I know that Spock is reacting to McCoy (and the men in general) being attracted to the Mudd women... but in between my Spones brain, the one girl trying to attract McCoy outright using Spock's 'fascinating' line, and how Spock reacts later when he sees McCoy getting courted in Friday's Child... yeah, he may not realize it but someoooone's jealous~!

i hope the ts*ift lyrics thing & kendrick x drake beef helps people finally realize that most white Americans as a whole are generally not very good consumers of art and media and lack media literacy.

I realized this in college when I was at orientation, they were playing Drunk in Love and this (smart! highly educated!) white girl was talking about how Beyoncé is overrated and was like "see? 'Surfboard'? what does that even mean it makes no sense, it's just dumb" and I just stared at her in disbelief. Like she for real just thought Black people make things up and speak gibberish.

Just go watch youtube reaction videos. You play any rap music (aka fast, complex poetry) for Black people and in 0.5 seconds they have digested most if not all of the lyrics and have already moved to deciphering all the layers of possible meaning and possible references. Any regular degular Black person does this, hell with ANY music not just rap. And they do so QUICKLY, like its a skill that is learned. Its part of Black culture and of the communal experience of enjoying music. Whereas most things go RIGHT over non-Black people's heads, they just nod along and they then assume if they don't understand something, that the thing itself is stupid and not THEM for lacking proper literacy and language skills.

#before the pandemic Black Americans had the highest rate of poetry consumption of any racial group- by a lot #whyt ppl on the other hand…#unless something is simple and elementary and spelled out for them - like this white ladys basic ass lyrics - they think its bad #its good because they understand it easily - its bad when they don't #if they like the beat but they dont understand it they will co opt it with their own version aka why u get white girls singin Nina Simone #or them singing THEY not like US without a lick of irony
