Just a #tbt memory collage since today is Father's Day~ My father doesn't appear in my feed or post as much as my mom, but both of them are equally loved and are two of the most important people in my life. One of the main reasons he is not as present in photos is because he is usually the one that takes photos in the family. Needless to say, this makes a huge influence on me growing up since that is how I got to know photography at the first place~ He is a good friend and the biggest supporter later on in my life even though we can't see each other that often: he's the first one I came out to in my family, and he is the one that helped me come out to my mom and persuade her to accept it; he is the first one that encourages me to take the chance and pursue my dream as a photographer, and he started to help and support me as much as he can ever since. Just some thoughts after today's march: I've been to so many marches and rallies in the city since I started to document with my photographs, and this is definitely the biggest and most loving one I participated so far. From the subway to the street, the vibe is strong: we stand together to fight for something we all believe in and cherish. Yes, this period of time is a difficult one, yet it does bring us together. This march shows once again how powerful people can be when we come together and unite. radical softness as a weapon, Lora Mathis (2015) radical softness is the idea that sharing your emotions is a political move & a tactic against a society which prioritizes a lack of emotions. strength does not have to mean turning off how you feel and being guarded. it can be sharing yourself openly. it can be putting energy into healing. it can be documenting your vulnerability in-order to make others feel less alone. it can be refusing to be sorry for how you feel. radical softness combats the toxic masculinity which permeates our culture and embraces softness and emotionality-however they may look.
