uhhh I'm late Seven Sentence Sunday tag from @bcbdrums ^^ Except it's monday. I'd queue it, but it will take up RAM in my head. Is it supposed to be six sentences from a WIP? I saw "six" listed in the tags haha. and er [insert debate here as to whether dialogue and the sentence before/after it is one sentence] Well, here ya are, a snippet from "Constancy:"

Abarn couldn't help his kicked-puppy look catching the heavy bō pole tossed to him. He twirled it once in his fingers and held a sigh. "It's not quite the same as practicing with your partner..." Spirit remarked cautiously disappointed. Stein took off his gloves and extended a gentle honest hand mismatching his blank and observing face. "You don't think so?" A slight hesitation, and the older boy returned the gesture, soft fingers meeting a calloused palm, his image waving into a formless streak of light until he reformed into a staff. A snap into Stein's grip, Spirit's slight gasp was involuntarily from his newfound weightlessness within the practiced dexterity of his meister...

we all know i love a good writers game but i've done the wip game so many times that it's genuinely become redundant so i've decided to make my own little game!

bro she's fucking cold Lucy Heartfilia and the cold were two things that were wholly and completely incompatible. A light breeze at the beginning of fall was enough to have her teeth chattering and she somehow lacked the ability to ever pick a seasonally appropriate outfit at the beginning of the day.

Cuffing Season The warm summer months bring with them a surge of job postings tacked upon the board at the guild, which always have everyone eager to get in on the Jewel rush before settling down as the temperature begins to drop with the change of seasons.

drunk lucy 2 The sunlight that streamed through the window would have been pleasant any other morning—Lucy would have revelled in the light and warmth it provided to her, relishing the feeling for just a moment or two longer than she needed as she snuggled up nice and cosy in her sheets before she woke up, refreshed and ready to take on a new day.

well i can't share the doc name bc thats a surprise so you just have to think one up yourself Somewhere in the drawers of her kitchen lay a scrapbook of all of the recipes Lucy had scrounged from recipe books and magazines over the years.

grocery shopping Natsu wasn’t entirely sure how he’d managed to get himself dragged into this. There were few things he hated more than grocery shopping—there were too many people, and sounds, and lights, and decisions, and food that he couldn’t eat until he got home.

hair time Glancing up at his reflection in the mirror, Natsu dragged his hand through his hair as he made note of his appearance.

insecure natsu teehee Finishing up their job should have been a quick affair. Hand in the bad guys, get the reward money, head back home to Magnolia. Should, being the key word there.

kinktober 19 (this one isn't gonna get done for kinktober sorry lol) Lucy was a creature of routine. Thursdays were her self-care nights—something she made abundantly clear to anyone she thought might interrupt her alone time (Natsu and Happy).

kiss compliation Lucy still felt giddy every time they so much as brushed hands and Natsu never made any attempt to hide the wide grin and heart eyes he sent in her direction every time they were around.

NATSU HAS A BREEDING KINK!!!!! The dialogue and subsequent laugh track playing from the television went in one ear and out the other, little more than background noise as Natsu lazed around on the couch.

natsu is a perverttttt The sigh of relief that Lucy lets out as they step into her apartment is a familiar one—one that Natsu has heard a million times over at the end of the day, after a job well done.

shirt For as much as Lucy loves cute clothes and getting dressed up all nice and pretty, she also values being comfortable—something that some of her cuter clothes do not afford her.

something there that wasn't there before “Knowing not that this was indeed the legendary sword called Excalibur, Arthur tried to pull it from the stone. He tried once, to no avail. He tried a second time, but still he could not pull it out. Then, for the third time, Arthur drew forth the sword-”

Lucy paused her monologue, waiting for her partner to interrupt, as was written in the script, only to be met with silence. Upon looking over at Natsu, she found him lying on the bed lazily looking over the script in hand but clearly not paying any mind to his scene partner.

too many beds The soft tap of fingers against keys filled the quiet as the receptionist looked through the vacant rooms of the inn, Natsu and Lucy waiting patiently on the other side of the desk.

“And was that one bed or two?” The woman asked, looking up at the couple.

“One.” “Two.”

i won't be sharing every wip i have bc i wanna rewrite most of them, but here's a few!

untitled The gray block of solid stone stood proudly in the graveyard. Great wizards got great spots in the graveyard, Lucy learned six months ago. Though six months wasn’t a very long time, it had felt like forever when her life turned upside down like this.

big spoon With Natsu Dragneel, physical contact was inevitable. The fire wizard craved other people’s presence like a magnet - when he fought his fists spoke for this craving, and when he didn’t fight he had two people who could satisfy his needs.

nose nuzzles “Why are all my snacks outside their cupboards?”

When Lucy started her day she did not predict this situation. Her kitchen table was barely visible under the five bags of chips, multiple boxes of cookies, the wide assortment of candy and the three bottles of sodas splayed across the wooden surface. She honestly didn’t even know she had all these snacks - Natsu and Happy usually ate them all as soon as they entered the house.

random fic (mom and dad are fighting) Lucy was so unbelievably fed up with Natsu. Even looking at him had her filled with an indescribable rage, practically making her fume. That stupid, idiot man! She had never felt this anger before, not even against a tough enemy she was facing during extra hard missions. No, no words could describe the resentment she felt towards Natsu, not even coming from her, a proper writer.

edolas consequences Oh good lord. Lucy did not anticipate seeing a small replica of herself on the one way road in this random place. And she did not foresee this mini-Lucy calling normal-Lucy “mommy”. Not at all. And even more shocking? The wild pink mane the child carried, that couldn’t belong to anyone other than Natsu Dragneel.

nostalgia and fika “Please, please, PLEASE, let me take a break!”

Lucy almost sobbed as she took another step. A two-day trip to Hargeon was not the best way to break in her new heels, and she honestly never would have picked those shoes if she knew that the “quick walk” Natsu had been talking about, was in fact a hike and not a leisure stroll.

Five Things You Never Get Tired of Writing

Rules: list five things you never get tired of writing. It can be tropes, themes, characters, phrases, whatever brings you joy. then tag five people!

Angst with a happy ending - I love absolutely wrecking Liam my characters and putting them through the wringer emotionally and mentally, but then having them deal with and overcome those obstacles.

Second chance romance - There’s something about the whole “right person, wrong time.” There’s the angst, the history and tension that’s already there between the characters, the connection they have that makes them unable to disentangle themselves from one another, the personal growth, and that hard-fought love 🫠 It all makes me weak.

Childhood friends to lovers - This trope makes me a puddle of mush. There’s already a deep-rooted connection established between the characters, and they’re so afraid to cross that line because they couldn’t stand to lose that friendship, and they will come up with every excuse as to why the other person couldn’t possibly see them that way, so they force themselves to just keep quiet. The secret feelings, the secret jealousy, the secret yet mutual pining … it’s all *chefs kiss* 🤌

Banter - I love some good sarcastic, witty, banter, whether it’s between friends, enemies, lovers, doesn’t matter. And when the banter starts to teeter on the edge, where they are purposely trying to push certain buttons to get a rise out of the other, lol.

Flashbacks - I am an absolute sucker for them. I love writing those glimpses into these significant moments of the past that give a better understanding of who the characters are, why they are the way they are, etc.

Requirements:

Fanfiction must be new, not be posted anywhere beforehand, and ideally created for this event. It must not exist as a published work elsewhere. 

The fanfiction should be a continuous storyline. Though they can be chaptered works, those chapters must not be disconnected like a collection of unrelated one-shots. What we’re looking for is a coherent, 20,000 words minimum story with a narrative flow.

Ratings and Triggers:

Please properly rate your fanfiction. Ao3 is a great way to get an idea of what your rating may be. We ask you to list any and all triggers contained as well. If you have any questions on this, or wonder if a certain aspect would require a trigger warning, please ask the mods!

Aus and Genres:

We are allowing all genres and Aus (Alternate Universe settings) so long as they falls under the gen category! We do ask that you give a general explanation of the AU in your summary so that the artists will be able to get a grasp of what they will be drawing from. This is the same for your summary even if you are not writing an au.

We will have a form for you to fill out for your submission for your summaries. As a preview:

Q. Are original characters allowed?

Yes, though they should not be a main focus of the fic.

Q. What if I posted a one-shot of my fic somewhere else but I want to turn it into a longer fic for the Genshin GenBang (GGB)?

As long as you are creating a stark ending and beginning to this fanfiction, then you may use it. You cannot bring in a fanfiction you have posted and is in progress.

Q. Will my name/username be given along with my outline to artists/beta readers for claiming?

We will be keeping the usernames out of both claiming periods, so it will be a secret who is writing what. However, if you want to avoid working with a particular artist/beta reader, let us know privately beforehand  and we will avoid pairing them with you.

Q. What if the artist I’m working with drops out?

We will do our best to get you a new artist ASAP via our list of Pinch Hitters. Additionally, both mods are going to be labeled as Pinch Hitters. :D

Q. What if nobody chooses my fic at claiming?

There is always a risk of your piece not being chosen, in which we will do our best to assign you a Pinch Hitter. As we stated before, both mods are listed as Pinch Hitters. However, if for some reason all Pinch Hitters are unable to work on your fanfiction, we will work with you on what to do next.

Feral in a good way? I love when someone is described as talking in a purr?! Is this revealing too much about me I'm unsure.... Example to defend my choice-

"What, is the Commander of the Blood afraid of losing to a Skaikru girl in a little sparring match?" Clarke purred as she sashayed closer, putting an extra swing into her hips as Lexa stonily stared at her from across the room.

15. I don't write in the margins usually, but my copy of Braiding Sweetgrass has the pages dog eared to hell and back to mark my favourite lines, quotes, etc. If it's a virtual copy I will highlight but that is transient since it isn't ink and paper. I have a copy of Blood and Chocolate (one of my favourite books growing up, by Annette Curtis Klause) that is literally falling apart and the spine is cracked. I love seeing that books have been physically loved and used, the use reflected in their covers and pages. There are no pristine books that I own and I am ~not~ sorry about it.

which character(s) turned out differently from what you had planned? how so?

This is a tough one because I feel like I really try to keep to a plan with my writing. Maybe in my omega fic, I had Louis being more of an asshole. I want to write a fic where he's a bad boy, really mouthy and Harry is a true princess. It might be in the works. Might be.

how did you change as a writer? did you learn anything new? started to plan instead of pants? share your wisdom!

Well, I guess I've been really trying to trust myself and my writing. I honestly think I'm a shit writer. Like no talent. Kinda pathetic. No real structure. But I've been trying really, really, really hard to change my way of thinking. It's not always easy and I fail a lot. But I think it's important to try and feel validated and supported in your writing. To have that confidence.

I think it might be fun to look back on what we've all achieved this year, let you give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back and also share what you love.

1. How do you feel 2022 has gone in terms of writing?

the beginning of this year was great in terms of writing, i had a somewhat easy semester of classes so school didn’t really get in the way, and i didn’t have to work too much this summer, so that was great! as the year progressed tho, my confidence started to struggle, and my self-worth in this fandom kinda declined. i’m still working on getting over that and creating something i know you all would like and i would be proud of. a new job, a harder class load, and grad school prep really made it difficult for me. i’m proud of how far i’ve progressed though!

2. What piece are you proudest of this year? It can be a shot/blurb/headcannon, a whole series or even a specific chapter.

3. Is there anything you posted that you wish had reached more people? (No such thing as a flop here!) Shout it out, it might catch a new pair of eyes!

i believe that all of my fics have done as well as they possibly could’ve, but i wish ego parts 2 and 3 would’ve gotten more attention. i know that unexpected additions to fics don’t do as well as the first part sometimes, though. i think ego is just my proudest bit so im protective of it lmao

4. Can you give us a hint of anything coming before the end of the year? Maybe even a little taster?

before the end of the year, you’ll certainly get more Table For Two (maybe even the finale of the series?) but from me specifically, i’m hoping to finish up a sammy wip to hold you all over until my new josh series is ready to be posted!

5. Are you setting any writing goals for next year, or just going with the flow? If you are, what are they?

mostly going with the flow, but i am setting goals to work on my confidence, discipline, and time management. i am working on sticking to smaller goals (such as writing a certain amount a week) and staying true to it, not posting for notes and rather posting because i am proud of what i’ve done, and figuring out ways to fit writing into my life as a student.

6. Do you have any one shots or finished pieces you're tempted to expand on or revisit next year?

ego, when the night is over, and maybe even a little josh x bip and danny x bip action in the chamomile au. we will see about all of that tho.

7. Is there anything new you're tempted to try out? A new style/trope/AU/another person in the fandom?

i think Wings of Midas will be a new stretch for me in many ways. forbidden love, suuuuuuper slow burn, and unrequited love. not to mention the research im trying to do in order to build the au and the mysteries behind it. it’s a really intricate piece

8. Now to hype some other writers! What's a piece you read back in the first half of the year that you can shout out?

oh dear i have the worst memory. tears of rain by my love @streamingcolors-gvf was (and still is) one of my favorite series. pretty by @jakekiszkaenthusiast is another off of the top of my head. and lazarus and abaddon ofc by @garbagevanfleet

9. And how about something you've read more recently?

the perfect treat by @streamingcolors-gvf has been in my head a lot recently (i wonder why…) so there’s that.

10. A fun one to finish...If you could insert yourself into any fic in the fandom, which would it be and what do you think would happen?

is it vain to insert myself into my own fic… kidding kidding.

put me in sugar plz, im tryna see something…it wouldn’t end how it did, just know that (but i know it had to end like it did, so this is all just /lh)

2022 Writer's Tag

I think it might be fun to look back on what we’ve all achieved this year, let you give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back and also share what you love. When you’re done maybe tag someone else so they can share too?

1. How do you feel 2022 has gone in terms of writing? - It was the year I started sharing my writing! It started out solid and ended with some writer's block, but I'm overall proud of having the confidence to share my work!

2. What piece are you proudest of this year? It can be a shot/blurb/headcannon, a whole series or even a specific chapter. - Everyone loves Boston Calling, but I loved writing Summer Wine - I am a sucker for cowboy Sammy.

3. Is there anything you posted that you wish had reached more people? (No such thing as a flop here!) Shout it out, it might catch a new pair of eyes! - Secret Soulmate! Especially Chapter 4, I worked so damn hard on that. But that's my bad - I've not been as consistent updating.

4. Can you give us a hint of anything coming before the end of the year? Maybe even a little taster? - Well there may have been a spooky Sam fic that never got posted around Halloween. Spooky season can be all year round, right? 🤭

5. Are you setting any writing goals for next year, or just going with the flow? If you are, what are they? - I definitely want to have a more consistent posting schedule and I know the lack of Danny fics I have is CRIMINAL... so more Danny!!

6. Do you have any one shots or finished pieces you’re tempted to expand on or revisit next year? - I do have an idea for a second part to Maroon!

7. Is there anything new you’re tempted to try out? A new style/trope/AU/another person in the fandom? - I love all the fantasy AU's but I don't think I could ever pull them off as well as other writers.

8. Now to hype some other writers! What’s a piece you read back in the first half of the year that you can shout out? - Okay so I'm obviously going to say Clandestine by @lvnterninthenight. Anything by @garbagevanfleet or @gretavanlace obviously. There's so many more but my memory is failing me right now!

9. And how about something you’ve read more recently? - I loved Apartment 23 by @joshfuckingkiszka and I can't wait to read more!!

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

#i often wonder about how many things would be considered classic or high art had they only received the marketing #how many short films that were made for class could have been the most powerful thing you'd ever seen? if you'd seen them? #“you know the greatest films of all time were never made” etc etc #but like. these works of art ARE being made. it's just enjoyed by a smaller audience with equal impact though #i think about this one furry i used to follow on insta who had the coolest worldbuilding ever. it's been years. #thought prompted by that sketch of nimona from ten years ago that was just for a character design #posted to the creator's tumblr and now it's nominated for best animated feature film at the oscars #and by the genuine emotional reaction a fan comic made me feel. how much work had gone into it. how beautiful it was to me. #idk what to tag this but i hope whoever needs to hear it does #writing #writer #fandom #fandom culture #artist
