Pam appreciation post!! She’s Lola’s mellowed out girlfriend who can often be found relaxing in bodies of water. She’s the most chill person you would ever meet!!

Are there also anthro fish?

Yes, absolutely! Anthro fish and marine/aquatic life are very much prevalent in this universe! Some of my main characters are aquatic creatures, though I have yet to introduce them and post art of them. Takoyaki and Chad are among the main characters, and there are quite a few other students and professors who are also marine creatures. This university is also very inclusive, with a lot of aquatic-friendly infrastructure put into place for those who can't walk on land or stay out of the water for long periods of time, along with many places that have water for quick hydration.

The ocean is divided by five layers that divide the depths and categorize their respective inhabitants. In order from the upper most layer to the deepest of the depths, the layers are: the Sunshine Belt, the Twilight Zone, the Midnight Sector, the Abyssal Realm, and the Trenches. The deeper you go, the less evolved the creatures are, as they have little to no connection with life and civilization on land and have had no need to evolve. While there are some inhabitants from the deep that have evolved like those on the surface had, they are very rare in the depths and require specific care and attention if they desire to ascend. There are a few folk from the Twilight Zone at GTI, but they are only a few in numbers.

How did Rain and Leif meet?

Leif and Rain met shortly before the start of their first semester as freshmen! They were moving into their dorm and getting settled down, but spent the majority of their day differently.

Leif had spent a better chunk of the day exploring the new world, as he left his home in a secluded lake to pursue a career as a marine biologist. He had gone from being surrounded by other axolotls and eating worms to being surrounded in the most diverse environment he's ever been, with the widest selection of food within reach. Despite his excitement, he couldn't shake the feeling of loneliness off; he had always planned to experience the outside world with his girlfriend, but he broke up with her after a bitter betrayal. He decided to head back to his dorm to rest up.

Rain, while feeling glad about reuniting with her childhood best friend and leaving her toxic high school, still had a lot of stress weighing on her. She politely declined Lola's invite to a get together and she decided to take a stroll that evening. She found a tree nearby and climbed up, sitting there for a moment before her emotions had overwhelmed her.

Leif was walking by when he heard some strange noises. It seemed to be coming from a tree. When he called out to it, he was surprised when a tiny glass frog person had fallen out into the bushes below! Rain was completely mortified, but ultimately let Leif help her up. She was too embarrassed to speak, but Leif was kind enough to invite her for ice cream since she could use some cheering up. Rain wasn't sure if she could trust him, but she went along with it since she had no idea what to do next.

They ate their ice cream at the dining hall and Leif walked her back to her dorm. Even with hardly any conversation, Leif could tell that Rain's mood had improved slightly. Rain was still quite bewildered at the random kind gesture from a stranger, but it stuck with her for the next week or so. That is, until she saw Leif again when she started her physical education class. She approached him and thanked him for being so kind, and they properly introduced themselves to each other!

Are there any more axolotl characters?

Yes, absolutely! I will say, Leif is the main (and really the only) axolotl character in GTI. The only other one who pops up is Leif's ex-girlfriend, Shelly, and she's more of a minor character.

Axolotls are still a rarity in this universe and the majority of their population is condensed in a secluded lake. Children and teenagers, are raised and educated in a large boarding school and the adults take on jobs that support their community, ie worm farming, architecture, security, etc. Axolotl children see their parents on the weekend and get to spend time with them! However, a lot of axolotl children are orphans, Leif and Shelly are some of them.

Tell us more about Lola and Rain's relationship!

Lola and Rain knew each other since they were little froglets living in the rainforest! Rain met Lola one day when she was going with her father to the treetop markets to exchange goods when she heard a strange commotion in the distance. It turns out a froglet had fallen from some branches above! They went to check on her and she only appeared to have some minor injuries. Rain helped her father bandage her up and heal her scrapes, and that was the start of their friendship!

When they grew into their teens, Rain left her home to pursue a medical career. Lola shortly left home as well, more so to grow independent from her family. They grew apart a little but still kept in touch through letters they'd send each other. Eventually, Lola enrolled at GTI and recommended it to Rain when she was close to graduating high school, and she ended up applying and getting accepted. They made arrangements to be roommates the following semester and have been reunited! They frequently hang out with their new circle of friends :]
