Diede de Groot giving a smashing performance at Roland Garros

Yesterday Diede de Groot, from Oudewater, Province of Utrecht won the semi-finale women’s singles for wheelchairs. She played the semi-finale against fellow countrywomen Aniek van Koot and managed to beat her in 3 sets, winning both first and third set with a 6 – 4 score. De Groot will play the finale against Yui Kamiji from Japan today. Both De Groot and Kamiji reached the finale last year, when Kamiji was too strong for De Groot and beat her in 3 sets. De Groot is also coming out in the semi-finale of the women’s wheelchair doubles, partnering with Van Koot.

So, she started a blog and a youtube channel in order to spread awareness on disability related issues and rights. She has given motivational speeches on stage as well.🥰 . Link in bio to her amazing youtube channel- Hasitha Illa!🤩 . She was diagnosed with a super rare disease called Friedreich's Ataxia. That traumatic experience has made her a stronger and a positive person.🧠 . This is how should be her introduction because she comes first and then her disability enters.🦿 . I started stalking her and learnt about disabilities. 🥰 Oh yes you correctly heard not 'differently-abled' not "divyang" not "special" i said she's a person with disability. And if confused ask them what term they identify by without just presuming.☺ .
