kim dahyun - a regular, run-of-the-mill, average college student that just so happens to come from a long line of human caretakers that manage the sanctuary, a haven for supernatural creatures.
yoo jeongyeon (kokabiel) - a fallen angel, and a member of the grigori, a group of angels that willingly chose to fall from grace in order to watch over, protect, and teach humans how to live.
hirai momo (lupa) - a wandering she-wolf that lost her home, traveling from civilization to civilization, trying to find a pack to call her own.
minatozaki sana (carmilla) - a lonely vampire that distances herself from humans in order to protect them, subjecting herself to painful solitude in order to keep the people she loves safe.
myoui mina (?) - a ghost that has no recollection of her past or her true name, desperate for a love that will make her feel alive again.
chou tzuyu (barachiel) - a seraphim, a guardian angel, tasked with protecting heroic and special souls that are destined for great things.

playlists !
dahyun - that one vibe dahyun is the definition of going with the flow. think standing in the subway, waiting for the train, nodding off as music drowns out the sounds of the railway. her song is "good company" by sos !
jeongyeon - calm winds she’s a very calm individual, and she’s always likely to go with the flow and really just feel things along ! the song that speaks about her the most is “the sun is in your eyes” by jacob collier !
momo - take a break she’s also calm like jeongyeon, but her kind of calm is more secluded and isolated, really, like putting on your headphones in a café and ignoring the rest of the world. her song is “that i miss you” by vansire !
sana - relaxed night sana’s kind of calm is more somber and lonely, unfortunately because of her past, and it’s the kind of lonely that’s very yearning and longing. her song is “sex & sadness” by madi sipes & the painted blue !
mina - end of june mina is a quiet individual, and not because she wants to be, unfortunately, her vibe is very yearning that's almost accepted loneliness, but still craves companionship. her song is "i saw you in a dream" by the japanese house !
tzuyu - weary eyes tzuyu can come off as a little heavy handed, but deep down she's very soft and loving, and ultimately just wants the people she loves to be happy. her song is "pancakes for dinner" by lizzy mcalpine !
nayeon - return home nayeon, as a devil, is pretty angsty obviously, and can shut herself away from the world a lot of the time. she's very closed off and doesn't like opening up to other people, and her vibe is very noisy, to shut out the world. her song is "real love song" by nothing but thieves !
chaeyoung - coming of age chaeyoung is chill incarnate, and really just likes vibing. think standing out of the sun roof on a road trip and letting the wind hit your body. very coming of age vibes. her song is "heavy, california" by jungle !
jihyo - faerie circles jihyo's vibe is a lot quieter, more contemplative, like you're in the forest just walking and you see something magical happen, and you keep it to yourself for the rest of your life. her song is "in a week" by hozier and karen cowley !

The cutest (no longer secret): Spies on a mission pt 1
Tumblr media
Omg back on my kep1 shit??
Warning: Tickling
11pm at OTR dance studio:
Bahiyyih and Chaehyun were the only ones at the dance studio late on a rainy night. They finished private dance lessons for their new comeback, We fresh. It's definitely been a long time since the chronicles of the ticklish 10th member y/n. With the members being busy with back-to-back new music, new MVs, and separate schedules the last time you've been tickled has been...since Queendom started. GASP! But what's the reason for the sudden decline? It's going to be revealed soon (or now). The two members were getting ready to go home, seeing that it was close to midnight and they were extremely tired from a long day. While cleaning up they found a journal that belonged to your manager. You had a separate manager from Kep1er since that was the manager who fought long and hard to make sure you'll be in the group. Chaehyun thought the planner only had boring calendar schedules so she went thru it. Scrambling thru a random page she found something important. Chaehyun was seeing a paragraph full of y/n and advised Bahiyyih to look at the revealed information with her.
Chaehyun: Hyyih, look at this.
Both looking at it together they read it carefully. Today's meeting discussed how the CEO dislikes the relationship of tickling between the members and y/n. The company promises to fill the group up with work and no free time to make sure no tickling happens. The two looked at each other, realizing they found the missing puzzle piece of why you've been so cold about wanting to be tickled. But it's difficult to what their next step is. They started We Fresh which means their schedules will be jammed packed, with no available time to make their last-minute tickle schemes. But they weren't giving up because they never give up on trying to make you happy.
Bahiyyih: Take a picture and send it to Yujin then delete the picture. Yujin has her own phone, so they wouldn't know we took the picture.
Chaehyun: You're right. Good idea.
Chaehyun takes a picture before she and Bahiyyih exit, leaving the notebook on the ground to avoid suspicion. They thought the members would be asleep since it was the AM, but they were alerted by the sudden news. But at home, they all gathered in the living room, half asleep but whispering as you were sleeping in the next room.
Yujin: How long have you guys been noticing that y/n hasn't been getting tickled?
Hikaru: I tickled her...and that's it...has it really been that long?
Dayeon: But it makes sense. One day me and Chaehyun wanted to tickle her, but our manager told us to do a vlive so we rescheduled for tomorrow, but we had a meeting and after that, we forgot...
The girls were stunned by the realization that they haven't tickled her since that summer, and that the CEO forced her to not mention tickling. To them, tickling you was a form of bonding. Since the day they laid their eyes on you and knew you were ticklish it's been a tool for connecting. Knowing that their CEO is taking away how they spend time with you is stupid. Plus fans love your tickling moments. The number of times you got popular from kep1 Twitter for your tickle encounters with Dayeon. They were now trying to find a way to get their 10th member into the tickling zone. But it's been difficult, as the manager has been strict with them when it came to free time. They waited til the afternoon, seeing how their schedules for We Fresh were going to be so they stick in a few tickle times in there. But their luck was at a halt, every day was something new and long, barely anytime to have fun themselves.
Yeseo: Wait, in one of our schedules on Saturday we're doing a photoshoot but we're not doing anything on that Sunday. We can ask our manager to see if we can stay at a hotel if we like.
Dayeon: That would be good...but the last time I tickled y/n we were roughhousing and we got banned from the hotel.
So their second alternative was to rent a separate house, then lie to the CEO is used for content for their YouTube channel. It could be used for video content, if fans enjoyed nothing but torturing you for 30 minutes (which they may like we don't know). However the setback was still there, and the CEO wouldn't approve of this. But there was a member of the group that was good at persuading others with her good talking skills and cute dimples.
Yujin: Shiro you're doing it!
Mashiro: Me? Okay then.
Persuading the manager is one thing, but then making sure you'll fall into their tickle trap is another. Your lack of tickles has made it impossible for the members to trick you. You've even got passed Dayeon's tricks by tickling her, yep it's gotten to that point. While thinking the two big lers started smiling. Chaehyun and Dayeon, are the two girls that never give up even if you've started to be a ler all of a sudden. But the two started smiling and giggling as if they had their own inside joke. But they did have a plan that might work. Con; well 5 girls have to be tickled for it to work. That's when the girls are ready to fight because none of them wants to do it (besides Hikaru who loves to be tickled). Every night one of the girls gets tickled so you can hear their laughter, and miss the fun times. If Chaehyun knew anything it was you get easily jealous when a member gets tickled instead of you. The plan did work, and it only took Hikaru and Yeseo to be tickled (and Youngeun was happy she didn't get tickled).
One day you were really sad, too sad that it was quite hard to keep a happy face. And it affected you and was eating you up inside of the secret you kept from the members. Late at night, you went to Yujin's room while she was doing yoga before bed. You kept choking on your words to where nothing but tears came out of you.
Y/n: Sorry...I'm so sorry...
Yujin: Sorry about what? Baby, we're not mad for spilling that juice.
Y/n: It's not that! Manager nim told me I can't be tickled by you guys anymore and that's why I've been so cold to you guys!
Of course, Yujin had to play it off that she didn't know anymore by mentioning the spilled juice. She held you and comforted you while crying. She was finally relieved that she didn't have to ignore the situation, now since it was out of the open. She said everything. It started with a few hate comments about the vlive between you and Xiaoting, where she tickled you. You were never bothered by a few hate comments, but your manager thought it wasn't good to base off your whole personality off of being kep1er's Lee. Even though lots of fans adored the cute little tickle moments you were a highly good dancer and you're singing skills were painfully underrated. You made some of the chores for Sugar Rush and did the lyrics to Downtown. Insanely talented yet the company is in denial. But all you wished was to be tickled and loved on by your favorite friends in the whole wide world, which is being arranged right now.
Yujin: Well...you can be the cameraman for tomorrow since we need content for backstage on the music bank.
Y/n: But it'll be difficult to be tickled when I'm on camera.
Yujin: Not when you zoom in on your face the whole time so no one can know.
Y/n: You're right! Yay, thank you, leader!!
Now was the beginning of a beautiful resolution. Surprisingly, the manager approved of you being the cameraman for the day. You were excited, too excited, and hyper but that's what a few days of sadness can bring.
Y/n: Hi~ welcome to y/n cam! Where I introduce you to the lives of kep1er I am your host y/n! Let's get started! Guess our first guest. Drumroll, please...It's Yeseo!!
Yeseo: Hi!
They were happy that you were so energetic, that type of energy was helping them not become too nervous during performing. You were interviewing Yeseo, asking the difference between We Fresh and the last comeback, Up. It was a professional interview, no tickles were intervening. It's until you asked Yeseo who shined the most in this comeback, and the answer wasn't you. You gave her the side eye but she poked your belly button. Luckily no reaction came because your endurance went up. After the interview had to end with one last question asked by you as the MC.
Y/n: Anything you want to say to our audience?
Yeseo: Please support our comeback!
You turned off the camera. Immediately Yeseo tickled you, poking you while you were trying not to fall off your seat. You forget they haven't tickled you in months, so yea they'll go a bit crazy now since they can tickle you. Once you tried to get off your seat she grabbed you towards her lap and trapped you with one of her arms while tickling your side with the other. Your legs kick up and down in laughter while trying to catch Yeseo's side with your free arm. You were enjoying it because after you were not being tickled for so long you missed the heart-to-heart moments that came with tickling. After tickling you she kissed your cheek. You were surprised by Yeseo's impeccable strength. This could be one of Dayeon's tactics or the fact that the girls have been working out.
Y/n: Can you please tickle me again?
Yeseo: Later, but for right now you need to be focused on filming.
The next member you needed to bother was Hyyih. She was sleeping on the couch, the blanket warming up her body. You were recording her sleeping beauty face from afar but did wake up to see you recording her up close. You went to share a blanket with her while interviewing her. She was lightly tickling your tummy and back while you were forced to keep all your giggles in. You had to hand the camera to Bahiyyih to release some quiet giggles before continuing on to the interview. She talked about her makeup and some self-promo of We Fresh once again.
Y/n: Since Halloween is coming, who is dressing up as?
Bahiyyih: Me and Hikaru are doing Mario and Luigi.
Y/n: Ohh good choice. I like it.
You kept talking about how Halloween would be and who you'll be dressed as but you said it'll be kept a secret. She got mad as none of the members liked secrets, which is why birthday surprises are always fun and full of revenge tickles. After the interview, Bahiyyih took a selfie with you using the cheek charge. She took that little moment to pinch your little tummy which caused you to have the happiest smile Bahiyyih has ever seen. The last time you’d ever smiled this hard was the first time Dayeon has ever tickled you. While the girls get ready with their stage makeup and outfits you went to the hallways to demonstrate your outfits. The theme was black and white punk: wearing a uniform outfit with a skirt and shirt cropped. Then you had Doc Martians with a fake lip piercing. Then Youngeun came, letting you take a bite of her sandwich that was cut in half. But you teased her by taking a big bite, too big that all there was left was the crust.
Youngeun: Hey! Why did you do that?! I swear-
Y/n: You can eat my sandwich, I have an extra one.
She got mad as she chased you around the hallway. Before any tickling happened you turned off the camera and then went back to running. She eventually caught you and tickled you in a corner where no one would defend you. Soon after they needed to go on stage so you did the last recording of Xiaoting for extra support on stage. The girls have gotten extremely good at hidden tickles. Walking in a line to the stage you had your armpits tickled by Mashiro. They were starting to like how you can't laugh since they have to keep it a secret no matter what. After a fun stage of We Fresh where you and Hikaru shared an ending fairy you went backstage with the members.
Y/n: We're done! It was so much fun. Lots of fans complimented me and how good I was. Now we're waiting to go home.
The manager was going to be late so the members could squeeze in some tickle time. Xiaoting was keeping guard in the hallway before she can close the door and potentially lock it. With the last stylist gone, you and all the members were wearing regular clothes. As soon as the coast was clear the door was locked and the tickle fest started. Xiaoting ran to you and tickled your neck and gave you a big hug. Then Dayeon wanted you on her lap so you can be tickled by her and Dayeon. The biggest downside to hidden tickles was not hearing you laugh. And since the room has very thick walls they thought of spending ten to fifteen minutes tickling you until you lose laughter.
Y/n: AHHHHHHHH
Hikaru: I'm barely touching you baby. But now I am-
Y/n: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Both Dayeon and Hikaru tickle your tummy. You laugh, followed by a few snorts because Hikaru was tickling your ribs. The tickling was caught on Yujin's phone since it was a cute moment everyone was loving. They gave you a break halfway to start tickling your feet while Xiaoting was holding you. It was pure hell, especially because Dayeon had long nails that day. The 15 minute tickling ends with Dayeon giving you a kiss on the cheek, which leads to a neck raspberry. Missing how Dayeon would finish tickling you with a raspberry either on your neck or tummy. The members went home, going with their regular tickling schedules. How before you go to bed you get tickled by Dayeon and Chaehyun.
Y/n: NONONOAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHHA
Chaehyun: I don't remember the back of your knees being this ticklish.
You slept in Mashiro's bed that night. You didn't really want to be alone like the other nights. That ended a long era of you not being tickled and being distant. Although the tickling was starting to happen, the photoshoot plan was still in place. Life can never go back to normal until the girls have a mischievous plan to tickle you as a group.

Fallin’ all in you - JJH (part 1)
PROLOGUE - The second the door burst open, my eyes landed on him. The memories played smoothly like a song I’ve played many times before even after 8 years of trying to break that record, here we are sitting face to face like we used to back on that very rooftop. Only, now his eyes are void of emotions. Unlike the warmth of comfort we once shared, we’re strangers again.
Pairing/Characters - Jaehyun x Dayeon (oc fem reader), Jaemin x Si-eun (oc fem reader)
Genre/Category - angst, romance, enemies to lovers, enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers, exes to lover, rekindled romance, ceo!jaehyun, ceo!jaemin, mentions of mingyu, highschool to working
Content Warning - strong language, slightly implied 🔞 but nothing much, mentions of heartbreak
Status - on-going
Masterlist
FLASHBACK
As I began to pack my remaining clothes away, for every item I placed into this box. It gradually unawakened memories from my very childhood one by one. Some were delighted, while some, not so much. Taping all these boxes, locking all those memories. A new chapter awaits me. Taking a one-way route starting destination; Busan, final destination; Seoul. Seoul, what a big beautiful city, but only welcomes certain kinds of people. I definitely do not fit into one of those fortunate categories. So you see, my mother owns a small little seafood restaurant down by the shores where she serves fresh seafood at an affordable price. My father is a proud taxi driver with a love for our hometown and the knowledge of every single route you can possibly take here in Busan. But moving to Seoul erases all that knowledge of those routes my father learned here in Busan. Whereas I, a 17 year old girl who likes to wear baggy shirts and play in the mud, searching for clams after a rainy day. I’m not that uncultured, I know Seoul wouldn’t exactly welcome our kind of family with open arms. It’ll be hard to adjust but for a better education and a better future ahead of my siblings and I, our parents made a huge sacrifice for us to achieve it.
After hours of endless roads, we’re here. Pushing through the small door to a comfortable small space we now call home, with our individual luggage we settled into our separate rooms. By separate rooms, I meant, my parents room and the other small room I had to share with my two adorable little siblings. We’re not the richest of people but you can say, we’re quite comfortable with what we have. We were taught to appreciate what we earned so this rooming arrangement doesn’t bother me as much as you thought it would.
After spending our whole weekend unpacking and purchasing a few more necessities like stocking up our fridge, now comes Monday. Marks the start of my new beginning. As my hands grip tighter to the straps of my bag I slowly set foot into my new homeroom. I can feel stares practically piercing through my back, upon my shoulders now lies a big target as I’m considered the “new” girl on campus.
“Good morning class, welcome to the start of your senior year. I’m glad to see many familiar faces and also more than grateful to see some new faces. To those who are new here, my name is Mr. Moon Taeil, you can me Mr. Moon.”
“ NO! Your name is Master Moon.” the blonde-haired dude said quietly. I shift my eyes to the black-haired boy sitting next to Mr blonde-hair boy who seemed to be distracted by the window.
Laughter abrupts the class, “Jaemin, be quiet.” said Mr. Moon.
“New students please come to the front and introduce yourself to your classmates.”
Walking up to the front, I can still feel eyes on me. I stood behind a fellow new student, waiting for my turn to go. Once he had finished his introduction, it was my turn.
“Hello everyone, my name is Kim Dayeon and I just moved here a few days ago from Busan. I hope we can all get along and please take care of me.”

no clue where this came from but enjoy some pointless dayeon flirting
...
Nayeon couldn’t believe it. She glared down the snowy hill at the people tackling the sport with ease, trying to ignore her own shivering.
She couldn’t believe her stupid boss thought a stupid ‘teambuilding trip’ to a stupid ski lodge was a good idea, but more than that, she couldn’t believe she was stupid enough to agree.
It was Jeongyeon’s fault, really. ’It’ll be nice to get to know your coworkers’, her roommate had said. ‘Really nice opportunity to kiss your boss’s ass. Aren’t you working towards that promotion?’
Nayeon hated that she was right. So she’d packed her warmest clothes, borrowed Jihyo’s all-wheel-drive-capable car, and drove an hour to a little ski resort outside the city.
Just to get stuck on the top of the bunny hill.
She wasn’t afraid, per se, but she didn’t really see a reason to hurl herself down a mountain on two questionably thin scraps of plastic while trying to maintain her balance and not break her ankles. Kissing up to her boss didn’t seem worth broken ankles.
She didn’t even notice the girl in the bright red jacket next to her until she spoke.
“What are we looking at?”
Nayeon yelped in surprise, spinning around to see her attacker – who was laughing, damn them – and flailed her arms as her skis started sliding. The girl simply popped her boot-clad foot out of her ski and stomped it down on the front of Nayeon’s, stabilizing her. Nayeon glared at the lodge’s logo on her jacket.
“Not really great customer service, pushing your guests down a mountain.”
“I didn’t touch you.” The girl’s smile still spread nearly ear-to-ear, cheeks and nose bright pink from the cold. “And it’s the bunny hill.” Nayeon oddly found it endearing the way her eyes scrunched up to crescents when she laughed– while she laughed at her, she corrected. She shook off the thought.
“You scared me.” She looked back down the mountain. “And it’s pretty steep for a bunny hill, don’t you think? Someone could get hurt.”
The girl just frowned and glanced to the side. Nayeon followed her gaze to a five-year-old skiing backwards, with her hands up, yelling for her mother to watch.
“Right.” The girl took off her hat, letting blonde hair spill over her shoulders. She held it out to Nayeon. “Well, you should take this. You clearly aren’t used to the cold and, uh, something tells me you’re going to be covered in a bit more snow than me today.”
Nayeon cocked an eyebrow, but she couldn’t deny that she was already freezing from a fall she’d taken into a snow bank on the way up. She took it.
“Thank you.” She said, shortly.
“I’m Dahyun.”
“Hi, Dahyun.”
“I work here.”
“I figured.”
“I’m here to help.”
Nayeon raised her eyebrows again. Was it really that obvious she had no clue what she was doing? She sighed, watching another child speed by and put her skiing skills to shame. Yeah, okay. Great. She needed help from this gorgeous, arrogant stranger with kind eyes.
“I just need to get down there.” She pointed at the lodge. “And then I’ll sit at the bar in the lobby until the rest of my coworkers are done. And I’ll be a good little worker and excuse myself home.”
“Aw, don’t be like that. It’s a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.”
Nayeon just glared.
“Or we could just get you to the bottom of this hill. So you can sit at the bar in the lobby until the rest of your coworkers are done.”
“Thank you.”
Dahyun just smiled and held out her hand, the same eye-smile from before gracing on her features. Nayeon caught herself lost in it for a second before she blinked, and put a gloved hand in the girl’s.
“Okay. We’ll go slow.” She said. “Face the tips of your skis in. Like a triangle. We call it pizza shape. Pizza means stop, French fries means go.” She demonstrated with her own skis.
“You’re teaching me like I’m a five-year-old.”
“No, most of the five-year-olds I teach are a little better than this.”
Nayeon glared. Dahyun laughed. She flipped around to face Nayeon, back to the hill, and held out her other hand.
“What’s your name?”
“Im Nayeon. And I’m really, really bad at this. I know.”
“Im Nayeon,” Dahyun repeated, and smiled. Nayeon hated how nice it sounded in her voice. “If you’re going to get down this hill, you’ll have to trust me. You’re not that bad.”
Nayeon sighed and held her other hand.
“You’re going down backwards?”
“Yes I am. And you’re going forwards. Ready?”
“Maybe. No.”
That was apparently good enough for Dahyun. She pushed them off, still backwards and holding Nayeon’s hands, and Nayeon shrieked in surprise as they crept forward slowly.
It wasn’t bad. She kept the skis relatively pizza-shaped so they’d go slow. Dahyun held tight to her hands, righting her whenever she started to wobble or get off course.
“You’re doing great!” Dahyun beamed. Nayeon looked up and met her eyes and for the first time since getting to this stupid retreat, she felt herself smile, too.
And then her ski hit Dahyun’s boot, somehow. The shorter girl’s ski popped off, throwing her off balance and sending Nayeon stumbling over her. They both crashed down hard; Dahyun into the snow and Nayeon directly on top of the smaller girl as they slid down the hill and stopped a few feet later.
“Ohmygod, I’m so sorry!” Nayeon rushed to get off of her, but Dahyun was… laughing.  Hysterically. Nayeon felt herself join in too, she couldn’t help it. Dahyun rolled to face her, still laying in the snow, ears and nose bright pink.
“That wasn’t so bad, was it?”
She rolled her eyes. “I don’t ever need to ski again.”
“Well, lucky for you, we slid to the bottom.” She giggled, looking around. “So you don’t have to.”
“Thank god.” She hit the button to disconnect her boots.
“But you do have to follow my hot chocolate policy.”
“Excuse me?”
“If you fall while I’m teaching, I buy a hot chocolate. That’s my rule.” She smiled. “I mean, I’m normally teaching kids, so they’re a little happier about it. But I can adjust. It can be a wine policy for Im Nayeon.”
“A wine policy might cheer me up.”
Dahyun smiled, standing up and brushing herself off. She held out a hand and helped Nayeon up, too.
“Good. I’m off work at four.”
“I’ll be waiting, then.” Nayeon smiled. “For the wine, of course.”
Dahyun smiled back.

November Rain (JungkookXOC)
Tumblr media
Angst/Romance/Dystopian JungkookxOC story with some JiminxOC. Extended on several parts, total ~37k words. You can read Part 1.1  / Part 1.2 / Part 1.3 / Part 2.1 / Part 2.2
Part 3.1
Nature of things, cold as ice, please have mercy.
When Jungkook saw another man on the screen, he never thought his heart would ever ache more. He never thought there was a feeling worse than having your dreams crushed by something more powerful than you. He never thought It could do such a thing to him, who had so patiently waited to have what he had silently asked for.
But when time ticked, when the rain poured and drenched his clothes, when he waited, hidden under the shadows near the border, when he never saw her coming to him, he knew.
He knew that there was something worse than having your dreams crushed by a more powerful being.
Having your dreams crushed by the one who was supposed to make then come true.
But then again, wasn’t he not surprised? How foolish was it, to think Dayeon would put everything aside to run away with him? To think she would let go of everything just for him, and him only.
Jungkook hated the rain in November.
It was cold, piercing through his clothes, wetting his skin to his core. Maybe he should have brought a coat, at least. Or some spare clothes.
Or maybe a toothbrush?
Jungkook couldn’t help but scoff out loud. Was he supposed to simply go back home, now that he knew there was nothing to do but accept whatever was planned for him? He didn’t want this. He didn’t want anything to do with that girl they showed on the screen for him. He didn’t want anything of the dream job, dream house, dream life. He never wanted any of it.
All he asked for, the only, one, tiny little thing he wanted, was Dayeon.
He wouldn’t be able to witness her going around hands in hands with her so called match. He wouldn’t bare seeing her smiling to and looking at anyone else the way she used to with him.
Was it that easy for her to let go of him? To go on and blindly follow a calculation? An algorithm?
It seemed like it.
Without a single look backward, Jungkook turned on his heels, eyeing the darkness in front of him. There was a path that led to the unknown, to his chosen future, and he would follow it even if it meant losing everything else. If he had lost Dayeon for good, then he had lost everything that attached him to this Society.
He cared for his parents for a certain extend, but there were so many things he knew about them that made his adoration for them more… pointless.
Not every match was perfect. Not every life was, either. If only Dayeon knew… then maybe, hopefully, she would have thought otherwise.
His first steps through the night were slow, filled with thoughts of the one he would need to forget. The more his feet moved, the more he wished to go back and see her again.
If only she knew… how much he wanted her with him. How much she deserved more than a traced destiny. How much she deserved to choose.
It was useless, though, because his steps became faster and faster. Then he started running. Nothing was stopping him, he was free. He continued like this until his lungs begged for air and his legs to stop. He didn’t want to turn around, but was curious to see what the city looked like from this far.
But then he just continued running.
He did for a while until stopping again when the rain did as well. He had never run this much before and it felt completely ecstatic. When he looked up at the sky, the clouds were gone and billion of stars stared back at him. He could almost imagine them smiling at him, encouraging him to pursue, to go even further. It’s like they screamed his name in oblivion.
“Jungkook! Jungkook! Jungkook!”
He smiled, his strength renewed and he sprinted again. He continued looking up, arms flailing to the sky, waving at the stars.
And then he screamed.
He screamed like he never did before. Not because he didn’t want to, but because he wasn’t allowed to. He yelled to his freedom, to the choice he had made.
Then his scream transformed into a cry. A cry for the loss of the ones he cared about.
Exhaustion hit him again and he stopped, body bending in half to try and catch his breath. When he looked up he froze, eyes attracted by the faint yellow lights near the horizon.
The Other Cities.
They were real, they really did exist. He was nearing one. He felt excitement burst in his veins, he wanted to run again, but his legs hurt to much, his heart was beating too fast.
He walked slowly, keeping his glaze on the lighted horizon, almost scared it was going to disappear if he looked in another direction. They were getting bigger as he continued his way, he was oh so close to his well-deserved liberty.
His legs trembled and he collapsed on the soaked mud. His muscles ached too much he could barely move at all. He tried crawling with his hands, fingers digging in the dirt, but in vain. He was stopped, once again, so close to his desire.
Jungkook turned to lay on his back, staring up at the stars that seemed to share his melancholy. They weren’t screaming his name anymore, nor smiling. The sky was starting to change color, probably announcing the sun’s arrival.
His chest was heaving up and down at a rapid pace, his heart trying to compensate from the large amount of energy he had just spent. He had no idea what time it was and for how long he ran, but it was simply futile now.
With everything that was left in his lungs, he parted his lips again to scream. It sounded different from his first scream, which irradiated strength and determination. This one came deep from his broken heart.
His vision clouded, as if the stars were being turned off one by one, he was tired and desperately needed sleep. When he closed his eyes, he felt like he was laying in the most comfortable bed of all.
And, right before blackness enveloped him, there was a faint yelling in the distance.
***
15 months later
So many things changed after the Matching Ceremony.
It wasn’t very long after that all the newly matched were announced their job, the one they would have chosen, the one that fitted them perfectly. We would receive at our house a letter in which the big news was announced. Jimin was almost jumping in happiness when he told me would be teaching dance to the school I studied at.
On my part, I was incredibly grateful they gave me a job at the Health Counseling office. I never had anything in mind for my future while studying, but my excellent grades paid off as it was a rather important work throughout the whole Society.
After that, there were only two months left before we would move to our future home, which went by quickly. I barely had time to breath twice before I was packing the truck that would bring me to my new home. My mother tried hard not to let any tears fall but she wasn’t able to, and so didn’t I.
Diving into our new adult life was a challenge we overcame with the help of each other. Jimin was an easy-going, fresh and energic person and I was surprised how well we lived together. We’d never spent more than two days in a row together, which was the two following days of the Matching Ceremony. Except from that, there were a couple of days from here and there. Though the more I spent time with him, the more I grew attached to him.
It didn’t prevent Jungkook from creeping in my mind from time to time, though. I concluded that he would just never leave my thoughts and I started accepting it that way. Sometimes I would walk around the busy streets and imagine him somewhere in the crowd. Every time I hoped I wouldn’t feel this tingle in my stomach while thinking he had finally come back, but I still felt it, even one year later….
…And even almost two years later. It had become an habit, but the more I grew used to it, the less I was able to hide my frowns every time his face would pop in my head. Which meant, it had become harder to hide these thoughts from Jimin.
“You didn’t seem happy at all today, Dayeon. Did something wrong happen?”
Jimin’s soft whispered brought me away from my daydreaming and I opened my eyes to look at him. The bedroom was pitch black but my eyes were accustomed to the darkness and it was easy to spot him beside me, staring with a frown.
I had, indeed, have a bad day. Since Jungkook was gone, the first day of September was a day I’d rather not know it existed. I just wanted it to pass as quickly as possible, so I wouldn’t constantly think of my best friend.
“It’s… It was Jungkook’s birthday, today.” I whispered back to him and closed my eyes again.
There wasn’t one’s birthday we wouldn’t spend with one another. Even though we did spend almost every day together, Jungkook and I had a special tradition of ours whenever it was one’s birthday.
It was my fifth or sixth birthday. For the event, my parents would invite their two friends and their son to celebrate. After a nice meal and a birthday cake, while the parents would go in the living room to talk, Jungkook and I would go in my bedroom to play.
“Dayeon-ah! Wait here, there’s something I want to show you!”
Jungkook, with a childish smile on his face, ran from my bedroom and went downstairs while I waited for him, sitting on my bed. He was back a couple of seconds later with his school bag in his arms and I frowned.
“What are you going to show to me? Your homework? It’s my birthday, I don’t want to help you with your maths!” I mumbled, crossing my arms over my chest but my best friend simply giggled and sat beside me, holding his bag close to his chest, as if something precious was inside.
“Of course, it’s not homework, we’ll do them tomorrow since today is your birthday.” The boy said and slowly unzipped his bag. I leaned to try and sneak in but he brought it closer to him and pouted. “Close your eyes and put your hands on your lap.” He said and I nodded slowly, watching him for another second before doing what I was told.
I heard him unzip his bag some more before he took something out of it. I felt something like a piece cardboard on my lap and I frowned a bit. “Don’t open just yet!” He warned me, placing the thing correctly so it wouldn’t fall. A few seconds passed while everything stayed quiet.
“Okay, you can check now…” Jungkook’s voice was more quiet than it was earlier. When I finally opened my eyes, I looked down at the cardboard on my lap and gasped. I immediately smiled and sat more comfortably, elevating the object to my eyes level and staring at it.
On the piece of cardboard were glued so many pastas of different kinds. There were bow ones all around for decorations and longer ones that formed words. Words that made me feel weird in my stomach for the first time.
I ♥ Dayeon
From Kookie
When I finally looked back to him, my best friend was smiling nervously, playing with his fingers. “I hope you like it. I had to steal these dry pasta from school so I could make it for you. Happy birthday, Dayeon.”
I kept it hidden under my bed for years so my parents wouldn’t discover it and ask me questions about it. After that event, for each of our birthday, we tried to find something to do, something original for the other that no one would ever receive on their birthdays. Every year, this special gift stayed a secret between the two of us. It was our way of making the other feel special.
I felt Jimin’s hand caress my arm and I gasped, startled as I was harshly brought back to reality and away from the memory. When I turned to Jimin, I saw the pain in his eyes as he looked at me and I couldn’t help but feel guilty.
“I… I’m sorry, Jimin, I just can’t stop thinking about him, he’s been in my life for so long and-“
“It’s okay, Dayeon, it’s okay.” He whispered, attempting a smile, but there were still visible traces of sadness in his eyes.
I shifted on the mattress and got closer to him. He took me in his arms and I rested my head on his shoulder. His nose ruffled my hair as we hugged tightly. “I understand, Dayeon, it must be so hard for you. But sometimes in our life, we reach a point where it’s better to let go, and I’m here to help you go through this.” Jimin added before pressing a kiss on my forehead. “I’ll always be here by your side, because I love you.”
I held him a bit tighter and hid my face in the crook of his neck. “I love you too, Jimin, thank you.” I whispered and bit on my bottom lip. I did love him, I knew I did. I would have been worse if it wasn’t for him, who thoughtlessly caught me every time I’d risk falling. He was there to prop me back up on my feet and his gorgeous smile would convince me to go on and fight.
But it wasn’t just enough.
I would love Jimin from all my might, I knew I’d still feel like there was something missing.
We held like this for a little while, his hand moving up and down my back in a soothing motion while his lips would deposit a few kisses on my scalp. I was going to fall asleep in his embrace when I started hearing his breathing more distinctly, as if it was hard for him to inhale.
I opened my eyes and moved back a bit to look at him. He seemed asleep since he didn’t react to me moving away and I frowned a bit. “Jimin?” I called, nudging his shoulder. When I did, the sound of his breathing stopped. It wasn’t because he didn’t have difficulty anymore, but he just wasn’t breathing at all.
Startled, I sat up quickly and nudged him harder. “Jimin! Wake up!” I called louder until his eyes opened wide and he sat up, taking in a deep breath as he hadn’t for too long. When he tried to exhale, it transformed into coughing and he reached to grab tissues. His coughs didn’t seem normal, and when I looked at the tissues on his mouth, red patches were appearing on the white fabric.
“You’re bleeding!” I called to him and when his throat was finally freed he threw the tissues away and wiped his mouth before looking at my shocked face. He smiled to me reassuringly and shook his head.
“I’m okay.” He said, but I wasn’t convinced at all. He laid back down and it was my turn to shake my head.
“You just coughed blood, Jimin, you’re not okay. Is it the first time?” I asked him and he simply motioned me to lay back down beside him, which I did, but I wasn’t planning to stop the questions.
“It’s not.” He admitted, “But I don’t think it’s really important. I must have hurt my throat from screaming through the music during the dance classes.” He said and smiled at me. I wasn’t an ounce more convinced.
“You should go get checked. Do it quickly, you understand?” I told him and he simply chuckled before kissing my nose.
“Yes, doctor, I understand.” Jimin whispered, pulling me closer again. “I’ve been busy, but I’ll go when I have free time. It’s probably nothing to worry about anyways, it happens sometimes and I’m still top shape.”
I wanted to believe him, so I just did for the moment. It’s not like Society hadn’t already eradicated every sickness from the area. Things such as cancers or mortal diseases were long gone from the population, so we had nothing to worry about. Things we would catch from time to time were never really important -it was my job to treat these, but with a pill or two, they always disappeared.
In our Society, every one had the right to a long, meaningful, and peaceful life.

About food. Food has been an event, a challenge and tasty. For the most part I have only eaten in Korean restaurants that have no english language when I am with Koreans and they can order for me. I have also had meals at three temples which are vegan because the monks don’t eat anything animal and these meals have been sometimes simple but always interesting environments. Besides eating street food I have enjoyed cooking in my apartment. It is a very exciting process. I go to the huge supermarket and taste everything the food ladies are offering as samples of their products. You can almost have a whole meal doing this and it seems to be an activity for the Koreans as well. Then I buy what tasted good and go home and throw it all into a pot with interesting looking vegetables. For awhile my kimchi wad had been my main seasoning but then I discovered other fermented foods which unfortunately I have no idea what they are.
Today was my day off and I went to Gwangjang Market which is a vast long indoor market of food stalls where you sit in-front of the food being prepared and get fed. By the time I was hungry the crowds were almost too tight to maneuver so I ventured into the fabric section of the market where there are endless bolts of every kind of fabric stacked high and in among those walls of fabric were ladies preparing the same foods as in the main market but it was quiet and they were really nice and gave me extra yellow pickle with a huge batch of mayak gimbap ( beautiful rice rolls). That was followed by batter fried shrimp on a stick which is fun to eat while you are getting pushed by waves of people and the occasional motorcycle.
After the market I went a ways out to find what is called the antiques market street in Dapsimni-dong. There was a variety of ceramics, furniture and statuary in a dim packed warren.  There were plates that I recognized from Chinatown in NYC as well as a lovely celadon vase for $1,500. I bought nothing I mostly focused on not knocking anything over.
Dayeon, the college student who I meet with occasionally and who had a hand in my scheduling clearly felt that I had not taken advantage of the shopping options she had put into my schedule so yesterday after we ate she took me shopping. We bought me the latest trending lipstick and some face masks that will take care of the wrinkles and impart calmness. We cruised the vast selection of personal humidifiers in the shape of dolphins, got some stickers and tried out the pens.
Today in the afternoon I got tired of being on public transportation and went for a long walk in my neighborhood. It was great to walk aimlessly up and down hills. I took photos of garlic and motorcycles. While I was walking I was thinking that it is time to leave Seoul and return to the mayhem of the United States and about the contrasts between the two countries.
