Hey! First, I love your blog!! I am starting uni this September and I'm kinda nervous. Mostly because I'm quite shy... Do you have any advice on meeting people and making friends there? I know everyone is new at university and it's almost impossible to not have any friends, I just was wondering if there are any good things to do to make everything less awkward at first... When trying to make friends anywhere, it’s so important to just put yourself out there! During the first weeks of school, there will likely be some social events planned for new students -- go to them! Join clubs that interest you and meet people there. Talk to the people that sit around you while you’re waiting for class to start. It may be a little awkward but like you said, everyone is new and feeling a little awkward and they’ll just be glad that you started the conversation first! So just get out there and ask people about their majors and their pets, tell them you like their shirt, ask them to go to the dining hall with you, and I promise you’ll have friends in no time!

How do you take your pictures? The lightning is amazing! And what camera do you use?? Thanks and LOADS OF LOVE💓have a nice day

First of all, THANK YOU! It takes me quite a few tries to take my pictures, not going to lie, and on days where the lighting isn’t cooperating (yes, I’m talking to you, yesterday’s lighting!) pictures don’t turn out too well. I use a combination of natural light (my desk is right in front of my window) and my white LED lights when the sun isn’t too bright. You have to pay attention to shadows, and stuff like that. I use my iPhone 6 camera :) I usually edit with a lot of contrast instead of exposure, because I find that using exposure just washes out my words and you can’t see a thing. The default light setting in my iPhone actually works really well, too.

sure! my advice is not to stress too much about it. during the first week of college/university you will meet soo many people and everyone is just as eager to make friends. there will be many chances during orientation to meet people, and you’ll probably end up making friends without even trying. if you don’t, you can always join clubs for things you’re genuinely interested in, because then you’ll meet other people interested in those things.

i am typically a shy person, but i had very little trouble because everyone is trying to meet people. i didn’t stress too much about it or try too hard because i was meeting people left and right. i know it can seem hard, but there are going to be a lot of other people nervous about making friends too. i don’t know if this is the best advice, but just try not to overthink it!

Educational YouTubers

If you’re a visual or audiotory learner, YouTube has to be the place for you! Don’t be afraid to ditch your textbooks when necessary to learn something your own way!

Here are some of my favorite educational YoutTube channels!

TED-Ed

You’ve heard of TEDx Talks, now get ready for TED-Ed! These videos range from philosophy and history to science and riddles! They even have a few videos on writing! Most all videos are done in five minute animations with narration and also include links to full lessons in the descriptions of the videos. Watching this channel for hours on end will only scratch the surface of what is offered!

CrashCourse

This one you’ve probably already heard of, but it’s worth checking out! Since CrashCourse has been online for years now, they now have several very interesting videos to watch, ranging from psychology to sociology and physics to film history. They also have videos centered around literature and astronomy and so much more. My personal favorite has been the mythology videos! The videos are made weekly in a series format, so you could watch one lesson a week or binge watch the whole class once it’s done.

Overly Sarcastic Productions

If you’re not so into the lecturing-style the above channels have, then a great place to check out is Overly Sarcastic Productions. These videos are actually made by two college students hoping to teach their favorite subjects in a humorous way! They have videos ranging from literature to history to mythology, as well as some videos on religion and philosophy. And most all of these videos are done in adorable animation and are quite easy to follow, and they stand the test of watching multiple times!

NerdyAndQuirky

If you’re looking for something even more casual and without any sort of curriculum, if you’re just looking to watch some educational videos just for the fun of it—I highly suggest NerdyAndQuirky! This channel is chock full of “Cool History,” ranging from art to debunking myths as well as video essays and some social commentary. Also, get ready for the puns!

introductory post !

hi all! my name’s amelia (but you can call me mill) and this is my study blog i created way back in november or summin, and only just finished sprucing up so it’s ready to go! figured it’s a good idea to introduce myself :)

about me

i’m 19 years old and currently live in england

i just finished my first year of university studying psychology, but i am transferring to biology for the academic year 2017-2018!

i study at university college london in, you guessed it, london

i’m a volunteer for festival republic, and work for a couple festivals during the festival season!

hobbies/interests

i play piano and a little bit of guitar

i like drawing/sketching, and designing tattoos!

i’m interested in learning in general: biology, botany, astrophysics, philosophy, music theory, pretty much anythin!

i freakin love cartoons, and i’m not talkin about adult cartoons, i waste so much time watching the amazing world of gumball

i like plant biology in particular and classification, with trees and mosses and liverworts and all that jazzy stuff

i listen to lofi religiously while i study, it’s amazing

why make a studyblr?

like most of you i suppose, i need help getting motivated sometimes. i’ve found studyspo and studyblr posts to be a great way to do this, and studyblr masterposts are so useful! this seems like a great community of diligent workers, and while i’ve got some distance to go in being a good student, i figured this will help~! i hope to be posting lots of original content soon, but term time doesn’t start till the 25th september haha. i’m mainly interested in posting my own notes and creating (hopefully) useful resources!

1D day 23.11.2013 of course… But seriously when women got the right to vote in the UK in 1928 (I know it started in 1918 but it was only all women in 28)

I don’t know. I don’t really watch any musicals, but I want to see Dear Evan Hansen

5.where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Inshallah I will just be graduating with a psychology degree, I will have work experience. I hope to be confident in myself, and genuinely happy with who I am

6.would you ever travel the world? if so what are your top 3 places to visit?

I would love to travel the world part by part, and I’d love to go to every place. Top three would have to be Makkah and Madinah, Dubai, and Portugal

7. do you have any pets?

Nope, I’ve had some in my past, but not at the moment

8. if you could be any character from any film who would you be?

Maybe like Margo from Paper Towns, or Hermione Granger? Someone like that

I guess I’m a nice person. I do like that about myself
