The giraffes near Saint Mary's Hospital in Salt Lake City. This scene was much needed and really cute.

Underrated Joel dad moment from episode 9 is when Ellie drops the ladder on him and runs off. He doesn't know why she's running or what she's seen and he's so panicked. The way he says her name is just so laden with fear. Muttering under his breath, "just wait, goddamn it. just wait." Even then he's so scared of not being able to catch up because he just never manages it. He's always playing catch up and he's always too late.

I am SO glad they went with a real giraffe and not a cgi giraffe here. It was beautifully done.

giraffes become a symbol of love for joel and ellie. giraffes remind them of a single moment when everything was okay, when ellie was laughing and smiling and joel was overjoyed to see that side of her again. giraffes remind them that it’s not time that heals wounds. it’s each other.
joel finds her a stuffed giraffe on patrol and ellie almost cries when he gives it to her (no, she won’t admit it). she names it joel jr. and sleeps with it every night. when they’re redoing ellie’s room, joel asks if she wants to get rid of the framed giraffe on the wall. she says “no!” so quickly that it startles both of them. she draws a giraffe and joel puts it on their fridge. they find a national geographic magazine in the jackson library and cut out all of the giraffe pictures inside. when they can’t find the words to say they love each other, giraffes say it just fine.

The giraffe scene in the original game has always been close to my heart, so getting to remake the giraffes for Part 1 was so so special to me - she's probably my favorite asset I've ever made 🩶 [x]

Im sorry I can’t beleive I experience this in real time. Mans isn’t even acting. This ain’t the giraffe scene or him teaching her how to shoot the rifle.
PEDRO???? LOOKIN AT BELLA???? JUST HIM LOOKING AS A NORMAL HUMAN WITH A WHOLE LOTTA LOVE IN HIS EYES???? insane. what a time to be alive.

my favorite piece of environmental storytelling/character work in tlou1 is that Joel can pet some of the animals that you encounter and interacts with all of them in some way (through dialogue or otherwise)
