just watched nimona feeling FANTASTIC
#hi friend who watched it with me if you see this <3333 i had a wonderful time i hope u did too#i am not good at articulating my thoughts in the moment but my brain was going BOING BOING BOING the whole time because THE SYMBOLISM....#(spoilers below be warned)#but the metaphors man. it's all about the metaphors#the colors and the dichotomy gahhhh (the black + white + pinkish-orange)#the blend of traditional medieval and modern in the setting because It Is A Changing Era#the fact that every one of nimona's forms was part of her identity! every time she was shown on screen it was very clearly her!#except in those last few scenes where she had Very Clearly Became What People Wanted To See !!!#and not one individual form could encompass her at all!#the mix of Individual People vs The System driving the story#the whole !!! the whole history being based on something inaccurate and one-sided and the walls literally breaking down.#(the fact that i didn't even notice when the director died lmao. i had to think back just now like 'wait what happened to her again')#the queer solidarity though auhhhh#the whole time at the beginning i was like 'OH IT'S BALLISTER ALMOST BEGINNING TO BE ACCEPTED... BUT NIMONA IS STILL TOO MUCH HMM?'#canonically gay & trans characters but they are a representation as well...#anyways. one of The Movies Ever i think#i am so so happy that it did get made!! and screw di sney for that i guess!!!#yeah. watch nimona i guess#i'm sad i didn't get to watch it through netflix though (my family lost the password). but when i can i just kind of want to loop it#so they know yknow#terra is rambling

This is after the Hyde incident.
New found love pt. 1: Wednesday x fem! reader
Masterlist Next Part
Summary: Enid calls you over for a sleepover, but you can't sleep. Wednesday finds you at the balcony and spends sometime with you.
Wattpad: Nekomale1

Tumblr media
Enid knew you and Wednesday liked each other. It was obvious, well not obvious but she found out when Wednesday asked a lot about you.. After the Hyde incident of course. You were one of the suspects. Of course, a person who could talk, understand, turn into, clone animals was a big red flag, she guessed.
Then
Enid forced Wednesday to immediately apologize to you after. "I'm-" Wednesday inhaled sharply, closing her eyes before exhaling. "I'm sorry.... I confronted you without knowing the true killer." Wednesday said, looking at the back of you and reading the board Enid held for her. "Addams, I know Enid's forcing you. So, it's fine, I forgave you a long time ago." You said with your arms crossed across your chest, looking down at Wednesday.
Yes, you were taller than her and Enid. Wednesday was surprised, you couldn't see it but she was. Aswell as Enid who was still standing behind you. "You did?" Wednesday asked, " Yeah, it was a misunderstanding, plus, we both know you wouldn't be sorry for anything." You said, with a smirk.
"And Enid begged me to forgive you." You continued. "I never begged you!" Enid shot back but kept quite when both you and Wednesday looked at her with glares. You turned back to Wednesday with a sigh. "Friends?" You asked extending your hand for her to shake it. Wednesday looked at the hand for a while, you're hand was getting tired, she shook it. Wednesday could admit, your hand was warm and hers was cold. Perfect combination.
"See you later Addams." You said, winking at her before leaving. How dare you?! You left Wednesday's face red and her heart beating out of her chest!!! She looked at the spot where you were standing and looked where you were talking and laughing with Yoko. Enid quickly came to Wednesday with almost a sad face, she hadn't seen you wink at Wednesday and Wednesday was glad for that. "Friends?! How dare she?!-" Enid was to busy rambling to notice Wednesday not listening and looking at you. What are you doing to her?
-------
Now
"Should invite Y/N to a sleepover?" Enid asked, looking at her phone. She had been chatting to you a whole hour. Wednesday's shocked you hadn't hanged up on Enid. "It wouldn't matter, as long as she doesn't disturb my writing time." Wednesday said, sitting on her chair and getting her typewriter ready. "I'll invite her." Enid said after a short period of time.
It didn't take long for you to knock on the door. Wednesday and Enid both knew that knock, anyone close to you knew it. It was a beat, it was a quick 3 knocks then a 1 knock again. Enid practically ran to the door. Enid hugged you tightly like you were the only person on the world. "Wednesday said we mustn't make a noise since she's in her writing time or hour." Enid said dragging you in, you closed the door with your foot, surprisingly it closed properly. "Afternoon Addams." You said with a grin, but Wednesday couldn't see it since she had her back faced to you. But she was sure had a grin on your face.
"Williams." Was all Wednesday said back. You knew she was just saying hey back but in....Wednesday? Enid dragged you to her bed. "What movie are we watching?" Enid asked, smiling at you. You were to busy putting out your laptop from the bag you brought. It had snacks, toiletries and more. "Nimona I think is the name?" You said finally finding your laptop. "Oh! I've heard of it!" Enid said, moving so you could sit next to her.
------
Wednesday was halfway done with her writing time when she heard snoring from the other side of the room. She looked over to see Enid putting her whole body on yours, suffocating you. You pushed Enid off and got up. You were in a big SpongeBob shirt and brown pants that had little Patrick's on them, it wasn't fashionable, but it was cute. Wait. Cute? Cute?!!Wednesday almost threw up. You got up and put on your black sweater on.
You walked to the balcony, unaware of Wednesday's eyes following your every move like a hawk. When you got to the ledge of the balcony, Enid sprung up. "Wednesday! This is your chance!" Enid whisper shouted, walking up to the raven-haired girl. "Chance?" Wednesday said, getting up and turning around. "Yeah! I set this up! So go!" Enid said, pushing Wednesday to the window.
Wednesday huffed before going outside to the balcony. "What are you doing up?" You asked looking over to Wednesday while sitting on the ledge. "You disturbed me." Wednesday said, not looking at you. "Sorry, I just got suffocated by Enid." You joked with a grin, now looking at the half-moon. "But I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disturbed you." You said after a tired sigh. Wednesday didn't answer, she was busy thinking about how to - how Enid puts it - the flow of the conversation.
"Why can't you sleep? Other than Enid suffocating you." Wednesday said, looking over to you. You chuckled at this. "Nightmares. It might sound weird, but...." You said but stopped at looked down with furrowed brows. Wednesday knew some stuff about you and that when you think you do that. You sighed hard.
You turn to Wednesday. "So you see, I'm writing a novel, like you almost. And the main character, Elizabeth is in love with the new character, Alex. Elizabeth wants to confess her love but is afraid Alex will leave her like her ex, Ashley." You said, taking a deep breath so you can continue. " Ash was sweet but a big bitch, Elizabeth was so in love that she couldn't see it. So one time, when Elizabeth was working. She got back to see Ash getting ate by her best friend, Ethan. So Elizabeth did what a normal person would do. Swore at both of them and kicked them out. The worst part was that it was on the couch."
You were out of breath so took a break. "So you can see why Elizabeth doesn't trust her feelings towards Alex." You said looking desperately at Wednesday. Wednesday was trying to process everything you just told her. She was terribly confused, why would you ask her for love advice? Why not ask Enid? You must have been desperate to ask her.
"Enid should know this stuff, don't be foolish." Wednesday said, quickly walking back to the room and continuing her writing time. You sighed deeply and went back and slept next to Enid.
----------
You were typing away on your laptop. Busy with an essay, when your phone rang. You picked it up and looked at. It was Enid. You quickly answered, "Enid?" You answered confused for why she's calling you. She knew you were working on your essay. You pacifically told her the day before and on the phone. "Hey Y/N!!" She screamed in the phone, but you were used to it. "Enid, you know that I'm writing an essay. So, you have 5 minutes to tell me what you want." You said frustrated.
"Fine, I wanted to get you to ask your crush out." Enid said in a little grumpy voice. "She's clearly not into me. And if you say, "Well she keeps asking about you" it's not going to work." You said with a high-pitched Enid voice when you mimicked her. "Oh, come on! That was last time! She won't do that again!" Enid protested. "A week ago, she called me foolish for asking her for character advice." You said frustrated. " You mean life advice? Or love advice? Or-" Enid said but got interrupted by you.
"Yes! I get it Sinclair!" You shouted back with a roll of your eyes. "She was confused! She isn't great with feelings." Enid defended. "Did she tell you that or did you guess?" You deadpanned. "She told me okay?!" Enid shouted irritated before taking a deep breath. "Just give her a chance? Okay? Maybe tutoring?" Enid asked desperately.
"I'm great in all my classes." You deadpanned. "Well fail one!" Enid said excitedly. "I am going fail one, since you called me!" You said angrily. "Great! Let's continue then!" She said happily. You rolled your eyes. "Enid I'm sorry but I can't fail. Goodbye." You said hanging up.
Enid sadly put her phone away. "It didn't work!" Enid said, getting up and walking over to Wednesday's side of the room. "Why would you call her foolish?!" Enid said angrily. "It's her fault, she came to me for life advice and I gave her some." Wednesday shoot back, not looking up from her novel. "It was a story! Not life advice!" Enid said, pacing back and forth. "Why do you even care?" Wednesday said, flipping a page of her novel.
"Because you guys like each other!" Enid shouted stressed. " I swear I'm going to spoon my eyes out if you guys don't get together!" Enid said, almost stepping on Thing. "I would pay to see that." Wednesday said, still not looking up. "You're asking her out tomorrow!" Enid told Wednesday before going to her side of the room. "I will do no such thing." Wednesday said, now looking to Enid with a glare. "You will do such a thing!" Enid shouted back with her own glare to Wednesday. "And that's final!" Enid shouted again. And it was. Wednesday surprisingly didn't say anything back.
----------
You thankfully finished your essay last night and gave it in this morning. But now you were being dragged by an angry Enid. And she was angry and fast. "Would you slow down, Enid?!" You shouted, trying to keep up. Enid didn't listen and actually went faster. You two got to Enid's and Wednesday's dorm. She pushed you in and locked the door. You got up from the floor with a grunt.
"Why are werewolves so fucking strong?" You grunted out. Something caught your eye, Wednesday was typing away on her typewriter. "Oh fuck this." You said angrily and walked out to the balcony, when you were about to morph into a bird and fly away, she just had to speak. "Running away from your problems I see." Wednesday's voice rang out. "At least you know your the problem." You shot back.
"Empty threats won't help you." Wednesday said, still typing away. "Like you didn't help me?" You said, entering the room again. "You need love advice and you came to me. That was your big mistake." Wednesday shot back. "Clearly." You said, rolling your eyes. "I only needed help for my novel." You said, re-adjusting your bag that was thankfully still on your back.
"Novel? You don't have the brains or smarts to make such." Wednesday almost laughed. "You want proof?" You said, sitting on Wednesday's bed. "Enlighten me." Wednesday said, looking over to you. You huffed before taking out a few pages of your novel. "Here read this." You said, crossing your arms across your chest. Wednesday looked at the title "New found love." it read. Wednesday nodded once before telling Thing to give you the first few pages of her novel, while she read yours.
----------
Enid just came back from her date with Ajax. She hoped and prayed and hoped, that you and Wednesday didn't kill each other! She unlocked the door and peeked inside, she saw you standing by Wednesday's desk, laughing and arguing with her. "Elizabeth should have killed Ethan. It would have made a better story." Wednesday argued back. "She did want to kill Ethan but wanted to be the better person." You chuckled at Wednesday, leaning against the wall next to her desk.
"Well she would have been the better person if she killed him." Wednesday shot back, reading some papers on her desk. Were you guys flirting? Well novel flirting she guess but she sadly had to ruin it because her feet were killing her. Enid entered the room with a huff. But you and Wednesday were to busy talking about your novel to notice her. "Um hello?" Enid said offended.
"Oh hey Enid!" You greeted her with a grin and a wave. Wednesday turned around and looked at Enid. "Finally, I thought my ears would bleed out from her rants." Wednesday said before turning back to your novel pages. "Ouch." You said, putting a hand on your chest. Wednesday rolled her eyes from your fake act. "How was your date with Ajax." You asked with chuckle.
"He was busy." Enid sighed, flopping on her bed with a groan. "Busy how?" You asked with another chuckle. Enid gave you a glare and threw a pillow at you. You laughed and threw it back at her. "Not like that!" She groaned again, all you did was laugh. "Now leave, I want to talk to Wends" Enid said, giving you your bag and pushing you out the door before locking it. "Tell me everything!" Enid said, sitting on Wednesday's bed.
----------
It was the next morning and you were walking to Enid and Wednesday's dorm. You always went there in the morning. You picked Enid up and both of you would go to the Weathervane. You guys would eat breakfast and go back to school before it starts. You knocked on the door with you usual beat. Wednesday opened the door with her usual scowl. "Morning Addams. I'm here to pick Enid up." You said with your usual grin.
Wednesday moved so you could come in. So you did. Wednesday went to her desk and gave you your novel pages back. "It's not half bad. When you have more give it to me." Wednesday said in a small hint of tiredness in her voice. If you looked closer, you could see slight bags under her eyes. "Thanks, did you stay up all night Addams?" You asked, trying to hide your amusement from this.
"Are you amused?" Wednesday asked with a slight tilt of her head. "No! Of course not! Just....curious." You said with a small grin. "Curiosity kills a cat." Wednesday stated. "Yeah, it killed my cat." You said with a small smile. Wednesday's eyebrows slightly furrowed, urging you to continue. "A dog killed her in a fight between the two. Let's just say the dog didn't live to see another day." You said with a slight smirk and winked at Wednesday.
Enid finally was done with her hair and dragged you out the door but before she could, "You want anything while we're gone Addams?" You asked. "My usual." Wednesday said, walking back to her desk to start her writing time. "Got it!" You said, leaving the dorm. You of course closed the door behind you.
-----------
You had Wednesday's drink in your hand. You were walking back to her dorm. Enid went to visit Yoko. You knocked your beat on the door. Wednesday opened the door in her uniform and her bag on. "Here's your order." You said with a grin and handing Wednesday her drink. "What exactly is my order?" Wednesday tested you, walking out her dorm and locking the door behind her. "A quad over ice. Which is 4 shots of expresso." You said, walking next to Wednesday to class. Both of you were going to the same first class. Which was fencing.
You were wearing your white fencing suit with your helmet on, while Wednesday was wearing her black fencing suit, holding her helmet. Both of you were looking for a strip. You finally found one. Both you and Wednesday got ready to fence. Your stance was good, better than Wednesday expected. Wednesday of course won the first round. You both went back to your stances.
This time you won the round. Now it was the last round, you were defense and Wednesday was attacking you. The whole other 2 rounds were defense. So when you attacked Wednesday, she was shocked. But she attacked back, metal hitting metal was the sound ringing in your ears. You fell backwards when Wednesday did a blow that surprised you. You fell on your back with a grunt. Wednesday would have took the win there but gave you 5 seconds to get up. You got up and instantly started attacking Wednesday.
You grunted every time you attacked, something was clearly wrong but you didn't stop. There were blood spots when you attacked on the mat, but no one dared to stop the round. You final got Wednesday on the floor. She fell with a grunt. You poked the foil sword on her shoulder and took off your helmet. You were sweating and panting, your hair a slight mess. You threw your helmet and sword across the strip. You held your right hand in your left hand with a grunt. Blood coming out of your wrist. Bianca came from the crowd of students and came to your side.
"Are you okay?!" She said, ignoring Wednesday's presence. Wednesday got up herself with a slight grunt and dusted off her fencing suit. "You!" Bianca went up to Wednesday with a glare. "Bianca!" You shouted, stopping the girl from murdering the gothic girl. or trying to. "No Y/N! She broke your wrist!" Bianca defended. "Yeah, and Xavier broke your heart, but you don't see me trying to kill him." You shout back, making the crowd of students make 'ooh's'.
Bianca rolled her eyes, gave Wednesday a final glare before walking back to you. "Let's go to the infirmary." Bianca said, putting her hand on your shoulder to comfort you. "That won't be needed, I'll be taking her myself." Wednesday said, taking you left arm and dragging you out the fencing room before Bianca could reply. "Can you please slow down Addams?" You said, trying to catch up with Wednesday.
She slowed down a little, which you thanked her with a small smile. "Let me see." Wednesday said, going to a halt and gesturing to your right wrist. You hissed when Wednesday's cold fingers glided on your bleeding wrist. Wednesday was examining your bleeding wrist, you didn't feel any pain anymore. You were to busy examining her face to feel it. Her perfect jaw, her eyes, her pale skin. She looked even beautiful when concentrated.
Her bangs covering most of her forehead and eyebrows. And....wait....is that? It can't be. You moved your left hand up, hesitant to do this. Your fingers met her skin, and she halted her movements. Since you were taller, it was easier to do this. You brushed away some of her bangs from her left eyebrow. And there it was. An eyebrow slit. Wednesday Addams had an eyebrow slit. "You have an eyebrow slit." You unconsciously said, it just came out. "I don't know what you mean." Wednesday said as she stated to walk to the infirmary. With you behind you.
"It's clear Addams. Your bangs just blocked it." You said with big grin. Wednesday shot a glare, but you just laughed. "If you-" Wednesday tried to say but you interrupted her. " If I say anything, you'll bury me alive or whatever. I won't tell anyone. It will be our little secret." You said with a even bigger grin. Ignoring the pain in your wrist.

Hcs about the Rise boys with a younge rsister who is totally like nimona??
Punk music, always thinking about action, super into manipulating and robbery, whines every time one of the brothers knock out an enemy “how come you got to kill them??” <- an actual line from the movie- And basically yeah lol.
please and thank you so much!! Don’t forget to take breaks and take good care of yourself!!
okay so i haven’t watch nimona yet BUT i will do my absolute best at trying to embody her
(aka i did research and i’m praying it was enough)
Tumblr media
raphael ;
your relationship with raph is so !!
you respect him so much— like seriously!!! when they first found you, you were very intimidated by him, which made you dislike him.
but overtime you realized he was just a softy that could get mean when needed.
and honestly?? you respected that.
it’s like with mikey— complete opposites but besties!!
you hold him on such a high pedestal, he’s kind of your idol (strength wise mainly).
he’s always saying ‘remember no killing!’ and ‘you cannot kill that guy for not liking your outfit!’.
he’s the cool older brother and you love him!!
Tumblr media
donatello ;
now. you’d think that you and donnie would get along great considering you’re both yk… borderline murderers/psychopaths!
but… y’all fight ALL. THE. TIME.
it’s always over who gets to fight which person and who gets dibs on killing ‘knocking out’ said person.
poor raph ALWAYS has to break up your fights. the fights are to the point where it gets PHYSICAL.
BUUUT!! there are times where the two of you get along.
usually it’s when it’s super late and you both are very sleep deprived and running on 16 cups of coffee!
but hey, a win is a win i guess???
Tumblr media
leonardo ;
urgh leo… i feel like this is a very one sided hateship (if that makes sense?).
like, you love hate him and his dumb, corny jokes but he adores you!! he adores his little sister!! he’ll shower you in affection like he does w/ the others!!
all the hugs, head-locks, knuckle rubs (i think that’s what they’re called), etc etc.
he just adores you and really doesn’t care if you want to curb stomp him into oblivion (don’t look up curb stomping, just know that it’s violent).
your relationship with him is almost like his and donnie’s except donnie doesn’t actually want to stab him sometimes.
thoughhhh there are times where you’ll show him some love, whether that’s in the form of not attacking him for a few days or silently laughing at one of his terrible one-liners.
Tumblr media
michaelangelo ;
first of all—
you and mikey?? complete opposites but absolute besties!!
i feel like he’d see you try to do some dumb illegal shit but immediately go ‘no no no! let’s not do that!’ and pull you away—
he has to talk you out of a LOOOT of illegal things. like. A LOT.
one time you tried breaking into the empire state and almost killed a guard……… mikey thankfully followed you and stopped you!! (why did you try to break in? i haven’t the slightest clue!)
it just fits!!
you’d lay your life on the line for him!! honestly who wouldn’t??? just because he’s too good for this world doesn’t mean he should leave it!!
plus, you and doctor delicate touch are such a duo when need be.
OMG ALSO!!! i feel like you two would totally vibe to bratmobile, bikini kill, le tigre, jack off jill, & just so many riot grrl (fem led punk) bands!!!
y’all are just THE duo!!!!
Tumblr media
pls i hope i got her personality correct dkgsldna
also!!! i hope you liked this :)

Family (Platonic)
This one is a bit long!!! Nimona was so good, and meant so much to me! Wanted to do this as soon as I saw the film and have finally completed it! Just a quick warning, story contains some mentions of self doubt over lgbt identity, some mentions of Suicidal Ideation, and I think that is all (if I have forgotten anything, please let me know!!!). All my love to my lgbt siblings with everything going on right now <333 you matter so damn much! And this film coming at a time like this (and even more so after I learnt about the author of the graphic novel!) is everything!
Also, all my love to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, keep fighting the good fight!!! I wouldn’t be here writing this (or really any fanfic) without your incredible writing and work! <333
Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
Summary: Nimona and Y/N are not siblings by blood, but choice, friendship, and loyalty. They find that support and acceptance in each other; but, when they catch wind of a knight who is just has hated as them, they see an opportunity to find someone else to add to their family.
Tumblr media
If you had parents, you didn’t know them.
You just remembered always being out in the streets, just about standing by.
You never stole, you just took whatever left others you either found, or were given out of sympathy.
Pity did get you a long way, you had to admit.
People felt sorry for you, but then did nothing else to help you.
While it hurt, it never really put a chip on your shoulder. There was nothing anything you could do anyway. You couldn’t fight. You didn’t have a lot of strength in you.
One time, a group of people decided to leverage that. People like you; left behind and given nothing but scraps. Instead of coming together, however, they saw you as a weak link; something to blame for their issues and lot in life.
Just when you thought that would be it for you, someone called out. The pain stopped, but even if it lingered. You weren’t hit again. Your hearing was fuzzy, eyesight blurry.
You blacked in and out a few times.
When you came to, you are on a couch. You hear someone humming. You sit up, slowly, and see a girl around your age cooking.
“Oh, hey!” She says, turning back to you with a smile on her face, “don’t worry about those guys,” she assures you, “I took care of them.”
She seems almost proud.
Still, you just feel good that they’re gone now.
“You can have some of this, if you want,” she says, gesturing to her food.
“I don’t…I don’t want to be a burden,” you say.
You hear a growl, and see a red tiger in front of you, baring it’s teeth, “who said that?” She demands.
“No one really. Just…just the vibe, I guess?”
You look down, subconsciously; the girl seems to notice this, only watching you as you scramble to find the words you need. Then —
“I’m sorry…for not – for not knowing anymore. Could use someone like you out there.”
You feel something on your leg. Looking down, you see a red cat, rubbing itself on your leg. It looks up at you, before jumping on the couch.
“It’s not your fault, kid,” the cat says, “we’ll find them.”
You stroke the cat again. You feel safe. Sure, it’s a talking cat, but the cat was a girl a minute ago. You’ve seen what the world can hold magic wise. You know different things exist. Some people thrown out for all sorts of things they can’t control; this is that for her.
“‘We’?” You echo back to her, as she changes back to her redheaded form, arms crossed with a smirk on her face.
“Hell yeah, us!” She says, arms now up in the air, “we can watch each others back! Like a –“ her eyes light up, “like a sidekick!”
Something in your eyes brighten; something in hers soften, slightly.
They both do that a bit more as your smile widens, “ok then, where do we start?”
“Well, how about names?” She says, but there’s excitement in her eyes, “I’m Nimona!” She says, holding her hand out.
“I’m…” you say, holding out your hand and then pausing, “oh…”
She seems to catch onto what you mean, “I have a bunch of lists of names if you want to look?” She offers.
You nod, eagerly, and she fetches it – throwing some other items over her shoulder while she looks. She presents it to you. It’s a massive scroll that unfurls, “take your pick!” She says, arms outstretched to it like a ‘ta-da’ like pose. She’s proud of it.
You do pick one, even if it takes a bit of time. Still, you find one that works for you:
Y/N.
“Had a feeling you’d like that one,” she says, “I like it!”
You smile again. She does too, even if hers looks a bit like a snarl in a way; seems she’s already thinking of the damage you’ll do together. For you though, it’s about not being alone anymore.
You do get up to trouble. A lot of trouble. You paint art on walls; you play pranks on the guards so you can get somewhere – or sometimes just for fun.
Nimona’s ability to shapeshift is so damn cool. Internally, she feels a spark of happiness she hasn’t felt in a long time at your genuine acceptance and awe of her ability.
She, in turn, helps you find yourself as well. Your style, clothing wise. She notes things that make you uncomfortable as well. Sometimes that leads to deep chats; like the one you have about your lack of care for anything to do with sex or romance, or gender norms.
All she has to say to that is, “metal. Norms are for losers, anyway. I mean, end of the day, you’re Y/N, and I’m Nimona. That’s all that matters.”
It doesn’t matter if it’s something small or major that changes identity wise, her words are always the same and always true.
Her loyalty to you is the same as yours is to hers. You’re always defending her – despite her not always needing it – and backing her up in fights.
You always assure her she has you. You see her moments of vulnerability. Where the mask sort of drops. She always appreciates it. As while she’s not like you in the way of comforting people, she tries to learn from your softness and comforting manners.
You’re all each other have. At least, for a while anyway. You see the news of the manhunt for a man who killed the queen. Someone almost as hated as you are.
Nimona looks to you, and you know what your best friend is thinking.
So, you track him down. She does the talking; though at one point Ballister does look at you and seem to start implying you’re a monster to, and says, “hey, don’t look at them. Look at me,” he complies as he sees you looking around his room. You’re a curious thing.
“What — um, who are…?”
She raises an eyebrow, “they,” she starts, “are Y/N. My best friend and partner in crime and all things evil,” she then leans forward, “and I’m Nimona.”
“Yes…but, what does that mean?” He asks, trying not to piss her off. In his mind, scared he’ll become one of her – he’s sure – many victims.
A smirk appears on her face as she answers, “whatever we want it to mean.”
“Right. Yes. Ok,” he says, “that’s understandable.”
He sees you fiddling with one of his spare arms, “please be careful with that!” He says in fear. You put it back carefully, backing away from it. Nimona raises an eyebrow, letting you handle this. She knows you’re tougher than you look. Don’t get her wrong, you look better now; both a bit more comfortable in your own skin, but also decently fed.
“What is that?” You ask.
“Oh…it’s one of my spares. Just an old prototype I guess, for this,” he says, gesturing to his arm.
“Hm,” you say, looking at it and then the old version, “it’s always nice to have a spare.”
“Like a sidekick!” Nimona says, adding it one to try and persuade the knight – or ex-knight you guessed.
“No, no! Those things do not match!”
“Oh, come on!” Nimona snaps at Ballister. You just watch the interaction go on. She’s always been a stubborn one.
Still, he leaves on his own. You sigh, looking to your friend, “come on,” you say, opening the door to go to where he will end up.
“Ok, kid. You ok with a quick flight?” Nimona asks you as you look at the scale of the building. It’s intimidating; that, and heights were never your thing.
You gulp, “y-yeah.”
“Alright!” She says, happy you’re trying to put yourself out there more.
So, up you go. Despite the fact that she can shapeshift, she keeps you in mind as well as you sneak into the cells section. You do, however, keep watch, letting her go into the cell and break Ballister out the old fashion way – and the way she more enjoys, violently punching the release.
In the closet, you help keep it closed, finding more items. Out of the two, you’ve always been the more resourceful one.
She gives you a single look after Ballister makes his promise. You know what she’s going to do, so you just pull Ballister back a bit as Nimona shifts once again.
Having had some close calls and only gotten away via her shifting, you’re able to stay on better than Ballister, though you do help him when you can reach him. As for you and Nimona, however, you’re pretty much in synch with each other.
However, then comes the need for an exit. You know Nimona can fly, but she can’t hold both of you. So —
“I’ll lead them away,” you say, not allowing anyone to stop you as you take off in the opposite direction.
“Y/N, no! Come back!” Nimona calls out to you. She knows you are quick on your feet, but this is a bad place to try to be. Don’t get her wrong, she’s having fun causing havoc, but now what she might gain in a boss, she may lose a friend. She won’t do that.
Still, nothing she can do. Boss comes first.
So, off she goes, getting them both to the floor.
“Do you see them?” Nimona asks; and he hears the concern in her voice. She’s violent, but cares a lot. He respects that. Despite being surround and fighting, he tries as much as he can to keep an eye out for you.
“There!” He shouts, pointing up before dodging another strike.
Nimona turns as well, smirking, but concern still in her eyes as she sees you near a ledge. You don’t even think about it, you just jump.
So, with the wings once again, she flies upwards, dodging any attacks, before catching you and bring you down to the ground.
You both roll, before joining the Frey once again. You’ve never been as good in fights as her, but your agility and quick thinking does help. Nimona goes more aggressive once she sees Ballister in trouble. You go around some of the guards to help, but you’re taken down too.
That’s only enrages her further.
After you escape, you both start to bond with him. And, he seems a bit more at ease with you both now. You did break him out after all. So, he lets you help. Being a bit more open to ideas.
You all get down to the subway, seeing your wanted images. Somehow, you had never been photographed, so you were just a question mark. Seemed fitting, in a way, you guessed.
“Hm, no,” your best friend says, looking from you to the question mark you, “I don’t see the semblance.”
You roll your eyes, and she just giggles to herself. Ballister watches you both, eyes softening slightly at your genuine friendship and connection.
On the subway, he asks you guys, “so, how long have you both known each other?”
You share a look; her’s is asking if you want to say it, and also asking if you are ok with it being said; yours is the same.
You both shrug. She goes first with her tale, using it to make fun of Ballister.
He still seems a little disturbed by her ability to shift, even asking her to go back a to the ‘normal’ version of her. You both raise eyebrows at him. Sure, he tries to cover up by saying that it’s for other people, and not him, but you don’t exactly buy it.
“Are some of your best friends, ‘normal’?” You say, having heard that before with some people trying to cover up their hatred for you by saying that they know others. It’s bullshit.
“What? I — I, no… No, that’s not what I meant —“ he says, trying to correct his error.
“Too late,” you say, folding your arms, looking away.
Nimona changes back to her human self, putting a hand on your shoulder.
“I, uh, I’m sorry,” Ballister says. You keep looking away.
“Boss means it, Y/NN,” Nimona says, squeezing your shoulder a bit.
Ballister goes to say something else, but Nimona only holds up a hand. He nods, knowing that this is your moment. You need your own breather.
After a moment, you look up at him, seeing his eyes holding a genuine guilt to it. And a plead to make this all better. It’s the first time someone other than Nimona has looked at you. Like a person. A friend, maybe even.
You look at your best friend, the only person you’ve ever been able to call family, and she gives you a smile. You mirror it, putting your hand on top of hers.
“Thanks, Nim,” you say softly.
She removes her hand, before nudging you with her arm, “course, squirt. You and me, right?” She says, holding out her pinky finger. You link yours to hers.
“You and me. Nimona and Y/N.”
“And that’s all that matters.”
Ballister smiles. Then a thought comes to him about the question he asked but didn’t get answers to.
“Are you guys siblings?”
You look at each other again, and nod in sync.
“Closest we’ll ever get to it.”
“That’s cool,” he says, “seriously. Having a friend is…it must be nice.”
Again, you share a look; your journeys have been rough, and you’ve saved each other more times than you can count, but he’s right.
Nimona changes to a small boy, and you smile at her comment of “I am today,” before she goes off to do her part of this hastily cobbled together plan.
Ballister notices your look, “what’s wrong?”
“Just…it’s weird.”
Ballister chuckles, but not in a mean why; more surprise than anything else, “can’t be, especially not compared to my day so far.”
You nod, only really half listening. But, the words come out of your mouth before you can stop them, “I don’t…I don’t feel a fit in with…all this,” you say, pointing to him and then a random woman across the road, “and Nim…she’s fluid with it, you know? Labels don’t really matter to her. I like them. But…I can’t find the right ones. We do our names, and it works and it…I mean, it’s a statement and I love that, really. I just — I don’t know.”
“We’ll find it,” he says, not catching himself on the first word, “trust me, from what I’ve seen of Nimona, she’d burn it all down for you to find it.”
“We’ve taken up too much time,” you say, clearing your throat, gesturing for him to follow you, as you watch the man Nimona was – well, once distracting, but now chasing, went around the corner, “sorry.”
You don’t give him time to say anything back in return, you just take his hand and lead him out into the street once again, trying to find a getaway.
He recognises someone; the one with the punchable face? Maybe, you can’t quite remember. Either way, Ballister is terrified.
He hastily gets you into the vehicle with him, but you do see Nimona with a giddy smile as she shuts the boot.
Then, off you go, though Nimona does call out to you to get down.
With nothing but blind luck, you make it to an alley way. Ballister freaks out at Nimona being hurt, but she doesn’t show it hurts that much. You’re sure it does, but not as much as what is going on inside of her. You sit on the boot of the vehicle as they talk, though they do make their conversation loud enough to make you feel included.
You watch with soft eyes at the interaction, and how Nimona describes it all. When she jumps down when saying “I just wouldn’t be me,” she puts a hand on your leg too, “just like they wouldn’t be them.”
She then nudges you, “go on, bud,” she says softly, gesturing over to the bench, “go have your lil session. I’ll stay with this guy,” she says, jumping up on the boot, legs swinging.
Silently, you go over to Ballister. He looks at a cut on your arm. You aren’t entirely sure when you got it, but he does what he can to clean it.
“May I try ask again how you met?”
“Sure,” you say, looking to Nimona, she nods, encouraging smile in tow, “not the greatest of origin stories. I was always a street rat,” a crumbled up piece of paper hits your head, thrown by your best friend, “Was just always out on the streets. Never remembered anything from before. Guess either I was abandoned by parents dying, or they just left me.”
Ballister pauses, looking at you with sympathy. Nimona’s eyes are casted down to the floor. Like noted before, your lives weren’t easy, even if you had each other. The chaos was always fun, when you guys controlled it. Rebellion was something you both loved, but you were always focused more on survival than rebellion; even though you tried.
“I’m so sorry.”
You give him a sad smile, “I have my moments where…” you drift off. Nimona’s eyes shoot right up to your figure. She knows where your thoughts are going.
“Your parents were either unlucky, or bad people,” she says, “if it’s the latter, then they lost out on someone awesome.”
“Thanks, Nim.”
“No, she’s right,” Ballister says in support, “you’re a sweet, kid. You’re loyal, and kind.”
“But I don’t know who I am.”
“Well, if it helps, I thought I liked girls when I was around your age,” you chuckle softly at that after he does.
“I don’t think I want that from anyone,” you admit. Nimona smiles, glad you feel safe enough to say it. It’s your own small rebellion; she can’t be prouder of you, even muttering out a small ‘hell yeah’ under her breath.
“That’s cool,” Ballister says; you scrunch your eyes brows up slightly, not expecting him to say that, “we want what we want from life. And…if I may ask, about the other thing?”
“…I – I don’t…I don’t think ‘he’ or ‘she’ fit me. I mean,” you look to Nimona in self consciousness, “I know that’s swapping one label for another, but —”
“Labels can help us find a home in ourselves,” she says, wisely. Ballister looks to her, seeing her gaze soft as she continues, “sometimes they change. But, as long as it’s your choice on it changing, then it’s all cool with me.”
You nod, but Nimona catches the slight guilt in your eyes. She hops off the boot, approaching you as Ballister finishes his work on the cut – having only resumed it after your addition, “I always said I’ll tell ya as many times as you need. And I don’t mind, really,” she says, putting an arm on your good shoulder, “you’re my little buddy. My best friend. You’re Y/N, and who that is may shift and change, but you’re still you at the core of that.”
Emboldened by your friends and the feeling of safety to be honest, you look to the man in the boot, “shall we?”
The two look to the man, who then speaks. Saying he’s happy for you all, but now really just wants to be let go.
“Oh, yeah,” your best friend says, cracking her knuckles.
You get the video evidence that’s you need. This is it, your boss – and maybe even friend at this point – can be free. Sure, it pisses you both off at his want to still believe in this system – this system that is built to hate people like you – but you still go with him. Nimona says she’s in it because everyone hate’s Ballister too; and yes, that is part of your reasoning too – you guys aren’t alone anymore. But…if you’re honest with yourself, it’s mainly the latter part to that. To find your crew, you go by your labels and accept you fully.
The plan goes well, and you all escape together this time. Ballister holding you as you fly away.
“Why didn’t we think of this the first time?” You shout over the wind.
“We’re not very smart!” Nimona says with a chuckle.
“You have your moments, though?” Ballister asks, cheekily.
You both laugh this time, “seems so!” You say in sync.
Back at Ballister’s, the events of everything, including another brawl - this time you were more successful - though Ballister was almost taken in but you guys won, and feeling of safety, allows you to sleep soundly for once. Nimona runs a hand through your hair, head in her lap. Ballister puts a blanket over her.
“Don’t wake them, Boss,” is all Nimona says, quietly.
Ballister chuckles quietly, “I won’t, don’t worry,” he assures, before going to his computer.
Nimona soon falls asleep herself.
When Ballister meets with Ambrosius, nothing on your past comes up. Ambrosius is question on it, and says, “I’m sorry, Bal. I really am. I think that (he/she) —“
“They,” he interjects.
“Ok, sorry, yes,” Ambrosius says, correcting himself, “I think they may of met Nimona and been taken down a path. But,” he reaches out and takes Ballister’s hands in his own, “you can stop this. You can save them. We can.”
When Ballister comes back, Nimona seemingly has a sixth sense about this. She wakes up, happy, but slightly on edge when she sees the look on his face. Carefully, she removes herself from you.
“What are you?” Ballister seethes.
“We aren’t doing this here,” Nimona says, moving to the back of the couch, as if a shield.
“Answer me.”
“You aren’t dragging them into this,” she says, a fiery protectiveness in her gaze, “do you know how much they’ve been –“
“How much as done because of you?” That stings, she won’t lie, “you drag them around with you into your schemes. They’re an innocent pers-“
“Exactly,” Nimona says, keeping her voice quiet, but letting the anger still roll through her words, “so, if you wanna blame someone, which you oh so apparently do, then blame me, ok?”
“What’s going on?” You say, slurred as you still adjust to the world. You blink a few times, before slowly sit up on the sofa. You turn to your friends, and both have angry looks on their faces, “what’s wrong?”
“Gloreth,” Ballister says, “the darkness she was fighting to keep out? It was her,” he says, ripping the bandaid off instantly.
You look to Nimona, eyes wide, but not filled with fear, just shock.
“Y/N…” Nimona says, seemingly only seeing what she wants to.
“Nim,” you say, taking her hands in your own, “it doesn’t matter,” despite the reassurances, her mind is already made up. Those voices that she’s kept at bay for herself, and help you fight – and you have returned the favour in both small and large ways – are back in full force. You can see it on your friend…on your sister’s face. It pains you to no end.
“Get away from her, Y/N,” Ballister advices.
“No,” you say, firmly.
“Y/N, please…” you hate how her voice cracks a bit, looking at you.
“Hey, what was it you always said? We’re all we’ve got. You and me, yeah?”
“Don’t you understand what she is. She’s a —”
“No,” you spit, looking to Ballister, who is a bit taken aback, “it doesn’t matter. It matters who she really is. She’s Nimona. Just like I’m Y/N, and you’re Ballister. You’re the ex-knight. I’m the street rat, and Nimona is the reason this broken system was made in the first place.”
“It’s not broken,” Ballister says, running a hand through his hair.
“It always has been!” You shout, he jumps, “don’t you get that? Someone framed you for power. That power is used to make people like me hate themselves. It turns people against each other. It tears people apart, and you still support it!”
“Because it keeps us safe from monsters who want to destroy it!” He can’t stop the words as they tumble out. But, as soon as he sees you both flinch, he wants to take it back.
Nimona runs first, and as you go to follow, you pause at Ballister’s door, “you know, I really thought you’d be different,” the words strike him just like Ambrosius’ sword did. Then, you’re gone.
He slams his hand onto the table, swiping objects away. One gets his attention, that old arm he’d made. The spare. The useful spare. The one that got him through a lot before this better one.
Sure, he knew the metaphor didn’t completely work, but you were curious being. You just wanted to find safety, and Nimona just wanted to find that as well. You were both just looking for love in a world that hid it from you because of who you were.
He remembered when he first came out, how it was rocky. You were both young (sure, Nimona was old in terms of this story of her, but she was a young girl in physical form) and your lives had been several levels below rocky.
You and Nimona were all you had. He…god he realises, he was part of that too. For a moment, they let someone else in. Let someone else be a lifeline.
The words he’d said…he could see on Nimona’s face when she looked at you that something had changed in your dynamic as soon as he said it. She looked at you like she was a poison, and there was no antidote. He always remembered your words, about how at the beginning you would…oh, oh he knows what you mean now by what you wanted to do.
That pain because you couldn’t be free; you couldn’t completely be you. Oh no. Oh god.
He finds his sword. The thing that started him on this path. A path that led him to you both. Two spirited, loyal people.
He then feels the ground shake. He looks to the tv. He knows who that is. He knows who is on one last run.
“Good Gloreth,” he says, before running out of the door, just hoping that he isn’t too late. That he can make this right. As right as he can, anyway.
As for you, you try all you can to get Nimona’s attention, and she only flies away. God, you hate it; you’ve never really been out to this part of the walled off city before. You don’t know where she would go. You go to the town. There’s an abandoned building you went to one time when at a low. Nimona saved you that day, flying up to you and sitting with you. It must’ve been hours, but she managed to get you down and home. Sure, that location changed. But Nimona was a constant. She was family. She was home. She was security; always there for a pep talk or defence. You were always there with a plan or a way out. She’d always follow them, executing them to a T. You just worked.
You affirmed each other. Any doubts you’d talk about. You’d clean swap clothes, steal some if they didn’t fit or felt wrong. Tag areas with different names, but the same style so everyone knew it’s was you.
You feel a rumble as you reach the top of the building. A dark, shadowy creature, makes its way into town. Stomping over things, but not hitting anything. The only time it does is when it’s shot, screeching out in pain as it falls down.
You know who it is. You recognise a part of the scream.
It’s Nimona.
You look down the building, a hell of a drop. You see more of the flying vehicles going for her. Quickly, you do some calculations. You take a few steps back. Don’t get yourself wrong, you’re not in the healthiest of mindsets right now. If you miss, it’s a big drop, and then…well, whatever comes next. But, you have to try this. You have to try and protect your family as best you can. So, counting down quickly, you run.
You jump.
You land right on one of the vehicles. The guard is too shocked to really do anything. So, you push him with all your might, and he falls, but catches himself. You just focus on the controls of this thing. Not that many. It’s simple, but effective. It works.
So, despite some near crashes, you sort of get the hang of this thing. You use it to shoot at the attackers hurting Nimona. Some fire back at at you, others dodge and keep going at this person they decided needs to be put down for the benefit of the people.
You try your most, even get lucky, but there’s a lot of carnage going on; all their own doing.
You see, however, what Nimona is making a bee line for. The sharp end of a sword that was pointed at her so long ago.
You race forward, not even noticing your previous guard friend managing to climb back up. He wrestles with you for the controls. Once again sending you pretty much into things. However, he then pulls the breaks, but catches you before you fall. He’s not looking at you now, he’s looking at Nimona, who is stood in front of the sword, white, beating heart out.
“NO!” You cry, sending the vehicle forward once again. You get to the sword, jumping off it. The guard tries to stop you, but just misses.
“Stop —“ he calls. But, a new voice stops him.
“They’re with me!” Ballister, “they’re with me.”
He looks at you; so many apologies and silent words being sent at you at once.
You nod, “later,” you say, before running to save your sister. He follows. You both hold her back. She looks down at you.
Ballister apologises to her as well. She looks to you.
“Please don’t,” is all you can say, “I need my sister. I need my sister,” you say, repeating it as your tears finally leak.
She changes back, and you both catch her. She looks a mess, beaten to high hell, but alive.
“I love you too,” she says to you as the three of you hug. You pull back, looking at her with elation -she’d always shown it, never said it; but you did always, sort of selfishly, wanted to hear her say it – and she chuckles tiredly and brings you into a hug of just the two of you, “I need my sibling in my life too. Besides, you rebelled completely against them,” she says, having seen you on the roof and your stunt, “guess I could do something a bit different, yeah?”
You chuckle, tightening the hug. It feels right. Like pieces of a puzzle coming together. Ballister joins, and it mostly feels complete.
A hug of a family. Of people who love and accept each other.
People soon start running again, and you all see a giant cannon aimed directly at you all. You all look at the citizens, knowing it will hurt them as well.
“No –“ you say, looking to Nimona, knowing what she is planning.
She smiles, however; her mind is mind up.
She kisses you on the forehead, “I love you,” she mumbles, before giving Ballister a wink, “take care of them for me, Boss.”
“Nimona,” Ballister says, trying to stop her. To try find another way.
However, “we know I’m fast enough to stop that thing,” she says, “and we’re wasting too much time. I get to punch someone with a punchable face, like really hard,” she then looks back to you, and sees you about to break again, “hey,” she says, cupping your face in her hands, “I’ll always be here,” she puts her hand on your chest, “you’ve got this. You’re gonna build a new, better, world.”
With that, she turns into a phoenix, and flies right into the cannon. The explosion rocks the wall, creating a massive gap in it. What does it show? It shows that the outside world is beautiful, that they had anything to fear. There is danger there, but also beauty. So much beauty.
Ballister and you go down to try and find Nimona, instead you only find red specs flying around.
You curl up into a ball, letting out sobs.
Ambrosius comforts Ballister, but saw how you were with the guardsman above. Granted in glimpses, but given your friendship with Nimona, your distrust of this system that he too is now questioning is understandable. So, he lets Ballister take his time before bringing you into a hug as you both cry for your fallen friend.
Some time passes, and you are all called heroes. You move in with Ballister, and your friendship rebuilds. He becomes this role model to you of perseverance and light. Softness and love. He becomes a sort of parental figure. He supports you when you stumble, and you do the same for him.
Ambrosius respects your boundries. He’s a nice person, even if you have your many issues with the system. He listens, like actually listens to them, and does what he can to set them right. He knows it will take time, but he knows you’ll appreciate the effort.
It’s slow going with him, but he is sweet. He’s kind. So, you are warming up to him. And he’s getting to know you. And, you do have to admit, him and Bal are sweet.
One day, when you’re in home alone, Bal and Ambrosius out on a date, you hear something. It’s like the wind, but that’s not possible as it’s a peaceful day. You then turn, seeing a glare of light. It gets brighter and brighter —
And then it stops. You lower your hand, and drop your bowl of popcorn. It doesn’t break, but the effect is there.
“Hey, champ,” you hear her say.
And you barrel right into Nimona’s awaiting arms. She chuckles, spinning you around before putting you back on the ground, “oh, look at you!” She says, turning your head with her hands, noting the subtle changes to your style and your looks, “you look so good!”
You chuckle, before going in for another hug. She hugs you back just as tightly.
She shuts her eyes, hoping to hold this moment in her mind forever; just as you are as well.
She pulls back, then looks to the TV, “what you watching, squirt?” She asks. You grab her hand, and pull her to it, hopping over it, which she mirrors on the other side, before now sharing the blanket with her and handing her the bowl and filling it up with more popcorn.
You hit play, and both watch the TV.
Bal comes back, and does a double take when he sees you both. It’s like a mirror version of the last time he saw you asleep on her lap, hand going through your hair again.
“Oh, hey, Boss,” she says, “just figured I’d pop in, say ‘hi’ and all that.”
Ballister can only laugh, tears of happiness forming in his eyes.
“Hi,” he says, holding his arms open.
“Hey,” she says, hugging him.
The family is complete.
Y/N and Nimona the siblings; and Balister and Ambrosius the parental/older siblings. The label isn’t exactly exact, but sometimes labels aren’t. They fluctuate.
But the love, just as the person, is still there. Still them. Still have all that love and hope inside of them.
Some people like labels, some don’t.
Either way, you all fit together. You all know what you are.
Family. And a family who aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Around the end of 'Nimona', I was internally screaming like "NO NO NO WHY THE FUCK DID THEY KILL HER SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE IMMORTAL C'MON SHE CAN'T JUST DIE" and then they just randomly showed her at the end and I was like "HOLY SH-" and Ballister was like "HOLY SH-" too. Like yeah I guess everyone was like that.
I just finished watching the film and I can't get over how lovely it is~

I got bored again so you get Nimona headcanons
I’m fully convinced that Bal is denser than a neutron star
He’s liked Ambrosius ever since he met him and when he was a teenager he was fully convinced those feelings were unrequited
All the while Ambrosius was asking him out like every other week and making plans for their damn wedding
Poor babe had to be kissed on the fucking mouth for him to even consider that Ambrosius liked him back
When he finally caught on he woke up half the institute with his realization because he literally screamed
He got really excited and asked Ambrosius “So you love me yeah?”
Ambrosius was out here looking for hidden cameras because no way in Hell can this man be that clueless
He let Bal believe that it was a new development because he didn’t have the heart to tell Bal that he was just slow on the uptake
He accidentally let it slip to Nimona and she never let him live it down
The boys absolutely made breakup playlists during the movie
Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift were their best friends during that time
When the dust had settled and they forgave each other and themselves they played the playlists and laughed about how stupid they were (and they both pretended not to notice the tears in their eyes)
I’m fully convinced that the trio has the dumbest sense of humor (which is my sense of humor)
Bal has a bad habit of taking his arm off and leaving it in the most random places
Whenever someone asks where his arm is he’ll say “Which one?” Or “I don’t know love where is my arm?”
At first it caught Ambrosius off guard but now he just chuckles and says “Fine be like but don't ask me for help when you can't find it later”
Bal will normally scoff and tell him he won't (they both pretend the conversation never happened when Bal asks him to help him look for it)
One time they were watching a firework show and Nimona turned to them and said “Remind you of anything?”
The boys just sat there not knowing if they wanted to laugh or cry so they took turns doing both
They kept making that joke and Ambrosius threatened to call them firecracker if they kept it up
All they could say was “You act like that isn’t a sick ass nickname”
Whenever the smallest inconvenience happens Ambrosius always says “I wish the director stabbed me that day”
Like this man could misplace his keys and look down at the ground and say “Do me a favor come back and kill me for real please”
The first time he said that Bal spit out his coffee and all Ambrosius could say was “You’re not helping this situation hun”
Honestly, I have no clue how old Ambrosius and Bal are but if I had to guess I would say 20-26
And because they’re both really young and Nimona hasn’t matured past 14 I feel like they would have a very complex relationship with her
They have very paternal instincts when it comes to her but they also act like older brothers
They’ll threaten to ground her if she sets another piece of bubble gum on fire (which she laughs at) but they also aren't afraid to mess around and roughhouse with her
Sometimes Nimona and Ambrosius will be messing around and jokingly picking on each other and the next thing Nimona knows he’s being picked up like he weighs nothing and tossed on the couch
Whenever Nimona annoys the Hell out of Bal while he’s working Bal will just pick him up and place him outside of the lab
And there have been plenty of times when Ambrosius isn't scared to tackle his little ass to the floor
Oh she’ll make sure they regret it because she could easily snap them both in half like a twig but sometimes it’s just fun to play fight (Ambrosius calls them her zoomies)
They’ll bicker over who actually cleans up around the house and whose turn it is to wash the dishes
But they’re also able to have these incredibly deep conversations that go late into the night
They’ll get into very intense fights and then five minutes later Ambrosius will walk into Nimona’s room and leave a tray of cut fruit without saying anything
Whenever the boys are working from home Nimona will hang out with them
She jokes that she’s “blessing them with her presence” and most of the time they let it slide because she doesn’t really do anything
She’ll bring snacks drinks games and a phone charger but she doesn’t talk a lot she just hunkers down and waits for them to be done with work
Whenever the boys ask why she does this she’ll shrug her shoulder but the truth is she finds their company incredibly comforting

Have you watched the Nimona movie? Nimona is a good movie, but people need to stop overestimating this movie and the characters in it.
I just watched it now! And yeah, I think some of the stuff is very on-the-nose and that's been a pet peeve throughout watching the movie (like, the way a lot of the antagonists are treated in particular), but to be honest... Personally I really liked it too, I think it was very solid.
Part of it is probably because I'm watching it with a pretty key timing here. My country (France) has been in turmoil lately because of some bullshit "protecting of order vs chaotic monsters" rhetoric that's caused a lot of hurt, and is causing even more hurt to this day by reframing narratives and finger-pointing where fingers shouldn't be pointed, instead of focusing on basic compassion, and so many citizens here raising their voices online about it seem to be completely buying that reframed narrative and just... Yeah, man, I don't know. It's been filling me with disgust, so I guess a movie that had a message that went "Hey, maybe don't go surprised pikachu face after someone you call a monster over and over snaps because they've been treated like shit one time too many" was a bit therapeutic to me, in return.

Nimona appreciation post (Part 3 of idk even know how many)
Tumblr media
Hi guys, I'm back with Part 3. Sorry about the delay, I tend to procrastinate even if something has to do with my newest hyperfixation lol (Pic for attention, like always lol)
at the beginning he says to Amb that he's not brooding and now he tells Nimona that "Knights don't mope, they brood."
"Murder him, murdder her, murder everyone!" aaand there is Amb standing int the door and Bals pose XD
Amb lil smile when he sees Bal. He probably thought that he killed Bal and seems glas that he's not
Also him just looking at Bals arm
Nimonas lil "Gesundheit" is way better in the english version ngl
Nemesis 😈
"Oh, look! It's Gloreth!" and the knights behind them actually look in the direction she pointed at
Amb acting like he was about to draw his sword and looking like they just caught him doing something forbidden like I don't even know
Bals almost defeated face at the beginning of the closet scene
Nimona just casually ripping that pipe out of the wall
Bals hamster cheeks when she grabs his face
that die-in-the-closet-dialogue felt very strange to me but I still don't completely understand how people can hate people who have a different orientation than them (sexual or not, I don't know how to say that exactly but I hope you kinda understand me?). There shouldn't be a problem about dying in a closet in real life and I really understand why people are so close-minded and this is still happening, I guess. Why does this "kids movie" motivate me to think about this kind of issue so much? But I guess it's a good thing, I'm probably/definitely not the only one who watched Nimona and really started to think about this (and the other themes of this movie)
also Nimona literally coming out of the closet (as a shape-shifter) is like really nice, I love little things like that in movies that you maybe not even register at first
I like to think that the axe opening the door is a little "Shining" reference
Nimona casually catching the arrow before her face
Bal being the competent idiot that he is grabbing the first thing his hand finds to use as a weapon without even looking
"Even if you see the horn?"
"I will not freak… Uhhh" with that face XD
I just looove her line "This is the part where you run.", how she looks at the knights and how they start to panic
Bals face while getting out of the closet is like: What the everloving hell did just happen/is just happening?
"Yeah" "Oh no! Stay away! Get back! No! This is not happening!" XD
Amb just being bamboozled and proving that he's at least a bit of a Nerd (who other then a Nerd or a Zoologist would call a Rhino by it's full name)
"Leave that guy alone!" "Take that" bonks him away with her horn lol, they are such a good duo
Stairs are either your best friend (Nimona seemingly) or your worst enemy (Kungfu Panda)
Bal just being completely like a fish out of water by what is happening during that chase is also kinda hilarious
Also him still having the brain to tell her she needs to go right in all of this mayhem is very competent of him, I stan him just a bit ngl
the whale
hey def needed a meeting table that round, they are a kingdom of knights
loving that Todd gets the tiny d*** joke, one of the best jokes in the movie and this movie has a lot of good ones
THE MUSIC <3
Now he wants the staircase, Bal really should make up his mind XD
I'm a bit sad that the original BlueSky-Scene where she changes into a dragon didn't make it in there but this is also fine, I guess
How did Bal survive that fall?
also loving how he just slides the last few metres face down lol
Nimona looking at Bal before she says her "Something, something, something, we win." was kinda cute
Explosions! "Metal" Also: stuff like this reminds me of a kind of old scetch from a comedian (I know the guy from some youtube vids of different poetry slams but he is a comedian now) I like pertaining bear catapults (I def will get myself some tickets if he ever does a show near me, the guy is hilarious)
Bal looking kinda chill (he prob has a concussion and isn't quite there, I guess) at the different things that fly towards them and then focusing on that little bit of debris that knocks him out (and the sound he makes when he gets hit) lol
Sooo, that was it for part 3. Short I know, but I think I will try to get these posts out and ngl my attention span is a bit short at the moment… with this kind of post thats more on the short site I believe I can stay on the topic and not procrastinate that much. Maybe there will also be some longer ones inbetween, we will see. Have a good one guys ^^

“I wanna cut my hair.” This was all Nimona said as she hoisted herself onto the kitchen counter. Ballister looked up from the breakfast he was preparing— well, it was more of a lunch at this point.
“That was sudden.” Ballister set down his spatula and turned off the stove— he was always cautious. “What do you mean cut it? Just a trim, or…”
“I want it short.” Ballister nodded, trying to envision it in his head. She hadn’t cut her hair beyond trimming off dead ends in years , and it had grown nearly to her knees. He didn’t blame her for wanting to cut it.
“Okay, okay, we can do that.” He turned the stove back on. “Let’s just eat first, okay? Don’t wanna be cutting any hair when we’re too hungry to do a good job.” Nimona’s leg bounced impatiently.
“Okay,” she pushed herself off the counter, sliding herself into a seat. Ballister set down a plate in front of her as well as one next to her. He pushed a sizzling pancake off of the pan and onto her cake. It was weirdly shaped. Nimona squinted at it.
“Is it… a bird?” This game was practically routine for them. Even if Ballister’s pancake art had improved slightly over the years, he had yet to make something that her or Ambrosius could guess. He shook his head, smiling.
“Try again.” Nimona squinted harder, pretending to analyze the pancake intensely. She bit her lip.
“Um… a shark? No wait- you told me your last one was a shark.” She leaned back in her chair. “That’s it, I give up… just tell me.” Ballister let out a sigh of defeat.
“It was supposed to be a dragon.” Nimona looked back at the deformed pancake and burst out laughing. Ballister looked embarrassed.
“ THAT’S a dragon? Dude, you suck at this!” Nimona cackled, almost bringing herself to tears. Ballister waited for her to regain her breath.
“You done?” He rolled his eyes good-naturedly. “I thought you wanted to cut your hair.” Nimona’s eyes brightened at the reminder, and she attacked the vaguely dragon-shaped pancake with a new vigor. “Chop chop… no pun intended.” Ballister looked quite pleased with himself for that one.
Nimona finished her meal within the minute, slamming her hands down on the table a bit too hard. Ballister winced at the noise.
“Sorry! I’m just… really ready.” Nimona grabbed her dad’s hand and practically dragged him to the bathroom. She had already laid out everything they needed— she was really excited for this apparently. Nimona stood directly in front of the mirror, beaming. Ballister positioned himself behind her, easily able to see himself over her head. He held a lock of her long red hair in his hand, letting the cogs turn in his brain. He turned forward again, making eye contact with his kid in the mirror.
“So, do you want it around… here?” He curled up her hair with his hand, giving it the illusion of shoulder-length hair. Nimona shook her head.
“Wait, I got this.” She picked up the clippers (stolen from her dads, no doubt), and before Ballister could stop her, she took it to her scalp. Her dad yanked the clippers from her, switching them off and looking at his kid in horror. She was turned with her back to the mirror, trying to see over her shoulder.
“What the hell was that?!” Ballister shouted. “You just took a huge chunk out of the back of your hair!” Nimona didn’t seem concerned.
“How short is it?” She was still struggling to see. Ballister sighed and picked up a small mirror. He held it in front of her so that she could see the back of her head. “Oh. That’s like…. really short.”
“ Yeah!? ” Ballister looked upset. He didn’t look mad , moreso concerned. “And now what?”
“Uh… I gotta idea!” She flashed her signature toothy grin. Ballister looked even more worried. Very few of Nimona’s ideas were good ones. He watched in horror as she continued to shave off her hair, stopping just under the crown. When she went to pick up the scissors, her dad grabbed them from her.
“I do not trust you with this part at all.” Nimona rolled her eyes. “Just tell me what you want me to do.”
Nimona attempted to explain her vision, using big hand gestures to get her point across. Ballister did his best to follow along with what she was saying, envisioning the haircut in his head. It definitely wasn’t something he’d ever even think of doing to his own hair, but if it was what his kid wanted…
Ballister picked up the scissors and took his first snip of her hair. Nimona tried her very best to keep her head straight as her dad worked, bringing her vision to life. As he worked, she would make comments about things she wanted him to change. He kept going until she was a hundred percent satisfied… or eighty-five percent satisfied, but it was an at-home haircut and her dad had done his very best.
“Annnddd… done,” Ballister said as he set down the scissors. He stepped back to take a final look. It was definitely a unique haircut, but Nimona wore it well. She was beaming at her reflection, her happiness filling Ballister with so much warmth. She spun around to face him, throwing herself at him with so much force that he nearly fell over. She squeezed him tightly as he patted her back.
“Thank you so much,” she said into his chest. He smiled. “I know it’s a weird haircut, and it wasn’t really my plan, but it’s so much more… me.” She pulled away from the hug just enough to look at her dad. His big dark eyes stared back at her with so much love. “Are you about to cry? Dork,” she teased, ignoring the fact that her eyes were also watering.
“I’m not crying!” he protested, crossing his arms and fake-pouting. “I’m just… really glad you like it. I want the Nimona on the outside to match with the one on the inside. I love every part of you that makes you… you.”
“That’s so cheesy,” she said, the tears finally spilling out. She hugged him again to hide them. He shook his head knowingly, staring at the reflection of himself and his kid.
~
“I’m home!” Ambrosius called as he walked in the door. Ballister peered around the corner, smiling at his husband. As Ballister rounded the corner to greet him, Nimona cut him off, socks sliding on the floor as she dashed to her dad. She basically tackled Ambrosius. He stumbled back. “Woah woah, no need to miss me that mu— what happened to your hair?”
Ballister reached his family, placing a hand on Nimona’s shoulder.
“ Someone wanted an impromptu haircut and someone has a secret talent for cutting hair,” Ballister explained proudly.
“He’s way better at it than he is at pancakes,” Nimona chimed in, pulling away from the hug to look at her dads with a smirk. Ballister feigned offense as Ambrosius laughed. The blond ruffled his kid’s (now much shorter) hair, smiling down at her.
“It looks good on you,” he said earnestly. Nimona grinned up at her dads.
“I know,” she proclaimed.

well i guess it's appropriate that i'd be forced onto tumblr to talk about this lol!! watched the nimona movie with jordan (one of our original bonding points!!) and really enjoyed it
my only disappointments:
goldenloin's luxurious hair... where did u go
why did they call him ballister boldheart and NOT have that be setup for calling him ballister blackheart as a villain that wouldve worked perfectly
blitzmeyer!! i get why she didnt fit but i missed her. bal couldve had a mad scientist gal pal....
i also miss nimona's fake backstory where she was turned into a dragon by a witch. "wait then why can you turn into other things" "the spell was slippery. she wasn't a very good witch"
her "evil dragon" form was cooler in the comic
but!! there were also a lot of changes i really enjoyed
nimona's FANGIES!! overall she was such an expressive little goblin it was great
ballister was also way hotter which i appreciated, the mustache adds a lot
lot of great new jokes. off the top of my head the demon child thing was great, "chopping off arms is not a love language!!", fake goldenloin death throes, and much more
i was a little turned off by the director not being Pointy at first but i kind of like that they made her look like a white pixar mom it fits with the narrative better. also she had a great villain speech
nimona's TRAGIC BABY YURI FLASHBACK!!!!!! CAnnot emphasize this enough
also making nimona's trans/nb allegoriness feel more front and center
great stuff with the ballister/ambrosius romance too i really liked how they developed it, loved little bits like ambrosius arguing that ballister should choose him over nimona
ANYWAY great movie great adaptation, loved the art style, the movement, the humor, the feelings.... i think i mightve liked to see a little more about what was Beyond The Wall (and also how nimona got over it but i mean it wouldnt necessarily be hard for her she can turn into a bird. which just goes to show how unnecessary the wall was in the first place) but yeah very happy with it

how are you going - hoping its slightly better than its been recently - random question but ive been trying to find some movies or tv shows to watch that are not the same 7 that ive seen like 50 million times - could you mayybe give me some media recs?? idk you seem like you have taste??
sorry to bother you though :)
Hey,
I'm overwhelmed rn but I'll sort it out soon and thank you - how are you?
Yeah okay, sure and thank you though I'm not so sure about how true that is, and you don't need to apologise for bothering me, you really aren't :)
(also I'm not quite sure what you're into but I'll try and make it as varied as I can - though most of them will probably be depressing in some way, so a little heads up for that I guess)
For TV shows:
FLEABAG!! - I honestly love this show so much though content warnings for some nudity, swearing, sex (not extremely explicit but still)
YOUNG ROYALS - I will never get over this, it's honestly amazing
I am not okay with this - a great short show to binge and then be pissed off with Netflix for cancelling it
Normal People (same content warnings as fleabag tbh)
The Queen's Gambit - (content warnings for drugs, death, and there are probably a few more but I haven't watched the show in a while sorry)
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - it's so much better than the film
The Sandman - (content warnings for some nudity, violence)
Umbrella Academy
Shadow and bone - the books are better but still
As for the films:
Nimona
Nightmare Before Christmas
Corpse Bride
Princess Monoke
The Half of It
Bottoms
Aftersun
Spiderman Into the Spiderverse
Spiderman Across the Spiderverse
Submarine
I hope that helps @justquietcorners and I would love to hear if you have any recs too

So, I heard someone call Nimona a "cringe, not like the other girls uwu movie."
All I gotta say is....
There's no way you actually watched it.
Because that movie had a lot of silly, goofy moments, but it was also very relatable and heart-wrenching to LGBTQ+ folks like myself.
It's one of those times when I'm angry it's trendy because now, the meanest tiktok girls and transphobes are going to find it and tear apart anyone who saw the allegory. (See: Barbie, Wednesday, every other trending piece of media that had a message beyond its social media presentation in the past year) Yet, at the same time, I want it to become even more popular so as many people as possible see the obvious symbolism and how moving this movie was.
(So, trigger warning for a suicide mention I guess? And spoilers, too?Like, it's heavily implied that's what Nimona was doing in her panic)
The part at the end of the movie? Where Nimona had their breakdown and charged at the city as a monster, intending to end her own life on the statue's sword, because she was in so much pain? And the only thing that made them stop was Ballister telling her she was seen and loved?
I sobbed.
Because I never had that person. I've been in this battle, against society, against my body, all alone.
And seeing that moment? That made me feel like I was so much stronger for making it out alive. Because I've always been the only one seeing myself as I really am.
And yeah, I get it, it's trendy, it's funny, it's not that deep. But it was to me. And I don't mean to be a gatekeeping weirdo, but as a trans, fem-presenting, traumatized, punk teen who feels less than human, this movie was basically made for me, because that's the protagonist's whole thing.
Like... if we're going to boil Nimona down into some "uwu I'm quirkier than you" character, I guess we have to turn the others into bland caricatures, too. Which we already did. Ballister already got the pathetic blorbo treatment, which I'm fine with, because turning any character into the pathetic blorbo of the week is always funny, but now people who only know the movie and comic from 30 second edits will think that's all there is to him, and ignore the part where he kept a trans character from taking her own life.
I know, I'm overreacting, and this is the most invested I've gotten in a piece of media since the Dark Ages of my life where I liked Gravity Falls and disliked its fandom stereotype.
This whole post was probably a bad idea, I know I'm not supposed to get invested in things I didn't create, but it was just on my mind.

9 people you would like to know better
thank you for the tag, @kokonutcat :)
3 ships: the gays....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First ship: This one was really hard for me lmao. I guess I'll go with the first I read fic for/interracted with the fandom of?
Tumblr media
Yeah, I know.
Last song I listened to: I have a bunch of Shayfer James songs playing rn; they're extremely good and perfect for obito.
Last movie I watched: Honestly I don't have the attention span to watch things much, but Nimona kept me hooked. Thanks @emotionallyunstablelumberjack for making me watch it :)
Tumblr media
Last series: Oh man it's been months. I need to watch stuff, evidently...
Tumblr media
Currently reading: Getting through books takes me a long time nowadays, with the little time I have for it. These are the two I most often pick up :)
Tumblr media
^absolutely excellent book. If you're a nerd, you'll probably enjoy it.
Tumblr media
^ yeah, this one started good... don't read it, unless you want to analyze not contemporary anarchism, but the academic biases on the topic of anarchism, and issues surrounding it... definitely not a good source for anarchism, including things like using Meinhof and the Red Army Faction as an example of anarchist extremists when they were communist extremists... like... there are plenty of examples of actual anarchist extremists to choose from...
Last consumed: cereal
Currently craving: laying down on the mossy forest floor after a good long rain and letting my bones be sewn into the earth, leaving me to fade away and be forgotten until centuries later, when I awaken in the post-industrial age, when nature has come back and consumed everything, leaving the world with patches of small civilizations amongst the overgrown rubble, in a quiet, peaceful apocalypse.

RED RISING BOOK 1 CHARACTER TIER LIST + FULL THOUGHTS! >:D
Below is my review of book 1, I'll go into spoilers. After this, I'm either gonna move onto a different book or try to find golden son. Not sure which one will happen.
But yeah, great book, 4 stars, or 8/10! Definitely just set up for things to come in the trilogy, but also a really good setup & story.
PREFACE: This is from the perspective from somebody who DOESN'T read books for fun too often. Red Rising was the first book in a long while I chose to read for fun since Harry Potter in 1st year high school (I didn't even finish the series, I stopped at the start of Half Blood Prince). So you're dealing with one of the most casual guys who went into the series. Another thing: I came into the series thinking it would be similar to Nimona (2023) or Sylas's story from League, since I brought up these two things when I first asked for book recs, so my expectations were HORRIBLY wrong (kind of, sylas's lore is pretty similar and the only difference is that sylas gets STRAIGHT into action but also his characterization sucks). So my perspective is strange, is what I'm saying, and I am far from the most valid person to be seriously reviewing this book. I'm just sharing this for fun lmao :P
I'm just writing the first few things that come to my mind, so stick with me people! These are messy, unfiltered thoughts.
This book is rough, really whumpy at the start of the book, but it's good whump. It's just setting up and establishing what's to come and to make all the payoffs feel better by showing us the insane suffering Darrow goes through. But also? Damn. That was rough. it felt like grimdark (this is coming from the perspective of a guy who actively avoids all things grimdark - with the exception of whump fanfics on ao3).
And then we get into the institution, and I just went, "oh. This is hunger games harry potter." I was a bit disappointed to be honest, I know the book is called "red rising" and it literally means "the slow rise of a red" so he still needs to prepare himself for what's to come, but also... eh?????? Someone in Reddit called this segment "pierce brown kidnapping fans of the hunger games when it was at the peak of its popularity", which ✨️iconic behavior✨️ but I was a bit confused as we took this academy stuff seriously. But slowly, I grew into it when the characters started interacting. I liked it when Darrow was interacting with others since the first half of the book felt so isolating. I liked every single scene Sevro shows up since he brings so much chaos and fun to a story that had so much downtrodden underlying sadness. The chapter 9 reveal is still hitting me, like "damn FUCK THESE GUYS BRO, WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS PLANET HAS ALREADY BEEN TERRAFORMED???" Also because sevro's fucking awesome, but that's besides the point. The same goes for Darrow's scenes with Virginia and pre-sword fight Cassius, but they aren't as iconic as Sevro.
Darrow is a super compelling protagonist for the story he's in. Making him this power fantasy fulfillment guy makes things feel all the more liberating when he beats the shit out of a guy, it's sort of like a shonen anime protagonist, I guess (i don't watch anime btw). Bro talks about Eo a bit too much though 💀 it got to the point where it got a bit funny, but some moments do hit... before virginia came into the picture as the better love interest since she's girlboss and eo is seraphine from league of legends.
Most of the characters are well written or awesome! The proctors are real loveably hateable pieces of shit I wanted 200 feet below the dirt, and I loved seeing them get beat up. Except you Fitchner, you are iconic, and you gave us Sevro. I love you. Antonia, Cassius & Jackal are just set up here, and it's mildly disappointing? I am super happy the finale ended up being "FUCK THE PROCTORS" but also that stole time away from finishing off the inter-student conflicts. Yeah those will 100% be explored in the rest of the books with more time to do so, but damn :/ the last time we see Antonia, I think she just stands there at a castle to remind us she exists??? Whatever, watching the proctors get shit on was exactly what I needed to want to see more out of this series.
I was a bit disappointed when Darrow ended up being the only red we explore in this book. I was kind of disappointed when Darrow just speaks with a gold accent the entire time, I hope later in the series he speaks like a red again because I have a red bias and hate fancy ass shit. From a book called "red rising", there aren't too many reds after part 2 which I found odd for a revolution story about a red taking control over the system. Titus? Ohoh! FUCK HIM! why did they write him to be this rapist guy, and he just exists to let darrow know he isn't the only fake gold at the institute. I was mildly hoping we would get to see another red-turned-gold team up with darrow as a 100% trustworthy ally since I felt like we needed it after all the loneliness Darrow goes through, but sadly no :(
OH AND THE ACTION SCENES HELL YEAH!!! Reddit wasn't kidding when they talked about how bloodydamn GOOD the fight scenes are. I got spoiled that "Clang! Clang! Clang! Confess!" means something, and I don't even know who is fighting who, but I want to read the whole series just to get to that point because it sounds badass.
But uhhh this series came to me at a rough point in my life. It was hard to read some parts of it and I took a few breaks. Yeah, I read the whole thing in 2 weeks, but also just to fill myself with some sort of closure when I felt sad. I felt good coming out of it, but during? UHHHHHH-
Tumblr media
These disorganized thoughts are getting messy, if you have any questions about specific things, comment them for me to answer. I might. 🥰
Story: 7/10, just set up but good set up
Characters: 9/10, bloodydamn good, almost all of them. I can tell, despite my initial disappointment for some of them since I know this is a book SERIES, so we will be seeing more of them soon.
Personal Enjoyment: ????/10, felt too sad at some points, absolutely adored this book in others.
Quality: 9/10, amazing writing, I want to buy all the books JUST to support Pierce Brown, I'm not even sure if I will be reading them, I just feel like throwing money at him.
Overall Score: 8/10, scared to continue, but damn I want to continue.

Spoilers for Nimona movie (and comic)
I finally got around to watching Nimona (forgive me for taking two weeks, it’s exam season in Italy) and when I tell you I broke down crying when I saw the Nimona “memorial wall”. The contrast with the ending of the comic, where Ballister is the only one who doesn’t see Nimona as a monster, while in the movie everyone sees her as a hero and there is an entire wall with “We love Nimona” plastered on it just, got to me.
And, since some drawings were actually made in the style of the comic, to me it also felt like those were messages from all the people who read Nimona through the years who were thanking “her” for making them feel less alone. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, idk, I’m really emotional rn.
Rather than filling the hashtags with my thoughts I guess I’ll just write a mini review:
They did many changes from the original comic, indeed, but it’s fine. In the end they’re two different things and they’re both GREAT. This movie is the proof that adaptations can be different because, if they’re well made, we can get not one but two masterpieces. The humor wasn’t always my thing, but it’s fine: it’s a matter of taste after all. Ballister and Ambrosius are different from their comic counterparts, but I loved them nonetheless. And, of course, my fave shapeshifter was everything I could wish for and more (yes, this is partly a joke on the fact Nimona’s a shapeshifter).
What really surprised me is that they managed to cover many things, even with depth, and the movie never felt rushed, which is something I can’t say for most movies I saw lately. And yeah, the trans/queer metaphor was really more blatant in this one, but I found it masterfully done, and maybe it should, for once, be blatant.
I also want to spend two words on the animation because, tbh, in the trailers I didn’t like it at all: things and characters felt a bit made of rubber. But I actually loved it watching the movie??? Idk why, maybe on a big screen (rather than my phone, where I watched the trailers) you can actually see the details, lol (and overall it was really fluid and well made). The 2d animations sequences were also beautiful. Of course, it’s no Spiderverse, but I’m pretty sure the budget for these two movies is vastly different.
Also, love how in the credits we can see that the monopoly (who, for those who might not know, is THE game about how capitalism sucks) rip off is called “World Domination”. I love a good ol’ capitalism critic.
Anyway, thanks to ND Stevenson, Annapurna and all the people who worked on this masterpiece (and I guess Netflix too gets some thanks). Hoping this movie is the first of many of its genre.
Edit: forgot to mention my actually only qualm, which is about the italian version of the movie, where they translated Goldenloin's name roughly as "Goldenlimbs" or "Goldenedges". Cowards
