this book is a great ode to mary wallstonecraft shelley. it starts out good (if a bit slow), but the ending is GREAT.
plus selfishly I loved that the whole premise of this retelling fits perfectly with my own analysis of the original we are Victor Frankenstein haters in this household

Sometimes a family is an affront to God, his stepmom, and the bookseller who inadvertantly led to his creation.

Propaganda:
Victor and Elizabeth, The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein: As a child, he didn’t want to be separated from Elizabeth even for school, and he didn’t react well to Henry kissing her. As an adult, he’s much worse, orchestrating her best friend Justine’s death not only for his experiments but because he was jealous of Elizabeth's love for her.
Hawa and Adam: Hawa is a sweet girl best friends with Rozy, Adam’s neighbor who rightly suspects him to be a serial killer. It’s implied that he genuinely grew to like Hawa in his own way, but initially sought to date her to antagonize Rozy further. The relationship moves quickly and he begins to isolate her from friends, especially Rozy.

I've been browsing the dark descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein's tag and I saw so many disappointed people disliking it, so I thought I might as well say my piece about it, considering it's genuinely one of my favourite books:
Adaptations are not supposed to be literally the exact same story as the original
Like, I get it, I love Frankenstein, it's beautifully written, and it's themes are quite interesting,
but you can't go into another work, written way later by a completely different person, and expect it to be a continuation on that style and theme, because, flat out, that shouldn't be the goal.
The dark descent uses the setting of Frankenstein to expand to it's own theme and world, it does, by necessity, kind of acknowledge some of them, but that isn't the focus. The focus of the book is Elisabeth, and more specifically to the dark descent, it focuses on the dubious morality of *her* acts in this version, about the inherent selfishness of survival and so on, because it's a fundamentally different book.
You could probably argue that it's weird to use Frankenstein as a basis then, to a completely unrelated tale. and maybe it kind of is, but I'd argue that it's how stories have existed and evolved for the vast majority of human history, and that it's only recently that this idea became uncomfortable to people, (perhaps partially as a result of the continued extentions on copyright law for certain properties)
Take for example the stories of king Arthur, the basic tale of king Arthur is quite short, it's OK, mildly unclear but cute enough (with very muddy origins), but as time passed, and stories moved, various storytellers and writers added their own additions and takes. more knights, more and newer motivations, and even more story details,
and maybe most interestingly, the changes that happened with Arthur, Guinevere and lancelot, as time morals and ideals of the writer change, as do the stories of the three, from courtly love to cheating, people have their own takes over time about who those characters are, and that's ok!!! That's what stories are about!!!

One of the strangest critiques I see over The Dark Descent is that it made everyone straight and...I don't have the original novel for comparison, but I'm not certain that ANYONE in that book (except for MAYBE Judge Frankenstein) was straight

I've started reading The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and I love it so much. I love how cunning and calculating Elizabeth is and how Victor is LITERALLY FUCKING INSANE

in that moment i thought i heard again the noise of my dreams. the haunting cry of a soul so alone, even being in hell in the company of the other damned would be a comfort.

The Dark Descent Of Elizabeth Frankenstein
Trigger Warnings, are HEAVY for this book: Murder, Violence, Betrayal, Womanly slurs (such as: whore and slut), Corpse mutilation, Gore, Insane asylums, Abuse, and a very very very controlling husband.
SCREAMING, CRYING, ALL THINGS NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE.
So, I finished this earlier but was out of the house so I could not update it. Now then, I was sitting in class trying not to finish this one before school (since I didn't bring another), and I finished it. I haven't really been reading this one all that much, but oh boy. I was not prepared AT ALL for the way it ended, we didn't get a definite ending and we didn't get what we wanted from this, but in a way... it was all I've ever asked for.
When I picked this book up, I thought it was gonna be a light read, I thought it was gonna be a 'partners in crime' kind of book. So, having said that, I did NOT expect it to end like this.
Below, is a spoiler!
I was reading, I read fast. I'm near the end and the suspense is building up. It's been confirmed Victor, is the bad guy. Victor, is the one who killed his little brother. Victor thought he was helping Elizabeth, he thought what he was doing was right. Victor didn't want to lose the only person he ever loved, so he tried to find a way to make her immortal. He thought he was helping her, so he kept doing it. He didn't bother to think of others, he was helping his Elizabeth. He didn't take into consideration that maybe, just maybe Elizabeth didn't want to become immortal. A little bit of  a screw up on his part.
I was at the beginning of the end (yes, there is such a thing. to me anyways), and oh boy! When Elizabeth saw Justine on that table, my heart SANK "Oh no, I thought he was on Elizabeth's side-" WELL WELL WELL YOU THOUGHT WRONG. Victor killed his lover's best friend so he could make his lover immortal. He didn't want to lose her, he thought this was his only option. HE WANTED TO SAVE ELIZABETH. Elizabeth didn't want to be saved, I understand that. There was nothing to save her from but Victor was scared. Victor didn't want to lose her, he felt like if he lost her, his entire world would be gone. So he tried to find a way to make her immortal. Props to Victor for not giving up ig???
Yeah my love for Victor kind of died when he put her in a mental hospital and framed her for HIS work, that is not how you show love honey. But Elizabeth did get her revenge in the end and they all lived happily ever after? Maybe? I have no clue, the epilogue didn't give clarification.

Propaganda:
Victor and Elizabeth, The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein (art by Nanfe1789): As a child, he didn’t want to be separated from Elizabeth even for school, and he didn’t react well to Henry kissing her. As an adult, he’s much worse, orchestrating her best friend Justine’s death not only for his experiments but because he was jealous of Elizabeth's love for her.
Kyoko and Katsuya: Another groomer. Katsuya was Kyoko’s teaching assistant and “saved” her from her family. She fell in love with him, and he apparently reciprocated, all while saying creepy stuff like “It’s your fault for being born too late”.

Blurb: Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver”, and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets...until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything except a friend. Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable...and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon, she and Victor are inseparable...but her new life comes at a price. As the years pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive - no matter the cost - as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.
