Far-right extremists on pro-Donald Trump message boards and social networks are making violent, antisemitic threats against the judge who reportedly signed the warrant that allowed the FBI to search the former President's Mar-a-Lago property in Florida.

Multiple members of these toxic online communities are even posting what appears to be Judge Bruce Reinhart’s home address, phone numbers, and names of his family members alongside threats of extreme violence.

“This is the piece of shit judge who approved FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago,” a user wrote on the pro-Trump message board formerly known as TheDonald. “I see a rope around his neck.”

Responding, another user wrote: “Idgaf [I don’t give a fuck] anymore. Name? Address? Put that shit all up on here.” Moments later, a different member replied with what appears to be Reinhart’s current address, phone numbers, previous addresses, and names of possible relatives.

In another post on the same message board, one user commented, “Let's find out if he has children....where they go to school, where they live...EVERYTHING.”

These threats of violence and antisemitic slurs on a range of platforms, including 4chan, Telegram, Gettr, Gab, and Trump’s own platforms called Truth Social, were first uncovered by Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization that conducts public-interest investigations.

“The threats against Judge Reinhart in the wake of the Mar-a-Lago raid are significant,” Daniel J. Jones, founder of Advance Democracy, told VICE News. “In addition to the antisemitic and violent slurs, we’re seeing his address and other personal information being shared online—with the implied or explicit purpose of ‘real-life’ action.”

A message board where a number of these threats were posted also happens to be the same one where many of those involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot posted threats of violence in the lead-up to Jan. 6.

These threats against the Judge, Jones told VICE News, are “all the more alerting given the events of January 6.”

These threats made against Reinhart and his family didn’t occur in a vacuum: Within hours of the FBI searching Trump’s Palm Beach home, the former President’s supporters reacted furiously, calling for civil war and the dismantling of the FBI. As Trump has scrambled to explain why his home was searched, he has also pushed conspiracy theories about the FBI supposedly planting evidence there.

Right-wing news outlets have also tried to connect the judge to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Reinhart worked as a federal prosecutor until 2008, and a day after he quit, he became the defense attorney for a number of Epstein’s employees, including his pilots and a scheduler, according to his 2018 Miami Herald report. The link between Reinhart and Epstein has been weaponized by Trump supporters to incorrectly imply Reinhart was Epstein’s own lawyer, and, by extension, was corrupt and possibly a pedophile. (A small note in light of these accusations: Trump had a long personal relationship with Epstein, and once famously told New York Magazine that he was a “terrific guy.”)

On fringe message board 4chan, one user posted an image of Reinhart with the caption: “About that Judge that signed the search Warrant…Bruce Reinhart once quit his job as a U.S. Attorney to work for Jeffrey Epstein." Another 4chan user wrote in response: “That is a kike. And a pedophile … He should be tried for treason and executed.”

“The U.S. Marshals are responsible for the protection of the federal judicial process, and we take that responsibility very seriously,” a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals told VICE News when asked for comment about the threats. “While we do not discuss our specific security measures, we continuously review the measures in place and take appropriate steps to ensure the integrity of the federal judicial process.”

The FBI deferred comment to the U.S. Marshals, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida told VICE News “the Court has no comment.”

The account, run by Brooklyn real estate agent Chaya Raichik, tweeted on August 11 that “Boston Children's Hospital is now offering ‘gender-affirming hysterectomies’ for young girls.”

The claim has been widely debunked by fact-checking groups—but as is typical in anti-trans rhetoric, facts rarely matter, and the claims were shared widely on right-wing social media accounts.

“Long past time to start executing these ‘doctors,’” a member of a pro-Trump message board formerly known as TheDonald, wrote under a copy of a video featuring a doctor from the hospital.

This message board is the same one whose members last week doxed and made violent threats against the judge who signed the search warrant that allowed the FBI to search the home of former President Donald Trump.

There were similar reactions to the claims in far-right and conspiracy-minded Telegram groups. “Demons like this do not deserve to breathe! Crimes against humanity=DEATH,” one Telegram user wrote under a link to one of the articles repeating the false claims. “These people are physcopaths [sic] and should be locked up,” another wrote. On both platforms, the doctors and hospital staff were referred to as “pedophiles” and “groomers,” attacks that have become a mainstay of Republican orthodoxy in recent months.

The Donald and Der Fuhrer: Not a Perfect Match

In my last post titled, February 27, 1933 - January 6, 2021 , a paean to the January 6th hearings, I pointed out a number of things Mr. Trump and Herr Hitler shared in common. In the interests of fairness, I’d like to now point out where Hitler and Trump are very different.

Phenotype

Adolf Hitler

5’8" +/-, black hair, thin build; Charlie Chaplin mustache.

Donald Trump

6’2” or 6’3” or 6’4 ¾” Weight 244 lbs. or 265lbs. or 289 lbs; Blond hair in a comb-over, comic-book hero windswept look.

Blue eyes aside, chances are they'd never pass for twins

Psychological profile

Adolf Hitler

A psychopath driven by an irrational, burning hatred, especially of Jews, he curiously permitted himself one exception.That was Dr. Bloch, the Jewish physician who treated Hitler’s mother for breast cancer and charged the family little or nothing despite the fact he was at the Hitler home in Linz virtually every day for months.

After Germany’s annexation of Austria, Hitler protected Bloch, having the Gestapo of all organizations, ensure he wouldn’t be harassed. Hitler also made it possible for Bloch to emigrate to the United States in 1940 after the start of WWII.

While other Jews fortunate enough to be able to leave were forced to sell their homes for a fraction of their worth, Bloch received full fair-market value for his.

No amount of rationalizing in the case of Dr. Bloch seems to make sense since Hitler’s visceral hatred of Jews possibly more than any other factor, was responsible for the Holocaust.

Donald Trump

Scores of people from his niece, Mary Trump, to psychiatrists, to me — I took a year of psychology in college including a semester of abnormal psychwhich qualifies me to make a diagnosis…okay an opinion...how about a mildly informed guess — concluded Mr. Trump is a narcissistic sociopath.

Rather than being consumed by irrational hatred or even rational hatred, Donald Trump is consumed by love...of himself. He's often demonstrated it by taking credit for others' successes and shifting blame for his failures. In fact the phrase “throwing somebody under the bus” was coined just for him.

Mr. Trump has hired then fired everybody from attorneys general to his “favorite” child. Okay, so he didn’t exactly fire Ivanka. But, hearing Bill Barr testify that Joe Biden won the election and reports that it was stolen were "bullshit", Ivanka told the Committee, "It affected my perspective. I respect Attorney General Barr so I accepted what he said.”

That's all The Donald needed to flag down a bus. “Ivanka Trump [How many Ivankas does the man know?] was not involved in looking at, or studying, election results. She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General (he sucked!).”

You’ve got to give The Donald kudos for the comment. In one shot, he suggested his former favorite child was clueless and his former attorney general sucked. Not too shabby.

ANYWAY…

Many, if not most, sociopaths are extremely charming when they want to be...or have to be. Whether it's murdering women (Ted Bundy), selling time shares or asking supporters for donations to the Trump legal defense fund, sociopaths have an innate ability to tell listeners exactly what they want to hear.

As a psychopath, Hitler demanded his followers go where he wanted to go.

Trump, the sociopath, went where his listeners wanted to go. Of course, there were places of agreement like building a wall to stop immigration or instituting a Muslim ban. However, if Mr. Trump’s audience was against abortion, he was anti-abortion (after years of not caring one way or the other). If they were fundamentalist believers of “The Word”, he would be a fundamentalist believer of “The Word” despite not quite knowing which end of the Bible was up.

Work habits

Adolf Hitler

Early on, as a political rabblerouser, Hitler worked tirelessly hour after hour in front of a mirror perfecting his gestures and facial expressions to ensure his speeches would have audiences out of their seats and "heiling" at a fever pitch.

Throughout World War II, he continued working hard. Said to have a photographic memory, Hitler, took an active interest in every phase of the German military machine — often to its detriment.

Donald Trump

His work habits could be summed up in two words: Golf. Twitter.

Food

Adolf Hitler

A vegetarian, Hitler had a major sweet tooth. To keep from gaining weight after indulging in his favorite deserts, he took purgatives (more on this later).

Donald Trump

Big Mac, fries and a Coke.

Drugs

Adolf Hitler

Der Fuhrer was a walking pharmacy. Supplied by one Dr. Morell, over the last six years of his life, Hitler received a cornucopia of drugs for everything from indigestion and insomnia to pain, lethargy and depression.

One drug, Mutaflor, replaced bad bacteria in the gut with good bacteria derived from the fecal matter of a Bulgarian peasant. Why a Bulgarian peasant and not an Albanian or Moravian? Sadly, that shall remain one of history’s unsolved mysteries.

Anti-gas pills Hitler took for his meteorism, a wonderfully descriptive term for chronic flatulence, contained atropine, a hallucinogen, and strychnine. Unfortunately, the doses were not sufficient to kill.

As many as twenty times a day, Dr. Morell injected the fuhrer with everything from cocaine to Oxycodone to Pervitin, a methamphetamine. It got to the point where the good doctor was having a hellacious time finding a usable vein.

By the time the War was drawing to a close, Hitler was left with compulsive habits including biting the skin on his fingers and scratching the back of his neck till it became infected. More and more he found it difficult to walk; hands shaking uncontrollably, and mind going from rage to depression to rage.

Donald Trump

Trump doesn’t smoke, drink or do drugs.

Murder

Adolf Hitler

Hitler was, of course, directly responsible for the mass murder of millions upon millions of innocent men, women and children.

Donald Trump

I could find no instance of Donald Trump having murdered anyone. The nearest thing to murder was when he posited the opinion that it might indeed be a wonderful idea if his VP were hanged.

Why Jan. 6 insurrectionists sent a letter to the Folger Shakespeare Library

While insurrectionists were plotting to storm the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, they took time to write and send a letter to an institution two blocks from their target: the Folger Shakespeare Library, the world’s largest collection of material related to the English playwright.

“We will be blocking access to your building … to prevent our persons of grievance from using you as a loophole,” read the insurrectionists’ letter, which circulated on a pro-Trump message board called TheDonald before the insurrection and was published this month in the Folger’s online archive.

"[we] are only involving you by happenstance."

After news broke that the FBI searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida on Monday, his supporters openly called for an armed violent response, and ultimately, civil war.

“Civil War 2.0 just kicked off,” one user wrote on Twitter, with another adding, “One step closer to a kinetic civil war.” Others said they were ready to take part: “I already bought my ammo.”

MAGA, QAnon, and far-right message boards and Telegram channels lit up Monday night with calls for a violent response to what some extremists see as a political attack directed by the Biden administration.

“This is how you light the match to a civil war,” one user on Twitter wrote in response to the news.

Similar rhetoric was shared in far-right channels on Telegram. “Civil war coming to America, there won't be any more elections,” one member said.

“A total war on dissidents is about to unfold. Not behind closed doors but blatantly, in public,” another member wrote in a different far-right channel. “Attacks on Alex Jones, Trump, and Patriot Day defendants are only setting the precedent for the future of us as the only opposition to the Deep State.”

In QAnon channels, there were some conflicting responses, with some conspiracy believers calling for armed responses and others suggesting the FBI was all part of the plan. A prominent QAnon influencer known as QAnon John is urging followers not to call for civil war, as this, the influencer said, is what the deep state wants them to do.

Within hours of the FBI search, however, the term “civil war” was already trending on Twitter, and hundreds of Trump supporters had already gathered outside Mar-a-Lago. Some claimed on Telegram channels that they were there to protect the former President.

In response to one meme suggesting gun sales and boating accidents would soar in the wake of the FBI raid, one member of TheDonald, a pro-Trump message board, wrote: “If it's time to hide them, it's time to use them.”

The top comment on the main thread about the raid on Tuesday morning was: “Lock and load.” In the same thread, another user wrote: “It certainly feels like they’re treating it as a hot civil war. When this is all said and done, the people responsible for these tyrannical actions need to be hanged.”

Another person responded to the same meme by saying that “people need to start learning about 3d printing,” referring to the rise of virtually untraceable “ghost guns.”

These same forums also hosted similarly violent rhetoric in the buildup to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Trump’s own comments confirming the FBI search used the former President’s typically inflammatory language to describe a lawful search of his home.

“My beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach Florida is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump wrote. “They even broke into my safe. What is the difference between this and Watergate, where operatives broke into the Democrat (sic) National Committee?”

Statements from mainstream Republican leaders and lawmakers, as well as right-wing media personalities, also pushed some of this rhetoric.

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said, without evidence, that the FBI action was an indication that the agency had been “weaponized” by the Democrats and President Joe Biden to persecute Trump.

“This is the rogue behavior of communist countries, NOT the United States of America!!!,” Greene tweeted. “These are the type of things that happen in countries during civil war.”

The Republican leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, issued a warning to Attorney General Merrick Garland over the FBI’s actions.

However, the FBI’s search could only have been conducted with a warrant signed by a federal judge and with the backing of senior leadership at the Department of Justice. The bar would likely be set very high for probable cause in order to search the home of a former President.

“I think there is going to be some more action you are going to see out on the streets from the base after they see this break tonight,” commentator Jesse Watters said on Fox News. “They've had it with what this corrupt government and what the FBI has done."

Stephen Miller, a former senior adviser to Trump, appeared on Fox News calling the FBI’s action an “abomination.”

"We are truly living in a situation where the FBI has become a praetorian guard from Rome where they take it unto themselves to decide who wields power in this country,” Miller added.

Far-right troll Jack Posobiec unleashed an unhinged torrent of tweets in the wake of the FBI search, writing, among other things, that the “federal security state has declared war on Donald J Trump and his supporters.”

“Are you ready?” Posobiec asked his 1.8 million followers.

Right-wing media personality Candace Owens called for the FBI to be “legally and formally dissolved,” while Kari Lake, a Trump-endorsed candidate for Governor in Arizona, called Monday “one of the darkest days in American history,” later adding “not a single one of us is safe.”

Fox News host and podcaster Dan Bongino called the FBI’s action “some third-world bullshit,” a phrase repeated by Trump’s son Eric, Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington, and the official Twitter account of the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee.

While some attempted to couch their calls to arms in codewords, others were more open about their desire for violence. “Time to take the gloves off,” far-right activist and GOP congressional candidate Laura Loomer wrote on her Telegram channel. “It’s been time. If you’re a freedom-loving American, you must remove the words decorum and civility from your vocabulary. This is a WAR! And it’s time to obliterate these communists.”
