Hello! For the WIP ask: Salt Liquor (Girl Genius) please?
Salt Liquor! Salt Liquor was a collaboration between myself and the late great (on tumblr; they're still alive and fandom-active) ConstanceComment. Salt Liquor is quite genuinely possibly the best fic I will never write. It had THEMES. It had POLYAMORY. It had POLICE BRUTALITY vs UNIONS vs PROFESSIONAL POLITICAL PLAYERS/TOURIST-SCAMMERS, and all of the above were affiliated with SPEAKEASIES and MOBS.
Salt Liquor is/was a Girl Genius au set in Prohibition Era Atlantic City, New Jersey. OT3 endgame, Gil-centric, ensemble cast, outline of...19 chapters + epilogue? But realistically would've ended up more.
Agatha is the new-in-town farmgirl who is (fully known to her) the lost heiress to the local Romanian Mob (not really historical), here to get the old gang back together and establish herself as the new local power, starting with refurbishing and reopening The Castle, the old Heterodyne club and bar-now-speakeasy.
Tarvek is the slightly-less-new-in-town scion of the Irish Catholic family so deeply enmeshed in Tammany Hall (very much historical) that they may as well be its royalty, here to (per Martellus's plans) fail or (per his plans) succeed beyond anybody's expectations in setting himself up as the new local power, starting with newly opened hotel-casino (speakeasy down below) Stormbreak Hotel.
Gil is the son of the Chief of Police - though his mother is some sort of crime boss in Mexico and these days his twin sister smuggles liquor (and does some light piracy) with their former babysitter. (Klaus would hire Bang to escort them on the train to visit Zanta, when he was too busy to make the trip himself. Gil and Zeetha were accomplices in a lot of crime, growing up.)
At the start, Gil knows Tarvek is a crook and Tarvek knows Gil used to do crime, but neither of them know who Agatha is yet...though Tarvek figures it out much faster. The jägers are present, of course. The Muses are present as Tarvek's core staff of extremely competent, socially underprivileged women whom Tarvek has been hiring as he finds them since the age of like 12. There is an organ trafficking case which turns into a human trafficking case, the mastermind of which is (spoilers) Lucrezia. The climax involves chasing her and kidnapped!Klaus on boats in a rare New Jersey hurricane.
The writing style would've been inspired by hardboiled detective novels - with two amores fatales, obviously.
We have a reasonably detailed outline, about 1.5 chapters of written fic, a (discord? tumblr? facebook?) chat saved into a 119-page document, and 23 pages of "Extra Bits because I Give Up" that are mostly stray scenes of OT3 set after the end of hte fic, including, god bless our nerdy asses, the reaction to the stock market crash of 1929.
It's never gonna get written because I'm pretty sure neither of us wants to do the historical research required to make it really good, and neither of us can tolerate it not being really good.

heya steph!
have you got any very angsty Mycroft fics? (suicide, whump, sh, pretty much anything is good)
thanks your an angel!
Hey Nonny *HUGS*
Ahh, not any that focus SPECIFICALLY on Mycroft. I think these angstiest one I have is this one:
The Most Awful Thing by whitchry9 (K+, 1,072 w., Ch 1 || Hurt/Comfort, Holmes Brothers, Seizures) – When Mycroft witnesses Sherlock having a seizure, he is at a complete loss as to what he should do. Thankfully, John is there.
Yorkshire Gold by Tammany Tiger(K, 1,467 w., 1 Ch. || Friendship, Holmes Brothers, Hurt/Comfort, Mild Angst, Open Ending, Grief, Implied Bondlock) – Mycroft may not mourn Sherlock's death-but even if he knows his brother lives, he's not without his own grief. It ain't easy being The British Government. But at least he's got good help. Set between the Fall and the Return.
The Deafening Silence by occasionally-maybe-never(T, 2,238 w., 1 Ch. || Angst, Major Character Death, Post-TRF) – 'Sherlock hopes fiercely that John can hear him, as sometimes coma patients can. He knows that John will understand, that his admission of love isn't a grand, sweeping romantic statement, but simply an expression of truth.' When Mycroft retrieves Sherlock to bring him home, it's not to John having dinner, but to John on his death bed.
The Warehouse Chat by AllesandraQuartermaine(K, 3,611 w., 1 Ch. || Meddling Mycroft, Canon-Compliant, Drama / Family) – When Mycroft Holmes learns about the presence of John Watson in his brother's life, he does what any brother who worries would do. He learns what he can and then abducts Doctor John Watson for a chat in a warehouse. Set in A Study In Pink.
Our Sudden and Strange Return by Arwen Jade Kenobi(T, 10,314 w., 1 Ch. || Post-TRF, Friendship) – One year, eight months, and an odd number of days after the alleged fatal fall Mycroft gets a message from Sherlock saying that he's back.
Pressure Points by Starlight05(T, 17,677 w., 11 Ch. || Suspense & Friendship, Intense Themes, Torture) - SEQUEL TO ‘RIDDLES IN THE DARK’ – Sebastian Moran is locked away in prison, but he plots to escape and seek revenge on Mycroft Holmes. Meanwhile, Sherlock and John are dealing with a change in their relationship, trying not to fall apart. And as ties are tested and allegiances altered, events unfold in the streets of London that threaten both the Holmes brothers and everyone they care for.
----
EDIT: LOL I have more than I thought LOL
Feel free to add your own if you have them, my Lovelies!

So I slept on these feels and maybe now I can express it properly.
So I was rereading a lovely fic last night by Tammany (it's her series called The Sussex Downs, it's a cross between Good Omens and Sherlock, it's absolutely beautiful, high recommend) and I came across a passage that absolutely got my back up and hissy. Just to be clear, Tammany is a lovely person, just she was writing a point of view from a character that got my back up.
(Literally. SWMBO used to call me a Puff Adder, because I was born in the Year of the Snake and when I get mad, I tend to rise up like a cobra and ...get bigger. There's no other way to describe it, you have to actually see it.)
And I felt myself rising up at this and getting downright angry, even though Tammany adds an author's note at that very point explaining why she wrote it and everything, but I'm getting fucking pissy, and suddenly the thought hit me;
"How much of myself did I shove down for my marriage? Because two years ago, I'd have gotten angry, but not like this."
And that deflated me PDQ.
And I thought about it.
I thought about all the protests I wanted to go to, but couldn't, because "you could get arrested, Marbles, and then I'd lose my job."
I thought about all the good work I wanted to do, the volunteer work, but "How would that look if someone from my work saw you?"
I thought about all the anger I'd suppressed about various and sundry idiocy and bigotry over the last six years or so, about how when I said Drumpf should shut up and let the scientists talk he told me I didn't know what I was talking about, about when I said the election wasn't stolen, he said there was evidence being suppressed, about when I called J6 an insurrection he got in my face and told me it wasn't.
I thought about my child asking what would happen if the state tried to take them away from me because they were gay, and trying to explain their fears to him, and him passing it off as impossible despite the fact that even back then, I could see the writing on the wall.
How much of myself did I lose over the last twenty-plus years? How much of who I am did I shove down in the name of security, in the name of keeping the peace, in the name of giving because marriage is give and take?
It was enlightening, to say the least.

Fics I Read & Loved: May 2019
The April list is here.
I love coming up with these lists, but June and July were filled with lots of my own writing! So this one is very late, lol. Working on June’s list now.
You get the 2019 list (Johnlock and Mystrade), and the 2018 list (so much Johnlock), plus a few Hannigram fics at the end. Don’t be surprised if you see a few Good Omens fics in next month’s list!
Sherlock Fic Recs for May 2019
Just a Cuppa by green_violin_bow. Mystrade. Explicit. 3,880 words. Exhausted after a case that required participation from both of them, Greg and Mycroft end up sharing a bed...I mean, seriously, what could happen?
The Old Familiar Sting by songlin. Johnlock. Teen. 2,961 words. Sherlock doesn’t want John to realize he’s autistic.
That Teenage Feeling by akitsuko. Johnlock. Explicit. 12,397 words. John decides to try and set Sherlock up with a date. But when he sees a man flirt with Sherlock, he’s seized with jealousy. The jealousy is delicious.
In For a Pint by MissMilquetoast. Johnlock. Teen. 9,840 words. Sherlock, Greg, and Molly try to get John out in the dating game after Mary’s death. John doesn’t exactly appreciate it, and surprises them all.
Star Child by bookjunkiecat. Mystrade. Teen. 1,261 words. Mycroft is an unlikely candidate for a tattoo. But it means a lot to him. Turns out someone else he knows can appreciate it, too.
Winter in London by Waid. Johnlock. Not Rated. 45,112 words. Victorian AU and rape recovery fic. Holmes is knocked out and Watson deals with the last stages of a case. He tries to hide what happened from his friend.
Welcome Home, John by slashscribe. Johnlock. Gen. 5,504 words. John returns to 221B a broken man. Sherlock is very considerate - a little too considerate. John begins thinking he might not be the only broken man.
Hurts and Comforts by Lavender_and_Vanilla. Mystrade. Not Rated. 2,112 words. Adorable ficlets - five in all! The last chapter is distinctly a sickfic, the others are all hurt/comfort, just a little something to touch your heart and make you smile.
Recovery by Tammany. Mystrade. Gen. 3,350 words. Mycroft suffers an assassination attempt that leaves him unsteady and in pain. Lestrade is a natural caretaker. Lovely short story.
Coffee, Lies, and Cheesecake by siriusblue. Mystrade. Teen. 1,516 words. Adorable coffee shop AU wherein Mycroft finds a nice, quiet coffee shop with a handsome barista. But the silver haired barista is not all he seems!
Barter System by brbsoulnomming. Johnlock. Explicit. 6,982 words. This one is sooo sweet. A touch of angst, too, but it’s perfect. Sherlock and John start a bartering system with their clothes.
A Bit of Indulgence by beltainefaerie. Johnlock. Not Rated. 3,364 words. One of my favorite tropes! John and Sherlock run into an old army buddy of John’s while on a case at Pride.
Tempting by bookjunkiecat. Mystrade. Mature. 1,602 words. Smut and doughnuts, this is good!
Seize the Day by siriusblue. Mystrade. 1,664 words. Mycroft is a human rights lawyer having a bad day at work. Greg is a cute barista.
A Model Patient by EventHorizon. Mystrade. Teen. 1,800 words. A most humorous story of a government official’s illness and his model patient behavior.
The Golden Egg by bookjunkiecat. Johnlock. Mature. 4,259 words. Having John and Watson is all he could ever ask for. Things come to a head after an Easter egg hunt at Aunt Harry’s.
Shining Tigers by Tammany. Mystrade. Explicit. 2,428 words. Mycroft and Greg are mature men who get on with each other. It seems only natural for a comfortable courtship to unfold.
I Do by bookjunkiecat. Mystrade. Teen. 1,102 words. Greg starts having doubts the night before the wedding. Mycroft learns why.
A Little Bit of Irritation by thecount. Mystrade. Not Rated. 11,789 words. Sherlock dives off of a building. Greg is in trouble with the Met. Mycroft sets it right, and then, they find themselves getting closer, though it’s not easy.
Taking Care by Mice. Mystrade. Gen. 1,497 words. Greg comforts Mycroft directly after he events at Sherrinford.
The Hand of Friendship by Topicabo. Mystrade. Teen. 3,925 words. Sweet, sweet story (with just a teensy bit of angst) of a close friendship that tips into something more.
Mystrade Goes Grocery Shopping by Lavender_and_Vanilla. Mystrade. Gen. 1,659 words. Hahaha, Greg makes Mycroft go shopping. Cute little fic wherein Mycroft realizes there might be something to this suggestion.
Pebble by bookjunkiecat. Johnlock. Gen. 1,088 words. Holy fucking Christ, if this isn’t the cutest thing I’ve read recently.
What’s Warranted? by Lavender_and_Vanilla. Mystrade. Explicit. 1,285 words. Soft and sweet. Greg can’t find his warrant card, and he knows Mycroft must have stolen it in a bid for morning sex.
The Comfort of Touch by sanguisuga. Mystrade. Teen. 2,132 words. Greg comforts a touch-starved Mycroft after a grievous loss. Sweet and soft.
Can You See Me? by stripyjumpers. Johnlock. Teen. 10,139 words, John is going blind, and has no idea what to tell his flat mate. Beautiful little story.
Sherlock fics I loved in May 2018 are under the cut. So are the Hannigrams.
Sherlock Fic Recs from May 2018
Nature and Nurture by earlgreytea68. Johnlock. Mature. 203,273 words. I reread this recently, and it’s so fucking amusing. Mycroft leaves John and Sherlock with a clone baby. The new dynamic at 221B leads John to reconsidering where he stands with Sherlock. Post-Reichenbach.
Full Disclosure by Itsallfine. Johnlock. Explicit. 7,032 words. John gets invited to a night out with army buddies and brings Sherlock along to try and deflect ridicule for showing up alone. Some things get said.
Bridging the Ravine by SilentAuror. Johnlock. Explicit. 58,887 words. I think the Fake Relationship trope is my fave. John and Sherlock have to investigate a therapy centre for same-sex couples. Post-season four, so you know there’s a lot of drama!
Nothing to Make a Song About by emmagrant01. Johnlock. Explicit. 36,833 words. Sherlock lives a life without John for ten years after John breaks off their friendship when Sherlock returns. John gets divorced from Mary and returns to London. This is worth every reread.
Dawn Before the Rest of the World series by PoppyAlexander. Johnlock. Explicit. 65,164 words. This is sweet and John Watson is stupidly romantic while Sherlock is ridiculously buttoned up. Downton Abbey-esque.
Hitting the Water at Sixty Miles an Hour by what_alchemy. Johnlock. Explicit. 30,568 words. Hello Fake Relationship Trope, I love you. John, Sherlock, and Mycroft go gallivanting in Scotland for Mummy’s birthday. Sherlock told Mummy that he and John are engaged to get Mummy off his back about love and relationships. John goes along with it.
The Handler by saturn_in_retrograde. Johnlock. Explicit. 11,300 words. This one is hot. Alternate meeting - Sherlock is convalescing in the family home. John Watson shows up to apply for a job training dogs.
Ghosting by johnwatso. Johnlock. Explicit. 22,590 words. John Watson has a tattoo that Sherlock knows he didn’t see before Reichenbach. He can’t help but obsess over it, forcing John’s hand and his own in exploring the nature of their relationship.
The Way to a Man’s Heart by SwissMiss. Johnlock. Teen. 21,273 words. John is living at Baker St after the death of Mary and the baby. Greg asks Sherlock to be his best man, which leads to tension between Sherlock and John. Then a connection to an old flame.
The Strait of Juan de Fuca by mightypog. Johnlock. Teen. 6,400 words. A gorgeous post-Reichenbach piece, where Sherlock takes John to Canada, and in the wilderness there, hopes to reconnect with his old friend and blogger.
Right Hand Man by SilentAuror. Johnlock. Johnlock. Explicit. 42,031 words. Mary and John get into a car accident that paralyzes John’s lower arm and hand. The baby is incoming, so Mary asks Sherlock to take care of John while she prepares for birth.

If Equal Affection Cannot Be by blueink3. Johnlock. Explicit. 31,156 words. This is a beautiful story of estrangement and reunion, where Rosie is a pivotal character and Sherlock and John have many old feelings to deal with.

A Diseased Fancy by J_Baillier. Johnlock. Mature. 85,088 words. Spooky, creepy, and awesome. Sherlock and John get complicated, and then Victor Trevor shows up. Shit gets weird. An awesome story. Did I say awesome already?

Never (Turn Your Back to the Sea) by DiscordantWords. Johnlock. Explicit. 39,968 words. This is a fantastic story. Sherlock wants John to stay but John just visits with Rosie. Eurus is kind of a bitch, but she eventually gives Sherlock the key.
A Wizarding Barista’s Field Guide to Seducing a Muggle by paradigmfinch. Johnlock. Teen. 29,344 words. I mean, this is just one of the cutest things I’ve ever read.

Time on my hands by mildredandbobbin. Johnlock. Mature. 7,179 words. I love this one. Sherlock decides to go cottaging. John eventually finds out.

Masters of Ink by IndyBaggins. Johnlock. Explicit. 67,482 words. What a great AU, and what angst! John and Sherlock are tattoo artists competing on a reality show.
Recovery by mainegirlwrites. Johnlock. Mature. 26,935 words. Sherlock is attacked while on a case and is disfigured. John takes care of him.
A Fold in the Universe by darkest_bird. Johnlock. Explicit. 152,875 words. This is an interesting concept and a fun story. Alpha Sherlock and Omega John are in a relationship in one world. Sherlock and John are not. Somehow, John and Omega John swap worlds.
Hannigram

Vote for your favourite St Valentine fic
Tumblr media
There is so much love for - and between - our Minor Gov’t Official and his Detective Inspector, you lovelies will probably have a difficult time choosing. Give it your best and vote on Discord.
A matter of perspective by @7-percent, NR, 1k Mrs Hudson ships Mystrade. She’s made a plan to bring them together on Valentine’s Day and roped in Sherlock and John to help. It seems like the perfect romantic moment, but is there something more to it? A short fluffy Mystrade with a tiny hint of Johnlock.
I Love You In A Song by @sherlock-nanowrimo, T, 30k It’s Greg’s first year at uni, and he’s eager to make friends. Meanwhile his little sister misses him, so he records youtube videos of him singing and playing guitar for her. Mycroft is in his second year, still having trouble connecting with people. He discovers Greg’s videos, and is drawn to him despite his vow to put his work first. Then one day they meet, and their subsequent friendship sparks months of pining and misunderstandings, while also helping them understand themselves better.
Bonfire Heart by @jessieblackwood, M, 45k Greg Lestrade is the Senior consultant cardiothoracic surgeon in charge of heart transplant patient, Sherlock Holmes’, care. Mycroft is Sherlock’s mysterious older brother and a prominent member of the governing board for the private hospital Greg works in. Detective Inspector John Watson is Sherlock Holmes’ partner but Mycroft seems determined to keep John and his brother apart. Greg must juggle his own problems with those of his patient in order to make sure Sherlock’s anxieties are settled but what is it about Mycroft that rings alarm bells in Greg’s head? Can he thaw the Iceman’s heart and help his brother to recover, and even save Mycroft from himself?
Bah, Humbug...A Mystrade Valentine by @Tammany, G, 2k
It's mushy. It's fluffy. It's probably going to do bad things to your insulin resistance. But it could be worse. After all, Mycroft and Lestrade don't do Valentine's Day.Really. XD
Mycroft's Special Day by @merindab  R, 1k It's not always easy having a birthday on Valentine's Day
Diamond In The Rough by @bigblueboxat221b, T, 4k Of the pile of secret Valentines on his desk, two stand out to Greg for very different reasons. One is more straightforward than the other, but neither is exactly what it seems.
Valentine Ambush by @justusmice, M, 3k There's a dinner and some romance. Neither of them had quite expected it. Anthea, as always, is to blame.
Wednesday by @anarfea, E, 7,5k Greg and Mycroft have been seeing each other (neither of them calls it dating) for several months when Greg asks Mycroft on a date on Wednesday. Not ‘Valentine’s Day,’ even though it is, because Greg doesn’t want to spook Mycroft by appearing overly sentimental or romantic. Mycroft spooks anyway.
On the Market by @nattylineinumbrellas, T, 8k Or five times Greg failed at dating and one time he really, really didn't. With another lonely Valentine's Day looming, Greg Lestrade decides it’s time to get back in the dating game. He’s out of practice, though, and even with Sally acting as wingman things are not going smoothly. But is it just bad luck, or does someone perhaps have a vested interest in keeping the detective single...
Together Forever by @sanguisugaao3, E, 12k Greg takes Mycroft to the pub, and the evening takes a not quite unexpected turn...
The Mystrade Valentine Calendar
Draw me like one of your French Girls by @theuniverseisrarelysolazyemmy, T, 7.5k After Sherrinford, Mycroft can't cope. At all. When he finally emerges from his shell again, he encounters Greg in the last place he would expect...
I Don't Normally Bother by Topicabo, E, 5k Mycroft doesn't really do Valentine's Day. But he'll make the exception for Greg.
The Dating Habits of a Minor Government Official by MagicaDraconia16 , G, 2.5k A government official, even a minor one, always knows exactly what he wants. And what he wants . . . does not include them trying to date somebody else.
Without Reservations by  @crushedrose  Black_Dawn, G, 10k Instead of a happy Valentine's day, Greg and Mycroft broke up, now a year later they need to face their mistakes...face each other, find Sherlock and deal with their feelings.
Where or When by shadowed_sunsets, T, 25k His entire life Greg Lestrade has had the ability to help people find their perfect matches, whether they will be platonic or romantic partners. It's a gift that has been passed down in his family for generations. The one thing his gift isn't useful for is helping Greg find his own perfect match. He thought he was happy, and that his life was going as well as he could hope for. That he should be satisfied with what he had. Then he met the Holmes brothers, and well... everything changed.
One Little Word by lmirandas , G, 7k Love. Amor. Amore. Lieb. Amour. 恋. One little word, with so much meaning in many languages. In a world in which you can only utter or use the word to refer to your soulmate, Mycroft Holmes hopes one day he will hear that word from someone else. A Mystrade Soulmate AU.
The Scrapbook by brooklyn09, NR, 1k Now in their 80's, Greg and Mycroft look back on Valentine's Days from their past. Years later, after their natural deaths, their niece Rosamund finds a scrapbook, a testament of their love for one another.
Greg Gets His Man by Anglofile , E, 3k It's Valentines Day. Can Greg Lestrade become his best friend's valentine?
"Happy Valenversary, Gregory" by Saratonin, E, 3k  When you're married to the British Government holidays and anniversaries may get rescheduled. Crabbiness will probably ensue.
Valentine's Delay by @bryntwedge, 8.5k Greg is upset he's alone for Valentine's day, and decides to get drunk to drown out the sorrow. Lucky for him, Mycroft is indulging in his secret attraction by watching Greg through the CCTV and comes out to help. Drunk confessions and a confusing morning after ensue.
The Uncommon Case of the Missing Page by BlueFruit, T, 2k Greg is solving a big case without any help from Sherlock, but he needs time. Mycroft is reading the news and he doesn’t like them. What can bother the most powerful man in England?
Don’t say something stupid (like: "I love you") by @ylc1, T, 2k Mycroft is not upset. There’s nothing to be upset about, really. So what if Inspector Lestrade has an actual date on Valentine’s Day? It’s not like he has any real claim on the man. And yet-
7 Days to Valentine's Day by @holysnowflake, NR, 10k On 7th February the 17-years-old Mycroft Holmes opens his locker and finds a mysterious note.
Written In The Stars by @siriusblue T, 1k Greg Lestrade always thought he was the romantic one but after twenty-five years of marriage, Mycroft can still surprise him.
#28 Doing something ridiculous by 221_french_bee , G, 3k  Greg has been helping the gardener at the Holmes house, and Mycroft hadn’t been able to tamper his attraction for the teen as he ogled from his windows. On Valentine’s Day, when Gregory arrives on this motorcycle and asks to speak to Mycroft, he is hopeful their romantic relationship is finally taking its first steps. But will Sherlock’s shenanigans keep them away from each other? John is amazed, Sherlock is a little brat, and both Greg and Mycroft are pining idiots!
It's Not That Important by @theartstudentyouhate, M, 2.5k   They've finally gotten together... on the evening of the 13th but can they spend Valentine's day together and is it really that important?
A Devil of A DI by @wingedwhale, E, 3.5k Mycroft discovers what Greg Lestrade truly is.
A Bundle of Love by RayBen, E, 8.6k Greg realises there is something missing in Mycroft's life and he wants more than anything to see him receive it.
Next Year by @lavenderandvanilla T, 2k “I’m telling you, we’re jinxed.” “Gregory, don’t be ridiculous.” “Well, what would you call it? We’ve not had a good Valentine’s Day yet.” “It’s merely coincidental that we’ve not had a Valentine’s Day that would be considered perfect.” “I’m sorry, what is it you say about ‘coincidence’?” “You have me there. Fine, the fates are against us. We should simply give up.” “No way. We’re going to show Cupid and have a perfect Valentine’s Day.”
Never Call It 'VD' by HumsHappily, G, 3k Venereal disease (Noun): a contagious disease (such as gonorrhea or syphilis) that is typically acquired in sexual intercourse — compare std. Abbreviated as ‘VD’ Relationship (Noun):the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected. Valentine’s Day (Noun): The damn thing that started all this, dammit. Also see: Gregory Lestrade struggles to figure out a gift for the man who has it all.
A Valentine's Comedy of Errors by @antheas-blackberry, NR, 1k It's Valentine's day, a day for lovers to indulge one another. Sometimes it doesn't always go to plan.
The Suit by @ohsocyanide ,  E, 5k Greg only ever wore the suit for one reason.
Secret by @sumeragisakura, E, 7k It’s Valentine’s Day and Greg’s got an extra case on his hands.
Not To My Knowledge by @bigblueboxat221b, G, 4k Greg discovers nobody has ever courted (wooed? chased? pursued? had designs on?) Mycroft. He sets out to do so - with Mycroft's permission, of course.

#8 Good Omens fic recs
(if you have to pick one, pick the 1st, but all these are quite gentle)
1. An Angel is Like You, and You are Like an Angel by Arokel
This is golden stuff! A bit of queer history + endearment + Az trying to make Crowley jealous + playing on homophobes’ nerves (I always felt like that was part of the reason Crowley kept calling him ‘angel’)).
2. Comfort Me by Tammany
It’s a wing fic, very gentle, wing grooming through the years.
3. Aglow by elektratios
Aziraphale is dealing with feeling not-quite-right in his own body. Crowley helps. (The way Az handles it is quite impressive.)

Mega Multi-Fandom Rec List Part 2
DISCLAIMER!!!
I will miss certain people; probably a lot of people. It’s inevitable.  3 reasons.  I haven’t read every fic in every fandom.  2, I haven’t managed to bookmark every fic out there.  3, I am not involved with every fandom.  The fandoms in my list are the ones I personally and currently am involved in which have enough fics to rec that they are worth the time linking below.
So bear with me.
4-ish - I tend to cling pretty tight to both hurt/comfort (whump) as well as canon.  I’m not hugely into romance save for maybe 1 or two couples and, again, I lean hard on whatever is either canon or VERY strongly implied OTP.  I don’t rec porn (nothing against it I just avoid it when it comes to anything that might have an underage audience).
Finally, anything I rec that may contain triggering subject matter I will tag as well as I can so heed the warnings where appropriate!
Note: I have also included some of my work below.  For a complete collection of my stories you can find them at the following links:   dragonnan’s Psych fics dragonnan’s A03 fics

Scheherezade ‘verse, A Felicitous Natal Celebration, and With a Little Help From My Friends Series’ by sgam76:   Sherlock is home, he and John are returning to cases, and all’s right with the world–right? But a series of minor mishaps and injuries makes two things very clear to his friends and family: first, Sherlock’s time away wasn’t the grand adventure everyone has assumed it was; and second, that time has left Sherlock with a legacy that’s bleeding into his life today. Sherlock is Not Okay, and it’s not going away.
NOTE: These stories are not written in the order with which they occur.  They are all part of the same universe and dovetail amongst one another.  You can read them in whatever order you which - though I strongly advise beginning with Scheherezade as nothing else will quite make sense without that history.

M, AD, AF, AK!
Nice choices, I’m going to convert them into number, and then let’s go!
13/M. Has a ship ever broken your heart?
Constantly.  There’s a roughly 50% chance that, in a show where at least one person dies, one or both members of my ship will die.  It just...it just KEEPS HAPPENING, my god.  But a special shout out to Chiaki/Makoto from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for ripping my heart out and stomping on it even though they both live.  Like my HEART, how DARE they.
30/AD. Name a couple of fandoms in which you have no ships.
I generally only actively seek out fandom stuff when I have a ship because searching for gen stuff is pretty futile, but it happens occasionally.  Newsies is the only one I can think of off the top of my head; I just want to read about Spot Conlon without shipping him with anyone (canon character or OC, it doesn’t matter), but that, like, never happens.  It did happen once though, in the excellent fic In New York about how he joined Tammany Hall and whatnot.
32/AF. Share five must-read fics.
Ok, are we talking across all fandoms or across Riverdale fandom?  Fuck it, I’ll do both, with the Riverdale choice that would normally be in the multi-fandom part moved to the Riverdale section.
Multi-Fandom:
1. Ambivalence by DreamScene (Code Geass) - An excellent look at a Shirley Lives AU.  It’s dark, it’s interesting, it’s a good character piece, the Lelouch/Shirley interactions are perfect in every way, and its got some nice smut at the end.  It’s a little screwy with the timeline, but it’s so good in every other respect that I do not care.
2. Ascendant by Samurai 101 (Naruto) - A very, very interesting Itachi time travel fic with a great and very unique take on time travel in general.  It really dives into clan politics and the difference in Itachi as a child and Itachi as an adult.  And the looming threat of Madara is so, so great.  Every side character is so fleshed out and real, and I love it.  Let it be known that I normally don’t like Itachi, but I really like him in this.  He’s not some perfect, all-wise ninja god; he’s a fuck up of a teenager and a kid trying his best, and he’s actually relatable.
3. Wanted It To Be a Game by SkylaDoragano (Persona 4) - An excellent role reversal fic with Adachi and Yu (well, more P4 Protagonist than Yu as we know him).  It really follows the domino effect of switching their roles out in terms of who lives and who dies and who joins the party in what roles.  It’s so interesting to see the domino effects of it all.  It really gets into the psychology of different characters, and everyone’s dynamics are fantastic, with a special shout out to Adachi and Saki’s friendship.  Seriously, if you like Adachi, this is a must-read.
4. 365 Days of Winter by zauberer_sirin (Durarara!!) - This is the perfect Izaya/Namie fic.  Like, their dynamic is so, so on point, and watching them fall in love when they really would rather not is such a delight.  I love the monthly format, and I love Izaya’s subtle jealousy, and I love how they never even explicitly confess their feelings.  It’s all so them, and I love it.
5. Executive Reform by karanguni (Final Fantasy VII) - It’s a Final Fantasy VII/Pacific Rim mash up that works surprisingly well.  It’s such a great gen fic, and the focus on the Shinra executives delights me.  Like, Scarlet and Hojo interacting while neither are being crazy?  Genius!  And it does such a great job of depicting the complicated relationship between Hojo and Sephiroth even though Sephiroth isn’t even an active character.  Everyone is so human in this, and I absolutely love it.  Tragically, it’s abandoned.
BONUS: Seven Suitors for Shirayuki by Sabrael (Snow White with the Red Hair) - Look, this doesn’t quite make the all-time top five, but I want to plug it here anyway because oh man, guys, this is top-notch slow burn/pining.  Like, by the end you are DYING, the burn is so good.  It fleshes out minor canon characters very well, and there are some great OCS, but they’re not OCs for the sake of OCs but ones that are truly necessary.  And the characterization is on point, and the obiyuki is SO GOOD.  Seriously, if you followed my advice about the show and fell into obiyuki hell with me, go read this.
Riverdale (Do you know how hard this was?  Narrowing this down?  There are so, so many things I want to add but can’t grrr)
1. cut while shaving by areyouabadwolf2 - I’ve made no secret of the fact that this is my all-time favorite Riverdale fic.  And in fact, it would normally knock Executive Reform out of its #5 spot.  It’s such a great post-season 2 darkfic, just an excellent look at where everyone could go from there.  It’s heavy on the Serpents, just the way I like it, and all the relationships are so cool.  Like, Jughead & Cheryl friendship?  Sign me the fuck up!  It’s also SO good at suspense and keeping secrets from its readers, and no one ever talks in a way that makes you go “ah yes, thank you for telling me that even though everyone in the room already knows about it.”  And like, the characterization in this is flawless, absolutely flawless, and the Betty/Jughead dynamic is amazing with them as a criminal duo.  I just. I love it.  Tragically, it seems to be abandoned.
2. The town called Riverdale by satelliteinasupernova - Yeah, you wrote this, so technically it’s redundant for you, but it belongs here, so tough.  This is the Riverdale/Princess Tutu mashup that I didn’t know I wanted, and it has an extra dose of eldritch horror.  The meta-y goodness is so delicious, and the suspense is fantastic, I was always on the edge of my seat.  It’s so great watching Veronica try to figure out this mystery while people around her are either cagey or don’t realize there’s a mystery to solve.  There’s such great uncertainty running throughout it,and I highly recommend it.
3. Black Cherry Chutney by lilibug - I love dark!bughead, I love it so goddamn much, and this is a great depiction of it.  And like, not just dark!Betty or dark!Jughead but both of them, and it’s such a delight.  Like, I absolutely love this Jughead from the word go, and Betty is so great because she is, like in canon, so much more than what she first seems.  The bughead dynamic is great, and the smut is fantastic.
4. Fullmetal Riverdale by lnles - This is such a good mashup of Riverdale and Fullmetal Alchemist that I cannot articulate it.  Like, it’s not just 1-1 insert Character A into Role A; it really works with the setting and characters of Riverdale to create something new but familiar.  It’s working with great pieces, and it does them both justice, which is saying a lot because Fullmetal Alchemist is very, very good.  I love the characterization and the hints of what happened in the past and the prose and just everything.  It’s not done, but it’s got a regular update schedule, so I’m hoping it gets finished. Go give this some love!
5. Shake, Rattle, and Roll series by TakeAWalkOnTheWildside - Ok, so I’m cheating here by putting in a series, but let me cheat, ok?  I’m still amazed that there are so few 1950s AUs for bughead, but I’m really glad we got this series.  It’s sexy, it’s fun, it’s period-appropriate, and it’s dramatic too.  Like it’s a whole saga of Betty and Jughead getting together and then being together, and it’s so fun.  Also, he eats her out on her dining room table in part one, so that’s great.
37/AK. Do you have a favorite trope and/or AU for your OTP?
For my OTP of OTPs, shirlulu, does Everyone Lives count?  Because that series does not end well for them.  But, ok, other than that, I want to see some mutual pining for them because the idea of Lelouch pining is so goddamn amusing, especially when mixed with perpetually pining Shirley being completely goddamn oblivious.  As for bughead, one thing I don’t see enough of (and crave more of) is their friends and family trying to play matchmaker for them but failing spectacularly.  Also, more 1950s AUs please.

Mycroft Holmes Fic Rec !! [part 2]
Tumblr media
Because sometimes, we all just need a little more Mycroft!
⬡ My Conflict Kills, by Cutebutpsycho [rated G]
(Mycroft/Sally Donovan) Why he picked her, Sally would never understand, but it was nice. She knew he wanted someone honorable on his side, and he had slowly seduced her over to him. Being a smart man, he was also careful not to discuss his work nor ask her about hers. They were in a bubble -- a carefully tended sanctuary that would eventually pay off for the both of them.
⬡ As the Stars of Heaven: Holmesian Reproductive Strategies, by Tammany [rated T]
(Mycroft/Greg Lestrade) Some concerns are unavoidable for responsible middle-aged men of a certain style and dignity. Mycroft's got to decide what to do about the estate and inheritance and all those good and worthy family sorts of things, given he and Sherlock have no offspring. Family planning the Holmesian way. This is not Holmescest/incest, barring a few mild and tasteless jokes.
⬡ The Making of Mycroft Holmes, by Herk [rated G]
(Gen) Little scenes from Mycroft's and Sherlock's childhood that explain at least partly why the British government is the man he is today.
Mummy Holmes isn't exactly a bad mother but sometimes parents can be thoughtlessly cruel when they don't see how much their child would need them at that moment.
⬡ Flu Humbug, by HastaLux [rated T]
(Mycroft/Greg Lestrade) Mycroft is sick with the flu and being overly dramatic about it. Greg comes up with a creative way to make him feel better.
⬡ Vermillion, by Cutebutpsycho [rated T]
(Mycroft/Sally Donovan) “Sally Donovan is in love?” he sang out the word love. “My brother is in love? The man who wears isolation like armor?”
⬡ The Importance of Uncle Rudy, by Lavender_and_Vanilla [rated G]
(Gen) Mycroft Holmes's Uncle Rudy helped make him the man he is today.
⬡ The Habits of a Lifetime, by out_there [rated M]
(Mycroft/Greg Lestrade) The idea of Sherlock and Eurus connecting over music, over anything, is terrifying. Mycroft has spent decades watching over Sherlock, talking about their fictional family dog and the myth of the east wind, trying to protect Sherlock from the things he doesn’t remember. He’s worried about Sherlock and stood guard over Eurus, and been worse than useless in the end. He was complicit. While he thought he was juggling both threats, maintaining enough control over the situation to keep everyone safe (mostly Sherlock, but the rest of the world as well), he had allowed the threat to escalate.
In which Mycroft is not an easy man to know and an even harder one to look after. Fortunately, Lestrade is diligent and determined, and knows how to pay attention to people. Where family comes with obligations, but it also cares, even when you don't want them around. Where life mostly goes as expected, but sometimes has unanticipated joys.

Though he survives from one day to the next, he doesn't truly live until someone from his dark past calls in a favor and turns his world upside-down with the introduction of Sherlock Holmes." Part 1 of Tales from the Northwest
The Lost Special: Family Matters (As Do Relationships) by ShirleyCarlton  (M, 144,688 w., 40 Ch. || S4 Fix It Fic / Meta Fic, Unreliable Narrator, John’s Mind Bungalow, Friends to Lovers, Happy Ending, Demisexual Sherlock, Holmes Family, John Whump, Gay Mycroft, Misunderstandings, Drug Addiction, Parenting, TFP is a Nightmare, Virgin Sherlock, Slow Burn, Minor Character Death, Switchlock, John’s Past, Sherlock’s Past, Eurus, Love Confessions) – Sherrinford is not really the name of some high security prison. That was just a figment of John’s frantic coma dream. And Eurus is not actually Sherlock’s sister. That’s just something random she said to John before shooting him. Sherlock and John were never actually estranged. That was just their act to cover up what really happened to Mary – or Rosamund Moran, as her real name has turned out to be. Sherlock does have a secret sibling, though, and his name is Sherrinford. After finally eliminating Moran – though in a rather dramatically different way than they had envisioned – and exposing the truth about Eurus, John encourages Sherlock to delve into his past and to find out whether the reasons to keep Sherrinford away from Sherlock were the right ones, and to discover what really happened in 1981. Along the way, Sherlock and John gradually, finally, stop keeping each other at a distance, and eventually become a proper family of their own.

I thought I was done with fic for the day. Then this descended on me, and I liked it far too much not to scamper around typing frantically so I would not lose the idea.
I'm going to let it take an actual number in the "Sussex Downs" series, but it's kind of the red-haired orphan child: I never thought of it as part of the arcs, and I don't know if I *really* want it to be canon or not. But this is THE AU it belongs to: I have no other place for it, and it longs to be where it is. So. It either happened, or it's an AU of an AU.
In which it is established that Gabriel is a total prat. But a notable clothes horse.

Vulpes’ Mystrade Recs
For @inevitably-johnlocked
I have a lot more than these but I don’t have the time today to add more. I hope to begin organizing them so that it is easier for readers to find what they’re looking for. This list is only a start! There are many more deserving fics and authors who will show up on this list in the future. Enjoy!
Happens in BBC Sherlock Canon as far as I can tell, but is not necessarily canon-compliant
Hope by sandwastesinthevoidofmychest. Mystrade. Teen. 5,222 words. My heart died reading this one, though it did restart. Mycroft suffers an acid attack, and retreats from public scrutiny.
Out of the Ashes by wendymarlowe. Mystrade. Explicit. 34,679 words. A tale of post-Reichenbach Mystrade. I loved it! It also includes some casefic.
The Sheltering Tree by Mottlemoth. Mystrade. Explicit. 89,113 words. I think this is the sweetest story Mottlemoth has written so far. I just adored it.
Darlin’ by Mottlemoth. Mystrade. Teen. 2,295 words. Mycroft is injured, and when he wakes in the hospital, he finds out that he’s married to Greg Lestrade.
Breaking Point by Hastalux. Mystrade. Mature. There’s a terrorist attack and Mycroft is caught in the middle of it. Greg refuses to leave him there.
Memoranda of Understanding series by mydwynter. Mystrade. Explicit. Good god, I need to reread this one. I just remember loving it, and just being blown away by how good it is.
As The Stars of Heaven: Holmesian Reproductive Strategies by Tammany. Mystrade. Teen. 24,342 words. Mycroft decides he wants a family. Greg is sort of jealous. Well, really jealous.
At Least There’s the Football series by sheffiesharpe. Mystrade. Explicit. It’s popular for a reason, y’all. Truly awesome domestic bliss and a wonderful romantic partnership between Mycroft and Greg.
The DI and the Spy series by chasingriver. Mystrade. Explicit. I’m pretty sure January of 2018 was me having just discovered Mystrade and devouring the big time popular fics. This one was super sweet and funny.
Fire and Ice series by kazvl. Mystrade. Explicit. This one is soooo good. There’s drama and angst with a wonderful storyline that diverges from post-Reichenbach canon in a believable way.
East End Boy by Mottlemoth. Mystrade. Explicit. So my headcanon is generally that Greg is someone who married a woman but was always gay (I know bisexuals exist; I am one, thank you), and when I read this I was like “YASSS! Thank you Moth!” because not only did it meet my headcanon, but the story is one of the best ones I’ve read, hands down.
To All the Lovers in the House Tonight by kedgeree. Mystrade. Mature. 15,950 words. Greg always gets his man, doesn’t he?
The I Know the Steps Series by stardust_made. Mystrade. Explicit. 37,394 words. This is great - Mycroft and Greg come to know each other - first from Mycroft’s POV, and then Greg’s.
like a moth to a flame by egmon73. Mystrade. Mature. 12,343 words. Greg realizes that he’s attracted to Mycroft. How can he be 52 and just now attracted to a man???
Sweetheart by janto321 (FaceofMer). Mystrade. Explicit. 1,312 words. Mycroft thought it would just be sex between them.
Taking His Time by sanguisuga. Mystrade. Explicit. 8,040 words. Mycroft didn’t quite expect these developments with Greg Lestrade.
Damage Control by TheDevilsFeet. Mystrade & Johnlock. Explicit. 46,679 words. Mycroft and Greg go on a drive to extract Sherlock from a precarious situation. It has some very awkward moments, but they get to know each other better.
Sinking the Land by emungere. Mystrade. Explicit. 34,302 words. It started with random cock sucking. And then it gets even better. So good!
Beyond These Games by recreational. Mystrade. Explicit. 37,736 words. Greg wants to know about the man behind the voice. It gets complicated.
Mister Big series by L_Morgan. Mystrade. Explicit. 41,007 words. This is one of the sweetest Mystrade fics out there. And not fluffy sweet…just sweet. Well done.
Virtually Perfect by Random_Nexus. Mystrade. Explicit. 19,680 words. A great Mystrade fic! I’ve reread this one when I needed a pick-me-up. Mycroft and Greg meet over the internet.
Cracks in the Ice by Mice. Mystrade. Explicit. 31,739 words. This is fantastic. It takes Greg and Mycroft from pre-canon to post-Reichenbach, and the ending is such a surprise.
And the Law Won by MofBaskerville. Mystrade. Explicit. 10,531 words. Mycroft has had a less-than-stellar experience with relationships, and breaks it off with Greg before those things can come to past. Greg isn’t happy about it.
Out of Thought by green_violin_bow. Mystrade. Explicit. 89,323 words. A fabulous love story wherein a disbelieving Mycroft is pursued by a besotted Greg.
The Habits of a Lifetime by out_there. Mystrade. Explicit. 54,234 words. One of my very favorite Mystrade stories. Mycroft is dealing with the aftermath of Sherrinford.
The Sad Divorced Bastards Club by out_there. Mystrade. Explicit. 19,987 words. Greg invites Mycroft to join a club. Mycroft accepts. I love out_there’s work!
Finding a Way series by MuchTooMerryMaidean. Mystrade. Mature. 116,152 words. This one is a difficult but wholly worthwhile read. TW for rape and rape recovery. I think this is a really important piece, though, the most genuine treatment of the topic in the fandom that I have come across - how rape impacts a person, but also the people around them. It also explores identity, politics of sex and gender, family relationships, and so much more. I’ve reread it twice now, and will probably reread again.
Take Care of Me (Scenario 52-B) by Aelfay. Explicit. 10,788 words. Need some hurt/comfort Mystrade in your life? Here ya go!
Please, Please, Please series by Sunnyrea. Explicit. 180,302 words. Mycroft begins courting Greg, but nothing is ever easy. Great story!
A Sense of Home by snorklepie. Explicit. 50,401 words. Greg pursues Mycroft. He also decides to get his life together.
AUs
Soul Mate by Mottlemoth. Mystrade. Teen. 4,068 words. Remember up above when I said The Sheltering Tree was the sweetest thing Mottlemoth ever wrote? I was wrong. It’s this soulmates AU.
Cold Hands, Warm Heart by chasingriver. Mystrade. Explicit. 51,553 words. Mycroft gets forced into a family ski vacation. The ski instructor is hot!
Pater Noster series by manic_intent. Mystrade. Explicit. 26,551 words. Good Omens AU! Mycroft is a demon and Lestrade is an angel. Things get tangled from there.
True Minds series by green_violin_bow. Mystrade. Explicit. A Jane Austen Persuasion AU! Need I say more?
The North Wind’s Lord by Mice. Mystrade. Explicit. 7,931 words. An AU where Greg tries to find out why the winter won’t stop. Mycroft is an out-of-sorts sorcerer.
A Safe Prisoner of His Fate by out_there. Mystrade. Explicit. 33,812 words. Young Mycroft is the captive of a dashing pirate. Yes please!
Bonfire Heart by JessieBlackwood. Mystrade. Mature. 44,075 words. Greg is a surgeon, and Mycroft is a pain in the arse. Excellent story!
Magical Realism or Sci-Fi in Canon
The Tenth Muse by Vulpesmellifera. Mystrade. Explicit. 25,365 words. Post-Reichenbach, magical realism, diverges from canon, and includes a side of Johnlock. Mycroft doesn’t deduce like Sherlock - he sees things. Creepy things.
Time Slips by mezzo_cammin. Mystrade. Explicit. Mycroft will do anything to save Greg’s life, even if it means making deals, and messing around with the space-time continuum.
Xmas Tales
A Christmas Carol by Mottlemoth. Mystrade. General. The funny part of this was that I was working out a Christmas Carol Johnlock version with my BFF, and I discovered this story and was all like “BFF! There’s a Sherlock fanfic of A Christmas Carol, but it’s a Mystrade.” And then I liked it so much I decided to abandon my version. Which is okay, because I moved on to fics for which I have a greater urgency to write later on.
Thawing the Ice Man by sanguisuga. Mystrade. Explicit. 5,681 words. Mycroft and Greg get stuck at Baker Street one night and have to share a bed. It’s Christmas!
So Full of Light by mydwynter. Mystrade. Explicit. 21,450 words. One of my favorite Xmas fics. Mycroft and Greg grow beards for a cause. And beards are hot.
For Services Rendered by Mottlemoth. Mystrade. Explicit. 10,582 words. Greg runs into someone at A&E on Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Spirit by ByrnTWedge. Mystrade. Explicit. 59,916 words. Inspired by It’s A Wonderful Life! Mycroft decides people would be better off without him, but interference by a miscalculating angel leads him to someone who wouldn’t be better off without Mycroft.
Tinder: A Christmas Tale by green_violin_bow. Mature. 8,860 words. This is excellent - Mycroft and Greg ‘accidentally’ match up on Tinder.
To Capture Light by Vulpesmellifera. Teen. 4,891 words. Post season 4, Mycroft has isolated himself in a Canadian chalet to deal with the personal consequences of Sherrinford. An unexpected visitor pops up on his doorstep.
Fideles by Anarfea. Mature. 4,744 words. I really liked this one. Greg’s wife is cheating, and Greg goes out for a walk. He meets up with Mycroft, and they sit for a drink. Maybe more?
Sickfics
Woes of the Pharynx by Vulpesmellifera. Mystrade. Gen. 844 words. An ailing Mycroft gets a little TLC from his detective inspector. Humorous ficlet. Promise it’ll make you smile!
Flu Humbug by Hastalux. Mystrade. Teen. 2,750 words. This could have gone under Xmas Tales, too, but here it is! Mycroft has the flu, and Greg gets creative in his care.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF A LINK DOESN’T WORK THANK YOU.

Fan Rec Friday
@conduitstreetcat reminded me of Fan Rec Friday and I had totally forgot b/c this week was a bit insane and I am exhausted. I’ve not actually read any fan fic this week (I don’t think) as I was so so busy. So here are some recs!
I know we’re meant to rec things that haven’t received much attention but I’d be remiss if I didn’t rec @saziikins Human Remains and Constantinople Falls, my absolute favourite pieces of fan fiction. No works have ever broken me down and built me up again, and have left me standing sobbing in Boots while I’d be quick to read an update when published.
Yeah, this was written for me, but it’s still adorable!  Read @lavenderandvanilla‘s Christmas gift for me- Deck The Halls.
And then there is this tender piece from Tammany called We Will Be Changed.
