Suddenly they were aware of sounds their earbuds, earrings, and ear-surrounds had protected them from: car engines, emergency sirens, truck airbrakes, the rustles and shuffles that indicated the existence of other people. The awareness became torture.

Fun Fact : Both Seinfeld (1989-1998) and The Simpsons (1989-20??) only have one episode released in the 1980s. And that's their 1989 pilots (1x01 The Seinfeld Chronicles & 1x01 Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire). That is if you don't count the Simpsons (eat my) shorts from The Tracey Ullman Show (between April 1987 and may 1989).

What are your top five television shows of all time?
In no particular order:
M*A*S*H
I’m watching it right now in MeTV. It’s one of my comfort shows. My family always watched it when I was a kid. My dad loved it because it reminded him of his days as a medic in WWII.
The Simpsons
I haven’t kept up with the later seasons but I watched it religiously from day one (yeah, I remember the shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show, I’m that old, lol). I quote The Simpsons on a daily basis and can have entire conversations with friends using only Simpsons references.
Star Trek: the Next Generation
I grew up watching the original series and TNG debuted the year I graduated from high school. I loved it from the get go. Another show I quote often. Darmok and Jalad at Tenagra.
The X Files
The first fandom I wrote fic for. I shipped Mulder and Scully so hard! Haven’t watched an episode in years but I remember writing to my pen pal who introduced me to the show every week to debrief on the latest episode.
Futurama
Another show I quote all the time. Every time it gets rebooted I squeal. Good news, everyone!
Honorable mentions to King of the Hill, The Big Bang Theory, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Mandalorian, Northern Exposure, Call the Midwife, and probably a dozen more I’ll think of as soon as I post this.
Thanks to @rhoorl for the tag!

rewatching season 1 again so soon after the new episode is honestly kind of jarring, it's so different in so many subtle ways
like this is obviously the same show, it's not like we started with Seinfeld and somehow ended up in Criminal Minds or anything, but it's a lot rougher around the edges, in terms of the writing, animation, and characterization, it's a lot simpler, more rudimentary.
best way I can describe it, it's like going back to seasons 1-2 of the simpsons (not the tracy ullman shorts, that's a bit too far) after watching something from season 6-8, or playing king's quest 5-6 (not 7 or 8, again, too far) and then playing the original again.

Hans Moleman is one of the oldest Simpsons background characters, as a slightly older, off-model version of him appeared in 1989 in a short on the Tracey Ullman Show, before the Simpsons even got their own series.
