#text #i'm trying really hard to actually work on the worldbuilding and such and figure out the true 'villain' #i know technically vocal android can never really become a 'story'...not really... #but i kinda want to make it more focused toward something. you know what i mean. try to give the characters a real enemy #that complements the themes #i DID have a villain in mind before but now i don't know if it'll work out...so i'm trying to figure out something else #it's really difficult... #i wish i knew someone actually good at writing to tell me if i'm just barking up the wrong tree at this point #am i taking this too seriously?? #idk. but heads up for future content and such i suppose

Sun isn't the only animatronic doing crafts in the daycare. Sporting the finest in handcrafted cardboard accessories, Fairy Princess Moon decided to swing on by @daycarefriendpickup's Magma this past weekend.

I'd gathered way back that Typheus's lair was surrounded by pipes because they're a Dad symbol, making John on some level fight Dad again. But I learned a moment ago that the disease 'typhus' derives its name from a Greek word for smoke, so it appears the same logic might apply to the denizen itself... 'typhus' is also a relative of 'typhoon', which others have linked to John's wind powers, but that's not really my focus here.

Cetus then represents Mom, based both on the use of whale as a sexist epithet (Blubber, huge bitch) and the mass slaughter of the fish in the sea which reflects/asserts Mom's infertility. Rose also alludes to massacres at the hands of 'whales' in the excerpt of CotL we see: the fat wizard Smarny (whose name suggests a kind of pancake) looks guiltily upon the dessert-textured corpse pile, and the final line is a Moby Dick reference via Jaws. These would seem to be the abstracted continuations of Rose spelling out 'shrew' on the refrigerator

Hephaestus then, must represent Bro...? His status as blacksmith connects to the Striders' fixation on swords obviously, but it would become a contradiction that Hephaestus repairs what Bro breaks? There's also some sort of racial angle I think, there's tidbits here and there that associate Hephaestus's charred black skin with his "lameness"... Dave says Mr. T's lameness is what makes him ironically cool -- which via Hephaestus becomes an implicit indictment of Bro? Dave says he's training to be a "lame gothy supervillain" when goth-as-black has been racialized by Oglagoth ("black ogle") -- which contains a note of bitterness about his emulation of Bro and the lame shades that darken his leer? There are numerous references to sunglasses (or other dark screens) as "lame" throughout the story that feel loaded now... and sexually loaded at that, since the racialized appearance of blindness (shades) is itself an unbreakable katana, and apparent lack (a disability or lameness) that signals comprehensive sight (total potency, ninja sword as BBC)... or something like that. The Mr. T rant seems to encompass some of the ambivalence around regard for blackness, and Bro's been chained to that line of thought like a Chuck Norris puppet

This all implicates Grandpa as Echidna, but I'm unsure how to connect the two. The Dr. Moreau epithet would mark him as a mother of monsters? Some accounts locate Echidna's cave Arima on a volcanic island? The matter of calling Grandpa "she-viper" (feminine phallus?) might align with how depictions of Grandpa as a sexual threat have a certain homophobic tint... I don't know. Unlike Hephaestus, I don't have a convenient word to latch onto to search for repeated motifs, though Joey's hatred of serpents would seem to retroactively encourage the she-viper angle

Hm... the lack of insult in Typheus-as-smoke feels off too, in the wake of the other three. Maybe it will all click later

THIS. they have done so well #and I've arranged them like this because each ep theme seems to match/complement another in a deliberately structured way #ep 1 and ep 12 #ep 2 and ep 11 #etc etc #I mean...you describe the sea/ocean as 'crystal clear waters' #red and green are opposite colours on the colour wheel #soft blush and pink. hello?! #deep and dark are often metaphorically similar #then winter white and cloudy grey - both colour-wise similar but also both related to the environment (weather/seasons) #and yellow and orange - both similar colours but 'fire' yellow is like the sun and thus the 'sunset' orange #look I could go on but maybe I'll write a proper post about it some other time #anyway... #time for the eclipse...

the "there's a good album in there" takes are so funny to me

#mostly because its the exact sentiment ive had about nearly all of her releases #i always do have to cut and/or reorder the tracks to make them feel like an album™️ for me #vs the collection of songs that are snapshots of certain points in her life which is mostly what her art has beeb #and theres nothing bad about that because they are snapshots so at the least there is usually some loose theme running through them #but the execution isnt always up to scratch in terms of song choice and order from my interpretation #and thats the thing with being a creative and putting art out to be consumed the art will be consumed and interpreted #and the interpretation is commentary on the consumers own experiences the way the art itself could be commentary of the writers own experien #and when you're putting art into the world you do have to be at peace with the fact there will be these interpretations #whether theyre in the forms of complements or criticism and be able to separate the constructive vs the not #otherwise the art can still be made it'll always find a way to be made but nothing ever has to be put out to be consumed #yeah that one quote just irked me #(and before anyone hates shes not the only artist i think this about) #dais speak not*

So I just discovered Quaquaval’s Dream World artwork and it is absolutely fabulous! More fabulous than it normally looks, and it’s extremely fabulous anyway. This artwork almost makes me wish I chose Quaxly but I prefer Meowscarada so I guess I’ll just have to leave the fabulous gay duck in Nemona’s care. Also that means I only have to see Skeledirge in one battle because if I chose Quaquaval Nemona would’ve chosen the ugly croc. On the plus side, you know how much I love F-Zero? Well I may or may not have decided that Falcon’s starter would be the Quaxly line

#I just had to bring F-Zero into this didn’t I? #quaquaval #i swear any complement I can use towards Meowscarada I can also use towards Quaquaval and it would work considerably better on the gay duck #I’d say that’s sad because I prefer Meowscarada (best Pokémon alongside Ceruledge) #but I also love Quaquaval #if it weren’t for Skeledirge this otherwise-fabulous trio would be the best starter trio #but the ugly croc exists so it’s between Kalos Alola and Galar for me #things have changed since the last time I updated about my favourite starter trios (most notably Cinderace overthrowing Delphox) #honestly I think the Paldean trio doesn’t work that well as a trio #I’ve accidentally made Meowscarada work better as a pair with Ceruledge (trio if including Iron Valiant) #I hate Skeledirge it’s only there for the anti-furries and I wouldn’t have a problem w/that if it weren’t ugly af #Quaquaval just feels like it would work better on its own #or in a duo with another (Water-type) Pokémon #(I want to say Armarouge but I can’t see people choosing Scarlet and Quaquaval) #theming-wise the trio works but idk for some reason I just don’t think they do #unless I’m comparing them to the Kalos trio #but it doesn’t seem like that’s gonna be a likely situation with how much the Galar trio has grown on me recently #I love how Meowscarada (yes even my modest Meowscarada Spriggie) and Quaquaval are attention-whores #Skeledirge seems like it would become a smug attention-whore after discovering it’s the most popular of the trio #maybe that’s why Meowscarada and Quaquaval are attention-whores #maybe Meowscarada and Quaquaval would be better off as a duo #I have seen artwork of the two of them (I think they’re playing card games) without Skeledirge #and as much as I hate removing one member of a starter trio without also removing a second member to leave only one #it actually works

Idk if it’s just me, but I think the Skulltimate Secrets designs should’ve been the main core designs for the G3 crew. The outfits have colors that don’t clash at all and they aren’t riddled head to toe with motifs. 😭
