Refusal to Change, Part One

H4nk deals with the consequences of his new lifestyle. Or doesn’t.

(To anyone first dropping in, this is the beginning of the end. Please please PLEASE start with No Escape so you know what’s going on.)

He was having the best time since forever. H4nk was laying on a soft marshmallow, letting himself be fed the largest, most delicious desserts. Each one was given to him by the clown, who praised him after every treat devoured. He was so full and absolutely ginormous, but he didn't care. It all felt amazing.

"H444NK... WANT ANOTHER CAKE? IT'S YUMMY..."

Another whole cake was fed to him, H4nk savoring every bite. Once he was done, Tr1cky began rubbing his tummy.

"OH, H4NKY... YOU'RE SO ROUND... SO SOFT..."

H4nk belched. Tr1cky giggled, leaning in close.

"...THE CUTEST THING EVER..."

They shared a long, deep kiss. Tr1cky tasted like chocolate. It was making H4nk hungry again. Once they pulled away, his stomach rumbled again.

“STILL HUNGRY, H4NKY? YOU WANT A COOKIE?”

Damn it, why did Tr1cky have to be so cute? H4nk agreed to the cookie. But right when he finished it, he suddenly hugged his feeder. Tr1cky sunk into H4nk’s softness, nuzzling him and giggling.

“HEHEHEHE… SOFTIE…”

That was it. H4nk was starving. His mouth was wide open, soon to devour his cute little clown. He shoved him in, and……

“H4NK! H4NK, WAKE UP NOW!”

It was D0c’s voice. H4nk’s eyes opened to see D0c staring down at him, with S4nf0rd and D31m0s sitting behind him. Even through his mask, he could tell that D0c was unhappy. Also, was he just tired, or did he look… different?

“…What is it?” H4nk asked sleepily.

“I see you’ve still been gorging yourself, huh? How’s that going?”

H4nk slowly sat up. “It’s been fine. Nothing to worry about.”

“Uh huh. How about we do a weigh-in, just to check?”

“Sure.”

H4nk slowly got up off the couch, D0c leading him towards the scale in the bathroom. He helped him remove his gear, stripping him down to his pants, then H4nk stepped on the scale. Of course, he still couldn’t see past his gut.

“What’s it say?”

Nothing could have prepared him for what D0c said next.

“‘Weight Limit Exceeded’. As I thought.”

H4nk stepped off the scale. He looked down at himself. Then in the mirror. He saw all his flab that he had gained in just a few weeks. How thick his neck was, how big his chest was, how low his belly hung. How wide his hips had gotten to the point that even his new sweatpants were tight on him. Any muscle previously on him was no longer visible. Now, he was beyond just fat. He was obese. And looking at himself right then and there, a new feeling brewed inside him.

H4nk was disgusted by what he saw.

“Care to explain how you became like this? What exactly did you think was going to happen?”

H4nk was silent.

“Come on. Answer me.”

H4nk hung his head. “…I just… I dunno…”

“H4nk, listen to me. I don’t know what’s going through your head right now, but I need an answer. Because look at this!”

H4nk turned to see D0c holding up one of his wanted posters. He grabbed it in order to read it.

Wanted… alive? The Agency, who had spent years trying to kill him, now wanted him alive? What for?

“H4nk. Tell me what you’ve been doing this instant.”

H4nk was silent once again. He kept avoiding eye contact.

“Look at me and tell me! NOW.”

“…I’ve… I’ve been hanging out…”

“Hanging out?”

“…with the clown.”

“Why?”

“…We… uh… hit it off?”

A gasp was heard.

“I knew it,” D31m0s whispered.

D0c turned to see S4nf0rd and D31m0s in the doorway, eavesdropping.

“Boys, this doesn’t concern you two.”

“Hey, we wanted to know, too! H4nk never tells us anything!”

D0c turned back to H4nk.

“How did you ‘hit it off’?”

“…He… He fed me. And snuggled with me and said I was cute and… I gave in. Then he said he loved me and… I guess… I love him too.”

There was more silence. D0c sighed.

“Oh, H4nk, how do I put this… Listen, I don’t care if you’re together with anyone. If you want to be with the clown, that’s fine. But it’s NOT fine if you let him control you like this!”

“Yeah,” S4nf0rd added. “‘Cuz it sounds to me like it’s taking advantage of you.”

“It’s not like that…” H4nk responded, hands beginning to shake.

“Just saying! It might not actually—“

“S4nf0rd, stop,” D0c interrupted. “The point is, H4nk, you’ve taken this way too far. You need to lose this weight.” He sighed. “And now with the Agency still after you, I’m afraid I have no choice but to keep you in.”

“What?”

“You heard me. You’re not leaving this building until I say so. And to keep you on track with your diet, I’m banning you from using the kitchen. And to rebuild all the muscle you've lost, I'll be setting you up on a mandatory exercise routine."

"But I told the clown I’ll see him again today.”

“I think it’s best if you stay away from him for now. Especially if he’s enabling you like this.”

H4nk huffed. Grabbing his gear and pushing S4nf0rd and D31m0s out of the way, he left the bathroom. D0c followed him.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“I’m gonna go see him.”

“No you’re not.”

“Yes I am. I can handle myself out there.”

“H4nk, stop! You could barely get off the couch!”

H4nk was about to turn the doorknob.

“H4NK, IF YOU DIE LIKE THIS, I CAN’T REVIVE YOU!”

That stopped him in his tracks. D0c continued.

“Think about it. You can’t run. You can’t squeeze through anything. If the Agency captures you, you won’t be able to escape. And if you die out there, you’ll be trapped in the other place, and I won’t be able to bring you back. Now think. Are you going to work to lose this weight, or are you going to get yourself killed?”

H4nk stayed silent. He then removed his hand from the doorknob. He hung his head.

“Okay, D0c. I’ll listen to you.”

“Good. Now come on. Your first workout starts now.”

Three days had passed. H4nk was laying on his mattress, exhausted. Even with the strict exercise routine day after day, he felt weak. To the point that today, the first day D0c let S4nf0rd coach him, he worked him to the point of passing out. Then D0c allowed him a break in his room to recoup.

But H4nk didn’t feel like he could continue. In fact, he was starving. D0c only allowed him a little bit of food each day, enough to keep him alive. But to H4nk, it was barely a snack. And speaking of snacks, he kept begging S4nf0rd and D31m0s for even a taste of their leftovers, but they had to refuse.

This all left H4nk miserable, feeling hunger pains and hearing his empty stomach loudly growling. He was in sad shape. He should’ve been glad that he had lost a few pounds with this new routine. However, H4nk had a stubborn mind. And if he had to choose between being miserable for a benefit or living in ecstasy for a detriment, he would choose ecstasy.

He was getting out of here. But how?

WHY I THINK CARTEEK IS THE MOST REASNOABLE, HEALTHY CARTMAN SHIP-An Essay

**DISCLAMIER**: I've never done anything like this before and like I state throughout this essay, a lot of the evidence presented is a stretch, but I still really like Carteek and wanted to talk about them!! If anyone has any opinions on this whether they agree or disagree, I would love to hear it! I'm respectful of people's opinions on here and respect if people don't like this ship but I think it's dismissed to freely without being thought about.

When you think about it Carteek makes way more sense than popular Cartman ships like Kyman or Cutters because out of all the kids in South Park, it can most likely be said that Cartman is the nicest to Tweek.

Tweek is probably the kid in South Park that Cartman treats the best when it comes to the main 5 and then Craig's gang plus the girls.

We already know how he treats Kyle.

It can be said that he's pretty nice to Stan and Kenny but even then, he's done shit to them.

He's stated that he hates Craig before and then took his birthday money from him. (there's probably better evidence than that but I can't think of it)

He's pretty racist towards Token but I can't really tell if he's being mean or if he's just dumb.

He's pretty nice to Clyde to but then there was that pirate episode where he made him cry.

He stole Jimmy's fish sticks joke and manipulated him into thinking that he came up with the joke. He also beat Jimmy up when he was trying to be nicer to Kyle in Casa Bonita.

He was manipulative towards Heidi and we all know how he feels about the rest girls...

But the worst thing he's ever done to Tweek is probably when he got Craig to wear a Buddha Box and even then, it wasn't necessarily towards Tweek. He talked to Craig about getting away from his parents and relationships (I mean it could be said that this is directed at Tweek but then again, Craig has other friends, so it doesn't necessarily have to be his romantic relationship) but then when Craig started complaining about Tweek, Cartman went back to ignoring him.

(Like literally Craig, I love you and I get it but...shut up!)

But anyway, Cartman was not going to listen to Craig talk about his crush like that but that's literally the worst thing I can think of. And there's plenty of evidence that supports Cartman having a crush on Tweek.

GNOMES:

When Tweek is first introduced we see both Kyle and Stan complain about Tweek but Cartman doesn't say anything mean about him which is odd because... come on, it's CARTMAN.

Specfically:

Stan: Oh no, not Tweek.

Kyle: We don't want to be in a group with Tweek.

Mr. Garrison: There's nothing wrong with Tweek, I'm sure he'll do a great job in your group. (period Mr. Garrison)

Stan also says: Dude, we can't work with this kid.

Yet Cartman stays slight for once.

Then when they're working in their groups Cartman's the only one who believes Tweek about the underpants gnomes by saying:

He's so cute about it too. And the whole time during this scene he was just sitting there with a cute smile on his face.

Then when they're all at Tweek's house when Tweek's worried about his parents going out of business, Cartman out of all people is the one who attempts to comfort him when Kyle quote on quote, tells him not to worry about it.

Tweek shaking to death in the corner of his room: What if my parents go out of business? What'll I do?

Kyle's dumbass (affectionate): Don't worry about it.

Tweek: But we'll die and starve like dogs.

Kenny: Fuck you.

Cartman laughing: You suck Kenny.

See, Cartman made an attempt, as lazy and rude as it was, to make Tweek feel better and I actual feel like it was a genuine attempt, and that Cartman was just being stupid so it didn't really seem helpful. Plus, the attempt was made while ripping on Kenny, someone who it can be is one of Cartman's closer friends. So, it could be said that Cartman was showing off in front of Tweek.

My last piece of evidence from this scene is when they finally see the underpants gnomes and Cartman hits the one who's been stealing Tweek's underpants on the head with a stick.

I may be stretching this a little too far, but I like to view it as Cartman protecting his boyfriend from those thieves. And then when Kyle asks him why he had to hit the gnome on a head with a stick, Cartman stutters over his words, like he's trying to find an explanation that won't get him outed.

And that was just in Gnomes which was Tweek's first interaction with the main 4 plus his first actual episode. There's plenty of more examples of Cartman having an obvious crush on Tweek.

The next episode I can think of is Professor Chaos where they ultimately end of picking Tweek to be there new friend. Even more specifically near the end where they're down to the last five contestants. This may also be a stretch but...

Cartman thinks Towelie is awesome, but Kyle eliminates him since he's always high

Cartman calls Timmy self-absorbed

Cartman calls Token a smart ass

I think it was pretty safe to say that Pip wasn't going to be their new friend since they got mad at him at whatever game they were at and plus, the hate that child.

So, it may have just been foreshadowing since Tweek was the only one who no one said anything about, but I would just like to point out that once again, Cartman said nothing about Tweek.

I just find this very interesting because Cartman's very opinionated and doesn't spare people his opinions. I love Tweek but it's obvious that he has obvious flaws, and I wouldn't be surprised if something was said about Tweek. Stan and Kyle have said some pretty rude things about Tweek before (which hurts my Steek heart) but Cartman hasn't which I just can't get over.

So, in the end, they pick Tweek as their new friend.

The next piece of evidence is once again, a bit of a stretch but sometimes you just gotta pull that evidence in your favor. In the next episode, The Simpsons Already Did It, Cartman gets upset when his fish people things don't work.

You may see this as plain rude, but I see it as Cartman of all people being the only fucking person in that entire town that cares about the fact that Tweek walks around with his shirt buttons mismatched so his bare stomach is exposed when it's fucking snowing outside. He's only angry because he cares about Tweek and doesn't want him to freeze to death.

The next example I can think of is in Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society which is a pretty obvious example. When the boys meet at the restaurant, Cartman decides to kick Kyle out of the group first, over Tweek who's been there the least amount of time. You could say this is due to the fact that Cartman does not like Kyle but when I first watched this episode, I was pretty sure Cartman was going to kick Tweek out. But he didn't. Because he loves him.

This example is yet again, another stretch but also in Bebe's Bobbs Destroy Society, after Cartman gets kicked out of the group, he goes to the bus stop where the boys are with Bebe and gets upset again, stating:

Cartman: That's fine, that's fine! Fuck you Kyle and fuck you Stan!

Cartman walks away before walking back up to the group

Cartman: Fuck you, Tweek!

You have to look deeper here. Cartman is obviously hurt that Tweek didn't fight for him to stay in the group and was debating on whether he should call Tweek out on it or not. That's why he didn't flip Tweek off at first but then he changed his mind because Tweek upset him.

The next example is also pretty obvious and comes from the episode Child Abduction Is Not Funny where the boys go to the movies and Tweek freaks out over a new ticket booth man. Cartman expresses his concern for Tweek with the following comment:

Cartman: God, what the hell did his parents do to him?

Whether this was meant as a joke or was sincere, it's unclear but I like to think of it as the latter.

After that it is assumed that Tweek was kicked out of the group or just stopped hanging out with Stan, Kyle and Cartman since Kenny was reintroduced and he wasn't seen with them anymore.

Another example I can think of is another stretch and supports the fact that Cartman and Tweek are friends more than it supports Cartman's crush but it's from Tweek x Craig when Cartman is questioning Tweek and Craig's relationship. Afterall, it can be said that Cartman is the reason that Tweek and Craig ended up together since he had Cupid-Me shoot them with his arrows. Like I said, it doesn't really support Carteek romantically as much as it does support Carteek as friends but it's still nice since Cartman wasn't just thinking of himself in this episode. He even stated that he cared about the town when he went to Cupid-Me at the bar and told him that the whole town was depressed that Tweek, and Craig broke up.

The last example I can think of is, you guessed it, a stretch but comes from Put It Down, where Cartman expresses concern for Tweek (I don't know if this is what he was actually doing or if he was just annoyed with Tweek but let's go with the first one) and tells Craig that he needs to get Tweek to get a hold of himself.

So in conclusion:

Carteek needs more love.

I've literally seen people who ship Kyman out of all the Cartman ships they could ship, say that Carteek sucks. You guys can't be talking, and this is coming from someone who's favorite ship for both Cartman and Kyle is Kyman.

I also don't want to see anymore fanfics where Cartman and Tweek hate each other and where Cartman bullies the hell out of Tweek because it's very overused with very little canon back up besides the fact that Cartman's a bully. Sure, he is a bully but it doesn't seem to be that way when it comes to Tweek.

Although there's not really any canon facts that support Tweek liking Cartman (especially that one scene), I still think it's very cute when you think about one-sided Carteek on Cartman's side.

(Which I really don't understand Tweek because he's never really done anything to you... well maybe except for when he forced you to spend your night making paper hats, but you never sleep anyway so...)

I think when it comes to a lot of Cartman ships, people automatically dismiss them because of Cartman himself and yes, when there's ships like Kyman and Cutters (once again, not hating because Kyman is my OTP and I ship Cutters too) which are obviously not that great when it comes to how Cartman treats Kyle and Butters, but Carteek seems to be different.

And yes, it's fun to ship Kyman, it really is since they have such a weird dynamic with each other so maybe a ship like Carteek may not be as interesting to some people seeing that Cartman is actually pretty nice to Tweek, but I think that's what actually makes it interesting. Cartman isn't nice to anyone, not really even his mom and even though Tweek and Cartman have minimal interaction with each other, there's plenty of evidence that shows Cartman's attraction to Tweek whether it's just as friends or romantically. I mean, come one Cartman wasn't even as nice to his own girlfriend as he was to Tweek.

But it's very hard to tell when Cartman is generally concerned and when he actually cares about someone, so you really have to put some pieces together when it comes to this evidence. Sure, Cartman might come off as rude when he says stuff like "God, what the hell did his parents do to him?" but I like to see it as him being genuine.

Obviously Tweek is my favorite character and Cartman is in the top ten and I have a habit of shipping my favorite characters together because... well that's kind of how it is the most time but unlike my OTP, Steek (even though I could probably find some evidence if I put my mind to it) and Twenny, Tweek ships that don't really interact with each other, I find Carteek to make a lot of sense.

"The Dark Tower" Morgwen Interactions Analysis

i've literally been waiting for someone to ask me this so i can go all out in answer, so you're literally my favorite- THANK YOU! i've tried to put all the thoughts swirling around in my head into one coherent post, so strap in and let's LOOK AT THE IMPLICATIONS (from my perspective)!

first and most importantly, i want to zero in on morgana's choice of kidnapee; she could've chosen anyone in camelot, any one of the knigts who were regularly privy to arthur's battle plans and schedule, but nope. if we're looking at it from the perspective of "she needs the closest person to arthur" wouldn't that be merlin? she could have kidnapped and brainwashed him; he would've made for a fabulous inconspicious mole in the court, and arthur literally goes to him for anything and everything. i actually think it would make for a really interesting au/fic if it were merlin who was kidnapped instead of gwen (love confession/magic reveal possibilities are ENDLESS), but maybe it's a little too close to the plot of "a servant of two masters" and the writers didn't want to be repetitive. i'm going to be biased and delusional in believing that morgana did choose gwen, in particular, for more personal reasons as well as for her nefarious ones.

the way i see it (and this is obviously very objective), by the time we get to this point in s5, morgana is LONELY, like, has-no-one-in-the-world-except-aithusa type of lonely, and her choice of allies has been lacking diversity as of late (why are they all men 💀), AND they all end up dying anyway. so, she needs a plan, and she needs a trusted ally (she also needs a bit of love and lip balm cause DAMN). BUT the thing is, why would anyone be loyal to her? she's never kept any allies (or friends) thanks to her wit and charm alone, she's only ever kept men loyal to her by striking fear in their hearts. it's the same for her friends and family, i think. she doesn't believe they even tolerate her existence, so she needs to be crowned queen to subdue them and FORCE them to respect her. the same goes for gwen. she was only morgana's friend when morgana was a naive and vulnerable girl, plagued by nightmares and unexplained fears, and the second morgana grew out of them (or learned to control them) gwen stopped being affectionate, stopped being open. that's how morgana sees it, and it only reinforces her belief that gwen would never understand the person she's become now, she wouldn't quite see what morgana was trying to do. unless morgana forced her to.

the whole kidnapping affair was to MAKE gwen understand, because she wouldn't do it of her own free will. gwen would never willingly be on morgana's side, so she had to jump through a few morally questionable hoops to bring her over. in the end, i do believe all morgana really wanted was a friend (maybe a little bit more, amirite ladies), though by this point her concept of friendship had become twisted beyond recognition, and in all the chaos, this was the only way she thought she could have one. throughout the episode, a lot of the old morgana shines through, even if it is portrayed as just manipulation, and i do think that was her either slipping back into old habits or forcing herself to, for the sake of the brainwashing and for the sake of their friendship that she's trying to rekindle.

a point that i've seen several people make is that between the niceties, the "real" morgana peeks through several times throughout the ep, but i kinda disagree. i don't necessarily think that just because her smile drops, it means that the niceties were a facade and her "evil" side pops back out. i read the sudden change in expression more as disappointment. gwen fights back with such vigour that it's probably painful for morgana to realize that her former friend sees her as nothing more than an evil witch who's hell-bent on hurting her, now. she's disappointed that gwen, who was supposed to know her best, believes what the others do, and doesn't believe that morgana is being sincere in her offer of friendship.

a small remark i also have is: why wasn't morgana one of the visions/hallucinations gwen had in the dark tower? it's interesting to see that the closest three people to gwen are her brother, arthur, and merlin, of all people. i feel like gwen's history with morgana has to have had a lasting effect on both of them, even if morgana is supposed to be "evil" now. you don't stop loving someone just because they've chosen (or BEEN chosen by) the dark side. morgana was one of the people gwen cared about most in seasons 1 through 3 (s3 is pushing it a little, but still), it doesn't really make sense for it all to be forgotten so completely like we see in this episode. i also think it would've been super interesting to see a hallucination of younger morgana in particular, partially as a reminder that part of gwen still cares about morgana and largely because i'd like to see how gwen would react to that vision... would it differ from the other three? what would morgana do? would she sneer and laugh like elyan and arthur? would she do a little rawr like merlin (😭)? i feel like a ficlet is in order for this concept cause i would like to see it but i have to imagine it first (but that's the hard part 😭)

NOW ONTO THE MOST DELICIOUS PART OF THIS ANALYSIS: THE QUOTES

M: "Would you prefer some chicken?"

i just found this one hilarious tbh like she's so out of pocket what are you doing offering your kidnapee some chicken and WHAT WAS THE OTHER OPTION, IF NOT CHICKEN?

M: "I know how lonely you must be, all by yourself in that room. At least you're not shackled, and there's daylight. You can move, you can see."

oof. she's obviously referring to her own capture and torture, pulling from her own experience. it's heartwrenching that morgana has been through all of this, traumatised beyond reason, but it's even more heartwrenching that she thinks she's doing gwen a service, like this. it might not seem like that to any sane person, but after everything she's been through, morgana's worldview is completely different. in her mind, however twisted and detached it has become, she's being merciful to gwen this way, giving her luxuries that she was never afforded when she was captured. (including a warm meal with chicken at miss havisham's table 🤩)

M: "I too have suffered, Gwen. I spent two years living in darkness. I spent two years chained to a wall at the bottom of a pit... You did not know."

goddddd this line... it's just so painful, so powerful, so indicative of SO MANY THINGS. it's EVERYTHING. every acting choice katie and angel made in this scene was brilliant but ESPECIALLY their facial expressions in this particular part WOAH. the way morgana's voice cracks on the word "pit" is DEVASTATING. i was floored. the way gwen's face falls as she processes her words and they properly set in... INCREDIBLE. the concern in gwen's eyes is palpable as she realizes the horrors inflicted on her friend. and the final "you did not know" was so, so powerful. morgana realizes that gwen didn't know about and clearly wasn't okay with what she went through. gwen had no part in it. morgana SMILES at gwen's reaction, but instead of it being a smile of malice or evil it's one of RELIEF, and one that she hides very promptly. she's reassured in the knowledge that gwen had no idea she had suffered so immensely, and that, more importantly, she wasn't involved in it. it's SO important to note that morgana has no idea whether arthur had a hand in her own torture or not. it's especially not a good look on him that he invites the sarrum as a friend of camelot so soon after the events of "the dark tower", so, as far as morgana knows, he could've been a "friend" when she was being tortured for years, too. i wonder what would've happened if morgana had kidnapped gwen AFTER the sarrum's visit to camelot... i feel like that would have complicated things with gwen much further, if morgana thought she was complicit in her imprisonment.

M: "I would have sold my soul for someone to show me kindness such as this."

only two points on this heartbreaking line: 1- FUCK the sarrum of amata. all my homies HATE the sarrum. s4 and s5 morgana might both be textbook cases of "evil", but they're two VERY different people with two very different worldviews and tactics. morgana's imprisonment turned her into the cold husk of a person she is by s5. and 2- this just further confirms that morgana thinks she's doing gwen a favor, dining with her and letting sunlight into her room and choosing not to tie her up etc.

M: "Your hands are cold... I have a warm fire going for you."

oh boy is this a MOMENT. the way morgana keeps her hand held out. the way gwen reluctantly puts her hand in hers (MORGWEN HAND-HOLD!) *ivy by taylor swift starts playing out of nowhere* {ohhhhh goddamn, my pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand, taking mine, but it's been promised to another, ohhh}

um anyway i digressed. then the way gwen wriggles her hand out of morgana's grasp, while morgana grips her fingers with unwavering determination... it's just delicious.

M: "Anything you want, you can have. I'll give it to you."

idk about you but personally i'm SOLD. take all my money. i read this as morgana trying her utmost best to sell gwen on joining her, but i can also see the manipulation laced in it.

G: "Why are you doing this?"

M: "Because we're friends. We always were."

to me, this reinforces the theory that morgana's just trying to get her friend back on her side. by stating that they've always been friends, morgana reaffirms their friendship as much to herself as to gwen. she was her friend once, and she can be again.

M: "I'm helping you. I'm looking after you."

this sort of feels like morgana is telling herself that, more than she's telling gwen. maybe it's just part of the manipulation process, but i do believe that this was morgana's conscience reassuring her that what she's doing is in gwen's favor and that she's being kind to her.

M: "It's alright, I'm here."

UGH this line. morgana is being the person she needed when she was imprisoned. this scene is also a parallel to all the times morgana woke up screaming in the middle of the night and gwen was there to comfort her in s1/2. this time the tables have turned and it's morgana comforting gwen. simply delicious.

M: "My darling, I was wrong to make you suffer."

TEA! to say that this line was spoken from the bottom of morgana's heart might just be a bit too delusional, but i like to think there's at least some truth to it. torturing gwen had a lot of paralells to morgana's own imprisonment and torture, and she did want to make her suffer, at least in the beginning. but it was also different from what morgana went through. this is NOT to justify torture, btw, torture is BAD, but her "manipulation" tactics got a bit too personal at some point, and i like to think at least a part of it was genuine.

G: "No. Whatever twisted game you're playing, I want no part in it. I would rather stay here and die."

ouch. gwen's resistance to the last possible minute shows such strength on her part (cause me? i would've given in before she even dragged me through the desert tbh) and it gave us such a delicious performance from angel; the reluctance? the uncertainty? the distrust? the relief that morgana is there but also the FEAR of what she's doing? the contradiction between the morgana that gwen once knew and the morgana that everyone KNOWS is evil? but the morgana that gwen once knew is shining through now, and she's saying everything gwen wants to hear... grade-A angst.

IN CONCLUSION they're gfs your honor, this was all just a plot to snatch gwen back from arthur cause morgana didn't think seducing her herself would work. (this phrase could be in reference to this ep or the "lancelot du lac" ep i'm cackling morgana really is hopeless) there are also SEVERAL psychological layers to it, but describing it this way is just easier.

SO... this is possibly the longest post i've ever made. it got a little more comprehensive than i originally thought it would be, but THERE YOU HAVE IT! that's my take on the morgwen interactions in the dark tower. if i seem a little biased, that's because i 100% am :) i hope that clears things up. this is an open invitation to keep sending me asks (even if it's about the most random things ever) cause i love them and i love every single person who sends in an ask, and a public apology for how long these answers get sometimes 😭

As for your question...

Man, that's tough. I have a hard time picking one thing---I mean, *gestures to all the fic* you know? But I can narrow it down to a couple of scenes/elements:

The fact that a romanced Fenris still calls you "my friend" even after the act 2 romance scene. This is just...the bedrock of their relationship to me. Yes, that night went very poorly (understatement, I know), but at the core they are friends and he trusts Hawke in a way he's likely never had the cause or opportunity to trust someone before. I believe he never stopped loving Hawke, and it was a matter of laying those feelings out and understanding them one at a time. Romantic love not replacing platonic love or eclipsing it, but building or twining together is just... *chef's kiss* that's the good stuff.

The moment during the romance conversation in Act 3 when you can see Fenris go from hoping (painfully hoping!) that there is still some way he and Hawke can be together to actually believing it will happen. There is a shift in his body language that I could watch (and...have) over and over.

The element of choice? This is not going to be coherent, but the fact that he is learning for the first time what it means to have options and preferences, and he spends a lot of time exploring and understanding himself...and after all of that, the thing he keeps coming back to is Hawke. I think it's gorgeous. A song with refrains of pain or fear and choruses of decision and hope. He's loyal to a fault, in many ways, but understanding how much of himself exists to share and then still choosing to share it is just...man. I said this wasn't going to be coherent lol, so there you are. "If there is a future to be had..." like he doubts its existence but he's willing to chance it for Hawke. Man.

But, honestly? I've played DA2 a lot of times and never romanced another character, even though I've played through multiple romance storylines in each of the other games. I can't shake the Fenris romance. Every time I open a new playthrough, I tell myself that this is the time I'm going to romance Isabela, and every time Fenris rips that dude's heart out and I just......alright, yeah. Okay. Here we go again.
