Today's compilation:
DJ-Kicks by Kruder & Dorfmeister 1996 Downtempo / Trip Hop / Drum n Bass
Although they'd been primarily regarded as a talented remix and production duo, in 1996, Austrians Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister revealed to the world that what they may have actually been even better at doing, all along, was making DJ mixes. That year, they put out a pair of terrific ones: a drum n bass journey called Conversions, and their super chilly magnum opus for German electronic label !K7's popular DJ-Kicks series. And that DJ-Kicks one, in particular, happens to hold a mythical status of its own, as it's been rated by many as the single-greatest DJ mix that's ever been made. Plus, like Conversions, DJ-Kicks had drum n bass on it too, but K&D also blended that dnb with blissful bouts of dub-infused downtempo and trip hop as well 😌.
But what I ended up listening to today wasn't actually that mix, exactly; instead, it was the *double-12-inch edition* of K&D's DJ-Kicks, which collected full-length, unmixed versions of seven of the songs that appeared on the mixed CD edition.
So, if you love loungey chillout music and/or spacious and atmospheric dnb tunes, not only is the DJ mix essential listening for you, but so are all of these uninterrupted versions of some of that mix's own tracks too. Glasgow's Paul Hunter kicks things off with a terrific head-nodder in "Living Free," which is then followed by UK artist Omni Trio's "Trippin' on Broken Beats," a sweet, shuffling dnb-type of groove that incorporates one of my favorite synthesizer sounds of all time: the Korg M1 Organ preset 02, which was famously featured in a bunch of club classics, like Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman." And after that, Germany's Hardfloor, the master manipulators of the Roland TB-303—the bass synthesizer responsible for producing the famous acid squelch sound that kickstarted the whole acid house revolution—grace us with a trip-hoppy collage of different electronic sounds called "Dubdope," which sees them far removed from the hard trance and techno that had made them such dance legends in the first place 😊.
Plus, the kings of the globally-quilted chillout sound, Washington, DC's Thievery Corporation, swing by at the end to deliver the ultra-satisfying "Shaolin Satellite" too.
So, since there isn't a single skip-worthy track on K&D's DJ-Kicks mix, it only makes sense that there wouldn't be one on its corresponding double-12-inch version either. As expected, a terrific, little collection of very well-crafted relaxational vibes here.
Highlights:
Small World - "Living Free (Soundtrack mix)" Omni Trio - "Trippin' on Broken Beats" Hardfloor - "Dubdope" JMJ & Flytronix - "In Too Deep" Shantel - "Bass and Several Cars" Tango - "Spellbound" Thievery Corporation - "Shaolin Satellite"

Title: Pumping For Love
 Artist: Corbis R.
 Label: "No sleep till bedtime..."⁣⁣⁣⁣⠀
Format: Digital
 Release: September 14th 2023
Track list:
01] Pumping For Love
Link: https://nosleeptillbedtime.bandcamp.com/track/pumping-for-love
[nstbt_031] is an absolute banger from Melbourne hard techno producer Corbis R.
Corbis R. is a new name for a familiar face. Formerly a part of the hardstyle DJ/production duo KLK & Ben-e Boy aka K&B, he has been whipping Melbourne's dance floors into a frenzy over the last 14 years.
Now setting his sights on new horizons, and with a string of solid releases already under his belt for Spacecake recordings. You can expect the same high energy, and detailed production quality applied to a new format.
Whilst this may be Corbis R's first solo release for us, this is not his first appearance on our label. Submitting an absolute stormer for the SIUL - The Panic Room [Remixes] compilation last year: https://nosleeptillbedtime.bandcamp.com/track/the-panic-room-corbis-richardson-remix
The thing I love most about this release is how "Melbourne" it sounds.
There is an element there that is unique to this city that we call home. A cocktail of all of the years soaking up the nights filled with ravers and shufflers, rocking out to hard trance, hardstyle and hard dance tunes. A sound that can be felt by those who have lived it.
I know we say this all the time, but we are grateful to be able to work with so many talented artists, and to be able to share their music and stories with you all.
We wish Kale all the best with his new project, and I'm sure there will be much more to hear from him in the coming months ahead
Thank you Kale! 🙏🏻😁

Energy 52 was a German trance music project comprising Paul Schmitz-Moormann and Harald Blüchel. "Café del Mar" is a song first released in 1993 by the trance project Energy 52. It is named after the famous bar located in Ibiza, Balearic Islands, Spain. Almost instantly recognisable by its distinct melody, its popularity is reflected in the countless remixes that have since been created as well as its being featured on hundreds of CD compilations. The main melody of "Café del Mar" is based on "Struggle for Pleasure" by Belgian composer Wim Mertens. The song has charted three times in the UK Singles Chart, all featuring remixes by Three 'N One. It first made number 51 in March 1997, a second release ("Café del Mar '98") featuring a Nalin & Kane remix reached number 12 in July 1998, and a further release featuring remixes by Marco V reached number 24 in October 2002. The song was included on the soundtrack to the 1999 movie Human Traffic. In 2001 it was voted number one in Mixmag's "100 Best Tunes Ever" list. "Café del Mar" became one of the most popular trance songs in the world; its dozens of remixes have appeared on hundreds of compilation albums. In 2011 it was voted number one out of fifty nominated tracks in the 'Top 20 Dance Tracks of Last 20 Years' users poll by listeners of BBC Radio 1. #trance #trancefamily #trancelovers #cafedelmar

NOTE: Since July 2023, I have collected hundreds of artist and song titles of great songs while listening to music on di.fm (Digitally Imported Radio). I am trying to build the largest list collection I possibly can of the best tracks in the dance, trance, edm, club, and remix music genres. These track listings will eventually be reorganized into a master alphabetical compilation list and put on my website at www.artbdt.com as time permits.
I must also note that my schedule has drastically changed in this past week. I may not be able to post another one of these short lists until next weekend, but I will continue collecting these song titles whenever I am able to listen to the music.

My musical Top 10's of 2003
My musical Top 10's of 2003. Yes I did make it out last night.  More on that later perhaps. Did not make it to CC, had a rather low-key evening, but certainly a VERY FUN evening nonetheless. As expected here is my Top 10 CD lists of 2003.  Enjoy
Top 10 CD’s – Full lengths
1. This Morn Omnia - Le Serpent Blanc / Le Serpent Rouge A stunning follow up to  ''7 years of Famine''.  Ant-Zen presents the first part of This Morn 'Omnia's ''Nyan'' trilogy. This disc just floored me with it’s combination of hard techno, four-to-the-floor rhythms, ritual-tribal percussion and breaks, overwhelmed by voice samples. This music is powerful and aggressive, but not overtly nihilistic.  Something you can put on at anytime and instantly fall into the addicting rhythms and song structure.  Disc 2 ''Le Serpent Rouge'' focuses more on the ritual-influenced side centered around the themes of the Zodiac. The music comes off much quieter and more introspective but never calm or soft –more like dark-ambient. CD artwork is phenomenal as well holding some beautiful images shot by (my friend) Alan McClelland of Se7en e-zine http://www.nezzwerk.com/seven/.  Musically diverse, comparable to no other bands out there really.  I hear new elements each time I listen to it.  Easily made #1 for the year.
2. [SITD] – Stronghold Shadows In The Dark seemed to have come out of relative obscurity (save for a compilation appearance on Septic II in 2001) to shoot straight to the top of the elektro genre and straight onto dance floors worldwide!!!  The German duo took the formulas of harsh ebm, futurepop, trance and more, then created their own unique signature on it all.   ''Stronghold'' makes for a fascinating soundtrack of enormous versatility and variety - mixing apocalyptic electro with underground anthems. Tracks like ''Hurt, “Snuff Machinery'', ''Venom'' or ''Rose-Coloured Skies'' have altered and forever changed the blueprint for other acts to follow! Add to [SITD]’s credit the fact that they can write a killer instrumental as the title track ''Stronghold'' (a chilling conclusion to a perfect CD), firmly illustrates and no elektro fanatic should be without this CD.
3. Warp Brothers – Warp Factor Another dynamic German duo who released their CD “Warp Factor” in March of 2003.  Early on in the year, but still mighty memorable. Big Beat meets Trance – yet it should appeal to elektro-industrial fans as well as there’s some serious OOntz included.  Every single beat HARSH and punishing!!!  Every synth, every bassline, every arp-line, everything effected and mangled to a jaw dropping end product that’s instantly addicitve.
4. Seize - The Other Side Of Your Mind Ltd 2CD This UK based bands CD “Lunacy” – released on their own label, effectively caught my attention in 2000.  Preparing their new release Seize also caught the attention of Alfa-Matrix who (with all label releases) issued a Limited edition version of ''The Other Side Of Your Mind'' album ( in a DVD sized box ). Included are the normal CD version, postcards, stickers, and a full length BONUS CD album featuring exclusive tracks.  Their new album reveals a much more mature, up-tempo and club orientated sound, rich with lush modern EBM synths, top rate production and soaring female vocals.  This CD DEMANDS the listeners attention and fans of elektro, futurepop, trance, synthpop, and 80’s influenced euro-dance will quickly get into what is offered across both disc.  And definantly get the limited edition because the bonus remixes from the likes of Implant, Delobbo, Colony 5, Neikka RPM and more are NOT TO BE MISSED!  Completely  captivating with the potential to reach just about every electronic music market (save for the hopeless goth scene) , Seize could also have the potential to crossover into more mainstream markets as well, there just that good and that appealing.
5. Suicide Commando - Axis Of Evil Always knew Johan Van Roy had it in him.  A full-on killer release was inevitable – “Hellraiser” was just a teaser for what was to come.  ''Axis Of Evil'' has been three years in the making and offers 10 tracks of vintage, classic dancefloor assaults that deliver the most grueling of all SC releases, mixing thunderous electro expressions infused with harsh vocals and punishing beats!   I Totally missed out on the limited edition version (which included a DVD) but listeners still need to get their hands on whatever version of this they can.  Sincerely raw, brutal, minimal, and caustic programming.  Johan Van Roy makes great angry music.
6. Glis - Balance Limited Box I found myself constantly listening to this throughout the year.  Diverse, superb, full of emotion, great programming, great production, decent lyrical content , … it’s hard to find any flaws in this disc whatsoever. The limited edition contains exclusive postcards, a poster, and a bonus CD including exclusive remixes.  special guests include Assemblage 23 (additional vocal production & remix), Jennifer Parkin (Ariya), Dominique (Neikka RPM) as well as featured remixes from Delobbo, Implant, Z Prochek and more.   Glis’ music is instantly infectious taking on varied influences that even include IDM and noize, which propels the project beyond JUST the all-to-common sounds of the ebm and future pop genres. Glis provides something more advanced in its quest to explore new territory yet still remains modern sounding enough to hang with the big names like Covenant, A23 and the like.  Glis had a phenomenal year in 2003 with a Euro tour as well as a US tour.  Oh yeah if you didn’t get enough of Glis in 03, well Shaun also contributed music and production duties to Ariya as well.
7. Lights Of Euphoria - Krieg Gegen Die Maschinen Ltd CD The single “True Life” certainly was an attention-getter, marking a return for Lights of Euphoria.  Torben Schmidt is a musician that has immersed himself deeply within the electronic scene from so many angles that he has boundless directions in which to pursue.  The LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES ONLY edition of the new album features 18 TRACKS ! ( 13 songs from the regular album and 5 BONUS TRACKS). Whats interesting about this release is it collects some songs from a varying range of time in the Lights of Euphoria discography, for example “Show me your Tears (Apoptygma Berzerk vs. Industrialheads RMX)” was released 7 cd’s ago on “Beyond Subconsciousness”.  Theirs also Torbens remix of God Module’s “Dyskonnect” included. Odd as these song inclusions may seem,  listening to the CD from beginning to end still makes for a very cohesive whole.  Songs show a variety of influence from straight-ahead nearly simplistic EBM to more intricate future pop stylings.  Also included is the song ''Consequence ( Face Yourself )'' featuring the vocal contributions of Ronan Harris from VNV Nation.  A great CD of varied ideas, tempos and moods making for essential listening.
8. T.O.Y. - White Lights limited edition Always distinctive and unique, they’ve really nailed the whole electro-synth-pop genre and can produce quality results on every release.  They’ve done it again on “White Lights” which includes a bonus cd containing remixes for such bands as In Strict Confidence, 18 Summers (ex Silke Bishoff) and !Bang Elektronika. Also Steffen Keth (DE/VISION) contributed guest vocals for the song "The sky is the limit".  And yeah getting to meet and hang out with Oliver Taranczewski in Detroit this year doesn’t sway my opinion one bit (yeahhhhhh right J )
9  Re.Work - Coma Almost a casualty of the defunct Bloodline label, I was left to wonder if Germany’s Re:Work was ever to release a follow up to their stunning 2001 debut ''Impulse''. There was tours, remix work (Decoded Feedback, Noisex, etc… ) and then finally the eagerly awaited second album ''Coma'' released on the German Scanner label (who also signed Stromkern early on). Moving further away from the Funker Vogt comparisons (the band was discovered by Funker Vogt) the album focuses more on constructing VERY memorable songs that are both melodic and dance orientated with an edge.
10  Negative Format - Cipher Method Where elektro-ebm-trance merge into one -  ''Cipher Method'' brings back the cyber element that bands like Clock Dva, Lassigue Bendthaus, and Electro Assassin explored.  Negative Format continues to push the boundries on every release.  “Cipher Method” will work on the more adventurous dancefloors offering more complex beat and rhythm structures,  dark atmospheric overtones, and a mixture of vocoded and effected vocal passages.   Also great just to sit and listen to as a  further exploration into sound. For body and mind!

German Trip Hop Playlist (YouTube)
Alright, folks, for the past couple Sundays I've been posting playlists comprised of German music from electronic genres that the country tends to be naturally associated with—trance and techno—but this week, to end this little Deutsch-centric foray I've been on, we're getting into some sweet cuts from a genre that Germany's not so typically known for: trip hop.
Now, maybe when you think of German music, you naturally assume some things. And probably because of Kraftwerk and krautrock and techno, you imagine stuff that sounds cold, mechanical, repetitious, and robotic. But this little playlist here, which really isn't even beginning to scratch the surface of Germany's trip hop landscape, should start to disabuse you of your very own wrongly held preconceived notions. All of these tracks here are a blend of smooth, blissful, and relaxing. Clearly and obviously, there’s far, far, far more to German music than sounding like an automaton, but maybe you never really thought about it all that much 🤷‍♂️.
So let's highlight some of these nuggets here, and start with a track that really seems to call back to trip hop's own Bristol, UK origins, when it was basically fusing Jamaican dub and hip hop in order to form sonic syrup in the late 80s and early 90s. The Frankfurt-based duo of Soul Patrol, who only ever released a pair of 12-inches, bring forth "Slow Groove," a sedative that served as their debut track when it appeared on a pair of compilations back in '95. This gem uses a sample that should sound *very* familiar to hip hop heads: Isaac Hayes' "Walk On By," a part of which was famously used in The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Warning," as well as another mid-90s trip hop tune, Belgian group Hooverphonic's "2 Wicky," which got a lot of burn on Pandora back when Pandora was still a big fucking deal. "Slow Groove" basically sounds like it was made by Portishead, but replacing Beth Gibbons on vocals is an American woman named Francesca Harper, who is actually now a world-renowned dancer. And it has a little over 43,000 plays across a few different uploads on YouTube.
Next up, from Berlin, we have a guy named Jiri.Ceiver, who in 1997 released a song called "Ycool" on a 10-inch single as well as his second and final album, Jig, Amble & Lisp, which were both put out on the legendary Frankfurt-based and Sven Väth co-owned Harthouse label. Harthouse had originally started out as a pioneering outlet for hard trance, trance, and techno in the early 90s, but by the latter part of that decade, and before they wound up closing their doors, they had expanded their palette with a bunch more electronic genres. And “Ycool,” a terrific piece of reconstructed trip hop-blues, serves as a sweet example of just how broad that expansion was getting. And it only has 169 plays!
And lastly, we have something beautifully dubby from another Berliner named Christian Kleine, whose 2000 tune, "Bitter Things," first exclusively appeared on a lovely double-disc compilation called Putting the Morr Back in Morrissey, which really had nothing to do with The Smiths' own frontman, other than the fact that a bunch of its songs had a reflective melancholy to them. However, despite "Bitter Things"' own title, this is a song that was really made to sync up with a sunrise. An organic, crunchy, and happy, boom-bappy bop, with cool, dubby effects employed all throughout. Over 36,000 plays across a few different YouTube uploads.
This playlist is ordered as chronologically as possible:
Nonplace Urban Field - "Universe" Jazz Con Bazz - "Wayz of Life" Knowtoryus - "The Revenge of the Bomberclad Joint (Kruder & Dorfmeister session, Part II)" Fon:Kin - "Montininja (Fauna Flash remix)" Hacienda - "Nightmare of Max" Soul Patrol - "Slow Groove (Soul Patrol original vocal)" Beanfield - "Charles (remix)" Jiri.Ceiver - "Ycool" Christian Kleine - "Bitter Things" Lali Puna - "Fast Forward (Flowchart Rmx)"
And this playlist is also on YouTube Music.
So with this start, we have ten personal German trip hop favorites of mine that appear on a handful of compilations that I've collected over the years. Totals at 53 minutes.
And next week we'll be staying in this chilly mode, but we'll be zooming out from Germany ⛄.
Enjoy!
More to come, eventually. Stay tuned!

Title: Marauders [Remixes]
 Artist: SamHard
Label: "No sleep till bedtime..."⁣⁣⁣⁣⠀
 Format: Digital
 Release: December 8th 2023
Track list:
01] Marauders [Original Mix] 02] Disc Error [Original Mix] 03] Marauders [Andress Conde Remix] 04] Marauders [Brune Remix] 05] Marauders [LEZAMAboy Techno Remix] 06] Marauders [MAK Remix] 07] Marauders [SIUL Remix]
Our latest remix compilation comes from Colombian hard techno DJ/producer: SamHard.
Comprised of two original tracks, and 5 remixes from some talented artists who answered the call. This release has many diverse sounds and styles fitting under the hard techno banner.
Samhard is also a Label Manager, and Owner of Hard Party Promotora promoting international artists and local DJs throughout Columbia's thriving techno scene https://www.facebook.com/Hardpartypromoters
He is also a DJ/producer under the name Samuel Bass, focusing on a darker more progressive techno sound: https://soundcloud.com/samuelbass2
Marauders is a driving hard techno track, with a huge bass breakdown and a firm nod to the old school sound from years gone by. Menacing synths and hypnotic builds. It’s not hard to see why the others had so much fun remixing this track.
Disc error keeps the energy and the bpms high. It’s a no fuss schranz track. straight to the point, and filled with acidic stabs and driving percussion.
On remix duties we have some new names and familiar faces.
Andress Conde drops a huge driving schramz remix for his debut on our label. Dark and unrelenting. Be warned!
Followed up by German DJ/producer bringing his high energy and intensity with a dirty schranz remix which is set to smash dance floors the world over.
LEZAMAboy brings his hypnotic acid fuelled dark techno style. Completely mesmerising and trance inducing.
We are honoured to welcome newcomer MAK. Who releases his debut release with us, and it’s an absolute hard techno weapon. You can expect big things in his future.
And back once again is German hard techno DJ SIUL with his uniquely chaotic industrial techno beats. Absolutely pulverising remix, this is heavy!
We are very grateful to be able to finally share this release with you all. It wasn't as straight forward as we were hoping with 2023 throwing so many curve balls. But we made it.
Please feel free to share the release, and also give their artist pages below a follow.
Thank you Sam, and to everyone else involved in this project! 🙏🏻😁
