As an equestrian I do indeed do that! Here is my somewhat qualified if questionable assessment (I apologize in advance for my English):

• Hiccup rides Toothless like a jockey, down to the form, he also gets into what we (here at least) refer to as “jumping position” whenever he does a trick or, more speedy manurer.

• Astrid and stormy are like a western style rider and horse fused with that of a regular jockey, the kind you’d see in rodeo’s most likely, but the style she uses is also similar to that of someone who does show-jumping. (I slightly question some of her techniques but I just broke my back getting launched off a horse so who am I to judge)

• I don’t really have much on Fishlegs or Snotlout and their dragons as Meatlug and Hookfang don’t possess any horse-like qualities to me personally. But I would say the way Snotlout rides Hookfang might slightly resemble dressage etiquette, on occasion at least. Fishlegs and Meatlug resemble the general etiquette and technique of a western rider, if somewhat bulkier.

• the twins are honestly a wildcard but their style of riding Barf and Belch seems like a mix between what you’d see in barrel racing and long-distance horse races

• Heather and Windshear ride like show jumpers. I think this might be a Sharp Class dragon thing?

That’s more or less what I have honestly.

Equestrians of the HTTYD fandom… do y’all ever really critique the dragon riders’ equitation and the style of horsemanship (dragonship????) that they use or just me?
