Reject their offer to turn over a new leaf and instead attack them? Congratulations! You’re about to be crushed because you keep cutting the strings holding up your super-weapon; He spent like an hour practicing his big intro to intimidate Po, and he interrupted it by just saying “Hey”.

His plan is working. He’s won over his son by telling him how they can be a family again, and he knows peters wanted that since he lost his mother. He then decides this would be the Perfcet time to casually mention that it was actually him that killed peters mother. Surely this will have no negative consequences oH WHAT WAIT IM BEING SHOT AT AHHHH; Quite possibly the only thing that could’ve broken his mind control thing over Peter and ruined his plan. Idiot forgot peters only half living planet celestial and actually no isn’t gonna agree with his reasoning for killing his mother. And excellent hubris in that his downfall comes literally less than a second later. Peter wastes no time in switching sides and trying to kill him as soon as he finds out. Painful scene but also satisfying, which is what hubris is supposed to be.

I hadn't watched the Guardians of the Galaxy holyday special!! Was anybody gonna tell me it actually confirmed that Mantis is Ego's daughter or was I supposed to find that out in a YouTube comment myself?!??!?

I'm so freaking happy :D this is the first time a headcanon I subscribe to has ever been made official!!! I was CONVINCED that Mantis was one of Ego's kids when GotG2 came out (it was perfectly logical - why would Ego take notice of a random kid to enslave, when his main characteristic is making kids with all known species and taking them to back to his planet and only killing them when they prove useless to him? We know he mated with one of Mantis' species from his displays - hence he necessarily had an empath kid, so no need to go grab one unrelated to him: Mantis was useful so he kept her, like a "flea with a purpose.") I never expected it to be acknowledged tho!! But the plot bunnies are back!! The fluff is back!!! Peter has a sis sjsjdsjsjszjkz 💛💛 I can go back to imagining Ravager AUs where Mantis gets picked up by Yondu along with Peter 😍 or even better, grows up with Meredith.

GotG is the only Marvel franchise that still elicits feels in me. It actually cares enough to flesh out its characters in ways by building from the little things (like Yondu's fatherly love for Peter was possible to conjecture from the first movie but was still unsubstantiated until the second, like Kraglin being Peter's "big bro" from the Ravagers was just hinted at but now he's part of the Guardian fam, and like Mantis obviously being one of Ego kids is finally a thing) so that the audience can pick up on the clues and predict how the relationships are naturally going to develop. It doesn't betray the viewers by dropping the subtext bc the writers have changed their minds and playing dumb and saying people imagined things that weren't there - it follows things through!!!!

Anyway I KNEW IT. I FREAKING KNEW IT!! MANTIS IS PETER'S SISTER BAAAAYBEEE!!!!

also i’ve mentioned before that drax’s nurturing instincts impacted the plot of this volume in a big way thanks to the bond he developed with mantis, born explicitly out of him seeing his daughter in her. it was this bond that convinced mantis to tell him about ego’s plan. BUT ALSO it is how he convinced mantis to try to put ego to sleep, buying the guardians valuable time. AND MORE. love drax so much

also i didn’t realize it but we get another “yeah” moment from rocket in the middle of this fight on ego. that fuckin voice

and the lingering closing shot on rocket and his tears - the fact that he is the only focus of this film’s final shot - it wrecks me every time
