why hadestown was literally one of the best shows i've ever seen

so i saw hadestown this past saturday for the first time ever and when i tell you i have never been so emotionally wrecked by a broadway show before

so i've compiled a little list of my favorite things from the show!!

act 1:

orpheus doing the stomping cues for the opening with hermes... that's his mom your honor!!!

"his mama was a friend of mine" THAT LINE WHEN LILLIAS WHITE VOICED CALLIOPE IN THE DISNEY HERCULES MOVIE I LOVE LITTLE THINGS LIKE THAT LIKE ORPHEUS' MOM REALLY IS ONE OF HER FRIENDS

short king orpheus and tall wife eurydice supremacy

jordan fisher was SUCH a sweet and silly orpheus, like he was fully tripping over himself around eurydice the entire first act

LOVE the chorus so so much

eurydice being so cynical until she sees what orpheus can do and then immediately falling for him

they're the definition of "he fell first, she fell harder"

also during "wedding song", orpheus continues to reach out to eurydice, and then during "all i've ever known", the way she reaches out to him but it's so hesitant and awkward, but orpheus just beams and immediately holds onto her 😭

hades and persephone were playing dominoes up on their little balcony and they actually looked so in love until orpheus started the epic, such good bg character acting

lillias white and betty who said mama bears hermes and persephone supremacy!!!

persephone #1 wingwoman she wants these two idiots to get married immediately

the entirety of "way down hadestown" with eurydice and orpheus being giggly and in love!! they're so so oblivious and focused on each other, just the most innocent love

adding onto the fact that jordan is shorter than both solea and phillip the moment where he jumps between them at the end of the song was so silly

i really love the detail that orpheus stays on stage for "a gathering storm" and the rest of the act, he's so focused on his work and doesn't notice anything

i was worried "wait for me" wouldn't live up to the hype but OH MY GOD OH MY GODDDDDDDD

the little details between hades and persephone, with them shifting from how they were acting in the balcony to persephone barely being able to reach out to hades

act 2:

love that eurydice is naive like orpheus, but in a cynical way

holy SHIT solea my beloved "flowers" was actually godlike

what if i lost my mind at how gentle orpheus was when he found eurydice... what if...

the way eurydice drew back when hades told orpheus that she went with him willingly, like she was ready for him to be angry at her... the way he went right back to her and was checking to make sure she was okay

literally started sobbing during "if it's true", the way orpheus gets angry in a way we haven't seen, and the chorus + eurydice join with him

when the chorus removed their caps and became people again... i was a wreck for the rest of the act ngl

"epic 3" or as i like to call it the "hey look at how hard i can cry" song

orpheus comparing himself to hades, and it being so emotional because we see how innocent and happy he is, how he loves so much, and has so much hope, and seeing how hades had become, and knowing that without eurydice, that's how orpheus becomes, giving up on love and life until he's killed

HADES AND PERSEPHONE DANCING 😭😭 THEY WERE SO PLAYFUL AND HAPPY

jordan and solea were just... the most amazing orpheus and eurydice. they just had such sweet chemistry, and "wait for me" reprise with them reaching for each other UGH

the way you could hear orpheus quietly crying as hermes began to sing the "road to hell" reprise somebody sedate me

IT'S ABOUT SINGING THE SAD SONG AND CONTINUING TO HAVE HOPE THAT IT'LL TURN OUT HAPPY THIS TIME

the only reason i didn't completely decompose is because the knowledge that in the myth, when orpheus dies, hades gives orpheus and eurydice their memories back, and they get to be together, happily, in the underworld.

anyways if i had the money and it was possible i'd fully go see hadestown over and over and over again because it just was so beautiful and impactful plus i'm a sucker for good greek mythology retellings

Enid sprints to the house on the edge of the forest, barely stopping herself from slamming through it. She pounds on it with a hand.

"Yoko! Yoko, I got date gossip, open up!"

When Yoko opens the door, she has all of 2 seconds to yelp before she's bear hugged and picked up and spun around.

"The date went so well, Yoko! So. Fucking. Well!"

"Uh-huh, I got that, Pup. Put me down?" "Oh, sorry!" Enid places her down quickly, flushing.

"It's not okay!" Yoko turns into the house and starts walking to the kitchen. "You always make me feel so fuckin' small." Enid follows her, not having to duck under the doorway.

"I'm just big!"

"Divina, Pup's come over with gossip!" She sing-songs into the hall, before turning the corner and leading Enid into the kitchen.

"I'll be out in a few minutes! Start without me and neither of you get forehead kisses for a month!" Yoko turns to Enid with fear on her face, Enid is sure her face mirrors. Yoko makes a comedically loud gulp! and turns into the kitchen, walking in.

"We've been seeing an uptick in crows lately," Yoko remarks, "think it's your lady love making sure we don't kill you?"

Enid chortles. "Maybe!" She taps her fingers on her thighs anxiously.

"The date went so well! Ya think she likes me?"

Yoko scoffs, then points over to the pantry. She picks the kettle off the stove, then leans down and puts it in their little running river. "Grab our teas?" "Sure."

She can hear the metal clink! of the kettle hitting the stone stove as she digs through the little glass bowl the two keep full of tea. She grabs their favorite teas for the special occasion.

Yoko's is a blood-fruit mixture that Divina made because she grew tired of drinking only blood.

("She's lying, she wants to feel included in our chats." Divina had said, whispering to Enid as she helped make dinner, Yoko outside feeding their chickens. She says that"— Divina does an awful impression of Yoko— "tea has magical properties that make conversations better.""

Enid agrees.)

Divina's is some weird pepper-green tea blend; Yoko says it tastes like spicy dirt. Enid thinks so too.

Her favorite is apple-citrus. They always have some for her.

She runs over to the table so she can set their tea bags down, then turns back to grab their mugs from the cupboard.

"Water's nearly done, Sweetheart." Yoko says softly. She turns around and Yoko is leaning against the edge of the counter, arms crossed and staring at her.

"Something wrong? I thought vampires thought staring was rude."

"Sorry, just..." Yoko walks over and sticks her hands outs, arms raised.

On reflex, Enid lowers her head into the vampire's hands. Yoko rubs her face.

"I'm just really proud of you, Pup." Yoko brushes her hair off her forehead before pressing a kiss on it. "I really am."

Yoko turns around to check their water as the amount of love in Enid's heart threatens to make her explode from the inside out.

"I... I love you, Yoko." Yoko takes the kettle off the stove and turns around, pouring their water into the mugs, then turning and setting the kettle back on the stove.

"I love you too, Enid." Yoko grabs her tea bag and sets it into her mug, then grabs Divina's and does the same to hers.

Enid grabs her own tea bag and places it in the hot water. Yoko sits in her chair, and gestures to Enid's.

"Go on, have a sit while we wait for my slow-ass wife!" Yoko turns to face the hallway as she insults her beloved wife. Enid sits.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Divina runs out of the hall, panting. "Did you start yet?"

Enid shakes her head, waving her hands at the teas gathered. "We just sat down and got the drinks ready."

"Good. And you, little miss Yoko, are impatient!"

"Ouch! Me? Impatient? Oh, perish the very thought!" Yoko turns to Enid, "Am I impatient, Enid?"

"If I say no, well you not give me forehead kisses for a month?" Yoko smiles meanly.

"I'll never kiss your forehead again." Enid turns to Divina for a counter-offer. Divina shrugs.

"I never said I'd take anything away if you disagreed with me."

"You're so patient, Yoko."

Yoko takes her tea in one hand and wraps her other arm around Divina's shoulder. "Damn straight."

"Damn gay." Divina corrects. Her sharp eyes turn to Enid, and all too suddenly she feels like she's being stalked by a predator. "Now, about your date..."

"Was she nice?"

"Did you kiss?"

"Was it consensual?"

"Did you both enjoy it?"

"LADIES!" Enid shouts over their interrogation. "Let me get a word in, please!" The two offer sheepish smiles. Divina sips her tea, Yoko stares.

"Sorry, Pup. Just wanted to make sure it all went nice and good."

"I get that but damn!" She fakes cries, wiping her face with the back of her hand. "Guess you don't want this hot goss..." she grins.

"Now, let's not be hasty." Divina presses on Yoko's chest and pushes her back.

"Ignore her, tell us about your date."

Enid takes a big gulp of her tea before speaking.

"We went to a vineyard, and were plucking some grapes. I got a bunch of grapes— and yes, I did go back and get them, Yoko —and we got to have a nice talk. She's pro-outcast!"

Yoko snorts, "she's the fucking embodiment of death, I think she'd be pretty alright with some people being werewolves."

"It's still nice to know! Anyways, we had a nice lil' chat, and I got to name her!"

Divina starts talking. "You... named her?"

"Aw, you done got yourself a lil' guard-dog! Good on you, Sweetie."

"I— Yoko! She's not a dog!"

"I feel like I say this far too much," Divina elbows her wife, "but ignore this idiot. What and why did you name her?"

"I named her Wednesday, 'cause that's the day we met, 'n 'cause of that poem? 'Wednesday's child is full of woe'? I thought it fit... and Lady Death is long as hell."

"Okay, I can admit that's some sweet reasoning." Yoko leans forward, resting her chin on her fist, "but that doesn't change the fact that that was the dorkiest thing I've ever heard!"

"Yoko!"

"Oh," Yoko leans over the table, "I could just pinch your cheeks!"

"No!" Enid yelps as Yoko begins pulling her cheeks, "Divina! Help!"

Divina stands up, walks around the table, then gets to Enid's side, smiling. "Divina, don't—"

"Look at youuuuu," Divina starts squeezing her cheeks, cooing, "going on dates and everything! Pretty soon, you'll get married and leave me and Yoko here in all alone in the woods to become haunting lesbian witches!"

"Nooooooooooooooooo," Yoko actually climbs over the table to sit in Enid's lap, wrapping her arms around the werewolf's neck, "I won't wanna lose our Puppy!" Enid wraps her arms around Yoko, snuggling her.

"You won't! Stars, you are both so dramatic! I go on two dates and suddenly me and Willa are planning names for our kids!"

"You already have kids on the way? Oh! How cruel! How cruel fate is... to... have... Willa?" Divina asks.

"Oh, would you just look at the time!" Enid picks Yoko up and sits her down on the table, almost knocking over her own mug in the process, "I must get going, I need to... uh get, uh— water! Yes, I need water for my... flowers!"

She runs to the door, smacking her face into it and quickly recovering. "See you both later, bye, I love you!" She opens the door and runs, slamming it behind her. She runs until she no longer hears cackles, and then runs until she finds her little hut.

She opens her door— not slamming her face this time —and closes it behind her.

"Shit, I'm never gonna live this down. They're gonna tease me until I die. Fuck." Enid paces around in circles, ruffling her hair wildly. She plops on the floor, pressing an arm over her eyes.

She knows why she hasn't made any time for their next date: it'll be their last. If she does this last date, then their deal is done. She's procrastinating

If she did woo Wednesday, she gets Esther and sells her to the highest bidder. And they never talk again, going back to Lady Death and the mortal woman.

If she didn't woo Wednesday, She doesn't get Esther back and stays poor. They never talk again, and Enid stays stuck on a woman who might not have ever loved her.

"Fuck." She removes her arm and sits up. The moon is out. She turns her head and eyes the watering can on her counter.

"Well," she stands up and walks to the counter. She picks up the metal can. "Couldn't hurt to some water for the flowers."

She walks to her door and grabs her almost-worthless sword, placing it in her holster. She opens the door and walks behind her house. There's a stream a good ten-minute walk into the woods.

"Let's get this over with." She walks out.

Figs are nice.

She steps; it hurts.

Grapes are nice, too.

She coughs and there's blood on her fist when she pulls it away.

Crows are nice birds, as dumb as they are.

She presses a hand to her side; it pulls away soaked in her blood.

"Fuck..." She steps farther into the woods. Yoko and Divina are too far away to go to them. She has nothing at her hut for Wolfsbane. It was enchanted with something. She wonders what.

She walks to their river.

"Fuck, fuck." She swallows. She can taste blood in her mouth. "Fuckin' hunters. Just wan'ed some water. 'Ere's plen'y t'go 'round." Thinking is getting harder, everything covered in a fuzz.

She looks up and spots a crow perched on a tree. She slumps on a tree, barely seeing clearly.

"Hey—" a cough, more blood "—can you tell your mom— master? Owner?— tell her I'll be late? To our date, I mean. I won't be able to make it today." She presses and the wound and almost laughs at the amount of blood on her hand.

"Or tomorrow. Or ever, I guess." The crow turns its little head up to the sky, cawing.

Enid grins a bloody smile when a burst of magic rings in her ears and in the silence of the forest. Crows and ravens flying about. She looks up and sees Wednesday's back.

"I swear to Requiem, Enid, you better have an incredible reason to have summ—" she halts in her little speech when she turns and sees Enid bloody and dying.

Enid gives a bloody grin. shakily. "Hey."

She rushes over, falling to her knees.

"Enid! What— what happened?" Wednesday takes her hand and places glowing fingers over the wound, and recoiling when it does nothing. "Hunters." Enid responds, coughing again.

"Who— I— why? Why would someone hurt you?"

"'Cause 'm a werewolf. They wan'ed m' pelt 'fore winter came 'n froze 'em."

"Don't close your eyes. What were you attacked with?" Wednesday's fingers glow brighter than before, and she places them on the hole again.

It does nothing.

"Wolfsbane metal. It had 'his lil' glow to it. I dunno why."

Wednesday stares at her silently.

"'m sleepy, Willa. Wanna sleep."

"Do not," Wednesday starts getting teary, "don't you dare go sleep. Please, I just need a moment to think."

"If I die, I'll end up in the underworld wif' you. I'll get our date goin' then." There's black spots forming in her eyes. Everything has this warp to it, all distorted.

"You— I am Death, not ruler of the underworld. We're different."

"Oh."

Wednesday's starts crying. Harsh sobs make her shake.

"Don't—" she coughs and there's less blood. That isn't good. "—Don' cry. I don't like seeing you cry, sad."

"Enid, please!" Wednesday grabs her and shakes her gently. She's wailing now. "Don't go to sleep!"

"But 'm tired."

Wednesday sobs again, then stops. Her hand, all the way up her arm, begins glowing, runes that are otherwise invisible without magic taking form on her skin.

"Enid! Shake my hand, it'll save you!" When Enid doesn't answer her, she yells. "PLEASE!"

"Can't... can't lift 'm hand. Too tired."

"PLEASE! I AM BEGGING, USE ALL YOU STRENGTH, ENID, PLEASE!" It's weird to see Death beg for someone else's life, Enid decides.

She manages to lift her hand just barely. Wednesday takes it.

"Good, just three shakes, okay, Enid? Just three."

"Won' be able t'do it."

"You have to."

She can hear running.

Enid barely moves her hand with Wednesday's.

One.

The second time, Wednesday almost completely moves her hand.

Two.

The third time, Enid only gives a twitch as Wednesday lifts her hand.

Three.

Nothing happens. She hears more voices sobs.

"'M sorry, it didn' work. La' you, Willa. Tell..." her senses are fading so fast, she isn't even sure she's actually talking anymore. "Tell my moms I love 'em?"

She passes—

("Do you know who could be responsible?"

"There's a little village that's know to have hunters lurking. Enid lives not too far from a little stream that the hunters use to find sirens. They must've had some way to detect her being a werewolf."

"Which village? Point me and I swear to all crows and dead that their village will burn—"

"No. It's not what she would've wanted—"

"Does want. She is not dead."

"—If she dies, you won't honor what would've likely been her last wish?"

"I—"

"—if she lives, she'll be heartbroken over the destruction and ruin brought in her name. Does your need for revenge out-weigh your love?"

"..."

"...no.")

Enid opens her eyes again, which she doesn't expect to happen. She thought it would be an endless darkness.

She definitely didn't expect to look up and see the celling of Yoko and Divina's house.

She turns her head and sees the two curled up in the corner of the living room on the floor, wrapped in Yoko's big-ass comforter that can cover almost the entire floor. They both look awful, dark eye bags and messy hair and tear marks.

"Wha—" she whisper, her throat dry and sore.

"Here." She's too tired to jump in surprise at the voice she hears. She turns and sees Wednesday handing her a mug.

It's her mug. There's tea in it.

She drinks it.

"What... happened?"

"How much do you remember?"

"Last thing I remember..." she racks her brain for some kind of recollection. "Was shaking your hand? and sayin' somethin'." She drinks her tea again.

"I took your soul— a part of it, at least. A fraction."

She sips.

"Why?"

"It was the only way I could save you," Wednesday leans forward and presses a kiss to Enid's forehead, "Cara Mia."

Enid hums. "Why are we at their house?"

"They insisted that you'd feel safer here. And I assumed if you woke up and saw the rotting trees and black stone of my realm, you'd panic."

Enid nods. "I'm sorry we haven't gotten to go on our date." Wednesday spreads her arms out, careful to not smack Enid in the face. "This could be our date. Us just... Talking. Speaking."

"Wow, I make a picnic and take you to a vineyard and all I get is a little chit-chat?" She giggles, and the sound washes away the nervousness from Wednesday's face like water would a sand-castle. "I'm hurt."

Wednesday picks her hand and kisses the back.

"Y'know, I thought of something just after our second date. I never gave you a second name. That's not right. You need one."

"You mortals and your names." Wednesday huffs. "What about that poem?"

Enid blows her cheeks out and thinks. She turns to Wednesday's ringed hands still on hers, golden bands resting on thin fingers.

""Friday's child is loving and giving." You've given me my first real love. Your name is Wednesday Friday."

Wednesday hums. She kisses Enid's hand again. "A most fine name."

Enid preens.

"I'll take you out on a better one soon, just for now..." she leans forward again and kisses Enid on the lips.

Her lips are soft.

"Let's enjoy this?"

Enid smiles.

"Okay."

"Sooooooooo," Divina whispers into Enid's ear. They're in the living room working on making Wednesday a mug. Yoko's in the kitchen teaching Wednesday how to gut and grill a fish.

("I like this. So much blood."

Yoko grinned. "I like you.")

"You called us your moms?"

Enid jolts in place, turning so fast her neck pops.

"That was you two running?!" She asks, whispering back.

"Yoko smelled your blood and got worried."

"Stars, I'm sorry. I don—"

"It makes us happy." Divina turns back to the mug in Enid's hands.

Enid makes it, Divina paints it.

"We like that you feel so... safe. Around us. It makes us feel good."

Divina turns to her little bucket of paints, picking a nice deep crimson.

"I've never really wanted kids, to be honest. I always thought I could never handle the task of caring for someone like that. Of helping them figure out themselves and watching them grow." Divina turns to face Enid. with them both sitting on the floor, Enid's still significantly taller than her. "I got so wrapped up in our lives I kinda over looked the kid I got to have anyway."

Enid feel tears burn her eyes.

Divina raises her arms and Enid bear-hugs her, lifting her into her lap.

"I love you, sweet wolf."

Enid sniffles into her neck.

"I love you too... Mom."

(When Enid and Wednesday married 6 years later, Wednesday became a Tanaka. She got to destroy that village.)

I still find all this height difference funny, like sure Enid is thin as hell but 6'10!?? I dunno, it just tickles my fancy a bit

Wednesday also got to destroy a village and i love that for them

Hope Enid eventually fills out and Yoko vina continue having a lovely fulfilling marriage

“My tenure here in your workshop has passed, Helm. It is time for me to report back to Elesh Norn.”

The artificer warily eyed the porcelain centurion standing in the doorway. “Is that so, Lance?” Helm muttered.

The other Phyrexian nodded stiffly. “Correct…although, I must admit I am uncertain as to why Norn ordered me to conduct this surprise inspection on your work and subordinates. By my calculations, your efficiency is unmatched throughout the sphere.”

“Yes, well…” Helm droned, “surely our beloved praetor knows better than we.”

“Indeed.”

Just before Lance could turn to leave, there came a loud clattering noise from the back room. Helm’s face fell, as Lance aimed his bladed wrist towards the sound.

“Helm, get behind me.”

Helm pondered his answer for a moment. “No, Lance, I don’t think we’re in any danger.”

As if on cue, another Phyrexian stumbled into view, this one clad in the green augmentations typical of the Hunter’s Maze.

“Oh, Master Helm! I was just trying to test the…leg servos.”

The artificer’s eyes drifted towards Lance and his outstretched weapon.

“You were not present for my personnel count. Identify yourself.”

“My…my name is Mace, sir. I guess you could say I’m here on loan from the Maze…indefinitely.”

Much to Helm and Mace’s surprise, Lance relaxed his arm.

“I was wondering about the Tangle modifications on this workshop’s golems. Be present for the next inspection, or else.”

“I…yes, sir.”

Satisfied with Mace’s answer, Lance nodded and turned to leave, only to be stopped once more, this time by Helm.

“Wait…Against my better judgement, I’ll ask: when are the reprisals coming? For harboring Mace?”

Lance tilted his head. “Reprisals? Don’t be ridiculous. As I said, your workshop’s efficiency is unparalleled.”

“But…Mace? Norn?”

Lance’s head tilted slightly further to the side. “I…see no reason to bother my praetor with the mundane specifics of your operation. Do you?”

“Er…no. Do you have any objections, Mace?”

“No, sir.”

“Good.”

'Actor David Tennant addresses whether he would return to Doctor Who after the 60th anniversary specials. After portraying the Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010, Tennant will return to the British sci-fi show as the Fourteenth Doctor for a series of special episodes. The Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials will premiere on Disney+ on November 25 before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor in season 14.

Speaking with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+), Tennant discussed his Doctor Who future after the specials. He said that it would be "disingenuous” to say that he would “never be asked back again.” He even referenced Patrick Stewart's return to the Star Trek universe to suggest a similar goal for himself if a reprisal was possible in the future. Still, Tennant maintained that he has “no plans” at the moment. Check out the full quote from Tennant below:

"I think it would be disingenuous to imagine that I might never be asked again because history would indicate that it was always a possibility. Why Another Doctor Who Return For David Tennant Is Possible

Tennant’s Doctor Who return is one of the most highly-anticipated aspects of the 60th-anniversary specials. Not only is Tennant returning to the series, but he will make history as the second actor ever to get a second reincarnation, playing the Fourteenth Doctor in place of reprising his Tenth Doctor role. While Tennant is not slated to be a part of Doctor Who season 14, the nature of his return opens up possibilities for the sci-fi show to make similar canonical choices.

The possibility depends on the Fourteenth Doctor's regeneration into the Fifteenth Doctor. The BBC hinted that the Fourteenth Doctor would not come out of the Doctor Who anniversary specials alive. The foreshadowing has been teased through a picture of a bell, saying that “it will chime four times.” It's a reference to the former Doctor Who prophecy of “he will knock four times,” which previously served as a harbinger of the Doctor’s death.

Even so, Tennant’s return is evident that even the most final of Time Lord goodbyes, such as Tennant’s emotional Doctor Who season 4 departure, do not indicate the end of an actor's run. Fellow Time Lord actors McCoy and Paul McGann also recently returned to the show after years away, opening up the possibility for future actors to do the same. As one of the most beloved Doctor Who actors, another return is well within the realm of possibility for Tennant, even if he has no active plan to do so.'

i'm about to say something highly controversial so musical theater girlies who loved everything about hadestown and would prefer not to hear anything negative about it press j

okay.

hadestown is riiiight up my alley. i fucking love greek mythology and i love modern takes on old myths and stories, romeo + juliet is one of my favorite pieces of media. before bootlegging it watching it very legally i'd heard only a couple songs, wait for me and wait for me reprise, way down hadestown, and why we build the wall. and i was excited! i absolutely loved what i'd heard, and i'd seen so many people getting hugely emotional over it on social media AND in person, and i was just, ready to have my heart broken.

and instead i sat there and thought "oh...uhm....uhhh....is that it. is that. it??"

i just wanted so much more out of it. i was expecting--as i think many people were--for The Wall to be much more political. and it just wasn't. it's just sort of there. the show does not at all feel like it's About the exploitation of hadestown, the workers just sort of exist as a backdrop, a status quo that is so much of a status quo that the musical can't even acknowledge that it could be changed.

and that would almost be fine by itself, not every musical Has to be about politics. it could be primarily about the character relationships. and yet...nothing in the show endeared me to orpheus or eurydice either, much less sold me on their chemistry with each other. i just simply didn't end up caring about the story, realizing halfway through that i wanted to be watching once on this island instead.

anyway. it's such a beloved musical that i find myself not totally understanding what everyone else is seeing in it. i almost feel like everyone else is just listening to the soundtrack and imagining a better story was involved, because conceptually it's lovely, but it just didn't deliver for me. anyone else? just me? idk.

Scream VI: A Review

Scream VI is a movie whose existence is questionable at best. After twenty-plus years of awful follow-ups, and a fifth movie that attempted and failed to recreate the magic of the original, a sixth Scream installment definitely makes the series feel as if it has outstayed its welcome. Watching this movie in theaters seemed to be a gamble, and waiting for it to hit streaming on Paramount Plus was the apprehensive next step... and I'm shocked to share with my readers that Scream VI has exceeded my expectations in almost every respect.

Pros:

This iteration of the Scream franchise has successfully helped me appreciate the new cast as an ensemble

High doses of adrenaline are injected into Scream VI. The setups of every death scene are incredibly creative and inspired, taking place in locations we've never seen before. Some of the best locales include a convenience store, a rooftop ladder, and a train station filled with costume-clad passengers

Easter eggs from previous installments are cleverly laced throughout the movie, and this film introduces diehard fans to one of the coolest ideas in the franchise: the Scream shrine

After almost two decades, we finally see what it's like to have beloved legacy character Gale survive a Ghostface attack

A sense of dread is established that, despite moving across the country, Ghostface will follow the main characters no matter where they go

Spoilers: Violence is elevated to levels we haven't seen since the first movie (characters are disembodied and half of one character's face is clipped off after a fall from several stories in the air)

The history of Ghostface is briefly discussed in a cool, detective-style layout

Hayden Panettiere returns to reprise her role as Kirby from Scream IV

The climax of this movie is much more exciting and cathartic than Scream V's

Neve Campbell is written out of this movie entirely and this spares the audience the torment of having to watch her be killed as Dewey was in the last film

Cons:

The twist regarding the killers' identities in the end is lame. I love the idea of incorporating three culprits into a Scream movie -- it's territory that has not been explored yet -- but none of the characters who are revealed as Ghostface have strong or memorable enough presences to make them believable murderers. Perhaps this is the idea, but it severely undercuts what is supposed to be a surprising moment for the viewers

At this point in the franchise, there have been literally three pairs of killers exposed throughout the Scream series. Despite this detail literally being spelled out in the narrative, the characters only suspect one person to be the perpetrator of every death in this film. At this point, the Core Four should be aware enough of their circumstances to be cautious of more than one suspect. This is an especially interesting note considering that Mindy, a substitute Randy character, is constantly explaining horror-related patterns and tropes

Yes, I am satisfied to know that Sidney is not put in danger in this movie, but she is one of my favorite characters and I still would have loved to see her return for this latest feature

The opening is relatively weak and introduces red-herring antagonists who are axed as easily as they are introduced

After 28 years, the Scream formula has become a bit tired. Perhaps this is just a trend that exists throughout the horror genre, but the tropes in the Scream series feel particularly monotonous. This is also odd when you consider how often the franchise mocks their counterparts for doing the same thing

Verdict: From a storytelling perspective, Scream VI is not as impressive as the original. It sometimes reads as an overblown piece of fanservice, but it is still a refreshing return-to-form, and lovingly pays homage to what made this series so popular. Scream VI has been the only franchise sequel to fill me with a warm sense of nostalgia, and reminded me of why I fell in love with these movies in the first place. It is a more-than-worthy follow-up to the first film and almost makes up for two decades worth of mostly-terrible sequels.

Although it’s been pushed back until 2024 (unfortunately), I am still really interested in the Tiana TV series. I am really looking forward to what kind of adventures Tiana will have and how she will balance her new responsibilities as both a princess and a restaurant owner. Plus I can’t wait to see the return of beloved characters like Naveen, Louis, Mama Odie and Charlotte and get to see more of New Orleans and especially Naveen’s home, Maldonia. However, I am sad that Ray won’t be returning since he died at the end of the movie and I am curious about Naveen.

There isn’t a doubt in my mind that Naveen will be back, but his original voice actor might not be. Bruno Campos, the man behind the voice of Prince Naveen retired from acting years ago and so that begs the question who will be Naveen’s new voice actor... but there might still be a chance. A new Princess and the Frog theme park for Disneyland will be opening and it’s confirmed that Bruno Campos will be coming back to reprise his role as Naveen.

If he’s willing to return for that then maybe there’s a chance he might reprise his role for the TV show after all? Although a park and a TV series are two completely different things you never know and he wouldn’t be the first actor to come out of retirement. In the end, I’ll accept no matter what happens, but it just really got me thinking is all.

i saw london's new production of newsies sunday. it was everything i imagined and more. if you have the chance, sit in woodside or just any of the side ones. they throw copies of the banner and the torn newspapers into the audience. it now has a place of honor on my wall.

jack is painting the same backdrop as broadway during "watch what happens reprise" and i actually squeaked

davey is whipped (at least that's what i see lmao)

i'm loving confident davey, his character development is everything!!

his deliberate way of saying "we are inevitable" really tugs at my heart man

BROOKLYN IS ALL GIRLS!! they start in the audience, then sing on their way to the stage and GET A DANCE NUMBER

no seriously I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

during the rally, the newsies are actually standing in the borough they shout out (the "woodside's here!" gang was like 6 feet away from me on a riser)

the newsies really feel like kids fighting for a cause

love something to believe in; gotta say, wasn't really feeling this jatherine until this scene, because man they killed it

here comes once and for all, which will never fail to hype me up

they changed the "you got your thugs..." lyric and i was too busy mouthing along to the song to remember what is was changed to

lanterns during once and for all! they lit it like it was night and the lanterns added to the ~vibe~

AND they do the bundle tossing thing in the central aisle and towards the exits, i was mesmerized

then they go to the rest of the aisles and throw the banners into the crowd (one of which i have)

love the teddy roosevelt

the newsies vs pulitzer is everything??? spot and davey??? amazing

davey says sandstorms instead of tarantulas

i would die for the whole jacobs family

of course, curtain call for newsies is mindblowing

i made eye contact with race at one point during the show and it made my evening even better

they got MULTIPLE standing ovations during the show and i stood up during the applause for "once and for all" (no one else did) because that one deserved a standing ovation too

when i walked out of the theater, it had started snowing in wembley for the first time this year :)))

a magical, rousing, fantastic show that i eagerly recounted to my friends and boyfriend when i got back to our accommodation

tl;dr please oh please if you have the opportunity, go see newsies! it is unforgettable and worth every penny!!

The Flash movie: Release date, plot details, trailers, cast & more

Travelling back in time to prevent his mother's murder — for which his father was falsely imprisoned, as revealed in Zack Snyder's Justice League — Barry Allen/ The Flash (Ezra Miller) ends up causing a butterfly effect and venturing into alternate dimensions across the multiverse. That's how The Flash will involve at least two returning versions of Batman, played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. Loosely draws from the Flashpoint comic book arc. The Flash is expected to be at the centre of Warner Bros.' revamped strategy to create a shared multiverse for its DC Comics movies and TV shows.

The Flash First Trailer

“Tell me something, you can go anywhere. Another timeline, another universe, so why do you want to stay and fight to save this one?” Michael Keaton’s Batman asks Barry in the opening moments of the trailer. Barry responds, “Because this is the one where my mom lives. I’m not gonna lose her again.”

Barry explains that “time has a pattern that it can’t help reliving. Different people, different worlds, drawn to each other like magnets.” He ends up meeting another version of himself.

The Flash Movie? While rolling out the first plans for the next chapter of DC Studios on January 31, DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed what’s going on with Ezra, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, and The Flash movie. James called The Flash “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” according to THR.

Despite ongoing legal troubles, James included Ezra when he said that “there is nothing that prohibits” them from reprising their role as The Flash in future DCU projects. “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery. We are fully supportive of that journey they are on right now,” Peter noted. “When the time is right, when they are ready to have that discussion, we will all figure out what the best path forward. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery. And in our conversation with them, in the last couple of months, it feels like they are making enormous progress.”

The Flash release date

The Flash will come out in cinemas on 16th June 2023, a week earlier than its previously announced 23rd June 2023 release date.

The release date has likely been pushed forward by a week to avoid Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which finally announced that it will premiere on 30th June.

The film was originally slated to premiere in cinemas in November 2022.

The movie was then brought forward to 3rd June 2022 as part of Warner Bros' response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, before being delayed again by a year.

After months of delays and pre-production, The Flash finally began filming on 26th April 2021.

Fans have already had to wait a very long time to see a standalone film, with Miller having already signed on as long ago as 2014 – so by the time we see the movie, it’ll be almost a decade since the star agreed to play the character. Talk about patience!

Of course in that time the character has appeared in other DC films, but it can surely only be good news that he’s finally getting his own movie.

The Flash movie plot

While the film is largely still a mystery, we do know that it will be adapting the popular Flashpoint comic storyline, arguably one of the most beloved and well-known storylines for the character. In large part due to the way it completely flipped the DC universe on its head.

The Flashpoint timeline is a universe in which the world has been torn apart due to a war between Atlantis and Themyscira. When Barry Allen wakes up in this timeline, he is without his powers and has some memory loss but still retains some memory of the world he used to know.
