Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

📚 It is difficult to express into words the enjoyment I had from experiencing this book first hand. I found unexplainable joy from getting lost in this story. And I mean getting lost in the literal way.

The narrative centers around Samantha and her last semester at her prestigious grad school. We follow her as she struggles to write her thesis and longs to fit in with her four classmates.

I loved the way dark academia was satirized and juxtaposed with horror. I felt that the main character was somewhat of an unreliable narrator. It seemed that she was misreading a lot of her interaction with others. The unreliability of her narration mixed with the beautiful description of the world through a brainwashed, drug fueled mind, created such a compelling story. I was confused but couldn't put the book down.

This book felt weirdly freeing. It made me feel like my mind was free to create conspiracies and extrapolate on the small bites of information given. I loved trying to understand Samantha and wondering if I could trust her.

A while back I made this post talking about the invisible hardships of getting into a high demanding career for people with cognitive disabilities who have no financial security. And then on a hopeful day I thought I found the answer: support from people.

Now I have results, I have faith, I know it's possible and I know I can do it. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I know there's a life where I can do what I love and I can learn how to do it as well.

For everyone who feels like their disabilities make them stupid, less, not worthy, not capable, dumb. I fucking promise you, you can do it, you just need to find a way it works for you.
