsters to gain their powers in an ill-fated quest for control – but who or what are these mystical creatures? Rather than small changes to the timeline or switching roles between heroes, What If…? takes its darkest turn yet by showing Stephen Strange losing not his hands, but Christine Palmer, the love of his life. Potentially foreshadowing events in Phase 4 of the MCU, this episode reveals what could happen if the Sorcerer Supreme insists on reversing an irreversible point in the timeline. And along the way, it leaves viewers with more than a couple Marvel Easter eggs.
Easily the biggest among them is O’Bengh, the keeper of Cagliostro’s books. After failing to stop Christine’s death, the Ancient One explains that her death is “an absolute point in time,” as it triggers Strange’s path towards being the Sorcerer Supreme and an Avenger. Defying these warnings, Doctor Strange travels to the Lost Library of Cagliostro for answers, and there he meets O’Bengh.
Related: The MCU Shows Loki Learned The Lesson Doctor Strange Didn’t
In the comics, O’Bengh is Cagliostro himself and an adversary of Doctor Strange. While O’Bengh seems harmless in What If…?, he allows Strange free access over dangerous knowledge and lets him summon and absorb mystic creatures in the Lost Library. After Strange fails to control his first monster, O’Bengh explains that “Mystic beings do not bargain,” indirectly suggesting a darker path. Whether or not O’Bengh is Cagliostro – which would explain why he let Strange go over the deep end – is just one of the many unanswered questions in episode 4 of What If…? Moreover, who or what are the beasts that Doctor Strange summoned and absorbed on his path to becoming Strange Supreme?
Tumblr media
The first unfortunate creature in Strange’s path is a living garden gnome. He quickly and unceremoniously absorbs the monster. The gnome could be a reference to either Elseworlds or Asgard, or just the fact that fans have been known for painting garden gnomes as tiny versions of the Avengers and other Marvel characters.
Tumblr media
Rather than absorbing the giant caped cockroach – remarking that he draws the line at bugs – Strange instead steals the creature’s cloak, which becomes this strange doctor’s Cloak of Levitation. While the bug is unfamiliar to Marvel comics fans, others have noticed that the creature bears a striking resemblance to the noble cockroach Kyouhukou, which appeared in the anime series Overlord.
Tumblr media
While the giant bird with six eyes and blue flames does bear a resemblance to the Phoenix Force, which possessed mutant telepath Jean Grey, it’s highly unlikely that they are one and the same. If Strange manages to summon the Phoenix Force, it would most likely happen further down the menagerie, rather than right after the comic relief. That being said, absorbing this mystic bird is Strange Supreme’s first real taste of vampiric power.
Related: Evil Doctor Strange Is A Scarlet Witch Power Warning
Tumblr media
The massive red dragon that Strange summons to the circle could be Shou-Lao the Undying, an immortal dragon from the comics which Iron Fist had to defeat to complete his final test. There’s a chance that this could foreshadow Phase 4 of the MCU bringing Iron Fist back into the fray.
Tumblr media
Although the two-headed ram with glowing green eyes and mouths doesn’t appear in the comics, it could symbolize one of Marvel’s Heliopolitans, Atum, also known as the supreme Egyptian god Amon-Ra. In ancient sculptures, Amon-Ra is often represented as a two-headed ram, and is known as a protector.
Tumblr media
The flying, caped, and glowing green skull attached to an unnamed sorcerer’s body is quickly absorbed as it attempts to attack Strange Supreme. Old Marvel comics fans have remarked that this creature is reminiscent of Suma-Ket of the Unforgiven Dead, an old nemesis of Namor the Sub-Mariner. And it could foreshadow the potential involvement of Namor in Black Panther 2.
Related: Marvel Just Showed How The Ancient One Can Return In Doctor Strange 2
Tumblr media
This creature might be a reference to Jimmy Santini, also known as Batwing, an enemy of Spider-Man. The character first appeared in Untold Tales of Spider-Man. After absorbing the creature, Strange overhears The Watcher weighing the consequences of intervening with his dark path – his first and last warning.
Tumblr media
Ignoring The Watcher’s warnings, Strange Supreme goes on to summon more mystic beings to absorb. This includes a moose spirit, which could be a reference to Oranah, also known as The Stag God, who appeared in Marvel’s Savage Sword of Conan comics.
Tumblr media
This serpent is also reminiscent of Shou-Lao the Undying. However, the creature also looks very similar to the dragon that escaped Muspelheim and tried to attack Thor during the crazy opening of Thor: Ragnarok.
Related: Why Doctor Strange’s Car Crash Isn’t His Absolute Point In Time
Tumblr media
The wolf with a blue flame above its head is possibly a reference to the Capcom video game character Okami Amaterasu, which is based on the Japanese celestial sun goddess Amaterasu. It wouldn’t be that strange, as Okami is a playable character on both Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Tumblr media
The snake could represent Fu-Hsi, the King of the Vipers from Marvel Premiere Comics. It could also be Set from Conan the Barbarian, or even the demon Sligguth, whom Strange has faced in the comics.
Tumblr media
Strange also summons a number of demons which appear to be from the Dark Dimension, which explains why some of them resemble Dormammu from the Doctor Strange movie. This could also be a reference to Marvel’s Lovecraftian Old Gods, which perfectly sets up the last creature.
Tumblr media
Bearing a resemblance to Red Skull’s Tesseract monster from What If…? episode 1, the tentacle monster is actually the first mystic being that Doctor Strange summons in episode 4. But while it overpowers him during their first encounter, Strange is more than ready to absorb the mystic being the second time around, which almost completes his transformation as Strange Supreme. As fans have theorized, this monster could be Shuma-Gorath, an eldritch god whose reality-altering powers are congruent with what Strange Supreme aspired – yet ultimately failed – to accomplish.

hello :) i have very recently gotten into namor comics and i wanted to know, what are your favorite arcs/solos hes had? i hope its not too much of a bother. thank you and i hope youre doing well. ^_^
Hello and welcome. It's always a pleasure to speak with Namor fans ❤️ Thanks for asking, I'm well and I hope you are too.
Series:
King in Black: Namor - It's wonderfully written and gives us great lore and character moments. It's written by Kurt Busiek who really knows the character. The artwork is amazing, drawn by two different artists but I have to point out how much I really enjoy the colorists' work. The way they chose to make present day Namor scenes all muted colors, like the ocean is sick and dying, meanwhile his past scenes has such vibrant color.
Sub-Mariner: The Depths - I'm a big horror fan so this was a perfect combination of horror and Namor. I wish this would someday be adapted into a short animation or live action film. Ribic's art carries the whole comic, you could understand it just by the art alone, tho the writing is great too.
Sub-Mariner (2007) - Honesty I feel this series is criminally under rated, it's one of my favorite modern takes on Namor. I do have a couple of criticisms of the plot/ending but overall this series is favorite, love the artwork, love the premise and Namor's characterization.
The Sub-Mariner (1968) - I'm a big fan of Silver Age Namor and this series has lots of great comics but some do drag on at point. Personal favorites, Namor vs The Thing and Namor meeting Betty again in #8, Dorma being possessed by the Serpent Crown in #9. Gonna stop there before I go digging to find every issue I loved, bc there's just a lot there, like I love Tigershark's introduction/stories and Namor and Diane's friendship, and the quest for Namor's father etc.
Arc's:
Tales to Astonish: The Quest for Neptune's Trident #70-76. (To be fair I do love a lot Tales to Astonish but I'm just trying to pick out arcs that I reread alot.)
Namor goes insane in space: Uncanny X-Men (1963) Annual 3 (2001), Steve Rogers: Super Soldier Annual 1, Namor: The First Mutant Annual 1
Suma-Ket & Artys-Gran Arc - Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #30-40. Dark Undersea High Fantasy arc, love it.
Solo Comics:
Marvel Fanfare (1982) #16 & 43, both these are solo adventures
Marvel Snapshot: Sub-Mariner (2020) - I can never get enough of this comic, told from Betty's pov, its wonderful.
Avengers: Emperor Doom - I love every time Namor and Doom team up or interact but if I had to pick one time it's this.
What if? Sub-Mariner (2011) - Love love this story by Greg Pak of Namor growing up on land.
The Judgement of Namor - Dark Reign: The Cabal - Namor takes court and deals with his subjects. An excellent look into Namor's role as the monarch of Atlantis.
Marvel (2020) #3 - I loved the sketch arts of the comic that was unfinished, it had been around for decades but when Marvel finally printed it in full I was so happy. I still prefer the sketchy art but I thought this was a fun adventure and Namor is in a suit, lol.
Marvel Comics Presents: (1988) #33 - All time favorite Namor comic, #1 spot in my heart. (2007) #7 - Namor mourns Nita's death (2019) #1 - A heavy story by Greg Pak about WWll
Tales of the Marvels: Inner Demons - a look at Namor while he was an amnesiac
I haven't even started on character team up comics or team books and if I start on those I won't stop. lol. I'll put a link here to my 2019 comic reading guide that can help you find most major arcs. I hope you enjoy reading!

Atlantean Magic 101
A crash course in artifacts and history of Atlantean Magic.
The Logomancer: An Atlantean Scientist/Mage
The highest class of Atlantean Mage is the Royal Logomancer, though other lesser sorcerers, witches, and magic users are present throughout Atlantean society. Unlike most human magicians, Atlanteans use not only the mystic arts but also their advanced science to combine magic, Logos (science) Mage (magia) the balance between science and magic is always the key element to anything.
Magic is said to sound like a song to those whom are drawn to it.
The Logomancer wields magic, the King cannot. However all magic flows through the King because of his royal blood. The King’s words can hold the power to cast blessings.
Adepts: Atlanteans who have the potential to become a Mage/Logomancer.
The Sacra: A ritual which turns an Adept into a Logomancer, once one is a Logomancer all earthly connections are cut from them and they can not take a mate or be tied to another; emotionally, spiritually, or physically. For the ritual to be complete it requires the King’s Blessing.
First Mutant #11
Tumblr media
Blood Magic:
Blood magic is very important, especially if it is the blood of Royalty because the royals of Atlantis were descended from Neptune so their blood carries many magical properties. Their blood can be used to open doorways into other realms. Lock objects away which only they can unlock through their blood. They themselves can be used by Logomancers to enhance their bodies for the protection of the sunless realm. Sacrificial magic falls under this category where a sorcerer may sacrifice a person to gain power or accomplish a task.
Examples of Blood Magic in Atlantis:
Lord Byrrah’s blood is drained and opens the doorway to another world, freeing Suma-Ket: Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #35
Tumblr media
Only the blood of a King or Queen of Atlantis can lock/unlock the Vault of Law (a vault in which dangerous things are kept like Dracula’s head):
Namor the First Mutant (2010) #2
Tumblr media
Namor drains Thakorr of his blood for an incantation: First mutant #4
Tumblr media
Abira uses her abilities as a Logomancer to wield power through Namor. First Mutant #11
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Healing Sex magic: Ancient Atlantean ritual that can be used to heal.
Satana uses her magic to heal Namor. Thunderbolts (1997) #165
Tumblr media
The Scared Trident of Neptune: A magical Trident that grants the bearer the power over any body of water, mystic force beams, and other undisclosed abilities. Is extremely powerful and contains great magic. Was given to Namor by Neptune after he chose Lady Dorma’s life over claiming the trident. Tales to Astonish #75 (the tridents look has changed over the years)
Tumblr media
The Sacred Armor of Ancient Atlantis: Magical armor given to Namor by Neptune after he was brought back to life. Namor the Sub-Mariner (1990) #37
Tumblr media
The Shroud of Cleito: The Shroud contains Gems that are interwoven into the cloth. The destiny’s of all creatures are held in the gems and the woven into the fabric of the Shroud are the souls of all past and future King’s of Atlantis. Man Thing (1997) #7-8
Tumblr media
The Amulet of Kings: A magical amulet that holds the souls of the past kings of Atlantis. It was used to transport Namor to Hell.
Tumblr media
The Serpent Crown: Created by the Serpent men as a magical tool that would allow Set to be able to enter their world. Influences the wearer to the control of wielder. Found by Naga and his followers.
Tumblr media
A few common elements used in spells: whale teeth, dust of a fallen star, kings/queens/royal blood, potions, the coral scrolls: scrolls that contain history and spells, chants, incantations.
Magic Users:
Amara the First: ancient royal logomancer, writer of incantations/spells/chants.
Tareva of Atlantis: sorceress, traveled to the temple of the three to compete in Triumph and Torment.
Tumblr media
Logomancer: unnamed logomancer before Abira
Tumblr media
Abira: Royal Logomancer
