4. What is/are your favorite trope(s)?

Oh gee. I have a quite a few tropes that I really enjoy when it comes to ships. I guess they can all be considered more or less “popular” ones in general too, but hey. It’s good shit, so it deserves to be popular, if you ask me.

I’ll list a few and spend just two words on each of them, because otherwise this answer would turn in a novel. Alphabetically:

Enemies to Lovers: This sums up a lot of my ships, tbh. I thrive in seeing the contrast between two characters and all the feelings and situations that can come into play starting from that. There’s a lot of potential for angst, character study and introspection, relationship development, and it leaves that bittersweet taste on your tongue that it’s just my jam. I could put the Hero/Villain ship trope in this category too.

Fake Dating (that then turns into the real shit): I always find stories that involve fake relationships funny, especially if then an unexpected spark happens and makes it all awkward. This is one of my go-to when I’m looking for some humour.

First Kiss: At the cost of sounding cheesy as hell, I’m weak for first kiss stories. Aside from the variety of situations that can contain this, I enjoy it because it’s usually the culmination of something bigger that unravelled before, so I particularly like the build-up to the kiss, more than the kiss scene in itself. The Love Confession trope fits right next to this one.

Mutual Pining: This is one of the things I’ll never get tired of. I like seeing a relationship being built way more than an established one and the pining is an essential phase in my eyes xD

Power Couple: At times I just love seeing two characters that are badass on their own and even more badass together, you know?

Rivals Team-up: This one has a similar appeal to the “Enemies to Lovers” one for me, but with a more humourous twist.

Sex Pollen, Aliens (or who else for them) Made Them Do It, Fuck or Die & Co: I’m not huge on smut, but these are some situations that can turn really interesting when handled right. There can be a lot of really good shit built around the sex scene itself, both concerning what leads to it and, even more, the aftermath (which is often left untold and that’s a real pity because it’s a total waste of potential!). Of course, the scene in itself can offer you a lot in terms of feeling and introspection too, and that’s something I like to explore.

Soulmates AU: There are just so many cool ideas in this category! Some are funny, some are heartbreaking and there’s every shade in-between. I find this trope very inspiring in its complexity and in all the openings it offers. It’s a multiverse in itself.

The Matchmaker: Again, the humour of this idea really gets me. Moreover, I love the idea of having one character who’s forced to deal with all the others’ crap, as some sort of unofficial therapist. Idk, maybe it’s because, in way, we shippers are like the Matchmaker in a story, but I always connect with whoever is in this role in a story xD

Specialy mention: Found Family. It’s not a strictly shippy trope, but it’s perhaps my number one fave.

5. What is/are your least favorite trope(s)?

The list here it’s shorter bcause I have quite a few tropes I enjoy, a lot that I can take or leave and few I don’t like.

Most of the tropes I don’t like are “daily life AUs” (like Coffee Shop AU, High School AU, etc). I guess I’ve read enough of them that they have stopped being original, so I get bored pretty quickly with them (of course there are exceptions, but they are rare).

The whole “Girls like Bad Boys (or vice versa or with genders mixed up)” thing is also something I’m not too fond off. It’s become too clichéd and the characters end up being so stereotyped that it makes me wanna roll my eyes.

I’m a bit iffy about the whole Major Character Death trope. As much as I love angst, I want my fiction to have a happy ending or at least a hopeful one. We already get enough bad ending IRL, so I want my fantasy worlds to skip them, when possible. It’s the same reason why I’m not extremely fond of Unrequited Love (between the characters that make up the ship, I mean) that never becomes requited.

Also, I never understood what is the big deal about heigh difference. It’s not that I dislike it or anything, but...I just don’t get it??

Alright guys, this is my favorite fic recommendation list I’ve done thus far. Lets buckle up for my absolute favorite AU. This one is LONG. But I just couldn’t stop I love this AU too much to not go on and on lol. These fics are amazing, I tried to keep it to one fic an author, but I stated if they had more! Also the descriptions may be a little smaller, because there were so many I didn’t want this to be way too long :) And shoutout to @bucky-plums-barnes for all of their amazing biker stuff too!

Swallow by @all1e23

This fic here, is absolutely beautiful. The way Allie writes is so unique, and reading their work is always a wonderful experience. There is never an emotion that goes unfelt by the reader. This fic is a story that perfectly embodies the way love makes you act. Love isnt perfect, its heartbreak, and destruction, and pain, yet above all else its beautiful. Don’t go in expecting a fairy tail, go in expecting tangible realistic love between two broken people. Also, Allie has an amazing story called Home, that I also highly recommend.

New Girl by @omnomsauruswrites

This was the first biker Bucky story I ever read, and I think thats why its one of my favorite AUs, because I got sun a good start with this fic. I love this story. We’ve got enemies to lovers, biker bucky, and a killer plot twist that I did NOT see coming. All in all it was such a lovely story. Its shorter chapters, but every word is purposeful to making you fall in love with both characters. In the end you get a happily ever after, and you couldn’t ask for more!

Howling’ For You by @invisibleanonymousmonsters

Ohh my love, my whole heart is in this fic. This is such an amazing story. I sometimes don’t love the good girl bad boy trope because its overdone and excessive, but THIS. This is so well done, is he protective? Yes. But does he also know she is perfectly capable of being an independent human? Yes! There were so many twists and turns and absolutely heartwarming love between the two characters. I also love how in character every person is. Amazingly well done, would read it every day if I could.

Wild Horses by @whitewolfbumble

Bad Boy exterior SOFT boy middle?? Yes! This fic is so adorable. It really shows the build of the relationship, and thats always my favorite part. It was such a true to life story in my opinion, the reader started of lost and finding her place in the world, then this lovely group of people just accepted her and helped her through her tough times. It was such a heartwarming read, with angst that just solidified the connection between the characters. And the friendship they all had was so refreshing compared to some stories where people are just rude for no reason. Its a short yet sweet read, and I 100% recommend it.

Long Way Round by @star-spangled-man-with-a-plan

This was a hard one to choose, so many amazing biker stories they’ve written! But im a sucker for series’ and this series is so awesome. I LOVE Plus size reader stories, hell yeah representation! Now this story is a TRIP! Its like a really good episode of criminal minds. There are so many details jam packed into this that I couldn’t put my phone down! Shady gangs, corrupt leaders, and a smart as hell reader. This was just such a good read, not even for Bucky, but just for the incredible story telling. Sweet protective Bucky is always a plus though. Also, check out their other amazing stories like The Bounty, and Red Star Rebel, they’re just as amazing as this one!

A Real Sweet Guy by @mycupoffanfiction

I remember when I first read this it was only a oneshot and I was super sad, but then BOOM it turned into an adorable series. Its not done yet but its so good so far! Its the epitome of soft baby boy Bucky under a hard tough guy exterior. The way Ellie portrays relationships between characters is so cute, you feel the love between everyone whether that be platonic or romantic. Its through details that she sets up this lovely little universe that you just get sucked into, and honesty im fine staying there lol. I cant wait to read more of this one!

Okay for this, just a warning, my device has a little trouble with the master list so it may be easier to use the desktop version :) Okay about the story, holy hell this one is cute. Bucky is HOPELESS, and just wants a date, Peter has the worst timing, and Steve just is along for the ride. I love mutual pining fics where one is completely oblivious to the other trying to ask them out, and the other is just trying their best lol. I felt like banging my head on the table very time Bucky got too nervous, but alas! It worked in the end, adorable little fic. They also have a cute set of biker Bucky stories called Fancy hair that I love so much.

Born To Run by @softbiker

Slow burn baby! This one is still in progress but hot damn is it good so far. I love this trope of the girl not really wanting anything to do with the guy but the guy and his friends being like well thats too dang bad! I love the idea that family isn’t what you’re born with, its who you love and who loves you. This fic is absolutely lovely so far, and though obviously I don’t know much about where its going to end up, where it is right now is good enough for me to put it on this list!

Notorious by @interestedbystanderwrites

I know I’ve been going on and on about how much I love Soft sweet Bucky. But I also LOVE badass tough guy who is very scary Bucky. And oh baby is this the perfect fic for that! Bucky is a felon, and a hot one at that. And what he sets his eyes on, he gets. That thing just so happens to be the all to trusting reader. This is such a thrilling fic. It reminds me of baby driver for some reason. I love seeing the cracks that show a bit of sweet Bucky. It leaves me waiting for more! He’s her addiction, she cant help but to stick around. Such a good fic, I cannot wait for more of it!

Deny Me by @brooklynsboys

This fic made my heart turn to mush. Its about an insecure reader, and a tough buck who has the softest heart ever but doesn’t know how to show it sometimes. My absolute favorite bucky is the bucky that only his girl gets to see, and this is the perfect representation of that. The way they write is spectacular. They get you to completely understand the feelings the character has without literally just writing it. You are right there in the world with them, feeling what they feel. And who doesn’t love a perfect happy ending?

Whatever it Takes by @sgtjbuccky

Oh Buddy, lets talk about how much I LOVE this fic. Bucky is the biggest charming jerk there is, but you love to hate him. I was smiling the whole way through this read. Literally my face hurt by the end I was smiling so big! It was cute, and I felt every frustration, yet every single bit of the tension they had. The reader is a smart little cookie, and bucky is too cocky for his own good. If you want a cute extremely well written fic, this is the place to go!

Tender Surprises by @empyreanwritings

Jesus, talk about tooth rotting tear jerking fluff. You know those videos where the child asks a pseudo-parent to adopt them? Yeah, thats this perfectly embodied in a fic. I cried, read it again, then cried some more. I love how it mixes tough biker Bucky with soft non-toxic masculinity father. We need more of that. It was so perfectly written, the flashbacks are perfectly placed, and give another layer of depth into this familial relationship they have. I love Dad!Bucky and Biker!Bucky, so to have them wrapped into on is perfect.

Theres something about the way Cait writes thats just poetic. She could write about my morning routine and it would be art. This fic is no exception. Its the cutest little thing, two people in a diner, brought together by chance and a little bit of courage. Its an adorable little story about trust, and taking a chance. Bucky is supportive and encouraging, reader is a little scared. But it all works out in the end, because everything is okay when you’re with the one you love. 10/10.

You Give Love, A Bad Name by @em-imagines

I love stories like these. The cocky boy chasing the uninterested girl, yet there is obviously some tension there? Yeah, thats my cuppa tea right there. Also, its a high school AU! Love those. This story is definitely a mixed bag of feels. You get the super cute chase, but you also see a raw side of Bucky, and his unfortunate home life. As sad as it is, I think its a good representation of true life, where there is always something that you don’t know about someone. Theres vulnerability to this, and that makes it such a lovely story to read. Incredibly well done.

What’s On The Inside by @revengingbarnes

Is this technically a mechanic and not Biker AU? Yes. But he rides a motorcycle and its too good to not mention lol. This fic is ADORABLE. Mutual Pining! Shy flirting! Instant Connection! Bike Riding! Its incredibly well done too. Its just one of those feel good stories, it makes you smile, and want to get to know more about the characters. Soft Beefy bucky is my favorite boy, and this is SUCH a good representation of him. My heart was mush the whole way through. 10/10 would read again (for the 12739th time)

Forbidden lovers y’all, thats it. Like Romeo and Juliet except Bucky is a dummy who doesn’t know the right thing to do, and the reader just wanted truth. Its a short but sweet little fic, theres so much emotion packed into the story too! You feel the pain the reader and bucky hold at different times, but you also feel the longing as well. Its such a cute relationship they have, and I’m always a sucker for bucky putting the reader first!

Over The River and Through the Woods by @geminimoonbeamx

Sure its only September, but that doesn’t mean its not time for a killer Christmas Fic! Also another plus size reader hell yeah! I LOVE the domesticity from this! Its like Love Actually, a bunch of absolutely crazy people coming together, and the reader and Bucky are just trying to get out alive lol. It also really sweet in dressing what its like to be without those you love on holidays. A perfect balance of sweet and serious. Its so cute, and so funny. I have a non conventional family so I can relate to this so much. The love between the two is so palpable and so heartwarming.

Home Sweet Home by @sweet-barnes

Their name says it all. This story is just one big ball of sweet biker Bucky and his sleepy gal. I am always looking for those small tooth rotting fics just to boost my feelings for a day and oh man is this is. Bucky is the biggest cuddle bug in history and not even his scary biker persona can change my mind. This fic made me smile so hard, and then want to take a nice nap with the teddy bear Bucky Barnes himself.

Okay I love this one because I’ve not read another like it. I love how she portrays Bucky as having been in an accident and having memory problems because of it. Its so real and sad when you think about it because its entirely realistic and truthful to life. And boy is Bucky not just the sweetest thing ever. He wants to remember his girl no matter what, so he makes it permanent. Their relationship is so cute. I just love soft Bucky with my whole heart. Amazing story, so well done!

The Mailbox by @kaunis-sielu

This one was one of the first one shots I read of biker bucky and I still love it so much! Bucky is such a softie, running into mailboxes fixing them, even having Steve paint it? Okay big bad biker guy, you sure are scary… Also, protective bucky yeah baby!! Hell do what he needs to to keep the reader safe, and oh baby if that isn’t like my favorite trope ever. Also the little sassy elements are hilarious. I also recommend their other biker fics such as Stitches, or Just Married. :)

1,316,777 (since December 2011). Haha. Ha. To be fair, probably only a million of those words are mine because @w0rdinista and I wrote From the Ashes together.

How often do you write?

Um. Look, when I was extremely underemployed, I was also extremely prolific. There have also been periods where I only wrote fic and all my original stuff sat unloved. The last couple of years have been ... challenging. Partly because I’ve been navigating working a lot more, partly because of health (mental and physical), and partly because I’ve devoted a lot more attention to original fic. Which is a long way of saying: not as much as I’d like to be. I am trying to write at least a little bit most days, now. It’s very slow-going. Like learning to walk again after a serious accident slow-going.

If you count any writing and not just fiction writing, though, I write pretty much every day.

Do you have a routine for writing?

I’m really fortunate that I have a home office. I mean, I use it for paid work, but it also means I have a room of my own. Usually, I make myself a tea/coffee (or pour myself some water), turn on music if it’s not on already, and boot up my Mac. I use my PC for work and work-related writing, so using a different computer tends to tell my brain to leave work behind. (Plus, Scrivener is way prettier on the Mac.)

I use internet blockers if willpower’s not cutting it. I also use pomodoros or sprints to push myself past overthinking and hypercritical inner critic nonsense, if I need to.

Sometimes, when home isn’t cutting it, I write in cafes. With earphones in. And usually a snack.

What are your favorite kinks/tropes/pairings?

Kinks: Basically, if the sex doesn’t need to be there for narrative purposes, I’m extremely meh about it. PWP is not my thing. That said, I have a real soft spot for tenderness, comfort, vulnerability, goodnatured competitiveness, very light use of restraints/blindfolds (never as punishment; pain does nothing for me, even if it’s consensual; it’s more about trust), hands, intimacy, readiness/foreplay/consent. Basically, I’m all about sex-as-emotional-connection; *shrug* my demisexual is showing.

Tropes: Hurt/comfort, friends-to-lovers (sometimes enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, but the enemyness can’t be things I consider unforgivable), fake/pretend relationships, slow burn, humor as a mask, angst (with at least a bit of hope, even if it’s bittersweet), mutual pining, fluff, domesticity-depending-on-the-characters, kidfic very much depending on the kids and the characters. There are probably more that aren’t coming to mind at the moment.

Pairings: Chloe Decker/Lucifer Morningstar, Femshep/Garrus, F!Hawke/Sebastian, F!Hawke/Fenris, and Cullen/Trevelyan (Rose) are the ones I write. For reading, I also love Phryne/Jack, Wimsey/Vane, and several other BioWare ships (especially when written by people I admire) though I don’t have time to read much right now! I like my pairings to include at least one f!character, so m/m has never been my personal jam. I do like a few f/f pairings though!

Do you have a favorite fic of yours?

And choose between all my children? From the Ashes, because it cemented so much of my friendship with @w0rdinista . Something Like Home, because it was important to me for a lot of reasons. Any Four Walls, because Rose and Tyrra? You, because it was the catalyst for jumping into Lucifer fandom (even if it didn’t get finished until a year later).

To be honest, a lot of my other personal favorites are ones with fewer kudos, but whatcha gonna do?

Your fic with the most kudos?

A Handful of Dust, with 1241 (but, shockingly, Any Four Walls has almost caught up to it at 1214! I still can’t believe that. It’s kidfic. It was gonna be a one-shot prompt fill! ...then it grew plot against my will.)

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

That some of it is un-fucking-finished? See above. I’m so sorry, AHOD and AFW; you deserve better, and someday I will finish you both. I hate unfinished things. I hate that I have unfinished things.

Also, I don’t like when I catch myself reusing phrases/gestures/etc.

Now something you do like?

I’ll be real with you here. If I didn’t like my writing, I wouldn’t post it. You’d never see a word. If I don’t love one of my own stories, I don’t share it. I am my own biggest fan. I know in ways other people can’t how incredibly hard I work on everything I do, and how incredibly important it is to me to do the very best I can. I know how often I’ll watch a clip or how much research I’ll do just to nail a voice or get a tiny fact right. I have been writing a long, long, long time. I’m still changing and growing and learning---and it’s awesome. So, even when I look back on something very old? I still smile and know that version of Tara was doing her very best, too, even if Current Tara would change things.

Also, I think I write pretty great dialogue and excellent character psychology/motivations.

Amnesia

It really depends on the fic. I usually fluctuate between, ‘eh’ and ‘this could be interesting’. As a concept, I like the whole idea of falling in love again. Getting to know the person. Maybe learning new things about the person and themselves.

Honestly, I like this better in reincarnated AUs.

Enemies to Lovers

I prefer the ‘to friends’ step. However, I can be into it. However, I am only into it in a very certain sense. SwanQueen (yes). Reylo (fuck no). I’m not interested in (most) power imbalances – especially if it involves one character having been emotionally, physically/sexually violent to another. Especially, especially if the other character was not able to defend themselves against it. I’m not interested in one character doing the emotional labor (for another). Particularly not if it is a woman for a man, a moc for a white woman, a woc for a white woman.

Historical AU

I go back and forth between ‘this is great and i love it’ and ‘THISI S THE MSOT AMAZING THING INVE EVER READWERFTREWQ’. It really depends on the fic, the era, and the fandom. However, I am generally for historical aus (doubly so if it is reincarnation). I sadly haven’t read too many outside of concepts.

Fake Married

It is my favorite when it is Hijinks. Sam and Steve for a mission. The Leverage OT3 having to con some suburban people. Fake dating is more of my jam but I am so here for fake marriage. ESPECIALLY if it is like mutual pining. ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY where it’s like hey I didn’t realize I had pining feelings but wow close proximity is giving me AWARENESS NOW BIH.

Secret Relationship

HIJINKS! Hijinks need to be involved. If it’s just a plain, oh you didn’t tell your fam about me. I’m usually eh. Unless there is a good angsty reason and they delve into it. But like parents trying to set you up with someone else and it’s like!!! And that sweet twisty feeling of seeing them havingf un with someone else HAHA.

1) What’s your favorite planet? Probably Saturn?? It’s got so many moons and a lot of lovely rings and it’s just Neat.

2) What’s your favorite book series? I Really Love Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy? But like. That’s just where my head is at right now. I have Too Many favorite books. (I also Love the discworld books, even though I haven’t read too many.)

3) Favorite trope? Oooooh romance-wise it’s gotta be mutual pining where it’s like both parties have strong feelings and are determined not to show it either because they assume the other person doesn’t feel the same or for some reason they can’t be together. And just in General I’m always a sucker for the Soft Hero trope. (gimme more soft heroessss).

4) Did you have a childhood pet? A few! There was a cat named George (technically my older sister’s but I adopted him as my own because she was not nice to him) who was a big loud Siamese who didn’t like Anyone. And then when I got older I had two gerbils that were the sweetest little creatures and I miss them.

5) What’s the first thing that pops into your head that you think is overrated? Unnecessary/forced heterosexual romance subplots. And being Mean for no reason.

6) What do you want most in a relationship? Shit son idk the concept of??? liking someone?? AND them liking me back??? AND THEN both of us voicing this and actually starting a relationship??? Foreign. So like. Checkbox #1 is: they like like me. And I guess what I’d want IN a relationship would be like. That comfortable vibe of being together and not having to do anything necessarily.

7) Have you ever had a supernatural experience? Nothing that can be said for sure??? And TBQH I don’t wanna think too hard abt it because it’s late at night and I have to be able to Sleep.

8) What part of history were you weirdly into as a kid? OK SO... I basically fucking lived in a library and read as many books as I wanted for YEARS when I was a kid but?? Mostly I focused on Animals. That was my JAM. So there wasn’t really a time period?? I mean... I was obsessed with Pirates for a short time, but that was much more a subject matter than a specific Time Period...

9) Do you believe in aliens? Abso-fucking-lutely, there isn’t any doubt which is simultaneously great and also terrifying.

10) Do you have any funeral preferences in mind? Have all the funeral attendees draw straws. The one with the short straw has to throw my body in the ground by themself. Play “My Heart Will Go On” but only the shitty recorder/melodica version. The person throwing me in the grave yells “YEET” and then everyone goes home. ((Not really but like. My actual funeral preferences are like. Cremated and launched into space or something. Idk and I don’t think I’ll really care once I’m?? Dead?))

11) Are you a patient person? UM... Yes? yes... um. Maybe. I think it depends on the setting but generally??? P patient. Maybe...
