One funny consequence of the official dimensions for pretty much every Star Wars ship being so off is that ILM apparently used those wonky TTRPG proportions instead of just going into the vault and looking at the actual model, and so the Tantive IV in Revenge of the Sith is like a chibi superdeformed version.
Tumblr media
I guess maybe the ship hit puberty between episodes III and IV?

So did the Empire just store the Tantive IV in a warehouse to gather dust?
I mean they didn’t destroy it.
The resistance have it in TROS, that much is clear.
Maybe they put it in a museum, and after their defeat it probably stayed there before being auctioned off or something.
Idk.

Chapter 21: Unveil
Tumblr media
···
During the Clone Wars, the Bad Batch is tasked with a variety of missions across the galaxy. An unexpected addition to their team throws a wrench in the mix, particularly for Tech, who finds a particular connection with this disillusioned Padawan-turned-mechanic named Vel throughout the events in this action-adventure romance. COVER ART BY @zaana!!
Master List of Chapters
Tumblr media
Author's Note -- this is a short one. I'm sorry. ;) A new arc begins tomorrow! And we've got some competition... some mystery... some joyful reunion... and some angst... nomnomnom
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Vel woke up in a stark, grey room, on a plain bed surrounded by monitors and tubes. She blinked a few times, trying to remember the events leading up to that point, when she realized the strangest sensations. Her whole spine felt tingly, almost as if it were made of bacta gel. She flexed her fingers, then tried to wiggle her toes, and the total lack of sensation below her waist made her gasp aloud.
"Ah, you're awake," came the most soothing voice she could have imagined at that moment. Tech was seated next to her bed, a couple old books and a datapad on the table next to him, as well as an assortment of ration bars, wrappers, and food scraps. He looked slightly disheveled, though much more like his usual self in his standard armor.
"You probably want an update. We completed the mission while you were passed out. I was able to install the program in the lab's central system and we left without a trace. We left some rumors with a few locals about Terrik's dishonest dealings with the wrong sort of people, and apparently his bad luck had caught up to him. At least that is what they all believed. Wrecker considered the mission a success, and I suppose we did complete our primary objective, but --"
"Tech," Vel interrupted, confused and feeling a panic begin to rise, "Why can't I feel my legs? I feel like my whole back is on fire, or ice, or something."
"Oh, that," Tech said, lowering his eyes to her prone form under the covers, "Your lumbar vertebrae were hit by Terrik's shot, resulting in paralysis from the point of trauma downward. However, we were able to get you to the medical bay of the Tantive IV as it was on a nearby diplomatic mission. The surgeons on board are proficient bone fusers and were able to reconstruct your spinal column with a couple small cybernetic implants, but the nerve damage will take some time to heal."
"So I'm stuck like this? For how long?" Vel asked, eyes glistening. The exhaustion, stress, and confusion were overwhelming, and she fought back tears with rapid blinks.
"I am not certain," Tech responded evenly, noticing her distress. He racked his brain for the most likely sources of comfort, opting for one that seemed the most natural. "It is most likely that you will be able to walk again in the near future. The timeline is impossible to estimate at this point."
Vel closed her eyes, wishing she could escape the sensation of electricity running up and down her body. She even thought she felt it in her legs, but that seemed impossible. Sleep felt tantalizingly inviting, even though she'd just woken up. Maybe just a short rest, to process it all... She felt a warm, gentle hand take hers and looked up to see Tech standing over her with as much of an empathetic expression as he could muster.
"Does this make you feel better?" he asked earnestly. "I am sorry for the incredibly unfortunate events you have endured. Broken bones are never ideal, and when the spinal cord is involved..." He trailed off, caught by the intensity of her gaze. "Would you like me to stop?"
"No," she said softly, bringing her other hand over to rest on top of his. "I'm glad you're here." Without her permission, her eyes lowered slowly, and she drifted off. Tech remained for a moment, watching her thoughtfully, before releasing her hand and returning to his seat.

Fuck it.
Sometimes the only thing for it is to write Star Wars AUs in the style of @klarionthewizard, shipping characters in ways that are guaranteed to piss people off.
Anyway, here’s what amounts to a prologue.
***
In many universes, our story starts with the capture of Tantive IV. This is one of those universes.
In most universes, Princess Leia Organa is taken into custody on board the ISD Devastator. An anxious young tech handles her in-processing and either misses the discrepancies in her gene scan, or believes them to be an error on their part and does not bring them up.
This is not one of those universes.
“Lord Vader?” Ensign Tibreo knows he is taking his life in his hands. But the safety of the Empire is at stake. His Lordship has to see this.
“What is it?” The towering figure turns toward him.
“My Lord, the genetic sample taken from the prisoner is not a match to the file for Princess Organa. This woman may be a decoy.” Ensign Tibreo is from Naboo, where intrigue and decoys are part of every folk story.
Lord Vader’s mask is impossible to read. For several long cycles of breath, he stares down at the young ensign at his station. Tibreo wonders vaguely what they’ll tell his mother when they ship his remains home.
“Compare her sample against the civilian database. Inform me when you have found a match.” The Sith lord sweeps out of the detention unit.
Even automated, the search takes two days. The officer in charge of detentions sends Tibreo to deliver the bad news.
“My Lord, the search revealed no genetic files matching the prisoner.” Tibreo isn’t nearly as nervous as his commanding officer seemed to expect when he sent him. “However, there are several partial matches, dating from the Clone Wars era. All are to a prominent family on Naboo. If I may, there is a tradition of using decoys during-”
“She is the Princess, ensign.” Vader cuts across his explanation, and Tibreo’s confidence plummets. But then he continues: “Give me the results of the search and tell no one of this. Your service to the Empire has been noted.”
Ten minutes later, Tibreo receives a notification that he is being promoted to lieutenant and transferred from Detention Security to Intelligence. Decades later, he will remember this as the moment that made his career.
And that is how Darth Vader learns that the adopted daughter of Bail and Breha Organa is the biological daughter of Padme Amidala.
In this universe, Vader never tortures Leia. Instead, he informs Tarkin that she is a decoy and takes her with him on the Devastator to search for the “real” Rebel princess.
Alderaan is never destroyed, and Obi-wan is not killed by Vader on board the Death Star. Instead, Tarkin intercepts transmissions between Bail Organa and Obi-wan Kenobi and deduces that the Rebel base is on Yavin IV. He and his space station meet their end there, marking the first great victory for the Rebellion.
Luke Skywalker goes down in history as the pilot who destroyed the Death Star, but Vader is not there to duel him in aerial combat. Only much later does he learn of the daring, Force-strong young man who bears Anakin’s name. While the Battle of Yavin rages, Darth Vader has bigger fish to fry.
The Emperor convinced him that he had killed his child along with Padme. At the Emperor’s bidding, he had been ready to do so again, never knowing the truth. The time has come for the Emperor to fall.
With his daughter beside him, Darth Vader will bring justice to the galaxy.

Year-End Fic Recs 2022 - part 1
Every year, my fellow fanfic writers blow me away with their talent, their creativity, and their heart. I’m compiling a list to share a few of the fics I read (or reread) this year and would recommend -- by no means an exhaustive list of the many talented writers and wonderful stories, and not exclusively stories that came out or updated this year, but a place to start. Because I have a lot to say, I’ll be sharing these in multiple posts.
Fic Recs Part I: Leia Organa Has Become Unstuck in Time
Tumblr media
One of my favorite tropes, I’m learning, is “Leia travels to the past -- either on purpose or by accident -- and tries her damnedest to fix things, while the people she meets inevitably fall in love with her and try to get her to let others take care of her for a change / make her take care of herself for at least ten minutes. With varying amounts of success.”
Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns by @chancecraz: TFA-era Leia Organa goes to sleep the night of Han’s death and wakes up in her 19-year-old body, just as 19-year-old Leia is being transported to the Death Star from the Tantive IV. *Stefon voice* This fic has everything: time travel, angst, humor, romance, Force shenanigans, unlikely friendships and surprising allies, scary parents, political intrigue, BAMF Leia Organa, ride-or-die Han Solo falling in love with Leia all over again, Bail and Breha Organa being awesome (and alive!), Luke educating others on Tatooine culture, Leia and Obi-Wan getting drunk together, dreamscape discussions between Leia and Vader, discussions of the clones and the Jedi, considerations of the fall of the Republic and the neglect of the Outer Rim, droids that make me cry, and just beautiful, complex writing throughout. It is a bit of a commitment (each chapter is often novella length or longer), has a fair amount of angst, and does include a timeline in which at least the TFA part of the sequels happened, but it’s well worth it.
The Don’t Look Back series (Like Fire in Our Bones, Blood of Our Father, and Duty Bound are the primary stories) by @this-acuteneurosis: Not long after ROTJ, Leia is grieving, having just lost Han, Luke, Chewie, and the droids while they were on a mission for the New Republic. Anakin Skywalker’s Force Ghost offers Leia a chance to go back in time to the person who could help her fix it all: a pre-AOTC Shmi Skywalker. When Leia and Shmi reconnect with Padmé on their way to Coruscant, they become part of refugee resettlement, political intrigue, Jedi business, clone rights, and much more. Includes some wonderful relationship-building with Obi-Wan and Anakin, Leia learning to deal with her power in the Force, Leia dealing with grief (or refusing to deal with grief, as the case may be), Leia trying to wend her way past Palpatine’s machinations, Threepio being important to the plot, some surprise help from Force Ghosts, Anakin getting some much-needed support, and Leia sassing a Sith Lord. Oh, and at some point you may find yourself shipping Leia and Obi-Wan (the OWK series is not canon in this story, just FYI). If you love Shmi or Padmé and the handmaidens, you will especially enjoy this series. The most recent fic, Duty Bound, is currently updating on a regular basis, but you should start from the beginning.
Shifting Sands by @chancecraz: TFA-era Leia is exploring a Force cave with Luke and ends up thrown back into TPM-era Mos Espa, where she meets Anakin and Shmi Skywalker prior to Padmé and Qui-Gon’s arrival. Told from different characters’ points of view, we see how Leia’s intervention with the two people she calls Old Man and Grandmother alters the prequel timeline and begins to change the Jedi’s approach to Anakin, their approach to the reemergence of the Sith, and Leia’s relationship with her own Force powers. Features wonderful characterization and perspectives from Mace Windu, Padmé Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and (coming up in the next chapter) Shmi Skywalker herself.
Fox and Leia’s Holiday Special by @yellowocaballero: This is a Tumblr-only fic that plays off another time-travel story by this author, Twilight on Owl Creek Bridge (which involves Clone Commander Fox and Leia connecting across time as Leia tries to avert her future and appears as a ghost in Fox’s present; also, Fox keeps waking up in the fountains in the Jedi Temple). In the Holiday Special, Leia is in prequel times and has managed to free Fox’s mind from Palpatine’s Dark Side programming and enlist him in her plot to assassinate his boss and prevent the rise of the Empire and the slaughter of the Jedi. But the recent changes in Fox -- including the fact that he is regularly seen willingly and happily interacting with a natborn Senator -- have not gone unnoticed by his clone brothers, who jump to some conclusions about his and Leia’s relationship. I love this little fic; it’s funny, tender, and has some wonderful things to say about how important a deep, platonic relationship can be, and how it can transform someone’s life. Also the power of office gossip to really throw things off.

Note
Since you mentioned it regarding The Mandalorian, Star Wars has always been FULL of cameos.
Granted in the original and prequel films it was limited to cameos from production staff (like Ralph McQuarrie in echo base in ESB, or Ben Burtt playing an imperial officer in ROTJ). But still.
I see no problem with it. (I personally LOVED seeing Lizzo and Jack Black in The Mandalorian, as unexpected as their appearances may have been)
I’d say the celebrity cameos started with the release of The Force Awakens (see Daniel Craig playing a stormtrooper, among MANY others). But the production staff still make appearances too (Rian Johnson is a Death Star technician in Rogue One, Gareth Edwards plays a rebel soldier on the Tantive IV (he pulls a lever!) in R1 and he plays a resistance soldier in TLJ).
I’ve gotten VERY good at spotting them when I have to look. Especially when they’re just extras.
Idk.
I love seeing it myself.
What do you think?
what makes you think that I, a star wars exclusive blog, don't already have all this information.
the criteria is simple, if the cameo is cringe, then it sucks. that's it! the Lizzo and Jack Black cameo sucked because them randomly showing up feels like being forced to watch a cringe SNL skit instead of the escapist sci-fi fantasy that star wars is supposed to be. i don't have anything against Lizzo or Jack Black personally, their appearance on the show just makes the show shittier. hope this helps!
