This is kind of a harebrained idea I've considered for a long time, but I think the Hero's Shade is actually Dark Link from OoT. Not actually Link. So I'm going to use that for the Bad Moon AU.
There's a lot of weird things about the Hero's Shade that fall into place if he's actually Dark Link.
1) He's definitely not a Stalfos, his body is not made of bones, just translucent flesh.
2) If anything, he looks closest to the other ghosts in Twilight Princess, except he has a red eye instead of green.
3) Unlike those ghosts, he only shows up in the light world as a wolf. This is weird! He doesn't even show up as a wolf in the dark/twilight world, just the light world, the opposite of what it should be! He's only a person in this weird foggy not-real room.
4) Remember where you fight Dark Link? A weird foggy not-real room?
5) Dark Link who also has red eyes and is translucent (until he gets mad and turns opaque black)
6) Twilight Princess is very clear that the holders of the courage and power triforce turn into animals in the twilight (Wisdom remains human and Zelda gives that to Midna which is why she can hang out in the light world in the latter part of the game despite being of twilight).
7) Again, it doesn't make sense that the Shade would be a wolf in the light world... unless he's actually some sort of dark spirit forced into animal form by the light.
8) Dark Link has a history of showing up, and forcing you to git gud (or cheese him). That's also the Hero's Shade's job.
9) This all kind of fits with Twilight Princess' theming of switching around light and dark. Ganondorf wields the light weapon used to execute him. Link is a dark beast, etc.
So in Bad Moon, Link decides to go back to the water temple after Majora's Mask and the War of Eras. He feels bad about killing that spirit and really wants his longshot back. This time he doesn't bring a sword and uses the Song of Storms to free Dink (he's not stupid, he's still got Din's Fire and a bunch of potions in case things go bad). Dink is kind of him and kind of not him. Link has a bad habit of repressing his fears and regrets and Dark Link brings them forwards. He's not evil though.
Because Link is still marked by the dark magic of Termina, he can dump enough dark magic into Dink to let him stay human around him. But the rest of the time he's a white wolf. By the time Twilight Princess happens Link is out of the picture but together they planned to help out the next hero. Dink also gets to scare the shit out of another green kid, his favorite thing in the world to do.

New Zelda idea!
Ok, so this idea has kind of been simmering in my head but it’s getting entertaining now so I’m sharing it.
OC Zelda and Link!
Princess Zelda is a bold and beautiful young woman trying to prepare for ruling her kingdom. She is famous of her commanding personality, for her magical strength which comes as easily as breathing, and for being decisive. When a prophet speaks of impending doom and monster attacks are on the rise, Zelda goes to the Temple of Time with sacred artifacts to utilize the Triforce and stop the darkness before it can start.
However, when she tries to touch the Triforce it shatters into three pieces.
Zelda is stupefied and horrified. Why would it do such a thing? The Triforce only splits for those who are unworthy, and she of all people is freaking worthy ok???
But she isn’t. She’s left with only one piece: Power.
Humiliated but not defeated, she decided that she must seek out the bearers of the other two pieces so they can bring peace to the kingdom. This causes friction with her mother, who has been trying for years to reel her daughter’s pride in.
Zelda: I have to seek them out so I can fix this! Queen: You can fix this by fixing yourself. The Triforce deemed you unworthy, incapable of handling such a task. Zelda: Are you saying that I’m incapable of this? Queen: The goddesses are saying you are incapable.
Least to say, their relationship is a bit strained.
On her journey, she seeks out young men named Link. Legend says that was the hero’s name, and clearly he probably has a way to either help her find the missing Triforce pieces or he bears one of them.
Of course, the problem is that half the kingdom names their sons Link.
Zelda naturally thinks she can figure this out with her powers, so the first Link she finds she basically chaotically strong arms into joining her.
Zelda: So your name is Link, right? Link: Uh… yes, Your Highness. Zelda: Perfect! You’ll help me with my quest. Link: Um… I’m not exactly a hero, Your Highness. Zelda: Nonsense! I can sense the magic within you. You’re stronger than you know. Now, come along, destiny is calling! There is darkness looming and we must stop it. Link: I’m, uh, a masseuse. Zelda: Link: Zelda: Well I could use a massage anyway, so come on!
So Zelda and her legendary masseuse travel across the land seeking other Links, though none of the others seem to stick like the first one does. Zelda can sense that there’s something different about him, though she doesn’t know what. Maybe the fact that he’s Gerudo makes a difference? Meh.
Anyway, they eventually end up in the Lost Woods because legend claims that the Master Sword is there. Link’s not about this place, naturally, but the pair goes in. They find a dungeon and both nearly die while screaming and holding each other because Zelda relies solely on her magic and Link is… a masseuse. But just as they’re about to be killed a man comes in and saves them. He escorts them out, alongside his trusty doggo, and bids them adieu despite Zelda asking him eighty thousand times who he is and if his name is Link.
Yeah, his name is Link. No, he won’t go on your awesome Quest To Save the World. He and doggo are happy in the Lost Woods, thanks. But Zelda is determined, and poor Masseuse Link gets dragged into her schemes to try and recruit Mystery Link. He’s a fighter and she can sense something about him too.
Long story short, Zelda has the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf Gerudo Link has the Triforce of Courage, and Actual Mystery Link has the Triforce of Wisdom. Zelda has to learn to become a better, more well rounded person to be able to wield all three pieces. Link the Masseuse has to learn to face his people’s past and his legacy. Link the Wanderer has to learn to love life again.
Anyway. Yeah.

So what if… 👉👈 I made all these Link OCs and didn't know what to do with them, so I decided to make them all meet or something idk and this is a meet the squad kinda post...?
Keeping this unbelievably abridged, they'll probably get their own individual posts or somethin' Garo Mask- I feel like I introduced this man so many times. But this guy? Honestly he's the only Link here actively fighting both Ganondorf and Zelda by the end of his story. Crow- He lost his Zelda and she gave him the Triforce of Wisdom before she went and the Zelda who replaced her is holding the Triforce of Power (Gan has Courage, what fun a Ganonfriend!) also he is in fact a bird sometimes. Doctor- He has the full Triforce but at the cost of being held hostage at the castle for like a century being used as a power source before Ganondorf unknowingly freed him. The process dyed his hair and fingers from so much use so he hides his hands. Semi-evil Zelda since it was her ancestor who did that to him but she has the thought of getting him back to continue more and more often Neon- The man, the beloved, the reluctant, what can I say Nightlight- Unfortunately… I havent really got his back story yet, so he's just here to hang out? Snake (and Mint)- A baby boy! He's just a lil guy! His Hyrule isn't in any real danger though Ganondorf, the mongoose lookin mf, does snap and whine a lot at Zelda, owl coded Queen beloved Earth- one of the newer ones, this guy is just tired af. He is just the princess's body guard because there's already a Hero running around, thats what happens when you wake up in a completely different era after a long nap trapped in the ground Plants- Small baby, shy child. His Hyrule has absolutely no problems fr fr. Him, Zelda, and Ganondorf all hang out together regularly via them visiting him. He is the forest sage after all, he doesn't want to leave the temple grounds for anything. Just in case. Wrangle- Ah, he falls in with Nightlight where Im not entirely sure of a story for him yet. But! He's the only one here besides Snake who has a companion! Bonnie is such a lil sweetheart!

Fandom‧˚。゚・° 。✎ Legend of Zelda (linked universe)
Pairing‧˚。゚・° 。✎ Yandere!Platonic!Linked universe x Magic Triforce!Reader
Word count‧˚。゚・° 。✎ 5177
Summery‧˚。゚・° 。✎ This is for a request. You used your piece of the triforce to teleport yourself to safety and landed right by the boys. They took you in and have you travelling with them.
Misc‧˚。゚・° 。✎ mild yandere behavior, Written from the boys perspective, reader doesn't want to go home, mild drowning mention, mild mentions of reader not liking their home life before, the boy's see another triforce user and immediately decide they'll die for you.
The triforce of power, courage, wisdom, and Magic. The fourth and often overlooked one. Hidden in the space in the middle of the triforce. The part that never truly shines. The times in history when the piece is active are hardly written in historical texts. Few have been known to wield it. Less than that understand what it does. The powers it gives are unknown and it works as if by magic itself.
Many have theorised that empty space in between all three represent the empty chaos that was made by the three. Others say that it represents the will of where all three parts of the triforce meet. Others argue it's the parts the three did not claim. The only thing we do know is what we don't know. It is recorded that the users have magical abilities that don't fall into any of the other categories.
Few have claimed it and even less have seen it in action.
. . .
"How much longer is left on this boat?" Sky asked. He hung his head over the railing and stared down at the water. His stomach had been doing flips nonstop since the trip started. All he could do was bite down and wait. Time put a hand on his shoulder to calm the man. He had been hanging by the railing all day and several of the others had placed bets on whether he was going to barf or not.
"It can't be much longer now. Just hold steady." Sky looked behind him. Past Time to see Warrior and Four staring. They were talking to each other. He didn't know what they were saying but it was probably about him. Giving him a hard time over his sea sickness no doubt. No one had any sympathy for the resident flyer. He wished they'd give him a break. Soaring a sea of clouds and a literal sea were so different.
"If it's much further can’t we just-" Sky was cut off. A sound came from the air. A loud shot rang out. Somewhere between a loud boom and the crack of a whip. Wind immediately hit the deck and called for everyone to do the same. It sounded like cannon fire and the pirates' instincts took over.
The rest of the group got ready and looked around. It was only Time, Sky, Wind, Four, and Warrior on the deck. They all waited and listened. There was no source for the noise. It sounded like it came from the sky itself. There were few clouds around and nothing could be seen in the great blue above. Not even a bird was flying overhead.
A minute passed and everyone started to calm down. There was nothing to be found. No explanation for what just happened. With this group nothing could be called random but nothing had changed. No monsters swarmed the deck and the nerves slowly faded. It was quiet again. Sky looked to Time who gave him a look that said he had no clue.
Another mysterious sound hit right as Time turned around. An ominous wailing sound came from the sky. This time it was closer. Both parties turned to look. Nothing happened for a spare second, until a petal. Delicate and blue appeared from thin air and fell. Slowly wafting down into the ocean.
Sky watched it fade into the blue below. It was clear this strange petal was because of the sound that came before. First the thunder crack, then the wailing, and now this. Time joined him by the railing and Sky leaned over. Standing on the wood to raise him so he could get a better look.
"Don't fall in." Time said. He put a hand on Sky’s back to support him just in case he tipped over.
"I'm not going to-" Sky was cut off again as someone fell into the water before him. It all happened too fast. A blur of blue and a string of music before the person fell into the waves below. He tried to reach out a hand to grab them and catch them but he failed to.
Time Threw himself against the railing. He would have thrown himself over the edge if it weren't for his armour. He was still wearing plate mail. He couldn't go into the water. If he did he would be dragged down by the weight of it all. Instead he turned around and called out something incoherent. Warrior and Four were already rushing forward.
“Wind stop the boat!” Warrior bellowed as he threw off his extra garments. His scarf, rings, and cloak would only get waterlogged and drag him under. He threw himself over the railing. Diving into the waves below.  Disappearing along with whoever else was there. Quick to action and to throw himself into the line of fire was he.
Sky just watched, a bit embarrassed he didn't know how to swim as he stood helpless. He looked to Time who was in the same boat. Neither of them could swim, not well for Time’s case. Four looked around frantically. Hoping for some loose rope that he could use to pull them up with. He saw someone fall and knew they would need help. He grabbed some rope off of the deck and passed it to the other two standing there. They each grabbed on and started lowering it into the water.
“I can't stop it but I'll try!” Wind yelled back. He turned the wheel hard and turned left to circle the spot where Warrior jumped in. Twilight Came onto the deck confused and looked around. Wild and Hyrule were below the deck cooking and checking supplies. The trip wasn't supposed to take more than a day unless conditions worsened. It looked like it just got worse.
Warrior surfaced from the waves holding a child in his arms. She looked to only be about ten or twelve years old. She would be ok but they had to get her out now. Who knows how much water got into her lungs while the others just stood there. He looked up at the others who were shouting at him to grab the rope. He took it and tied it around the unconscious kid.
“Pull her up first!” Warrior called. He could wait until they got her to safety. The salt water burned his throat but he didn't mind. This is what he trained for.
“No point in arguing.” Time muttered. They could have pulled up both, but he knew it wasn't something Warrior would even consider. They brought the girl up and untied her. As soon as that was done they threw the rope back down. Time laid her down on her back. They would have to get Hyrule to look her over for healing.
Sky got down on one knee and rested her hand against the girl's forehead. It didn't do anything. There was nothing he could do. He wasn't close to knowing how to help with these types of wounds. He felt useless. He saw that fall first. Was arguably the closest. It was right in front of him. Sky wanted to catch you but it all happened so fast and he didn't know what to do. You just fell and all he could do was watch.
Just like what happened with Zelda when the tornado pulled her down to the surface.
“She’ll be ok.” Sky spoke quietly under his breath. It was mostly for himself but the other two could hear. The kid seemed to be breathing a bit slow. She looked to be sleeping but when she fell she surly inhaled some water. Sky felt useless again as he realised he never learned what to do in a situation like this. He couldn't swim or help around the boat. Well, there was something he could do. Carrying her like a princess he picked her up in both arms.
“Go take her to Hyrule.” Four watched Sky walk by Twilight and down into the lower levels. Sky didn't say anything in response. Never acknowledged the other two still working to pull Warrior up. Twilight followed Sky back down and Wind was still at the wheel. Sky didn't have to say anything, he was helping the kid, but watching him carry her off struck a chord. A mystery was a foot and they all were thinking the same thing. How to get to the bottom of it.
The wind picked up in a sudden blast. Its roaring thunder shook the mast and brought them to the end of their turn. Now they were in roughly the same spot when they started. Wind had used his windwaker to correct his sudden turn. He looked to the others who were too far away to what hoping they'd say something. It was ridiculous to stay quiet while the captain was so obviously trying to figure out what was the hot topic. He called down to the group below. Warrior and Time looked over while Four followed Sky back down.
“You go below deck and get dry.” Time smiled and smacked Warrior on the back. The captain smiled and nodded. “I’ll go talk to Wind and fill him in on what happened. Send someone back up when we figure out what went wrong.”
“Is she ok?” The captain yelled.
“She will be,” Time said. Already deciding that he would make sure she was ok. There was no other option. “She will be.”
. . .
“Thank you.” The kid placed her bowl down. It was dried lentils with some dried meat served. dry bread. The water they had was clean but The rancher gave you some milk instead. You ate everything down. Even went back for seconds. Wild was happy you liked his cooking and Hyrule was beside himself with your recovery. Wild picked up your plate. Moving to give you another helping. “Oh! I'm not hungry anymore- thank you though.”
He nodded and put the ladle down. Carefully eyeing you to make sure you weren't just turning down the hospitality. Didn't seem the type or get upset over others sharing. He was just happy you enjoyed it. It seemed like you needed it. From what you told the others about your journey before meeting them you were mostly on your own.
You did not travel far. Being alone on the road was tougher than you expected but that was alright. You’re safe now. You had told your story of how you had created that accident that sent you over. It all made sense from what they knew. Legends were unclear as to how the triforce worked. regardless, you were too young to be all by yourself.
“If you want anymore just let one of us know.” Hyrule commented. Kids need their food to grow. Hyrule had done what he could for you. Not much water had made its way to your lungs. You have been lucky. Healing wise there was little to be done besides patch up small cuts and bruises. A mixture of travelling on the road and childish mistakes had landed you with a few injuries. In his expert opinion you would be fine.
The fall from earlier had left you exhausted. It wasn't late enough for anyone else to be sleeping, but it brushed up against you. Taking hold and slowly dragging you under as you stretched and yawned. Twilight moved his cloak over to cover you. The fur was warm. Sky glared at Twilight. He was going to offer you his sailcloth but wasn't quick enough. The rancher didn't even acknowledge the other man. He was too busy keeping a close eye on you.
You laid your head against his shoulder. Settling in for a spell. It was warm here. Twilight ran a hand over your head. This reminded him of the kids in Ordon. The young ones he used to care for and protect. He kept them safe even when the twilight invaders tore through the land. It was good news that you were awake and ok. Warrior did a great job pulling you up, but if only he was there sooner. Maybe he could have helped as well.
There was still a pit in his stomach. The idea of you being put in danger because no one was there to protect you, or even to offer you aid made him rage. No kid should be left alone to fight for themselves. It was fortunate that you fell here. This had to have been an act of fate. A blessing for the group.
Sky was sending daggers Twilights way. Hyrule and Four sat between the two of them. Separating Sky from the sweet soul who had crashed into their group. He was sitting closer but when he got up to go retrieve his sailcloth from his pack hsi spot was stolen. Hyrule could be excused because he was the healer, but the other two had no excuse! Even if the rancher was great with kids.
A twinge of guilt and wounded pride, along with jealousy hit him and he tugged off a piece of bread. Biting into it to eat away his guilt. He had to get up again to go talk to Wind. He was stuck up on the deck steering the ship. It wasn't good to leave him all alone but everyone wanted to stick by the new member.
Warrior and Sky had promised to head back up to relieve him of duty. Wind still had to eat after all. Sky  just had to finish eating. Normally he couldn't stand to be below deck. It was uncomfortable. Caves, caverns, or anyplace that hid him from the sky. It caused some small part of him to get claustrophobic. Plus he needed the fresh air.
In truth, in this moment, he dreaded going back up. He was eating slowly, drawing out the time he had left just so he could keep an eye on you. The others would do a good job watching over you he knew that. It was just so frustrating. Watching you fall when he was right there. Maybe if he was faster, maybe if his body was better at preventing calamity instead of just fighting it he could have made sure you never got hurt.
He ate the rest of his food in silence. The captain was already done eating and was waiting for him to be done. Once finished Sky gestured to him and they both got up to leave. Putting their plates with the rest to be cleaned when the meal was over. They went up to the deck in silence. Everyone was silent the moment you laid your head down. Protecting the peace so you could get your rest.
Even with what you explained about your triforce it was hard to figure out exactly what it did or what its properties were. You didn't look like someone ripped right out a page of legends. You looked like them. Back when they all first stepped out for their adventures. Quiet, innocent, and unaware of all the dangers that came from having the triforce linked to you. It was a long and dangerous road ahead and they only found each other after they had passed through it all. You however, were only beginning. It didn't have to be like that for you.
Everyone here had carried with them the burden of being chosen by the goddesses and the triforce they created. They all knew how heavy the weight was for someone so young. You were a child growing up and now you had a whole new world thrown on top of the one you were still trying to navigate. The weight wouldn’t crush you, it never did, but carrying it never got easier. You just learned to manage it better.
Not to mention that this was without the issue of people trying to take the triforce piece from you. Hunting you down or having others do it for them. Always knowing that without the support of the kingdom it would be all the harder. You didn't have Zelda to help. You were alone. No older than Wind or Hyrule when they started their adventures. You were a child.
Not only did every single one of them there have a duty to protect those who couldn't protect themselves, they were all in the same spot as you at one point. Sacred, alone, and fighting to keep themselves and others safe. It was true they didn't know what your powers were. That didn't matter. You had passed out from overextending yourself. Teleporting somewhere safe using your powers was impressive. It also would have killed you if they weren't right there.
It wasn't blind luck. You had sensed that it was a safe place and had tried to put yourself onto the deck but it was too difficult. The boat was moving too fast and you couldn't see what was going on. Your powers had pointed you to them. Your life would never be the same. They would keep you with them. Train and guide you and keep you safe from everyone.
The goddesses put you here for a reason. You were their charge now.
They would keep you safe. They would protect you.
Footsteps ran across the deck and into the deck below. Wind came running up and almost crashed into Hyrule as he fell down. He took Sky’s spot as it was closest to their new arrival. He had made a joke earlier, calling you an attempted stowaway which he thought was very funny- but it earned him a scowl from Time. They were so overbearing!
He had to steer the boat the whole time you were down here. He would have abandoned his post just to come say hi. It was good he didn't. Those two tok their sweet time but now that he was here he could hardly complain. It was going to be so much fun having another kid around. He was getting tired, always being treated like a baby sucked.
Wind stared at you. His footsteps echoed in the wooden hull. They were made all the louder by the absolute silence that had fallen on the group once you closed your eyes. Their unanimous decision to stay silent went out the port hole the moment you opened your eyes back up. That silent vow was broken the moment you woke up.
“You're awake!” Wind was loud. Like all kids who were really excited were. It couldn't be helped; he had a lot more energy than the others. Time went to shoosh Wind but stopped the moment he saw you open your eyes. You were wide eyed before smiling. You rubbed some sleep out of your eyes.
“I wasn't going to fall asleep.” You grabbed Twilight's cloak. Pulling it tighter around you. It was warmer than the air outside was.
“Good! I have a lot I want to talk about.” Wind began.
“Should we wait on questions until she’s feeling better?” Hyrule asked.
“I'm not going to question her! I just want to ask a few things!”
“That's the same thing Wind” Legend pointed out. He was about ready for a nap himself. He thought about pulling you over to the sleeping area so you could fall asleep in a proper bed, or at least what came close to it here, but wanted to wait until the group dispersed again. No point in trying to wrestle you away. Everyone was so overprotective.
“No it’s not!” Wind looked over to his new friend. “Where are you from?”
“I’m not from this Hyrule but my home isn't far.” You have already answered this question. It was one of the first things you were asked when you woke up. Truth be told you didn't want to go home. It was dangerous. And too far away to even think about.
“How far away?” Wind asked again. Still bright eyed and super excited. The quiet and almost sombre mood was lost to him. Not that he didn't care, he just couldn't sense it. He was too happy to have another kid here. Hopefully with another one in the group Time would lessen up and stop being so grumpy all the time.
“Wind! She's trying to sleep.” Legend didn't want anyone to play twenty questions when you were so tired.
“We can take you home if you want.” Four said. Already hating himself for suggesting it. What if you said yes? It was a reaction to suggest it.
“I've already asked them this.” Twilight said. He brushed some of the hair out of your face. You looked up at him and then to the group. They all smiled warmly. You were part of their group now. Naturally wherever you went they would follow. The soft fur around your shoulders was a comfort. You didn't respond.
“I don't think they want to go home.” Twilight pulled you close in a one armed hug. He didn't need to know any more than that. None of them did.
“You can stay here as long as you’d like.” Time said. He was ecstatic at the news and tried not to show it. He didn't want to leave you on your own or with people he didn't know. It would break his heart to have to leave you with people who weren't capable of giving you a guiding hand.
“I didn't mean to imply anything. I don't want you to think that I, or anyone, would want you gone.” Four nodded and quickly amended his statement. He didn't want you to think any of them were trying to kick you out already.
“Stay here with us for as long as you’d like!” Wind said, almost yelling again.
“I think I speak for everyone when I say we're glad to have you with us.” Everyone nodded in support of Wild’s statement. The cook had been quiet up to now. He was worried sick when you were first brought down. He hadn't left your side at all since you showed up. Quietly watching to make sure you were ok.
“You're in our care now.” Hyrule said. You muttered a small bit of thanks before closing your eyes again. Wind moved over to your free side and rested his head against yours. Twilight moved his arm to wrap around the two of you and smiled. It felt like home.
. . .
“Checkmate!”
“This is checkers.” Four looked over to Wind. The sailor was obviously joking. He had managed to take one of your pieces and was celebrating the victory. Holding his hand in the air he held up your piece as high as he could. You made your move. Taking one of his pieces in turn.
“This isn't chess so we dont crown them do we?” you asked.
“I think you do…” Four said.
“Only if they make it all the way across enemy lines.” Legend chimed in.
“Then that means-” Wind flipped his piece over to reveal the side of his piece that had a sigil of a crown carved into it. “-I have stolen the power.”
“You stole it? From where!” You said. Looking over. You were in the lead and winning, even if it was because he was going easy on you.
“Doesn't matter from where because I'm a pirate. I leave my mark wherever I go.” You laughed. Wind was happy to have someone to mess around with. He didn't realise how much he missed being a bigger brother until you came around. He was so used to being the youngest member that having you around freed him of that. It didn't free him from dish duty.
Everyone felt the cheer you brought along with them. Warrior, Sky, and Time were the ones who dotted on you the most. Sky was always slipping you treats he picked up from town and carving you out toys. Like this board game he made. It was a miniature checkers board that he made by hand for you to play with. It wasn't the only item he made but it was your favourite by far.
Warrior had been the one to save you, a fact he wasn't afraid to use in arguments when it came down to it. No fight had broken out in a few weeks but it didn't stop him from always treating you like a kid who would trip and break all of their bones. He knew he was too worried about you but he couldn't help it. He knew how hard it could be to grow up on your own.
He had promised himself that he wouldn't let anything bad happen to you ever again. He was always by your side and when he wasn't watching over you Time was giving him a glare from across the camp. Time was a lot like Warrior but more calm. He was a kid once too. He grew up around other children and knew how important climbing up a tree and scraping your knees were for a child's growth.
While Sky doted on you, Warrior was always three steps behind, and Time kept a careful watch while giving you the space needed to move at your own pace.
“Did you steal something from the last town we were in?” You asked. It was a genuine question. Poking to see if he had taken something without sharing.
“No! I don't take from just anyone. Those townsfolk did nothing to us so we let them pass.” Wind gestured for you to take your turn so he could make his next move. He wasn't sure if he wanted to move his new piece or to crown another. He kept forgetting he had to go easy. He didn't want to lose or give up the fight too easily but he didnt want you to grow frustrated and quit.
“Really? Because I swear I saw you swipe something from the guard tower.” Wild said. Pointing at his pack where he had placed the item. Wind paused. He had forgotten about that. You looked up at him and silently moved a piece across a space. Staring at him with a look that said ‘I told you so’. Before looking over to Wild who was watching the match while fixing his armour.
Wild had taken up the role of an older sibling. Much like Wind and Twilight. Difference was, was that he didn't grow up around other kids. He didn't remember the time he grew up. He knew he was different from the others, more rambunctious and wild, but even Time didn't mind his antics. Wind had his sister and Twilight had Ordon. They both were used to kids younger than them and knew how to help.
Even with his disadvantage you always smiled at him. You enjoyed seeing what he was up to and it made him happy. He felt like he had a home again. He even got to drag you along into his safer antics. The old man kept watch while he let you ride with him on the master cycle zero. It was faster than the horse's rancher had shown you and more fun in his opinion.
“What was it?” You leaned conspiratorially to Wind. As if sharing a conversation only the two of you could hear. Even though most of the group was listening in at this point.
“I'm not telling you that!”
“What was it?” You asked again, this time more quiet. Wind caved and leaned in as well. Talking in a quiet voice he said something inaudible. He put a finger to his lips and made a quiet ‘shush’ sound. Acting like he just revealed the grand secret he went back to the game.
“What did he take?” Twilight leaned over to Wild. Wild shrugged in response. He didn't see what it was. Probably an apple or something. They were in the storage room snooping around.
“It was probably nothing important. Please don't take things like Wind does.” Hyrule said. He was hoping that you wouldn't take anything like the others tended to and was sure you would be fine.
Legend looked over to Wind and mouthed ‘what was it’ only to be met with a shrug. The group went silent and the game went on. Wind taking something wasn't a big deal but making sure you were raised under good influences was. Not that any of them thought the others were a threat, rather it was a precaution. If you got in trouble they would have to tear the city apart looking for you. Hyrule watched the game continue with vested interest. He wanted to challenge you after Wind was done but it looked like the group would go back to walking after this match.
Legend, Hyrule, and Four had taken up the roles of both parents who were going to dote on you and siblings who had your back in trouble. Four loved to get into trouble with you and Wind. It was surprising that Legend and Hyrule wound up in this spot as well. Hyrule knew that the group must be so suffocating for a young kid and often took you out on walks and helped give you alone time.
As alone you could be. One of the boys had to be by your side at all times. To make sure you were safe. Hyrule made sure you had your time to relax and wander without going too far. He loved to teach you about the flowers in each region and what they could be used for. You took to nature like a fish to water. Always asking questions and helping him pick suitable flowers.
Legend was trying his best to be the cool uncle. Someone you could look up to without coming off as someone who would shut the fun down. The three dads of the group harked on you so much it was a wonder how you ever got out of their sight. When you did he was more than happy to let you wander as long as you brought someone else with you. Kids were independent. He knew what that was like.
The game ended as soon as you took Wind’s last piece. Cleaning up the pieces you put them all away in your pouch before Sky picked you up. Putting you on his shoulders as he and the rest of the group went back to the road. No matter how far or long you walked you never complained. You hardly ever had to walk as it was. Someone was always carrying you or willing to pick you up.
It was strangely peaceful here. Even though the group was hunting down monsters and constantly getting into fights they somehow always managed to have you avoid it. Either by taking you away to a remote and more safe area or by dispatching the monsters before you got a good look at them. They carved out a peaceful life on the road for you to enjoy. It was the least they could do to the member who brought so much life to their party.

that's so cool!! yeah i was a little curious cause i did see posts of those characters with the date of posting like. YEAARS ago and i was like waiiit. How much would you say it's evolved from the first iteration? Or how much stayed the same throughout the years?
haha oh god. I might start yapping about this.
it has changed a lot. it's honestly still in the process OF changing; I have a general idea of how it'll end and progress but nothing is set in stone and things may end up changing. I don't think they'll change drastically though. lately ganon's personality has gone through a major overhaul as I realized I made him really skittish and wayy too nice. so now he's mean and more like the character he's "supposed" to be :]
overall, though, it's changed a lot, especially from 2017-2019. my first idea was essentially "what if ganondorf had the triforce of wisdom and because of that tried to kill link first." so the first draft of alternate triforce was basically ganondorf trying to kill link with hammers until the previous hero, lionel, found him and took him to hyrule castle to be safe. link and zelda were also the same age in that draft, and I think zelda accidentally shot link in the stomach? ow.
then I got tired of that and moved onto the second draft. that was when I decided that ALT was going to be in the downfall timeline! ganon turned into this weird. goop thing that absorbed monster souls (undertale) because link from zelda ii died. lancelett was part of the knights of hyrule and died. sola (you haven't met her yet) was a guy and worked with ganon as a monster rights advocate. link had biological parents! he got kidnapped. zelda was dating pike, she was part gerudo, and ciless was her cousin and part of a "backup group" of royal family members who could use sealing powers. there were two planned endings. both of them were bad.
third draft is basically what ALT currently is, with extensive reworking. characters have changed and been shifted around into different roles, their personalities and histories have changed drastically, but the main plot has basically stayed the same. it's sort of a mixture of the first and second draft.
sorry for going off on a tangent but uh. now you know...?

The battle’s over. The Shadow is defeated and the Triforce of Power retrieved… so why is the chain still here? Why haven’t they gone home? It’s not like the Shadow has been the one that’s been making the portals the whole time… it’s not like they’re in an unknown Hyrule with no way home.
Aka, Legend fights depression/anger issues except it’s not his own depression and anger issues it’s literally everyone else’s until he’s pushed to doing the nuclear option. Sky (kinda) hugs him tho :)
TW: implied suicidal ideation
——————————————
It was over.
Sighs of relief echoed around the room as the Shadow was finally defeated, as the source of the portals and the monsters it displaced and empowered was finally defeated.
Legend picked up the little triangle off the ground. He sighed softly, clasping his hand around the Triforce of Power and feeling its energy course through him.
"We should put that where it belongs," Sky said.
"Where?" Wild asked, the question clearly made out of curiosity than anything as he sipped a potion. A cut on his cheek healed over. "That thing feels powerful."
"It's a piece of the Triforce," Hyrule said. "I think Legend can hold onto it until we find out where it's held in this era."
"Then we go home!" Wind cheered.
Twilight laughed. "Yeah, then we go home, sailor. So let's make the best of this one last quest."
Legend let the Triforce of Power fade into his skin, the mark on the back of his left hand emblazoned, the top triangle filling in just like the bottom right one.
"Let's find out which era the Shadow was from," Time ordered and they made to exit the dungeon.
Upon investigation, they learned there was no way to access the sacred realm from this time, none of the methods they knew would work nor did the locations where they usually traveled over existed. The Triforce of Courage turned out to be wielded by a little boy no older than three, the mark on his hand having no more meaning than any other birthmark. The Triforce of Wisdom was the same. There was no kingdom, no Hyrule, nothing.
"It's like they're only wielded," Sky said when they went back to the fairly large, abandoned cabin they'd been making good use of. "Which means there's no place to put it back."
"We can't take it back to any of our eras, that's just an awful idea," Warriors agreed. Wind and Twilight both grimaced while Hyrule looked horrified.
"Like that hairstyle you decided on this morning," Legend muttered and Four snorted, Wind giggled softly too. Twilight even rolled his eyes and the tension was successfully cut as Warriors squawked and argued that Legend knew full well that he hadn't had time to fix his hair that morning.
He realized they didn't know.
Legend watched them all slowly come to the realization even as he and Four and Hyrule forged and enchanted a box to hide the Triforce away.
Even once they put it deep in a cave and used a lot of their assorted items and magic to bury it far out of reach, to place traps to keep it impossible to take, and buried it. That way, whenever the next Champion of Din was born, it would go to them and there would be an empty, magically defended, unbreakable box, but until then, the Triforce of Power would be safe and inaccessible.
Once that was done, he saw the expectation, then they all slowly came to the realization.
They had no way back. None of them did. The shadow had brought them here and the Golden Goddesses had left centuries ago while Hylia died, for the second time, whenever Sun died or will die.
Legend sat on the beam in the ceiling of their new abode, the cabin managing to house them well enough especially after Twilight and Time took Wild to repair most of it.
He watched the realization hit Hyrule and in the near same moment it was hitting Twilight.
Twilight was the one to voice it.
"Oh Ordona," he whispered. "We cain't go back, can we?"
"What?" Wild looked up from the cooking pot he'd set up inside the cabin. "What do you mean?"
"The Shadow made the portals," Hyrule breathed, he looked up at Legend. "We don't have a way back."
Legend met his eyes before he looked away and nodded silently.
"You've known," Hyrule realized too.
"Not the only one,” he said, and glanced at Time.
Time had been silent for a while now, but he nodded when the attention was on him, fidgeting with a blue ocarina.
Finally, the realization settled in on all of them. The understanding that they were stuck visibly hit them.
Sky was in denial, Legend noted. The knight insisted they try and find a way to put the Triforce of Power into the sacred realm. Wild was mostly with him, but both did a lot of prayer to the goddesses to give them a portal.
Warriors and Twilight, however, were in anger. Both snapped at everyone, got mad at Sky and Wild for (being in denial) praying and at Time and Four for trying to find a way to fix things. Twilight usually got his anger out through Time making him help with building up the cabin, where Warriors would end up sparring with someone, usually Legend.
Four and Time were in bargaining, searching everywhere for other options, Time even going as far as enlisting Four with his Ocarina of Time to see if they could use the divine, temporal magic in it to create something that got them back home.
Hyrule and Wind were at depression, when Wind realized there was no way back he left the cabin and Legend followed him to find their youngest in tears, sobbing for his grandmother, his sister, and his best friend whom he'd never see again. Hyrule was much of the same, he'd been the only one though who'd gone through the other stages, he'd insisted otherwise at first, begged the goddesses to give them a way home, snapped angrily at everyone for every little thing, then he was just breaking down and stayed in this depressive state as he mourned his home.
Legend noticed he was the only one at acceptance. He was the only one who seemed to realize that bad things happened and there was nothing they could do to stop that, only improve the end result or aftermath.
He started to help around the cabin even as his wanderlust—and everyone else's—began to grow. He started with the cabin itself, he kept Warriors and Twilight busy with chopping wood and helping him put things up, walls and roofing. He pulled Hyrule and Wind into helping with as much as he could, giving them things to do to keep them from sitting in their grief all day. The other four were stubborn that they wouldn't need the cabin much longer and they'd be home sometime soon, but Legend managed to convince them that having a base that allowed them safety and a bit of comfort while they were in an unknown land was the best option.
He held onto the strings of the fraying group and pulled them back together. Dynamics shifted rapidly, Wild and Twilight constantly at ends as Wild shifted from denial to bargaining, still constantly praying but now helping Four and Time. Time and Warriors got into fights as Time grew closer and closer to depression as he seemed to slowly approach the understanding he wasn't getting back to his wife. Hyrule and Wind both becoming recluses and avoiding everyone else. Four shifting from bargaining to anger and depression at the same time, snapping at everyone and crying himself to sleep.
Legend got Four to help him plan a forge and Twilight and Warriors—who both accepted their roles as the heavy lifters—helped them build it. Four agreed to make hinges and nails which Wild supplied the metal for.
He showed Wild how to cut and sand wooden boards and they worked on a kitchen. Twilight was leaving anger as he got the two to work together on that.
He took Hyrule and Wind to help find animals and coax bees into beginning a new hive in an apiary that Legend had spent a while making out of thatch and wood. They made pens for the wild hogs they'd tracked down and caught, Wind somehow being a naturally with them and Hyrule able to keep them somewhat calm with his fairy magic as they worked to domesticate them.
"You're turning this into a permanent residence, vet," Sky said once while Legend enlisted him to come with him to a somewhat distant but nearby village for more supplies.
"So?" Legend didn't deny that.
"We'll go home," Sky said, "those animals will be left alone soon enough."
"I'll make sure they're free to roam again before we leave," Legend promised. "But until then... Rulie and the Sailor need something to focus on, they both love animals and those are a lot of work. Smithy needs a forge to stay present so we got him a forge. Rancher and Wars both have a lot of things to work out so we're working on it."
"I guess," Sky sighed. "I don't see the point. We'll leave soon."
Legend decided not to mention that they'd been here for a year now and Sky had been saying that the whole time.
"Well, we'll want some sheep or maybe goats, Twi would like goats and they have wool... and milk, goats will do well in the area too. We've knocked down a bunch of trees so there is room," Legend mused. "I wonder if I could grow some apple trees while we're here. I know wild animals adore those so it may help with balancing out all the lumber we've cut down."
"I guess that wouldn't be a bad idea," Sky sighed. "We have cut down a lot of trees, so I suppose giving the native animals something to eat wouldn't be a bad idea. Are you aiming for self sufficiency?"
Legend just hummed and shrugged. He was aiming for his brothers not falling apart, but self sufficiency worked.
He noted to get cuccos too sometime soon, Sky would enjoy those. He'd have to figure out how to handle Time...
Two years into their 'brief stay' in the between era, Legend watched them continue to fall apart despite his best efforts.
They had things to do, things to bond over, he'd send Wars, Wind, and Hyrule to help Four in the forge most days as Four refused mostly to leave. The former three were still in anger and depression respectively. Four was more in depression than bargaining now.
Yet they were fraying. Time snapped at everyone, especially Legend, Wind, and Twilight, then Twilight and Warriors were at each other's backs but were constantly at odds with one another, Wild avoided everyone as did Four, and both were beginning to snap at them all. Sky too, he lost the soft, dreamy-eyed look, and was constantly angry at everyone.
Legend tried giving them days to themselves, days with the few they didn't snap at, but nothing worked. He sent Wild and Hyrule, the only pairing that held true even after everything went bad, on excursions to the woods, asking them to be back within the week, to be careful, and 'get a lay of the land'. He had Wind and Time paired off, the former usually able to coax the latter out of any funk, but Wind only seemed to get more depressive and Time more angry that Legend quickly ended that attempt.
He got bounties from the town and would send Sky or Warriors out on them, often Four as well. They seemed a bit better afterwards, between themselves at least, then whatever camaraderie formed during their time out quickly dissolved.
Wind was doing better, when Legend kept him and Time separated. He enjoyed the hogs that were becoming far more domesticated each day, he taught himself how to handle the goats when Twilight began to avoid them and Legend blamed himself for not realizing that the reminder of home could've been a bad idea for some. Sky enjoyed the cuccos but Twilight hated the goats. Wind was good with the goats, he cared for the two they had, came with Legend to the town and asked another farmer how to shear goat wool and purchased shears to do so. That winter, he did exactly that and Legend took the time to sit him down and show him how to turn that fur into fabric.
Time was doing the worst, constantly snapping at people, tearing them down. He knew the truth, Legend was fairly sure, and that just made it worse. It was the worst whenever he was near Twilight, or Wind or Legend, and Legend was certain it was because he had noticed the similarities between the three of them and someone he knew of his own time, they were his successors after all. Twilight to Malon, Legend would guess his was Zelda, Lullaby, though he wasn't sure at all. He had no idea for Wind. Either way, Time got worse when around them and likewise Twilight and Wind began to get worse when around Time.
Legend didn't know how to fix this. Their team had frayed and he didn't know how to keep them together.
No matter how many blankets he wrapped around crying teens, no matter how many soft or even harsh words he offered, no matter how many blades he sharpened, spars he fought, advice he gave, jobs he assigned, nothing worked.
It was when he sent Sky on a bounty with Warriors and Hyrule that he figured it out.
They came back, and as usual with the few who went on the bounties —Twilight refused to go on any, Time was the same, and Legend wasn't risking sending Wind or Wild to go kill a person— they were closer.
Legend hid in the trees, purple eyes glinting red in the darkness of the shadows, and he heard them tease and laugh as they came up the now well-worn path.
Within three days that dissolved, back at each other's throats and not in a familial way.
Legend finishing weaving a new blanket and embroidering a border on it, a pastime he'd picked up last winter when Wind sheared the goats and had kept since, making sure their fairly large cabin was stocked with warm blankets as winters here got as cold as the champion's Hebra blizzards.
"They need something to stand against," he murmured to the Golden Sword on the hook by the door. She was long gone, but he still talked to her. A habit born from anxiety.
He was bordering the blanket with white waves and seashells, putting secret little telescopes with not-so-secret seagulls. It was for Wind, who'd helped him dye the fabric his apparent favorite shade of blue.
"Zelda mentioned it once," he muttered. "When people don't have something to rally against, they turn on each other, for some of the stupidest reasons too."
He glanced up as he heard Four yelling at Wild over goddesses knew what. He should go break that up.
He put the thread and blanket down and went over to break up another fight.
Goddesses, he was tired of his brothers fighting.
Sky shared a room with Time and Four. Legend had initially intended to put Wind and Warriors with Time but that wasn't an option after Time became volatile toward all three of his successors and Warriors became volatile in general.
Twilight and Wild weren't able to be paired either anymore, so Wild was with Hyrule and Warriors and Legend put himself with Twilight and Wind.
He'd tried an intervention. A meeting with everyone and he laid out what he was seeing—only to be immediately talked over and for yelling and arguing to break out. He had to physically separate Warriors and Sky, again, and force Time to leave Wind alone, as the kid had dared to be optimistic around the others and Time hadn't let that fly for a moment.
It wasn't working.
Legend sat in the window, Wind and Twilight dead asleep inside and the world awake outside. Stars gleaming and the moon shining.
He had a chance here. Something that could work.
Wind felt confused.
He started to understand and accept that, yeah, they weren't going back home, that he'd never see Aryll or Grandma again. He could accept that.
He had to. It's not like they could go back. Time and Four had tried to find a way back home, Sky and Wild had spent weeks praying for the goddesses to give them a way home, they'd tried.
And failed. Nine heroes and they'd failed.
Wind knew Legend was what they had left keeping them together. He knew the others had grown distant, dangerous even as time went on. He knew, when Legend had asked him to be in charge of handling the hogs and later telling him he did a great job of stepping up and taking care of the goats when Twilight didn't, that Legend was trying to keep everyone together. He had, albeit with Twilight's and Warriors's help, turned the run down, abandoned, wooden shack they'd taken to using as shelter into an actual home! When he'd always told them that it was a life on the road for him at that.
So yeah, Wind was confused when the status quo suddenly shifted.
When nobody stopped the fighting that broke out, when nobody left to take care of some bounty for a week or two, when he realized how badly their relationships had gotten in the past two and a half years. The Captain was a face he hardly could find safety in anymore, Time was harmful to be near and he had to purposely avoid the older hero 'less he finds himself in a one sided insult battle that matched the sincerity of the Veteran's and the Captain's earliest matches. Sky used to be a safe space but now he was distant at best, volatile at worst, and occasionally—only when he'd come back from those bounty hunts—his old self.
Wind missed his brothers, but when Legend outright disappeared he freaked out just a bit. That was his last lifeline to safety, to stability.
"Hey Smithy?" Wind poked into the forge.
"Wgat?!" Four snapped, turning those vibrantly ever-changing eyes on him. They used to be a constant storm gray, occasionally flicking through another color or two when tensions or emotions were high, but not always shifting through rainbow like they did these days.
"Have you seen the Vet?" Wind asked, careful not to wince. He wasn't a kid anymore, he couldn't show that kind of weakness, especially not in front of the other heroes.
"Tch, no."
Four glared at the metal in front of him, another expertly crafted sword that would be taken to the town next excursion and sold just like the rest of the extra things they had.
His eyes briefly settled red. "He hasn't bothered me in a few days, finally." In a lowered mutter, a strained one too, he added, "Maybe he finally got the hint that we want to be alone."
Wind grimaced as he looked away. "Thanks anyway."
Four made some comment that Wind decidedly ignored as he left.
Hyrule was by the apiary, fairies had taken to being there too and Wind still remembered the day that they'd set up a little fountain of sugar water—which Hyrule replaced daily. The apiary area was filled with bees and fairies.
"Hey, Traveler? You seen the vet recently?"
Hyrule glanced up. He'd been so silent lately, basically ever since they'd been stuck here, he'd been quiet basically the whole time they'd been stuck here. Wind hated it.
"No," Hyrule admitted.
Wind hummed. He wasn't sure who to turn to when he was worried about someone... not when that someone was Legend. Warriors would snap, Hyrule was distant, Sky could be either, Time hated him for some reason, Twilight...
"You know where Twi is?"
"Not really... I think I saw him with the goats."
Wind raised an eyebrow at that. "What's he doing with my goats?" He muttered to himself as he left Hyrule alone to go to the goat pen.
Twilight was indeed in the goat pen, sitting there and trying to coax the goats to him as they eyed him oddly.
Wind sat on the fence and waited. It was almost sweet. Twilight had been quieter lately, the past couple months or two, he'd been quieter, less likely to snap.
The goats noticed Wind first and abandoned Twilight to run over to him. He laughed softly as he jumped down and pet the animals. Twilight watched and Wind made his way over to his roommate.
"Hey," he greeted.
"Hey, sailor," Twilight replied, eyes flicking up and down at Wind.
Wind crossed his arms, leaning over on one leg. "Whatcha doin' out here?"
Twilight shrugged. "Just... thinking, I guess."
"Smithy thinking or Traveler thinking?" Wind asked.
"Probably, the Traveler's," Twilight sighed heavily. "You remember the other day, when the vet snapped?"
Wind nodded. It was rather rememberable.
Legend had asked everyone to be inside for dinner that day, saying he wanted to talk to them. Then at dinner, he'd cut off every single argument before they started, prompted Hyrule to talk about the apiary, Wild about the surrounding area and his new hobby of cartography, he tried to get them to talk about nice things, things that made them happy. Then Warriors had snapped first.
"Why do you even bother?!" Time had demanded. "How can you act like this is nice? This is good? That it's all okay?!"
Legend had stared, his hands on the table and visibly still as he looked Time dead in the eyes. "Because someone has to."
And thus began a cut-off lecture from their veteran about how they were acting, how they were treating each other, how awful they'd become. That lecture was interrupted quickly by Time, with Warriors beginning some arguments, then Sky joined in, and soon Four as well. Everyone yelling over each other, Wind trying to intervene with some desperate optimism only to be verbally torn apart by his own childhood hero.
"Yeah," Wind said, back in the present. Twilight hummed. "Why?"
"Just thinkin'... when was the last time we actually just sat down and talked? We did it all the time before," before the end, before they were trapped, "at camp, in inns, on the road. We'd just talk, chat, we... we were close. Now... Now I can't remember the last time I was nice to the champion, to you, to anyone."
Wind thought about it.
Twilight kept going. "You're older too! I don't know—somehow I just—I was thinkin' back and then I saw ya an'... you're sixteen now, right?"
"Almost," Wind shrugged, not admitting he'd been counting to basically adulthood. Sixteen wasn't adult, but it was close enough he'd be taken as one. Especially with his height, scars, and how he was slowly losing the baby fat. "Fifteen, almost sixteen."
"Did we even celebrate?" Twilight sounded almost hysterical. "Yours? Or Cub's? Or even the Traveler's or Smithy's?!"
Wind shook his head. "No..." he admitted quietly. "No, we haven't celebrated anything since we got here. Not summer solstice—not winter solstice, birthdays, nothing."
"How..."
"Rancher," Twilight looked up when Wind prompted him, "I came here 'cause I was wonderin' if you'd seen the Vet lately. I 'aven't seen him in a day or two and neither's Rulie or the Smithy."
Twilight blinked, then concern —concern! Wind hadn't seen any of the other heroes look worried in years— flickered across his face.
"Really?" He asked. "He’s normally somewhere nearby, and's definitely always somewhere inside 'round dinner. Wa'n't he in the room last night?"
Wind shook his head. "No. He wasn't."
Then they heard someone running.
Hyrule all but slammed into the fence of the goat pen. "The Triforce!" He cried. "I-I can sense—It's been taken!"
Wind felt his blood go cold as a sense of dread slammed into him.
The table was chaos as the eight of them gathered inside. Hyrule was the most vocal he had been in months and Warriors arguing with him.
"We buried that thing miles underground! We left traps and—nobody could've gotten to it and the other wielders are still alive!"
"I'm telling you, I sensed it be taken! I am—I was the protector of the Triforce back in my era, I can sense it whenever it's not in someone and—That one's gone!"
"It's impossible! Nobody who didn't know exactly where it was could've found it—"
"What about someone who did?" Four spoke up, eyes distinctly darker, shimmering between midnight violet and deep-ocean blue. "I don't see the Vet here."
"As if!" Wind exclaimed. "He's the only sane person here!"
"Weren't you looking for him earlier?" Four retorted. "Isn't it weird that the moment the Triforce goes missing the guy's nowhere to be seen?"
"He's a hero!"
"Of what?! Nobody's hero's here! We're nobodies from nowhere doing nothing!"
They were interrupted by someone banging on the door. They all looked up but nobody moved.
Sky sighed and went to get the door.
"Oh thank the goddesses!" Wind recognized one of the villagers. It was the one who helped him learn how to shear goats. "There's some kind of mage attacking the town!"
The heroes shared a look.
"Show us," Time ordered.
There were a series of attacks, spanning across the whole of this Hyrule. People were able to escape for the most part, but there were burns and injuries everywhere.
Wind didn’t get it. It was like another adventure had begun, but neither the current hero of courage or wielder of wisdom were even called to fight. Wild and Hyrule had gone to check on them, both were happily living in the capital of this not-quite-a-kingdom, which hadn't even been attacked.
It seemed to be going for them.
Legend was still missing, and it freaked Wind out. Legend had been the main one to set the traps for the Triforce. He wondered if Legend had set some kind of spell that would alert him if someone came too close and had gone to handle it alone, and failed.
Twilight had stepped up. They were back in adventure gear and it surprised Wind how quickly things began to set back into... well, harmony. Twilight had asked Wind to give him and Wild a bit and so Wind spent half the night on the sofa, reading some book about... apples? He wasn't sure. It was one he'd seen Legend read a lot. Then Twilight and Wild were better. They found themselves fighting lots of armos and other magical golems, and battle had its way of working out problems within a team.
Warriors and Time made up, Time stopped snapping at Wind and Twilight, Four's eyes slowly stopped constantly changing color and settled back into that slate gray.
Wind figured out why.
"I think this is why we're still here," Sky whispered to him one night.
"The goddesses needed us to fix this new problem too, so they didn't send us home yet?" Wind guessed, looking up at the stars. He'd be rather close to Outset Island if he were in his Hyrule, based off the constellations above them.
"Yeah," Sky murmured softly. "I think so."
Hyrule had came back out of his shell as he began to worry and chastise everyone for their wounds again, him and Warriors falling back into their old place as medics.
Even Wind was feeling more like himself. He hadn't kept his skills sharpened and he'd grown considerably since he last fought, but Warriors had been more than happy to help and Wind found himself falling asleep with a blue scarf over his shoulders just like old times.
The only thing that was missing was their veteran, flames and ice accompanying a singing golden blade, rhythmic steps and quiet humming during and outside of battle. Sharp quips and retorts that lessened the tension.
They found a trail. It hadn't taken long, a couple months at most, before they discovered the golems and armos were coming from some ancient tower.
They made their way there, stopping forest fires, holding off hordes of magically-created monsters, and just getting closer again.
"You know," Wild said one night as they could see that temple in the distance, gleaming with powerful magic. "I... Don't make me be the one to say it."
"Say what?" Hyrule looked confused.
"The Veteran."
Hyrule suddenly looked away, not responding.
Wild sighed, his head dropped down as he settled his distant eyes on the fire in front of him. "Exactly."
"What do you mean?" Warriors asked, clearly a bit more calm than the months, years, before these outbreaks.
"The vet set half the traps that protected the Triforce," Four said, almost deadpan but the red that overtook his eyes briefly over the steel gray betrayed him. "I know I suggested he betrayed us before but— I think... he was always paranoid, so I wouldn't put it past him to set some kind of alarm. And for how we were all acting..."
Wind startled a bit. He hadn't expected anyone to acknowledge their change in mannerisms, yet here Four was…
"He may have gone to check it out alone, and..." Four trailed off weakly.
A haunting tune fell over the air, Wind went rigid while Hyrule shot up.
Everyone was dead silent. Not a sound passed as they listened to the haunting tune, their hands settled on blades.
"Oh, I went there alone," a completely unfamiliarly cold tone in an extremely familiar voice cut through the air.
The tune stopped. Everyone turned and stared at their missing hero.
"Vet!" Wind gaped. "Where—"
Hyrule stopped him. "Why do you have the Triforce of Power, Veteran?" He demanded.
Legend hummed, plucking the strings of some golden lute. The notes rang through the air, but no clear tune was being made anymore. "Because, Traveler. I wanted it."
"What." Time pulled Twilight back a bit as he stepped toward the front. "Why?"
Legend shot him a cold look. Wind hated that look in his eyes. "I was tired. I am tired. I thought I could handle it, I thought I could deal with my whole life being ended and uprooted again, but no. If the goddesses want to play like this, then let's play."
Wind hated how Legend's left hand glowed, only missing a single triangle before it was complete. He hated how his eyes seemed more golden than usual. He hated how the last person he thought he could find safety in suddenly radiated danger in a way even Time hadn’t the past two and a half years.
"You're behind all this?!" Sky tightened his grip on the Master Sword as he spoke. "You—You've been attacking all these people?!"
Legend shrugged. "They're just pawns in the goddess's game. Pawns can get upgraded, I'm eliminating future threats."
Wind wanted to throw up. Warriors was the first one to lunge, but Legend slipped away, a song fell over the air and Legend disappeared.
"What?!"
"He... He betrayed us."
"How could he?"
The final battle was horrible.
They had to stop him, Wind reminded himself. They marched their way up the temple and fought off the dozens of golems and armos that attacked them. They found Legend at the very top, playing that haunting tune again on a pink ocarina.
"Stop," Time ordered. "That's enough, Veteran. It's over."
The crystal-clear notes came to an end but Legend kept his back to them. "You know what I was told once, by the goddess's Oracle herself? I was told I'd be the greatest of all heroes, known for centuries to come, longer than any other. You know what lasts longer than gratitude? Than love?"
He turned and a dose of terror shot down Wind's spine as he saw the cold smirk playing on an emotionless face.
"Fear. Fear lasts generations beyond gratitude,” Legend hummed. A golden power curled around him visibly.
"How could you?!" Hyrule cried, stepping forward. "You're—You're a hero! The Legendary Hero! How can you—Just turn on everything you've done? How can you turn on us?!"
Legend scoffed. "Turn on you guys? It was easier than you'd think." He looked back at the sky. "I doubt you'd get it. Do you realize how hard it is to watch all of the few people you have left deteriorate? Watch them become shells of their former selves, angry at everything? At the world and its inhabitants? Watch them become horrible to interact with? Watch the ones who chose to become filled with anger completely destroy what the ones who became sad, depressive shells had left? DO YOU REALIZE HOW AWFUL YOU WERE TO EACH OTHER?!"
Wind flinched and he felt them all step back.
That cold front that Legend had completely melted and was replaced by a roaring, blazing heated anger. Near immediately as it came, it was cooling back by an avalanche of that cold front yet again.
"I'm doing this because I can, Traveler," Legend spat, blazing heat falling to a simmer and then a frigid chill. "I'm doing this because I want to."
"I don't understand," Wind whispered weakly, his voice strained and his voice choked.
"You wouldn't," Legend responded and Wind flinched at the underhanded jab. "None of you would. It doesn't matter though."
He put the ocarina away and drew a familiar golden sword, that golden magic coalesced to that sword and it gleamed.
"You won't be here long enough for it to matter."
Legend was the one who attacked first.
Warriors stepped forward to meet him.
Wind found himself having to fight his brother to restore peace to Hyrule.
Wind realized how powerful the older… former hero was as they fought. How he fought as if he were dancing to some tune none of them could hear, each movement to a beat but still unpredictable despite that consistency. Blades slammed and magic was everywhere, Wind helped where he could but only so many of them could engage at once and he ended up falling back and taking out his bow like Wild had.
Legend was winning. Somehow, he was winning against them all, Time was hanging from the edge of the tower and Twilight was the one keeping him from falling, audibly begging the older hero to hold on and not let go. Wind ran over to help just as Warriors was thrown into a broken pillar, and Wild had quickly moved to fill in the place that had fallen empty while Hyrule darted to Warriors's side.
Four was driven back and Sky staggered. Wild was thrown into Four and it was just Sky and Legend fighting.
Wind and Twilight got Time back onto the top of the tower as Sky and Legend dueled at a speed and with skill that none of them could intervene. Even arrows shot could hit Sky rather than Legend.
Golden light exploded off them and Wind covered his eyes.
He heard Sky cry out, a scream, and as soon as he could he looked.
Sky was hugging Legend, who had the Master Sword embedded in his chest. Blood trickled from the edge of his mouth.
“Why?!” Sky begged, cradling Legend against him. “You didn’t have to do this! You didn’t—Why did you do this? It never had to come to this, Vet.” Sky sobbed, hugging Legend even as the fallen hero slowly lost the color in his skin.
He laughed, Legend laughed softly and he smiled. He glanced at Wind and Twilight and Time, his eyes flicked over to Wild and Four helping each other up, to Warriors leaning on Hyrule.
"Don't... do it again," he slurred. "You... You're brothers... re... remember to act li'e it."
"What?" Sky questioned softly. They all gathered closer.
"It worked," Legend laughed again, a soft and relieved thing. "You... You worked together... you were nice... happy even... I knew... I knew it... it would work."
"What would work?" Sky asked frantically, he laid Legend down and their fallen brother's face contorted in pain at the movement at the sword being pulled from his chest.
Legend let out a shaky breath. Wind felt a few tears fall down his cheeks and then felt a pair eyes on him.
"Knew... that if... if you had something to... fight against... you wouldn't... fight each other. Peace... peace only... brings infighting." Legend smiled. He smiled softly at the sky above, dazed, slowly dulling eyes shifting from them to the sky. "Don't do it again."
Wind sobbed, his legs buckling. Hyrule dove forward, trying to heal Legend. He felt arms wrap around his shoulders, but he couldn’t quite bring himself to see whose they were.
"No! No, Vet— Don't—"
"You did all that to make us stop fighting?" Warriors breathed, sounding horrified. His voice came from right behind Wind’s head.
"No..." Twilight took a step back.
Legend grinned at them, blood in his teeth and a clear happiness in dimming eyes. "It worked... no more hidin' in the forge... or the apiary... n'more tearin' the rancher or sailor down... n'more fightin'... s'all I wan'ed. All I... wanted. Rule, it won' work. Fi don' heal easy."
"No!" Hyrule cried. "A potion! Please— Vet you can't just... You can't!"
"Mmm... tol' me that... 'hen I fough' Ganon... an' won. I'll do i' if I wan'."
Wind watched Legend fade, eyes settling distantly on the stars above, had it not been for seeing the light leave his eyes, Wind could’ve believed that Legend had just been stargazing.
Legend knew what he was doing when he sat by the window, when he realized what had to be done in order for them to... to come back to themselves.
In order for him to not have to keep an alert and a watch spell on the kitchen at all times, to have one on the forge itself. He knew what had to be done to stop his brothers from pushing each other to their limits.
He had to get them to rally against something. But nothing powerful enough would come anytime soon for them to face...
He glanced back at Wind and Twilight and their sleeping forms. He glanced back outside before he moved inside, grabbed his pouches and hat and sword from his bedside and then dropped out the window.
He didn't regret his decision even as he set a mostly evacuated town ablaze, curbing the flames from truly destroying everything or killing anyone, but doing plenty harm and damage.
He didn't regret his decision when he saw them fight his ever-growing army of golems and armos, watching each other's backs and protecting each other.
He didn't regret his decision when they sat around a campfire while trying to track down the cause of the situation (him), yet had laughed and teased. Though they grew somber at his absence, they were themselves.
Hyrule wasn't eyeing the rooftop.
Four wasn't giving a longing gaze at the forge fires.
Wild wasn't staring at the knife he used to prepare dinner before continuing cooking.
Warriors wasn't twitching his hand toward his sword whenever Sky spoke to him.
Time wasn't constantly degrading Twilight and Wind.
Sky wasn't always ready to fight one of them to the death.
Wind wasn't asking why they even bothered to live anymore.
They were themselves, a bit older, a bit more hurt and strained, but they were themselves for the first time in almost three years.
Legend didn't regret his decision even as he faced them at the top of some ancient tower, temple, that he'd taken over.
He didn't regret his decision as he fought them all off.
He especially didn't regret it as Sky buried Fi's blade through his chest.
He looked over them, how Sky’s eyes filled with tears, how Twilight pulled Wild to his chest and the slightly younger hero broke into sobs in his mentor’s hold, how Warriors pulled Wind slightly back from where he’d crumbled to the ground and buried his own face in his hair.
He regretted the pain he put them in, he knew that.
He did not regret the wake-up call this would hopefully be. He would sacrifice his life a thousand times over, his integrity, his reputation, everything.
He would give it all just to help them, for the chance, that they would at least try to be themselves.

Part of your Realm
🐺* Thank you to anyone who reads my work! I wrote this fanfic and it is rather long but as I continue to edit it, I’d like to share it on here. The full fic is uploaded on my Wattpad! * 🐺

Crepuscular
*Welcome to the Realm of Twilight*
"It is duly noted that the interlopers have more in common with the Realm of Light than we would think." Midna paced back and forth. She caressed the glass shard that adorned her neck. Her gaze looked far away. As though she had traversed through the Realm of Light once again. Even if it was just through her memories.
Students mouths hung unhinged from their jaws. All Twili were curious about the Realm of Light, especially since Midna's return. Oh, and of course, Zant's defeat. Midna decided that the Twili deserved to be educated about the "other side." The side of light. Just because we lived in the dark didn't mean we should be left, ignorant amongst it. Midna held monthly courses for fellow Twili who were interested in the structure of the Realm of Light.
Courses varied from mannerisms to architecture, culture, and, of course, history. Most Twili were in favor of Midna's radical movements about the Realm of Light. Midna believed she and Zelda were one and the same, just on opposite sides of the mirror. Her adoration for Princess Zelda paled in comparison to her adoration for the Hero of Twilight. Who helped return Midna as the rightful inheritor of the Twili throne. Any time she spoke of him, her face shifted into a forlorn shadow of its former self. She even renamed the main hall of our palace the "Hall of the Hero." Where we congregated monthly to listen to imparted wisdom regarding the Realm of Light.
Don't mistake Midna's ideals. It wasn't that she was trying to convert our brilliant umbrage to replicate the philosophies of the illuminated. She simply wanted us to live in an era of peace. She wanted us to hold ourselves accountable for our banishment from the light. Most of all, she wanted us to learn that we too, if we so chose, could rewrite history much like she had. We were not our ancestors. Under her reign, history would not repeat itself. Shadows are not evil, for even the beings of light cast shadows in their world. We must coexist.
Not all Twili felt the same. Some believed we should not be held accountable for the actions of the interlopers.  Who also just so happen to be our traitorous ancestors. Eons ago, they tried to aggrandize the power of the legendary Triforce. This unjust action caused us, the Twili, to be cast into the world of the crepuscular. You were in this category of Twili. You did not wish to be cast into this nomenclature when you personally had done nothing wrong. You felt like you were being charged for a crime you never committed. And just like a prisoner longed to break the chains of obscurity in which he was tried, you longed to break free from the Realm of Twilight.
*
You found Midna in her study. She picked up a book off the shelf, then sighed, returning the book to its original slot of dust.
"Midna?" Your tattered cloak trailed behind you as you swept into Midna's vision.
"Ah, Y/N. What brings you here? Do you wish to discuss more about today's class?" Midna took a seat on her foreboding iron throne. You always found it ironic that Midna chose to display the headdress of the imp. When Zant usurped the throne, he transmogrified Midna into an impish creature. Now it sat like a trophy, perched atop her throne. When she sat down, it appeared to float majestically on her head. She seemed to notice the bewilderment stamped on your face.
"You know, it must seem odd. Why keep this relic of a cursed form? But it reminds me of him."
"Who?" You asked in earnest. You knew who "him" was, however. It was impossible not to see the adoration etched on her features anytime she spoke of the hero. She talked about how emotions lorded power over the Realm of Light and its inhabitants. For the Twili, feelings were transitory, like blades of grass blowing in the wind. The wind could stop howling, and the blades could be blown in one direction or another. All of this unpredictability did not deserve a name in their world. And so Twili lived without ever really being educated about feelings. You couldn't help but wonder, what did Midna feel towards the Hero of Twilight? Did she herself even know?
"The hero," she said with a smile eclipsed by the surrounding shadows. "So, Y/N, tell me what plagues your mind."
It felt like someone had substantiated your chest with heavy chains. The weight of what you were about to ask crushed you. You felt imprisoned by a yearning you could no longer contain. "Midna, is it possible to travel to the Realm of Light?"
Little slivers of light filtered through her face in the dark. You could make out nothing but the burgundy gleam in her eyes. She gathered herself from her chair. You could vaguely make out her fidgeting with something behind her neck. Midna transported behind you, giving you a startle. In her hands was the shard of the Mirror of Twilight. She loosely looped it around your neck like an albatross.
"This piece of the Mirror of Twilight is the only remaining piece in existence. It has the potential to transport anyone to the light. However, should something happen to this remaining piece, you could no longer call the twilight your home. This makes the situation tricky; you know, we are not meant to be beings of the light. We don't speak the same language. Many of us don't speak much at all, though I would like to move that oppression. The pallor we possess could not withstand the strength known as the sun. Not to mention," she began to lift part of her cloak," we will always be tattooed by the Realm of the Twilight. We will never be able to escape who we are.
Midna gently followed the maze of markings that traveled up her arm with her fingertip. "I appreciate your avid interest in the Realm of Light, but my intention is to never make you lose sight of who you are. Who we are."
"How do we know who we are if we have never been given the opportunity? Like you have?" Midna bitterly laughed, "Opportunity you say? What opportunity was that? Being transformed into a hideous creature? Watching our innocent fellow Twili die? Having the throne usurped from me? Having to say goodbye to someone I loved..." Midna yanked the shard from your neck, crestfallen.
"We can never belong in their realm, Y/N." You could see Midna stalling to say more. As though she wanted you to convince her that her opinion was wrong. Maybe the interest in the Realm of Light had a more selfish connotation to it? You saw her hesitation as a chance to strike.
"Midna," you said, looking her square in the eyes, ready for debate. "Doesn't "twilight" have the word "light" in it? If the interlopers who are our ancestors are not much different than those of the light, how can you cast us as different? Aren't we all made of some type of light? Some type of light that leads to the same source?" You got down on one knee in reverence and bowed to her, for she was the princess of the twilight after all. "Midna, I recognize that what I called an opportunity may seem crass. But you have come back a stronger version of yourself. Look at the changes you are making within our realm. And..." you felt an unwelcome warmth permeate your cheeks. You weren't sure why. "I would like to know love. Like you have. It is all I dream of. If we never tried to steal the Triforce, could I be one among the light? A... Hylian?"
Midna released a conquered sigh. "Alright, Y/N. Because you are one of my best pupils. Because I think you are destined for greatness within our realm. I will award you a trip to the Realm of Light. Under one condition."
You could hardly contain the silly smile that pulled your cheeks tightly back on your face. You weren't sure what was making you react in such a way. Perhaps it was the permission to be part of the light? You read about happiness before. Was this it? So many things you've researched yet didn't experience to understand. Now you would know. Maybe you would be like Midna. You would meet someone like the Hero of Twilight and make the same face when you said his name.
"This will be a homework assignment. When you return you must tell me where the truth lies... within the shadows of darkness or within the illumination of the light."
You didn't realize the difficulty that this assignment would hold.
A/N: Edited 10/23/22
As I write this I am actively working on editing and tying up loose ends within the story. Thank you for being patient to whomever reads this!
Where do you think the truth lies? Within the light or the darkness? There is a theme I'm trying to implement in this story :)

HERO REBORN
Prologue - The Tale of Hyrule
Tumblr media
The Tale of Hyrule
In the centuries long gone, the Kingdom of Hyrule was founded around the light of the mystical Triforce.
Although why it came to the people has been forgotten, its three pieces have been the guides of the land.
The Triforce of Wisdom brought order and law, carried by royalty.
The Triforce of Power gifted them with unfathomable strength.
The Triforce of Courage, although hidden away, provided an era of life and peace.
With Hyrule's leaders possessing the pieces of Wisdom and Power, as well as knowledge of the third's hiding place, they were seen as a beacon among the kingdoms of the earth. It was often that they were turned to in times of dire need.
Unbeknownst to them all, however, a wicked creature lurked in envy– meticulously staging its own calamity.
One fearful night, the moon went awash with blood and the earth trembled.
From the quaking stone, darkness spiraled free. It formed into a horrible beast of Hylian legend… The Demon King, Ganon.
With an army of monsters at his tail, Ganon devastated all in his path. He rampaged to Hyrule Castle, stealing the Triforce of Power from the king and vanquishing him with its uncontrollable might.
With this, Hyrule was plunged into an era of decline.
…But the Triforce of Wisdom was missing.
Although the King did not heed her warning of the events to come, the young Princess of Hyrule stole the Triforce of Wisdom from its chamber in preparation for Ganon's arrival.
By the time the monster had reached her, he could only witness as she shattered the piece into fragments– sending them out into the horizon.
A torturous fate awaited the child, but she did not cave. She knew she had already set an unforeseen destiny into motion.
As she had hoped, a servant had escaped the castle and located a child with boundless courage. Despite his age, the boy braved the monster-ridden regions and slayed whatever creature came in his way. He restored the Triforce of Wisdom and used his built strength to destroy Ganon once and for all.
The young Princess deemed the boy a hero, but knew what Ganon had caused could not be undone. She was forced to take the throne of her late father. Even so, her hero stayed by her side.
When the two grew up, they went on to rebuild the Kingdom of Hyrule and return prosperity to all.
To this day, their legend lives on.
To this day, Hyrule heals.
Update:
Hi! I did not forget this amongst my other projects! However, since the comic is taking some time, I decided to put the story in novelized form as well like I did over on my Untold Myths blog.
Chapter 1 - The Boy's Left Hand
About:
Hero Reborn is a fan reimagining of The Adventure of Link. If you are interested in reading more, the pinned post of this blog has further information.
(#loz hero reborn)
Obligatory Disclaimers:
I, quite obviously, don't own LoZ II: The Adventure of Link. This is simply a fancomic that serves as a loose narrative adaptation of the game, which has little storyline beyond the backstory given by the manual. It is meant to function similarly to the LoZ mangas (which you should read at the next opportunity) and doesn't entirely operate within canon. I wanted to tell a story from one of my favorite games in light of newer installments. You will find a lot of differences between the story and the game itself, but also similarities for obvious reasons. For instance, this Link is a reincarnation of the Hero of Hyrule, rather than the same boy. But this is all just for fun and isn't meant to be taken too seriously. I highly recommend you play the original game, too! It was my first LoZ game and holds a special place in my obsessions. :)

[walks to center stage, snaps out a scroll, and lets the long end roll out to the floor]
Alright this idea is an excuse for me to be very silly but also have a good time. So. @kittyreaper, and the rest of the audience, please enjoy an unfiltered look at what I do when designing an AU and OCs within it.
Because I’m having fun and the initial post gave me ideas, I am calling this the Hot Girl Shit AU. Sometimes I have serious titles, today is not one of those days.
Initial idea: link here
Since Ganondorf’s design was somewhat based on either Zhu Bajie or Fudo Myo-o depending on the game, I wanted to carry some references to that over in Shadow’s design. He’s already got a very good and iconic manga design (purple hair and red eyes), but since I want to emphasize his connection to Ganon and mythic position as the heir of Din in this evil little triforce trio, I figure I can spice him up. Make him look Gerudo, possibly give him a high ponytail, etc.
Shadow was created by Ganon in FSA after he took possession of the Trident of Power and, as far as I can tell, used it somehow on the Mirror of Darkness. Combining a LttP reference and a Twilight Princess reference is indeed a powerful move. So, with Shadow newly resurrected and off the string, I feel like it would be funny to give him a plot device trident of mass destruction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am also severely tempted to give him sleeve tattoos that look like the inscriptions on the TP Mirror of Twilight. To my eternal disappointment, the script doesn’t actually say anything except maybe a misspelled “OPEN” repeated ad infinitum.
Next up: OoT Dark.
He’s the hot one. I want to lean on the fourth wall a little and acknowledge the fact that he was everyone’s fifth grade fictional emo boyfriend. Dark remains clueless, because he’s the reflection of a toddler trapped in a teenager’s body whose sole purpose was to duel, but clueless or not he’s still hot.
White hair, solid red eyes, black clothes, grey-black skin, you know the drill. Since he’s the representative of wisdom and water in the trio, as well as everything the Hero of Time is insecure about, he’s the obligatory Hylian of the group. Or at least he looks like one. Shadow manages to teach him enough shapeshifting to look less like a sleep paralysis demon, and he copies his hero fairly well (keeps the hair), but he still prefers demon form if he can afford it.
Later on in their adventures, because I like causing problems, he manages to update his “reflection” of the Hero of Time and steal the Fierce Deity’s look. In black, naturally. He mostly uses a dark copy of the Master Sword and the Hylian Shield though.
Tumblr media
And then.
Last but certainly not least: Zelda 2, Link’s shadow, here nicknamed Nightmare.
Nightmare gives me a lot of room to play with since he’s mostly flat black pixels shaped like Link’s silhouette. I decided to base his design notes on what I imagine would give the Hero of Hyrule a heart attack, as well as natural inspiration he might get once Shadow explains the wonders of shapeshifting.
They’ve all got mostly grey-black default forms, even Shadow, but Nightmare takes the longest to switch his up. He’s got two major notes to start off with: Hyrule is terrified of bleeding, especially in public; and I imagine he’d be very secretive about his ability to turn into a fairy, out of fear of exploitation. Nightmare doesn’t wish him any ill will, and looked fairly plain during their duel, but during this second chance at life he starts going through a bit of a punk phase and indulging things his counterpart represses/would never do.
So! He shapeshifts freely into a little shadowy fairy whenever he wants, trailing sparks of darkness instead of fairy glitter. His fashion choices point to his fairy side as well as details of his boss room:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I decided one cool column is all the excuse I need to give him a knee-length chiton, also pulling in the neat drape texture of the curtains. His hair is that same light blue because I have a sense of humor. Skin tone mostly matches his counterpart and/or the tan bricks of the boss room, and while he likes to have red eyes to fit in with the other shadows they’ll also occasionally be the ominous magenta of his duel backdrop.
I have a theory that the fight might have taken place inside Hyrule’s mind, which is one explanation for why all the lights go out and then come back on the second he kills Nightmare. So Nightmare can have some spooky and currently undefined mind powers, as a treat. Also for extra fear points, he can have a Great Fairy form.
Hyrule is terrified of bleeding because his blood is a necessary ingredient for reviving Ganon. Nightmare doesn’t actually have the cursed blood, he’s just a nightmare, so he doesn’t have to worry about bleeding. If anything, he actually gets used to the idea of being an individual by just… bleeding at random for the aesthetic. It could be from anywhere, but a slice across the throat is a pretty good reference to what various monsters want to do to drain Hyrule. Nightmare is not only free of that burden, but he’s also a magical creature that can either cast illusions or just might be immune to bleeding out, so. He’s doing hot girl shit.
When he’s not in the mood to be intensely colorful, he’ll switch his hair and chiton to black, and his eyes will mostly stay red. His magic still has a weird magenta or ultraviolet tinge to it, though.
I will make another post at some point to cover my vague plot ideas because I have a hilarious concept to put forward. I’m hoping this post is coherent, I am Very Sleepy.

History of the Zelda Lore
This was inspired by a theory about the "The TetraForce" (link).
I wanted to tackle this, but in order to do so; we need to go through the history of the series' development. (And make a lot of assumptions.)
The first one is that the complete history of a series (any series) especially if it started so long ago, is that it can only really be understood in reverse. This is why it feels like certain things the devs and writers might do; sound Incongruent if they're not keen on the history of the game itself. Because a lot of information can be projected without the author's or dev's intention.
And dev's sometimes believe that the history, or lore, is made up by the fans. Sometimes, they forget what they wrote, but they definitely haven't played their own games with the same sense of wonder as players often do.
That out of the way, check out this: manual page on the triforce from Zelda 1.
In the original game, there were only two pieces of triforce. I do not know if Miyamoto and crew had planned for the third piece, some artwork suggests this may be the case. But AFAIK, The third, the triforce of courage did not exist until Zelda 2 came out.
After Ganon stole the triforce of Power, Zelda split up the triforce of wisdom into 6 pieces. You can see that they resemble the United Triforce, if the middle piece were removed.
Here's what I think about the development and initial creation of the "Triforce". I think the conversation boiled around asking the question: "how do we reward the player for pursuing the goal?"
After all, Zelda was an experimental concept (even tho it's open world concept was inspired by Adventure 1980.) Most games were side scrollers. And other adventure games at the time were Text-Adventures. Since the NES didn't support text adventures (no keyboard) my understanding is that Miyamoto wanted like to bring that concept to a textless environment.
An evolution of sorts.
And in order to inspire the player to explore AND find the dungeons, in order to give the player a reason to "try"--The concept of the "Try Force" was invented. Kind of a macguffin, since the only function the Triforce pieces had at the time was indicating which dungeons the player had completed.
Zelda 2 introduced 2 concepts (as well as inspires the entire Metroid/Vania style of gameplay.) That there was a whole *third* Triforce hidden by the King somewhere. And that post Zelda 1, the royal family decided that *every* maiden (with royal lineage) would be named Zelda in order to obfuscate the *true* successor to the throne.
This was also included in a link to the past, where 9 "Zeldas" were kidnapped by Anaheim. (8 of them were obviously Toad in disguise.)
A side note: The Zelda Cartoon, and the three Zelda games that are never to be mentioned in polite company, kind of did a service to this part of the Lore. They introduced different personalities for different Zeldas. While the *true Zelda* is always depicted as restrained polite and proper. And always concerned for the welfare of the people.
The cartoon Zelda was stuck up, and scantly cared for the poor masses (Such as Link).
(autocorrect doesn't know what scantly means. Not to be confused with scantily clad, or half-dressed)
I'll pause here: By the time Zelda 64 rolls around, we know that the Triforce bearers (power, wisdom, courage) are chosen divinely. That's how we know who the *true* Zelda is. Or the true *Link* or which King is the Usurper.
(autocorrect suggested that there's other transliterations Miyamoto used. Such as changing win-con or win-dom, to wisdom. With the changes between regional games and translational difference being on purpose sometimes... I feel that this is probably correct.)
My theory, is that since Gannon64 had the Triforce of power, either he broke it apart himself by entering the temple of time, and was rewarded with a piece, and the godsesses spread it in order to keep balance, *or* there's some other reason not yet known.
Now, In Super Zelda (the precursor to Super Metroid, but the sequel to Super Mario World) the Triforce is explained as a divine "wish granting" mechanism. "Collect all three, go to the promised land, mold it how you wish, and have one ultimate wish granted to you"
I wonder, if that's the legend of the masses, because they don't actually know what the Triforce is or does, just that royalty *own* it. Regardless, collecting the Triforce allowed the thief Ganon to access the golden realm, and, according to lore; molded it into a dark world.
Where once there was prosperity, Ganondorf is blamed for desolation.
In Zelda 64, Ganon is depicted as king of the desert society; the Gerudo. Where, in other games, the deserts are desolate and devoid of people if not life. There is an entire encampment of people in between the harsh deserts, and the rest of Hyrule.
These Gerudo have their own stories the people of Hyrule whisper about them. Painting them as sex hungry women who don't have enough men to repopulate their kingdom. And their leader as having stolen that which Hyrule needs to be prosperous.
Nevermind that he somehow figured out how to break an unbreakable divine seal that has opened for nobody else. He is but a simple thief, and the reason for the kingdom's downturn.
Although, he did chase the royals out of town and caused the dark future to happen. So, half a dozen. Sometimes negative rumors cause bad things to happen.
"Give me the power to change the world, the wisdom to know when not to use it, and the courage not to react when it is necessary."
So what does "A link to the past mean" if Z64 was about the future?
Theories suggest that starting with alttp, Nintendo and Miyamoto started going backwards in the Zelda timeline. Each subsequent Zelda being a prequel to the last and ending with (or rather beginning?) With Skyward sword.
The backstory to Skyward Sword is really Dark, there's a whole official manga where Link is imprisoned and tortured. Funnily enough, *that* Link resembles the depiction of Fierce Diety Link in Majora's Mask.
Suggesting, *that* particular Link, did not make it out.
Years later, Nintendo releases a sequel to that SNES game: "A link between worlds". In order to reiterate a common theme in every single game.
The Alternate Universe, Or the Shadow World, Or the Mirror World, Or the Twilight Realm, or the Golden Realm, or the Dark World, or even the Underworld. (The dungeons in Z1 were described not as separate underground structures, but different parts of what was called "The Underworld". This was reinforced in the Zelda Cartoon, as Ganon's Lair being somewhere between Skeletor's and the Legion of Doom's. This implies that all the dungeons were connected in this "underworld" but only accessible from the "overworld" or "light world")
In Z64 the Future World. In Majora's Mask, a literal upside down world. (Because the Triforce is depicted in Termina as upside down, as well as other puzzle elements that force the player into upsidedown situations. Like the Sky Temple).
These different worlds were supposedly actually depicted as alternate timelines. Three of which, based on which (major) piece of the Triforce existed in that timeline. The world of Power (Heros Demise), the world of Wisdom (Waterworld, starring Kevin Costner), and the world of Courage, (run by furries). You can look it up on the official timeline.
As we reach Breathe of the Wild, theories suggested that this is "The Reunification" of the three timelines. A de facto sequel to all three timelines, but in the same game. And there's evidence to this theory, a lot of it.
But here's what I think; BOTW is a reboot of the entire Zelda Series. A return to form. The dev team literally made a mockup of the original Zelda game as a kind of alpha test for BOTW.
And what I think; is that one of those three timelines is created depending on how the player, or Link, beats the game. There are alternate endings after all.
The Power Ending. or Power Gamer. The player who wants to beat the game 3 hearts, no gear, 360 no scope. Gliding directly from the plateau to the castle and beating Gannon with nothing but a bundle of hardwood and rusty equipment.
The Wisdom Ending. The Player who took time to study the lore, the history, and decide what to do with the castle at the center of all. Yes, this is evil, it must be defeated, let us prepare for the battle ahead.
And the Courage Ending. The ending, for the player who took the time to collect the Golden Poop from the Koroks.
"Duh, Evil is secured under the castle, what do you need me for? I'm gonna hone my skill, collect shinies, and do whatever I feel like until there's nothing left to do but save the day. Because what threat *is* there?" - Shadow Link, Presumably
The Courage, to do nothing but explore and enjoy the game.
Like the secret ending in Adventure (and to a lesser extent; Ready Player 1)

thank you so much for the ask!!
I decided to answer the second one first since talking about OCs might take a while…
Rambles (and art!!) under the cut :)
I have a few different answers to this one! I definitely draw Legend from linked universe the most, but my favorite to draw is Link from Skyward Sword (both his normal design and his linked universe one)! But that is just when it comes to faces! My favorite outfit to draw at the moment is ALTTP Zelda’s!
and now on to the dreaded topic of OCs… I have a LOT. Some are connected to a loz au I’m sort of working on every once in a while and the other’s are from an original story that’s been fermenting in my brain since middle school… their designs aren’t finalized and neither are their personalities for the most part. I guess I’ll tell you about some from each?
Tumblr media
ok! Here are Zelda and Link from my au! (These designs are months old and I’ll probably redo them completely at some point)
I don’t have much of the plot and personalities determined yet, with the exception of Zelda’s. She is pretty young and naive at the beginning, and is pretty timid too! She has to grow out of herself a lot and once she moves past her shyness she has a fiery spirit and a strong sense of joy at discovering the world around her. She is also a menace. You’d almost think she’d have the triforce of courage, but she still wields wisdom, though in a more decisive, instinctual way (almost like she is just following her gut) Sheik is a disguise she uses partly to hide from Ganondorf, and partly because she wants Link to think of her as someone more than the scared little girl he rescued a year earlier. Link, on the other hand, I have no idea how to portray. Much like Ganondorf in this au, his personality eludes me. I do know he is a bit grumpier and pretty serious, and has travelled all his life.
I don’t want to write too much, but I do have a lot of ✨thoughts✨ about them, if anyone is curious!
and as for my actually original OCs, I don’t have any good examples of their designs…
I don’t want to describe the entire plot, so I can’t explain most of the characters at all XD
my main villain however (tho he’s not exactly a villain), I can talk about! So the story is set in a sort of fantasy sort of medieval setting but the poor guy (I haven’t figured out a name for him yet) got sealed away for centuries… he used to be the chieftain of the nomadic tribe that dominated the island they live on, but centuries later with a king on the throne he is a bit out of place! (and also furious about losing everything he knew and loved) His main motivation is revenge against those who (to him) usurped his power and killed his wife and their yet to be born son. He is not at all aware that he is in the future and the very usurpers he seeks to destroy are his own descendants.
personality-wise, he’s a little out of his mind, and has a very sharp wit. He is very barbaric and a bit wild, but carries himself like a king. He has a lot of traits of the classic cool and calculating villain, but his main motivation is the love for his family twisted into a primal rage. When he’s angry he becomes hysterical and tends to speak almost softly, almost laughing, before exploding into anger.
oh, and he’s not exactly human anymore. He’s at this point, and through no fault of his own, basically sentient black mist that can talk and change form. He chooses to stay in the form of his human self however, but looks less so the more he gives up what humanity he has left.
he’s probably my favorite part of the story tbh.
ok! That’s it!! Hope I didn’t dump to much info about my OCs; I wasn’t sure how much to share…

oh i am so about to become an unskippable cutscene. ok so
my zeldaverse concept is that they all get stuck in the time AFTER the golden goddesses made hyrule but BEFORE hylias creation. each zelda has a varying amount of time since their adventure ended (i.e. totk zelda has been back home for a little less than a month. st zelda is in the MIDDLE of her adventure. sheik only sent link back to her time a week ago. its been 9 months since midna left tp zelda. zelda i zel's adventure ended 5 years ago and her great aunt from zelda ii ended one year ago. etc etc). the idea is that they all wanna get home, so they decide to try and use the triforce, but none of them know which one would be Worthy of it (as in having power wisdom courage). they go to termina [sksw zeldas idea. shes reaaaally trying not to let on shes hylia but still wants to be helpful] bc the fierce deity is their best shot at knowing which one can do it. FD (who appears as their links to each one of them respectively as to "present as something theyre more familiar with." ie botw zelda sees botw link, tp zel sees tp link, etc etc. they end up changing into malon for sheik bc hes still got baggage over link and impa and anyone else so FD chooses someone he barely knows instead.)
anyways FD tells them that all of them are capable of it if they focus in but their best bets are sheik, botw zelda, tetra, and hilda + albw zelda if they do it together (one from each branch of the timeline. kind of). so the gang splits off to find the triforce and erm yeah 🕺💃
also theres two oot zeldas. one for the adult timeline (sheik) and one for the child timeline, who never knew the horrors of war and got to know oot link unlike sheik. oops.
anyways herez my names wooooo (also they all chose them themselves hehe)
BOTW/TOTK - Coreulea (part of the scientific name of wild blueheart tulips which are the closest visually to silent princesses irl, so. shes named after her fav flower...)
OOT (ADULT) - Sheik (later Sage. this zelda awoke as the leader of the sages while the other oot zelda did not have to.)
OOT (CHILD) - Coda (the part of a song where you go back and repeat a portion you've already played before. get it. Coda says she wants something music related and Sheik is the one to suggest the name to her.)
MINISH CAP - Stonie/Quartzie (what her link calls her! used to think it was mean but shes rlly missing him so ..)
TP - Archer (bow of light. prefers to be called 'the archer' specifically if possible, lol)
ALBW - Hilda and Hue (like color. like painting. Hue liked the alliteration of their names hehe)
ALTTP - Maiden (describes herself as a maiden in game. theres more to it but ohhgh thatd require a lot of analysis and this is already so looong)
ZELDA I - Ura (in the og game u had another mode called ura zeruda after u beat the game which literally translated to "other zelda." its a little joke abt how many zeldas there are! she chose it bc its her real first name; zeldas only her middle name!)
ZELDA II - Somnia (from "insomnia." also the name her family uses to differentiate her from her great great niece. she thinks its pretty, if a little on the nose, but she cant blame her relatives for being that uncreative when shes been dead for 100 years, took the money they gave her to not claim the throne, and ran off with her boytoy lmaooo)
WW/PH - Tetra. she wanted a silly nickname too though so they will also respond to Captain
SPIRIT TRACKS - Spectra (like spectral! shes still a ghost here and has a good sense of humor abt it!)
SKSW - Lyre (another name for harp and sounds like "liar" because shes got a bit of a track record for not being entirely truthful about who she is ,,,,)
bonus zeldas who dont appear but i love them anyway:
80S CARTOON - Fresh/Freshie (MY DESIGN GIVES HER SCRUNCHIES AND LEGWARMERS💥) (AND SHE TALKS WITH 80S SLANG OK SORRY)
CDI GAMES - Gamelon
Mario Kart - Chassis [pronounced chass- ee] (Link's pitstop captain! no thats not how mk works. no i do not care <3)
SSBU - Hitbox
ok cutscene over. thank u 👍
YOOOOOOOOO your zeldaverse concept sounds so cool!! I've never even thought of the idea of time travelling to after the golden goddesses created everything but before Hylia's creation! :O that's such an interesting time period, I've never really thought about all that.....
Also them going to the fierce deity is so cool cause I have so many questions!! How does sksw Zelda know of the fierce deity? Does she have memories of him during her time as Hylia? Does fierce deity recognize her? If he does, does he willingly keep her secret from the rest of the Zelda's as he's correctly guessed that she's hiding it? How does the fierce deity correcting know of just who would be the most familiar to present as and does he know of all the Link's?
There's just so many questions and it's so funnnnnn to think about!! Also I like how he says that all of them are capable but Sheik, botw Zelda, Tetra, and Hilda are the most capable of wielding the full triforce... while sksw Zelda is right there... HMMMMMMMM........ sksw Zelda I have questions for you but I fear if I speak any of them out loud you'll combust <3333 love her though <333
The choices for all the Zelda's is so fun and cool to! I've never really thought about including both oot child and adult! I can most definitely see that being a major source of pain and angst for Sheik and I'm just super curious about Coda would react to that :o also I'm just a fan of such Zelda incarnations such as MARIO KART and SUPER SMASH BROS being involved in the middle of this.
idk that's just great to me, peak vibes, ideal even, CDi is also here SJSJJSJS
also?? These names are so so damn cute?? Genuine question, would you be okay with me using some of them? They're just that damn good but I totally understand if you would rather me not! I'm particularly in love with Coreulea for botw Zelda and Lyre for sksw Zelda <333 that's so so good and fits them so well, what da Hell.......
Also just to respond to your other ask here- I'd love to hear you talk about their personalities!! Lowkey I'm so happy that you decided to include spirit tracks Zelda, she's so underrated and amazing I love her a lot :((( and Spectra as her name?? That's so, so, I'm having a moment that's so damn CUTE

I've figured out who most of your oc Links are, but not all of them, do you have a list with all of them somewhere? They all seem really fun :)
*squealing* AH YES THANK YOU FOR ASKING :D
I actually don't have a list of them all together, the closest I had was a post I made about their Hero titles, so I'll just do it here! :D
Orik/Link, Hero of Power - Half-Sheikah, Half-Hylian. Raised in Sheikah culture as a warrior, helps protect the royal family. Becomes friends with Princess Zelda as he's often assigned to protect the castle and she's essentially imprisoned there by her father. Falls in love with the Gerudo chief's daughter, Hemisi. Starts to get involved with Hemisi's family, including her father, Ganondorf, but things fall apart when Gan decides to ruin everything and try to steal the Triforce. It splits, predictably, and Link gets the Triforce of Courage. Fights in the ensuing war that breaks out and helps defeat Ganon, using the Triforce alongside Zelda (Wisdom) and Hemisi (Power) to split his soul and seal him away. Despite being engaged to Hemisi, the damage to Hyrule from the war forces him to marry Zelda instead to help stabilize the kingdom. Soft spoken, extremely duty oriented, kindhearted and sensitive with a playful nature that usually stays hidden unless he's with friends. Super light blonde hair that he usually keeps in a top knot, tan skin, red eyes. He has two names, Orik is his Sheikah name given by his father, Link is his Hylian name from his mother. Predecessor to Hyrule Warriors Link.
Link, Hero of Shadow - Whereas the Hero of Power is from the Calamity timeline, Shadow is from the TotK timeline! (spoiler talk ahead!) Same Link, slightly different life. Still half-Sheikah half-Hylian, started his journey as a warrior/assassin of the royal family much younger and met Hemisi much younger. Was officially engaged to Hemisi before the war ever started, and essentially adopted by Ganondorf and Nabooru as a result. Died during the war protecting Rauru from a killing blow from Ganondorf. He died in Gan's arms, begging him to stop the insanity, and then stabbed Gan with a light shard in his chest, which Rauru later used in the same fight to seal him away for 10k years. Is resurrected by Ganondorf's power 10k years later and is under his control, trying to fight against him through manipulation. Much more stoic than his Calamity counterpart, but also consequently more sensitive and childlike - he's been serving as a fighter since he was 12 and is a little emotionally stunted as a result. He is majorly attention starved, and Gan knows this. They both try to manipulate each other to see who wins out. Died when he was 15.
Mystery Link/Sir Edgy, Hero of Spirits - The eldest and most introverted of all the OC Links, he's 25 and 100% Done with Destiny. He went on his first adventure when he was 17, saving the world, and then went on to save other lands and lately help local areas out. He prefers smaller missions, enjoying seeing the impact it makes, but he's honestly just tired and too afraid to lose anything or anyone else. As a result, he self isolates a lot. It's just him and his trusty chocolate Labrador, who he technically named Friend because he sucks at names but he gives her every nickname under the sun, including the Chocolate Chonkster. He originally wielded the Triforce of Courage during his first adventure, and returned it with all the Triforce pieces when he was done. He lives in the woods, avoiding interacting with people as much as possible, until Princess Zelda starts searching for him because she senses danger and accidentally splits the Triforce. She knows she has to find the Hero of Hyrule, but no one knows of Link's location or if he's even still alive after disappearing for eight years. He lives simply and is always on the road. Major attachment issues. When the Triforce splits due to Zelda's mishap, he inherits the Triforce of Wisdom, a fact he keeps hidden, though he laments it's appropriate he lost the right to Courage. Is known as the Hero of Spirits because he can interact with magical spirits, including accidentally reviving Ghirahim (he tried to get rid of the sword by throwing it into a volcano but it bounced off a Goron's head and landed in a hot spring and Ghirahim liked the place so much he stayed there for a year) and meeting the Soul of the Hero. Is very sassy, because dark humor and deadpanning are what preserve his cold, isolated soul. That and playing with Friend. Blonde hair tied back in a little ponytail, lighter skin, blue eyes, with a whisp of hair floating over his forehead and off to the side, he's a heartbreaker wherever he goes and he is not a fan of the attention, so he tries to avoid that. Has a fan club in another country when his shirt half tore off during a battle. Doesn't want to talk about it.
Gerudo Link/Fancy Hands - An honorary member of the OC Link club, this boy was named Link to save him from the fate of all other male Gerudos up to this point. Yeah. He's Ganondorf. But he's nice! And he is a massuer by trade. Lives in the same Hyrule/world as Mystery Link. Is dragged into adventure when Princess Zelda goes hunting for the Hero of Hyrule and does so by visiting every single person named Link, which is like... half the kingdom. Link knows of his people's history and tries to keep it on the down low. 100% did not want to dragged into this, but here he is. Will sass Zelda into oblivion as vengeance. He is literally the sassiest Link on this list. He and Mystery Link eventually commiserate and bond over this. Doesn't think himself worthy of the name Link, but admires the Heroes of the past and tries to keep his head down so Destiny leaves him the heck alone. Has loving parents and he writes to them often. Owns a business! The most financially successful Link ever, is decked out in jewelry and half the kingdom adores his work. Might be guilty of tax evasion. 19 years old, dark skin and flaming red hair that he keeps in a braid. Golden eyes, glams himself up with jewelry but he doesn't wear rings so his hands are free for massages. Wears typical Hylian attire.
Lurelin Link, Hero of Champions - A native to Lurelin Village, this Link was born in the aftermath of the Great Calamity. He is the new Hero chosen by the goddesses after Link, Hero of the Wild, was killed by the Calamity. The Hylian Champion stays as a spirit, befriending Lurelin Link to protect him and try to give him emotional support when the time comes. Lurelin is very sweet and somewhat naive, starts his adventuring at 15. He's good at reading people, very empathetic. Adores fishing and is an expert and will talk your ear off about it. Can be timid, doesn't like being in an argument/confrontation with someone. Will fight beasts like a pro, though - he is an adrenaline junkie, he adores adventuring with his spirit friend. Tan skin, black spiky hair that he keeps in a ponytail, optimistic and loving and kind. His biggest challenge yet has been trying to convince his predecessor's father, a bitter and broken knight named Abel, to believe he's the new Hero and tell him where the Master Sword is.

I have a theory and I need to get this out there and idk how much sense this will make by the end but I don't think Ravio was ever meant to be courageous. I don't think Hilda was ever meant to be wise. Lorule has been without a triforce for so long the realm is literally crumbling, so it might be logical to assume they've lost their knowledge of their own triforce to time as well.
I think Lorule's triforce placement isnt the same as Hyrule and even if Hilda succeeded in stealing Hyrule's triforce, it wouldn't work because she assumed the two realms are the same.
Hilda is meant to bear the triforce of courage. How else would you explain her lying to Link and Zelda's faces to steal their triforces, then still trying to beat Link's out of him after she was betrayed by Yuga? Her plan to steal Hyrule's triforce wasn't wise and her failure to do so is a sign that she lacks wisdom, but the plan itself took a hefty amount of bravery to do. She was determined to succeed even if it wasn't the smartest thing to do, which is a hallmark trait of Link's.
Ravio in contrast is the triforce of power. The guy literally slipped and hopped dimensions and is implied to be magically gifted in some regard. Link has such a magical deficit he has to accumulate items in every game in order to progress through dungeons and is only able to get said items because he's brave enough to face those challenges. Which means, if Ravio is a self admitted coward, he couldn't have dungeon crawled to get the various things he uses. Or perhaps going through a dungeon isn't hard for him at all because of his natural power, so he almost collects these things, treating it like finding a cool rock on the ground.
This leaves Yuga as the triforce of wisdom, which I think is fairly self explanatory. He deceives Hilda through and through, and plots to betray her after she's already stolen Zelda's triforce. That's not to say Ganon isn't capable of scheming because he definitely is but Hylia/Zelda's foresight is like playing a game of 5d chess against an AI.
Also, this isn't to say that Yuga is a god reborn like Zelda is, or that Hilda is actually supposed to be the hero, I'm just theorizing that their literal triforce attributes are shuffled around. Hilda is still part of Lorule's theoretical divine based bloodline of royals, Ravio is her hero, etc. Hilda's ancestor(s), the ones who destroyed Lorule's triforce, would have had courage but not wisdom in this theory which may explain why they decided to destroy it in the first place. They lacked the wisdom to know it would eventually destroy the realm, but bravely took that chance in order to keep it from being abused. I'm sure there's some holes in this theory but honestly it's been bugging me for a while.

So is totk another reincarnation or like next Wednesday of botw?? How did thr environment and tech change so much xddd? Oh wait there could be multiple islands or something.
What are the explanations for shrines? Like they're just there for link to rave in
The trifecta or something like those three triangles are what i most see associated with loz. What did they represent??
Which variation of loz game first introduced you to it? Which is your fave?
If link and Finn adventure time met would they be best friends yes or no. Answer THIS ONE now1 bye
GOD BLESS YUOUUUUUU
-totk is a direct sequel to botw! iirc, totk started as botw dlc, but things got so Big they ended up making another game! we dont actually know how much time has passed between the two games, but there are a couple of things that point to it having been a few years.
>Tulin, who was a very young child (think 4 - 7?) in BOTW, is considerably older (10 - 13) in TOTK, as is riju (she went from being 11 - 14 to being 16 - 18).
>purah's age-reversal technology, which first accidentally made her revert to 6 years old in BOTW, has had its kinks worked out and shes back to looking like a very young adult
>major developments in various characters lives and in the various towns ALSO imply times progressed (zeldas moved in with link and has facilitated the creation of a school in Hateno, Paya is now chief of Kakariko, Sidon is engaged, etc etc).
so its not really the next wednesday after BOTW, its more like. a couple of years down the road. i like to think its been 6 years, just bc thats the actual gap of time between botws release and totks release and nintendo has based their game timeframes off of release dates before (splatoon does this a lot)
-if theres an explanation for the shrines in TOTK i donot know it yet <3 for BOTW, the calamity that strikes Hyrule is actually the 2nd time its happened. 10,000 years before botw, calamity ganon struck, and a link and zelda we dont know anything about managed to seal him away. the ancient sheikah of the time had the foresight to be like "omg what if he comes back" and so they made the shrines to help train whatever hero was around when ganon decided to come back in the future. idk why theyre just Gone in botw tho that shit sucks :/
-uaaah the triforce is so fuckinf weird. ok so its a wish making thing made up of 3 parts-- the triforce of power, triforce of courage, and triforce of wisdom (Woaoo spladfest!!!). if u wanna use it, you have to embody those 3 things, and u also have to be a mortal. if u DONT possess those three qualities, the triforce breaks and embeds whatever quality you embody most in you and the other two parts find people to shove themselves into instead. in skyward sword, link goes through a number of trials that help him develop the power, wisdom, and courage he needs, and he's able to make a successful wish. meanwhile in ocarina of time, ganondorf tries to take it, and he gets stuck with the triforce of power while the wisdom and courage parts go attach to zelda and link respectively. the triforce is a little. dumb i think </3 sorry
-my first legend of zelda was skyward sword, but i never got past the first ghirahim battle, so id just... keep restarting, playing to that point, and starting again. i was kind of obsessed with the opening and i would replay just to see the cutscene where Fi leads Link away to the sword in the middle of the night. I got farther in when i replayed it when i was older but i watched Chuggaconroys playthru all the way bc he loves the game as much as I do and shows u all avenues and details :]. my 2nd game was OOT on the 3Ds and i got to the fire temple and did a similar thing of playing thru the first bit and resetting to play over and over again. then beyond that ive played minish cap, twilight princess, hyrule warriors (wii u), wind waker, botw, and now totk. ive been a fan since i was 4-6, so ig ss/oot got me into it? but BOTW reaaally kicked things into high gear for me lmao. honestly what got me REALLY back into it was michpat6's aftermath series on ao3 because it completely recontextualized how i saw the series and its characters. my favorites are, in order; Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, Ocarina of Time, and the Minish Cap!
-ok waiot which. Link. heres wht i think hahehahea;
>wind waker: BESTIES they go on adventurs and be so silly togwtherr!!!! finn talks ab his parents and link talks abt his gma and sister!! they talk abt their nonhuman friends!!!! link shows him how to use the hyoi pears to astral project into the seagulls! bestieeeees!!!!!!
>twilight princess: not sure? TP link gets along great with weird ass kids but idk if that means he genuinely would like 2 chill w a weird ass kid like Finn aushjsa
>BOTW/TOTK: YES but she'd be much more mellowed than Finn. same shenanigans different demeanor yakno. also blond bitches w fucked up ripped off arms and sentient sword gang!!!!!!
>AOC: euurhhhg.no. i think he was a good bit more no nonsense pre calamity but then again he did eat rocks bc someone dared him to and ran like 2 miles bc got his motorcycle hijacked by zelda in this one so idk
>Skyward Sword: he'd be so sooo sweet and like. humor Finn? but unless Finn needed help w anything hed just gently turn down any offers to chill 2gether bc hes sooo focused on other things and the way his swords buzzing tells him he needs 2 get on it
>OOT: ok if hes a kid he'd think Finn is SO COOL but if its adult link i think hed see him as very annoying and would get on his nerves . idk oot link seems very frustrated at all times and like i cant blame him but i think his patience would be very very thin
>Majoras Mask: somewhere in the middle of adult and child links opinions. god knows how long that boys been in a timeloop i think he wouldve learned to appreciate the people around him more than he did as an adult shaped kid back in Hyrule but thats getting into Strawb's Meta Analysis Of Ocarina Of Time/Majoras Mask territory and that would take 5 billion years to explain so i wont here </3
>Minish Cap: tehy have hat. yes. also i read the manga for this one and he acts like sum sort of middle ground between finn and gumball watterson so uauhhhhh ya (nvn)b
>A Link Between Worlds: ok look. i havent played this game. i cannot tell u the plot. what i DO know is that theres this little freak dressed like a rabbit named Ravio who is bizarro Link from a reversed Hyrule called Lorule and im obsessed with him. anuways Ravio and Finn would also be alright buds and Ravio would like. totally cheer Finn on from the background but also he's stealin shit outta Finn's house sowwyyy

❝ They paint the world full of shadows and then tell their children to stay close to light. their light. their reasons... their judgements... because in the darkness, there be dragons. but it isn't true. in the dark, there is discovery. there is possibility. there is… freedom. ❞
Tumblr media
the demon stared at the other across the campfire , through the embers that floated up , up , up into the darkness before fading away into nothing but ash . he listened well to his words ⸻ each word & letter was deeply listened to as he tilted his good side towards him . he speaks true .
almost .
of course he new little of the reasons why those who live in the shadows were casted into the twilight . it was a crime ⸻ one ray saw first hand : attempting to take the triforce . not like he didn't attempt to himself but he was wise enough to not get caught . but who decided it was a crime to do such a task ? of course those in power , those in the light who believe their way is the true & righteous path forwards . the only way forward . the only way . with such thinking they are blind to any other reasoning or judgements . that is their folly ⸻ the refusal to learn & to grow based such biased nature .
god is not on your side , hylians . they made everyone . what makes you think you are destined to rule like a tyrant that deems those who defy you as lessor .
but those in darkness allow their own make similar mistakes . they blame gods for their own follys as well ( like the hylians who believe their gods are the reason for their victories ) . sure , the gods are sick fucks but to point the blade to anyone else expect the goddesses is nonsense . yes , ray asided more with the interlopers but ... ah , no matter . he if is to pick a side he would not pick at all .
light & dark are the same at the end . to forgo one brings naught but one's downfall . to believe you are better than your other is where your hubris grows enough to bring your own fall.
❝ no . there is not freedom in dark nor in light : to think you must choose one or the other is where you & your ilk make their mistakes ... light has just as much horror as the shadows - so bright & dazzling it can blind you . the shadows can drown you in fear such as much as peace ⸻ to exists without the other bring nothing but blindness to truth . ❞
he turns , now looking off into the darkness where the creatures of the night move . owls , rats , bats , wolves ... none of them bothered him . they carry on doing their own tasks ... but people hate them just the same . everything could become someone's bane . regardless , there is a lesson to be learned here . he is sure that link did not have the full picture . ray takes his his finger & draws the triforce into the dirt .
❝ ... the interlopers attempted to take the triforce & were sent the the twilight realm ... another caught out the triforce . ❞ he taps the top of the symbol : the triforce of power . ❝ ... lord ganondorf sought power but for the gerudos that lived within the harsh reality of the desert ... horrible dry heat without mercy ... then set to freeze to death in the night . the hylian king at the time cared little for those in the desert : slaughtered them like animals . called them thieves & hung them in the gallows ... but then , pure power comes to him ... ❞ he draws again , crossing out the other two triforce pieces .
❝ yet the triforce did not agree : he was unbalanced . it sees neither light nor darkness ⸻ good nor evil . it sees nothing but power , wisdom & courage . of course he was gifted power , zelda was given wisdom & link of course ... courage . yet for his crimes he was killed ⸻ or well , the sages tried . then because they could not die to his part of the triforce he was sent the twilight realm ... the hylian king no longer knew why such a place exists : they use it for their own means . ❞ finally , he crosses out power . ray stares down at it for a moment before he slides his hand over & the dirt until his symbols are gone .
❝ ... i suppose i align myself in similar rules as the old relic . i care not for light nor dark . good nor evil . i care if you are strong enough to survive . wise enough to learn from your failures & have enough courage to carry on when the world is against you ...ah , but enough listening to an old man prattling on . ❞
