Prince Huang Renjun of China, the most beloved prince that’s ever lived

Since the moment he was born he was seen as a miracle by everyone in the castle

Let's rewind about 18 years, back when the king and queen were in their late 20s and were hoping to soon have a child.

The king and queen treated everyone that worked in the castle as family so everyone was incredibly happy and there were no secrets within the castle.

The king and queen were in their late 20s when they decided they wanted to have a child. Though unfortunately, they would come to find it wasn’t a possibility.

When the royal doctor visited the queen and king to let them know about the possible health risks their child could have due to both health histories.

They were both excited to hear about how healthy their future prince would be but were soon uneasy when they noticed the doctors somber look as he entered the throne room.

“What’s wrong?” The queen asked with a serious yes somehow frozen look on her face, “what is the kid gonna have asthma? it’s really no problem, he’s not gonna get picked on he’s a royal” The king said trying to lighten the mood, garnering a smile from the queen as he squeezed her hand.

“I’m so sorry,” the doctor said as he told the king and queen the unfortunate news. The queen was infertile and wouldn’t be able to have any kids.

For months everyone in the castle was in deep grief over the news. Two people who loved each other so much wouldn’t be able to have a child, the one thing they wanted most.

And worst of all, they’d have to renounce the throne to an incredibly rude and greedy family.

A few months later on the queens birthday, she shut herself off. She had been so sad over the news she didn’t want a celebration.

Everyone in the castle was grieving for her. The nurses and maids offered her food and drinks, though she refused them.

But before bed, the queen called out saying that she was in pain and needed assistance.

The nurses, being overprotective of her, took her into the nursery and decided to run tests even though she insisted it wasn’t they serious.

When the results came back all the nurses and maids gathered into the infirmary with suspicious looks on their faces.

“What is it?” The queen asked with a nervous smile, “I’m not dying am I?” Suddenly the king bathed in.

“Is it true?” He demanded, “well?” She said looking around, “sweetie,” said the queen getting up from her seated position, “what’s going on?” Everyone stayed silent “someone answer me.” She demanded.

The king approached her slowly, his eyes watering as he held her face and looked at her with a sparkle in his eyes, “you’re pregnant, we’re having a baby”

Fast forward about five years.

Prince Renjun was adored by everyone in the castle. From the moment he was born he was showered with love and affection.

Every maid squished his cheeks whenever they saw him and every guard left their post to help him get around the castle.

It was around when jun had just turned 5 and decided for his birthday he would get up early and roll himself out of bed because, and I quote, “I’ve never been around this big castle by myself and wanted to know what it was like.”

Cue everyone swooning over how cute he sounded speaking so eloquently at such a young age

And on that same day, one of his favorite guards and his fathers closest friend gave him a watercolor set. “You have a very artistic soul, maybe one day you’ll create great murals.” He said.

This very moment stayed with jun for a very long time.

Ever since his fifth birthday, he hadn’t been able to find any other hobby. The scent of paint became his room’s signature smell.

He ended up having a real knack for art to the point where the king and queen invited the most esteemed artists in the kingdom to teach Renjun further.

Now let’s fast forward 13 years; the present! (or past depending on when you’re reading this, it’s currently 2018)

Renjun was newly 18 years old and was now soon to take the throne, but was he terrified

Imagine being told that at the age of 18 you have to run an entire country, he couldn’t comprehend the notion.

He’s ready of course, he’s been ready. He was ready when he was 12 he was ready when he was 15 and he’s ready now.

But he doesn’t want to. There’s so much out there, a big world to explore and he won’t be able to yet.

And, he hasn’t fallen in love.

Growing up he watched a lot of romantic comedies with his mom because he wanted to watch what she liked, and he always wanted a love like that.

“Momma,” he asked when he was 7 and watching Boy Meets World, “how did you and dad fall in love?”

She looked at his incredible surprised but smiled and started caressing his face, “your father always made me smile, even when I was crying my eyes out he could make me smile. whenever I was with him, I felt safe. despite him and I having a lot of things that were different about us, we were still able to love each other.”

That stayed with him.

One night, on Jun’s weekly getaway, to see his close friends who were all knights in training, he took a different route than usual. Instead of going through the left side of the palace stairs on his way down, which were closer to knights quarters outside, he went down a long corridor and took the spiral stairs on the right on his way down which was near the queen’s suite.

He wanted to catch his mom up on the new watercolor technique he had learned about.

this is where you come in.

you see, your mom has been the queen’s ladies maid since before you were born, and because the queen was so thankful for everything your mother had done she sent you to the best school in the entire kingdom so you could get the best education possible. You were beyond thankful for the queen’s kindness.

Though school was out for the summer and you decided you’d rather stay with your mom over the summer than do any program at school over the summer. Tonight your mother wasn’t feeling well so you decided to take over her duties of attending to her royal majesty, though she insisted you called her auntie.

The queen was incredibly relaxed, as you expected. She didn't really ask for much, just getting her coffee while writing new reforms to be implemented before her reign would end, and taking in the nightly reviews from the knights every hour on the hour.

It was nearing 10 o’clock and the queen was soon going to go to sleep so you changed from your more formal clothes that you were informed by your mom to wear when you were accompanying the queen to your casual attire. You were just about to say goodnight to the queen when you saw a young boy was approaching from down the hall.

As the boy came closer and stepped more into the light you were able to take in all of his features. He was short black hair which covered his eyes a bit, skin as clear as day and beautiful eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, a confused look on his face as he noticed you but you spoke first, “The queen is to sleep soon and she already received her nightly review so you can go back to your quarters.” You said.

‘Quarters? Nightly review?’ he wondered. “Oh, you must think-” “it’s okay! She's really tired anyways so you can go, enjoy the rest of your night.” you smiled at him softly before getting your bag from the chair and walking past him to go home.

Renjun’s head followed you as you turned away. A look of total bewilderedness on his face as he was trying to figure out how it was possible that you didn’t know who you were, and how he had never seen you before.

He sighed trying to remember why he was there in the first place before it rushed back to him and he knocked on his mother's door, “momma?” he said softly.

“Junnie, come in sweetie,” she said loudly in order for him to be heard through the thick walls. As he entered he saw the queen sitting on her bed with a big smile as she spotted Renjun, ‘Junnie, did you meet y/n?” ‘y/n’ he thought to himself, “Uh yeah, I was just about to ask, who was that I've never seen her before.” “Junnie, that's my lady's maid’s daughter.” “Oh, that's cool, she's pretty.” “She’s around your age sweetie, I can give her your number if you think she's so pretty.” The queen said with a cheeky smile as she poked Renjun’s side. “Moooooooooooooom” he groaned.

Their conversation concluded with the queen giving Renjun a kiss on the forehead and telling him to not make any stupid decisions when he was out with his friends.

As he made his way to the knights in training quarters he couldn’t get you out of his head. “How could she not know me? Does she live under a rock? Was it dark? Maybe cause it was dark.”

He finally approached the quarters and knocked on the door awaiting a response from the boys who suddenly got very quiet. As the door opened, instead of being greeted normally, Renjun got a pillow to the face and was pulled into the quarters.

Soon the boys were devouring pizza and catching each other up on all of their recent embarrassments. One highlight of the night was Mark telling the boys how he fell on his face during training when he had to go through an obstacle course. But not only that, all of the lady’s maids in training saw it happen. Needless to say, Mark wouldn’t be getting any dates anytime soon

“What’s with you, Jun?” Jaemin said as put his hand over Renjun’s forehead, “Ah boys, Doctor Jaemin knows what’s wrong”

“What are you talking about Jaemin?” “You’re lovesick.”

Renjun groaned, “shut up jaemin.” “Could it be perhaps a certain girl named y/n?” he said with a sly smile. “Shut UP jaemin.” Though jaemin persisted, “Really cause I saw you talking to her not too long ago.”

“Creepy much” Jeno said from the other side of the room as all the other boys’ gazes were fixed on Renjun. Jaemin scoffed at Jeno’s comment, replying, “Not creepy, I was on my way to give the queen her nightly review. So Renjun, you think y/n’s cute?”

“Jaemin I don’t even know her.” Renjun said trying to ignore Jaemin’s regular tomfoolery “But you’re thinking about her.”

Jaemin wasn’t wrong. Renjun couldn’t couldn’t get you out his head. Mainly because he was so surprised that you didn’t know who he was. Although, he would be lying if he said he didn’t think you were cute. He hadn’t thought about it much until Jaemin brought it up. But the more he thought about it, the more he realized you were really cute.

“Whatever jaemin.” Renjun spoke as his cheeks began to heat up slightly though he wasn’t aware how visible it was.”

“Geez Renjun, you talk to a girl once and suddenly you’re in love.” Jisung teased, earning a laugh from jeno and chenle.

“Well,” Jaemin said standing up dusting off his pants, “It’s a bit hot in here, I'm gonna get some fresh air. You want to come Jun?” Renjun’s eyes darted up as he snapped out of his daze, “What? Oh uh yeah sure.”

The two boys made their way outside and began to roam around the outside of the castle, “You know,” Jaemin said, “Y/n’s my friend. I could talk to her for you if you want. You know, since you’re incapable of talking to any girl that isn’t your mom.” Renjun looked up with an offended face as Jaemin laughed.

“I can talk to girls,” Renjun muttered under his breath. “Is that so?” Jaemin asked. “Yeah!” Renjun said. “Theres y/n, go talk to her. Hey, y/n!” Jaemin shouted as he pushed Renjun your direction.

“Hey, you’re the knight from earlier.” You said with a smile. Did he get cuter? “hehe yeah that's me,” he said trying to be at least awkward as possible “Oh actually,” he said as he fiddled with his hands, “I’m not a knight.”

You were unsure of what he meant before soon realizing, “oooh,” you said out loud. “I don’t know how I didn't guess it sooner, you have your moms eyes.”

“Hey, I know this is like really random but Jaemin will actually never let me live it down if I don't ask and you don't have to say yes or anything at all-”

“Renjun,” you said.

“Yeah?” He asked as you stepped closer, “You’re rambling.”

He let out a nervous sigh before taking in a deep breath, “My bad. Well, what I was going to say was, could I, uh, maybe get your number?” As he said this, his eyes were focused on the ground and his left hand rubbed the nape of his neck. You smiled at his actions before stepping closer and handing him your phone, “Of course, text me tomorrow yeah? It's getting kinda late. Goodnight.” And like that, as soon as he put his number in your phone and vice versa you walk off to wherever it is you were going.

From that night on Renjun texted you every single day at any moment he could after he finally mustered up enough confidence to do so. “Good morning cutie :~)” “good afternoon cutie :~)” “I saw a rose and it reminded me of you :~)”

It took about two days of texting before he asked you out on a date. And only a month after that before he asked you to be his girlfriend.

You two were great together. Whenever you two were around one another there would be incredibly loud laughter. That is if there wasn't already. Even though outside the castle you had to keep your relationship under wraps and he was incredibly busy with all of his coronation practice, he still made time for you.

You had been dating for a few months when Renjun asked you to meet him in the throne room for your anniversary surprise.

As you entered the big room you were surprised to find just Renjun standing alone in the center of the room. He wore, fitted dress pants, a button up and formal jacket whose sleeves were both rolled up. “Hello beautiful,” He smiled brightly as he saw you, his arms wide as he embraced you tightly and gave you a kiss on the cheek. He then intertwined his hands with yours as he took you out to the balcony which overlooked the entire kingdom.

“I still can’t believe you’re gonna be the king, it’s crazy. It feels like just yesterday I didn't even know you were the prince.” You said earning a smile from Renjun. “Actually,” He said, “That's exactly what I wanted to talk about.” “Yeah?” You asked.

Renjun held your face and kissed you gently, softly moving his lips against yours before parting, “You make me happier than I’ve ever been. You’re not like other girls who have only wanted to be with me because I was a prince, hell you didn’t even react when you found out I was. You make me smile when I don't think its possible for me to be able to and despite how busy I get and secretive our relationship has to be, you've never given up on me. I was entranced by your diamond eyes, but i fell in love with your golden heart. We may be young but I know what I feel. Every king needs his queen so Y/n,” He said as he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring from his jacket pocket “Will you be my queen?”

lovesick!renjun

i started writing this without a specific member in mind but thanks to vic i decided it would be nct dream’s soft bb jun :)

so this kid doesn’t pay attention in class

rather he stares out the window

a lot

it’s his pastime during school hours

cause he’s secretly the top of his class so he doesn’t feel the need to pay attention

So on a regular day of class he walks in, sits down and just stares out the window

His chin resting on his left palm as his right hand ghost writes with a pen

honestly looking out the window is something he looks forward to

he really loves it

admiring the scenery is so fun

examining the details of the flower petals and tree branches from a distance

looking at the people coming and going

the people who have different stories and who live their lives so differently than one another

he likes to make up stories about each of them

“She’s going to confess to the love of her life today. Good luck floral blouse girl :~)”

“He’s gonna get a puppy named chocolate chip with his girlfriend today”

“that old man takes different flowers to his wife every Saturday since they started dating over 40 years ago”

“Those girls are secretly in love with each other”

he’s a hopeless romantic (duh)

looking out the window serves as an escape into his love wonderland

And it got to the point where he doesn’t focus at all

so much so much that the teachers started to sit him away from the windows so that he won’t look out the window

And he’s so hurt he offended

You best believe jeno and Jaemin get and earful at lunch

“Can you believe Mr. Lee did this?! I’m the best in class and he does THIS?”

“You’re being dramatic” jeno says rolling his eyes as he stuffs food into his mouth

“what will i do now?” Renjun says with a look of impending doom plastered on his face

“Just stare at something else” jaemin tells him

He just huffs the really cute way he does “Ugh fine I guess”

He needs to stare at SOMETHING

And that becomes his mission for the next week

so for the first time in months he actually looks around the class and notices how many people there are

and just at that very moment that he’s overcome with such surprise that there are many people you happened to walk in and sit down

right in front of him

looks like he found something else to stare at

it all happened so naturally

it was destiny

he was convinced of it.

when you noticed him you smiled at him then sat down

At the sight for your soft smile his cheeks instantly turn crimson

he thinks you’re the most ethereal being in the world

he stares at the back of your head in awe

“I can’t believe I missed out on seeing you” the though to himself

“Huh?” You said turning around a soft smile still on your face

the moment you turn around blood rushes to his cheeks

“W-what?” He asks, his eyes slightly wide

“You said something” you said cheerily, “I just didn’t hear you very well”

“Oh, um I didn’t mean to say anything”

“Oh alright” you say, “you’re Renjun right?” You ask

“What? Oh uh yeah yes” he says with just a nervous smile

you just giggle cause you think that’s really cute

and unbeknownst to you, you’re oblivious that he’s into you

he’s way too shy to actually talk to you at first

and how does one get the attention of the person they like?

purposefully drop your pencil so the can pick it up for you!

It’s the intelectual thing to do ofc

He drops his pencil like every day

and somehow it’s always right by your feet

you always pick it up duh cause you assume he’s clumsy and every time you give it to him he has the softest cutest smile

He also asks you for help often and acts rather clueless

Despite being incredibly smart

Every single day at lunch he gushes about you to the boys

“Their smile, oh my GOD their smile is so beautiful.”

“They’re walking sunshine, I actually got a tan when she looked at me.”

Cue all of the boys rolling their eyes

“Why don’t you just ask her to sit with us already”

And I swear they saw an actual light bulb turn on over his head

“Brilliant! Why didn’t i think of that?”

Maybe cause he doesn’t think of anything other than your smile

and so later that day he asks you if he can join you for lunch

Because of course he’s not going to invite you to their table and allow the boys to embarrass the crap out of him

you say yes, of course

the whole time you to get to know each other he just falls way deeper for you

Because you’re so passionate and driven and wow you’re really pretty when you smile

If he wasn’t lovesick before, he sure as hell is now

He wants to spend even more time with you

He asks if he can join you again tomorrow

and the day after that

eventually it turns into a routine that you and he just eat lunch with each other

On the off chance that jun is absent it’s so lonely because who will you talk to? Who’s going to pass you doodles in English??

you best believe the dreamies tease you guys every chance they can

“Are you guys dating?” and “you guys are so cute together”

Both you blush SO HARD

because you’re both so head over heals for one another

and you’re both clueless

and one day at lunch you’re both sharing a slice of chocolate cake he got making fun of one another as usual

He says something and you laugh at his nerd ass

just looking at your smile he gets this look of total infatuation

You look you at him really confused because you’ve never seen him look at you this way

He does it all the time you just never notice

“what? Do I have a chocolate chip in my teeth?”

It takes him a few seconds before he says “you’re so beautiful” really softly

you just look at him with widened eyes and your mouth completely shut.

he smiles again and moves at little closer to you, “hey,” he says in a barely audible tone

“Hey” you say back with a smile that you only ever have when he’s around

“Can I tell you something?” He says

“uh yeah yeah sure”

at this point you guys are inches away

“I really like you, I can’t get you out of my head”

His gaze never breaks yours for a second

“You’re all I think about” you say back without thinking

And before you know it, his hands have intertwined with yours and his lips are pressed against your cheek

“can I be yours?” He asks looking down at your hands, his thumb rubbing circles into your hand

You examine every detail of his face before answering

The curve of his lips and nose. the way his pink cheeks glow. His eyes that rival the stars.

“Of course” you say kissing his cheeks back

he acts very cool on the outside

But he’s freaking out on the inside and losing his mind

You two are incredibly happy together :~)

eventually after a few weeks of dating he tells you about how he only asked for help cause he wanted to talk to you

“uh no duh Mr. top-of-our-class”
