#the romanticization of serial killers

i don’t get ppl who think real life serial killers are attractive or cool or whatever. like those are Real People. if you wanna call a serial killer babygirl just find a fictional one
like. there’s so many fictional murderers and such that people make edits and fanart/fanfic of and it’s a billion times less problematic than doing that with Actual Real Life Killers. go draw patrick bateman in a maid dress. make some edits of (matthew lillard as) stu and william afton.
have fun with it bc at the end of the day, they are fictional characters and doing that stuff doesn’t hurt anybody. however, doing that with real life killers? that does hurt people.
basically: don’t romanticize actual serial killers when it’s so much less fucked up to just call hannibal lecter your babygirl or draw the riddler as a catboy

I guess this is technically an Anti Wyler ship post, but about the Addams and their values:
I've seen some people say "Wednesday would date or be ok with Tyler because she herself performed autopsies, tortured her younger brother Pugsley", and other macabre things referenced or depicted in past Addams Family shows, and it strikes me as ironic and worrying that these people are misinterpreting what The Addams Family Show and characters countered in pop culture/society. Just because these characters like the dark, unexpected stuff, doesn't mean they are ok with murder, or that the Addams lack morals. They have them, they just don't follow conventional means or thought processes.
'They're creepy and they're kooky Mysterious and spooky They're all together ooky The Addams family...' 'Neat Sweet Petite...' 'Strange Deranged The Addams family'
Even counting the final verse of the theme song, nothing there says anything about actually being what they appear. Society views them as "Strange" or "Deranged", they may seem "spooky" to visitors (people unused to them), but they aren't as first impressions would imply, as the "Neat, sweet, Petite" line reminds us.
I think a part of this comes from the show also not fully being like the past adaptations where The Addams (despite contrasting conventional societal norms of what we think a "loving" family should look like) at their core were a loving goofy family, and challenged and disproved the conventional nuclear family. These type of people miss the point of who the Addams were, and that they were and are suppose to be the rep for the people labeled "oddballs/freaks" of society. Just because they are different doesn't mean they are pro murdering innocent people, and to say Wednesday would be ok with murder (when even despite that lacking feel of satire towards the conventional from this adaptation of the Addams the show itself has Wednesday working to stop and solve these murders all the while guided by a spirit called Goodie) makes me chuckle in disbelief. I think part of why Enid and Wednesday together drew so many people is that it captures and reminds us of that unconventional love, that quirky love, we got from the past adaptations when we visited the Addams Media, but that is detracting from my "Wednesday Addams is not ok with murder, nor is her family" rant.

What you have to understand is that horror is extremely romantic and romance is extremely horrifying

Please tell me more about soap who should probably be locked in the psych ward. I wanna be his best friend forever
he sends me postcards from the asylum <33
soap was pretty young whenever his brain started whispering that he should hurt people. it started with his younger sister, soap was nine when she was born, a tiny fragile thing that he’d only held once. he’d been brushing the small amount of hair on her head with his fingers when his thoughts flipped from loving remarks to what shade of red her blood would be if he pushed and pushed until her soft skull cracked open beneath his fingers.
he cried so hard he passed out on the bathroom floor, hands stuck clasped from his hurried, unfinished prayers. it was safe to say he hadn’t held her again the rest of her infancy.
he had always thought he was a good person. he did his best to be kind, be understanding, be helpful, but every time he let his guard down that grating voice would tempt him into harming those he loved, those he’d befriended. it was scary, not knowing whether or not he had the self control to contain his bubbling rage, his horrible urges.
it became easier to ignore as he got older but sometimes he just couldn’t. sometimes all he could hear was his own breaths and the screaming rampage of a beast locked behind thick mental walls. he’d tell the doctor he slammed the door on his broken fingers on accident, and the next month he’d say the head wound was from “falling” out of the tree in his back yard.
he never really tells anyone, but select few figure it out. and every night he has to go to sleep knowing the closest people to him can never really trust that he won’t snap and slaughter them on a bad day.

Hi! I was wondering if you could give a director's commentary on William's relationship with Arthur? I get the impression that Billy never knew or understood that Arthur was in the Marionette, although that just may be me.
Unfortunately William did figure it out eventually that his youngest son was haunting the Marionette, and that the Crying Child was the key to those horrible powers.
By that point, the grief and anger in him had long since eroded what was left of good sense or any smidgen of 'maybe I shouldn't try to cheat/control Death.' His driving force was to bring his youngest back, and when Henrietta was killed by Circus Baby, it drove him deeper over the edge. He failed at so many things, and his inability to loosen his control or reconsider what his motives were lead to him deciding to settle on: 'if I can't be happy, why the fuck should any one else ever be?'
The Animatronics, from the Puppet down to the little Minireenas, were nothing but tools to be used. His children save for maybe Henrietta were tools. (And if she were a good daughter, he reasoned, she'd have listened to her father, wouldn't she?) The spirits from the children he killed were tools, too. People were pawns, to be discarded after use as necessary. Gather enough spiritual force and he could rewrite his ending, he could bring whoever he wanted back, he could even cheat Death himself...
His relationship before Arthur died was mild, not exactly perfect but not bad, either. Distant but there, I guess. He was the youngest, the quietest, and the rearing of the Afton children tended to be left to Michael's hands while William was running a business. Henrietta never listened but rarely got punished before the whole fiasco at the diner. Alexander was often in trouble, always acting out. Michael was never on time, always had his head in the damn clouds, and couldn't be trusted. Arthur was...good at school, William might settle on. He saw a great future ahead of the boy, Arthur showed brains at a young age that might even mean he'd carry the Diner and its Animatronics far into the future.

its wild ur actually one of the people who are arguably more normal about abuse/grooming/incest in fiction and overtly discuss it as something engaging and compelling bc its bad. like ur blog is such a breath of fresh sometimes air bc u actually engage in the themes associated with the topic instead of just trying to own the antis
thank u!!! literally exactly what im trying to do!!! like after those asks i kinda went inward and was like ok, lets examine if i really come across like a person that's unironically pro-grooming/abuse/incest, so i went through my entire blog and i really dont think so?? literally every time i mention one of those things they're either in connection w something unambigously bad (example: fascism in sw) & portrayed as a symptom of that, or they're presented as the perversion of feelings that are supposed to be parental/platonic (twin peaks, or the tatooine exile era in sw), or its literally just me talking about books & academic essays. not that those connections r necessary to discuss any of these things, matter of fact this is tumblr.com its never that serious who give a shit what ppl post, but yk they should've made it pretty obvious anyway that this blog is not an endorsement.

⚠️Warning super long rant coming your way ⚠️
I think we as a society would improve if we stop romanticizing villains and serial killers. Now I’m not one to talk, since I’m guilty of this as well. I have a crush on Wally darling from welcome home and I follow his yandere tag and I read those fanfics and headcanons with a sort of twisted glee. I suppose I’m just as guilty as the people I’m calling out and if you say that invalidates what I’m saying, I understand.
But (and this is a really important but here) if someone IN REAL LIFE tried to kidnap me and cut me off from and even try to kill my family, who I love and adore more than anything, I would try them to get on the death row before I send him there myself. I think the problem is not enough people understand that.
Just because someone was abused doesn’t mean they get to abuse you. If you want to help them that’s good, but it shouldn’t be at the cost of your own safety. I think a good example of this is the canon ship catadora from the Netflix show she ra. Catadora is the canon pairing of Adora and Catra and it is unhealthy, toxic and abusive.
No one deserves a relationship like that if you’re in one I’m truly sorry and I hope you can get out of there soon. Yet people defend this ship with their lives. I don’t understand why. Catra was physically, emotionally and psychologically abusing Adora for most of her life. Yes, Catra was abused by shadow weaver but so was Adora. She should have cut catra off just like she did with shadow weaver.
I heard somewhere that the show’s creator actually based Catra’s and Adora’s relationship off her own and I hope whoever’s Adora cuts the Catra off and finds better, healthier relationships
I guess what I’m trying to say is that there’s nothing wrong with liking villains and I’m not sure what to do about yanderes if I like them yet I know how horrible they would be in real life but we need to understand how just because it’s cool or hot in fiction doesn’t make excuse it in real life and we need to tell our kids that before they become a serial killer fangirl and become part of the problem

i personally think the funniest lie james somerton told was that cis straight women romanticize jeffery dahmer bc he was gay and killed gay men and that if his victims were women it would be a different story
bro. have u heard of this guy. named ted bundy.

the fact that so many people (including those involved in the show itself) are ignoring the wishes of the victims' families to NOT have the worst parts of their lives dramatized just so millenial/gen z women can obsess over a hot guy playing a serial killer is a little disturbing

shit i guess i'm gonna have to add one more dni/dnf in my bio
for those wondering, i am NOT amused by those who glorify/romanticize serial killers, school shooters and the like. these are REAL fuckers who ruined REAL people's lives and families. i don't find it cute or alluring.
i'm sorry that i have to even bring this up, i didn't want to have say this and if it causes me to lose a follower or two then ig there's nothing i can do. it just makes me uncomfortable and i don't like seeing it
