Adrienn Banai: The Rat Lover

I didn't want to post about any of this, but this person forced my hand.

I can't let this person run around on this hellsite anymore.

For those not in the know, this person harasses artists into drawing their husbando: a rat character named "Grey" from the children's series "Larva Island". Sometimes they also harass people into drawing Grey's grandpa, a female version of Grey named "Greyless", Grey wearing Roxanne's dress from "A Goofy Movie", and plenty of parodies of the opening scene of said movie. Like, they subjected one person to draw that same sequence with different characters like 6-7 times. And the "best" part? Sometimes they steal the poor victim's art to claim it as their own. And sometimes, they create edits of them WITHOUT CREDITING THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS. And when they do get caught, they apologize. A lot. But that's only a front to get respect again.

And I was one of their unfortunate victims. This person is weird as all hell; they ship this rat with Pibby (a character that is canonically from a preschool show), Meilin Lee (A hecking 13 year old girl), and Adrienn themselves.

The rat, according to the user, is 15 while the female version of the rest, his girlfriend, is 12.

Adrienn themselves are either 17 or 19.

The fandoms they follow are: -Courage the Cowardly Dog -Friday Night Funkin -Learning with Pibby -Little Nightmares -Turning Red -Anything Disney related (Goofy mostly) -Steven Universe -Made in Abyss -Road to El Dorado -Eddsworld -Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -Super Mario series and, most importantly, Larva.

They have a few on reddit, a few on wikia, one on vimeo, and a few on behance, of all places. They have a long history of harassing users, especially on reddit and wikia. They have the most accounts on Tumblr, with five (two of them are inactive.) The second biggest is wikia, with four. The earliest accounts were on DeviantArt, which makes a lot of sense. Oh, but it gets better. They have uncensored nsfw content on two tumblrs. This is from one of their accounts. I am not going to show you the image, but I'm going to show you the tags:

I mean, I'm glad that they tagged it as "rule 34", but I'm more surprised about how tumblr didn't purge those posts or ban the user entirely. so other users on here are posting about the issues with cohost and since that involves eevee and kara people are immediately jumping to the conclusion that these were bad faith arguments since they're trans... did you guys even look into any of this? there's so much receipts of most of the accusations against eevee. with kara idk. i understand that that's an issue that trans-women face (pedo allegations) but using that as an excuse to say something while not bothering to look into it is stupid.

I haven't seen it, and I don't particularly care for people like that. But it is weird that people jump to that for Eevee in this context, because, the only reason she's relevant with the cohost stuff is because she was being transphobic and cohost decided to do nothing about it.

Hi! I was wondering if you could explain the issue with Alison Weir. I’ve only found condemnation about her on Tumblr (a few on Reddit). Is she regarded as a decent historian? Hello! Others and I have raised issues with Alison Weir's approach here and here (these are mostly focused on Elizabeth of York because that's who I research/read about but Weir has been weird about many other historical women). Her popularity is not a mystery to me because her simplified history takes and simplistic writing is just what's necessary for an extremely prolific book production that keeps her constantly relevant and in vogue — she's always releasing some new book, even if said new book is just a recycled piece of writing she released years ago. Add to her intense productivity a good marketing team that knows how to make her books aesthetically pleasing and that's a winning formula for popularity — many people buy books by appearance alone without any prior knowledge about the book's subject or the author, so that's an advantage Weir certainly has.

She's also popular because she doesn't only publish nonfiction but she dabs on fiction writing too, which gives her double the exposure in history nerd circles. Her novels are incredibly uncreative and dull in my opinion — I have come to regard her fiction as spineless writing because she wants to conform to every conflicting source without actually committing to any single version of a historical figure (which ultimately harms the internal coherence of her characters). When she's not making her character a walking contradiction, she's playing 'safe' and going with the popular narrative of a figure without actually presenting reasons for that. I think her novels are popular because 1. people are always craving content about Tudor/WotR historical figures no matter the quality; 2. her writing is so simple readers without any prior historical knowledge can easily follow the story she's telling — that's good for sales (it allows for a bigger reading base), though I personally find it in bad taste. History is always so much more complicated and interesting and so full of fascinating details!

I've posted a review of a short story here and a review of the first part of her Elizabeth of York novel here. I haven't reviewed more of that book because I found that novel so incredibly boring and again, spineless, I couldn't bring myself to finish part two. Maybe I'll finish part two but it's difficult for me to see myself finishing the entire novel, to be honest.

As to what authors I recommend, it depends on the subject. If you want to learn more about Elizabeth of York I have recced a few books/articles here.

TL;DR: sending asks to corporate social media accounts -- even silly or mocking ones -- is giving ammunition to advertisers, and the more that advertisers stay on [tumblr], the suckier the site will get for us, the users.

basically it goes like this:

Before anything else, you need to remember this: social media accounts owned by for-profit corporations are marketing tools, which means they're advertising. Corporations do not use social media outside of marketing; if you see a corporation using marketing, it is always an ad.

Anything you see from Marvel or Disney or Microsoft on [tumblr], Twitter, Reddit, or whatever?

Even if it doesn't say "sponsored", it's an ad, and that's all it is.

Every meme, silly behind-the-scenes video, apology video, announcement, relatable/personable post? They are ads, and ads are the product of advertisers.

A relatable meme posted by Marvel has more in common with an Avengers trailer than it does with a relatable meme posted by one of your friends, so for the rest of this post I'm going to just talk about corporate social media as advertisers, because that is what they are.

Now, advertisers want as many people as possible to see their stuff. Advertisers are exclusively in the business of grabbing attention.

This means that advertisers don't want to scare people away. Advertisers want their ads to be shown as broadly as possible, and they don't want their ads associated with uncomfortable or edgy things.

"Uncomfortable or edgy", of course, is a double-edged sword; on the one hand, when Sean Hannity defends a pedophile on Fox News, the ad boys will pull their ads, because yikes -- but on the other hand, when sex workers try to exist on [tumblr], the ad boys will also pull their ads, because of a long and stupid history of stigma associated with sex in the western world.

And important to remember: advertisers will give [tumblr] money while they're here, and whoever gives [tumblr] money determines the shape of the platform. (this is why you should blaze posts and do the paid ad-free browsing thing)

So here's where we talk about ✨engagement✨!

Engagement, invented by Sir Francis Engagem in 1836, is one of the banes of social media creators everywhere on the internet. It's less of an issue on Tumblr because Tumblr is a trashfire, but what is relevant here is the fact that engagement gives advertisers the means to make more ads.

If you send asks to Marvel:

Marvel will take that as a sign that people are seeing and engaging with their tumblr account, which means that people are seeing and engaging with their ads, which means that they will want to keep doing it.

since [tumblr] is a platform built on collaborative mechanics -- including reblogging, commenting, screenshotting, and, yes, asks -- unless the ask is truly rancid (and most asks, even mocking ones, are not nearly rancid enough to prevent this), sending anyone an ask is providing them with a means to, for lack of a better term, "make content", which, in Marvel's case, means make an ad.

Sending asks to corporate accounts encourages them to stick around and make more ads, which will lead to them having a firmer position on the platform, which will lead to them getting more control over the platform, which will lead to the platform slowly edging out all the "uncomfortable and edgy" stuff.

Do you like having queer spaces on the hellsite? Do you like having weird art on here? Do you like having bizarre memes and unique site culture? Do you like being able to say things like "kill" and "mental health" and "kung pow penis" and "I want to put Benedict Cumberbatch in a blender"?

Then ignore and block every corporate account you see.

do not engage. do not ask. do not reblog. block block block.

Personal post

So, I've been quietly identifying as asexual for the past five or so years. Quietly, because the only people I've told are my online friends. And even then, I rarely bring it up in conversation or lean into it through icons and symbolism and stuff, even though many of my friends are very proudly pan/bi/ace/trans/non-binary. Part of it was because I just... didn't like being ace. It's kind of an isolating identity, but also because no matter where I looked, I felt like my experience was completely different than every ace community (tumblr, reddit, aven, etc.) Asexual felt right on paper, but talking about it beyond just the broad strokes made it obvious just how different I and most other aces actually understood sexual identity.

Same as aromantic. I didn't ever fully identify as aro but I was aware that it was a possibility, but same problems as above.

Separately, and a few years later, I also came to the conclusion that I have alexithymia. This was because when I get really upset, it feels like there's this physical disconnect between the part of my brain that feels the feels and the part that makes the words. Like, a literal 404 Page Not Found.

Recently though, I had a breakthrough that 1) my alexithymia is probably a lot worse than I originally realized, and 2) that my asexual-ness was related, if not completely stemming, from the alexithymia. I should point out that alexithymia (at least the version I have) is not having no emotions, but not being able to identify, speak, or connect with them. I usually won't realize that I feel sad, or angry, or even happy until I stop to think a bit. And even then, I usually recognize emotions through mental patterns rather than physical ones. It's always "wow I'm arguing with an imaginary person in my head, I must be angry" not "wow my heart's racing and I'm feeling hot, I must be angry."

A part of all that is that I also don't feel compelled to act on my emotions. Maybe this was caused by a coping mechanism for typical life bullshit (feel sad/angry/anxious? Too bad go to school and act normal or else you'll draw unwanted attention.) But that goes for positive emotions too. How am I supposed to recognize desire if the physical sensations that drive it only register as a weird, annoying feeling?

Once I realized this, things clicked into place much more than they did when I first identified as asexual. Identifying as ace made me feel worse, and I only continued to do it because I knew that there was something fundamentally different between what I was feeling and "normal." Restructuring my feelings as alexithymic feels so much better.

Also I feel like this gives me a little more permission to be horny on main. Not that I couldn't while being ace, but... I don't know, it just felt weird to say I was ace and then have my third most popular post in recent history being hornyposting about Warframe.

I'm not entirely sure whether I want to keep identifying as ace. Personally, I think it's valid to have your sexual/gender identity stem from neurodivergence, but whether that's what I want for me is... I dunno. Something to think about in the future. I'll admit though, I don't want to give up our cool flag.

Anyway, thanks to my friends, who are always there for me even though I rarely talk about my feelings out in the open. And anyone who's following me for funny posts who happened to read to the end as well.

What is the deal with Paedon Brown?? I just started watching sister wives and I'm missing a lot of context, buf if his sister is telling the public not to trust much of what he says, I assume something big happened

So I don't know if I have the whole story bc I haven't carved out any time to dive into either Paedon or Gwen's personal videos yet, outside of what reddit and tumblr feed me, but from what I understand:

Paedon's chosen to be very right-leaning socially and politically, and that directly affects Gwen because he openly disagrees with her sexuality and has said so in videos (he's done the same to their trans sibling Leon in addition to deadnaming them and using incorrect pronouns when talking about them). He voted for Trump and per everyone involved (Gwen, Leon, Paedon, parents) he has had really serious arguments and altercations with a lot of family members about that. I think he's also expressed doubt about Gwen's autism diagnosis.

At some point during an argument (not totally sure about the timeline), Paedon slapped Gwen across the face and I guess it scared her enough that she didn't want to be alone with him anymore. Those two also have a history of being kept separate even as younger kids, and I'm not sure if the slap was the cause of that back then or if it was something that happened more recently. Regardless, they just have a history of not getting along very well.

All of the above has put Paedon on bad terms with a lot of his family per some of the parents/siblings. I don't think he has great relationships with many of his siblings from any of the moms currently and per Kody is kind of an 'outsider' right now.

What's weird to me about Gwen saying he's untrustworthy is that a lot of what they both have been talking about as far as their childhoods seems to line up?? Paedon does seem like a dogshit person in many ways but I haven't yet heard anything from him that sounds like a blatant lie or that doesn't have direct supporting evidence, so idk.

Those are just the bits and pieces I've picked up along the way, again I don't think I have the whole story.

Short answer is they're capitalists.

Long answer is it's mainly because they're capitalists (seriously, get a load of this shit) who center a large part of their personal brand around a goal to enact positive change in the world while only loosely defining what that change is, and only enacting it by raising money for any of their million different nonprofits and making themselves richer in the process. They're bad for the same reasons Bill Gates is bad despite pledging to give away all his money or whatever. Nonprofits really aren't fucking great to begin with, and they have a lot of them.

There's also the assault allegations that happened on youtube in 2014 and their responses to said allegations, which weren't exactly great and kinda just completely shirked responsibility for their role in what took place. I know that they did take some measures to make vidcon and other irl events safer, but there's a reason vidcon isn't happening anymore.

Also, the way they tend to get really fuckin weird when responding to any sort of criticism.

Plus, John has just,, said and done some shitty things in the past, and most of this I'd be willing to let slide under "they were younger and I'm sure they've grown since then," but it's pretty obvious that his bad opinions definitely bleed into his writing, and it's kind of concerning when his target audience is teenage girls.

Not to mention, they position themselves as science educators when neither of them have degrees in science or education. I know they work with people who do, but sometimes their "educational content" is just fucking capitalist propaganda. (edit: turns out hank actually does have a STEM degree, but that doesn't change the fact that the "education" they're providing is just thinly-veiled propaganda)

I have used Reddit and Tumblr as my main online social platforms concurrently for over a decade, and I have some advice for our new reddit refugees.

Your blog is your house. You get to post whatever you want. It can be personal, it can be educational, it can be whatever you want at any given time.

The way you fill your feed is mostly by picking people who post and reblog things you like and following them.

Tags are the subreddits of Tumblr. You can follow individual tags for specific topics, or search for them and get all the #baseball or whatever you're into. Following a tag won't put every post so tagged on your dash, just a random sampling of the most popular posts.

Blocking tags is also a very useful tool, especially if someone you follow gets into something you're not interested in or if there's content you find upsetting. If it's a common triggering topic you're likely gonna have to block a bunch of different versions.

There's basically three motives for tagging posts. The first is for people to find or block your post based on the topic. This is big keywords stuff like #baseball or whatever.

The second is for personal organization. These tags will often be fairly unique code words like my own #sword eats for my food blogging posts.

The third is commentary. Only the OP and the person you reblogged from, people who follow you, and people who specifically go looking in the tags will see your tags. So if you have a personal anecdote or commentary to add that you don't know is good enough to attach to all future reblogs, you put it in the tag. I like to add compliments to any art posts I reblog in the tags so the OP sees it.

In addition to reblogs and tags, there's a third way to add text to a post, and that's replies. Replies are the YouTube comments of Tumblr. It's for when you want to yell at a post without actually putting it on your dash. Really popular posts often attract weird RPs, bigots, and people with truly bizarre points of view. It can get a bit wild in there!

Try not to trauma dump on other people's posts because it's generally going into at least two people's inboxes and if a post is bringing up those feelings for you, chances are a lot of people are also feeling that way and it can get pretty rough for the OP.

Use the block function as much as you like! Block people with opinions you don't like, or whose vibes are bad, or who use the colored text that hurts your eyes. This is the hedonism website

This is just advice! Do whatever the fuck you want! If people yell at you, block em! Or not! I'm not the boss of anyone

Really love how, once again, the American side of the internet (not only Americans but a large percentage of them are from the US) found out about a weird custom certain people in a non American country and are now using that to springboard into discussions of some incredibly xenophobic and racist shit.

"Did you know Swedes helped make SLAVE CHAINS? Did you know Swedes ALSO did horrible problematic things in their thousands of years of history??? Man why are white people like this??"

We all seem to have come to the agreement that callout posts on tumblr are a no go and yet here I see people take a Reddit post about a few random families being weird in a country they're not from and spinning it into a complete diatribe as to why Sweden is a bad country, actually. And that the weird customs of a few random individuals on reddit represent the ENTIRE country and how that custom is bad and how therefor the country is bad and also here are all the bad things they've done since 1000BCE or whatever.

I'll answer your questions, because I have done more research. (that other devianart account gave me way more information than I have ever needed. my poor eyes...)

Is it a fetish? The Goofy Nightmare stuff probably. Mostly because it involves transformation. They're also obsessed with body horror and gore, as well as some other stuff that tumblr would probably throw the ban hammer at. (Please don't make me explain that stuff. It's creepy as all hell.) The rat isn't the only character they're obsessed with. They're also obsessed with the Cat Thieves from Courage and Roxanne from "A Goofy Movie".

And is it a language barrier thing or they just don't care? It's both. English is not their first language, obviously. I'm guessing they might also be autistic, which, after looking through their deviantart accounts, seems to be the case.

I'm planning to have a reptile/insect keeping room one day because I love them so much. I have literally told my girlfriend I rather have a blue tegu than a dog. I don't really like furry things all that much if I'm being honest, I relate a lot more to the types of animals people claim are unable to love. Like yeah they probably don't get the burst of oxycotin that humans get about things, but getting a lizard or snake to trust you enough to be held without pitching a fit is amazing!! They're demonized so much in media and I adore them. My main special interest is also sharks so take that for what you will. I relate a little too much to animals that people make out to be "evil".

I also have a big interest in psychology. My brain is ten different levels of fucked so I kinda like doing research into how brains normally function or hell, even how my brain functions. Like the fact that people with schizophrenia are (I think) 80% more likely to experience insomnia than the average person! I just thought I was bad at sleeping but no there's a reason for it! But I'm also a big fan about the science behind human sexuality. I won't get too into the facts of it cuz a lot of it is NSFW, but looking a the science behind getting it on and how it affects the brain and how fetishes and kinks form, ITS SO COOL. I also collect vintage erotica and gay porn because of this gkjdkjlkfldkgl.

I also just generally have a big love for queer history, learning about the aids crisis and the struggles that our community has faced but also just the fact that we've ALWAYS been here... It makes me feel less alone.

And like the last main thing I'm into is spirituality type stuff. I'm actually a certified pagan priest irl, but my disabilities and life circumstances have made me need to take a really big step back from the work I've been doing. But I've always fueled my work in this with the fact I have seen SO MANY people do it the wrong way, that I want to be a guiding force in doing it the right way.

Besides that, I'm really big into the punk anarchist scene, I like the vulture culture community on tumblr here and have a few specimens myself, I build legos and models a lot, I like art (obviously), I'm learning how to do leather, metal, and wood working, and also building costumes or restoring old clothes/shoes. I like music and singing a lot now that my voice has dropped from testosterone, I play Minecraft and the Sims a lot in my free time, I'm not big on video games but I'm trying to get into TF2 again. I'm getting pretty good at the Pokemon Trading Card Game, as well as Magic the Gathering (Magic is much slower than Pokemon TCG if I'm being honest, that game is complicated.)

To be honest most of what I watch on youtube is documentaries, food reviews, and reddit videos, haven't found any youtubers I'm particularly into. Honestly, I spend most of my time scrolling through tumblr and listening to rock music because I'm two weeks away from finally getting to go home after getting stuck in Texas for seven months and I'm kinda stuck in wait mode. Hopefully once I'm back in Chicago, I'll be doing a lot more hobby wise. I might even share some of it here if I get my old camera back.

But yeah, that was a big old ramble, I know it's weird for me to be on the fandom website and not be in any fandoms but it honestly takes a LOT for me to get into series of any kind. 100% of the series or fandoms I'm "into" it just cuz I have an alter from their source. This is a bit of a long story, but I promise all of the lengthy exposition is necessary to properly deliver the ending. This is the story of how, with no human intervention at all, technology played an elaborate prank on me.

So, today, I looked up a website on my work laptop in incognito mode, and something happened that I've never seen before - it was blocked for adult content by something called Sophos.

The website I tried to access is an extremely innocuous and obscure website that sells dolls (I am a doll collector), and absolutely no one could ever accuse it of containing even the tiniest hint of adult content. So even though I know I can defend myself against that accusation with ease, it's still an potential record of me doing something blatantly unrelated to work, and I start to freak out, wondering if the bosses will be alerted, if all my browsing history is perhaps being relayed to them. I need to know more about these Sophos.

As I frantically Google to find out if I could be in trouble, some of my worst fears are confirmed. This software doesn't track all of your browsing history, but it logs the incident if you attempt to access something blocked, and all of these events are viewable from a central database.

Now, I'm no angel when it comes to not screwing around on company time. Admitting to this doesn't paint me in a very good light, but I imagine not many people can afford to throw stones about this particular vice. In incognito windows on this work laptop, I've browsed Reddit and Tumblr, I've read stories on AO3, I've worked on my sometimes-NSFW fanfic. I'm a loser with a poor attention span, what do you want me to say? As long as my work gets done it's not the worst thing in the world.

So in addition to the fear for my good standing as an employee, I start to feel sick. What could the information contained in this software reveal? It could expose me as a serial timewaster - enough to get me reprimanded on its own, or worse - but it could also rub a lot of salt into that wound by revealing my very embarrassing niche interests to my bosses, making me look perverted in some way, or even the near-fatal humiliation of leading them to discover my fanfic somehow!!!

When I am able to find the Sophos application and open it, it's not as bad as it could be - there's no AO3 on there, no Tumblr or Reddit or Google Docs, nothing but the doll website that seems to relate to my personal interests - but it certainly doesn't look good. I scroll through the "event" log, and it's not just my attempt to access the doll website that is in there, but 18 events, and they all have my name attached! The bosses are going to see all of this! A large amount of them seem to point to Google Translate. Weird and unsettling but... doesn't necessarily sound like something bad if the bosses were to see it. But there is one event that sounds terrible, and it shows up repeatedly.

Apparently I tried to access something on "tse2.bing.explicit.net". That sounds damning. And when I look up that domain to find out what it means, my suspicions are confirmed. While there are certainly far worse domains that could show up in the incident log, this is undeniably bad.

I try to think this through. I've never deliberately used Bing for anything - not only that, but some of the logged access attempts included a day when I called out sick, a time 2 hours before my shift, and a time 90 minutes after my shift. If I ever got confronted about this, I could easily prove it wasn't really me. Whatever this is, it's not my fault. But just the same, it looks very bad.

(I even start to develop paranoid thoughts - were the events that occurred when I wasn't in the office somehow logged from my home laptop? Am I being spied on through my work Gmail account or something? No, of course, that makes no sense. Unless...)

I sit outside on my break, texting with my long-distance best friend just to vent about the horrible situation I'm in, feeling vaguely ill. Oh my god, should I just quit my job right now before having to face this humiliation? Should I just throw myself in the river?

One thing is for sure - I have to know what I'm up against. I have to know what this URL leads to when typed in, whether it's something that I actually did access myself, whether it could humiliate me utterly or whether I could say with confidence, "that wasn't me!" when I'm inevitably called to trial.

So when I go back to my desk, I sit and painstakingly type in the full URL to my phone browser, a long, long string of numbers and letters, because there is no way to copy and paste the text from the Sophos app. The first time I click "go", holding my breath... I get an error. I look over the string carefully like I'm doing my taxes, fix a missing digit... and get a different error.

I check each and every number and letter one by one, even making sure the cases match in case that makes a difference. Finally, after several minutes of trying, I get it exactly right.

I saw a clip from this video pop up in my Reddit notifications, which is weird because I've never gotten involved in any subreddit where this was a topic. In all honesty, the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard drama is not a rabbit hole I've ever had enough interest to go down. However, I have seen the topic pop up on my tumblr feed from time to time, almost always in the form of posts defending Depp against Heard, so I confess to wanting to chime in with a link to the video just to see how those posters would react to it. I have yet to watch it myself.

I've liked Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and a number of other roles, whereas I don't even remember seeing Heard in any role other than that redheaded chick from the Aquaman movie. It also seems that the court of public opinion has turned against Heard in favor of Depp. However, I wouldn't know how much of that is due to the actual evidence and how much of that is due either to culturally ingrained misogyny or Depp simply being more popular as an actor. It's true that the more common stereotype is that the man is the abuser, but there are enough people like the "men's rights activists" who make a big deal about women abusing men that I can believe that's also been an influence on public opinion.

Conclusion being, I don't know yet whom to believe here.

That all being said, from what little I have read about their off-screen behavior, both Depp and Heard sound like disturbed people. Depp does have a history of substance abuse, and I have read snippets of stories about him attacking people other than Heard. On the other hand, Heard taking a dump in their bed is just plain nasty. It wouldn't surprise me much if what's actually going on between those two is a weird mutual form of abuse, or if they're just a couple of unhinged individuals who have spent way too much time in close proximity to one another.

Whomever we decide is the bigger "bad guy" in that debacle, I personally think both Depp and Heard should get some serious help and stay out of Hollywood for a while.

I think the funniest thing about fe3h is how much people hate these characters. The game has some serious writing issues, but even ignoring that, I still don’t understand the rage a lot of people have. I like Edelgard and Dimitri even though I side with El’s philosophy. I dislike Rhea the most but don’t hate her, she’s just fucking nuts. People will literally compare Edelgard to hitler, which is very inaccurate and also doing way too much. Seriously, the holocaust isn’t a light comparison to make toward anything. Be accurate at least. It’s not even a tumblr problem it’s everywhere, youtube, Reddit, etc. No side is totally right or wrong, but people will jump through hoops to bash/support someone.

Edelgard did some morally dubious things and better writing would’ve had someone call her out. Like I understand why, but the people she has around her are seriously messed up, though I understand that she has to play the field. People think that El should be able to enact continent wide change without war, but peaceful means have rarely worked throughout history. Maybe it could’ve been nice for the three house leaders to join up and strong arm Rhea into retiring and takedown TWSITD, but that’s a writing flaw. Like slavery didn’t end peacefully. Also, TWSITD has nukes. I don’t think El had that much power over them, clearly. A real discussion on Remire village would have been a great support.

Dimitri is a mass murderer who killed indiscriminately. Like everyone is, but I really didn’t want to kill those thieves. Still love him, but he was creeping me out. The blue lions are my babies the way the black eagles are, but it’s weird that Dimitri is okay with a lie being told to the populace. Sothis hasn’t been doing anything for like a millennia. That whole convo pre Enbarr was so bad. El could have been forthcoming with something, anything. Dimitri just seemed to be on the opposite side because.

The church is shady and built on multiple lies. Rhea has gone through some serious stuff but she has done and enabled a lot of harm. I understand her grief, but I don’t think it warrants a fake religion, upholding or at least not stopping the crest system, being able to execute people instead of the local rulers doing it, child soldiers, experimentation with the end goal of replacing the person with Sothis, and revising history. I don’t think Rhea is evil, she just doesn’t change anything? Or really just upholds crappy systems instead of grieving.

I don’t know what hate has been thrown toward Dimitri, but the boy has schizophrenia and psychology doesn’t exist.

Haven’t played verdant wind yet, but I think “it’s the 12th century” is still a pretty good catch all excuse.

I admit bias here, I have nothing good to say about Rhea. Woman is creepy. I do like Cyril, Flayn, and Seteth though.

If these characters were perfect, there would be no story. They all have flaws and make mistakes. Each have a valid perspective, well maybe not Rhea

The only characters I can see people justifiably hating are Sylvain and Ingrid. A sexist, womanizing creep, whose depth doesn’t negate that, and a racist. (Okay, that’s just pure bias) Ingrid was really justifying genocide and basically called Dedue, “one of the good black people”

At the end of the day, this game is great for discussion, but these characters aren’t real. Like some heated debate is fun, but a lot of you seem to take this personally.

Edit: if you are replying to this post arguing for something, I do not care. None of these characters are uwu babies and it’s fine to disagree. That is the point of this post. I don’t care if you hate Edelgard and want Rhea to curb stomp you, or vice-versa, just stop insulting each other and making weird arguments.
