Hi. What do you think about new chapter?

Honestly? For the most part I was just bored. As much as I love that izuku got his arms back, you can see that the only reason why hori let him lose them in the first place was to shock the readers. This is the same bullcrap he did with bakugous fake death. To let him get "killed" just to let him get resurrected in the very next chapter.

It was clear izuku would get his arms back, but at least it should have lastet a few chapters to show readers how serious the whole situation is. There are no stakes in this "war". The good guys dont die and if they get injured a "wonder" happens so they will not die or end up terrible disabled for the rest of their lives. And just like I said after the latest chapter, deux ex machina eri is the one who saves the day of course.

Again, it was clear izuku would get his arms back and that it would be eris doing. Thats not my problem. My problem is that I dont like it when an author writes shocking scenes simply just for the shock value and to trend on twitter and not because its important for the story. Thats horrible and lazy writing and just screams "I want attention!"

An other problem I have is that eri can simply just "cut her horn off" it seems. By that logic there was never a reason for chisaki to abuse eri like he did. He could have simply waited till the horn was big enough and then cut it off and I dont think chisaki was to dumb to not realize that by himself. I dont know if it means that eri is kinda quirkless from now on, but knowing hori I wouldnt bet on it and I think the horn will just grow back. I also dont like how eri calls bakugou "kacchan." We never see them interacting in the manga or that they formed a relationship. As far as I know only in the light novels in which eri is scared of him they interact. I just dont think hori should put things that happen in other medias like the light novels or movies in the manga, because it could confuse people that only have read the manga and nothing else.

About the whole kurogiri vs aizawa and mic interaction. The whole thing just startet so I guess we will see an other flashback so I cant say much about it yet. I just wished hori would stop skipping whole fights of other characters just because he likes to focus on bakugou instead by giving him TWO fights! Bakugou has enough spotlight, other characters deserve it more and not just flashback fights.

I liked though that it was mentioned that eri is learning from aizawa and thinks rational like him, so thats why she cut her horn just like he did cut his leg off. Its also cute how she mentioned that she wants to become a singer like jiro. The only other thing I liked was that afomura is starting to look more like the original afo now, because thats a thing I was wondering if it will happen. Him looking exactly like his original body and then fighting izuku would be great.

All in all the chapter was meeehhhh from what I have seen so far. Its funny because I hated the last chapter at first because the spoilers and translation were worded so bad but now I actually quite like it. For this chapter I dont feel much except maybe bored and annoyance over hori writing shock moments that dont mean anything but to shock his readers. I simply dont like it when authors do that.

Aizawa was not fazed. “You all know how Shinsou’s quirk works. Once you respond to him, he can make you do anything. That is all. Is that too hard for you?”

The class frowned. Was that a trick question?

Aizawa nodded, and made to sit down. Shinsou stopped him, speaking quietly, “I… I think you’re overestimating my power, here.”

Aizawa just scoffed, “I think you’re underestimating their stupidity.”

After five minutes, there were only three students in front of him. Kouda, because he didn’t talk anyway, Ojirou, because he had actually learned his lesson at the sports festival, and Sero, who had literally taped his mouth shut.

Aizawa walked towards them and stood next to Shinsou. The ones at the wall, looked at him in varying degrees, of shame and disbelief.

The teacher sighed, “All you had to do was not talk.” He shook his head at them, “That’s all you had to do.”

Pro Hero Hawks: So you’ll get to meet all kinds of heroes! Maybe even All Might!

Pro Hero Hawks: Yes, this is naked bribery.

“Young Midoriya is quite the hero fan, isn’t he?”

“He’s not just a fan, Yagi-san, he’s not just an air conditioner either: Midoriya-kun is an entire HVAC system.”

Izuku, despite his professionalism as an analyst, despite his commitment to be a hero, still found that teenage urge to throw his head back and groan at the prospect of something that could be seen as a boring, pointless task. He fought the feeling down, self-control pinning it to the ground and discipline clubbing it with a half-brick in a sock before dragging it back into the depths of his mind, and then assumed a low stance.

Mirko’s kicks were well known for breaking bones.

Coincidentally, high schoolers tended to have bones.

So like, It's not a petpeeve but more like a general thought about Deku's character,,,, is that i think out of the three Todoroki and Bakugou would be the ones to more likely have the "if it makes them happy, i am fine" and if they truly didn't see much chance for them they'd try to move on. But definitely NOT Deku.

He wouldn't give up his shit for nothing imo. Not that he wouldn't accept it if there was no hope, but as long as he is capable he is going after what he wants.

Actually, i read this fic once where someone was considering telling Deku they love Baku, but decided not to bc they thought he'd give up on him just to be kind. Only for Deku to brutally tell them to back off. 😂

LMAOOOO THATS CUTE yeah i feel like itd surprise most people bc maybe . under sny other situation and if he were in love w any other person. he WOULD be the type to give up. except its kacchan and kacchan always makes deku just a little selfish so ...

oh boy im about to get absolutely destroyed but tododeku. i dont read established relationships much and i prefer lots of drama but the vibe i get from tododeku is theyd get together without much hassle so i just have no interest

13: unpopular opinion about bakugou?

ohhhh boy. i dont think theres anything i can say about him that hasnt been said before. the fandom has analyzed him to hell and back and honestly i think theyve got a pretty good grasp on his character at this point so i dont think any of my headcanons would really qualify here....

i think the biggest thing would be that i think he gets too much focus in the fandom. yeah hes the foil for the mc and hes had probably the most character growth out of everyone but there are other characters yall can obsess over smh.

also i think hes much more up front about how he feels than hes portrayed as a lot of the time. the shit he keeps to himself is either stuff hes still figuring out or stuff he feels guilty about but even in the case of the latter it comes up sooner rather than later (deku vs kacchan 2 for example). once he knows how he thinks/feels he doesnt really hide it. i think a lot of the time in fics he tends to keep things pent up or is sometimes a bit tsundere but honestly i think hes much more straightforward than that. hes not afraid of consequences because he very much believes he can overcome anything with enough effort so hes going to say what he thinks and deal with the results as they come up.

ngl though most of the fic i read is shippy stuff so this may not apply in non-romantic scenarios

10: most disliked arc? why?

the pre-ua arc. mostly because the only characters we see are all might deku and bakugou and im more invested in the dynamics of the class as a whole.

early bakugou is The Worst and while i think showing that is important in order to establish how he grows as the series goes on, its not something that i especially care to rewatch. i think looking back on cringey middle school times is always difficult for me irl or otherwise so its not really a complaint about bakugou specifically but yeah.

as for all might i frankly disagree with a lot of his views on being a hero and this is when most of them are established. every time i watch this i just want to argue with him lol

and with deku tbh im just not super a fan of him??? i think part of it is because a lot of his behavior thats emphasized in canon is stuff that i personally struggle with (his tendency to worry about others to the point that he completely neglects himself for one) and while overall i think this is something the series discourages i also want to shake him and scream at him every time he does this stuff. please value yourself small green child. (also all might encourages the self sacrificing stuff and sees it as a sign of being a True Hero and this is an excellent example of what i was talking about in the previous paragraph.)

also its always kinda bothered me that the initial couple episodes are all deku trying to become a hero without a quirk but a) hes not actually doing anything to get closer to his goal (unless you count the analysis of other heroes) like he knows he wouldnt be able to rely on a quirk but hes not even trying to figure out any more obtainable alternatives hes just saying "i want to do this thing" and then not putting any effort in until all might offers to train him. meanwhile characters who are equally committed to the same goal (bakugou and todoroki for example, although todorokis situation is complicated what with endeavor being The Worst and all) are training themselves physically in addition to strengthening their quirks. i would consider deku to be more on par with characters like kirishima who didnt commit to the hero thing until their last year of junior high but that just doesnt match up with the emphasis by both deku himself and the narrative that he has always really wanted to become a hero.

also the whole "i want to become a hero even though i dont have a quirk" thing gets resolved by him just. getting a quirk?? idk i feel like bnha toys with the idea of addressing quirkless discrimination but always just handwaves it away. like oh this character wants to do something that historically has never been achieved by someone with his disability. the resolution is that he no longer has the disability.

also in the case of touya it talks about his experience having a quirk thats incompatible with his body and how that affects him and shapes him but then it just gets kinda pushed aside by endeavors influence on the situation and instead of talking about how touya was affected by a bad home life and struggling with disability and being unable to accept his limits, it just becomes "endeavor was bad at dealing with the situation and then touya became a villain" idk it just keeps skirting around this stuff that i think is important from both a world building perspective and also applicable to actual things that irl people deal with but ultimately it just dismisses it as unimportant. like objectively saying "hey the mc is considered disabled and then in chapter three is magically no longer disabled" is a dick move. yes he struggles with adjusting but like?? the emphasis was on the disability and then it immediately just removed that factor and moved on to a New Problem (oh no the quirk is Too Awesome) (because he didnt bother to do any sort of training or anything to reach his goal until all might was in the picture)

i went on a big tangent but tldr a lot of the problems i have with bnha are especially emphasized in the first five episodes or so and because of that and my lack of interest in the characters with the most screen time (sorry deku stans) i just cant stand the "training to get into ua" arc

Crack taken seriously by me

Okay so. How do I fit all the (main) ships I saw here into one single fanfic version of WHM?

1. Todoroki, seeing that Deku n Kacchan aren't talking a whole lot right now, swoops in to shoot his shot with Deku. But suddenly he's spending a whole lotta time with Bakugou and wow, all those weird feelings from the remedial licence training are coming back. He's still hopelessly pining for Deku though. Hmmm what could it possibly mean

2. Rody didn't like Deku a lot when he first saw him (altho he was really hot, picking him up like he weighed nothing and giving him those determined eyes and damn) but now they're on a road trip and there are feelings and pasts spilling and oops looks like he's falling for him. Well then might as well accept it oh shit shirtless deku wait no he's in dekus lap and barely conscious hold up deku's hugging him?! why is this boy killing him like this

3. Deku's a bit worried about why Kacchan suddenly isn't talking so much anymore, but he doesn't have too much time to think about it. Either way, Todoroki-kun is being super reliable and awesome nowadays to make up for some of it. Just some though. And anyway, he's making a new friend! A really cute friend! Rody <3

Chapter 1. staircase.

TW: Bullying/ a little violence.

Fluff/ Hurt Comfort

Middle school Midoriya x reader

You smile as you reach your favorite place in town, it was an old staircase that leads to the street below, it wasn’t much but it was YOUR secret place, so imagine your surprise when you saw a green haired boy sitting at the bottom of the stairs.

You huffed, what was he doing here?

You begin to walk down the steps to confront him... but you stopped when you heard... crying?

He was crying, that explains why he’s here, he wanted a private place to let his emotions out, so you stopped 3 steps before him and sat down, you didn’t say anything to him, it wasn’t any of your business why he was crying anyway... right?

You take another look at him, he wore a middle school uniform and sat hugging his big yellow backpack sobbing into it, you had to admit you felt bad for just sitting there and watching him cry so you spoke, “hey are you okay?” wow what a question, of course he’s not okay, he wouldn’t be crying if he was.

The boy shot up his heaad and turned to look at you, that’s when you saw him probably, he had beautiful green eyes matching his green curls and freckles dotting his tear stained face.

“H-huh. Oh hey, yeah I’m fine” he spoke, he had a cute voice to.

“Um no you’re not” you pointed to his tearful face.

The boy sighed “you don’t need to worry about me”.

You pout “are you hurt?”

“N-no. Please you don’t need to pretend you care”.

What’s wrong with this kid? “I do care kid, it’s kinda what I do, I care about people, I go to UA, so caring is what I do” you say.

This made the boy look back up at you, “you go to UA?”

You nod “yep I’m training to be a hero”.

You look back down at the boy, he stopped crying, that’s good and he looked interested in the fact that you went to UA so... “you want to know a little about it”.

The boy let out a tiny gasp and nodded, “well come up here and I’ll tell you” you pat the place next to you.

At first he hesitated but he took in a breath and sat down.

“What’s it like?” he asked.

“Well it’s really fun. But there’s a lot of hard work”.

The boy nodded, wow, he was actually listening, so you continued “there’s alot of people with amazing quirks, a bunch of training grounds, cool teachers, bonus, they’re also pro heros”

As you explained your favorite parts of your school, his entire mood changed, his eyes were no longer spilling tears and his face began to dry.

“Whats your quirk” his voice rang out once you stopped.

“Oh my quirk? It’s nothing special” you scratch the back of your neck.

“Oh it must be if you got into UA”

You smile “Okay, well....” you stand up and stretch out your arms and roll up your sleeve of your uniform.

Then spikes began to grow out of your arms, “I can make these spikes grow out of my body, I also can make them any size I want, well as long as half my arm anyway and I can also shoot them at stuff” you turn your arm and shoot one of the spikes at a trash can, making it fall over spilling out the trash.

“Thats amazing” the boy gasped, you smiled “thanks, well I hope the owners of that trash can don’t mind there being a hole in it” you laugh.

The boy let out a little chuckle “Yeah me too”.

“So how about you?” you sit back down.

“Huh?”

“What’s your quirk?”

The boy’s eye’s widened and he shrunk back into himself “Oh, I-I-“

“You what?” you lean in closer to him, tears began to form in his eye’s again.

Your heart sinks “Oh did I say something wrong? I’m sorry”.

“Oh n-nothing its that”-

“Oi deku”!

Who said that?

You look up to see a blonde boy, he looked no older than the boy next to you, his eyes were a crimson red and a smirk that made your skin crawl, the two other boys didn’t set off a good impression either.

“Did I say you could leave?” he walked closer to you two.

“K- Kacchan, n-no I-I” the green haired boy stuttered on his words.

“Hey Bakugou careful. You might make him cry again” one of the other boys laughed.

“I don’t care, we were in the middle of a conversation and DEKU here ran off” the blonde put a hand on the greennet’s shoulder, you swore you saw smoke coming from there, was that the blonde’s quirk?

“L-look Kacchan you had your fun, pl-please leave me alone”.

The blonde narrowed his eyes before picking up the boy by his collar and slamming him back down on the steps, making him whimper in pain “Did I say you could talk back?”

Okay you had enough “Hey knock it off” you stood up and got in between the boys.

“Huh, who the hell are you?” the blonde stumbled back.

“It doesn’t matter to you. Leave this kid alone” you cross your arms.

The blonde was visually confused but his confusion was replaced with a laugh, followed by his friends.

“Hey deku. Is this your lover or something” he scoffed.

Deku, at least that’s what this boy called him.... you doubt that’s his real name, curled into him self.

“No I just met them I-“

“Wow who thought, deku, the quirkless wonder, would get a lover”

Quirkless?

“Th-thier not.. I-I” the smaller boy was so scared of this other one that he can barely talk.

You look at him, he clearly didn’t lke the presence of the blonde “hey if you like him, just let me tell you he’s nothing but a disappointment” one of the blonde’s goons spoke up.

“Hey, look i don’t know you, or him, but no one here is a disappointment” you say.

The three other boys begin to laugh “wow deku you really hooked a good one, huh?” another boy, whose quirk seemed to stretch his fingers, stepped up.

“Hey we just met and he did not hook me up” you quote using your fingers.

“Well he may have not done that, but you clearly like deku” the blonde spoke again.

“Stop calling him deku! What does that even mean?”

“U-useless” you look back at the green haired boy.

“huh?”

“Yeah tell them, tell them what a useless, quirkless little DEKU you are” the blonde yelled.

The boy looked down at his feet and let out a small sigh.

You narrow your eyes, “Would you mind going away you’re making him sad”.

The three boys began to laugh again, this was starting to piss you off.

“Oh is the crybaby deku gonna”-

A fist collided with the weird boy with the finger quirk making him fall, face first, on the pavement.

There was a sudden silence, it was so quite that you could hear the cars drive in the distance.

“It’s jerks like you that makes me want to be a hero” you point at the boy on the ground, “Making someone feel bad just because they’re different”

“What the hell? You’re insane” the blonde yelled.

“Shut up blondey- what’s your name anyway?”

“Bakugou...”

“Well Bakugou, I bet you want to go to UA and be a hero right?”

“Yeah, so what?”

“Well I go to UA and let me tell you.... with that atitude... you’ll never get in or become a hero”.

Bakugou grit his teeth, “What makes you think that i care about what you think?”

“It’s not what i think, it’s what I know”.

You step up to him, almost like a larger animal asserting dominance, it was easy since you were on a higher step than him.

He clicked his tongue “Well let’s see about that huh? Hey get up we’re leaving” he motioned to the other boy who was still on the ground.

The trio of boys walk of leaving you and the green haired boy alone... FINALLY!

“Hey are you okay?” you sit back next to him.

“Y-yeah. That was really brave, thank you” he gave a little smile.

Cute!

“Do they usually pick on you like that?”

“Y-yeah. But I’ve gotten used to it and besides I’m the one who wants to be a hero without a quirk”.

You blink, this kid has big dreams “Well I hope to see you at UA in the future”.

His eyes widened and he gasped ,”you really think I can be a hero without a quirk?”

“Well if i was in danger and had the chance to choose who saved me, I’ll rather run to you than that jerk”.

There was a sparkle in the boys eyes that you found absolutely beautiful.

“Hey. You know, we’ve been here this entire time... we don’t even know each others name”

He was right you were so focused on not pummeling that blonde basterd that you forgot to ask his name..

“I’m L/N Y/N”.

“Midoriya Izuku”

You hum “Well it’s really nice to meet you Midoriya”.

I think the interesting aspect of Deku and Bakugou's relationship is that Deku has always trusted Bakugou, and I would say more than he had forgiven him at the start of the story (where he does show more frustration and resentment towards Bakugou's behaviour and see him as a jerk) but despite that he can always trust Bakugou to him himself, attested to

the fact that Deku feels very confident about how Bakugou will act or what Bakugou's true motives are and probably the reason why he always sees Bakugou as a hero despite his hurtful behaviour is because Deku 100% trusts Bakugou even if he's doing something disagreeable or that will hurt him. Knowing someone and trusting is not exactly the same and I see it as trust because of Deku willingness to be co-operative. On Bakugou's side he is mistrustful of Deku and thats where the communication

breaks down and there has been plenty of meta exploring why Bakugou has deep rooted problems around Deku and his journey is him taking accountability of that and changing to be a better person. While understanding and miscommunication get their fair due I think trust and mistrust are the true bedrocks of the bkdk river bed because that allows for how they can still be so connected despite the miscommunication (with Bakugou mistrust is mixed with some trust) because of knowing.

anon I really enjoyed this, thank you for sharing your thoughts! I concur with just about all of this, and this ask got me thinking a lot about the nature of trust, and how it applies to Izuku and Katsuki’s relationship.

I think a lot of people’s reactions to reading the sentence “Bakugou and Deku have always trusted each other” would pretty much be, “???” and “lol what.” like, yeah, sure. they trusted each other so much that Bakugou decided that throwing a tantrum for ten years would be an appropriate reaction to Deku trying to hold his hand. classic Trust, right there!!

lol but I honestly think this is true, though. it’s just that there are different... levels?? types?? of trust. let’s go with types. there are different types of trust, and what makes Izuku and Katsuki’s relationship so interesting to me is that it’s kind of the opposite of what these fictional rival-type relationships usually are. it’s basically the difference between knowing, and understanding.

okay so first of all let’s back up here to make sure we’re all on the same page. we’re defining trust as “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone”, which is the Oxford Language definition and which works pretty well for me. you’ll note, btw, that the current relationship between Katsuki and Izuku more or less meets all four of these criteria.

reliability - both boys regard each other as dependable and are willing to rely on each other in a pinch (although Izuku is currently having some difficulty with that, but that’s another topic for another day).

truth - both are honest with each other, though not completely honest (this is the aspect that Katsuki still needs to work on, as he’s currently hiding his desire to atone).

ability - neither of them have any difficulty with this. Izuku admires Katsuki’s ability so much that he’s made it his own gold standard since childhood, and Katsuki respects Izuku’s ability enough that he made him his main rival, and never doubted that Izuku was qualified to receive OFA and become All Might’s heir.

strength - as with ability, this is another aspect of trust that neither of them has ever struggled with. in fact, a lot of their relationship struggles happened specifically because Katsuki never doubted Izuku’s strength, but feared it because he didn’t understand it.

so yeah. there’s a lot more trust between them than most people realize, I think. but the thing is that the type of trust they have is based more on knowing than understanding, and that’s where so much of their conflict stems from.

when I say knowing, I’m talking about the kind of awareness that comes from familiarity and experience. this is the type of trust that’s difficult to take shortcuts with, because it mostly just has to be accumulated over time. this is all about learning what someone is like through observing them and being around them. and it’s just as much about being known as well, because at the same time that you’re learning who the other person is, they’re learning about who you are. and that’s where trust starts to work its way in. it’s the slow unveiling of who you are, and laying it on the table piece by piece over time. and every time another little piece of you is revealed and accepted, and every time you accept one more piece of who the other person is in turn, that trust increases a little bit more. this type of trust takes a long, long time to build up, but in exchange the foundation it creates is pretty much rock-solid and nigh-indestructible.

understanding, on the other hand, to me is more instinctual. it’s about empathy and insight. and the interesting thing is that it’s possible to know someone for years upon years, and yet never truly understand them. and on the flip side, it’s also possible to understand someone within minutes of meeting them, even if you know almost nothing about them. if “knowing” is about learning who someone is, I would say that “understanding” is about learning why they are who they are. this type of trust isn’t necessarily always mutual, but it does necessitate forming a connection with someone. because empathy is such a critical component of it, it’s basically impossible to understand someone and not form an emotional connection to them in some way. this type of trust can be far more powerful and intense than the “knowing” type of trust, but the flip side is that it can sometimes be less stable and easier to break.

I think that the majority of fictional relationships, especially the ones that become really popular ships, are based more around the latter type of trust because of its intensity and unpredictability and potential for story development. the thing is, both of these types of trust are necessary for a good ship (and when I say “ship”, I’m talking about both romantic and platonic relationships just fyi). if neither type of trust is present on at least some level, then there’s really no foundation to start building up the relationship. so most of the time a ship will start out with one or the other, and then over the course of the story they'll work on building up whichever one was lacking.

and because of how stories work, the majority of the time we’re going to be dealing with characters who at first don’t know each other all that well. and so the relationships we get are ones where the characters first form some kind of emotional connection that builds understanding, and then over time they start to learn more about each other and build up that kind of trust as well. I feel like 90% of ships have this kind of dynamic. it’s the basis for things like enemies-to-lovers, fake dating AUs, and basically any kind of trope in which the characters get stuck somewhere and are forced to spend a lot of time together. it’s good, and it works.

but the fascinating thing about the relationship between Izuku and Katsuki, though, is that it’s actually the exact opposite of this. the premise of Izuku and Katsuki's story is that these are two people who’ve known each other their entire lives, but have almost no understanding of each other whatsoever. they know almost every little detail about each other, so much that they hardly even think about it. but all of their conflict is based on the fact that understanding between them is basically nonexistent.

and to me this is such an intriguing dynamic. the two of them know each other like the back of their hand. they’re familiar with the smallest habits. they can predict each other’s actions. they know how the other person thinks. and they have the kind of trust that comes with having seen the other at both their best and their worst. Katsuki is capable of letting his guard down around Izuku in a way he doesn’t do around anyone else. he cries in front of him on multiple occasions. he lets Izuku call him “Kacchan” long after their other childhood friends have stopped doing so. and even though he fears and resents Izuku’s strength early on, he also subconsciously acknowledges it in ways that even he doesn’t realize (e.g. “don’t you dare get into U.A.,” rather than “you can’t get in” or “you won’t get in”). he knows Izuku.

but he doesn’t understand Izuku. he knows who he is, but he doesn’t understand why. he knows that Izuku is strong, but he can't wrap his head around the nature of that strength. and because he lacks that understanding, this vital aspect of the trust between them is lacking, and is all too easily broken when Katsuki falls into the creek and Izuku tries to offer his help. Katsuki knows that Izuku is a good person, but he doesn’t understand that goodness, that selflessness, and so he’s mistrustful of it.

on the flip side of the coin, however, Izuku has the utmost faith in Katsuki. to him, Katsuki is the strongest, smartest, most capable and most amazing person in the world (aside from All Might). and Izuku, unlike Katsuki, actually does understand his childhood friend at least a little bit. he understands Katsuki’s reasons for wanting to be a hero. he understands that Katsuki is not just mindlessly pursuing strength. he understands that Katsuki’s motivation is about overcoming obstacles and beating challenges. and most importantly, he understands that Katsuki, in spite of everything he’s said and done to Izuku over the years, is fundamentally a good person.

and this is crucial. because, along with the bond of familiarity they’ve built up together over the years, it’s this other, one-sided bond of understanding that is responsible for their relationship enduring for as long as it did despite everything. as you put it, anon, Izuku’s trust is ultimately what becomes the bridge between them. on some level, he trusts in Katsuki’s innate goodness. he believes in it in spite of all of Katsuki’s attempts to persuade him otherwise. e.g. when Katsuki suggests that he go jump off the roof, Izuku is hurt by the words, but he never once takes them to heart, because he knows on some instinctive level that Katsuki doesn’t mean them. and so he grumbles to himself about Katsuki needing to think before he speaks, but aside from that he never gives the words another thought.

Katsuki would no doubt consider this yet another example of Izuku not caring enough about himself or taking himself into account. but it really is more than that. the reason the words don’t cut deep in spite of them being vicious and well-targeted is simply because Izuku knows that Katsuki isn't truly that cruel. and he knows that on a level so deep that Katsuki is never able to break it despite his best efforts. he can’t break it, because there’s nothing to break, because it’s true. the reason the relationship endures in spite of everything is because deep down Katsuki is fundamentally a good person, and so Izuku’s trust, in the end, is based on truth. and so it never fully breaks, and eventually, it becomes reciprocated.

and that’s what their story is all about. it’s two people that have known each other their entire lives, but have to work in order to build their understanding of each other. unlike many ships, they start off already having that foundation of knowing and being known, and so their story instead is about forging that connection of empathy and insight. and it doesn’t come easily to them at all. but they keep at it.

anyway, so thank you again for sharing your thoughts on this, anon. I didn’t even get into the topic of forgiveness, but I agree with you about it being a process of letting go of negative feelings and resentment. I also agree that forgiveness is a separate thing from trust, but I do think trust plays a big part in one’s decision to forgive or not forgive. it's a lot easier to forgive if you have an understanding of the other person’s actions. and it’s also far, far easier to forgive if the offender’s actions are long in the past. and because the latter is now true in Katsuki’s case, that shows a pattern of him learning from his mistakes and not repeating them. which further builds trust, especially in the “reliability” department. and so even though forgiveness and trust are two separate things, they’re still connected. and in many ways, by working to rebuild the understanding between him and Izuku, Katsuki is also working towards earning Izuku’s forgiveness, even though that’s ultimately something that can never truly be earned, but can only be granted.

I’m not sure if I’m really making my point very clear here lol, but basically what I’m trying to say is that while the relationship may have once been one-sided in this aspect, it’s not anymore. it’s mutual, and they’re both putting the work in. and Katsuki is also doing his part without any guarantee or expectation of forgiveness on Izuku’s end. it’s unconditional. he’s doing it because he wants to atone. and he’ll continue to do it whether he’s forgiven or not. and that’s important. it’s important because it shows that the relationship has value to both of them. and it’s important because neither of them wants to lose it. they want to fix it; they want to make it stronger.

and ultimately what that means is that the relationship will continue to endure, despite their ups and downs. because even though it may have started out as something incidental -- two boys who just happened to become friends because they spent a lot of time together as children -- it’s not, anymore. it’s no longer just something that happened, something that just accidentally came together. it’s something that they’re both working to build. they want to trust each other. they want to understand one another. their relationship is no longer something that simply withstood and persisted -- it’s something that is now being nurtured. and you love to see it.

so let's see, how do I even begin to tl;dr this post lol. something something blah blah blah trust, understanding, childhood friends, knowing someone, having faith in someone, being the recipient of that faith, and working to become worthy of it. they're very confused, but they care about each other a lot, and they are good boys.

BKDK - Highschool Romantics Headcanons

LOVE ME some good old fashioned highschool romance shenanigans so as per my brand, lets make it bkdk!! bc tbh i havent made a hc list in a while

its second year highschool! things have calmed down significantly and for class 1-A this means that its time to celebrate their teenage years like they werent able to before

this means more movie nights--more days they get to spend having fun and being regular kids like they shouldve always been

meanwhile bkdk? after confessions and apologies made on bloody battlefields and quiet hospitals at the dead of night... its almost comical how cheesy they are

deku sneaks up on kacchan during lunchbreaks, dragging him to the training fields where he serenades him with a guitar and laughs as a small crowd of their schoolmates whoop in glee

he sings songs of youthful love and friendship, awkward voice smoothing into something beautiful and charming

in return, katsuki learns new songs. he learns to draw and to play the drums even better--living for that shocked little smile when he draws doodles of deku and dedicates especially sappy songs to him during their monthly school jamming session

they arent together at this point, technically. no one knows what they are. no one can begin to label what they have either.

but its definitely good.

its bright and its beautiful and its loud, so theyll protect it with their eyes wide open but in the meantime class 1A just sits back and watches the twin stars of UA unravel like leaves in the cool mornings of fall

they go everywhere together, always holding hands. bakugou and deku have promise rings, little matching all might insignias glinting in the sun

they won those in an arcade somewhere. no one knows what the promise is, and no one really bothers to ask

katsuki really likes lending izuku his jackets. its nothing he says outright, just the fact that he's always ready—always one arm out of its sleeve—to bundle his sweaters and drop it into the lap of the unsuspecting nerd.

"geez, is it just me or is it really co—" *flop*

sometimes kirishima worries about his best friends allowance at the rate in which he has to replace all his jackets

they brawl in the hallways, rough house on the train station, cuddle when its cold and the common room is filled with people and light

deku often likes to surprise katsuki with little gifts. he sneaks spicy candies into the other boy's backpack between classes, slips giftcards and notes of appreciation between the pages of katsuki's textbooks

in return, as he does with everything, katsuki goes big. sometimes he surprises deku with a giant teddy bear, or soft hoodies that remind him of the other. he'll get the whole bakusquad in on it and fill the hallways in the morning with encouraging yells and loud boisterous laughter

sometimes, obviously, they'll still mess up. They're still teenagers, still human.

Deku will sometimes not say things that he should and Kacchan will sometimes say things he doesn't mean.

they'll fight and yell and unsettle the dorms with how charged the air becomes. sometimes Aizawa's worried they'll go back to ground beta and increase the hero course's already abysmal annual repair budget again like they used to do when they were stressed and repressed and each other obsessed

but then bakugou will sneak into dekus balcony at the dead of night, like some sort of delinquent trying to visit their goody two shoes lover at the risk of running into their shotgun father

(which in this case, bakugou supposes, would be uraraka--the metaphorical shotgun being a very tired todoroki)

and he'll knock on the window gently, trying not to smile as izuku opens the window and rubs the sleep from his eyes.

"ka... cchan?"

katsuki lets himself smirk at last and tells deku theyre sneaking out.

phrases it like a taboo secret, even as aizawa watches from the security footage room exasperated but also kind of relieved because of all things his class has gone through, a little midnight tryst is the least dangerous of them all. its not even close to the biggest secret deku's ever had, and by god he has plenty.

but he stifles his giggles into the palm of his hand and watches as bakugou precariously sits on the metal railing, clothes a mess and leaves still stuck in his hair

"Our little secret, okay?" Kacchan jokes, red eyes glimmering with something raw and perfect. "Don't tell your dad about me."

Izuku rolls his eyes and reminds him that All Might isn't actually his father, god Kacchan! You've met my real dad!

Yet still, he lets it pass.

And then, oh so carefully yet recklessly as if they weren't the most powerful duo of their generation, katsuki reaches out and slips deku's hands in his and takes him away

takes him to a beach (Dagobah, because of course it is) in the middle of the night, the stars brighter than theyve ever been because everything looks different when youre young and in love

they lay in the sand and listen to the waves and some weird beat thats been stuck in Izuku's head. Bakugou turns to watch his eyelashes flutter against freckled cheeks and holds out a pinky.

"I'm sorry. By the way. I didn't mean what I said and I want you to be happy."

Izuku hums and they talk it out. Eventually the other boy holds his pinky out too and they link together like pieces of a puzzle.

Under the stars, the two of them make a million promises. Promises that they know they'll break, promises that they know they won't, promises that leave them uncertain and guessing.

"—but you promise, though. Right? You promise that we'll still be by each other? Us against the world forever and ever even after this. Even when we grow old?"

Their pinkies stay linked together and the two boys know for sure that it's one of those highschool promises that they will keep forever.

Deku stares into pretty red eyes that remind him of juicy apples and warm bonfires beside friends who never run out of stories to tell

Katsuki stares back into clear green eyes that remind him of calming tea and lush grass he lays down on in the familiar heat of a summer afternoon

they just. stare. stare and stare and stare and maybe, they begin to think

maybe in those eyes, i can see our future.

Shoto tenses ever so slightly, and Bakugo pulls his head from his pillow. Izuku opens his mouth to backtrack, but Shoto speaks before he can.

“Dabi—or Touya, I guess I should call him, gave me a call. I don't know how he got my number,” Shoto answers, voice carefully blank. Izuku can hear the shakiness still. “It- freaked me out. “The whole night, actually,” Shoto says, sounding ever-so-slightly happy to stop talking about his trainwreck of a home life. “If I'm quiet.”

“Which you're failing at,” Bakugo grumbles.

Izuku turns to him. He wants to ask why Bakugo was awake but thinks he already knows why. It's the same reason he and Momo stayed up so late. Nightmares. “That was really nice of you, Kacchan.”

I’m so glad adjoining is getting some love! I may have missed a post regarding this, but we also got some insight to his character in the Training Camp arc. He incredibly loyal and selfless, and we also have that hero exam arc as well to show for it when he was with his team. I think in one of the movies he also had his time to shine helping the twins taking damage. He is so underrated, I wonder if he and Spinner will ever interact?

Something I noticed with the Training Camp arc is that he is loyal and selfless, like you said (the whole sacrificing one of his root arms thing and this line)

But he also like. offers a choice to Izuku

He's not like "Okay we gotta deal with Tokoyami first and then we need to find Bakugou", he's just like "Listen I know the only reason you're still going is that you're running on adrenaline, eager to save your friend, but do you have enough energy to help me with Tokoyami first or would you rather go straight to Bakugou? Like I can handle Tokoyami but your help would be cool too. Your choice."

In a dire situation, he still offers an option. I think that alone shows how accepting he is, how flexible he is for other people's needs. He gives attention to the little things, little things that others may deem unnecessary in such situations, and thats really cool to notice actually

I also find it funny because here's Izuku, barely able to move, and Shouji gives this choice - will you help me with Tokoyami or go to Bakugou? - and Izuku is like "BOTH!" and Shouji is completely just like "Aight bet" and helps with both

Izuku is out here like "Okay use your root arms as bait and we'll just like. lead Tokoyami into Kacchan, two birds one stone, trust me on this" and Shouji - wonderful, flexible, accepting Shouji - goes along with it!

That, again, shows how well he can accommodate to a situation. Even accepting of a plan like Izuku's because it solves both issues at the same time (helps with their problem with Tokoyami and protecting Bakugou)

The Hero Exam (I assume you mean the Joint Arc) had some good moments with him too, and a little reveal of his thoughts about himself

"I'm not stranger to being feared." Shouji tell us your past what have you been through, don't just leave us with this

But also that has to be one of the reasons why he's so accepting of people - he knows what it's like to be feared, even just by looks. Makes me think he could get along with anyone and offer a kind hand to them, from the most "horrifying-looking" heteromorph to even people like Twice, who wasn't a heteromorph but was definitely looked down on because of how he looked

Also I like this moment here. Idk why, but it feels kind of the same as Bakugou vs Uraraka - not that Pony was ever expected to be treated nicely during training or a fight, but Shouji didn't seem to expect her to be so strong

Maybe because he thought horns wouldn't have as much strength to them compared to his thick skin? Anyway, it feels like when he noticed this, he was on high alert and went all in with her. I think he expected Pony to be stubborn, that whether her quirk was weak or strong she would still put up a fight, but didn't anticipate her strength being what it was

I also noticed this

Which is a bit of a pattern with Shouji. He did the same thing in Training Camp - a sort of "I can deal with this on my own, you go ahead" type of thing. He's not afraid to hang back while others achieve what needs to be done. It's obvious, considering his character, but I'll say it anyway; he seems to be the type of person who's fine with being in the background, fine with second place, so to speak, if it achieves overall victory. Like, he'll let others do the winning if it means an overall win

Also, there's the whole Needs thing again; insisting Ojiro go to Shouto cuz he needs his help right now. Kid's got his priorities straight

As for Heroes Rising, I think I know which scene you mean, though he was so good at protecting those kids throughout the entire movie, it really shows here too

Look at him trying to run, holding his ground, putting the kids before himself. Even when one of the blasts hits him so hard that he accidentally drops the kids, he still uses himself as a shield

(this was already a great movie but I'd honestly rewatch it just to see Shouji stand his ground and protect those kids again)

I really hope he and Spinner interact, it'd be cool to compare both Spinner's experiences/thoughts vs Shouji's experiences/thoughts on heteromorphs and such, and the way they go about change in the system (again, the change Shouji seems to want only being based off the 3 scenes I analyzed in that one post I made - nothing has actually been said in canon but that's the vibe I get off of him)

He honestly is so underrated, I'd love for him to have more screen time. Whatever focus Hori gives him in the future, I'll just be glad to get more info on him
