29.12.2022 - I actually finished a book! I've been so slow reading these last few months but I did it! I actually really enjoyed Ivanhoe, I was pleasantly surprised considering how many people I've seen try to read it and struggle, but I thought it was a delight. I would recommend if you like Robin Hood, medieval romance, or knights and tourneys.
In more exciting news, I bought a car! It's currently being serviced, etc. So I won't actually have it until next week but I'm very excited! Starting to feel like an actual adult, it's surreal 😅
Currently reading: Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson; The Red and the Black by Stendhal

Yesterday I signed up for classes! Can’t believe I’ll be back at the campus in a month’s time😊 Despite the start of semester was delayed because of corona virus, I’m already starting to feel nervous about going back to school. Looks like impostor syndrome’s hibernation is coming to its end 😬 I’m excited to go back and nerd freely, I’m also worried at the same time whether I can do this.
During my time off, my Korean got worse, and I’m trying to improve before the class begin. So studying ahead, or just reading in Korean will hopefully help.
Today is a public holiday in my country so I wake up late than usual. Then, I spent most of my day studying mandarin and read shinrin yoku. I also did some bullet journaling, and read through some that I had written before. Its like walking through a memory lane. As for work, since its a holiday, I decide not to do anything related to work, so I don’t get burn out.
Our holiday is slowly coming to a close and I am enjoying every last minute of it. I have taken the last few days off to trek waterfalls, hike wainwrights, go kayaking, and spend time at the pub. It has been perfect. Below are a couple of photos from the last few days.
One of the few things I appreciate about doing the actual climb up the mountain is the fact that you need to be physically capable to make it up to the top and it gives me hope that the sheer amount of wine I drink and chocolate I eat haven’t set me back too much. :’)

Work is going to be absolutely hectic next week and I am also a little behind with my literature review progress. But, whatever, even final year PhD students are allowed a little time off.
I leave you with a short encounter I had with a local who I asked whether living in the Lake District permanently makes one less appreciative of how beautiful it is here. And he said, “for some, yes, for me, no, but I believe that you have to look, to really look at what’s in front of you, and all too often people forget to do that”. I decided to follow his advice, and for the first time noticed that a wall I have walked by many times is actually beaming with life (see photo at the end of the post). 🌿
Take time to look, and really notice where you are, what is in your space, and who you share it with. You never know how it might change your life and your perspective of it.
Until next week!

I’m all packed for my trip to Italy (minus the essentials needed for the morning)!!!
so nervous to fly for the first time but so excited to see my friend and all the beautiful sights where she lives. And to take a break from studying, November was a horrible month for me.
I apologise in advance for the photo spam that will commence next week
Taken in 2018 and 2019, featuring my favourite Christmas trees of the city: Magdalen College, Bodleian Library quod and the Alice-in-Wonderland tree in Christ Church

I should be finishing an essay on Henri Matisse, but I'm so distracted by my longing for summer vacation, this semester feels endless. So I started looking at my travel journal from when I went to Porto to visit a friend and the nostalgia was intense. I wish I could go there this summer, because I feel in love with this city. What are your summer plans?
01.05.2023 - I was feeling restless this morning so I drove over to a local craft and artisan hub for the Bank Holiday. I bought the most divine lemon loaf cake and some silver and pearl earrings, whilst Dad got some chocolates. It was so lovely to take the day slowly and enjoy the sun whilst looking around some really wonderful shops.
I'm now settling down to eat the said cake (it's just that good!) and try to find a new read. I still can't pick a book but I have started a few.
(Potentially) currently reading: If on a winter's night a traveller by Italo Calvino; Waverley by Sir Walter Scott; Evelina by Francis Burney
Is anyone else planning to have a low key New Year's Eve this year? Would you be interested if I hosted a bookish virtual party here on Tumblr? We could play tag games and do a readathon/readalong?
also-- got my final paper grade back and i got a 97% ... which gives me straight As for my courses this semester ! ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
and i think my professor noticed that their critiques were always ‘do better’ and they’ve started giving small compliments in feedback which is really nice (and it doesn’t feel nearly as futile to work hard)
plus i would have to majorly b*mb next semester to miss the thesis cut off (i WON’T ... let’s remember sexy schedule.. i’ll have even more time) ... so i can breathe about that
this was probably my favorite fall semester in three years (when i got my aa) 🌱
