Twister

Today, I begin the loooong trek into the Black Rock Desert for my 10th year in a row at Burning Man. It's always an ordeal to get out there, then yet another ordeal to survive and thrive for the length of the event. I'm ready though! This year's theme is Metamorphoses. Every year there are several of these twisters that rip across the playa. I usually ride my bike right towards them and let them whip me around the periphery while I take my feet off the pedals and get spun around while taking photos... weeeeee!!! #burningman #industwetrust

Cold Cold Cold by Trey Ratcliff It is cold cold cold here on the South Island of New Zealand, and the snowstorm hit on the exact same day I ran out of diesel to heat the house. I don't really have central heating, as the house warms up with underfloor water pipes that are heated by a big diesel generator. I woke up a few days ago when the storm hit thinking, man, it's really fucking cold...something isn't right. Then I went out to check the tank and it was bone dry... It's taken about four days to get a diesel delivery, so my house is about exactly as cold as the photo you see here! Haha... it's okay... I've got tons of firewood and Wi-Fi. Sun was just setting at Gold Harbour. The sun was slowly fading behind the mountains, casting a beautiful golden glow over Bertrab Glacier and the colony of King Penguins, which numbers about 50,000. This was on the small side, compared to other beaches like St. Andrews Bay and Salisbury plain, with 300,000 and 250,000 respectively. And while looking back at a 1.5 hour time lapse I also shot from this position, that giant male elephant seal barely moved from his position the whole time. The chaos and noise of the colony behind him and he never waked. While the other locations have more numbers of Kings, with Gold Harbour’s cliff faces and glaciers so close to us on the beach, it made for an intimate setting like no other. Ancient Nikko por Trey Ratcliff Por Flickr: Daily Photo - Ancient Nikko I have a bunch of these textured shots (See my Textures Tutorial) that I will be posting over the next few weeks. I showed this one to Jack this evening when he came over, and he seems to like the look as much as I do! This is my first shot from Nikko, Japan. Nikko is famous for all the incredible temples from the Edo period. I woke up early (violently early, let us say) to go out and visit all the sites before the tourists came. You guys know I don't like tourists in the shots... Actually, to tell the truth, I don't like them around at all. Burning Man Rides

On the final night of the temple burn, about 80,000 people ride their bikes out across the desert at sunset to await the final inferno.
