Voting is open from 10 September to 1 November, 2023 (11:59 p.m. EDT). You do not need to be a registered KiScon member in order to vote; voting is open to every K/S fan.

In each category there will be a Gold (first place) and a Silver (second place) winner.

The winners will be announced during KiScon 2023 (3-5 Nov). Each winner will receive a certificate and a small prize; we will contact the winners after the convention weekend.

You need to be logged into your Google account in order to submit the voting form; this ensures that people do not vote multiple times for the same work. If we suspect sockpuppet activity, we will get in touch for clarification. We keep the voting process completely confidential! Only the KiScon concom will see the submitted forms.

In each category you can pick one work.

You can submit the form only once, but you can edit your responses if you need to add or change something (just follow the link in the email you receive after submitting the form). You cannot edit your responses after voting has closed, so make sure you have picked your favourite in all categories that are important to you.

Spock fluff alphabet

A = Attractive (What do they find attractive about the other?

Not to be weird, but your face, he just enjoys how expressive it is. When you laugh, smile, sigh in irritation, roll your eyes, or yawn. All of it, he just thinks you’re an adorable human 😍🥰.

B = Baby (Do they want a family? Why/Why not?)

Not at the moment. He only wants one if it seems practical for the current situation. He loves you, but he’s still hyper-logical. He’s not itching to have kids either, so if you don’t want them he doesn’t mind.

C = Cuddle (How do they cuddle?)

He’s not really a cuddler himself, but he understands why physical affection is important to you so he won’t stop you from being affectionate. He’ll definitely reach for your hand though if he starts having uneasy feelings (not that he’ll admit to having feelings most of the time). He’ll never stop you from touching him, but he is a bit hesitant to initiate contact.

D = Dates (What are dates with them like?)

Doesn’t really do dates, but does teach you to play the Vulcan harp. He mostly does it as an excuse for you to sit in his lap 💚😳💚

E = Everything (You are my ____ (e.g. my life, my world…))

Reason. He says that you are his Reason, not like his reason to live, but like his reason, his logic. Highest compliment honestly, he will turn bright green if you mention it.

F = Feelings (When did they know they were in love?)

Basically instantly, or at least there’s an instant attraction. You just radiate this energy that’s unlike anything he’s ever encountered. At first he tries to convince himself that it’s just curiosity and nothing else.

G = Gentle (Are they gentle? If so, how?)

Incredibly, you know until he’s not. He tries to be aware of your feelings and such, but he does have a knack for accidentally hurting people’s feelings with his blatant honesty.

H = Hands (How do they like to hold hands?)

Nervously and with your fingers interlaced . It’s a bit of a nervous habit for him. It could also be that he feels that either he or you are being threatened.

I = Impression (What was their first impression?)

He’s absolutely enthralled. The way you carry yourself and the way you act, it’s like no one is watching, or maybe that you know everyone is but it doesn’t matter to you. He can’t believe the confidence.

J = Jealousy (Do they get jealous easily?)

He sees jealousy as illogical as long as he can tell you care for him still. Although he will get a little fidgety if other people touch your hands.

K = Kiss (How do they kiss? Who initiated the first kiss?)

Rarely, but when he does it’s full of feeling. When he kisses he means it and it’s the only thing he’s focused on. He makes an experience of it, it’s not just a passing thing he does.

L = Love (Who says ‘I love you’ first?)

He does because he does. It’s true so why wouldn’t he say it, it’s one of the times when his blatant honesty comes in handy.

M = Memory (What’s their favourite memory together?)

He loves just to have you around, so his favourite memory is probably the first time you asked if you could spend the night in his quarters. You just couldn’t sleep so he read to you some before you curled into him and fell asleep.

N = Nickel (Do they spoil? Do they buy the person they love everything?)

No, not only does he not see the point in it, but it would also take up a lot of space that neither of you really has in your quarters. Although, on occasion if he sees you eyeing something he’ll buy it for you when you aren’t looking and gift it to you a bit later.

O = Orange (What colour reminds them of their other half?)

It’s pink, that same shade of muted pink that can be seen under your fingernails. It’s because (at first unintentionally, but now on purpose) you always seem to find a way to be fiddling with his or your hands, almost entirely because you know it’ll make him a little fidgety too.

P = Pet names (What pet names do they use?)

Definitely uses T’hy’la quite often, but also uses Darling (almost overly annunciates the whole word). Although he probably just calls you by your name or rank when in public, unless provoked by jealousy

Q = Quaint (What is their favourite non-modern thing?)

Books, but also sheet music, I think the two kind of go together. He’ll read to you from whatever newly acquired book he’s got at the moment. While he’s something of an organised person, I also see him leaving books and sheet music just scattered about his quarters, but in an aesthetic way (🤷‍♀️)

R = Rainy Day (What do they like to do on a rainy day?)

He’s either going to spend that day reading or you’re going to find him playing some dreadfully melancholic tune on his harp (I don’t make the rules).

S = Sad (How do they cheer themselves/others up?)

Will list every reason why it is currently illogical to be sad. If that doesn’t work, as it usually doesn’t, then you can hug him until you feel better. He’s not the best hugger, but he’s really good at letting you hug him.

T = Talking (What do they like to talk about?)

He is really more of a listener, but if you ask him a question with an answer that he knows anything about, he’s a lecturer, will talk for hours about why this button does that.

U = Unencumbered (What helps them relax?)

Probably talking, but not with a purpose. He likes the kind of conversation where you’re talking about everything and nothing, sometimes you’ll stop talking for a few minutes and it’ll just be silent, but then you’ll pick up again like you didn’t stop having the conversation.

V = Vaunt (What do they like to show off? What are they proud of?)

Honestly, I don’t think that he’s super into himself (if that makes sense, like he generally has good self worth, but he’s not very interested in himself, I dunno) point in case it’s you. He’ll go around the Enterprise doing the Vulcan equivalent of “Look what my SO did/made!”

W = Wedding (When, how, where do they propose?)

You’re probably alone, he’ll preface with how it’s not really important to him, but he understands that the tradition is important to humans sometimes, and then he’ll just flatly ask if you like to marry him.

X = Xylophone (what’s their favourite song?)

I have other ideas, but ever since reading this fic, I think it might be

I just can’t stop thinking about it, leave me alone. I have this entire playlist of Spock type music if anyone cares to have a look. Y = Yes (Do they ever think of getting married/proposing?)

Sort of, sometimes, but mostly he focuses on what needs doing right now. It is a thought has frequently though when he’s finally got time to himself.

Z = Zebra (If they wanted a pet, what would they get?)

He doesn’t really see the point in having a pet. If you want one though he’ll be okay with pretty much anything that isn’t reptilian. Probably ends up with a cat that he won’t admit he loves.

Differences between day to day life on Vulcan and on Earth

• Weekdays

On Earth, traditionally, week lasts seven days. Typically, five of those are working days and two are not. On Vulcan, the week lasts five days, honoring the five basic tenets of Vulcan philosophy (See: 'Surak's Construct'). Four days are working days, and one is a free day. It is meant to honor the fifth tenet - privacy, as it allows a person to tend to their private affairs.

• Workday

On Earth an average working day would last eight hours out of the twenty four there are in the day. On Vulcan, the day is slightly longer, but the average Vulcan still works about eight hours a day. That is, however, often divided into two four hour periods with a two hour break in the middle, when the temperature piques. It is a well liked carry over from times before climate. control.

• Meals

On Earth, the typical schedule includes two bigger meals, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Due to the high temperatures many Vulcan regions reach in mid-day and Vulcan physiology, it is customary to eat two meals during the day, one early in the morning and one late in the evening.

Meals are usually taken in silence, however, conversation is commonplace when only drinking beverages.

High and low tables are equally common on Vulcan, however the low table setting is considered more traditional and hence, formal.

The idea of 'cocktail party' has been introduced to Vulcans early in the Earth-Vulcan relations, however, it didn't stick, mostly due to the fact that the art of dividing time between eating and talking was never discovered on the planet. During the few that did take place, most of the Vulcan guests either talked and didn't eat or ate and didn't talk.

As it is custom on Vulcan to avoid touching food with one's hands, there are many more kinds of utensils that enable one to eat almost every conceivable type of food that way.

• Letters

Vulcan has, essentially, four separate alphabets - El'ru-Kitaun (handwriting), Vanu-Tanaf-Kitaun (calligraphy), Gotavlu-Zukitan (standard print) and a modernized print that gains popularity in bigger cities. While most citizens are capable of reading all of them, it is common for city residents to only be able to write in calligraphic script by hand, as every-day handwriting is not as popular there as it is in rural regions.

• Clothes

It is, to say the least, not customary for adult Vulcans to wear split garments in a way that is visible. If one is wearing any kind of trousers or bloomers, it would ussually remain hidden underneath a long robe. The only circumstances, in which it wouldn't be considered a bit unusual to wear visible trousers are sports, manual labor, travel by foot or on beastback, and work in which loose fabric could cause danger, for example on a space vessel That is the reason for the skin tight garments commonly worn by the crews of Vulcan spaceships.

• Windows

It is something that might easily confuse and Earthling, but Vulcan buildings often lack glass in the windows. It is very common, especially in houses, that windows are only covered with curtains, as it allows better air circulation without unnecessary air conditioning. Glass is, however, used in a different manner. Many houses have a basement with a glass roof, functioning as an indoor greenhouse.

• Holidays

Vulcan Clan holidays (weddings, betrothal, historic anniversaries, successful kahs'wan celebrations, etc.) as opposed to the common holidays, which are ussually celebrated in private, are typically long and involve gathering tens or even hundreds of people in a Clan Home. (It is a big building belonging to someone in the clan, most often the Matriarch. Every member of the Clan has the right to come and stay there however long they please.) If the Clan Home is too small by itself, tents would be put up on the grounds.

Vulcan employers are typically very liberal with granting leaves of absence for Clan/House/Family reasons (Vulcan, similarly to Earth, is considered to be a post-scarcity world, so with the exception of people bound by contracts eg. Starfleet, the majority doesn't strictly need to work. It has its benefits, of course but missing a few weeks worth of pay doesn't change much.), so one can often expect to stay at such celebration for days, or in some cases, weeks.

• Laundry:

Vulcans have a slightly different attitude towards it then the one cultivated on Earth. Outermost garments are generally only washed if they get dirty and even then, they would ussually be only spot cleaned with water and detergent. Traditionally, one would only wash their underwear with water, while the rest of the clothes would be regularly aired and layed out in the sun. While in the modern day, sonic cleaners are getting more and more popular, the traditional route is still very much in use, as it is very much sufficient to maintain both hygiene and neatness.

Does anybody actually do Vulcan calligraphy? Like, freehand, on paper?

It's so lovely and I'm into both calligraphy and alphabets so I thought I'd pick it up, but good LORD it is difficult. Very typical of Vulcans tbh.

I mean look at this, what a mess.

Anyway if anybody has any tips or tutorials or suggestions about what kind of writing implement to use, I am all (pointy) ears.

Time once again for my bullet journal setup! I decided to step out of my comfort zone once again, this time by attempting a fancy font.

I wanted to do something geeky specifically for this month, because we’re going to our first post-pandemic convention during the last weekend in April. My husband suggested Star Trek, so I decided I had to do the Star Trek font. This was especially challenging for me because my normal handwriting can best be described as “legible” on a good day. I think it came out pretty well, but I did sketch it out, and then outlined in fineliner, and then colored it in. I had an example of the whole alphabet as a reference, which helped a lot.

For the Vulcan salute, I just traced around my hand. It helps that (A) I can do the salute with either hand and (B) I’m left-handed.

Since the lettering takes so much time (and space..no pun intended) I kept the rest of the decorative elements pretty minimal. I added a Starfleet insignia with the science logo for Spock.

I was toying with the idea of doing an all black-and-white setup, but aft I finished the title page I decided it needed some color. I went with red, gold, and blue for engineering, command, and science.

These next two spreads are my monthly trackers. The first page is where I write down fun or exciting things from my day. I usually call it my daily highlights, but I had to go with “Captain’s Log” for this month to fit the theme. I also added Kirk’s command insignia. I did look up if there’s an “official” way to calculate Starfleet dates, but the answer was either “no” or “it’s complicated,” so I just went with a year-dot-month format.

I’m doing Dutch doors for my weekly spreads—I trimmed off the edges of the pages so I’ll be able to see the “to do” and “C2E2” columns no matter what week I’m looking at.

You can kind of see the edge of the Dutch door better in this shot.

Ooh, good question! For Shinra, I think he'd actually enjoy teaming up WITH Arthur to go after somebody - it's a nice change of pace from them usually going after each other, hehehe. I think the same could go for Arthur, but if Shinra was the lee in question, then he'd team up with Vulcan or Maki (not to be confused with Tamaki) because they're both strong enough to keep up with him. (Poor Shinra wouldn't stand a chance!)

Q: Question | Their response to the question ‘are you ticklish’?

Shinra: Would get flustered and stammer a little bit before shyly admitting that yeah, he is - then he'd tense up a bit to see if the person asking is about to test it out. (Although I feel like when Arthur asked him this question he was like "what?! no way! that doesn't work on me!" *proceeds to eat his words*)

Arthur: ALWAYS denies it. Always! Even if whoever is asking KNOWS he's lying. He's a mighty knight king! He does not fall prey to such antics! (he definitely does)

R: Role | Lee or ler, what is generally their main role?

Shinra: This is such a tough question, because I can see Shinra being totally 50/50 either way? But I suppose he'd fall more on the ler side overall - his goal is to be a hero and make people happy, right? Right!

Arthur: This boy ends up being a lee waaay more than he would prefer, but not by choice! Everyone at Company 8 just thinks it's so much fun to tickle him into a bit of humility for a change. He prefers being the ler, but at the end of the day, he just can't catch a break.

I began learning golic vulcan a couple days ago and it seems that Spock's name has been misspelled throughout his whole life?? Turns out the federation universal translator goofs up regularly, misplacing letters and adding some that doesn't even exist on the vulcan alphabet, like C for example. But i also get him for not bringing the issue because being named Spahkh is kinda embarrassing already.

Man, it has been a while since I wrote for Rygel, even longer for an alphabet!

Affection: How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get?

Rygel doesn't really have touch as one of his love languages. His species is somewhat similar to Vulcans, as they don't really don't emotions as much as humans. For those unaware Rygel's species have soulmates of sorts, that depends on each other's minds. Pretty much this means his species only really feel anything towards their mates, parents, and childrens.

His affection isn't really visible. Rygel has extreme psychokinetic powers, and uses these to show affection. Expect to constanly feel his psychic powers caressing you, placing kisses along your body, playing with your hair, etc.

He also just likes spending time with you and doing acts of love. He helps you reach books, things like that. Which is saying a lot because of his sheer hatred for pretty much anyone that isn't you.

Blood: How messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling?

Rygel doesn't do messy. But that doesn't mean he won't kill for you. The opposite, actually.

Rygel's people are conquerors of the universe, and he is their emperor. He sees the human species as a lacking species (except you, darling~ ♡)

He essentially has an entire army and death rays at his command, he will not hesitate to use them.

But he will not get bloody. He is a very neat and tidy person. He will just use his mind powers, or have someone else do it. You should be honored that he even considered personally taking care of a human being for you.

Cruelty: How would they treat their darling once abducted? Would they mock them?

Rygel isn't the nicest, but not necessarily cruel. You would probably just be limited to his chambers on his ship, with a few rooms you can access outside it. He has endless entertainment for you, and treats you to many vacations across the galaxy. He would never hurt you or say hurtful words, he's just somewhat monotone with his words. This can cause you to even question if he has a prefrence to you at all. But I assure you, he can be very poetic and romantic with his words when he wishes. It just doesn't quite come naturally.

Darling: Aside from abduction, would they do anything against their darling’s will?

They will do hugs and kisses. That's it, really. He'll maybe move you around or hold you in place with his mind powers, but that's about it. Doesn't really kiss on the lips much either. Sometimes he can read your thoughts and invade your dreams.

Exposed: How much of their heart do they bare to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?

Rygel has nothing to be vulnerable about. He will talk out his plans with you, as he sees no need to keep you in the dark once abducted. You are to be empress, and you are powerless to stop him in whatever plans he has.

Fight: How would they feel if their darling fought back?

Humorous. It may get a bit of a chuckle out of him. What a feat. You will give in eventually, he is not worried about your lashing out.

Game: Is this a game to them? How much would they enjoy watching their darling try to escape?

Sometimes it's a bit of a game, if he's bored. But for the most part any escape attempt is swiftly cut short.

Hell: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them?

Isolation. He can easily just leave you in his chambers for days. Or he'll just make you watch as he destroys entire planets.

Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling?

Rygel's people do not do marriage. Once you feel the mating connection and find them, you are forever connected. You will be his empress and you will rear some children. He will conquer the universe, with you by his side.

Jealousy: Do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope?

Rygel does not like any male really touching or talking to you. This is even worse when he sees humans talking to you. He knows you are the same species, but he doesn't need such scum trying to ruin you. His psychokinesis will swiftly pulling you into him, and you shall walk away with him. If they are insistent he will deal with him in the torture chambers and break their minds until they become a shell of their former selves, maybe he'll turn them into slaves for you.

Kisses: How do they act around or with their darling?

He is much nicer around you. You're like the one person he doesn't actively dislike. He never says anything downgrading to you, and is actually nice. If you are around he'll probably lean into you, and complain about whoever he's had to deal with. You're pretty much the one person who can tell him to do something, and he will do it.

You can prattle on, and he will actually listen.

Love letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling?

So this may be touched on in a later story (wishful thinking probs tho) Rygel may start to reach out with dreams, then somewhat reaches out in the real world. You may receive love letters, and flowers from his alien planet. Until one day he just kinda tells you that you are now mates.

Mask: Are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else?

To be honest, he's fairly blunt with everyone. Mind you he obviously doesn't inform anyone on else about him being an alien, but he doesn't really act nice to anyone.

Naughty: How would they punish their darling?

His psychokinesis has it's ways to deal with you. Isolation, messing with your mind, your body, if it's really bad he can give you nightmares.

Oppression: How many rights would they take away from their darling?

Mostly independence. Most of the time you will be limited to his ship or one of his palaces. But, will take you anywhere you wish to see in the galaxy. The stars and universe are your playground. But, it's only your playground because he allows it. You'll have to enjoy it with him. You are either with him, or his chambers. No outside ventures with just guard escorts.

Patience: How patient are they with their darling?

He's pretty patient. He has an eternity to get you to love him back. His species is not prone to something as simple as impatience. Besides, the mating bond definitely effects you as well. Eventually you'll grow more fond of him.

If worse comes to worse he'll just break your mind into itty-bitty pieces and rebuild you as he likes.

Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?

Rygel's people tend to die when their mate dies.

Regret: Would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling? Would they ever let their darling go?

No. Rygel's species does not suffer from guilt.

Stigma: What brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?

It is merely his biology, and who he is. He is an all powerful conquering emperor. Simply as that.

Tears: How do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves?

He can't stand seeing you cry. It's- annoying for one and his mind can sense when yours's is in such distress. Isolating is more so seen as annoying, but if he wishes he could rather easily pluck you from your hiding spot.

Unique: Would they do anything different from the classic yandere?

Vice: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?

Wit’s end: Would they ever hurt their darling?

No. None of my yanderes ever would as that is by far my biggest ick.

Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?

He would go rather far to do what needs to fully win you over. Or at least, what he thinks will win you over. He isn't desperate, though.

Yearn: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap?

However long he deems is suitable for you to figure out he is an alien. If you figure it out by then, great and approach him about, that's probably when he'll go for it.

Zenith: Would they ever break their darling?

Rygel has extenstive psychic powers. This includes invading your mind. It makes it rather easy for him to essentially brainwash you into whatever he wants. But this is something he really doesn't deem necessary, as the mating bond will work eventually.
