Weird Food Trivia in my settings:

Grey-Rose: When a vampire drinks Life-Blood, what the Vampire tastes varies, and they often compare it to food, with flavoring depending on the person slurped.

Vivian finds life-blood tastes like Soup, ones with beef-stock as a base specifically. Esther compares life-blood to the apples, and finds other fruits mixed in depending on the drained.

Vampires do need to eat regular food, along with life-blood. Vivian prefers Spicy food, and during her time in cities will make it a point to visit as many different resturants as long as she stays. Ether has autistic sensory issues and prefers her own cooking, where she has absolute control, though most prepackaged stuff is fine (Esther is a rare type who does not mind the military rations).

My SiFi setting:

Every system settlement has bio-domes and green houses that can grow the food required to feed the population that lives there, and expansion of diversity of food-stuff grown is often a priority once the initial settlement is completed.

The Gourmet Guild (a multi-system union of food scientists and workers) governs import/export of specialized foods, ensuring all systems have access to the Joy Of Diverse Food, and helps promote food education.

The Gourmet Guild is also in charge of official experimenting of Combining different foods from across the Galaxy (testing safety and Taste), as well as sharing duties maintaining bio-domes, seed vaults, and more, from plant speacies from across the galaxy. with Alliance scientists.

(Guilds are basically multi-system worker’s unions given official recognition by Galactic Alliance, and include stuff like Writers/Artist Guild, Sex Workers Guild, Recreational Drugs Guild, Cybernetics Guild, and more)

Cultures have moved past the work culture reliance on Caffeine. While some do still drink Coffee and Tea for flavor and the like, no longer do people “Need Caffine” to work (Galactic Socialism, My Dudes)

Denizen said that no one really had affection for Vivian, but…

Grey was comfortable enough to sass her and even outright disobey her orders.

Grey seemed genuinely shocked by how coldly she treated Denizen.

Grey took Vivian’s side when talking to Denizen, even though he sees Denizen as a brother.

Grey got defensive for Vivian’s sake. And usually not just the generic “oh, she’s a Malleus, she knows what she’s doing” arguments; he defended her as a person.

Grey openly criticized her, to the point of insults. He acknowledged how destructive her poor teamwork skills are, that revenge clouded her judgment, that she’s petty and immature. But even after she made a huge number of mistakes that endangered everyone in her cadre, he didn’t stop caring about her. He was angry, yes, but he didn’t stop caring.

Grey chose to try to give her a quick death rather than let her suffer the way he did. The Three apparently told him what they were going to do to her; he opted to kill her himself instead, even though that would very likely get him tortured or killed. And then he was still glad that she survived.

Grey is the only person other than Denizen who called her directly by her first name.

That seems like a lot more than just respect to me. That's seeing and caring about her as a person, flaws and all. That's love.
