You hear a lot about the #BlessingtonLakes but what is it exactly?
Set in the Wicklow Mountains, the Blessington Lakes cover 5000 acres water. The Lakes were formed 50 years ago by the building of the Poulaphouca Dam and hydroelectric station.
The Poulaphouca reservoir is the largest man made lake in Ireland and is a great base for various outdoor activities.
The road around the lake offers amazing views over the reservoir and the Wicklow Mountains. Drive or Cycle around the lake going through historic villages such as Valleymount, Ballyknockan or Lacken.
Walk the popular Blessington Greenway, which we’ve talked about previously, visit nearby Russborough House and its interactive exhibition or enjoy a paddle on the lake.
Make sure to check out this video to get a glimpse at what you can expect!

The votes are in...
The votes are in for the the best spice bag in Blessington!
In 3rd place we have...Lemon Tree! First of all this spice BAG comes in a tray, already starting off on a bad foot. It is also a smaller amount of food in comparison to its competitors and we know that bang for your buck is important.
In 2nd place we have...Famous Inn! Although the reigning champ when it comes to most things this year Famous Inn just didn't cut first place. That's not to say that their spice bag is delicious and full of spicy veggies along with your staple chicken and chips!
And last but defenity not least in 1st place...Tikka! The newest of competitors and the underdog of the competition easily won this. With its unique dry rub spices and well as their thinner, crispier chips it's the clear winner. (Serious lack of veggies thought.)
Make sure you check these places out for yourself when you #VisitBlessington and don't forget to #SupportLocal!

Greenway
The Greenway is a trail that links the historic town of Blessington to the Palladian mansion at Russborough House.  This is an opportunity to rejuvenate the senses, explore the beautify landscapes of Blessington and immerse yourself in nature. A must do for any and all outdoor enthusiasts.
The trail begins in Blessington and leads along the shores of Blessington Lakes and goes through areas of natural forestry and woodlands. It then crosses an ancient medieval Ringfort, uses the footpath along the N81 before turning back into the forest at Burgage Moyle lane. It then crosses the Valleymount Road (R758) and makes its way to Russellstown Bay adjacent to Russborough House. This trail allows you to appreciate the beautiful scenery and wildlife on offer in the area.
This immersive experience can be accessed by any number of means it can be walked, ran, or cycled which is facilitated by bike hires within the area if needed.
The Blessington Greenway is being developed further into the Wicklow Greenway and in the future will be the first official E-Greenway in Ireland too!
The trail approximately takes 1.5 hours to complete the total 6.5kms and is suitable for anyone to enjoy!
