ftr i only tag like (reclaimed) slurs on here bc i feel like this is a ~big blog and has (what to me feels like) a lot of followers. i dont tag them on my personal blog bc i do what i want there.
starting to kinda question this decision like mini policy i made for myself and if it really makes sense. for me it feels bad and i dont particularly like tagging all uses of them but idk idk what do you guys think? how do yall feel? really would like more input on this. i see both (? i think there's only 2 sides but idk) sides but neither option feels great.

"it's not queer fiction unless the queerness is explicitly declared in the text according to currently accepted terminology and in a way that meets the approval of the entire audience" I mean follow your heart I guess but I trust myself as a queer person to recognise queer themes

The thing about the r slur is that people who are using it again are indeed using it as a slur. This isn't a word that is being reclaimed. This is a word that is once again being used 100% as a slur. You're being a bigot if you're using it against others. Straight up. There isn't another argument to be made. Knock it tf off.

sometimes i forgor that dyke is like. a slur or whatever. like someone will hesitate & awkwardly try and decide if they can compliment my dyke pin, or smthn. dyke is just a friend to me. "whats ur gender" "dyke" "no whats in your pants" "i wish a dyke"

oh I suppose I should update yall re the tagging slurs topic! so based on the responses to this post it seems like folks are cool with it going untagged unless it's not present in the body of the post (like if it's in an image that isn't captioned/described) which works for me. I think that's an easy rule I can make for myself and do consistently. I don't think I'll really be able to really do like depending on more subjective things like whether it's reclaimed or only certain words and not others so yeah that's what I've decided to do going forward!
to conclude: Use tumblr's filtering system for tags and post content, it works quite well. I'll tag posts with "x slur" if it is present in images that tumblr's filter won't catch for you

basically my standards for gay/trans media these days are that it has to be something i'd still enjoy even if none of the characters were gay or trans. bc otherwise the whole thing is a waste of my fucking time. in 2012 i was so starved for gay representation that i'd consume anything that so much as mentioned queerness just to feel less alone but that's not the world we live in anymore and i don't want to go back to that world and i would be miserable continuing to pretend that gayness is the pinnacle of good writing in 2023 it feels so.... gross. i like being spoiled with a rapturous amount of gay content to choose from and plenty of the gay content i DON'T like is beloved by other queer people and i don't have to love every gay narrative or pretend to. so i'm no longer touching any shit that doesn't do the kind of cool storytelling that compels me. i did my years in the trenches.
