no real cheese will ever live up to the phantom taste i imagined the cartoon cheese from tom and jerry cartoons i watched as a kid tasted like.
this is the pinnacle of the cheese-based foodgroups. i think it was less the visual appeal (almost none, it looks like a dried sponge half the time) and more the fervent desperation with which the mouse pursued it. the permeating lust for this cheese.
the fanatical daydreaming was so evocative that my brain and tongue made up a flavour that will never exist and i am doomed to spend my life unfulfilled

working on the next post was frustrating me so i made more of coco's family to relax!! let's hear it for beautiful brown eyes
nico (33), nicole "coco" (23), monica (22), jasmine "jazzy" (18), amir (12), xena (1)
their family situation is very complicated but if you're interested:
nico was an oopsie when their mom was young. she got married and then quickly divorced nico's dad. coco looks up to her brother a lot. he's the kindest, most generous person you'll ever meet (gives you the shirt off his back kinda guy) and he loves coco so much, but he has an intellectual disability as a result of a complicated birth and he was never given the support he needed. he's had problems with substance abuse for a long time. growing up, coco always wanted to be around him, and unfortunately he didn't always do a good job of sheltering her. even though she doesn't blame him, he'll always blame himself for exposing her to his lifestyle.
when coco's mom met her dad, she didn't want to ruin things by getting married again. nevertheless, coco was planned. she was supposed to be the last baby (hence the cute matching names: nico and nicole).
monica came along so quick after coco that they were basically raised like twins, but coco was still very much a protective big sister to her because monica started losing her eyesight as a toddler. by middle school, she could only see light & shapes. she continued to go to the same school as coco, but she didn't get much in the way of accommodations, so coco was the one who helped her the most. she made sure monica never fell behind or felt different – she learned from nico that if she didn't support monica, no one would. they're the only 2 that share both the same birth parents, though monica always got along better with their dad than coco. oh also she's the sister that used to listen to danny's music fjkjsds
jazzy was from their mom's 2nd marriage which didn't last long. she spent summers with her dad in indiana, which made coco so jealous until she actually visited indiana herself lol. she goes to college at purdue so coco doesn't see her much. it also makes coco feel weird that they both started college at the same time though coco is 5 years older. she wants to be the big sister giving advice and helping jazzy through college, but jazzy has her life together more at 18 than coco ever has. she won't admit it, but she does judge coco for her life choices, and she has a lot of valid reasons for doing so. sadly jazzy had a front row seat to some of coco's worst moments. neither of them really know how to move on from that.
their mom is still married to amir's dad. he's the only kid still living with their mom. coco actually spends quite a lot of time with amir; he likes to stay at her apartment when he needs a break from his step siblings (who coco barely knows, since they moved in after she moved out). they also like to get out of the city and go exploring together / hiking
xena is....... complicated. she's the only one here that doesn't have the same birth mom and that's really all i can say. (btw i'm not bringing back the 2018 extreme red blush, the poor thing just has eczema)

Will: I feel like I would be remiss if I did not, for the Tumblr discourse out there. So Hermie is Scam Likely’s son and I guess Taylor’s uncle now??
Anthony: Yeah
Matt: Was it a surprise in the moment or did you know that?
Anthony: I can’t remember

yeah! maybe you could've tried to visit him at the hospital while he was with his dying grandmother and lent a shoulder! but I suppose that listening to Aubrey rant and having arguments about expired soda was more of a priority
>>"Maybe he just needs some time alone..."
>>"Could you guys try to talk to him?"
peak caretaker, truly
"We're all here to see you!' have you considered that he may not want to see you? y'know, because he's having a rough patch right now? oh sorry, I forgot that the narrative only cares about Basil when it needs to use him as a punching bag
"Maybe he just needs some time to himself..." then why did you let them into the house in the first place
love the implication that Kel somehow didn't know friends should be there for each other until these past few days. that'd explain why he started giving a shit about Sunny only after he learned that the latter is about to move town lmao
given the characters' behavior towards each other during the game's events, this supposed showcase of True Friendship™ is so shallow it becomes disgusting. I'm impressed!
"we just want to know that you're okay 🥺" you bullied him for four years because you couldn't be arsed to clear up a misunderstanding and then nearly killed him. what the fuck do you think?
"will you please say something? 🥺" he doesn't need to say anything to you
oh, so you, who previously admitted to barely knowing the kid you've been taking care of despite being his caretaker for two years by that point, suddenly know he's going to appreciate his friends crashing on his couch? while he's grieving?
Fuck you and fuck this game's writing.

Having some “Ryan & Shane aren’t really friends” demons which I know is stupid and parasocial and like not born out by the literally all the evidence that we have but I can’t help it sometimes. 😭 I just rly love their dynamic on screen, I hope it’s similar off screen.
oh those ARE demons!! they are Best Friends!!! a huge reason their onscreen dynamic is the way it is is Because they're Like That offscreen. you can fake a lot while making content but the kind of easy chemistry they have and the way they joke with and poke fun at and just talk to each other... you Cannot fake that. AND what we see is most often a Toned Down version of who they are off camera so i have to believe the bestieism is even more than we know.
also the first mystery files debrief when ryan legitimately could not think of Anyone he would be able trust on a bank heist Except For Shane. like yeah that was a jokey scenario but it means something that he believes shane is the Only person he can trust would not turn on him in a high stakes situation. like... ryan threatened to kill shane earlier in the episode he Did Not need to turn around and be that sincere. that's real.
ALSO also reading the interviews they did for ghost files and mystery files and seeing them in other people's content (shoutout my fav trypod episode) it's soo clear in the way they speak to and about each other that they really do love each other and working with each other and they make each other better creators.
and! shane was in ryan's wedding!!! his wedding that yes was published in a magazine but was not publicized in a way that matters for their brand. if they were just trying to push some fake friendship image they Absolutely would have taken advantage of that.

okay. i need to rewatch the episode probably but i think my current feeling is that i like most of it a lot (rome, ken, the siblings not getting ceo, etc), think the tom ceo makes sense from a logical/character perspective but not sure how i feel about it from a broader more thematic lens (altho i'm leaning towards fine with it), and am very mixed on shiv's ending because i think it's well-conceived and meaningful from a broader thematic lens (shiv becomes her mother, the cycle always repeats, etc) but doesn't quite make sense to me from a logical/character one -- it could've worked, it could've worked brilliantly, but it was far too rushed and forced. it makes sense as an ending for shiv, but not her next step. i'm largely talking about her decision to return to tom, not her decision to vote against kendall (which i think should've been executed better and given more space but can understand given her character, mostly). i'm fine with it as an ending for shiv, but what i'm struggling to stomach is the way it played out -- it didn't feel like a choice the shiv we know would've made. it's an ending that makes sense thematically and for her character arc, but not a decision that makes sense for her character at present. that's kinda where i'm at right now
