#time to do some corviknight research
Note
there are only so many pokemon i can assume will do well. and the list isn't very long because you are good at covering your bases. there is a substancially longer list of pokemon that could take you in a pair or as an equal group but frankly that sounds like too much guessing and research to devote to any single person
and also i forgot allister specialized in ghosts and lived on the edge of fairy land that's on me for forgetting that you've likely dealt with a gengar many times before
anyways i think that'll mark the end of me throwing stuff at you, unfortunately, since gengar was honestly the last above average idea i had that wasn't something everybody else has considered(like corviknight or eviolite duraludon). a disappointing note, but oh well.
-volcarona anon
Yes, well, that can hardly be helped. You were pitting individual pokemon against a team of five, led by a highly skilled trainer at that. The chances of one of them incapacitating my entire team were awfully slim.
I'm sure that my publishing your little evaluations will no doubt lead someone to approach my gym with some combination of your choices and give me quite the troublesome challenge. If that doesn't give you some semblance of satisfaction, I don't know why you attempted this in the first place.

Pokemon AU, part 2
Tumblr media
Finally finished this thing, it's the Thea Sisters in the Pokemon AU :D
Headcanons:
Nicky has the most experience in Pokemon battles, since Australia's trainer community is very fierce in competitions. Her newest addition to her team, Sizzlipede, is accompanying her to Mouseford solo, so they can have some one-on-one training together.
You see here that Colette owns a Corviknight. Yes, Colette does in fact own a Corviknight. If you wanna know how that happened, I might explain it in a post, or maybe even a one-shot on AO3 :3c She loves her giant corvid very much and will protect him with her life. E-even though more often than not it's Corviknight saving/helping her. She also has an Eevee, and it and Corviknight get along very well. Colette's more of a Pokemon Contest person than a Pokemon battle person.
Paulina is planning on becoming a Pokemon researcher, and even though she's still early on in the process, she's already doing volunteer work in efforts to help Pokemon. Her main partner is Minun. Its partner Plusle is with Maria all the way in Peru. Every time Paulina and Maria videochat, Plusle and Minun jump at the opportunity to say hi to each other and talk to each other for a bit. Even though Minun is the Pokemon most often out of its Pokeball, there may or may not be more Pokemon Paulina has that she's fostering :]
Pam has a Heatmor. Yes, Heatmor are canonically 4'7" (139.7cm) in height. The two have a very silly dynamic, in that Pam's Heatmor helps her with anything heat-related. Need to light up a wood oven? Heatmor's on the case. Need to fix a warp in an engine pipe? Heatmor's got you covered. Need to solder something? Heatmor's gotchu bro. Need to sear the top of a pizza even though it could very easily be done in the oven? Yes, Heatmor can do that too. It takes pride in its helpfulness, and Pam is happy that this makes it happy.
Violet owns an Altaria that she's had since childhood. The Alolan Vulpix was a gift from her parents after they went on a trip and found a little white Vulpix that they thought Violet would like. It took a while for Altaria and Vulpix to get along as well as they do now. If you're looking for Vi and can't find her, look in the last place you saw her Altaria. High chances are, she's either with it, or they're straight-up taking a nap together. I might elaborate on how she met Altaria because it's very fluffy and warm and fuzzy. Like Altaria's wings--

Hi, Professor!
I'm studying to get a degree in geology with an interest in paleontology and I was wondering what Pokemon would be best for keeping me company while traveling out in the field or staying up late in the lab doing bone prep? I hope to eventually have a small team, but right now I'm looking for maybe 2 partners to share my travels and studies with!
Thank you!
Hello!
That is so exciting, paleontologists tend to have the coolest stories and are some of my favorite scientists to work with. I've got a list with a breakdown of which Pokémon species may be able to help with the diverse tasks and challenges you may come up against in your journey.
First, most paleontological researchers that have Pokémon tend to opt for partners that can help with excavations; species that are capable of digging quickly without causing tunnel collapse or potentially damaging fragile objects underground. Sandshrew, Sandile, and Drilbur are all very popular companions for this exact reason. They are also all great beginner Pokémon who are relatively easy to raise even in student housing.
Similarly, many field researchers enjoy the company of Pokémon who are able to run between field sites to help with tool or supplies deliveries, messaging, or even serving as a helping hand to find dropped objects. You can certainly look into a hardy Pokémon species that has the Pickup ability, including Bunnelby, Lillipup, Zigzagoon, and Aipom. Rockruff, Skiddo, and Mudbray are also very popular and quite well-suited to the rocky or desert terrain that digs often take place in; you just have to keep in mind that they are active species who require a lot of space available to them, and don't do well spending the off season in office or urban settings.
It is also quite common on field sites to see Pokémon present because of their ability to move and carry heavy things, including large boulders or cumbersome equipment. These can be Fighting-Types like Machop, Lucario, or Makuhita, or even pack creatures who can transport people, supplies, and other cargo for long distances where vehicles cannot. These can include Corviknight, Mudsdale, Torterra, and Golurk. However, these are very care intensive Pokémon and are better to add to a team later on, when you don't also have to worry about being a student on top of being a paleontologist. Just ideas for the future!
And finally, a surprising amount of paleontologists that I know own Flying-Type Pokémon. Apparently, some sites are so overrun with bugs that they pose even a serious health hazard to the researchers, and a guard raptor can make a really big quality of life difference. They can also help scout potential dangers like inclement weather, bandits, incoming dangerous Pokémon, and anything else that may be on or near site. Pigeot and Talonflame seem to be the most popular for their intelligence and loyalty to their trainers, but Braviary, Mandibuzz, and the Corviknight line are also great for this task.
I would definitely recommend choosing your first Pokémon from the first paragraph on this list; they are all the most popular for a reason. I would recommend spending a decent amount of time training and getting to know this Pokémon, since that can be key to informing how you want to structure the rest of your team later on. Depending on your choice, there are lots of great and exciting ways to continue building your team. The following are my matchup ideas.
If you choose Sandshrew, I would recommend opting for a Turtwig, Pidgey, or Zigzagoon as your second partner. Sandshrew are introverted Pokémon who don't do well with loud noises or persistent invitations to play, so another quiet Pokémon would be best.
If you choose Sandile, you'll want another Pokémon who can keep up with play-fighting and not be intimidated by the presence of a predator species. Lillipup, Rockruff, or Machop would be a great second member of your team there.
And if you choose Drilbur, a very task-oriented species, you'll want your second Pokémon to either be very patient or relaxed or similarly energetic in disposition. This could be Aipom, Skiddo, or even Golett.
Hope this was helpful! Best of luck!
-Thea

I'm Dune, and I live in the middle of nowhere a short flight north of Snowpoint, though I'm originally from Johto. I'm a program tech at a land and sea pokemon research center here. My job's more about facilitating the pokebiologist's work than partocipating in the studies, but I get out there sometimes.
While I do have a decent number of pokemon I live, train, and work with, the ones you'll probably most often see are my house 'mons, the Sparce Squad.
(Pictures and descriptions under the cut)
Tumblr media
Luther - my youngest dunsparce. Lax nature. Gets into less trouble than his siblings. If one of my dunsparces is flattened into a puddle in a sunbeam and there aren't traces of mischief nearby, it's probably Luther.
Lottie - Luther's sister (biologically; they were an accidental clutch of two I adopted from a young trainer who didn't know about the dittos and the daycares). Bold nature, doesn't have the same curiosity drive as Lysander, but by Arceus does she ever go along for the ride. If they've gotten an idea into their heads, Lottie's probably leading the charge.
Tumblr media
Lysander - Has an impish nature, and it takes about two seconds of knowing him for that to be incredibly obvious. I had to babyproof my house when I took him in. I didn't even catch him, I just found him in my house once when I forgot to close the door. It took a long time for him to acclimate enough to let me pokeball him, and he never really left the wild part of his personality behind, but he's a well-adjusted pokemon in spite of that.
Reginald - my trusted starter pokemon, met when I was maybe 8 exploring that cave outside Violet in Johto. Now that I've graduated and moved out on my own to a little town near Snowpoint in Sinnoh, I'm even happier to have him around. His Relaxed nature puts my anxiety at ease. He's the oldest of my dunsparce of course, and he's mellowed out as we've grown, but he does still get into the aspear berries if I turn my back on them...
Next up are some of my other 'mons. I had to leave some behind with my folks for the time being, since I don't have a house here yet. But I did bring these guys along!
Tumblr media
Fen - short for Fenrikaash, my arcanine. I let him learn bad habits as a growlithe and now he thinks he's a lapdog. On the plus side, having an arcanine is great here for transportation and warmth, and he has MILES of open area to run in!
Tumblr media
Delibird?? - I don't have a delibird but I'm pretty sure there's one living in my chimney. I'm gonna have to sligoogle this one, I have no idea what to do about chimney delibirds
Saltlick - a Nacli I saw on the beach when I first got here. It's content to sit on the shelf with my rock collection. He stays inside or out under my direct supervision because the wild stantler like him too much, thus his name.
Starchild - a galarian zigzagoon I was traded from a buddy in Galar. He's a pain in the ass and I love him so much. He attacks my phone if he doesn't like the song I'm listening to. Big fan of The Funeral Portrait though.
Lastly, some of the pokemon I interact with regularly that aren't my own!
Tumblr media
Joel - a lapras the pokebiologists use to haul in krabby traps. I think she belongs to one of my coworkers.
Tumblr media
Covy - a corviknight belonging to my wildlife pokebiologist coworker. She takes her up to do overhead counts of stantler and tauros populations
??? - a corvisquire belonging to Covy's trainer. I did not know it existed until it scared the hell out of me at work

Right.. Right.. greetings first.
Call me L or Livion. Whichever fits your image of me better. I am a traveling researcher that focuses on Legendary pokemon and the like.
Tumblr media
Card's basic but that's all I want. Team's been with me from the start and I take great pride in caring for them, we are companions after all. (Tap the Read more, I don't want to clog this.)
Oh, and I do have this little dastard with me every now and then, raising 'er. Her mother's a beast when it comes to battling though.
Tumblr media
---
Alright so team name is as follows.
Oblivion the Lurantis, my first pokemon and partner, she's a little beastie but a good leader.
Everest the Corviknight, he's not a fighter, moreso a flight specialist and is the one who takes us in between regions.
Cortez the Zoroark, a bastard, not literally but he knows what he's doing, a good fighter and always on high alert.
Tiny the Wishiwashi, shy but an absolute menace of a lady, her school of fish? Hell if I know where they came from, they're all a menace in battle.
Luren the Leavanny, he's a great lad, helps when the little Fomantis is being unruly but that's normal for them, it's like looking after others is his natural trait.
Canyon the Gigalith, they are unusually big for a Gigalith but they don't really care, gets aggressive when any of us are in danger. Give them an offering of a rock and they'll be kind to you for life.
--
I am native to Kitakami and I've since been curious about the world of legends and what they do when it comes to the changes of this earth, though I make sure not to get too close to these creatures, respecting their space. And I have seen the hubris of man in action and what it led them to do as well..
If you have any questions or you want to me to investigate a situation where you believe a legendary may be involved, I'd be happy to help.
But if you're part of an evil team seeking said legendary, I'm beating your arcdamned ass with a wooden stick and my boot.
Good day.
[ OOC Below! ] Current arc #unova explorations
Hello, this is @/leaf-storm-40, I run this blog for fun. It can get from high to low stakes whenever but it'll be low stakes for the majority of the time. Here are some small rules.
Sentient pokemon are ok, she's a little skeptic at first but she'll believe them.
Legendary blogs are the same as Sentient [but for the sake of the funni, they're ok to interact with!]
Don't go too far with asks (as in, don't go bordeline NSFW because I'll just get uncomfortable.)
Take note, this OC is rude by nature, but she's approachable.

🍒⏰🚨 for Pecha and Rawst?
Ask meme here!
Tumblr media
Pecha
The golden child? The overachiever? Rebellious??? She has always been way too anxious to do so…except when it comes to romantic interests.
Had a boyfriend in her early twenties that Cal very much did not approve of. (Guy had Team Plasma ideologies and was just genuinely a jerk) Pecha still stayed with him though. It kinda felt nice at the time to be in a relationship that wasn’t approved of but eventually the combined anxiety of her dad’s disappointment and her boyfriend’s pressure to release all her pokemon lest she was an abuser finally led her to break up with him.
Rawst
Kind of a homebody who didn’t really go out much, but he did break Cal’s ONLY rule which basically was no drugs when they were teens. Rawst got into vaping anyways and tries his best to hide it. His Tita Leppa caught him though and through the power of disappointment, Rawst stopped. It didn't help much with his anxiety anyways.
Tumblr media
Pecha
She has adhd, which leads to some issues with figuring out time stuff. In Pecha's case, she gets so anxious about making sure to be on time that she stops doing things HOURS before the appointment/meeting. Then she accidentally over-estimates how much time it takes to be there, so she ends up 20 minutes or more early. She's accidentally driven to a party way too early, only to park a couple blocks down and sit awkwardly in her car until it was an acceptable time to go in.
When it comes to working, Pecha overdoes it and loses track of time a lot when she's working on a big project that requires her whole focus. She can and has worked herself sick because of this before.
Rawst
Same as Pecha, he has adhd. He usually errs more on the side of time blindness though. Often forgets appointments until the last second. A lot of times he forgets to stream and is ten minutes late to the computer. But when he is streaming, he can lose track of time and then whoops. Accidental twelve hour stream.
He's a bit better when he's just editing videos since he limits himself to a certain video amount to edit before taking a break, but anything that isn't restricted like that immediately goes off the walls. Recording a video? He's done full video game recordings in one day.
Tumblr media
Pecha
idk how many people know this headcanon of mine but I like to think that bug-type trainers, due to hanging around with bug-types all the time, smell like bugs. It's because of this that when Pecha was young and on a research trip to Galar with her dad that she was mistaken for a bug-type and basically kidnapped by a Corviknight to take for her rookidees to eat. Of course, when the mama Corviknight got to the nest, she realized that hey this is a human and not a bug so Pecha wasn't almost eaten, but this event still left a pretty impactful emotional scar on Pecha. She's afraid of bird flying-types, especially of Corviknights. It could eat her... (They would never but the phobia is ever present in Pecha's mind)
She did have to get some hospital treatment for stitches because she was just in thing camping clothing and Corviknight have steel talons. (There's a reason why bird handlers wear thick gloves...)
Rawst
So many accidents, pretty much all of them are his fault. He likes to go to haunted areas and try to catch ghosts on camera, but this just leads to him almost getting beat up by real ghost-type pokemon.

Fan Gym Leaders
So basically, I'm working on a project regarding my fan pokemon region (Gira) and the process includes creating a badge case. Right now, the portraits for each gym leader are complete!
Tumblr media
Left to right, top to bottom, that's the order in which the protagonists fight them and in which I'll talk about them after the cut!
Jada, Normal Type gym leader
Tumblr media
She/Her · 45 yo · High school Biology teacher · During the week, she lives in Ribera City for work, during the weekends she lives in Sun Town with her husband's (also a gym leader) family and their children
Jada specializes in normal types, her full team consisting of: Blissey, Dubwool, Snorlax, Braviary, Porigon2 and Ursaluna.
Her gym is integrated into the school she works at, though she only accepts challengers outside of school hours. In her free time, she researches pokemon on her own or with colleagues, including the local Pokemon Professor. She will often use her own pokemon to help illustrate the lesson she’s teaching.
Jett, Steel Type gym leader
Tumblr media
She/Her · 19 yo · Guitarrist and Vocalist of her heavy metal band · Lives in Eco City
Jett specializes in steel types, her full team being: Aggron, Corviknight, Aegislash, Lucario, Scizor and Bisharp.
She's sadly a character which I can't reveal much of without spoilers, but what's safe to say is:
She sings and plays guitar for her band the Lone Bar Knights (pls appreciate the pun). They often do gigs at the gym itself and even though they only started recently, they got quite a bit of local popularity and some international fans inside of the heavy metal genre. The other members are: Mia (Bassist · she/her), Alba (Keyboadist · they/them) and Periell (Drummer, he/him).
Two toxtricitys have befriended the band, but none of the members have caught them.
Salix, Fairy Type gym leader
Tumblr media
He/Him · 10 yo · Grade school student · Lives in Canopy Town
Salix specializes in fairy types, his full team being: Togekiss, Alcremie, Florges, Hatterene, Sylveon and Gardevoir✨.
He lives with his single mother. They depend of his position as a gym leader to afford living. He studies in the same school in which Jada teaches, just some grades lower than her level. The rest of the league put great effort on him not getting involved with evil team bullshit amongst other things.
Lux, Electric Type gym leader
Tumblr media
They/Them · 17 yo · High school student, prepparing to go into engineering · Lives in Newlight City
Lux specializes in electric types, their full team being: Kuxray, Rotom (wash), Toxtricity, Eelektross, Electivire and Magnezone.
They're chronically ill, having trouble breathing, that's why they use a nasal cannula. Their grandfather, Volta, was the previous gym leader of the city, their legal guardian and also the person who they got their electivire from. Both Lux and Volta work to improve the city. They also have an older brother, Andre, who works at the local battle facility, the Battle Stadium. When they can't be at their gym due to their illness, either Volta or Andre cover for them.
Nero, Dark Type gym leader
Tumblr media
He/They · 27 yo · [REDACTED] · Lives in Madder City, born and lived in Castelia City until he was 17
Nero specializes in dark types, his full team being: Zoroark, Mandibuzz, Krookodile, Scrafty, Hydreigon and Liepard
They're really fucking secretive, so anything I could say about them is a spoiler. I can reveal this though: His number one hobby is making his zoroark get disguised as him, avoiding interviews and league meetings.
Leau, Water Type gym leader
Tumblr media
He/Him · 45 yo · Waterpolo coach · During the week, he lives in Escull City for work, during the weekends he lives in Sun Town with his family
Remember Jada's husband? That's right, here he is!
Leau specializes in water types, his full team being: Pelipper, Lapras, Poliwrath, Swampert, Floatzel and Toxapex
He's a waterpolo coach, his gym being in the same place he works at. He was born without an arm and uses a very colorful prosthetic. he specializes in double battles and last but not least: he has a floatzel themed hoodie.
Nani, Icy Type gym leader
Tumblr media
She/Her · 24 yo · Model · Lives in Rosada Town, born in Po Town prior whatever happened for it to be like it is in canon, lived in the Aether house until she was 18
Nani specializes in ice types, her full team being: Vanilluxe, Weavile, Galarian Darmanitan, Frosmoth, Glaceon, Alolan Ninetales
She works as a model and always makes sure that the other members of the league are fashionable, arguing that they should have a good image. Her parents died when she was too young to remember, so she lived in the Aether House (and yes, she knows Acerola and Nanu). She moved to Gira when she was 18 because she found a job as a model and subsequently became a gym leader.
She has no trouble with cold, wearing a crop-top in freezing temperatures. This is unlike her girlfriend Sol, the fire type Elite Four who can't stand the cold in any way.
Last but not least: Alma, Ghost Type gym leader
Tumblr media
She/Her · [REDACTED] · Historian and Librarian · Lives in Mitjanit City, born and lived in Snowpoint until 20 years prior to the story
Alma specializes in ghost types, her full team being: Dusknoir✨, Cofagrigus, Sableye, Basculegion, Mismagius and Chandelure.
The final one of the spoiler trinity, but not as bad as the other two. Her gym is the oldest one in the region, being at the top of an equally big (and beautiful) library. Other than taking care of the library, she's also a historian, being really interested in the Hisuan period. Her whole precense is built around a creepy victorian and/or retro aesthetic.
There are definetly false rumours of her being a ghost, which she likes to joke about and tease. Not because they might be true in the slightlest, no, no-
(if you've read all of that. woah. thank you)

Hey, I'm Lux, I'm from south Galar, and I'm a fulltime folklore nerd. And also pokebiology nerd, but unfortunately just when I was starting to figure out whether I wanted to go into medicine or stay in academia and research, my disabilities hit like a freight train and now I'm not able to do either, so I mostly just hang out with my own little gang of pokemon and research stories.
~The gang~
Luna - ninetales - Luna is... not quite a service pokemon? Medical support, I suppose? Long story short, a uni friend went on to work as a breeder with a particular interest in regional variants, and Luna is the result of attempting to crossbreed a ninetales with their alolan cousins, and while none of the resulting vulpix were the perfect fire/ice cross they were hoping for, Luna ended up with me acting as a heating pad that can also refresh the occasional ice pack. She's also a snuggly baby and I love her, so I guess that all worked out in the end
Casper (or Cas) - sylveon - the little man in my icon, and my first baby. Sort of. The first that was entirely mine, at least. My family had a delcatty when I was young, but she was very much my mum's. For deeply personal reasons I won't get into, my parents surprised me with a shiny eevee when I turned 11, and he took his sweet time before evolving about 10 years later. I know it's sappy and stereotypical to say about your starter, but he's still my best friend
Vax - corviknight - the first pokemon I actually caught myself when I was starting uni. Which, I'll admit is a bit of a late start, but that's a whole thing about me and my complex relationship with the way being a trainer is viewed in Galar. He's much sneakier than you'd expect of a 6 foot metal bird, and also sometimes forgets he is no longer small enough to try and nest in my hair
Mimi - mimikyu - I used to live in an old building with a terrible landlord, and Mimi had apparently made herself comfortable in the walls and was the main reason I kept losing sewing supplies. Vax managed to catch her and make enough noise one time to wake me up, and from there it was just a matter of coaxing her out with new needles and fabric scraps. She's still a little shy and skittish, but she's really sweet when she warms up to you
Ward - gallade - once upon a time, I was out and about with a person I was dating, and a little ralts came dashing over, grasped onto my leg, and wouldn't let my partner touch him to try and get him off me. I ended up keeping the little guy, and it turns out he was right to try and keep my ex away from me, since they turned out to be truly awful. To be clear, I'm multiply disabled and have a few pokemon that I'm not sure I'd describe as service pokemon, but they provide some level of disability support. Ward is not one of them. He does, however, think he is a service pokemon. Or, at least, he thinks it's his job to keep me safe, and that includes from my own body
Abby - absol - another pokemon I got entirely by accident. I ran into Abby while in the Crown Tundra with family. She proceeded to spend the entire day following me, even all the way back to the cabin we were renting, and just before I got inside, I slipped and dislocated my knee (thanks hEDS). Abby caught me before I hit the ground and howled her little heart out every time someone tried to separate us, so. Here we are. Like I said, I'm not sure I'd class her as a service pokemon, since she isn't trained for it, but she's very much medical support - she's good at knowing when my joints are about to give out, and she's also quite sensitive to my major environmental migraine triggers. She's surprisingly social, and she can be a bit of a cuddlebug, but only when something is wrong, so at least I get snuggles when my body decides to act up

Hydreigon: A Brief History
So, we've been on the internet for a while and keep running into all this commentary about Hydreigon. We're naturally, as one of the strongest Pokemon outside of legendaries, a popular discussion point for competitive trainers. There's just a lot of bullshit flying around as well.
Now, a lot of this does have to do with the ferocious reputation we've acquired. Infamously brutal, and also infamously hard to raise due to our difficulties in our unevolved forms. Now then, we've decided to do some research on our species, and the results are interesting.
Given humans blame us for being something they created.
You've probably heard of regional variants, how pokemon have changed over the years and adapted to specific regions, and that there are ancient Hisuian variants as well being brought back. What you might not have heard of is that Hydreigon also have a variant, and it's a much older form.
This is the Swabian Hydriegon. They come from Swabia, an extremely mountainous and famously neutral region in the center of Europa. It's also the home region to the original form of hydriegon. They're weaker in terms of base stats to the one you're familiar with, and very rare, about on par with Lapras.
This is a Swabian Deino. If you look, you'll notice something interesting, it still has its eyes. While the Swabian form of our species are weaker (BST of around 525), their pre-evolved forms are stronger and haven't lost use of their eyes. The additional heads are also generally much more cooperative in later stages. They're less powerful, but still strong enough to throw their weight around and secure the high peaks of their mountain homes and navigate them well as Dragon/Flying types, rather than Dragon/Dark.
Now then, how exactly do we get from A to B, and why is B found all over the world while the original form of our species is localized to one small area and rare even there? Well the answer is humans, and the human constant: War.
The Europan regions around Swabia were of course aware of our ancestors, and while they weren't as powerful or brutal as the modern variant, they were still feared, in part due to Intimidate being our ability instead of Levitate. So, as pokeball technology began to spread out of the east during the later middle ages, the great houses of Europa, particularly in the areas that would become the Austra, Bavarea, Itanian, and Rhein regions, began to capture and breed powerful pokemon for the purposes of using them as weapons in their endless wars.
The breeding programs spread further, however they were ultimately perfected in the area which today is known as the Dansig region. At the time, it was controlled by the descendants of an order of crusading warriors, who sought to transform the Hydreigon into their ultimate weapon. They succeeded, producing the modern Hydreigon and using it to conquer their enemies. However, such programs had consequences. As a result of inbreeding, the earlier forms of the line lost their ability to see, and became increasing aggressive both with themselves and one another. This was ultimately accepted, as since Hydreigon were weapons of the state, disabilities in earlier forms were bypassed by mass feeding of XP candies. If anything, the increased aggression made them better weapons. The results of these actions caused Hydreigon to lose their Flying type, though remnants of it can be seen in the Levitate ability and vestigal wings. In its place, the human's abuse and inbreeding transformed the species into the dark type.
This was hardly unique to the Germanic regions. For generations the Galarians had been known for breeding Corviknight, and the presence of such a powerful pokemon that could also be used by anyone throughout Galar is one of many explanations given for why Galar developed its constitutional monarchy sooner than other regions. The Kalosians famously cultivated the Aegislash line and used it to establish the absolutist power of their kings, until those same Aegislash were used to behead the nobility during the Kalosian Revolution. During the warring Regions period, Johto bred Tyranitar to such an extent that neighboring Sinnoh formed a permanent alliance with its Lucario population, and the damage inflicted on Kanto by its neighbors weaponized pokemon helped contribute to that region having such strong restrictions on importing anything beyond its 150 recognized native species. However, it was the particular character of the creators of the Hydreigon, and their carelessness, that resulted in the Hydreigon becoming so particularly infamous.
The power of their new weapons enabled the great houses of that region to conquer their neighbors, uniting all the germanic regions into a single empire, the 2nd Reich, through iron, blood, and dragonfire. There was some spread of the Hydriegon in this time, as the species was introduced to Galar and Paldea by intermarriage between the royal families, who brought their prized war pokemon with them. They were also introduced into other regions by the work of the Swabians and other Germanic humans as mercenaries, famously being used to great effect by the Hessian mercenaries during the Unovan war of Independence. Of course, many escaped, and being both an invsasive species and now a pseudolegendary bred for aggression at all costs, they heavily disrupted local ecosystems. This only further reinforced the reputation the species had as true monsters.
Of course this reputation would be permanently solidified by the two great wars. As the newly forged Germanic Empire waged war against Kalos and Galar, Hydreigon were deployed to the front lines as shock troops, infamously destroying much of Wyndon during the blitz. The 3rd Reich also famously favored the species as an example of the proof of Germanic superiority over other races, and proof that their eugenics programs would ultimately produce their superior human, their "Ubermensch". The 3rd Reich also pushed the species even further, attempting to breed it into a state where it could compete with actual legendaries, as their evil had grown so great that both Reshiram and Zekrom joined alongside Unova and the Tapus of Alola following the Pearl Conference Massacre.
This ultimately failed, though many of the scientists responsible for this would receive pardons for their crimes as part of Operation Paperclip, and their research laid the groundwork for what would become the Type:Null project. Yes, the founder of the Aether Foundation used to be a nazi, small wonder they wound up like they did. This same information would also be stolen by Team Rocket, and used to create Mewtwo. These artificial pokemon simply represent the next step in humanity's long running project to create living weapons.
So, when you consider the discussion of Hydreigon, that we are monsters, that we are brutal, that we are, as some would even dare to say, too dangerous to be allowed to live, remember that you created us. You took a species that, while powerful predators, was ultimately a stable population, and selectively bred it until our children were born blind, and we possess such extreme aggression that we even turn it against our own bodies. You created us. You demanded that we become monsters, and now, ignorant of that history, some of you dare to imply that we must be eradicated because you cannot control what you created.
What then is to be done? Well, the Hydreigon are here to stay. If you want our opinion, the best way to help begin reversing some of the damage would be to undertake a program for the Swabian Hydreigon similar to the one used to restore Lapras populations in recent years. Intermixing between the two species may help remedy generations of genetic damage. Furthermore, the conversation around Hydreigon should change, addressing the historic injustices inflicted on our people rather than perpetuating negative stereotypes that were your own damned fault in the first place. Let us be a lesson in why humans should not tamper with Arceus's creation, and the consequences of a worldview that only values strength, and pokemon as a means to that strength. Such attitudes have become common in these days as trainers pursue every edge they can in the competitive scene. Remember what they lead to. Lest both our species' offspring pay the price.

Pokemon Sword Nuzlocke Part 1.
This is the beginning of my first (documented) Pokémon Sword Nuzlocke. I have nothing better to do and am extremely bored. So why not?
The rules are simple.
1. Pokémon faints = Dead forever, no longer able to use it.
2. Battles are on 'Switch' mod to help make it easier.
3. Only catch the first Pokémon per route/area. If you fail to catch it, i.e. no Pokéballs, or accidental kill, you are not allowed to get another encounter.
4. Dupes. I am playing with dupes clause, so no Pokémon from the same evolutionary line. Different Pokémon from split evolutions don't count.
5. Items are allowed in battle.
And with that, let the games begin!
_________________________________
I start up the game and go through the usual motions to get my starter. Naming myself, selecting what I'll look like beforehand I change it, putting the text to fast mode, the general stuff.
After a very long opening cutscene, I'm off to meet Leon and finally get my starter.
I choose Scorbunny, name him Flint after the Sinnoh Elite Four, and the next day bash in Hop's Wooloo and Grookey.
After that whole thing, we have to run into some spooky woods to rescue a different Wooloo.
Anyway, nothing really exciting happens until we get to the end where *SPOILERS, YES I HAVE TO PUT THIS HERE-* an illusion of Zacian is.
I think we pass out from the shock cause we wake up to Leon lecturing us about going here.
So we leave the creepy place, and cam finally set off on our journey after telling my mom we're leaving. On to the first encounter!
I find and catch a Skwovet I name Barry, after one of my favorite rivals (you can judge me if you want-).
A quick style change and berry spending trip later, I catch my next encounter, a Blipbug named Einstein
There's a lot of trainers after this so I'll just skip that and move on to the second Hop fight.
Flint and Barry proceed to obliterate his team.
Lot of story happens but the gist of it is me and Hop get Wishing Stars and Prof Magnolia makes them into Dynamax bands.
We set off to the train station the next morning, Hop gives me a Swift TM, we get stopped by our moms who give us camping equipment and we finally get to go.
More story happens but don't ask for details, I really wasn't paying attention.
Anyway, I caught a Manny the Swinub (Rolling Hills), Sora the Vulpix (West Lake Axewell), Orville the Wingull (East Lake Axewell), Belladonna the Stunky (North Lake Axewell) and Glacier the Snorunt (Dappled Grove).
Also Einstein evolved, which is cool.
Finally, I got to Motostoke where I finally completed my look, wandered around a bit looking for items and got my number for my challenger outfit, I always pick 11 because it's my lucky number.
Some stuff happens and I beat some Team Skull grunts in a few battles.
Now it's actually time for the opening ceremony and man is that a long cutscene. I don't mind though cause that means I can just sit back and listen to my Reddit scary stories video.
I also got the Corviknight taxi service thingy with is cool.
I end up battling Hop for the third time, cause Kilnk named Klanker on Route 3 and made my way past the trainers all the way to Galar mine No. 1.
The only interesting thing that happened there was the Bede fight, besides catching the newest Pokémon in there, a Rolycoly I named Fossil Fuel.
The trainers on Route 4 were pretty easy and I got a pretty cool encounter of a Cutiefly.
The first gym was pretty easy, as expected and that opened the opportunity to acquire up to 2 new encounters before the next one.
Everything was going well, until I came to the realization that I don't have a Pokémon that can super-effectively hit any of Nessa's Pokémon as of recently.
I also realized I had two Pokémon that were weaks to Nessa's water types, so for now I have to box Flint and Manny. That leaves two spots open.
I did some research and apparently her Drednaw doesn't actually have any rock moves, so I'll possibly be able to keep Einstein in the equation.
The main threat is not knowing with water move she's going to go for, so I'll have to put something out that completely resists water attacks.
Good thing I have Orville.
I'm nervous, but in Flint and Manny's place I put Glacier the Snorunt and Sora the Vulpix to take their places for now.
If push comes to shove, I can sack them while healing the others.
Here goes nothing.
My plan is to lead with Einstein, the who is the best at taking special attacks, even better than Barry is. The reasoning is that her Goldeen has a really good water type attack in Water Pulse. By getting a Pokémon good at taking special attacks, I lessen the chances of any other Pokémon dying.
My next move is to use Barry for her Arrokuda, since that only has physical moves and physical defense is Barry's forte.
Lastly, I'll put out Orville, where the bird should be able to handle Nessa's Drednaw. Hopefully.
Well, things did go well at first. Einstein and Barry were abe to handle her first two Pokémon with ease.
And then came the Drednaw. I sent to Orvas planned and immediately realized my mistake. I didn't have a single move that could do very effective damage on this monster.
So guess what I do?? I use max geyser on it. Fine right? Neutral effectiveness and all that. Wrong.
I accidentally boosted it's water moves.
It nearly one-shots Orville and I hav to do some quick thinking took keep him alive. A max guard + super potion are able to stall the monster out of it's Dynamax. I quickly swap into Sora, making her take the incoming water attack before switching to Belladonna.
I thought I couldn't at least get a Screech off to lower its defense before needing to switch out.
But... the Drednaw out sped her and one-shot Belladonna. First (actual) death, to some stupid circumstances I forgot to account for.
I have to keep going though, the fight's not over yet. Luckily, there was a silver lining.
Aftermath, Belladonna's ability.
I struggled against the Drednaw who, despite it not being Dynamaxed nor rain boosted anymore, was still a scary enemy. My first decision was bringing Einstein out to set up light screen to lessee damage output and whittle it down and pray to not get Bite crit.
After awhile pf back and forth I finally get it where I want it, switch to Barry and Body Slam that dumb turtle, securing me the second badge.
It was hard, and definitely not without consequences, but I'm glad that's over.

Pokeblr ask questions
These looked really fun and I wanted to fill them out! So here we go.
Questions from here:
https://works-of-magic.tumblr.com/post/704562047385518080
What region are you from? What town? Sinnoh, specifically Celestic Town!
What’s your Unovan horoscope? So I've never heard about this before, but apparently it's Alomomola? Did some research and it suits me well enough, but I won't be basing my daily decisions on the horoscope.
Have you visited other regions? A few, yeah! I make a special trip to Lavender Town in Kanto every year around Samhain! We've also been to Kalos for a special Ghost-specific tournament, Alola because I really wanted to see what Mimikyu were like, and... well, the trip to Unova was quick but I still brought back a hitchhiking Litwick. Oh, and way back in our earliest days, we met a pair of psychics with an Abra that was strong enough to transport us to Mt. Silver in Johto, luckily they didn't really care that it was off-limits as long as nobody found out... but the more time passes, the more I wonder if it was just a hallucination.
Update: Mistress says it was real, and she's practically the queen of hallucinations. So I guess we've been to Johto too, yeah. That one was also quick, just a one-night stay.
What region would you most like to visit if ever given the chance? I've heard some really interesting things about Paldea! And I'm really enamored with Murkrow, okay, I always have been, so it would be a dream trip for me to find a reason to go observe some Johto Murkrow, get a feel for whether they're any different from the ones in Sinnoh! And also the Corviknight line in Galar intrigues me, but the only reason I'd want to go to Galar would be to observe them and the Sinistea line. But Galar is really strict about what Pokemon you bring into the region, and, well... It wouldn't be worth it if I can't bring Mistress. I wouldn't enjoy it without her.
Thoughts on the legendaries of your home region? Living in Sinnoh with our batch of legendaries is taking a giagantic risk. At least twice in living memory, Palkia and Dialga have started fighting with each other and broken the laws of physics in ways that put people and Pokemon in danger. You don't really hear about Suicune deciding to fight Entei and drowning the world or something. Even the stories I've heard about fights between Groudon and Kyogre (did I spell those right?) don't result in a possible apocalypse. Sheesh.
Arceus and Giratina are neat, I'm not really an Arceist myself and a lot of people who do my line of witchy work tend more towards Giratina worship, but I'm more of an agnostic theist. And then there's the Regi legendaries, but most of them avoid people and do entirely their own thing. I really don't have anything to say about them.
Thoughts on the legendaries of another region? If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Lugia or Suicune. Yveltal and Xerneas uphold an important balance, and that concept is pretty integral in my spirituality... (And spiritualism. Pokemon aren't the only ghosts I've interacted with.) Let's see... The bird trio in Kanto is neat but most of what I know about them is aesthetic. I've heard people have nice interactions when they encounter Victini, Celebi, and Jirachi, so they're probably friendly little guys? Uhhm... Those are all the ones that come to mind. You hear a lot of legends in Celestic Town, but the vast majority of them are Sinnoh-specific
If you were a gym leader, what kind of gym would you run? If you are already a gym leader or gym trainer, what’s your gym like? Oh, Ghost type, absolutely! Heh, I don't know how I could possibly run a gym without looking like a shade (pun intended?) of Fantina, because I'm way more of a coordinator than a gym leader! But it would have a spooky atmosphere and challengers would have to deal with the mind-games Misdreavus and Mismagius like to play. Look, if I'm going to run a gym, you KNOW it's going to be Misdreavus themed! Though Mistress would be my ace, probably.
I'd probably also have Berry on the lineup, because everyone knows Ghosts are weak to Dark type, and having a Fairy type in the mix could counter that.. Ooh, and maybe the Mismagius I brought home from Alola! Are you allowed to have two of the same species in a gym leader's team? Heck if I know. But that ghost knows Dazzling Gleam too, and lots of other type moves besides ghost. (Most people forget that Mismagius can learn moves that are Grass, Fire, Electric, Fairy, and Rock type too! And also dark and psychic but you see those often enough that I assume people at least suspect they can learn those...)
I'm going to stop typing there before I get on one of my Mismagius tangents. But you get the idea. A Ghost type gym that plays mind games with you and has two Mismagius on the team with a strategic addition as well is JUST my style!
Which do you prefer, competitive battling or battling for fun? Honestly? I don't really enjoy battling either way. My preference for battling is no battle at all. When I battle, it's not for fun and it's not for a title, it's for either making sure my team is strong enough to defend itself or for contest appeals. Though I couldn't resist battling Fantina. I do have that Relic Badge somewhere... but that's probably the only badge I'll ever own.
What type of battle strategy do you tend to use with your Pokémon? If you do contests or something else with your Pokémon, what is your preferred approach to that? I do use a highly strategic approach when I'm battling! I always try to press a type advantage, and I always use moves that utilize my team's natural strengths. Mistress struggled with Ghost-type moves for awhile, for instance, but she was fantastic using Psychic-type moves and she had a wicked-effective Lucky Chant, so we focused on that for awhile. I make a lot of other trainers rather irritated because I analyze the battle as it's going, and I switch up my strategy based on what species they're using, and I train my team to withstand some really powerful hits. Plus I have no qualms about switching Pokemon in and out, that drives other trainers crazy.
And oh my stars, how do I BEGIN to explain my contest approach?! Basically I try to find where my Pokemon's aesthetic and my personal aesthetic meet. I lean towards very dark and elegant designs, I prefer motion to static style, and I train ghosts, so like, our contest style is very dark and elegant. We usually incorporate dance and music; once Missie learned Perish Song that became our "signature move", if you know what I mean. And to keep my Contest partners in top condition, I make some MEAN poffins. My youngest sibling makes them taste better to people, but theirs are always for flavor over function, and mine are more balanced for both.
Favorite Pokémon League champion? Cynthia! Call it home team bias, but her team is also really difficult to beat, I've heard. She's been reigning champion for like two decades now, hasn't she? And she has a Spiritomb! That's another one of those Pokemon that gets a bad reputation, but can be a really loyal and powerful partner when you manage to earn their trust.
Favorite gym leader? Fantina, far and away forever Fantina! She runs a Ghost gym, she uses a Mismagius, she's a Top Coordinator, she travels, she blends her contest moves in with her battling style... And she has such a bright personality! She's a delight and I wish we could be friends, but, you know. I'm not even in the League circuit.
Give us a random celebrity (gym leader, tv personality, musician, etc.) you can’t stand and why. I avidly avoid celebrity gossip and all that. Frankly I just don't care. But I've heard the old leaders of Team Plasma, and Team Galactic, and Team Flare, all wanted to do terrible things to the world. Some news you just can't escape... and gosh, hearing Team Plasma supporters going off a few years back was INFURIATING.
Thoughts on your home region’s Pokémon League? I don't exactly keep up with it? My best friend took on the Sinnoh Pokemon League and did pretty well! But, you know, aside from knowing Cynthia makes a really good champion for us, I don't know much about it.
Weirdest recent local news story? I don't even have a tv and the only radio I listen to is a curated online station. I, uhh... I don't follow local news. But I heard there was an Unown breakout recently? I think I heard that there's a cave somewhere, maybe near Solaceon Town?, where they usually gather, but it's weird for them to gather anywhere else in Sinnoh. The divination witches were talking about the end of times and everything, all over some random Onown. It was kind of hilarious, actually.
If you had to pick a Pokémon to represent you, what Pokémon would you pick? Not to steal Mistress's thunder, but absolutely a Mismagius. I'm a witch, I'm always garbed in flowing skirts, I actually own four conical witch hats, I practice both baneful and benevolent magics, and I can be strategic in a lot of flexible ways. Also, I use a lot of crystals and gems in my magic, and the gems on a Mismagius are pretty important to them. And I'm very good at startling people when I "appear"... and I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I'll sling a spell just to see what happens. And I'm way better at spiritual or mental tasks than physical... and I can be pretty quick when I need to be but I don't have a whole lot of stamina... You know what, maybe I'm already a Mismagius that just THINKS I'm a human! /j /j /j
Favorite evolutionary stone? Not to be predictable, but: Dusk stone! Both Misdreavus and Murkrow, two species in my Top 5 Favorite Pokemon Ever, evolve with it! I've never actually trained a Honchkrow, Murky would probably feel the fury of a woman scorned if I kept one in the breeding center. But I've raised four Mismagius at this point, and one of my signature contest costume pieces is a necklace made of a spent dusk stone. It fits my look really well! Plus, on the magical side of things, its correspondences are things like protection, secrets, shielding, and introspection, all really good things for me.
Do you prefer to hand decorate your Pokéballs? Do you have a preference for any specialty Pokéballs? Oh, in the Sinnoh Contests, if I didn't decorate my Pokeballs I'd probably lose appeal points right at the start! So I use lots of seals. I love playing with those things! Trick likes them too, though I think he mostly likes to hide in the smoke and use it to help him prank people.
As for specialty balls, I mostly use dusk balls, timer balls, and luxury balls.
Do you think Rock and Ground are distinctly different Pokémon types, or largely the same and incorrectly categorized? I think there's a difference, in the same way that there's a difference between Psychic and Ghost, and Normal and Fairy. It's like they're on the same axis but opposite sides of the spectrum, does that make sense? Now I'm not a type researcher, but I like the specificity. It helps me as a strategic battler know what I'm dealing with when they can tell me if a Pokemon is weak to Ice or not!
Do you think Grass and Bug are distinctly different Pokémon types, or largely the same and incorrectly categorized? I honestly don't know enough about either to make a call. I kinda just breeze by Bug and Grass types. I figure they're different, though. A Cascoon doesn't absorb nutrients from the sun.
Do you think Water and Ice are distinctly different Pokémon types, or largely the same and incorrectly categorized? Well, I know Ice affects Dragon types differently than Water, so they must be different, right? All the Ice types I've met had a more, heh, "chill" personality, too. I get along a lot better with Ice types than Water types in general. (Kinda surprising I've never caught a Froslass, isn't it?)
Do your Pokémon wear any fun accessories? (Already answered! Tl;dr not usually, we mostly save the accessories for contests and special occasions, but I DO have a Mismagius that likes to adorn himself on the daily and a Mimikyu that likes to play dress-up.)
Does your Pokémon have a favorite item? That depends on which Pokemon! Murky's is easy, his favorite item is berries. Dry berries. Willow always wanted to become a Mismagius, and we kept the dusk stone I evolved her with as a keepsake. Berry, my Mimikyu, loves when I bring out the Contest accessories case! (I can tell you that Sheera HATED wearing the soothe bell, though. And Mistress DESPISES Pokeballs.)
Do your Pokémon battle? I've kind of answered this, huh? We do sometimes, but not often. I use it mostly to pad my income. (Breeding Ghosts and the occasional Murkrow smack-dab in the middle of Eterna Forest makes for a rather niche customer base....) Especially if I'm raising a baby for someone that wants a battle partner, I'll lay the groundwork for training the baby, and that involves some battling. A breeder's job isn't just reproduction, after all! We've also battled quite a lot in self-defense, and to defend others, which is a big part of why I train my team for battling in the first place. And it's a good way to work out each other's rhythms for contests, too! You can learn a lot about your Pokemon through battling.
Would you ever enter one of your Pokémon in a contest? Which one? Oh, we've done SO many contests! I didn't have time to try one of those... what do they call them, the dress-up and dance stages in Kalos, I think it was? We were really focused on the Trick or Treat competition, heh. But we've done plenty at home! Missie is really my contest star, though Mistress greatly prefers contests to battling. She uses it as an outlet for self-expression. Murky tried contests now and again, and an odd assortment of my other Misdreavus are raised for contests and bred for the right temperament and condition. Sort of my specialty actually, breeding different traits in my contest line versus my battling line!
What type of food do your Pokémon prefer? What flavors? Oh, that's easy. Murky likes Dry, Mistress likes bitter, Ninetales will eat anything, Berry likes Spicy, Starpoint likes Sweet, Screech also likes dry... Let's see, there are more and I have this all written down in a chart somewhere, but most of my working team likes berries and the poffins I make.
Pokéblocks, Poké Puffs, Poffins, Poké Beans, Curry, or Sandwiches? I think the Alolan Mismagius still dreams of Poke Beans, but they don't grow very well in Sinnoh's unrpredictable climate. And no, sir, I am NOT paying for a greenhouse just to grow them! So personally, I really like making poffins, the technique is soothing and I've been making them for years, so it's almost effortlessly easy for me. The ones who tried Poke Puffs quite liked them! But gosh, making pastries is a lot harder than making poffins. They're so temperamental. Theoretically I know how to make curry, but I've never learned from a Galarian? Closest I come to excelling at is a stir-fry! And as for sandwiches, they're alright I guess but I don't know how to make them with the ~Paldea Flare~. I know nothing about making Pokeblocks though, and none of my team has tried them.
Who was your first Pokémon? How did you get them? How long have you had them? Ninetales! He was a gift from my parents-- well, my dad mostly. Sort of as a reward for keeping up on my chores and grades. I've had him since I was about 8 years old! He was just a tiny Vulpix with five tails that day, and I was essentially clueless on how to train him. Luckily we both had a certain degree of wanderlust and a taste for adventure, so even though I wasn't really interested in battling, we spent a lot of time exploring. I didn't really have any human friends back then, so he was my only real companion.
What is your most recently obtained Pokémon? Probably that Alolan Mismagius! He essentially wandered up to us when we were there and decided he was joining the team, and how could I say no?
What is your favorite Pokémon type? Ghost, of course~
What is your least favorite Pokémon type? Hmmm... I don't get along well with Fighting types, and Ninetales is the only Fire type I've been able to keep up with.
If you could have any Pokémon in the world to add to your team, what Pokémon would it be? I already have four Mismagius. Sweet dreams are made of this... but if I must choose one, I've heard Sinistea are adorable. I'd have to earn its trust quick though, because I do leave a LOT of tea unattended...
Have you encountered any rare or unusual Pokémon? I saw a Shiny Murkrow years and years ago! It actually made a lot of trouble for us, I think Murky developed a nemesis that day. I've glimpsed... Mesprit, I think it was? And I've seen Giratina in visions.
Have any of your Pokémon evolved? If so, what was in your opinion the most difficult one to evolve? Already answered! Ninetales of course, Mistress I found as a Mismagius but she had a lot of problems post-evolution, and Willow and Stella were both raised from baby Misdreavus and evolved in my care. Oh, and Excalibur was a Pidgey when I found him and now he's a big beautiful Pidgeot!
Do you have a Pokémon that refuses to evolve? Most of my Misdreavus don't want to, but the only one that steadfastly REFUSES is Murky. He harbors a serious grudge against Honchkrow and will actively fight you if you suggest it.
Did any of your Pokémon have temperament issues when they first evolved? How did you handle it? -squints- Mistress had temperament issues when I first found her, but I didn't know her as a Misdreavus, so I don't know how much of that was the evolution and how much of that was her deep distrust of people. Ninetales' personality changed drastically and at first I thought he was sick, because he was pretty energetic as a Vulpix and he calmed down a lot after evolving. But I don't think it was an issue.
Which Pokémon took you the longest to bond with? That's definitely Mistress. It was probably a year before she really started to trust me, and when she was closed off it was hard to figure out HOW to even bond with her. She tried not to show anything and she actively tried to prevent us from getting close. Luckily I persisted, because now I can't imagine life without her!
Do you have a naming convention for your Pokémon? Nah, though I usually base it on their personality or a special story I share with them.
What Pokémon did you grow up thinking was rare only to find out they’re common elsewhere? Misdreavus. Oh my gosh, they ARE kind of rare in Sinnoh and Johto, but apparently they're SO easy to find in Alola!
Do you and your Pokémon have any badges or contest ribbons? Which one are you most proud of? Already answered! Recap: Several of my Pokemon have contest ribbons, and Mistress has her own ribbon case entirely because she has contest ribbons, the Footstep ribbon, some decorative ribbons, AND I got her all the ribbons from Julia!
Favorite thing about your partner Pokémon? Favorite thing? Just one thing? One singular individual thing? Maybe that's it, that she's a complete individual and won't let anyone or anything else define her. We treasure originality on this team!

I'm not sure how it fits in with ranger protocol, but if you were interested in having a Corviknight around, try the Taxi Service. Sometimes, they have Rookidee or Corvisquire who have failed the navigation tests one too many times and can't legally be put to work. Some of them may have specialized needs. Others just don't take well to the long shifts of intense flying. Either might fare better in a localised work environment.
Hey now, that’s a great idea! Thanks professor! I’ll head on over to the Motostoke Taxi ranks and have a talk with one of the drivers there. It’s fun, talking to them reminds me a lot of talking to the dock workers my dad used to hang out with back in Pueltown. Fingers crossed they can help. There’s plenty of space nearby for a permanent roost, and being able to monitor situations from the air would be a huge step forward for the station. Some eyes in the sky can make all the difference in an emergency. And hey, if they’re up for it it would make patrols a lot faster flying about the place! Traversing the Wild Area on a bike might be a great workout but boy, my knees are still sore just from riding out here.

Legends Arceus has really been inspiring me to write about Paras and Parasect... The little bastards! 😤 So I'll put it here c: it's what I got right now for my homebrew Pokemon IRL tabletop.
Paras (#047) Massosporasitus iratus
General Information: Paras are insect-like creatures with sharp pincers and parasitic mushrooms, called tochukaso, growing on their backs. Paras eggs are doused in the spores of these mushrooms from their mother. This means that while infants are infected with the mushrooms from birth, they do not have the mushrooms until they get older as the tochukaso develop with the Paras. These mushrooms can be safely removed at any time from a Paras, though it should be noted that the mushrooms do exhibit some mind-control properties onto the Paras host. Researchers have argued whether these mushrooms are truly parasitic, since Paras cannot evolve into Parasect without them, but many others have pointed out that the evolution is just an adaptation to an environmental stress, and further note that uninfected adult Parases (only possible under strict laboratory conditions, or extremely rarely in the wild) seem perfectly capable of thriving without the tochukaso. However, this research means very little in the grand scheme of things, as scientists tend to think that Paras and Parasect are fine the way they are, since their species have been getting along just fine for a few million years by now.
Habitat: The tochukaso really like damp and dark places, like caves or underground burrows or well-covered forests, so that’s where Paras live. Wetlands, temperate forests, rainforests, and any place that receives plenty of rain throughout the year, are sure to find plenty of Parases. The northwest region of the United States, for example, has a huge Paras population. Their ultimate preference for rain, is frequent slow and steady drizzles, but can tolerate quite a range. They have to live in habitats with trees.
Life Cycles: Paras and Parasect have the same life cycles, a mother lays clutches of 30-60 eggs per batch anywhere from 1 to 5 times a year—dependent entirely on climate, soil hydration, weather, and available nutrients. Parases found in cold climates with drier soils and less favorable rain patterns or fewer food sources available, will have fewer clutches, while Parases found in say, equatorial rainforests, will often reach 5 clutches per year. As a bug Pokémon, Parases are often the prey of Ariadoses, Galvantulas, Araquanids, Staraptors, Corviknights, and other similarly bulky predators that would find a Pokémon like Paras delicious. However, smaller predators will fair poorly against Parases as their pincers will deal great damage to the unprepared and under-leveled. Once a Paras evolves into Parasect at level 24, it gains bulk that it then uses to defend the Parases in its troop.
Behavior: Paras and Parasect live in troops anywhere from a handful of individuals to upwards of a hundred in some places. They have a loose social hierarchy based on combat skills, so Parasects are automatically treated with greater respect than the average Paras, but all members of the troop are defended vigorously from predators and unsuspecting hikers. Any reproductively viable member of the troop can reproduce, though both sexes have a preference for mates that are capable of holding their own in combat, so the Parasects in a troop will experience the greatest number of mating opportunities. Scars are thought of as battle trophies.
Diet: Parases gnaw on tree roots to sap energy from them. Trainers, your Paras can be fed specialty Pokémon food (which Nincadas, Ninjasks, and Shedinjas can also eat), otherwise just let them burrow into some tree roots and have at it. If necessary, Parases can be fed roots, honey, or even berries, though the berries do not meet their full nutritional needs and should only be supplementary or as emergencies. A Paras who only eats berries will die of malnutrition within the month (which is a completely normal timeframe for any creature to die of malnutrition).
Conservation: Least Concern
Relationship with Humans: These aggressive bastards are the bane of every trainer's existence, every camper, every hiker, and anyone who even thinks of stepping foot into the wrong part of the woods at the wrong time. They have large pincers and they will use them to attack you. Not only that, but they live in groups and will attack as a united front. If you see Parases and Parasects, then it's best to turn tail and get the hell out of there.
The tochukaso have medicinal properties and are often sought by collectors.
Classification: Paras and Parasect are evolutionarily derived from Cicada-Pokémon, but their closest living relatives (Nincadas, Ninjasks, and Shedinjas) are still about 25-30 million years apart. Together, they are in the same Cicada-Pokémon superfamily, but Massosporasitus is the most distantly related to the rest of the living Cicada-Pokémon. Because of this, some scientists speculate on what a Paras evolution would look like if they were not infected by the tochukaso mushrooms, with some hypothesizing that it would be a flying-type evolution in-line with Nincada into Ninjask, and efforts to induce this in laboratory settings are underway. Currently, these efforts have been astoundingly unsuccessful.
Parasect (#048) Massosporasitus dianoia
Parasect is now fully controlled by the tochukaso mushroom on its back, with all of its nutrients drained from its body and it completely unable to move should the tochukaso ever be removed from it. They are known to swarm the roots of trees and drain them until the tree dies, before moving on to the next one. Why this only sometimes happens, is unknown. In addition, as the largest defenders of their troops, Parasects often find themselves in territory disputes with Shiinotics. These battles will leave the area covered in spores, paralyzing spores from Parasect and sleep-inducing spores from Shiinotic! Wanderers, beware!
Parasect are functionally just bigger and badder versions of Paras.
Habitat: The same places that Paras can be found.
Diet: The same things with the same restrictions as Paras.
The tochukaso have medicinal properties and are often sought by collectors, but be careful not to remove the mushroom entirely from the Parasect, or you will render the poor thing immobile!
Parasect are massive agroforestry pests and have been known to completely destroy entire orchards of crop trees in a matter of days. Farmers have to keep a tight watch on Parasect populations, often utilizing Combuskens, Houndooms, Pignites, and Emboars to keep them in check. Other orchard farmers will try to encourage wild Ariadoses and Galvantulas to eat the infesting Parasects. However, Emboars love to eat the mushrooms on Paras and Parasect, and a single one can keep 10 hectares of tree crop defended from infestation all on its own.
Oh for the scientific names, I based the genus name on "Massospora" (the genus of mushrooms that infect cicadas) and "parasitus" (latin for "Parasite"), with "iratus" meaning "angry" or something in Latin (because Paras are angry little buggers who are offended at your mere existence) and "dianoia" being "mind" in Greek, in reference to how Parasect are entirely mind controlled by the mushroom on it.

Pokemon Piers x Female Reader (OC)
Summary:
You and Piers confess your feelings for each other but you’re only in the Galar Region for a limited amount of time. What do you two decide to do with your newly professed feelings?
Notes before reading:
Originally from Unova, in Galar for research.
You’re working with Sonia researching dynamaxing pokemon.
You’re full-time job is working at the pokemon nursery, you rehabilitate injured pokemon and you take care of abandon pokemon.
You have a Levanny as your pokemon partner.
AN: I’m back! I’ve been sitting on this forever thinking “why do i always have an OC when writing for different characters, i don’t know” I’m going to post it anyway! Hope you enjoy!
You are at a party in Hammerlocke hosted by Raihan in honor of the new champion because it’s long overdue after the Rose incident and the twins' fiasco. A party was what everyone needed to celebrate and unwind. You’re Sonia's plus one, and once you had a moment by yourself Raihan came over, drink in hand, smug look on his face, “Hey, y/n are you single?” he’s straight to the point, “Asking for a friend.”
Your face immediately gets warm. Your eyes quickly shift over at Piers before looking back at Raihan. As quick of a glance you thought it was to Piers, Raihan noticed, and his smug grin only got bigger. “Piers?” he asks.
“Is that the friend?” you respond.
He simply shrugs in response giving you a playful smile.
You give him an eye-roll and followed by a light shove. Your cheeks are pink with embarrassment and you’re only a tiny bit upset that Raihan was able to read you so easily.
He lets out a laugh, “Don’t be embarrassed.” He reassured, “So you know. He stares at you every time you look away.”
“Why are you telling me this?” As cute as you think Piers is, the thought that he could like you back never crossed your mind. “I don’t think he likes me much at all.”
You’ve been in town for about two weeks now, and every time you are around, he never seemed to be interested in you. He would only talk to you if someone else was already talking to you. When you two got into a conversation, you thought he was just being friendly. There was that time where he invited you to Spikemuth, but he invited everyone, and when you said thanks, he ran off without another word.
Raihan lets out a small laugh, followed by a slight headshake, “I’ve known Piers a long time. As fearless as he is on stage, offstage, he’s shy. Keeps to himself, and never draws any more attention to himself than he needs to.”
For some reason you didn’t believe that, but decided not to push the topic. “Again. Why are you telling me this?”
“because” Raihan sighs, “I’ll say it outright. Piers likes you, and I’m letting you know that he’s not going to make a move. You’ll have to do that.”
You turn to face Raihan, who mirrors you and smiles at you, “He’s a good guy, but he’ll always put everyone’s feelings before his own. He’s focused on getting Marnie set up to take over the Spikemuth gym. So, he’s just going to stare at you from afar and use Marnie as an excuse to come over and talk to you because my poor punk baby is never going to do it himself.”
“Please ask my brother out, y/n.”
You turn around, and Marnie steps up next to you two. “We have to make this conversation fast.” She says, “It’ll only be a matter of time before Piers comes up to join our conversation.” You look over at Piers, who makes eye contact with you, and you look away again, heart beating fast and blush washing over your face.
“I don’t know what you guys are talking about. He doesn’t like me.” You try to lie to yourself. You are only going to be here for three months you live in a different region, even if things went well and things worked out, how long would it last with the long-distance?
Marnie and Raihan roll their eyes sharing a glance.
“Everyone can tell that you two have a thing for each other.” Marnie gestured at you.
“Everyone except you two.” Raihan continued.
You don’t know what to say. All this information was coming so fast.
“And then I whipped out a peace sign saying I would win the next one.” Raihan let out a hearty laugh.
“What’s going on, you guys?” Piers asked as he walked up to your group. “Hey, y/n.”
“Hey, Piers.” You quickly sink into your drink, at the same time trying to shrink into the background to disappear. Now that you knew that he liked you back, you didn’t know how to act around him. Not that you knew before, but definitely not now.
“Raihan was just telling us how he lost to Leon. Again,” Marnie said.
How were these two so good at lying?
“Now, my goal is to defeat Leon AND Gloria.”
“Good luck with that.” Gloria laughed, joining their group as well with Hop and Bede close behind. “These two nincompoops want to duke it out in the stadium, can they Raihan?”
“Oh, hell yeah.” Raihan cheered, “I’ll ref! But first!” he takes his Rotom phone out, “Selfie!” and he brings the group together to snap a picture. It felt purposeful where Marnie took a step forward, giving peace symbols as Hop and Gloria get close to you, pushing you into Piers. You and Piers lock eyes, you feel your face turn bright red while you give him a sheepish smile. He smiles at you in return. When the camera snaps, neither of you were looking at the camera.
“This one’s a keeper!” Raihan said looking at the photo, “Let’s go to the stadium!” Raihan announced to the room. The kids run off with Raihan as they run past you and Piers. Piers instinctively pulls you close as the VIP room empties, leaving you in a daze as to what just happened. You two are some of the few remaining people in the room. You look up at him, and the two of you share a moment where his arms are around you protectively.
“Thanks, Piers.”
“No problem.” He hesitantly lets go of you and pulls at the ring on his choker, “Raihan always manages to get people pumped up for Dynamax battles.”
“It's fascinating.” You say, looking through the window over at the stadium, “I’m just curious what the lasting effects on dynamaxing pokemon are.”
“Is that what you’re working on with Sonia?”
“A little.” You look over at him and catch him looking away from you when Raihan’s words go through your head: He likes you.
“Do you want to watch?” he asked.
You shake your head no, “I’m good after that Swordbert and Shieldbert thing, I’m good without dynamax pokemon for now.”
He nods, “Alright then.”
You suck in a quick breath, you take a shot, “Do you want to get out of here?”
“Sure.” He agrees without any hesitation.
Crap. You didn’t think you’d get this far this fast. “Let’s go to the daycare and see some baby pokemon.”
He gives you a soft smile, “Sounds like fun.”
He orders a Corviknight, and it takes you two to route 5. Not only were you working with Sonia on the lasting effects on Dynamaxing pokemon, but you also helped out at the daycare. Your fulltime job is daycare caretaker, you help rehabilitate pokemon and care for the ones abandon by their owners. You two go inside the daycare and see your Levanny sitting outside the door of the nursery spitting silk as if she was knitting.
“How are things?” you ask her.
She lets out a soft coo and points to the door, telling you to be quiet. Then she starts pointing at you two and nods.
“Okay.” You blush, “C’mon Piers.” And you lead him out of the daycare.
“She takes her job very seriously.” Piers joked.
You laugh, “Yeah, she’s great at it.” You breathe relieved. Even your pokemon seem to think you two would be good together. “Sorry, we can’t see any baby pokemon right now. They’re all sleeping.”
“It’s alright.” He was so go with the flow, it was nice change of pace from your crazy structured day-to-day life and his presence is just so calming, “It’s a beautiful night,” he gestures down the bridge towards Hulbury, “care to join me?”
“Of course.”
The two of you silently walk down the cobblestone together taking in the view and the fresh air. The night was perfect. The sky was clear, the stars shined bright next to the moon in the sky, there's was enough moon in the sky to illuminate your walk, but not enough to drown out the beauty of the night. It was a picture-perfect evening. Other couples were walking around and standing on the bridge.
“This is romantic.”
You blush at his voice and the thought. “Yeah.” You let out a weak chuckle, “I walk this every day, and I never realized.”
“It’s… beautiful.” He stammered. You looked at him, he was pulling on his ring again.
You gently touched his upper arm, “I think so too.” He lets out a light sigh followed by a smile.
You two stop in the center of the bridge, overlooking the wild area with a gorgeous view of the Hammerlocke gate, “This is my favorite view.” You say leaning against the railing as he takes his place next to you.
“It’s beautiful.” There’s a noticeable pause between the two of you as you looked over the wild area. “Just like you.”
You stop and look over at him. He lets out a low cough, obviously looking away from you trying to avoid eye contact. A lightbulb went off in your head, he was trying to do that earlier too. He’s so precious.
“Piers,” you pause, I like you.
“What's up?” his voice sounded hopeful.
“Nothing, it's dumb.” You shake your head, giving yourself an eye roll. While he turns to look at you, you turn away looking in the opposite direction.
“I’m sure it’s not.”
You face him, and for the first time, you two make eye contact without the other turning away instantly. Everything about him takes your breath away. You feel your face get warm again. He’s so cute, especially in the moonlight. His bright blue eyes were so easy to get lost in. It wasn’t obvious, but he has such a welcoming and friendly energy that once you got past an exhausted looking Piers, that did scare some people, he is honestly the nicest person anyone would be lucky to be around.
“What?” he asked, his face grows concerned. You look ahead of you again, taking a deep breath trying to find your composure.
“Okay.” You wipe your hands on your shorts. “I’m going to take a shot here because of,” you rotate your hands around each other avoiding his eyes, “ideas.”
“Yeah?” you could hear his confusion.
“Has anyone told you anything.” you wonder aloud, looking back at him.
“I mean.” He looks away this time but back at you before continuing. “I think you’re cool, but I know you’re only here for what two more months?”
“Yeah.” You sigh. That was a big factor in why you didn’t want to get involved with anyone here. You were only in Galar for three months, you had two and a half left. There was no need to get into a relationship with each other or even bother about letting him know how you feel. As much as everyone wanted to, there was no point. Why make your small group of friends here awkward?
“I’ll just come out and say it.” You look over at Piers. “I have a crush on you.”
“What?” you say instinctively. Raihan said he wouldn’t make a move, but apparently, he didn’t know Piers as well as he thought he did. You heard what Piers said your brain just needed a second to comprehend and register what he said.
“I’m sorry.” He apologized, pulling at the ring on his choker, “I just felt like I would’ve exploded if I didn’t get it out right now.”
“No, it’s okay. I just….I like you too.” You respond, “I just don’t know.”
“Same.” He lets out a weak smile.
The silence is tense between you two.
“You leave in three months, and I just don’t want to make things awkward.” Piers said. “I really like hanging out with you and I don’t want that to change, but if….” His voice trailed off.
“Yeah! I totally get that.” You agreed, “We don’t want to force anything.”
“No. No. Definitely not.”
“So, we could just take this as it goes.” You say.
He nods, “Yeah…”
“So, because you said it. I do like you too.” You reassure him.
He gives you a smile, “Thanks, I was getting nervous for a minute there.”
“Have you not been nervous this entire time?” you joke, “I’ve been freaking out.”
He laughs, “No, I’ve been a nervous wreck this entire time.”
You two share another laugh together as you have before. It felt natural and easy being with Piers. You deeply wished something would happen between you and Piers, but there was time to see where this would go.
“So, we’re just going to see where this goes?”
“I’m okay with that if you are.”
“I’d really like that.”
“Okay.” He smiles at you, “Want to come over for dinner on Thursday? I have this new song I want you to hear.”
“Yeah,” you agree, “Text me when you want me over.”
“Always.”
It was a good feeling to get that off your chest. You two lean against the railing looking back out at Hammerlocke gate in silence, but closer together. You lean your head on his arm and take in the moment you have together. Piers settling into being your pillow.
“Thank you.” You say, “I’m glad.”
“Me too.” He responds.
Thursday came. He was just finishing up a training session with Marnie, while you sat in the back watching the two battle. Immediately after Piers comes up to talk to you about what he was planning to make for dinner.
“I hope that sounds okay.”
“Sounds awesome. I can’t wait.”
“I really hope you like the song too. I wrote it with you in mind.”
“Piers.” you hold your hand over your heart, when Marnie walks over and starts stabbing the air between you two.You two stop what you were talking about and stare at her.
"What are you doing?"  he asks her.
"Trying to cut the romantic and or sexual tension between you two.” She continues furiously stabbing the air, “Crap, it’s not working!”
You and Piers blush furiously.

Jhotoian Decidueye
A Dossier:
In Jhoto is a small Parliament of Decidueye, ever more rarely seen than Alola, found deep in the mountainous forests and away from any known settlement, this Subspecies are notable for having a sexual dimorphism in a unique way to what most would consider a Standard Decidueye, while the males are notable for having either Pink or Green hoods at what seems random, as well at their shorter and slimmer builds with a larger more silent wingspan compared to the Alolan cousins.
The females are larger in many regards, Talons recorded that exceed the length of even Corviknights and Bravaries. Some witness reports suggest they range from 5′4″ to 6′2″, they are also regarded as dangerously territorial, while the males roam and hunt small prey for their young, females will hunt prey large as Tauros for large feeding, these reports however are not proven to be true, as we are aware females will not go far from their nests which they aggressively guard from outsiders and other rival groups. In such manner however the size and appearance seem more aggressive looking than to the males, as the females are more likely to be scarred from previous battles, as well as darkened feather coloration as well as the enlarged size and wingspan.
The origin of these Decidueye baffle many researchers, as not only do they show the ability to interbreed with Alolan Decidueye their habits and features seem far more different to what we consider as “Decidueye” In time the population may explode or disappear all together if they are not preserved correctly, why this breed came to be is as they currently are is up in the air for debate as the very clouds in the sky.

@marydragneell here is the latest update
Spiritomb’s Revenge
["I suppose I should be upset, even feel violated, but I'm not. No, in fact, I think this is a friendly message, like ‘Hey, wanna play?’ And yes, I want to play. I really, really do.”
- Dexter]
Wyndon Police Station.
The station is in uproar. The lines have been ringing off the hook since early morning and have not stopped since. It is now lunchtime, but it looks like no-one will be able to grab a bite to eat.
In Postwick, roughly 11am, a man attacked a woman with her baby as she took a stroll near the Slumbering Weald. The suspect is still at large.
In Turrfield, twenty minutes later, an old couple were robbed at point-blank and subsequently beaten to death. The suspect then fled into Route 5. Searches proved ineffectual.
In Hulbury, half an hour later, a woman had reportedly jumped into the sea. Divers are still searching for her.
In Motostoke, ten minutes later, a middle-aged man fell to his death after he was pushed over the railing of the second level of the city by a young girl. The young girl has been brought into questioning but does not recall any of her actions.
In Hammerlocke, the CCTV of the vault picked up a masked individual attempting to steal the treasures within. The suspect was later apprehended but has no recollection of the incident. It was later revealed he is a kiosk worker at the stadium and he was on his lunch break.
There’s plenty more, at least five to six maximum cases of assault, robbery, suicide, manslaughter, murder or other petty crime per city and it’s doubling as the hours go pass, and Graves rubs his chin as waves upon waves of police officers report to him a startling increase of unrelated, independent events.
This is very strange. This has never happened before in Galar. This is madness. The reporters and journalists have already jumped on this, firing out Breaking News and Shocking Stories of a region overtaken by madness. They call it mass hysteria whilst some people are debating, calling it domestic terrorism.
There are worse reported crimes taking place in bigger cities like Wyndon and Hammerlocke, where concentrations of civilians are higher. Have all the criminals decided to let loose today? Is this some cult movement? Some online, social media movement?
After barking some orders to his colleagues and coordinates, Graves quickly weaves into his office and picks up his phone to call his goddaughter.
“Hello?”
He’s grateful she picked up. “It’s me.”
“What’s up?”
“What’s up? What’s up? Have you not been watching the news?”
“No, I’m outside with Jace. We’re at the airport to send Volkner off.”
He grumbles. “Goddamnit, go home when you’re done, you hear me? Stay home tonight. The whole region’s gone crazy.”
Wedgehurst.
The old woman knocks on the front door of the quaint little detached house with her Applin in her hand and waits. A short while later, footsteps can be heard approaching; it opens and a little boy peers through the small gap of the door.
“Hullo,” he says.
It’s Granny Smith. She lives next door and bakes him and his family plenty of apple pies.
She gives him a wide smile, the wrinkles on her face bunching together. “Hello Johnny!” she says in her soft and gentle voice, “is everything alright? I heard some very loud noises…”
The boy cocks his head to the side as she tries to sneak various peeks inside the house; he keeps blocking her, darting his head to the left as she bobs to the right and so forth.
“What loud noises?” he asks, the corners of his lips tugging upwards into a small smile.
“Just some very strange, very loud noises,” she says, “where's your mother?”
“Out.”
“Where's your father?” she asks, before she sniffs and giggles. “What a lovely smell.”
“Yes. My dad is in the kitchen, making lunch.”
“Oh, how lovely. And here I thought you were in trouble for a moment there. Have you seen the news? It’s utter chaos out there today.”
“No, as you can see…everything’s fine.”
She nods in agreement, stroking Applin’s tail. “I’ll be off then. Sorry for bothering you.”
“Goodbye,” Johnny says, then he promptly slams the door shut. It trembles violently in its doorframe with a loud ‘slam’.
“Oh," squeaks granny, a little startled.
She slips Applin into her bag and begins to shuffle out of their front lawn, throwing a glance over her shoulder; she sees him peeking at her retreating back behind the safety of the drawn blinds of their living room and when he’s caught, he ducks from sight.
When she’s away from view, Johnny leaves the lounge and into the kitchen where two chairs stand side-by-side and a man and woman are bound by plastic nylon cable ties, their arms fastened behind their backs and their ankles tied together.
Their mouths are covered by gags fastened securely around the back of their heads and as the boy approaches with a grin, they flail and shake their heads violently, their shouts for help muffled.
“Who was that?” Jace asks as you hang up the phone.
“Graves, he said there’s a sudden spike in crime in Galar today and told me to be careful,” you utter.
“That’s weird, I wonder what’s going on.”
You have a bad feeling about this. “Jace, let’s go.”
You are with Jace at Galar International Airport; Volkner has left Galar. He’s already boarded his flight to Sinnoh and should have taken off by now, having thanked you and Jace once again for the hospitality.
With coffees in hand, you and Jace head for the train station that will take you to Wyndon where you will get a Corviknight taxi home.
“I better give Leon a quick call,” you murmur, and Rotom quickly dials the Champion for you.
It rings for a few seconds before it’s picked up.
“Hey,” says Leon, and despite the noisy background, you can hear the excitement and affection in his voice when he greets you. You’re certain you can hear him grinning, too.
“Hey, are you okay?”
“Yep! Everything alright?”
“Graves said there’s a lot of crimes today, he told me to be careful.”
“I haven’t heard, I’m doing a photoshoot for Densoku right now,” he replies. “Where are you? I’ll be done soon; I can come get you when I’m finished.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine, I’m with Jace right now. We’re good. I just wanted to check up on you, that’s all. I’ll check if Hop and your mum are okay when I get back to Wedgehurst.”
“Okay, thanks, that would be great."
As you continue your conversation with Leon, Jace sips his coffee quietly and you hang up. He’s still feeling lukewarm towards Leon, neutral towards your relationship with the Champion.
“Is he okay?” Jace mutters, and you nod.
Whilst you wait with tourists and commuters on the busy platform along with their pokemon, this a perfect opportunity to discuss with Jace about his new job.
“I thought about it for a long time, and I decided to go for it. I’ll be an electrician at Sunyshore gym,” he says, “Volkner’s always tried to get me a job but I didn’t complete my training in time and when I did, all the jobs were gone.”
“Oh, so…you really are going to leave Galar,” you mumble.
A brief silence occurs; Jace glances at you worryingly and you look at him with a thin, watery smile.
“I’ll come and visit you.”
“I know you will.”
Eventually, the tannoy announces the train is approaching and to stay clear from the yellow lines on the platform; the train finally arrives, chugging to a gradual stop and the doors whoosh open.
A mix of tourists, and men and women in business suits with their pokemon pour out and the travellers on the platform, including yourself and Jace, pile into the awaiting carriage. Unfortunately all the seats are swiftly taken so you’re the only unlucky folk who have no choice but to stand, so you and Jace hog a small section near one of the doors, holding onto one of the handles as the train begins to move.
The conversation continues.
“I’m sorry, chuck.”
“Don’t be sorry! You’ve been offered a job you’ve always wanted! You can’t pass up on this opportunity.”
“Y-yeah, I know...I’ll miss you,” he murmurs, and he shifts his gaze to the window, watching the peaceful Galar scenery roll by. It changes from the industrial-looking airport to a highway full of speeding vehicles. Jace says, sighing, “I’ll miss you a lot.”
“Me too, but I’m really happy for you, Jace,” you reply, following his gaze to look outside the window, at the sheep pokemon.
The train enters a tunnel with a loud fwoosh and the peaceful greenery is immediately replaced with an inky black screen; the windows go dark with your reflections and behind you, a tall and shadowy figure suddenly appears.
The carriage grows cold, the temperature dropping and your body begins to tremble. Jace speaks but you can no longer hear him, his voice fading away into the background. In a split second, fear grips you like a vice, your heart grasped and squeezed, your chest about to pop. Your eyes promptly widen when you realise what is responsible for this, yet somehow you are able to move, to whip round to face the entity only to greeted with empty space and the carriage begins moving again, Jace's voice returning.
"-so I know I've always wanted to be an electrician but-"
His words fall on deaf ears as you frantically search the area with your gaze. There was no-one nearby; the seats are all filled with sleepy businessmen whilst a couple stands in the corner near the opposite doors playing with their Pokemon, who aren't affected.
"Did you see that?"
"See what?"
"A shadow," you utter. "There was something standing behind me the moment the train went into the tunnel."
Jace raises a brow and looks around you. "No, I've been standing beside you the entire time and didn't see anything. Are you okay?"
Unsure what to think of it, you hastily clear your throat and force a nod. "Y-yes, I'm fine. Never mind. Sorry, um...I'm probably tired; it was... probably just a trick of the eye," In an attempt to return to the conversation, you say, “You said you've always wanted to be an electrician?”
He nods. “Yeah, I’m really excited. I start in two months. That’ll give me time to get used to the region and find a place to stay. Volkner’s letting me stay with him for the first few months of course, but I should really find my own apartment…”
“You don’t sound so sure.”
He looks at you and smiles widely. “Ah, sorry! No, I am sure, it’s just…maybe I’m getting too attached to Galar. Chuck, would you…ever go back to Kalos?”
“I’m not sure. Probably not. Too many bad memories.”
“Hm, I see."
When the train emerges from the tunnel, the sunshine seeps into the train and the highway disappears, revealing bountiful green pastures full of grazing Wooloos and Dubwool.
However, you cannot shake off what you saw.
Meanwhile, the small TV screen fixed on the train’s walls blasts out news of violent crimes appearing all throughout Galar.
When the train arrives in Wyndon, you and Jace split up and you take a Corviknight taxi to Postwick where you quickly check up on Leon’s family; they are fine, deciding to stay at home due to recent news.
Returning home, Sonia greets you. “Hey, you’re back! Ezra's here!”
"Huh?” you exclaim as you enter the house, slipping off your shoes.
You glance at the conservatory where you see a familiar old man in a black duster with an Absol seated quietly on one of the white sofas. A flowery teacup and teapot sits on the table for him, but he’s left it untouched. The fragile decorum contrasts heavily with his dark, grungy appearance.
“Ezra!” you squawk as you head over. “You're here! I was worried about you, and there’s something I need to tell you-”
His eyes are closed and as you approach, he begins to cough, blood leaking out from the corner of his mouth and as you grab a tissue for him from the box, he shakes his head and wipes it away with his sleeve.
“I’m fine.”
“You need to go to hospital.”
“No, not yet; we need to stop Spiritomb,” he grunts.
“Spiritomb??”
“Yes, those crimes. They’re all Spiritomb’s doing. It’s going on a rampage.”
Sonia exchanges concerned glances between you and the old man.
“It’s possessing people…specifically those with immense evil in their hearts, and carrying out attacks before quickly leaving the host. It’s the work of the one hundred and eight spirits we sealed away,” he mutters, “they are clashing and fighting for control, with one personality taking over at one time… hence why the crimes that have been reported are so varied.”
“Got it,” you reply with a nod, and Ezra shifts to get up and off the couch. “Any leads?”
“Yes. I detected its presence in Wedgehurst. Let’s go now before it escapes.”
“Okay.”
“Wait!” Sonia intervenes at once, waving her hands in the air. “No, don’t go, this is too dangerous!”
“Don’t worry, Sonia. Ezra and I know what we’re doing,” you tell her with a smile.
It’s been a while since you and Ezra have worked together.
“The hate is strong in this one,” says Johnny, before he glances at the helpless couple he’s kept tied up in the kitchen, “I guess he has you to thank for that since you're the ones who raised him into such a disrespectful and vile spoiled brat. Let me give you a little taste.”
Sidling to the microwave, the two begin to cry with fear and flail against their bounds as he opens the door and pulls out the crudely sliced and half-cooked body of a Spearow, sliding the slushy, gooey red remains of the bird pokemon onto a porcelain plate before he grabs a fork and returns to the couple’s side.
“Open up,” Johnny says as he steps behind the father’s chair and pulls the gag out of his aching mouth.
His lips are crusted all over with spit, dry and wet, and the man shakes his head fiercely in a futile act of protest, hot tears streaming down his eyes as Johnny grabs a handful of the meat. Mangled flesh and deep red ooze drips over the boy’s small fist before he promptly smears the meat over the man’s mouth, his fingers and nails soaked with rancid blood.
The man fights to keep his jaws clenched tightly together in a desperate bid to refuse, but Johnny counters by gripping his chin tightly and with two fingers, roughly forces his jaw open, allowing him to stuff morsel after morsel down the man’s gullet. He chokes, gagging uncontrollably but Johnny merely picks the pieces up and rams them down his throat once more.
“Don’t waste food. There are starving children in some parts of the world,” he says.
The woman screams relentlessly at the morbid sight, squeezing her eyes shut with fright whilst jerking fiercely against her bonds, shaking and flinging her back against the chair as with as much strength as she can gather, the chair legs scraping an inch across the floor.
When the meat is all gone and the man is left rasping and panting, a few red blobs and chunks of flesh drop to the floor in messy piles, and Johnny abandons the now-empty plate in favour for a plastic bag he’s kept near the microwave, looping it over the man’s head and tying the handles firmly around the front of his neck.
Terrified, the man’s eyes dart left and right, the insides of the bag fogging over from his shaky breaths.
“Johnny! Stop!” the woman screams, and the boy briefly pauses in his actions to slap her harshly across the face with the back of his hand.
Her head snaps viciously to one side, hair strewn over her eyes. She goes silent from shock before she begins to sob, her cheek stinging.
“How dare you hit your mother!!” Johnny's father yells, his shouts muffled. With each word, each laborious breath, the flimsy and thin plastic of bag sucks into his mouth and out.
“Shut up,” snarls Johnny, taking a few steps backwards so he can stand proudly in front of his parents where they can see him properly.
Johnny’s smirk reaches all the way to his ears, his eyes crazed and maniacal. It’s a face not belonging to their son at all but a monster, and it sends them into muted shock.
“…You’re not my son,” the man spits venomously, wheezing as he struggles to breathe.
“You’re right,” says Johnny, “I’m not.”
Nonchalantly, Johnny sidles over to a canister of gasoline he had kept propped up next to the fridge and unscrews the lid, allowing a strong but pungent, sweet smell to waft in the air.
With a hand on the bottom and the handle of the canister, the couple scream and splutter as he douses them, emptying the entire contents over their heads and bodies; the woman continuously shakes her head whilst sobbing and begging. The man howls in terror.
“Now for the grand finale,” the boy says, dumping the empty can to the floor and whipping out a lighter from his pockets, flicking it on with a jerk of his thumb and a little flame springs up and dances in the air, taunting the couple.
Relishing the sound of their screams, Johnny promptly drops the lighter.
A fierce barrage of red and yellow immediately engulf the kitchen in its entirety.
The fire licks at their bodies ruthlessly, and Johnny stands, his eyes dancing with delight. The flames reach his feet yet he doesn’t flinch; lifting his arms into the air horizontally, he throws his head up and closes his eyes and basks in the heat, failing to notice the letter box on the front door squeaking open and a voice whispering, “Prohibere eum.”
A delicate, white paper crane subsequently flits inside, flapping its little wings as it bobs towards the direction of the burning kitchen.
The boy whips his head round to the doorway, eyes narrowing.
“Who’s there?!” he snarls.
Spotting the crane, he stares at it limply for a few seconds until it unfurls, revealing strange symbols painted in red. Brows furrowing, his hand shoots out and he grabs it, scrunching it up tightly under his fist.
Unraveling his clenched knuckles, his palm is coated in patches of the strange red ink and before his very eyes, the ink blots merge together to form the symbols which promptly disappears into his skin like a dampened tissue.
“What?!” he yells in shock and confusion; the symbols soon make their presences known once again, this time, stretching all over his arm.
His body suddenly feels itchy all over. He dares to take a peek at a mirror magnet on the refrigerator to see the red symbols have appeared all over his face.
It’s too late; the exorcists are coming for him – and the boy immediately collapses over the floor, eyes closed.
His mouth is eased open and a purple transparent bubble slinks between the gap of his lips and continues to crawl out. It grows in size until it begins to form a distinct, ragged spherical shape, followed by a stone. A smooth, brown stone with a fissure in the middle. The creature crawls out of the boy’s mouth and slips over the floor in a puddle, just as the front door is abruptly kicked open and you step inside with Ezra.
“Sequimini eum!” Ezra yells, as Spiritomb attempts to make its frantic escape.
The pokemon is heading for the window – Gengar emerges from a shadow and fires a Shadow Ball at it – the attack misses and Spiritomb phases through the glass, vanishing outside.
“It got away!” you curse, but Ezra shakes his head.
“No, not this time. I’ll go after it,” he says, before he casts his dull gaze to the bodies on the floor. "Stay here and call an ambulance and the fire brigade.”
“Understood,” you reply, and Ezra abruptly leaves the house with Absol. “Gengar, follow Ezra, then come back to get me, okay?”
Your pokemon nods and merges with Ezra’s retreating shadow.
Water-type pokemon would be handy here but you do not have any so you hastily grab a blanket from one of their sofas, and with your pokemon’s help, you each grab a corner, soak it under the taps of the kitchen sink and throw it over the burning bodies.
The fire is extinguished at once, smoke fizzing out and into the atmosphere in thick wisps; the unmistakable stench of burnt flesh hangs heavy in the air.
Whilst you call for an ambulance, Mimikyu checks the fire alarm of the house which shows signs of being sabotaged, most likely Spiritomb’s doing. Vulpix slides a paw under the blanket to check the damage and shudders once she’s had a look, she settles the blanket back over their bodies.
Once the ambulance and firefighters are called, you leave the house.
Spiritomb is the most dangerous pokemon you’ve ever encountered.
It’s time to rejoin Ezra.
Meanwhile, Graves slows the car to a stop and pulls up at a gas pump outside Turrfield, Route 5. It’s been a crazy, hectic day and he’s on his way back to the police station when his car has run out of gas.
He rolls up his sleeves, pulling open the flap and feeding the nozzle inside. As the car fills up with petrol, Graves stands, whistling, looking around casually when he hears a woman’s earsplitting scream in the distance.
“What the hell…”
He eases the pump out, placing it into the holster and steps out, squinting his eyes at the horizon; a middle-aged woman comes running towards his direction, dishevelled and petrified beyond belief, the expression on her face full of nothing but terror. A short distance away, a familiar old man is limping after her along with an Absol.
It’s the homeless man called Ezra, whom his goddaughter is acquainted with. The ex-convict. The man who was jailed for murdering his wife and kid.
The woman he is chasing is screaming for her life, and when she spots Graves who rushes over, she heads for his direction and clings onto his arm. Her eyes are wide and panicky as she pants heavily, gesturing wildly to the pursuing Ezra.
“Help me, please! That madman is after me!!!” she shrieks. “He's trying to kill me!”
“Absol, attack!” Ezra commands, and the pokemon dashes towards them but Graves immediately reaches a hand behind his waist and pulls out Arcanine’s pokeball, tossing it into the air and releasing the canine pokemon.
“Stop! Take one more step or I’ll command Arcanine to attack!” Graves snaps, as Arcanine readies itself into an offensive stance, growling at Absol threateningly.
Immediately, passerby’s scream and begin rushing for cover, whilst the customers of the gas station run inside the gas station to hide.
Absol comes to a skidding halt, her paws kicking up dirt, but she snarls loudly at Graves and his pokemon and begins to pace back and forth as though ready to pounce at any time should her master willed it.
Ezra growls with frustration as the woman hides behind the Chief Inspector. “Inspector Graves. That woman has been possessed by an extremely dangerous pokemon,” Ezra barks, pointing to the woman. “A Spiritomb. It’s the culprit behind the recent crimes.”
Graves turns to the woman who throw her horror-stricken glance up to him. She blinks at him with widened eyes and shakes her head wildly. “He’s crazy!! Help me, please!”
“Arceus, you’re insane,” Graves utters under his breath, “ma’am, I’ll take you to the station where you can get help. Ezra, stay right where you are. Arcanine, watch over him and make sure he doesn’t move.”
“You’re making a damn mistake!” Ezra growls.
The old man takes a step forwards and abruptly stops, bowling over with a hand clutching his chest. Absol returns to his side, yowling loudly with concern as he enters a harsh coughing fit; his chest is on fire, his lungs pierced by a sharp, throbbing pain. As Ezra splutters and chokes, he drops on one knee, slapping a hand over his mouth in a futile attempt to prevent the uncontrollable rush of blood that’s spilling out.
Viscous red lines seeps through the gaps of his fingers, spilling over the concrete in little splotches. Absol wails with fright at the sight of her suffering master who inevitably collapses over the ground on his front, motionless.
"Ezra!" Graves yells, but he's effectively halted when the frightened woman tugs on his elbow.
“Oh, thank you,” she says, “thank you so much.”
“Ma’am, stay here.” He instructs. Graves isn't on bad terms with the priest though he doesn't trust him in any way, but he cannot leave Ezra like this so he recalls Arcanine, dips a hand to grab his Rotom phone to call an ambulance only to emit a cry of pain; the device falls out of his hand but luckily, the pokemon bobs back up before it completely meets the ground
“Sir, what’s wrong?” Rotom asks, only to witness the woman dropping to the ground as a purple swirl emerges from her mouth which has latched itself to Graves’ back; a purple mist encases his body and seeps into his chest as a purple tendril begins crawling towards his mouth. Horrified, the phone flits in the air helplessly. “Bzzzzrt! Zzztop! Zztop thizzz at once! Oh, Mazzzter, Mazzter Gravezzz! Zzomeone, help!!”
The creature vanishes and Graves’ eyes snaps open, now a bizarre shade of lime green; Rotom stares in horror as the entity grins and pats at his chest and looks at his arms before spotting the bridge that overlooks the Wild Area, connecting Turrfield and Hulbury together.
….
Gengar returns to tell you Ezra is in Turrfield, so you make your way over as quickly as you can and the shadow pokemon leads you to a gas station which is in chaos. Several vans belonging to various TV stations are parked outside along with their TV anchors standing and delivering live news and interviewing witnesses. A few locals stand behind the tape, pointing and whispering, whilst a puddle of blood has been outlined with a yellow chalk.
You manage to overhear the following:
“Yeah, so I saw this woman rushing up to this middle-aged dude, and then this old dude with an Absol came and the middle-aged dude pulled an Arcanine on him. Sick move, man.”
It’s utter pandemonium. Beside one of the gas pumps, you recognize Graves’ car from the license plate and head over, peering through the windows. It’s empty.
An ambulance is also parked closeby where you see Absol outside, howling mournfully with her head raised to the air.
“Absol!!!” you rush over, squatting in front of her. “What happened???! Are you okay? Where’s Ezra?”
Absol stops yowling for a moment to regard you before a voice worms inside your mind: "My father is inside. He’s unconscious."
“…..Cassie?” you breathe out in shock.
Absol blinks at you with her bright blue eyes before she continues howling once more. The doors to the ambulance subsequently open and you’re greeted with a paramedic who jumps out and you briefly see Ezra inside, lying on a stretcher with a breathing mask.
“Ezra!” you yell, “Can I go in? I know him.”
“His condition is stable, you can go in.”
“Thank you!” you climb inside the vehicle and the paramedics within are helping set up heart monitors and IV drips around him. “Ezra, I’m here.”
His eyelids open weakly and he mutters deliriously, “….Spiritomb….it’s taken your godfather…It took the guise of a woman…your godfather thought she needed help…Don’t mind me, go after the fool before he gets himself killed…he was heading for route five…”
“But-“
“Go,” Ezra urges, “I’ll be fine…..”
“O-okay. Take care.”
You nod reluctantly and leave.
You find your godfather in Route 5 as Ezra had mentioned, standing precariously on the ledge of the fifty-feet high bridge, overlooking the scenery of the Wild Area below. He’s barefoot and missing his suit, his hair messy, tie undone, shirt sleeves rolled to the elbows and looking very unkempt.
None of the TV crew have arrived yet, which you’re grateful for because you do not want the media to get involved with this fiasco.
However, it’s unavoidable that some people and their pokemon have gathered around, standing at a safe distance several feet away. Whilst some individuals are recording this scene on their phone, others are trying to talk him down but to no avail. Some are actively asking if there are any trainers with ice-type pokemon that can freeze him (no-one has any, unfortunately). Ultimately, no-one seems to know what to do.
“Let me through! I know him, I’m his goddaughter!” you yell, pushing your way through the crowd and making your way to the very front. “Graves!! Graves – urgh, I mean, Uncle Chris! Don’t do it!”
Graves whips round yet you do not see his features, only a grinning mass of purple with green flecks. It’s Spiritomb, who grins maliciously at you.
“Get out of his body!” you growl angrily, gritting your teeth with rage.
“No, I like this body very much. The misery, the regret, the loneliness. He misses Ellen very much, he wants to be with her,” says Spiritomb, “and he misses your family, your father. He regrets not doing enough. You’re sad all the time because of him. He can’t do anything. He’s useless. He wants to die.”
The crowd go quiet, watching your interaction, though a kind-looking woman holds you back.
“Be careful, it’s best not to get too close because he’s very agitated right now. It’s best not to aggravate him or make sudden movements," she mutters.
You can hardly hear what she’s saying, the sheer panic and distress that you normally don’t experience during uncertain and dangerous times like these has suddenly kickstarted in your system.
“No!!!” you yelp in a desperate bid to get through to your godfather, “Stop it! Stop thinking like that!! I’m still here, I survived!!! You didn’t fail!! I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you feel like you’re useless. You’re not! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! I’ll enroll in the police academy, okay? I won't make you worry for me anymore. I'm sorry!”
And Graves falters slightly, grumbling incoherently under his breath. Spiritomb's visage briefly vanishes as your godfather’s brows scrunch with confusion.
“You’re the only family I have left and I can’t lose you too! Please, Uncle Chris, snap out of it!”
Graves grumbles and groans in response to your pleas, his eye twitching.
You throw a sideways glance to Gengar; he’s lurking in your shadow and giving you a nod, silently travels over towards Graves’ direction.
And Spiritomb snaps, “Shut up!”
Then he turns and jumps, just seconds before Gengar leaps out from the shadow to grab him. Missed.
People scream, whilst a few trainers release their bird pokemon and direct them to go after the fallen man and Gengar buries himself into the shadows once more.
You throw yourself to the ledge, peering over where you see Graves plummeting helplessly in the air. “No!!”
Your pokemon bursts out forth from Graves’ falling shadow but he is not close enough. His eyes glowing, Gengar’s eyes and claws turns red before he spins in the air and throws his arms up, forcibly extracting a purple blob out of Graves body – it’s Spiritomb, whom he’s now trapped in a glowing red forcefield. Spiritomb growls and resists, shooting several Shadow Balls against its confines to no effect. The attack hits the walls of the forcefield akin to cork bouncing against a brick wall.
However, Graves is still hurtling towards the ground despite Gengar’s attempts, and the bird pokemon swooping towards him aren’t quick enough either.
“Wait, what’s that in the air?!!!” someone cries, pointing to the sky.
Everyone follows the direction of his finger and you see a familiar flame pokemon heading for your group. It’s Charizard; he’s zooming towards your way and the crowd begins to cheer.
“It’s Charizard!!! The Champion is here!!!”
“YES!”
“Go, Leon!!!”
Charizard swoops past and dives, folding his wings close to his body to reduce the resistance of the air, allowing himself to barrel towards your godfather's direction in seconds; in his wake, he leaves a gust of wind billowing that blows the majority of the crowd off their feet and to the ground including yourself; as you sit up, slightly dazed, you look around frantically for Leon and there he is, sprinting towards you from the direction of Motostoke.
“Leon!!!” you cry with relief, scrabbling up to stand.
Charizard returns with a massive flap of his wings, shooting up and into the air before he lands on the ground, clutching an unconscious Graves in his arms.
“Charizard!!” you exclaim, “Thank you!!”
The pokemon snorts loudly and gives you a toothy grin as he lays the unconscious man on the ground in front of you as carefully as he can so you can inspect him. You breathe a sigh of relief; Graves is unharmed.
People begin cheering as Leon finally arrives whereas Gengar returns to the bridge with Spiritomb who is still stuck in the forcefield. When the flying pokemon return, the trainers all turn to the trapped pokemon and proceed to divert their fury towards it, using a wide range of fairy-type moves and others to attack it.
You hear Spiritomb croaking out in pain whilst the other flying type pokemon join in, whaling blows and pecking at the pokemon whilst their trainers cheer and pump fists in the air.
With half of the crowd focused on and bemused with attacking Spiritomb, the remaining crowd part ways to let Leon through and you look up at him as he moves to crouch beside you on one knee.
“Hey, are you alright?” he asks gently, but you are so shocked you merely throw your arms around him with gratitude.
“Thank you, Leon…”
He bundles you up in his arms, stroking the back of your head. “It’s okay, everything’s alright. I’m here….” He mutters soothingly in your ear, “I’m here.”
