model au: this is the one that sparked that entire post bc i saw those two photos and went "wait....." anyway. buck and tommy meet on a shoot and buck is immediately reduced to a giggly, blushing mess. he's new to the modelling industry but so ridiculously pretty he's already getting booked left and right. tommy's been in the game for a while, and he's so comfortable in his skin in front of the camera that it has buck watching him in awe. a bts video of a shoot they did together blows up on twitter, people talking about their chemistry, how hot they are together, and it gets people talking. buck is terribly, terribly embarrassed, worried tommy's gonna realize buck's got a huge crush on him, but then tommy doesn't mind at all, and is actually really, really on board with buck's feelings if the hickeys the makeup department have to cover the next time he's in front of a camera are anything to go by

(also, buck discovering he loves being behind the camera and getting every candid of his boyfriend possible. the professional, smoldering, glamour shots are nice, yeah, but the one of tommy smiling when he realizes buck's been taking pictures of him? those are his favorites.)

college au: listen, i know hs/college au's aren't for everyone but i love them. the frat parties, the "we kissed the day before christmas break and now i don't know how you feel because we're not talking and i can't just show up at your dorm" angst, their friends pestering them about the obvious feelings they have for each other. come on!!! buck and tommy are both freshman though tommy's a bit older because he took some time between high school and college to get a job so he could pay for his school. buck thinks tommy doesn't like him very much but tommy's kind of in love with the guy, but the way he shows his affection and his teasing attempts at flirting are clearly not getting the message across. so he kisses him in the front lawn of a frat house during a party because obviously they're in frats and buck doesn't get it, thinks tommy's doing it because he found out buck likes him and is making fun of him, and tommy doesn't even let him finish angrily confessing his feelings before he's tackling him onto the lawn and kissing him stupid.

neighbor au: they both work odd hours. tommy's still a firefighter but buck's a nurse and they've seen each other a few times on the job, enough that buck's coworkers always let him know when the hot firefighter came by, but they have no idea they're neighbors because their hours just never. line. up. until one day buck's sick to the point not even he can justify going to work and tommy's got his day off and they run into each other in the hallway of their apartment complex when buck goes out to get his door dash. he is immediately horrendously embarrassed because ohmygod the hot firefighter knows what i look like in spongebob pajama pants. tommy doesn't mind though, clearly, because a few hours later he's knocking on buck's door and handing over a tupperware of homemade cookies. tommy doesn't stick around very long because buck is clearly super tired, but when buck opens the lid there's a note with tommy's number and a 'next time we have off on the same day, you wanna grab coffee?' the smiley face is lopsided and uneven but it makes the biggest grin appear on buck's face

canon divergence: oh man i LOVE canon divergence in general, but s1 bucktommy would go so hard. like au where tommy doesn't leave the 118 so he's there for buck's probie year? incredible. tommy, for starters, wouldn't be able to stand buck 1.0 and buck, like the oblivious bisexual he is, wouldn't understand why he cares so much. slowly, buck starts trying to get his attention. talking to him, getting to know him. tommy's still in the closet and trying to keep from losing his mind because the pretty playboy who sleeps around is suddenly no longer hooking up with women in favor of trying to get to know him. tommy knows he should tell buck to stop because there's no way this won't end with his heart broken (who hasn't fallen for a straight person and cried to sad ballads about it? queer culture), but buck is actually sweet and he's not funny because his jokes are terrible but he makes him laugh and tommy's determined to introduce him to all the best, classic romcoms (the man's favorite movie is love, actually, c'mon). the more time they spend together the less buck goes out, and after a long shift, sitting on the floor of tommy's living room eating pizza, when tommy starts leaning in, buck doesn't think twice before closing the distance. tommy pulls back, asks if he's sure, if this is okay, and buck, who hasn't had sex since he realized he wanted tommy in a big, bad, really really gay way, kisses him breathless.

tommy doesn't want to pressure buck, doesn't want to move too fast because he really, really likes him. buck is annoyingly charmed by it because he's never had a meaningful relationship and as weird as it is to want that with a guy he really does want it with tommy (but he also obviously takes it as a challenge to see how far he can push his boyfriend's buttons before he bends him over the back of the couch).

You make some really good points here, especially about stepping away a bit and trying to just enjoy them as musicians. I’ve tried it with some success, but it’s not easy. I do honestly love both of their music and listen to it daily. Beyond that, it’s good to back off a bit for me.

I think for me something that has really become clear this last year, is that many fans feel entitled to what I would call Chapter 118 of the Harry/Louis WIP, and the reality is it’s just not coming. Now I love reading Larry fan fiction as much as the next person, but looking at it that way is so unfair to them. They have real lives and relationships and it’s not a story that needs to be tied up with a happily ever after. Lots of Larries - especially Twitter Larries - seem to use every interview or use of a primary color as a new chapter. I’ve never been a believer in the “mastermind” theory. And you are so right when you say the good vs evil is not really clear anymore. Yes, Syco and Cowell committed a lot of abuses, but those guys walked out of there with around $50M and tons of doors opened for them that wouldn’t have been possible without 1D , so the lines are blurred.

I think it’s pretty clear from Harry’s “corner of the internet ….it’s not real” interview to Louis latest, they don’t want our help in this - whatever “this” is anymore. It’s not underdogs vs overlords and I don’t like taking away Harry’s and Louis’s agency at this point.

It’s funny, because in 2016 if someone had said this is where you will be 8 years later I would have laughed in their face. But this is where we are and finding ways to deal with it and realizing we may never have more then we have today can be hard. Who knows what will happen in the future. Tomorrow the whole thing could blow wide open and lots of questions will get answered, but I just don’t think so and I’m ok with that. Sort of…. lol!

Anyway, thanks for the nice, calm commentary. I still enjoy reading it all!

Oh, I totally feel you on waiting for chapter 118. So many people treat their lives like an unfinished fic or a game to win. It’s super unhealthy for fans and I can’t imagine it feels good for Harry and Louis. And I very much agree that where we once were helpful, we may now be a hindrance at times. Saying that, I think it’s important to acknowledge that we’re not fucking making things up out of thin air and Harry/Louis/their teams often use Larry and larries for their benefit.

That makes it difficult to feel that they’re being completely honest when they say they don’t want a focus put on Larry.

Regardless, I’m tired of playing this game. I’d prefer to just chill in my own little circle and talk about Larry with my friends and go to concerts and have fun. But I don’t enjoy being treated like shit when it’s convenient and then sent flowers when I’m needed again, you know?

Nowadays the only time Bobby asks Buck to come to his office is either when Buck has done something bad or if Bobby is going to have Buck narrate the next big romance book that’s going to hit bookstores. Buck hasn’t done anything for him to get reprimanded (that he knows of) so there’s an extra pep in his step as he thinks about which author is set to come out with a new book soon. 

His thoughts are put to a hold as he opens the door and sees Eddie Diaz sitting casually across from Bobby. It’s only a few weeks since he joined the 118 and Buck still can’t stand him. Can’t stand how easily everyone warmed up to him and treated him as if he’s always belonged here. Even his sister, Maddie became excited when he ranted about him. Telling Buck how Eddie is her favorite romance audiobook narrator. When Buck asked what about him, Maddie raised her eyebrow and replied, “Why would I listen to you, Evan?” 

“What’s going on?” Buck asks Bobby. A Bobby who looks a bit too delighted by whatever news he’s about to give him. “I thought this meeting was just between you and me.”

“I said I wanted to meet you this morning. Nothing about a meeting with just you,” Bobby corrects. “But now that you’re here, we can get this started.” He gestures for Buck to sit down next to Eddie. Eddie, the bastard, is polite and gives him a smile as Buck sits down. “I got good news. The best news. There’s this book that’s trending everywhere – Instagram, Booktok, Twitter, Goodreads, the whole works –”

Both Eddie and Buck snort at that. When is there not a romance book trending on those platforms?

Bobby ignores them and continues on. “ – and the book isn’t even out yet. All very positive reviews from early ARC readers. And dozens of preorders. And the best news is that you two are offered to narrate the audiobook.” Bobby pulls out two copies – one for Buck and one for Eddie – from a drawer in his desk. It’s a book called Up in Flames with two male firefighters smiling into a kiss. Buck opens the book and glances at a random page in it. Something involving one of the characters getting shot, told from the point of view of the character Oliver. The writing is good. 

“So what, do they want a duet narration?” Eddie asks. Buck notices he hasn’t touched the book Bobby gave him. It still sits on the desk where Bobby laid it near him. 

Bobby grins. “Yes! Two of the best romance narrators doing a duet narration for the next hottest romance book coming out this year is exactly what they were thinking about doing! So, what do you guys think?”

Eddie shrugs, looking over at Buck. “I mean, could be fun. I’m game if you are?”

Buck narrows his eyes. He doesn’t know why, but this cavalier attitude Eddie has over this whole thing, makes Buck hate the guy even more. He looks over at Bobby. Bobby still has a grin on his face, although this time it’s a bit strained. It’s not a secret he doesn’t really like Eddie. And he can tell Bobby is probably counting on him to make nice with the guy. So plastering on a wide grin. “Count me in. Although I want to voice Oliver,” he says, showing Bobby the page he was reading from. 

With everything settled, Bobby lets them know he’ll get the contracts set up for their salary and he’ll let them know when they’ll start recording.

Do you have any 911 fic recs? I was sucked into the show by yours and I'm really in it now!

Boy, do I. This fandom moves VERY fast with the fics but here are some of my faves so far. Note: most presume you’ve seen all of the show through season five.

Those Two Firefighters by darkfairytale (dunno if they have a tumblr)- Buck and Eddie go viral after the incident with the botfly larvae with the hashtag #thosetwofirefighters. I love love love a good social media based fic and I think I've read this one eight times by now. Also has a follow-up.

Leave the Light On (I'll Be Coming Home) by @hmslusitania. Eddie is missing and presumed dead after a rescue goes awry and Buck takes custody of Christopher, but must deal with Eddie's parents challenging his parental rights while mourning the man he loved but had never told. This author's other works are also a good place to keep reading.

I Like You So Much (It's Kinda Gross) by @gayhoediaz (best username too) and @dickley-buddie. A story told in tweets wherein Buck is a firefighter who is super thirsty for MMA fighter Eddie.

Everything's Coming Up Milhouse by @henswilsons. Part one of a series. The viral Twitter adventures of Eddie Diaz, aka Mr. LAFD Updates Man. Delightful. Note: if you haven’t gotten this far, this really happened. In the second half of season five, Eddie left the 118 to be a public outreach officer for the LAFD at Dispatch (and got to be friends with Linda which is delightful) and part of his job was manning the LAFD Twitter. He did this because he didn’t want Chris to worry about him getting hurt at work. No worries, he went back to the 118 at the end of the season.

Lou implied on Twitter that him staying was up to the network. What do you think is going to happen? Will he stay?

Oh, it's hard question. Lou is good actor with pretty open schedule as I understood, but there's also a thing about how much money they want to spend on actors and this year all 1 season actors will most likely have negotiations of the contracts, so possible raising of the payment. Also it would depend of if they want him regular or guest star(different paymens, different time for appearing). Also it depends of what Tim and other writers will want for his character. So far reaction on him from most of the fandom was good, yet ofc there's some hate, but it's our fandom (or any). Nothing can happen without hate. So as reaction was pretty good they can think about making hims stay and talk to Lou about the future contract

I also think it depends of big question: if they will have a talk about ending the show after season 8 and how long will be the season. It can make them think if the should or shouldn't make bucktommy endgame. Because if it's last season even with normal amount (18-22) of episodes I doubt they would break a paring which working for now(we can see more and then I can talk better about it after finale) just to rush buddie. They wouldn't. It's stupid to rush it(also no one promised us buddie) as it would be not good in narrating point of view. Make the pairing that already exist deeper and stronger will make more sense

So far Tim said that he can't never really say where story goes and other things like what actor would be still here. There's really a lot of things that should be considered to make a good script

As a Tommy girl and bucktommy shipper I hope he will stay, but there's always a possibility for any LI characters to be out in one ep without much preamble (Ali, Natalia). Yet, Tommy's character different from them because he WASN'T made just to be LI. He was in the universe before, he has a backstory with 118, especially Hen and Chim, so I can see him stay, even as past LI

Anyway, no one can really answer who is not deep working with the show if Lou will stay or not. We just should wait and see. Hope they will clarify it soon

AnimagiC: Worth it or not?

I received the following PM the other day regarding Yuki Kajiura’s upcoming appearance at the German anime convention “AnimagiC”. I thought I would make a proper response post since I’m sure other people will be interested in this as well.

Hello Sarah! I'd like to ask your educated opinion about something, if it's not too much of a bother. I saw your post about Yuki Kajiura being invited to AnimagiC. I consider attending as this may be my one chance to see her and her singers perform live. I have never attended to such events before, so I'm not quite sure how things work. My question would be: Is there a realistic chance that not everyone who is interested will be able to participate at the concert? Since there are no separate tickets for the concert alone, how is it decided who goes and who doesn't if the venue reaches its capacity limit? Is it on a first come, first served basis? I realize that there will be multiple events happening simultaneously, and most probably not everyone will be interested in Kajiura's concert. Still, if I had to trample over others just to get myself a spot (and as a result perhaps they wouldn't be able to participate), then such a place is not for me. Obviously, I'm asking in general as I cannot expect you to know the details about the upcoming convention. I don't know whether I was able to convey my thoughts properly. Thank you in advance!

Key facts

AnimagiC 2023 takes place from Aug 4th to 6th at the Congress Center Rosengarten in Germany (it’s a 15-minute walk from Mannheim central station). With roughly 25k-30k visitors each year, it is certainly not the biggest anime convention in Europe or even Germany but AnimagiC has always been able to impress with its fancy locations and big Japanese guests. The current venue offers space for about 9k participants (not counting the surrounding area), the main concert hall can accommodate around 2,4k people and the second largest hall can accommodate around 1,4k people. No matter how you look at it, it’s going to be a tight squeeze during particularly busy hours. The 3-day-ticket is quite reasonably priced at €118 and is probably the best option for everyone who is coming from a bit further away. Typically, big guest acts have a rather packed schedule for at least two if not all three days of the convention so if you have the means, it pays off to attend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. One thing I would like to add here is that the convention is almost 100% geared towards a German speaking audience so if you don’t know any German, it might be a little tricky to navigate your way around the whole thing.

First come, first served

The tickets for AnimagiC pretty much cover every activity on the schedule which is both a blessing and a curse. When everything is included you avoid a lot of extra costs but obviously, it’s all on a first come, first served basis so there is always a chance that a specific part of the program will be over-crowded to a point where certain people won't be able to participate. There's no way to buy yourself into any of these activities via fast-passes or VIP tickets so it really is a matter of prioritising where you wanna be and getting there as early as possible. This can be quite tricky when multiple interesting activities happen simultaneously or back to back. As of right now, the announcement of YK's guest appearance has had the biggest response on the official AnimagiC Twitter account so she will probably be the most popular act there, attracting huge crowds. Many hardcore and even casual fans might camp-out at a certain location for the entire day to secure front-row-seats or good spots in a queue so you have to take that into account when you are planning your own schedule. I personally wouldn’t recommend such behaviour because it’s incredibly rude and you risk missing out on a lot of other cool stuff but of course many people would disagree with me. As far as the concerts are concerned, I would wager it is possible to get a seat if you get there about 2-3 hours in advance but there’s no way to know for sure. My best guess is that the majority of convention visitors will most likely be distracted by other convention activities and only start heading to the concert halls once a big event is about to start. As long as you can outrun those crowds, you might be fine. 

Possible program

The organisers of AnimagiC won’t be releasing the full program until July so it’s difficult to predict what awaits us. However, based on past events, a few things are very likely to happen. AnimagiC typically schedules a variety of fun activities for their honorary music guests which definitely justify the convention ticket prices. Among those activities you can expect at least two types of live performances on separate evenings (one live might be a joined act with other artists). As one of the bigger names on the line-up, YK and FJ will surely get to perform at prime time in the main hall with very few simultaneous events taking place to ensure that everyone will get a chance to attend. There will probably be one bigger (more general) panel with several Japanese guest acts and another one that’s dedicated to YK and FJ (most likely including interactive stuff such as a Q&A or game corner). One thing that’s also almost always guaranteed at AnimagiC is the chance to get your hands on a handwritten autograph from all the guests. Keep in mind though that there are many different ways in which that can happen. In order to participate in signing sessions, you might have to take part in some sort of lottery and in many cases you will be required to purchase official releases/merchandise. Big guests might not even show up to a proper signing session due to certain label/management restrictions, they will simply write the autographs in advance and then later during the event, staff members will hand them over (this happened with Aimer last year).  

Overall, I can recommend visiting this convention to everyone who 

is a big anime/manga fan 

is located in Europe 

won’t travel to Japan any time soon

wants a chance to see YK and the FJ girls up-close

doesn’t mind chaos and huge crowds

Fanbook + Season 3 End update!

Firstly, thank you so much to everyone who helped contribute to the fanbook with their messages and fanart. It was safely delivered, and Hayeon-nim, the artist, absolutely loved it! She was speechless and didn't have much to say. We were able to collect 16 messages and 5 artists/fanarts from 10 different countries!

Being a webtoon artist is a very tough job in Korea (or anywhere really), but is especially cutthroat in Korea. Artists are always under pressure to work hard and deliver high-quality work, and oftentimes they rarely see any nice comments about their art, only the comments if their art is weird or off-model. Their main audience, is of course South Korean citizens. But what about international fans? We still exist and also love her work. So this project, aimed to spread happiness to Hayeon-nim is a success!! :) So, the interesting thing is, (that I have no basis for, but is a nice thought), is I think she was so moved by our encouragement, that she delayed posting Ch 117. I was informed she received the package on Wed 11/8, and that same day an announcement was posted on KKP that had three pieces of information: 1) Ch 117 would be released on 11/11 at 10pm with something extra for the readers to celebrate the season 3 end, 2) the 3-Damu event (can read a chapter for free every 3 hours, excluding the 10 most recent chapters) for the next 2 months and 3) Season 4 was greenlit. While I made a post about the season 4 confirmation, I didn't notice at the time there was a date change, because the way they announce releases is kinda weird. Like, YM is a "Saturday" series but it's released Friday night at 10pm, and has always been like that. Also I don't look at dates, because it's always been "Friday morning" in my time zone haha.

So on Friday, I check at the usual time and noticed there was no chapter release; no announcement on DAON Updates on twitter, and Hayeon-nim didn't make an announcement either. So going back to the announcement on 11/8 it said something interesting: <YM> will finish up season 3 with episode 117. Readers, please look forward to the end of Season 3, updated Nov 11 at 10pm. Interesting.

I thought it was interesting in the sense that while unexpected hiatuses/chapter delays are common and can happen anytime, the language is what was different. Usually it's written like "Sorry for the delay", "Sorry for the wrong upload." "Sorry for the delay of unavoidable issues". But here, they specifically said the delay was for "something special". HMMMM.

The series hasn't had any production delays, and one day usually won't address it? so probably not that. As I predicted, this chapter would be the Rupelali reunion and us meeting "black bread guy (Rupert)". I had no idea what the "something special" could be, because the long-awaited RupeLali hug would be in 118... in like 5+ months haha. So maybe a manhwa original Rupelali hug??? but where would that fit in?? no idea.

The next morning, yeah nothing unexpectedly special in the chapter. so I went back to sleep HAHAH, it's too early my time ok.

Then I'm woken up again by my buddies who saw the "bonus" - her thank you art for the fan gift! KYAAAA. The message says "Thank you! Wish us luck we’ll be back for the final season! <-- something likes this

!!! This is so sweet of her?? She's super busy, ready for her well-deserved break and she had time to draw a bonus art for her fans instead of resting? T^T. She went out of her way, knowing that fans just suffered 3 months of a Rupelali drought, and an upcoming 5+ months of more drought, and gifted us with this wonderful bit of cuteness to tide us over until Season 4 returns? Buck & Eddie: Eddie and Linda have a great friendship

After Eddie quit the 118 in 5x10 “Wrapped in Red” he transferred to another position within the department, started working as the LAFD’s Twitter Liaison and his office was housed inside of Metro Dispatch (related post Stages of Eddie).  While he was there, he developed a great friendship with Linda as they discussed recipes and she gave him tips on how to cook.  It appears that Eddie got all the information he needed from Linda to cook the meal he prepared in 5x11 “Outside Looking In” for Christopher and Buck (that’s right, there was no one else present since she didn’t even eat any of Eddie’s food: related post Fathers and son).  Usually Buck and Eddie talk about everything with each other especially after the lawsuit (except for recently since Buck didn’t talk to Eddie about agreeing to be someone’s sperm donor: related post Lawsuit vs Sperm Donor) and even though Buck and Eddie talked several times about Eddie’s possible return to active firefighting in 5x11 and 5x14 “Dumb Luck”, Linda was the only person at Metro Dispatch who Eddie talked with about how much he missed being a firefighter.  He explained the way he felt when he was able to ride on the rigs and work with the hoses in 5x16 “May Day” and she responded with something she said her mother always told her, “When I was in my twenties, my mother liked to say repeatedly, Linda you can tie yourself in knots trying to find a career that suits you. But at the end of the day, God will tell you where you need to be in this world”.  He responded with how he hoped God would give him a shout soon and their conversation took place the same day as the dispatch fire.

After the fire was extinguished, Eddie walked out with the rest of the 118 and Linda told him, “God has spoken!”; therefore her comment was the confirmation he had been looking for so that he could go back to firefighting.  While Buck showed Eddie his job as a firefighter was worth it in 5x14, after he took Eddie and Christopher to Equine Therapy so that Eddie could see Charlie, Linda was able to help Eddie while he was away from the 118 because she was there for him, she listened to him and she didn’t judge any of his decisions.  She was both impartial and objective with him.  Eddie only allows himself to be vulnerable in front of Buck but with Linda, Eddie was able to express himself in a way that he’s probably only demonstrated in front of his abuela Isabel, his tia’ Pepa (related post Diaz Family Dynamics) or with his other good friend Karen, Hen’s wife and Denny’s mother (related post Eddie and Karen).  Eddie and Linda had fun together and they appeared to be the chaotic duo of dispatch who probably knew all the latest gossip and they watched from a distance while sipping their coffee as the chaos between May and Claudette unfolded in 5x16.

After Eddie made his decision to return to the 118, as usual Eddie wasn’t allowed to communicate with Maddie in CANON even though it’s obvious that he had an office inside of the new dispatch center. Also he was still working there on Maddie’s first day back but they were never shown in a scene together even though May and Linda sat right across from each other.  Linda was shown welcoming Maddie back to work but the show was once again deliberate in keeping Eddie and Maddie away from each other because they didn’t show Eddie talking to Maddie (related post Maddie and Eddie), they also didn’t show his departure and they didn’t show him saying goodbye to Linda.  Reminder, Linda was in the same training class as Maddie during season 2, therefore she and Maddie were friends first. It appears Eddie and Linda might still be friends and they probably continue to discuss new recipes and the parts of his job that he feels comfortable only sharing with her.  Similar to his friendships with Karen and Chimney, Eddie’s friendship with Linda will probably continue to develop offscreen (related post Eddie and Chimney) unless the show finally decides to show them hanging out on one of his days off.

bingewatched the entirety Rise of the TMNT recently and adored every second. I want to inject this art style directly into my veins, so I decided to try and redraw some screenshots (thank u Fancaps.net), two from the first ep and one from the movie (which is incredible btw, please watch it).

Leo was already my favorite from back when I watched 2012 (…’s first season, we didn’t have any of the others rip), and then Rise went and turned him into Sonic the Hedgehog so of course I was gonna love him. horrid little man. I’d die for him.
