Don't Trust Google Docs Suggestions

Those squiggly blue lines can be helpful, loves, but sometimes? Sometimes those suggestions are utter nonsense and should be ignored. G Docs has no respect for my style, often trying to tell me to swap out words and sentences that use a more old-fashioned or formal grammar that suits a character voice better, and other times I realised it was making suggestions like this! Sorry, darling, Haarlep is doing what now? Pulling out a fucking blender? No, no, they are whispering something utterly debauched to Tav, not making her a bloody salsa. So, please loves, especially those of you who are writing with English as a secondary language, do not always trust the system. It can and will betray you. Apparently with powered kitchen appliances. Honestly I was laughing at this for several minutes when I realised what it was trying to suggest! Oh, and the Fiendish Festive Feast Fic is still being written, I'm over 4k words but it isn't ready yet. I will have it out as soon as it's done, and 2 of my Winter Exchange Event pieces will be going live on AO3 in the next few days when the collections release, so there will be new works of mine soon enough~ Happy writing, darlings! I finished The Quin Dilemma today, and really enjoyed it for the most part! It reminded me how much I adore Six's companions, especially because Peri, Flip and Constance haven't have any new stories in a while. As for the individual stories:

I enjoyed episodes 1 and 6 quite a bit. It was lovely hearing Carrie Quinlan in Big Finish, and her character was sweet. Jac Raynor's dialogue is as breezy and fun as ever, but I did want a lot more time with the quartet Sixth Doctors and all four (five?) companions at the end

Escape from Holy Island was a bit too action-packed for my liking, but it was great hearing a fiery Peri take command of the monastery. The central two-parter was pretty fun, with the highlight again being the companions–I've really missed Flip and Constance so it was a joy hearing them again. That reunion hug was so heartwarming!

My favourite of the set, though, was absolutely The Thousand Year Thaw. As the whole boxset is the forty-year anniversary of the Twin Dilemma as well as Colin's Doctor, it was a great idea for Big Finish to take the opportunity to explore the emotional impact of that story, and on Peri specifically. She's had such a good run on audio it's easy to forget how hard she took it on TV, but she's a serious contender for Most Trauma received as a companion that was caused by the Doctor specifically. Her explanation as to why she stuck by him through the worst of times–"because my friend was sick"–was only half-convincing, but Nicola Bryant pulled it off with a stunning but of performance. Loved that episode. If anything, I wish the personal conflict of the episode was more closely tied to the conflict of the plot, which felt bolted on if anything, but it was still a lovely bit of drama.

Overall: very fun story! Definitely an 8/10 overall I think. Nothing blew me away but it was all very cosy and a warm celebration of 6. Looking forward to his next boxset too–apparently Paul Magrs (my favourite DW author) is set to write for it!

Which character from the keeper crew do you think is the smartest?

Well that depends on how we're defining smartness! There are several different ways I'd rank the different characters, and each one has a different character coming out on top.

In terms of book smart? Knows facts and things in general, how stuff works, performs well on tests? In the human world it would be Sophie, but in the elven world it's Fitz. He scored at the top of his level in Foxfire, though Keefe was a very close second so he's also in the book smart category. (technically Linh and Tam scored amazing on their Foxfire entrance scores as well, but their circumstances kinda messed with that so I don't fully count it)

In terms of smart like wise? Linh. She has this kind of self-awareness and self-governing, understanding herself and her mind in a way that we don't see with any other character. She understands the value in gentleness and the power in restraint, and has used her mistakes to learn in a more concrete way than any other character

In terms of ingenuity? Dex. He is the creative solutions person, he looks at a problem and thinks in ways no one else will, bringing a type of intelligence otherwise absent in the group. The way he problem solves is so different from everyone else's and helps move them all forward

In terms of progressive thinking? Someone with a good sense of right and wrong who can make quick, sure decisions to achieve/advance goals? I think that's Sophie's kind of smartness. I don't know what to call it but it's got a certain analytical yet intuitive quality where she looks at things differently than others, but not with the eccentricity Dex has. She's knows things and knows when to rely on others and knows how to get things done and stand her ground, if that makes sense.

I'm sure there are other definitions/interpretations of smartness and intelligence that I'm missing, but those were the ones I thought of first. They're all smart in their own ways so it's difficult to compare and pick the smartest person when they have unique strengths!

You're also welcome to disagree as this is subjective, but these are just my thoughts on how I rank them :)

Gave myself a mini heart attack

I opened my story I’ve been on a roll with, which I had just finished removing the 2010ish fanfic roots literally two hours before, and every all 8 new pages and every edit was gone.

A month or two of work just gone.

I started clt-z like crazy and that doesn’t work. This story is trapped on a 14 year old laptop that I’m locked out of the admin on so can’t get to the internet so it hasn’t been backed up on a third location in…ever

So I opened the folder with all the spy stories in it and pull up the file that has the same name as the one that’s already open

And when I tell you THAT WORKED

There where just two files with the same name *somehow*

So I took pictures of the fic so I’d have something to rewrite from if I ever did lose it and emailed them to myself

Y'know, sometimes I really wish I could enjoy being feminine the way that femme trans women do.
