I’ve heard of one man bands, but this is ridiculous… if there are two things I love, it’s old band photos and silent comedians, so undoubtedly this one is a home-run. Buster Keaton, circa 1930. That’s my best guess based on the presence of a Cliff Edwards Tenortrope (if I’m not mistaken, Dobro started making those in 1930)- a particularly cool detail. A pal of mine out in New Orleans has got one- as a Cliff Edwards fanatic, I’d kill to get my mitts on one.

Gibson Tenor Banjo, used by Vivian Hayes source: Smithsonian, National Museum of American History
This banjo was made by the Gibson, Inc. in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1927. It is a Four-String Tenor Banjo, Mastertone TB-5 Model, short neck, serial number 8693-1, with black walnut shell, black walnut neck, rosewood fingerboard with iridescent ivoroid and marquetry strippings, inlay of white pearl designs, similar ornamentation applied to peghead, 4:1 geared pegs with pearl buttons, electrical lights inside the head, gold-tone metal parts, and a laminated and arched flange resonator with marquetry and ivoroid inlays.
This banjo was custom made for vaudevillian performer Vivian Chenoweth Hayes with jeweled accents on the peghead and inscribed with “Vivian.”
Vivian Hayes toured with her husband Ed Hayes and sister Frances as "Ed Hayes and His Banjo Girls" from 1927-1930.
As indicated in a 1926 Gibson Banjo Catalog testimonial: “The new Gison Mastertone Tenor-banjo is assuredly a marvel instrument. Its snappy tone, coupled with the rich tonal qualities and its ease of playing, make it an instrument which can be used for all purposes – dance, radio and concert.”

Although I've been using my Singular Sound Aeros looper for a good while now, I've been continuously pondering how I can best incorporate it into what I already do. And y'all, I think I've got myself a slightly more complex live looping setup that is ready for live performance. I guess that means I should probably put it all on a pedal board. :-(

Gypsy jazz influenced, idiosyncratic song feat. banjo and melodica.
The ending kind of sounds like music from a Louis Theroux documentary.

hmmmmmmmmmm I think I might see if I can sell/trade in some of the instruments I have; I can't exactly play any of them all that well and they're just taking up space in my closet

I thought it was time for my ✨INTRODUCTION POST✨
Hi there!
My name’s Cara i’m 18 years old and I’m a Reformed Protestant and massive Broadway and musical theatre fan
-My favorite movie is West Side Story 2021
-My favorite Broadway show is Newsies
-My favorite TV show is probably The Dick Van Dyke Show but I also love Gilmore Girls
-My favorite performer is Aaron Tveit and hopefully one day I’ll get to see him in person
-My favorite music (outside of musicals) is anything by Laufey but my taste is super diverse and I can jam to basically anything
-My favorite color changes super often but right now it’s red
-My favorite Newsie is—uh—I CANT PICK but race, and albert hold a very special place in my heart
I have a ton of hobbies including but not limited to:
-Drawing, gardening, painting, playing the guitar, violin, banjo, and piano (I’m not very good but it’s fun) writing, cooking, reading, working out, sewing, crocheting
Random facts about yours truly:
-I sing a ton but have a low range for a girl so tenor songs are where it’s at 🤙
-I have four older siblings and four younger
-Anastasia got me WAY to into Soviet Russia history
-I hope to start taking ballet classes in the future but don’t have time for it now
-I have five crazy nieces and nephews
-I’ve never been in theatre but my dream roles are Race from Newsies and Anastasia from Anastasia. Hopefully I’ll start acting soon. I’m trying to find a community theater.
-I taught myself how to harmonize by ear and now struggle more to stay on melody than harmony
Shows I love and will post about include:
Newsies

so uh, tssm band au i guess
might eventually do the rest of the designs but i doubt im gonna do anything with this au aside from some art and daydreaming
thank you @voltrixz for the continued fueling of my brain rot
ramblings abt the au under the cut
ok so sandmans lead guitar, shocker is rhythm guitar and also electric banjo when the vibe fits and vocals (baritone/tenor range), electro plays bass (can play guitar but mains bass) and vocals (baritone with particularly good low growly notes), vulture gets the keys and can sing but doesn't do much aside from some backup here and there for the whole group (baritone/tenor but like, softer, good falsetto), rhinos drums and vocals (bass), and ock gets the mother fucking theremin he does also swap out for keys tho (but he's mostly a classical piano type)
their style is very all over the place but stick mostly to rock and similar feeling genres. each song tends to feel a bit more like one persons style in particular. they swap around vocals depending on the vibe with the more growly, heavy metal, screaming type vocals going to electro and rhino while shocker and vulture are more traditional ig with their singing. ock does most the composing and vulture majority of the lyric writing. they're in a constant state of breaking up, getting back together, and rearranging members
spider-band! ok so peter of guitar and vocals (tenor, he's the front man), gwen on drums and vocals (mezzo-soprano), and harry plays keys (cause cmon no way he wasn't required to take piano lessons or smth) and will do some backup vocals but like he's not a singer and he knows it. mj joins later on and plays bass, she joins in on the backup vocals (alto) when with the band but does have an insane voice, she does do plenty of solo work tho.
mysterio plays like, everything. but is most known for playing the electric violin cause cmon its a fuckin electric violin that shits cool. high baritone tenor (just like, imagine the phantom ok that was my only thought process with this decision). he did try to go into acting but for as great as he is with everyone on tech he's a little shit to work with if he's onstage and too cheesy for most directors. fucking ate as carlos in a production of legally blonde once tho. he works a lot with chameleon (somehow manages to do great hair, makeup, and costuming) and tinkerers some sorta techie but my tech experience is all theater and i know jack about instruments and shit
black cat imma say is an alto (listen i was an alto for a long while before i became a tenor) and like, i think poppy is a good point of reference for some of the vibes im getting for her. and in general a mix of like, sultry seductive type songs and straight up heavy metal.
ok sandman and rhino were/are obviously a duo, shocker does his own solo stuff and is a part of the enforcers (its straight up country),
literally no fucking clue for kraven. ok i think this is everything i thought of. if you read all of this thank you lmao
ok its 1am and i got shit to do tmrrw love yall talk to me abt this show at any time pls
