A/n: hey lovelies! Thank you so much for reading this series of mine. I enjoy writing this so much and always look forward to hear what you think. Leave me a comment or reblog, it makes my day!
Tumblr media
You had no idea why you had said agreed when Sybill Trelawney asked you to come to her office to drink tea after supper. You should have known she would lure you in with the promise of tea and then take the opportunity to tell you all about your future. You never took Divination when you were in Hogwarts, it seemed like a silly subject, nothing serious and definitely not something you would need for the job that you envisioned for yourself.
But right now there was not really anything you could do to stop her from telling you things you didn't even believe in. You sat opposite Sybill, tea cup in hand and she was staring at you with her big, magnified eyes just waiting for you to finish the tea. As soon as you did, she grabbed the cup from your hands and placed it upside down on the saucer. She mumbled a few words, waited for a bit and then took the cup into her hands. She studied the contents of the cup for what seemed like hours, while she hummed and raised her eyebrows in surprise from time to time.
‘Well, well. This is an interesting cup, very interesting indeed,’ she said finally. You nodded in response, not sure what to say.
‘It’s a wolf,’ Sybill said matter-of-factly before turning the cup your way so you could see it for yourself. Even with a lot of imagination, you found it hard to see what the Divination professor was seeing. In your untrained eyes all the residue of the tea leaves looked the same. Like tea leaves.
‘I’m not sure…’  you started to say, but Sybill quickly took the cup back and started talking over you.
'Definitely a wolf. It’s a positive omen, my dear. It means overcoming enemies and misfortune or sorrow in life,’ she said while nodding.
‘And since it’s placed in the middle, it also means you’re helping others with their concerns. Making others feel at ease. Apparently you provide much comfort,’ she continued.
For a moment you were speechless. You did not believe in this kind of stuff. But this was very fitting. A wolf? Seriously? You stared into Sybill’s eyes as if you were trying to figure out if she was playing a trick on you. She must have seen you and Remus together and thought this was what you wanted to hear. There was no way this was legit. You were even a bit embarrassed you were so quick to believe it.
‘Well, thank you for the tea, Sybill. But I should go. I have quite some essays to grade,’ you said while hoping it wasn’t too obvious you wanted to get out of her office as quickly as possible.
‘Of course, dear. Take some time to think it over and if you need more advice, let me know,’ she said with a big smile. You thanked her again, not really sure what for and then left. It was weird but while you walked away, all you could think about was how hard Remus would laugh if you told him about this.
You walked to the staffroom. You always preferred to work in the library, but you feared you would run into Remus if you went there. Ever since your argument last night you hadn’t seen him. It hurt your heart to not talk to him, but in a twisted way it made sense. He had to realize he had to take care of himself and if you were preventing him from doing just that, it was better to keep your distance.
When you entered the staff room, you saw Minerva sitting in one of the chairs in front of the fire, reading a book. You quickly walked towards her and sat down in the chair next to her. As soon as she noticed you, Minerva slammed her book shut and looked at you with a cheeky smile.
‘I’ve heard you’ve been busy,’ she said. You looked at her with surprise in your eyes.
‘Not particularly, I only had two classes to teach today and then after dinner I went to drink a cup of tea with Sybill but it was an ambush and she insisted on reading my tea leaves and..’ you stopped talking when you saw Minerva shaking her head.
‘That’s not what I meant. Severus told me he saw you and Remus kiss,’ she said with a giggle. It was so weird to see Minerva this girly and giggly about something and you involuntarily smiled as well.
‘Severus is a creep. He sat in the dark in the Defence classroom waiting for Remus. We didn’t see him when we got in and..’ you didn’t finish your sentence, suddenly embarrassed.
‘Because you were obviously busy. I’m so happy for the two of you,’ Minerva answered. You just stared at the fire, hoping that she would change the subject but of course she didn’t.
‘Why do I get a feeling you’re not happy?’ she said after a short silence. You sighed and quickly explained what happened between you and Remus last night after Severus had left. You didn’t even hesitate. It felt good to talk about it to someone else and it had been bothering you the entire day. When you finished, Minerva looked at you with a frown between her brows.
‘So after finally admitting your feelings to one another you get into a fight because Remus tells you you make him feel better than ever?’
You quickly shook your head.
‘No, you don’t understand, Minnie. He’s being irresponsible. He needs to take his potion and I can’t be the one who prevents him from doing so. No, not even if he says I make him feel better than ever,’ you snapped back. She was acting like it was just that simple.
‘You’re scared. This is a commitment. What if he hurts you? What if you hurt him? But that’s the thing with love, my dear Y/N. It’s all about taking risks. And right now you’re not even giving it a fair chance. You’re just making up all of these different reasons why it won’t work out. That’s not exactly brave.’  For a while you just sat there. Minerva’s words weren’t nice to hear, but you knew they were true. In an attempt to protect yourself and Remus from getting hurt, you hurt the both of you.
‘Well, I’m a true Ravenclaw, I guess. Head full of knowledge but no courage to be found,’ you mumbled more to yourself than to anyone else.
‘Luckily one of you is a Gryffindor,’ Minerva said with a smile, after which she pointed to the door. Remus Lupin had just entered the staff room. As soon as you caught his eye, you looked away. This didn’t stop him from coming over to where you were sitting.
‘Y/N. Hey. I went to the library first and when you weren’t there I hoped to find you here. Can we talk?’ he quickly said. He was even brave enough to softly touch your arm, a true Gryffindor indeed.
‘Remus. Just the person we wanted to see. Can you hand over your watch please?’ Minerva said sternly before you could respond. And because it’s the only right thing to do when Minerva McGonnagal tells you to do something, Remus obeyed. Minerva took the watch from him and then handed it over to you.
‘See, Y/N is going to put an enchantment on your watch so it reminds you every night to take your potion. That way you won’t be able to forget,’ Minerva explained. You looked at her in surprise. Of course. This was so simple yet so effective. Somehow she had just come up with the perfect solution. You smiled and then grabbed your wand. It was a simple spell and you were done in the blink of an eye.
‘It will start ringing every night at eight and it won’t stop until you complete your task,’ you said after you were done. Remus gave you a smile.
‘Then I won’t postpone the task for too long, the ringing will probably get on my nerves,’ he answered.
‘Yeah, that’s the idea,’ you answered and you helped him put the watch back on.
‘Thank you, love,’ Remus said and then he grabbed your hand.
‘Do you want to go for a walk? I haven’t seen you all day,’ he then said and you nodded. You said goodbye to Minerva and then left the staff room with Remus.
And just like that, everything seemed perfectly normal again. Aside from the fact that you were now walking hand in hand with the Defence professor trying to stay calm but wanting nothing more than to kiss him again. And again. Oh how you hoped you would get to kiss him again soon.
To be continued…

A/n: hello lovelies and welcome back to Angst Central. I know, last chapter was nothing but fluff, but I just love some angst. Please let me know what you think, I love to hear your thoughts!

For hours you sit there with Remus, on the bench in Hogsmeade. Kissing, talking, cuddling. Every time your lips touch, you feel like you’re about to burst from happiness. Every time his hand touches a part of your body, you feel yourself melt a little more.  It’s like you’re both teenagers again, being in love for the first time.
‘We really should go back to the castle, Remus,’ you said for the second time when you break apart to catch your breath. The first time he just ignored your words by pressing his lips firmly onto yours, locking you into a passionate kiss.
‘I don’t want this night to end,’ he mumbled, looking into your eyes, drinking you in.
‘I know, but we have to be back before midnight because of the protective enchantments,’ you said unwillingly. It’s not like you want to go, but you feel the responsibility.  The headmaster explained it all on your first night back at Hogwarts. Teachers obviously have more freedom than the students, but are also supposed to be back in the castle before midnight. That’s when additional protective enchantments start working. You don’t even want to think about what will happen when you arrive at the castle too late.
‘I know. You’re right. I bet you were a delightful prefect back in the day. Patrolling the corridors, hoping to find some students breaking curfew so you could discipline them,’ he answered with a grin.
‘Well, mister Lupin, if I remember correctly I did stumble upon four Gryffindors during one of my patrols back in the day and I let them off very easily,’ you answered. Remus’ friends at Hogwarts had been the infamous James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew and they had been known for their mischief and trouble. Remus had always been the quiet one, the one who tried to stop his friends from doing anything too stupid. When you caught the boys roaming the corridors late at night, they begged you not to tell anyone. They were all already in detention and promised to return to their dormitory right away. The least favorite part of being a prefect for you had always been punishing students , so it wasn’t too bad to just turn a blind eye.
Remus grinned at the memory and got up, reluctantly. He held out his hand to take yours and helped you up. A feeling of familiarity overcame you when you started walking back, hand in hand. It was cliché but your hand seemed to fit into his perfectly. You didn’t talk much on your way back, but you were both walking slowly as if you were trying to make the night last for as long as possible. As soon as you saw the castle, you dropped his hand.
‘Excuse me?’ he said and he immediately tried to grab hold of your hand again. You crossed your arms in front of you. Well, this was going to be awkward.
‘Sorry, Rem, but I don’t want people to know yet. Especially not the students. Imagine what that will do to my reputation.' You hated the words that came out of your mouth, every single one of them, but they were true. You didn’t want the gossip to be about your love life. You just wanted to keep this private while it still was so new and delicate.
'I understand,' he said coolly, which gave you the impression he very much did not understand, but he didn't take your hand again. Instead he opened the heavy hardwood doors of the castle for you. Even when he was offended, he was still a gentleman.
'I don't want to be upfront, but do you want to go to my office? Maybe have something to drink? Talk a bit more?' he asked and you nodded instantly.
'Yes, I would love that.'  It was crazy how different the start of this night was from how it was ending. It was a relief that you finally confessed your feelings to Remus. You walked to his classroom and Remus opened the door for you. As soon as you stepped inside, he grabbed your hands and pulled you towards him until his lips touched yours once more. When he dropped one of your hands to place his hand on the small of your back, you let your hand travel into his hair.
You froze when you heard a cough. Someone else was in the classroom. You quickly broke apart and when you turned to see who coughed, your heart dropped. Severus Snape was sitting behind Remus’ desk, a smoking goblet of potion in front of him.
‘Severus, I don’t remember inviting you into my office,’ Remus said coldly. It was the first time he dropped his overly-kind attitude towards Severus.
'It was not my idea to sit and wait here for you. Watching over you like you're a little child, checking to see if you're taking your potion but the headmaster insisted,’ Severus said. His tone was even colder and more unfriendly than usual, which was quite an achievement.
‘My potion,’ Remus said quietly. You couldn’t believe it. Did he truly forget his potion? The one thing that would make him a bit less dangerous during his transformations? You automatically took a step back as if you were trying to distance yourself.
‘Once again there’s nothing more I can do than warn you, miss Y/L/N. I can tell my previous warnings haven’t had any effect, but it would be wise to reconsider your company,’ he said to you, raising his eyebrows.
‘I’m perfectly capable of choosing my own company, Severus,’ you snapped back. He only shrugged.
‘Your funeral. Good night,’ he mumbled. He quickly collected his things, it looked like he had been grading essays while he waited for Remus, and left the classroom without another word.
As soon as Severus had closed the door behind him, Remus came closer, but you automatically stepped back.
‘Your potion, Remus. You should take it.’  He nodded and walked over to his desk, taking the goblet into his hands. You watched as he drank the whole potion in one go.
‘All right then. Can I offer you a drink, love?’ he said as soon as he had put the goblet down.
‘No thanks. I think it’s better if I left. You should get some rest,’ you answered, ignoring the disappointment you felt. This night had been perfect, up until now, when you were hit by reality.
‘Wait, what’s wrong, love? Is it Severus? Because I think it’s better to ignore him. He always wants to call me out on something. Don’t let it bother you.’ You couldn’t believe what you were hearing.
‘Are you kidding me? This is the second time that I see you simply forget to take your Wolfsbane potion. The one thing that makes you a little less dangerous. You can’t forget about it Remus, you are surrounded by people here. Kids mostly. It’s stupid and irresponsible. Severus is right.’
The silence that followed felt heavy. You knew you had struck a nerve, but there was no way you were going to dance around this. He was being irresponsible.
‘Godric’s sake, Y/N!’ he suddenly yelled. He startled you and you automatically took a step back.
‘I’m sorry, I, it’s just.. I’m not blaming you by saying this, but I forgot about it. I know it’s stupid and I know it’s not an excuse but when I’m with you I don’t think about it. It’s like the whole werewolf thing doesn’t exist when I’m with you. You make me feel… incredible, really,’ he said. You knew his words were supposed to calm you down, to compliment you, but they made you feel guilty instead.
‘If that’s the case then it’s probably better if I keep my distance,’ you heard yourself say. You saw the expression on his change, the smile disappeared. You knew your words were breaking his heart, but if they would keep him safe, it might be worth it.
‘I just forgot about it for a while, Y/N. I’m sure I would have remembered it soon enough,’ he said. He sounded like he was trying to bargain.
‘Yeah, that’s not good enough, Remus. See, I need you to take care of yourself. I need to be able to trust you. And I know your intentions are good, but I can’t be the reason you forget such important things as taking the potion. I can’t. I refuse to be that person,’ you said, voice trembling while trying to hold back the tears that burned in your eyes.
‘What do you mean? Everything I said tonight is true, love. I feel so much better when I’m with you. You are exactly what I need right now,’ he said and this time, he had grabbed your hands again. You resisted the urge to kiss him. This wasn’t the time to be selfish. To indulge into this romance. You needed him to be safe and healthy and apparently your presence was preventing just that.
‘I have to go. Get some rest. Think about it. We’ll talk later,’ you heard yourself mumble. Remus dropped your hands and when you tried to look him in the eyes, he was avoiding your gaze. He didn’t say anything when you walked to the door, nor when you opened it. He let you walk away in silence. All the way to your office you could held back your tears, but as soon as you entered your office, the tears started to flow.
You wondered if you did the right thing or just lost someone really special.

a/n: I’m so sorry for the delay with this part but MAJOR life stuff happened. Like MAJOR life events. Yes, multiple. But anyway I found some time to write this and I loved it. It’s fluffy and cute and I just wanted to write this. Hope you’ll love it as well, please leave a comment or reblog if you do!

Even with your busy schedule, time seemed to be slowing down. You kept counting down the days and then the hours and then the minutes until Remus came to pick you up for your date. You had said it was stupid for him to walk all the way to the seventh floor, where your office was, only to walk all the way down again, but he had insisted.
'I'm picking you up, Y/N. Don't argue,' he had said after the third time you had brought it up. It was absolutely ridiculous, but apparently, Remus Lupin was old-fashioned in the sense that he truly believed he should pick you up. Even a self-proclaimed feminist like yourself had to admit it was charming. You liked that he was willing to go the extra mile to pick you up.
You made sure to be ready on time. Wearing a deep purple dress that might leave you a bit overdressed for the occasion, but you loved wearing it. Ever since you started teaching you hadn't gotten a chance to wear something fancy, so you took it and tried not to be insecure about it. The look on Remus’ face when he picked you up and saw you in the dress had been well worth it.
‘You look stunning, Y/N,’ he said genuinely.
‘You look very handsome yourself, Remus,’ you replied. He wore dark green dressing robes, ones that he seemingly hadn’t worn a lot. The clothes made the man in question even more attractive.
It was only a short walk to Hogsmeade and you listened to Remus tell you about his day. You loved to listen to him, he always enjoyed telling you about the classes he taught and how well the students did. When you arrived at the Three Broomsticks, Remus gallantly opened the door for you. As soon as you stepped inside the warm cafe, you got overwhelmed by the noise. There was music, chatter, the sound of glass shattering and so much more you couldn’t even comprehend. When you felt Remus’ hand on the small of your back, it reminded you to keep walking.
‘I’ll get us drinks,’ he said after he took your cloak from your shoulders to put it away for you. Before you could say anything, he had left, leaving you to stand by yourself. It wasn’t long before you saw a familiar face in the crowd. Pomona Sprout, the little plump Herbology professor waved at you and then walked up to you.
‘Y/N? I had no idea you were coming tonight as well? We could have walked together!’ Pomona said excitedly.
‘I didn’t know you were going as well, Pomona,’ you replied, which was in fact a lie. You had overheard her and Minerva talk about it, but had pretended not to have heard to avoid any awkward questions.
‘I love a good party. Remus! What are you doing here?,’ she asked with a great smile. Remus had appeared again, carrying two glasses.
‘I asked Y/N to come to this party with me, you know, trying to do something fun from time to time,’ he replied with an awkward smile. It was obvious what he really wanted to say was: leave us alone, we’re on a date, but he was simply too polite to say just that. Luckily she seemed to understand anyway.
‘Yes, of course, Remus. Nice to see you both, I’ll leave you to it, then,’ the Herbology professor quickly said and she disappeared as quickly as she had appeared.
‘So much for secretly going here together,’ you said with a sigh. Remus looked at you with a confused look in his eyes.
‘Who said it was a secret? I told Minnie and Rubeus about it. Oh, and Dumbledore.’
You almost started laughing, convinced he was joking, but the look on his face remained serious.
‘You told the headmaster we were going out?’ you said, wonder-struck.
‘Is that a bad thing? He overheard me when I told Minerva and seemed excited so I just told him about it,’ Remus explained.
‘I don't know. I'm just afraid he'll think of it as unprofessional,’ you said quietly. When said out loud, it sounded harsh, but it was a genuine concern you had. Of course you had felt excited and proud when Remus asked you out, but you intended to keep it a secret to prevent rumors spreading amongst your colleagues or worse, the students.
‘It's Dumbledore, he won't mind.. Anyway, I got you a glass of sparkling water. Which is boring but I forgot to ask you what you liked and I noticed you drink a lot of sparkling water,’ he continued. And there he was again, insecure, nervous Remus.
‘Thank you Remus, that's perfect,’ you said after taking the glass from him.
‘But I can get you something stronger if you’d like,’ he said, still unsure.
‘No thanks, I don’t drink alcohol.’  He looked up at you in surprise.
‘Me neither. Glad that’s not a buzzkill for you,’ he said, obviously relieved. You nodded and then sipped from your drink. The story of why you decided not to drink was one you would tell him another time, but it was a relief he didn’t drink as well.
It was getting busier inside the Three Broomsticks and what you remembered to be a spacious cafe, seemed to become smaller by the minute.
‘Do you want to dance?’  he asked after a minute. Your first instinct was to decline. You always felt awkward when you had to dance, never sure about the right moves or timing or the way your body moved. But this was Remus Bloody Lupin asking. There was only one right answer.
‘I would love to.’
And so you let him take you by the hand and walked over to the dancefloor. The song that was playing was unfamiliar to you, but it was perfectly up-beat for dancing.
Remus made sure to lead you and for the first time in your life you actually felt confident while dancing. He made you spin and lifted you and pulled you closer to his body as the music intensified. You giggled when he decided to use the entire dance floor and made dance moves that would be considered very old-fashioned. It was charming. And then it just stopped. The song ended and when the music started again, it was a slow ballad that didn’t match the mood you and Remus were in so you stopped in unison. All around you couples started to slow dance.
‘Do you want to go outside? I could use some fresh air and… space,’ you said, right after someone stepped on your toes. Remus nodded and you both walked towards the door.
‘I’ll get our cloaks,’ Remus said and so he did. Somehow he also managed to get new drinks and he handed you one, along with your cloak. The chilly breeze was pleasant on your skin and the faded sound of music and chatter made you feel a bit more at ease. You had liked to dance, but escaping the noise was even better.
‘I never knew you could dance this well, Remus,’ you said. It wasn’t even supposed to sound this flirty, but it did. He grinned.
‘I never dance nowadays. But this felt like a great occasion to do it again. You’re a very fun dance partner,’ he answered, equally flirtatious. You walked for a bit in silence, leaving the crowded party further and further behind you. After a short walk you saw a wooden bench.
‘Do you want to sit down?’ you asked and Remus nodded.
‘It’s a pity you were in Ravenclaw when we were in school,’ he suddenly said after you had sat down.
‘Excuse me? Ravenclaw is a very respectable house, thank you very much. Some may argue it’s the best house,’ you answered teasingly.
‘I never said Ravenclaw is a bad house. I just wish you were in Gryffindor back then, because then I got to spend so much more time with you,’ he explained. Not knowing what to say, you took a sip of your sparkling water. You hoped Remus wouldn’t notice your flushed cheeks in the dark.
‘But then again, you probably would have fallen for James Potter even harder,’ he continued. His words surprised you so badly you almost choked on your sparkling water. It took a while, coughing, eyes filled with tears, for you to finally catch your breath again. Remus had taken the glass from you and had put it, along with his own, on the bench beside him.
‘Excuse me? James Potter? What are you talking about?’
Remus looked at you for a moment, as if he was trying to figure out if you were being truthful.
‘I always thought you fancied James Potter when we were in school,’ he said matter-of-factly.
‘James Potter? You're kidding. Never.’
‘Everyone liked James Potter,’ Remus simply said.
‘True. He liked himself best probably. Not to say anything bad about the dead, but the guy was quite full of himself. I liked him all right, but he was too loud and superficial for me,’ you explained.
‘He was the only Griffindor I ever saw in your company,’ Remus pressed on, as if he was presenting evidence in court, trying to prove something. You rolled your eyes. He was right. You and James had spent some time together, but it was not for the reasons Remus was thinking of.
‘Well, he liked to shower me with compliments so I would help him with his spell work. He was always kind to me and I liked teaching others back then as much as I do now so I helped him when he asked me to. But no, I never fancied him. James Potter was definitely not my type,’ you explained.
‘Then what is your type?’ Remus asked bluntly and it took everything in you to keep yourself from screaming:  you, you idiot, you're my type! You decided to go for a more subtle approach.
‘Well. I like kind, hard working, sensitive people who are also very funny,’ you said, almost sure he would get the hint. But he didn’t. Not in the slightest.
‘You just described every Hufflepuff ever. Your late husband was a Hufflepuff, right?’
You rolled your eyes. This was not going too well. The mention of your late husband stung. You were finally moving on, actually really liking someone else. To be reminded of the tragedy of your life was not what you wanted at that moment.
‘I'm not as superficial as you might think. I don't care about the house someone was sorted into or I wouldn’t even be sitting here with you. You can’t honestly think I’m that shallow,’ you snapped.
‘I know, I'm sorry. I was hoping for a different answer I guess,’ he mumbled. It annoyed you that he didn't even look at you.
‘What were you hoping for ?’ you heard yourself ask, much braver than you felt on the inside. This time, Remus did look at you. His green eyes staring into yours, melting your heart.
‘Listen, Y/N. I really tried to stop it. To keep things professional. To keep my distance because you know, I'm dangerous. I'm out of your league. We work together. But I must admit I've fallen for you. You are making my time at Hogwarts the most magical of my life. I’m not a morning person but now I’m forcing myself to wake up early so I can sit next to you at the breakfast table. When something good happens, I only think about how much fun it’ll be to tell you. I guess I want to know if you feel the same.’
It felt like you were frozen in time. Unable to think or speak or move. This was all you wanted to hear, but now you didn’t know how to respond.  And then all at once, a million little things are happening. One of his hands on your arm, the other cupping your cheek. His eyes gazing into yours, desperately trying to find an answer in them. You opened your mouth to speak, but were unable to find the words. And then it just happened. You’re not even sure who moved first but suddenly you’re both moving towards each other. You feel his breath against your face as you slowly closed your eyes and leaned into him a bit more until your lips touch. His lips are soft against yours and it’s this kiss that wakes the butterflies in your stomach. The kiss gets more passionate as he pressed his lips harder on yours, desperate almost, like your lips were the oxygen he needed to survive. Your hands traveled over his arms and into his hair. His hands find a spot on your waist where they stay, pulling you closer.
When you finally broke apart for air, you smiled at him. You bend forward again, almost letting your lips touch again when you realize you still owe him an answer.
‘I do feel the same, Rem. I really do,’ you whispered against his lips.

It shouldn’t have surprised you, but as soon as you became aware of the whispers in the hallway, it still took you off guard. It felt weird to be the center of attention when that was something you tried to avoid at all costs. It made you feel uncomfortable. You could never quite hear what the students were whispering exactly, but on a couple of occasions you did hear your name and Remus’ as well. Over the last couple of days you and Remus had been spending more time together, something the students must have noticed. You enjoyed his company and felt at ease with him. All of the time spent together was very innocent though, sitting next to each other at the breakfast table or in the library, like you were now.
You were reading the Standard Book of Spells volume six to read up on nonverbal spells that your NEWT class was working on. Remus was grading essays. You both loved sitting in the library. It was usually quieter than the staff room and if you needed more information on a subject, all the source material was at your fingertips. You enjoyed being in the company of books for you saw them as the ultimate companion, calm, cozy and filled with knowledge, much like the man next to you.
'Y/N?' Remus suddenly said and you looked at him, your index finger on the line in the book to mark what you were reading. His green eyes looked at you and you couldn't help but smile at him.
'Yes, Remus?'
'I was thinking about my next lesson. I arranged a grindylow and thought that maybe it was a fun idea to let the students learn about defeating it in its natural habitat. I would of course need some kind of portable swamp or body of water,' he explained. You loved seeing a twinkle in his eyes when he talked about what interested him.
'Wow cool, a grindylow,' you answered coldly, when you meant it was anything but cool. Defence Against the Dark Arts had always been your least favorite subject when you were in school yourself and that was mainly due to your fear of dark creatures. You were a very competent witch, but the creatures scared you.
'What is it, Y/N? Don't you think grindylows are a good subject to cover? Maybe the third-years will find them dull.’ He looked a bit insecure while he said it and you immediately regretted your cold response. You put a bookmark between the pages of your book and put it in your lap. You sat up a bit straighter and looked into his kind eyes.
'You know how you used an entire class of third-years to confuse a boggart? Well, not to brag but I could do that all by myself. Grindylows are somewhere on my very long list of fears,' you said with a grin, hoping he wouldn't take your stupid fears too seriously. The truth was that there were a lot of things you were terribly afraid of. Your late husband had always lovingly referred to you as his little worry bug. He grinned.
'Well, I was going to ask you to transfigure a part of the classroom into a swamp but I guess you’re not really looking forward to that then. However, I can assure you that you will not be in any sort of danger. I’m sure I can protect you when it comes to the grindylow,' he answered, the grin still on his face. He obviously thought your fear of grindylows was a bit silly, which it was, but him talking about protecting you sounded very sexy.
'You should ask Minnie, you know with her specialty being Transfiguration,' you said instead. There was just something about Remus that made you insecure, doubt yourself. What if you got too nervous and you wouldn’t be able to perform the spells? It would be safer to let Minerva do it.
'I know she can do it, but I don't want to ask Minnie, I want to ask you. You probably think I'm weird but I thought it would be a fun thing to do together.' A million butterflies had woken up in your stomach and were flapping their wings violently inside of you. He looked at you expectedly and you knew at that moment there wasn’t a chance you were going to say no to him. Not when he was staring at you with his puppy dog eyes.
'Fine, I'll help you. You are indeed a bit weird,' you answered and you saw his expression change.
'Oh but the good kind of weird. I mean if you're weird, I'm absolutely mad,' you quickly added.
'Well, it looks good on you,' was Remus' smooth response.
Before you even got the change to respond, madam Pince had appeared before you. You had been so focused on Remus you never saw her coming, it was like she had appeared out of thin air.
‘Professors, I’m about to close for the night,’ she said. You both packed your stuff and got up, only now noticing the lights were already dimmed and everyone had left.
‘Maybe we can meet tomorrow after dinner? To fix something for the grindylow?' he asked with a tiny smile.
'Of course. I'll see you then.'
'Yes, but I hope to see you earlier as well,' he answered, which made you blush.
~~**~~
You did see him before dinner the next day. In fact, you spend both breakfast and lunch hour in his company. It was so easy to be with him. Easy to talk and laugh with him but also to discuss more serious topics. It was more than once that you noticed Severus eyeing the both of you, looking for something you didn't know what it was. You tried to ignore it. Sure, you liked being with him, but you weren't doing anything wrong.
When finally dinner was over, you felt excited to spend some time alone with Remus, far from the prying eyes of the other staff members. It startled you when Albus Dumbledore asked you to visit his office first. Remus quickly nodded, as if he was agreeing to meet you after and then walked out of the Great Hall.
'Is there something I should worry about, headmaster?' you asked when you finally arrived at his office. The walk had been horrible, filled with anxiety and lingering questions you were too afraid to ask.
'Lemon sherbet!' professor Dumbledore said instead of answering and the stone gargoyle came to life and moved out of the way so you could start climbing the stairs to his office.
'Please sit down, miss Y/L/N,' he kindly said after you had entered his office. You did and let your eyes wander around the office. It was filled to the brim with interesting objects and you found it hard to keep your focus.
'First of all, and I do realize this is long overdue, I'd like to tell you how happy it makes me that teaching comes so naturally for you. I've heard from students and staff members how very valuable you are. It makes me glad I was right about you,’  he said smiling.
‘Thank you very much, headmaster. It’s been great to be back at Hogwarts, I love teaching,’ you answered. Professor Dumbledore nodded and put the tips of his long fingers together.
‘That is good to hear, miss Y/L/N. But there is something I need to discuss. Ever since the start of the school year I’ve been filling in for professor Flitwick as the Head of Ravenclaw House. I thought it would be a small extra task, but it has proven to be more work than I can handle at the time. I was wondering if you wanted to take on the task. Of course, if you feel like you’re too busy..’
You sat up a bit straighter. You felt honored that professor Dumbledore would even consider you for the position.
‘Of course, professor. I will do it,’ you answered. The headmaster seemed relieved and nodded approvingly.
‘And now, you should not let professor Lupin wait too long for you,’ he said with an amused smile.
'How do you…' you started, but you were so confused you didn't even seem to be able to finish the sentence.
‘I might be old, but I'm not blind, miss YLN. I'm glad you two have reconnected after so many years. He needs a friend right now and I believe you are an excellent one for him. I’ll not take up anymore of your time. Thank you for helping me, miss. Y/L/N.’
You felt a bit confused when you walked to Remus’ classroom. Was it really so obvious you and Remus liked to spend time together? Were more people suspecting something or was it just the headmaster who had picked up on it?
The door of Remus' classroom flew open as soon as you had knocked on the door.
‘Y/N, I'm glad you’re here. How did it go with Dumbledore?’ he asked after he let you in. You quickly recalled what you and the headmaster had talked about.
‘Wow, it’s your Hogwarts days all over again, Head Girl, Head of Ravenclaw house, what’s the difference, eh?’
You rolled your eyes at his teasing and took your wand out of your pocket.
‘So, tell me, what do you need exactly? I should get to work since I’m very busy now that I’m Head of Ravenclaw House. You’re lucky you asked me in advance because my schedule is full now,’ you teased him back. While Remus explained what he needed to get done, you got to work. Muttering spells under your breath while focussing on the changes that happened to the classroom because of it. You could feel that Remus was looking at you and you had a hard time not to get distracted by it.
It only took ten minutes to create a temporary swamp in Remus' classroom. You got carried away a bit and added wildflowers and an oak tree as well. The small lake was a bit deeper than you had intended, but it was a fun spell you never got to use so you thought you might as well take this opportunity to have some fun with it.
'Okay, I might have gone a bit overboard with the depth of the lake. So please, Rem, be careful. It will look really bad on me if the Defence professor were to drown in his own classroom. Especially when I made the lake he drowned in. I just got promoted, you know,’ you said while biting your lip in an attempt not to laugh. He shook his head with an amused grin on his face.
'I can swim, Y/N.’
'Yeah, I figured, but still. Don't drown,’ you pressed on while you put your wand in the pocket of your cloak.
'It would definitely look bad on you, but then again, once they see this amazing spell work, they might forget about the drowning all at once,’ he said, pointing at some of the wildflowers.
'Yes of course. They might not even notice your floating body while admiring all of this,’ you added.
You both bursted out in laughter and the sound of his sincere laugh filled you with joy. After a while Remus shook his head and looked at you.
‘I can't believe you think I would go take a swim in my own classroom, when the lake is enchanted and there’s a grindylow in there,’ he said, still with a smile on his face.
‘Who said I thought you would go for a swim? I just figured maybe you're a sleepwalker and I placed a deathly trap in your classroom,’ you explained a bit more serious.
Remus chuckled.
‘I don't think I'm a sleepwalker,’ he assured you.
‘Good to know.’
When you looked at the clock on the wall, the time surprised you. Once again, time had slipped through your fingers while you enjoyed his company.
‘It's late, I should probably go,' you quickly said. You wanted to turn around, but Remus grabbed your wrist. Even though his grip was loose, it made you stop in your tracks.
‘Y/N, there’s something I wanted to ask,’ he said and you felt a lump in your throat. Remus always made you a bit nervous, but once he touched you, it felt like all common sense disappeared and you turned into a shaky mess.
‘It’s almost Halloween,’ he continued. He was right, this Friday was the 31st of October. You nodded and waited for what he was going to say.
‘There is this Halloween party in Hogsmeade on Friday. I thought maybe you could go, if you weren’t busy. There’s music and food and.. stuff,’ he said. He suddenly seemed nervous as well, but everything he said just didn’t make sense to you. You waited for him to say more, but when he didn’t, you answered.
‘Well, I don’t know. I’m not really a party type, you know,’ you mumbled. It was true. You felt most at ease in a quiet, cozy and familiar environment, a party was possibly your worst nightmare.
‘Yeah but you know, I'll be there as well,’ he then quietly said.
He looked at you like a deer in headlights. It took you a little while to comprehend what he had asked you.
‘Remus Lupin, are you asking me to go on a date with you?’ you asked surprised.
‘No. Or yes. I don't know. Guess it depends on your answer,’ he said quickly, stumbling over his own words.
You giggled. Shy Remus was adorable and you wanted to hug him there on the spot, but you resisted the urge.
‘I would love to go with you, Remus.’
‘That’s great. I’m looking forward to it,’ he said. Long after you left his office, when you couldn’t sleep, you kept hearing his last words in your head. You were also looking forward to it.

Your class of third-year Hufflepuffs and Griffindors was extremely boisterous today. The teenagers were never really quiet by any means, but this was something different. Something was bothering them and you intended to find out before starting your lesson because you could tell no one was going to pay attention otherwise.
‘Attention please! What a commotion. Who can tell me what’s going on? Yes, Ron. Please do tell,’ you said, looking at the red-headed boy who was frowning.
‘It’s professor Snape, professor Y/L/N. He filled in for professor Lupin for Defence Against the Dark Arts class and it was such a horrible lesson. He gave us so much homework as well,’ Ron Weasley explained.
‘Two roles of parchment on werewolves, professor Y/L/N,’ Neville Longbottom added with a look of terror in his eyes. You knew the boy was terribly afraid of Severus Snape and failing and you immediately felt sorry for him.
‘He didn’t listen when we told him we’re not supposed to be learning about werewolves in a long time,’ Hermione Granger added.
You suddenly felt nauseous. What a pathetic and immature move Severus made. It didn’t sit well with you that he seemed to be out to get Remus in ways that were beyond you. The idea that students would find out about Remus’ condition scared you. You took a deep breath.
‘Okay, I totally understand why you’re upset, but you should discuss this with professor Lupin when he returns. I’m sure he will arrange something for you.’
‘Professor Lupin is the best Defence teacher we ever had. I hope he is back soon,’ Dean Thomas said and you couldn’t help but smile.
‘I’m glad to hear that, Dean. But for now, I need every single one of you to focus on Charms because I have a very exciting lesson planned for today. Please, books and quills away, all you need is your wand,’ you said while making a mental note to confront Severus yourself. This was just nasty bullying and it needed to stop.
Excited mumbles filled the classroom. A wands-only class was usually the favorite type of lesson for the students.
‘We’re discussing counter-spells today. Can anyone tell me what a counter-spell is?’ you asked and it wasn't a surprise that  Hermione Granger had raised her hand. You let her answer the question correctly, awarded her with 5 points for Gryffindor and then went to demonstrate the spell. All the while, Remus was on your mind.
~~**~~
When the third-years left the classroom, chatting excitedly about the lesson they just had, you quickly grabbed your bag and Remus’ cloak. You wanted to talk to Severus before dinner and return Remus’ cloak after.
‘All right there, Neville?’ you asked the boy who seemed to dawdle.
‘I really messed up today. Everyone else performed at least one successful counter-spell. Everyone but me,’ he answered while looking at the ground.
‘It was just the first lesson, Neville. You’ll have plenty of time to catch up. No one did it perfectly, except...'
‘Hermione,’ he finished your sentence.
‘Yes. But Hermione is in a league of her own. You know what, Neville? I’m free tonight after dinner. If you want to we can practice some more together.’
‘Really? I could really use the extra time,’ the boy answered a bit shy.
‘Well, that’s settled then. I’ll see you here, in this classroom after dinner.’ Neville thanked you and then left. You did as well, but instead of heading for the Great Hall, you walked towards the dungeons.
The closer you got to Severus’ office, the colder it seemed to get. Fortunately, you still had Remus’ cloak with you and you put it on. The familiar smell of earth and chocolate filled your nostrils when you pulled the cloak around you.
‘Y/N? Are you lost?’
When you looked down the hallway you saw Severus Snape walking towards you, his dark eyes piercing yours.
‘Severus. I was actually on my way to your office, I wanted to ask you something.’
‘I was just on my way to the Great Hall. We could walk together,’ he answered kindly with the tiniest hint of a smile around his lips. It was confusing to you. How could he be so kind to you, yet so cruel to Remus?
‘You had a question, Y/N?’
‘Well, I heard a rumor and I wanted to check with you if it was true.’ It was only half a lie. You knew it was true, you were just interested to see what he had to say for himself. Maybe it was all a misunderstanding. Maybe the students had exaggerated, you knew Severus was only popular with the students from his own house Slytherin. Mainly because he favored them so much over the other students.
‘Ah, I see. And what is this rumor?’ he asked.
‘The third-years say that you taught them about werewolves when you filled in for Remus. They were quite upset about the amount of homework you gave them,’ you explained. The look on his face immediately changed, his smile disappeared and his eyes narrowed.
'Lupin should be glad his classes are taking care of while he is… unwell. I thought it would be good to arm the students with appropriate information concerning his condition. Who knows, they might need it. We want our students to be safe, of course.’
For a moment you weren’t sure how to respond.
‘You can’t be serious. The students are safe,’ you said. When a group of Slytherins appeared in the hallway and looked at you two curiosly, you continued in a whisper.
'I personally think it's pathetic to bully someone. Especially when you're both adults and you should know better. Your potion is supposed to keep him safe. So make sure you do your part and stop this childish behavior.’
Severus looked at you for a moment but didn’t reply. It was a relief when you finally arrived at the Great Hall and both took a seat at the staff table. You felt a bit disappointed when you noticed Remus wasn’t there, but enjoyed the food while listening to Rubeus Hagrid talk about a creature he spotted in the Forbidden Forest.
~~**~~
After dinner, for which Remus never showed, you went back to your classroom. You found Neville Longbottom already waiting for you. You sat down opposite the boy and conjured a teacup out of thin air. With another wave of your wand you made it dance. It was Neville’s task to perform the counter-spell so the jinx would be lifted.
‘Okay, listen Neville. You are almost there. Your incantation is good, but it should be a bit more powerful. Your wand movement is still a bit messy. It’s really important to keep your hand as still as possible. I’m sure you can do it. I saw you repair your remembrall and you did great!’ you said.
He mumbled something under his breath.
‘I’m sorry, Neville, I didn’t quite catch that.’
‘I’m so clumsy,’ the boy repeated a bit louder.
‘Reparo is one of my most used spells, I’m terribly clumsy as well,’ you said to him truthfully. The number of times you had knocked something over or dropped something only to quickly repair it before anyone else saw it was embarrassing. The boy smiled shyly.
‘So, come on. Give it your best shot. You know the wand movement. Now you have to believe you can do it. Show me,’ you cheered the boy on. It was in that moment you saw something move. When you looked up you saw Remus, leaning against the doorpost. Arms crossed and looking at you. He placed his index finger over his lips and then pointed at Neville. The boy was so focused on the task before him that he hadn’t noticed someone else enter.
‘F-f-finite,’ Neville said softly, but his stutter and the unsure wand movement didn’t have the effect he wanted to achieve. The cup kept dancing.
‘That’s okay, Neville. You have to be a bit firmer. Speak loud and clear. Once more,’ you said with a smile. The boy tried. And again. And again. You couldn’t help but look at Remus while the boy was practicing and saw him looking at the boy instead.
‘Come on, Neville. Louder! Pretend you already performed this spell a hundred times. Pretend it’s a spell you’ve known your whole life. You can do it,’ you pressed on when you managed to peel your eyes off the man in your doorway.
‘Finite!’ the boy said and this time his spell had worked. The cup you had jinxed to dance around the table stopped dead in his tracks.
‘Yes! Great work, Neville!’ you yelled enthusiastically. A proud smile appeared on the boy’s face.
‘Indeed. Well done, Neville,’ Remus said with a smile.
‘Professor Lupin. Are you feeling better?’ Neville asked when he had turned around.
‘Luckily I am,' Remus answered.
‘Well, professor Snape gave us a lot of homework for Defence against the Dark Arts and we tried to tell him what subject we were working on but he didn’t listen and…’
‘It’s okay, Neville. I’ll talk to professor Snape. You don’t have to do the homework,’ Remus said calmly. The boy instantly relaxed.
‘That’s great news, professor. I’ll go and tell the otherGryffindors,’ Neville said with a sigh of relief and got up.
‘Thank you so much for helping me, professor Y/L/N.’
‘Of course, Neville. No problem at all, you did great,’ you answered with a smile.
When Neville had left, Remus walked over to your desk and sat down opposite you.
'Your teaching is so effortless. I feel like I need you to teach me how to teach, if that makes sense,’ he said with a warm smile. His presence immediately made you nervous, his compliment made your cheeks burn.
‘I’m just helping Neville with his confidence because that’s the only issue. He’s actually quite skilled at Charms,’ you said airily, hoping he wouldn’t notice your flushed cheeks.
‘You don’t have to put in all the extra effort, but you do. The students really like you,’ he pressed on. You looked into his green eyes for a while, trying to determine if he was being serious or just trying to flatter you.
‘Why would you say that? Who knows what these students think nowadays? They might think I’m very boring or incapable of teaching for all we know,’ you said quickly. Even though you had been teaching for a couple of weeks now, you still felt so new and awkward about it.
‘I might have overheard some students in the corridors, gushing over how fun and smart you are and about how much they are learning,’ he simply said. A sense of pride swelled in your chest.
‘I’m glad to hear that. I tend to be insecure about it, you know,’ you said to him.
‘No need. Just from watching you interact with Neville for ten minutes, assures me you are the right woman for the job,’ he added.
‘I hear you’re not doing so bad yourself. Dean Thomas said during my lesson today that you're the best Defence professor they ever had and a lot of students agreed,’ you told him.
Remus considered this for a moment and then shrugged.
‘Well, being compared to a man possessed by lord Voldemort and Gilderoy Lockhart, I'm not sure it's as big of a compliment as you might think. The third-years have been very unfortunate when it comes to Defence professors,’ he then answered.
‘Oh come on, Remus. You're being way too modest.’
‘Maybe. But I know for a fact that your job at the Ministry was way below your abilities as well, Y/N.’ You raised your eyebrows.
'It is actually really important work, thank you very much. I helped a lot of people during my time at the Ministry,’ you snapped back. Maybe he was right. You knew the job at the Ministry was an easy choice for you, but you had been content. You knew you were good at it and you liked to feel competent. Him confronting you with the fact that you could do better, felt weirdly intimate, like he really knew you.
'Yeah I’m sure you did help a lot of people. I bet you did a really good job and I wonder if they will find someone as capable to replace you, but that’s besides the point. Did it make you happy?’
When you didn’t respond right away, he smirked.
‘I thought so. Teaching comes so naturally for you. You’re doing a great job.’
‘Thank you, Remus. But I’m sure you didn’t come here to compliment my teaching skills,’ you said to change the subject. You knew Remus meant well, but it made you a bit uncomfortable. His expression changed and became more serious.
‘No. You still seem to be in possession of my cloak and since this castle is extremely cold, I was wondering if I could have it back.’ You quickly grabbed the cloak from the back of your chair and handed it back to him.
‘Thank you. Also, Severus told me you came to see him. He was under the impression I asked you to speak with him about his werewolf lesson,’ Remus added. His tone had changed, it was less relaxed now.
‘I did, but I never said you asked me to. I just had to say something. That man is so..’  you started babbling, but Remus interrupted before you could describe what he was exactly.
‘I can fight my own battles, Y/N. I would appreciate it if you would let me handle this by myself.’ You shook your head in disbelief.
‘You would never have said something about this to Severus.’
‘It's not worth it. Let Severus act like this. I’m not letting it get to me. If he really wanted to hurt me, he could easily mess up the Wolfsbane potion and since he hasn’t done that, I have a lot to be grateful for.’
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at him. It was obvious you two weren’t going to agree on this topic. He smiled and put a hand on your arm. Every little touch made your heart race and you looked away, feeling a bit intimidated by gaze.
‘Harry,’ you said, when your eyes landed on a boy with messy hair and bright green eyes who was standing in the door way.
‘I’m Remus, love,’ Remus said with a look of confusion in his eyes. You sat up straight and pulled your arm back.
‘Funny. Harry Potter is standing in the doorway,’ you answered. Remus turned around and saw the boy standing, immediately moving even farther away from you.
‘Ah right. Hello Harry, how are you?’ Remus asked quickly.
‘I’m fine, professor Lupin. Neville told me he saw you here, so I figured you were feeling better. I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about dementors. If I’m not interrupting, of course,’ the boy explained. You saw him looking at the two of you, probably trying to figure out why his Defence and Charms professors were sitting so close to each other in an empty classroom during the evening.
‘Of course, Harry. I was just here to ask professor Y/L/N something. Shall we go to my office? I’ll see you later, Y/N,’ Remus said. You nodded and watched Remus and Harry leave.
When they had left, it suddenly bothered you the boy had seen you and Remus so close to each other. What if he told his friends his Defence and his Charms professor seemed really close? You could only imagine the rumors that would start circling around in the corridors. Just when you finally started to believe you were doing a good job teaching, your personal life was becoming messy.

‘I want to show you something,’ Remus had said before you followed him, out of the  castle and past the lake. When the cold October wind made you shiver, he removed his cloak and put it around your shoulders without a word. You appreciated the kind gesture, but were still angry with him so you didn’t say anything either. You were expecting some kind of apology from Remus, but the longer you walked with him in silence, the more you started to doubt whether you would get one. What was he up to? You were so lost in your thoughts you almost bumped into him when he suddenly stopped walking.
‘This is the Whomping Willow,’ he said pointing at the magical tree before you.
‘I know that. It was already here when I attended Hogwarts.’ I, you said with intent, because as far as you were concerned there was no such thing as ‘we’ or ‘us’.
'I hate trees,' you mumbled, which was a lie. You were perfectly indifferent about trees, but you weren't going to let Remus off easily. He had been nothing but rude to you and it was time to mirror his behavior.
‘It was planted in 1971 to cover up a secret passage that leads all the way to the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmeade,’ he explained while looking at the moving branches of the violent tree.
‘And why are you telling me this?’ you asked impatiently. He was getting on your nerves. Standing there, hands in his pockets, seemingly unaware of how annoyed you were. It was cold, despite wearing his cloak and you had no idea why he brought you outside to talk about a stupid tree.
‘This tree was planted here because of me. Every full moon I sneak out of the castle and go to the Shrieking Shack, the tree prevents me from getting out during my transformations and also makes it less likely for anyone to follow me. I thought giving you some insight into what happens during my transformations will help you understand why I don’t want people too close to me. This,’ he pointed at the tree, ‘is  just one example of the complexity of being a werewolf.’
‘I understand it’s complex, Remus. But on the other hand, it’s just a night. One night a month. It doesn’t define you.’ A thin smile appeared on his face and he shook his head.
‘Your positivity is bordering on being toxic, my dear Y/N. I feel like you’ve made it your life’s mission to turn every single struggle into something positive. This whole stupid werewolf thing, as you like to call it, it's just horrible. You need to be more realistic. Stop sugarcoating everything.' His words made your blood boil.
'I never said this is a positive thing. You treat me like I'm some foolish girl who believes in fairytales. I'm not stupid. I'm just trying to tell you you've been focusing all of your energy on the wrong things. Yes, you're a werewolf and I bet it sucks. But guess what? Terrible things happen to good people all the time.' You paused and looked at him. His green eyes had wandered of into the distance and he seemed convinced to not look at you.
'My husband died a few days before our first wedding anniversary, he was 25. He was everything I ever wanted in a person. Our marriage was great and he still died. After it happened, there were days I only survived because I was too stubborn to let the grief overwhelm me. So I changed my perspective, focusing my energy on looking for the good things. Or at least the okay things. That is not a weakness. I'm not naive. I did what I had to do to survive. So no, Remus Lupin. You're not going to stand there and talk down to me like I'm some kind of delusional little girl. I'm not having it. I've been accepting your awful behavior for a long time now and I'm not doing it anymore.'
You turned around, ready to walk away when he grabbed your arm. You tried to shake him off, but he only pulled you closer towards him. This time he finally looked at you. His eyes filled with worry but still looking at you softly, making you feel like you were the only person in the world. The only one worth looking at. It was astonishing to you what the effect of his eyes on you was. He reached out and grabbed your hands. Your hands seemed to fit perfectly, your hands cool in his warm and bigger ones, fingers intertwined.
'I am terribly sorry, Y/N. Once again I underestimated you. I feel this urge to protect you with all my might when I'm around you. I seem to forget time and time again that you are strong and brave and way out of my league,' he said, ending his sentence with a sigh.
His words made you blush. You looked down at your hands, entangled, strangely familiar.
'You make it sound like I'm not even human. I have a lot of flaws, I know that, Remus. My perseverance and curiosity will be my downfall one day, I'm sure of it. And by all means, if you don't like me, please say so. But it all feels so contradictory. You let me get close to you, then push me away. I don't want to play games.' In the silence that followed Remus looked at you for a while. When he started talking his voice was filled with regret.
'I never wanted to make you feel this way. I hate that I made you feel this way. It's just... You're way too kind. And I obviously like you. I feel like that was obvious, but I guess it was not. I'm not someone who plays games.' His words surprised you. Did he really just casually mention he liked you?
'Holy Godric! Are you always this grumpy and rude to people you like? I thought you hated me,' you answered confused.
'Only the smart and pretty ones that intimidate me with their perseverance get the grumpy treatment,' he answered with a smirk. You didn't know what to say and it must be written all over your face because Remus continued to speak.
'So once again and hopefully this will be the last time: I'm sorry, Y/N.'  You looked at him. He seemed sincere and all you wanted was to be able to talk to him again like you did before. To befriend the handsome and smart and sometimes very rude man in front of you. You pretended to think long and hard about what he said, but then shrugged.
'All right then. Apology accepted. Friends?' you asked even though you hated the word friends in this context. There was so much more you wanted from him, but now was not the time to tell him that.
'Friends,' he replied with a smile. When he looked down at his hands, you realized he was still holding yours. It suddenly felt too intimate and you let go of his hands quickly.
‘I have to go,’ you said when you looked at the time and realized it was almost time to teach your next class.
‘Go? I’m sure you don’t have to,’ he answered.  He wasn't even trying to hide his disappointment, it was written all over his face
‘Yeah, I really do. You know how professor Dumbledore pays me every month? He expects me to teach students in return. Crazy, I know,' you said sarcastically which made Remus laugh out loud.
'You're something else, Y/N.'
‘Very true. Glad you're all caught up now. See you later, Remus,’ you said and for a moment you stood there, unsure of how to say goodbye to your new friend. A kiss on the cheek seemed a bit excessive, a handshake weirdly pompous. Remus decided for you and pulled you into a quick but very warm and comfortable hug.
‘See you later, Y/N,’ he said and you started walking back to the castle.
When you entered the castle a few minutes later, you noticed you were still wearing his cloak.

The full moon came and went and just like that, you hoped everything would be normal again. That Remus would feel like himself again and that his anxious mood would have lifted. You barely slept the night of the full moon. You knew there wasn’t anything you could do for Remus, but still you couldn’t relax.
Eventually, after spending most of the night tossing and turning, you woke up from a short but intense nightmare at 5:00am and decided to just get up. You took a quick shower and got dressed. You had never been a morning person, but there wasn’t a chance you would get any more sleep. Maybe Remus had already returned to the castle after his transformation and wanted to talk to someone.
And so you started to walk to his office on the second floor. But before you even arrived at the staircase, you heard someone behind you cough. When you turned around you saw Albus Dumbledore with a smile on his face.
‘Y/N? What a happy coincidence to meet you here. I was just on my way to see you. Excuse my early visit, I hope it’s not a problem.’
‘Of course, headmaster, is there anything I can do for you?’ you asked him.
‘No, not for me per se. But I wanted to ask you to perform a couple of healing spells on someone,’ he explained vaguely.
‘Of course, headmaster,’ you replied. When you worked for the department of Magical accidents and catastrophes you had to deal with lots of magical injuries and you had perfected your healing spells over the years.
‘I expected nothing less. Would you please accompany me to the second floor?’ he asked and you nodded.
You walked with professor Dumbledore and hoped he would explain the situation on your way to the second floor, but when he didn’t you couldn’t help yourself but ask about it.
‘If you don’t mind me asking, professor, why do you need me for healing spells? I think Poppy is way more skilled in such spells.’ Professor Dumbledore grinned when you mentioned the name of the school's matron.
‘You’re very modest, Y/N.From what I heard you have a real talent for healing. Isn’t it correct that the head Healer at St. Mungo’s offered you a job twice?’
You blushed. You had no idea how professor Dumbledore even knew about this, but the Healer in charge of the magical hospital had contacted you several times over the years to offer you a job as a Healer for the department of spell damage. You had liked your job at the ministry too much to leave.
‘Yes, that’s  true. But still. Poppy tends to sick and injured students every day. I can hardly imagine my spell work is better than hers,’ you said quietly.
'I need you because the issue at hand is delicate. I rather not inform more people than absolutely necessary,' he simply said. You walked besides professor Dumbledore in silence until you arrived at a door you recognized all too well. It was this door you always passed with a racing heart. Remus' office. The headmaster stopped walking and knocked on the door.
When the door opened you felt your heart sink. The man who appeared in the doorway looked terrible. His green eyes were bloodshot, his hair was messy and dirty and there were bloodstains on his clothes.
'Albus, I thought you would bring Poppy,' Remus said and he worked very hard to avoid eye contact with you.
'Forgive me, Remus, for not being clear, but I don’t want Poppy involved. I don't want too many people to know about your condition. Y/N is very capable of healing you. If you don't mind, I'll leave you to it, I'm afraid my presence is needed elsewhere,’ the headmaster said and with that, he left.
Now that it was just the two of you, standing opposite each other, Remus looked at you. It was obvious he felt uncomfortable, embarrassed even.
'You don't have to do this, Y/N. I never asked Dumbledore to fetch you. He just said he would get someone to heal my wounds,’ Remus mumbled.
'It’s okay, Remus, I can help. Can I come in? I don't think it's a good idea to keep standing here in the hallway. Someone might see us.' You meant him, because he was the one covered in blood, but you thought it best not to say that out loud.
'I think I'll just clean up a bit and I'll be fine, I'll see you later,’ Remus answered.
'Not going to happen, Remus. That cut under your collarbone looks quite deep. It'll just take me a minute to heal it,' you pressed on. He sighed, then moved away a tiny bit and you were able to get into his office.
'Please sit down and would you mind…' your shyness got the better of you and you felt your cheeks burning.
‘What is it?’ he asked after he sat down behind his desk.
'Would you mind taking off your shirt? I need to see the wound,' you explained. You looked into his eyes and then let your gaze travel over the rest of his body. He was hurt. Dirty. Covered in mud and half dried blood and Merlin knows what else but still you were so deeply attracted to him you had a hard time focusing on what you had to do. Remus didn't reply but took his shirt off. He flinched when the fabric touched the wound.
You pointed your wand at the wound and muttered the spells under your breath. The wound closed quickly, like the skin melted back together. Another spell wiped the blood away.
'Good as new,' you said with a weak smile when you were done and you put your wand away.
'Why did Dumbledore send you? He could have done this himself, right?' Remus asked when you were finished. You were hyper aware of the fact that he was still shirtless so you averted your gaze.
'Maybe he was busy,' you said, but you weren't convinced. Professor Dumbledore would have been able to heal the wounds as well, he had to have a different motive.
'Or he thought you would appreciate the company. Make you feel less alone. He knows we were in the same year at Hogwarts. Maybe he thinks we’re friends,' you stopped talking when you noticed you were rambling.
‘I’ve been transforming once a month ever since I was a kid. I don’t need you to look after me, I’m perfectly capable of being on my own, I’ve always been alone during this time,’ was his snapped response.
‘That’s not true.’ It seemed weird to contradict him. Out of bounds, but you did it anyway. He looked at you puzzled.
‘Excuse me?’
‘Well, in the past you always had your friends to support you, right? I could be your friend now,’ you heard yourself say. You hated the word friend in this context because you longed to be more than just a friend, but you didn't say that.
‘I’ve grown up, Y/N. I can handle it by myself without dragging innocent people into dangerous situations.’
You sighed and rolled your eyes. Remus’ stormy mood was getting on your nerves. You were trying so hard to stay calm, but enough was enough.
‘Okay. Fine. Spend the most difficult time of your life alone then. Wallow in your misery. I’m tired of trying to help you, Remus. I’ve been nothing but kind to you and you keep pushing me away. I’m over it.’ And without another word, you stormed out of his office, leaving him by himself.
~~**~~
That afternoon when you had some time to kill before your last lesson of the day, you went to the staff room. It was deserted and you chose a spot in front of the fireplace. When you just opened the book you had been reading, Minerva McGonagall entered the room. When she saw you, she walked over and sat down next to you.
'Hi Minnie, how are you?' you asked friendly. Over the last couple of weeks you and Minerva had grown a bit closer. You really liked her company and enjoyed talking about all different kinds of subjects. Minerva’s intelligence impressed you and you wondered sometimes why the Sorting Hat didn’t put her in Ravenclaw.
'Are you okay? What's bothering you, Y/N?’ Minerva asked, ignoring your question. She looked at you from over her glasses.
'Nothing, Minnie,’ you answered quickly. Too quickly because when you heard the words leave your mouth, you didn’t even believe them yourself.
'I can tell there’s something going on. And you didn’t show up for breakfast today. Or lunch. You can tell me what’s wrong,’ she said sternly, but there was kindness in her eyes.
'I’m worried about Remus. I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to help him, but he kept pushing me away and this morning we had an argument. Now I feel bad,’ you explained quickly.
'I think Remus fancies you,’ she stated in response.
‘Minnie, what are you talking about? I just explained to you how he keeps pushing me away. He doesn’t fancy me, he probably thinks I’m annoying.’
But Minerva simply shook her head.
‘He doesn’t want you to get close to him because he’s afraid to hurt you. I’ve seen the way he looks at you when he thinks no one is watching, Y/N. I’d bet the Quidditch cup on it he fancies you. And you know how serious I am about Quidditch.’
You started laughing. Before either of you could say anything else, your attention was drawn to the door because you heard someone enter. Your laugh died on your lips when you saw it was Remus. You really hoped he didn't hear what you and Minerva had been talking about. You expected him to leave at the mere sight of you, but he walked to you with purpose in his step.
‘Hey Y/N. If Minnie doesn’t mind, would you like to take a walk with me?’ Remus asked softly. He looked at you with a pleading look in his eyes and you found yourself on your feet in no time.
‘No problem at all,’ Minerva answered with a knowing smile.
‘After you,’ Remus said gallantly and you felt his eyes burn on you when you walked out of the staff room.

Dress - Harry J. Potter
I don’t want you like a best friend. Only bought this dress so you could take it off.
Tumblr media
Harry J. Potter x Fem!reader
~1,1K words Summary: After defeating Lord Voldemort Harry Potter wants nothing more than to be happy. To have an easy, simple life. Be boring for a while. Things have changed. The golden trio becomes a loved-up duo and leaves Harry spending more time by himself than he likes. Things with Ginny Weasley just didn’t work out, both of them have changed and they have gone their separate ways. He spends more and more time with you, his best friend and decides to ask you to be his plus one at Ron and Hermione’s wedding.
Author’s note: this is pure, sickly sweet fluff inspired by the TS song Dress. Hope you enjoy, please leave me a comment or reblog, it makes my day!
~~**~~
It would make me so happy to go to R&H’s  wedding together. Will you go with me?,’ Harry had written to you a few weeks earlier. You had written your reply with shaking hands.  I would love to, Harry.
And so there you were on a sunny Spring day wearing a flowy, fairytale like dress that complemented all your curves, waiting for Harry Potter.
Ron and Hermione were getting married today and you were beyond excited. You loved weddings. Adored them. There was something so magical and promising about two people dressed up to the nines, in front of all their loved ones, making vows that would last a lifetime. It was even more special when the people getting married were two of your best friends.
You met Harry, Ron and Hermione when you were just eleven on your first day at Hogwarts. Being muggle born you didn’t know anyone who went to Hogwarts and you were so anxious. The trio was kind to you and accepted you into their little friend group. After the Wizarding War you remained closest to Harry. Ron and Hermione had finally confessed their love to each other and were making up for lost time by never leaving each other’s company or their home for that matter.
During those post-war years you and Harry grew closer than ever and spent a lot of time together. He was the best friend anyone could ask for, but lately your feelings for him changed. You had fallen for the Chosen one. The man with the lightning shaped scar on his forehead and the fierce green eyes. The kind wizard who was seemingly unaware of the magnetic power he had on you.
And then he asked you to go to the wedding together. Maybe he meant it just as friends, but you felt hopeful. Maybe today you were finally going to be brave enough to confess your feelings.
You arrived before Harry did and had some time to take in the beautiful scenery. The wedding would take place outside, in the idyllic backyard of Bill and Fleur’s Shell Cottage. There were wildflowers everywhere and champagne flutes floated through the air. You grabbed one and took a sip. Maybe a bit of liquid courage was exactly what you needed.
A faint pop behind you startled you and when you turned around you felt a mixture of comfort and anxiety when you saw Harry Potter had appeared behind you.
‘Forgive me for being late. You look absolutely gorgeous,’ he said after pressing a kiss on your cheek. You hoped he didn’t notice you blushing just a little. When you replied, he was still staring at you.
‘No problem, I only just arrived. You look very handsome as well, Harry,’ you answered. His dark green dress robes made his eyes pop even more and his hair wasn't as messy as usual. You liked his messy, raven coloured hair that never seemed to want to behave in a certain way and you had to resist the urge to run your hands through his hair to mess it up a bit more.
‘Please, everyone, take your seats. The ceremony is about to begin!’ Mrs. Weasley said rather agitated and you and Harry both went and took a seat at the front.
The ceremony was intimate and beautiful. You were sure Ron had had a bit too much to drink before, he slurred his words a bit during his vows and his posture was a bit unsteady. Hermione looked radiant, even more beautiful than on a normal day.
Maybe it was wishful thinking, but you thought you felt Harry’s eyes wander to you at least a couple of times during the ceremony. You were very aware of your upper legs touching ever so slightly and when you wiped away a few happy tears, he squeezed your hand softly.
When Ron and Hermione were officially husband and wife and the newlyweds were sharing a passionate kiss, everyone got up and cheered.
‘Let’s celebrate!’ Ron yelled enthusiastically. The chairs were magicked away which made space for a dancefloor. Harry took your hands and the both of you started to dance. You let him lead you over the dancefloor, never breaking eye contact for longer than a few seconds. After a while you two decided it was time to take a break and have a drink. Harry took two glasses of champagne from one of the floating trays and gave you one. You stood there in silence for a moment, looking at Ron and Hermione, locked into a tight embrace in the center of the dancefloor.
‘You’re my best friend. I’m glad we’re here together,’ Harry suddenly said with a beaming smile. You had always been proud to call someone as kind and authentic as Harry Potter your best friend, but now the words hurt you. They felt empty. Not anything close to what you actually felt for him.
‘I don’t want to be your best friend,’ you heard yourself say. His eyes widened in confusion and a few wrinkles appeared on his forehead as he frowned.
‘Well, I mean, I like being your best friend. But I want to be more,’ you said so quietly it was no more than a whisper. Harry grabbed your hand and leaned in a bit.
‘Well, to be honest, I didn’t ask you to come with me as a friend,’ he said with a slight flush on his cheeks. You looked at him in disbelief. Could it be? Could your feelings for Harry be mutual?
‘Is it weird to ask you to be my girlfriend at our best friends’ wedding?’ You giggled.
‘I don’t know, maybe you should try it.’
Harry took a deep breath, straightened his back and took both your hands in his, in a way very similar to the way Ron and Hermione had stood before them not too long ago.
‘My lovely best friend. Would you mind if I started to call you my girlfriend from now on?’
‘That would make me very happy,’ you answered. Harry looked relieved and then came a bit closer. His face was just inches away from you.
‘I guess that since you’re my girlfriend now, I finally get to kiss you.’
‘I guess you’re right,’ you said with a smile on your face. He leaned in and pressed his lips on yours. Even though you had fantasized about this moment for so long, it was way better in reality. His lips were softer than you could have imagined and the touch of them woke a million butterflies that had been sleeping in your stomach.
‘Okay, now let’s go and find a place where I can take off that dress. It’s absolutely gorgeous, but I think I like what’s underneath it even more,’ he said with a mischievous smile.

The Chosen One
Harry Potter x fem!WitchReader
Fluffy short story
820  words
Summary:  A year after the Second Wizarding War, when the Chosen One defeated Voldemort, you meet Harry Potter at Auror training. You can’t help but feel drawn to him, but not for the reasons he expects.
Tumblr media
His green eyes were so bright you had a hard time focussing on anything else.
Sure, he had a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt that had made him famous before he could even talk, but that was not what interested you. He looked kind, a bit lost and you couldn't deny he was very attractive. He sat a few seats away from you, drinking in every word your instructor spoke. You tried very hard to focus on what the instructor was saying, but you were distracted by the man with the messy hair and bright green eyes. You knew you should focus, it was just your first day of Auror training and it had always been your dream to become an Auror. After leaving Hogwarts with Outstanding grades you knew this was the career for you.
‘Thank you for listening. Please enjoy your lunch, we’ll continue in an hour,’ the instructor suddenly said, which was followed with the noise of people talking and chairs being pushed back. You waited for the room to empty and then walked to the cafeteria. You suddenly felt very vulnerable and alone. You knew no one here and everyone else seemed to have made friends already. You passed several tables where people were sitting together, talking animatedly. Then you saw him again, sitting by himself, chewing on a piece of toast. You hesitated for a moment and then decided to sit down, you quickly introduced yourself and he shook your hand politely. He didn’t say his name, obviously used to the fact that everyone in the Wizarding World knew his name already.
‘Harry, can I ask you something?’ you had gathered all your courage to ask the man with the messy raven hair a question.
‘Yes, I did defeat Voldermort. I was the Chosen One and killed him. I don’t want to talk about it, okay?’ he said angrily.
When you didn’t respond right away, he looked at you.
‘Wow, you obviously have anger issues. I wasn’t going to ask anything about that. I wanted to ask if you wanted to help me with the Patronus Charm. I heard you’re really good at it and it’s the only charm I’ve been struggling with,’ you snapped back. You got up and were ready to walk away when he grabbed your wrist.
‘I’m sorry, Y/N. It’s just.. Three people already asked me about Voldemort and I just don’t want to talk about it anymore’
‘I understand. I’ll leave you alone then,’ you answered coldly. Harry didn’t let go of your wrist.
‘Please, forgive me. Sit down. I’ll answer your questions about the Patronus Charm.’ You hesitated for a moment, but you couldn’t resist the pleading look on his face.
‘So I guess you’re not used to having a normal conversation anymore. You know, being the Chosen One and all,’ you said teasingly after you had sat down and Harry had poured you a cup of coffee.
‘You’re the first person I meet to ask about something other than Voldemort in a long time,’ he replied with a smile.
‘Honestly, I don’t really care about that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m obviously very grateful you defeated him and all, but I mean, you probably talk about it all the time.’
‘Not when I can avoid it. Everything has been said. Multiple times. It’s time to look at the future.’
‘I agree. I am surprised though, to see you here, training to become an auror. I can imagine you’ve had enough of fighting the dark arts for a lifetime or two,’ you said, it was something you’ve been wondering about ever since you saw him this morning. He grinned.
‘My friends say I’m addicted to danger, that I am always looking for trouble,’ he explained.
‘Are you?’ you asked.
‘I feel like trouble always finds me,’ he replied with a smirk.
‘Well, I’ve been called worse,’ you answered quickly.
‘I… didn’t mean. I.. I’m sorry,’ he mumbled. You put your hand on his arm and gave a reassuring squeeze.
‘I’m kidding, Harry.’
The relief on his face made you laugh. For a moment you both ate in silence. It felt like you had known him for much longer than just today, there was something familiar about his presence.
‘You know, the Patronus Charm is quite complicated actually. It would be best if we practised it for a while. You’ll learn a lot faster that way than just talking about it,’ Harry suddenly said. You looked into his green eyes, not sure what to say.
‘We can start tonight, if you want to,’ he added.
‘Sure, if you are free tonight,’ you answered quickly. You had no idea where you had picked up the courage. Usually when you saw a cute guy you didn’t say anything and hoped he wouldn’t notice you, but with Harry things were easy, it felt nice and comfortable to talk to him.
‘We can go to my house, I have plenty of space. I live alone, you see,’ he explained.
‘Okay, that’ll be great,’  you answered.
‘I look forward to it,’ he said with such a beautiful smile it filled your stomach with butterflies.

Growing Pains - Remus J. Lupin part 2
Tumblr media
Growing Pains – part two
A Hogwarts Tale
Remus Lupin x Fem!WitchReader
2,8k words
Summary: In 1994 both reader and Remus Lupin are newly appointed teachers at Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. They meet again after 13 years, when they last saw each other at the very same school. Remus struggles with his secret being shared with the full staff and Y/N struggles with feelings she has for a certain someone.
This is part two of a multiple part series. You can find part one here
Masterlist
Your first few weeks of teaching flew by. You were pleasantly surprised by the level of skill some of your students had already reached. In particular there was a girl of Gryffindor house in her third year who hadn’t failed to answer a question correctly yet. It filled you with joy to teach the students and see their confidence grow and spell work improve over the weeks.
But not everything was great. After your confrontation in the corridor after the welcoming feast, Remus Lupin had been avoiding you. He hardly ever showed up at neither breakfast nor lunch and he was always one of the first to arrive and leave at the dinner table. Your full schedule of teaching prevented you from arriving at dinner early so you missed him almost every time. When you were both in the staff room at the same time, he avoided your gaze or simply left.
Over the past couple of weeks you had seen Remus a couple of times in passing, but that was all. You hadn’t picked up the courage to stop by his office to talk to him, too afraid he would get mad again. But still, he was on your mind more often than you’d like to admit.
On this particular afternoon, you decided to go to the staff room. You enjoyed being there. Most of the time it was a quiet, warm place where there was always a fresh pot of coffee and some snacks to be found. You had spent many hours curled up in one of the chairs in front of the fireplace reading, preparing lessons or correcting homework. You would be doing a mixture of all three for a couple of hours before your next class and was hoping the room would be empty.
When you entered the staff room, you thought no one was there. That was until you saw someone sitting on the floor, in front of an old cupboard. His light-brown hair was even messier than usual and he hadn’t even noticed someone entered the room, he was lost in his thoughts.
‘Remus? I.. How are you?’ you said softly. It was obvious you had startled him.
‘I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there, Y/N,’ he answered. When he looked at you, you noticed he looked tired. With the full moon approaching, he was definitely not feeling great. He adverted his gaze and concentrated once more on the cupboard in front of him.
‘What are you doing?’ you asked when he did not respond to your first question.
‘There’s a boggart in this cupboard. I intend to use it to teach my third-years, but I can’t seem to get the bloody cupboard to open,’ he growled. He got up and crossed his arms in front of him. You walked over and stopped in front of the cupboard.
‘Portabeto!’ you said with your wand pointed at the lock. The spell left a smoking hole where the keyhole used to be, but the door opened.
Remus looked at you and gave you a weak smile.
‘Of course. When alohomora didn’t work I was so surprised I didn’t know what to do,’ he said with a slight flush on his face.
‘We can’t all be spell enthusiasts,’ you said kindly. You just looked at each other for a moment. There was so much you wanted to ask him, but you weren’t sure of the timing. When a group of loudly chatting third-years entered the staff room, you raised your eyebrows at Remus.
‘Ah, yes. I invited the students here today to learn about boggarts. So if you don’t mind…’ he said, obviously wanting you to leave. You nodded, then leaned a bit closer so he could hear you while you whispered: ‘meet me tonight 8pm, my office. I need to talk to you in private.’ His green eyes pierced yours but without giving him the chance to answer, you left the staff room, hoping he would come.
~~**~~
It was almost eight o’clock when you put your quill down. After leaving the staff room you hadn’t seen Remus for the rest of the day. You had been determined to keep yourself busy grading essays while you waited for him in your office, but the nerves were getting the better of you. The longer you had to wait for him to arrive, the more you started to doubt whether it was stupid to invite him. Just then, you heard a soft knock on the door.
‘Come in!’ you said, maybe a bit too enthusiastically. The door opened and Remus appeared. His hair a mess and he was wearing a particular shabby robe.
‘Seventh floor, what a terrible location for an office. Lots… lots of stairs,’ he said with the tiniest trace of a smile, obviously a bit out of breath. You pointed at the window.
‘The view’s amazing though.’ He slowly walked to the window and peered out of it, hands in his pockets. You observed him for a moment. When he suddenly turned around and saw you staring you looked away quickly.
‘Please, sit down. Would you like some tea?’ you asked him. Remus nodded and sat down in the chair opposite you.
‘How was your day? Did it work out with the boggart?’ you asked while pouring two cups of herbal tea from the pot you just made. At first he seemed surprised. He obviously wasn’t expecting chit chat, but it felt weird not to at least make a bit of light conversation before you asked what you wanted to. He took the cup of steaming tea you handed him and then answered.
‘It went really well, actually. The students really enjoyed themselves and learned a lot as well. I didn’t let Harry have a chance with the boggart. I was afraid it would take the form of Lord Voldemort, but I thought wrong. The boy came to see me after class and told me his biggest fear was a dementor, so basically fear itself. Highly intelligent young boy.’ Remus smiled while talking, it was obvious he liked the boy a lot. Then you realized something.
‘Harry Potter? Of course, James and Lily’s son. Must be hard to see him, he’s the spitting image of his father. And if I remember correctly, it’s not just his looks that he got from his father,’ you said with a smile.
‘It’s hard. I miss James. But being able to teach his son is healing in a way,’ he answered, his voice soft, almost like a whisper.
You acted on impulse when you stretched out your hand and put it on his. He didn’t pull his hand away, but looked at you. His green eyes were so kind, it made you feel at ease. It felt like some kind of spell was broken when finally he did move his hand away and your fingers landed on the desk.
‘But you didn’t invite me here to reminisce about old friends,’ he said with a more serious undertone. You hesitated for a moment, but then decided you just had to talk about it. There was no use dancing around it, Remus knew you asked him here to talk about something.
‘So, the full moon is four days away,’ you said matter-of-factly.
‘I’m well aware, thank you very much,’ he answered coldly. You took a deep breath.
‘How are you feeling?’
‘How do you think I’m feeling?’
‘I obviously want to hear it from you or I wouldn’t have asked,’ you said in the same cold tone as he had used before. You knew this conversation wasn’t going to be pleasant, but still you felt like you just had to have it.
‘I obviously don’t want to talk about it or I would have done so myself,’ he said and he pushed his chair back, ready to get up and leave.
‘Excuse me for being nice to you, Remus, because judging from the way you’re treating me you want to scare away the only person who’s actually really nice to you.’
You were both silent for a couple of seconds. Remus had averted his eyes, looking down at his own hands.
‘I’m sorry, Y/N.’
When he looked at you again, you noticed his green eyes stared at you remorsefully. You didn’t say anything. Not only was it very painful to be rejected by him so loudly, you also didn’t know what to say, scared to anger him again.
‘ I know you mean well, but I don’t want to talk about it. You have enough on your plate already without my problems added to it as well,’ he said calmly.
‘I have absolutely nothing on my plate. Consider my plate empty,’ you replied quickly. When he looked at you in disbelief, you knew you had pushed it too far.
‘Well, okay, it’s not exactly empty, but there is space. I wouldn’t ask if I couldn’t handle it, Remus.’
He sighed and then looked at you again as if he was trying to figure out if you could indeed handle it.
‘You’re not going to drop this, are you?’ he asked and you shook your head immediately.
‘Not a chance.’
‘Why would you want to help me? Not only am I dangerous, I’m also a bit rude,’ he said. You raised one of your eyebrows.
‘A bit rude? Understatement of the century, mister Lupin.’ He laughed, the first genuine smile you saw from him in a long time.
‘Yeah, you’re right. I’ve been very rude. I thought it would scare you away, but you’re very persistent. And you’re avoiding my question. Why would you want to help me?’ he asked. He kept looking at you with his mossy eyes and you were the first to look away.
‘I like you,’ you heard yourself say and immediately you wish you could take those words back. They sounded heavy, inappropriate and spoken too soon.
‘I mean when you’re not acting like a complete jerk, you’re actually really kind. And I strongly believe people shouldn’t be judged by something they can’t help. I know what it feels like to be isolated and alone and I don’t wish that upon anyone else. And you’re the only person who’s been genuinely nice to me, before you decided to ignore me for weeks.’ Your words tumbled out of your mouth quickly.
Remus seemed to consider your words for a bit.
‘I thought you and Severus were very good friends,’ he suddenly said. For a moment you thought he was kidding, but the serious look on his face told you otherwise.
‘Friends? Not at all. We sometimes sit next to each other at breakfast. And last week, I  let him borrow one of my books. Yeah, that’s about the depth of our friendship,’ you said sarcastically.
‘He speaks very highly of you to the other teachers. I’ve never heard him compliment another person ever before, so I assumed you must be friends. But then again, he always had a thing for bright and pretty witches.’ Remus’ flushed cheeks matched your own in the silence that followed.
‘Okay, he officially freaks me out even more now. But stop changing the subject. We were going to put your problems on my almost empty plate,’ you encouraged him.
‘Well, as you might have noticed with the full moon approaching, I start to feel different. On edge. My temper is short. I sleep badly. My body aches. The Wolfsbane potion will make sure I get to keep my sanity when I tranform. When I first arrived at Hogwarts, Dumbledore arranged a place where I could go during my transformations. I will go there again during the full moon. Should keep me and everyone else safe. When the full moon is over, I return to the castle and need a few days to recover.’
When he stopped talking you looked at him. It seemed as if a certain weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
‘Your turn,’ he said. You looked at him with raised eyebrows.
‘Well, since we’re sharing our deepest, darkest truths, I want you to tell me about your late husband.’
It felt as if all the oxygen had disappeared from the room. You felt uneasy, overwhelmed by a sudden knot in your stomach and a lump in your troath.
‘I don’t talk about that.’
‘Yeah, that’s not going to happen, Y/N. I talked about the wolf thing, you talk about this. I want to understand it. Support you.’
You knew Remus was right. It would help to talk about it to someone new. Someone who wasn’t there when it happened, who never even knew your late husband that well. You had always had a hard time talking to people about your husband’s death when they had their own grief as well. You never felt like you could openly talk about him because you wanted to reassure others. You considered for a moment, then decided you wanted to talk about it to Remus. He would listen to your every word and maybe that was exactly what you needed right now.
‘After we left Hogwarts, he became an auror. He was a very good one. Great at defensive spells. Everyone loved working with him, felt safe when he was around. On that particular day, he and his colleague were called to this abandoned house. People in the neighborhood had been hearing screaming and weird noises for weeks. My husband and his colleague entered the house and they split up to search it.’
You stopped talking for a moment. You were getting to the part of the story that was hard to tell. Remus noticed this and this time it was him who leaned forward to grab your hand. He gave an encouraging squeeze and you took a deep breath before you continued to talk.
‘He went to inspect the upstairs area. It was an ambush. There were several Death Eaters there waiting for him. He got hit by a killing curse from one of them. I later found out my husband had been responsible for arresting a huge number of Death Eaters and this was their revenge. His colleague was able to escape.’ Your eyes felt watery and you stared at your hand, the one that was still covered with Remus’ scarred one. He was the first to speak again.
‘You said he had gotten into an accident at work. This was definitely not an accident.’ Suddenly you just couldn’t remain seated. You got up and started pacing. You heard Remus get up as well and you stopped in front of the window, with your back to him so he wouldn’t see the few tears that had escaped from your eyes.
‘I know it wasn’t an accident, it just sounds better, so that is what I usually say when I can’t avoid the subject,’ you replied after a while. Remus didn’t say anything, but he had walked up to you, stopped when he was just inches away from you. You could feel his warm breath against your hair. He put an arm around your shoulders and pulled your body against his. There was no need to talk. Nothing to say, just being held by him was all you needed in that moment. There was an urge to turn around and kiss him, but you weren’t brave enough.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. You two broke apart as if you were being struck by lightning.
‘Come in,’ you said after quickly wiping your eyes. The door opened and Severus Snape appeared, holding a smoking goblet. He was looking through the curtains of his greasy hair with a look of disgust on his face.
‘There you are, Lupin. Minerva said you asked her for directions to Y/N’s office so I knew where to find you. You seem to have forgotten your potion. A very unwise action so close to the full moon, but apparently you were too caught up seducing our new Charms Professor,’ he said coldly.
‘Severus, thank you. I seem to have forgotten the time. I apologize,’ Remus said quickly, but Severus ignored him.
‘Is everything okay, Y/N? I’d like to remind you that the full moon is only four days away and when the wolf in question is so indifferent about taking his potion on time, you should be careful around him,’ he said to you, his black eyes piercing yours. Before you could respond, Severus left again.
‘Yeah. I should leave as well. I need to take this potion and I need to rest. It was lovely talking to you, Y/N,’ Remus said.
You nodded. You had no idea what to say to him. You wanted him to stay, but felt like you couldn’t ask that. You weren't sure why you felt so brave all of a sudden, but you got on you tiptoes and wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling his body towards yours in a tight embrace. For a moment you stood there, his strong arms squeezing around you tightly. You never wanted this moment to stop, but after a while you broke apart.
‘I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night, Y/N,’ he said before he left, leaving you alone with your confusing feelings.

You saw him at exactly the same moment he saw you. Thirteen years had gone by ever since you saw him, in this same castle before you both went your separate ways. You were pleased to notice he hadn’t changed much. Sure, he had gotten older, just like yourself, but you would recognize those green eyes and kind smile everywhere. Remus Lupin was standing by himself, surrounded by the other teachers, some of whom were your own teachers during your time at Hogwarts.
As soon as Remus caught your eyes, he smiled and quickly approached you. He seemed happy to see a familiar face.
When he got closer you noticed he had definitely changed more than you assumed at first. His eyes, still kind and friendly, were lined and his face was covered in scars. His clothes were old and repaired at different places.
‘Y/N L/N? What a pleasant surprise to see you here,’ he said after he placed his hand on yours for a moment.
‘Or did you end up changing your last name?’ he added with a grin. His comment made your blood freeze. You shook your head in response.
‘It’s just L/N. How are you, Remus. I wasn’t expecting you here.’
His grin turned into a proper smile.
‘Really? I always assumed you would marry your high school sweetheart as soon as you left Hogwarts as Head Boy and Head Girl.’
You didn’t respond right away. Maybe lying would be easier, but then again, the truth always came out and you weren’t looking forward to having explain why you lied about such a crucial part of your life story. Something that had changed you forever.
‘We did actually. Get married,’ you said softly, hoping no other person but Remus would hear your words. His eyes widened, observing you with a puzzled look in his eyes, as if he was trying to solve a mystery.
‘You got divorced.’
‘He died.’
Remus took a step back, creating more space between the two of you and you immediately wish you never told him. His smile had disappeared as easily as it had appeared and he looked at you with worry written all over his face.
‘I’m so sorry I asked, Y/N. I had no idea.’ He extended his hand, but never let his fingers touch you. Instead he let them float in the air, as if he was not sure where to put them.
‘It’s okay, Remus. It happened five years ago. He got into an accident at work,’ you explained with a weak smile. The widow part of your life story was always a bit awkward to discuss and you tried to avoid talking about it whenever it was possible.
‘I didn’t know you were a professor,’ you mentioned casually, desperate to change the subject but at the same time genuinely surprised.
‘I’m actually new here. Starting tomorrow as Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.’ He said this with a proud smile.
‘We have that in common. Not the Defence part, but I start tomorrow as well. Charms.’
‘Obviously,’ he said matter-of-factly. You raised your eyebrows in question.
‘I remember you were an excellent student, even for a Ravenclaw. Professor  Flitwick used to rave about your spell work all the time,’ he explained. You averted your gaze when you felt your cheeks burning.
‘It’s only natural you take over from him during his sabbatical,’ he added. Professor Dumbledore had contacted you personally to ask whether you would be willing to return to Hogwarts to teach Charms for a year while Professor Flitwick was away travelling. You felt deeply honored he even considered you and replied by returning owl you would love the job. It was very different from your usual work at the Ministry, where you had been working for the Department of Magical accidents and catastrophes. But Remus was right, your spell work was impeccable.
‘You weren’t a bad student yourself, Remus, you were a prefect as well.’
He chuckled and shook his head.
‘Dumbledore mainly made me a prefect so I could keep my friends in order. I was weak of course and let them misbehave all the same while conveniently looking the other way,’ he said with a smile on his face. You laughed at his comment.
‘What have you been up to after graduating? I can’t believe we never crossed paths again,’ you asked him. His expression changed and he averted his eyes. But he never answered, for you were interrupted.
‘Lupin. Seeing you here is living proof the headmaster is very desperate to fill the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor to let someone like yourself teach our young witches and wizards,’ you heard a sly voice behind you. You turned around and saw yet another familiar face from your time at Hogwarts.
Severus Snape was looking at Remus Lupin with a look in his eyes that was something between disgust and confusion.
‘Severus, lovely to see you as well. It’s always nice to see a familiar face when you’re about to start a new job. Takes some of the tension away,’  you said sarcastically before Remus could reply.
‘Y/N? I didn’t recognize you right away. I see you’ve found your way back to Hogwarts as well.’ Severus’ voice had softened. The two of you had never been friends, you were simply too different, but you and Severus had always had some sort of unspoken respect for each other. He was smart, cunning and a bit shy. You used to partner during Potions from time to time because you both enjoyed to work with someone who was quiet and studious.
‘I have. And since we’re all colleagues  now, maybe it’s time to leave the past in the past,’ you said urgently. Remus’ friends James and Sirius had always bullied Severus and even though you were fairly sure Remus himself was never involved, Severus despised him by association.
Severus didn’t get a chance to respond, because Albus Dumbledore had started talking.
‘Welcome everyone. Before we go to the Great Hall to welcome our students, I have a few announcements to make. First of all, I’d like to thank each and every one of you extraordinary witches and wizards for returning to Hogwarts to teach our young minds. It’s an incredible honour to be in the presence of so many talented and dedicated people.’
Professor McGonagall coughed, which seemed to remind the headmaster he was going somewhere with his speech.
‘But let’s not dwell on that for too long. Firstly I’d like to introduce and welcome miss Y/N L/N. she kindly agreed to teach Charms this year while professor Flitwick is away travelling. Her magnificent work for the Ministry is proof she is more than capable to teach our students everything they need to when it comes to Charms.’ The headmaster beamed at you and started clapping. You felt a bit shy when the other teachers joined in and you were glad when professor Dumbledore spoke again.
‘The other announcement is a bit more serious. I’m very happy to welcome Remus Lupin, who will fill the vacancy of Defence against the Dark Arts professor. He is very capable and intelligent and I look forward to see our students learn from him. However, there is a matter that needs to be addressed about a certain… condition.’
You felt a lump in your throat when the headmaster spoke these words. It sounded ominous. You tried to catch Remus’ eyes, but he was staring at professor Dumbledore, seemingly unaware of your attempts to look at him.
‘Before I explain I have to mention that this piece of information should not travel further than this room. It must not be shared with the students. As a young boy, Remus was bitten by a werewolf. This forces him to turn into a wolf every full moon.’
The entire room had gone quiet and it felt like all there was no oxygen left in the room.
‘Fortunately, we have a very talented Potions Master in our midst who will provide our new professor with the Wolfsbane potion to ease the symptoms around the full moon. I’d like to remind you all again that this information is not to be shared with anyone else, especially not the students. Are there any questions?’
The headmaster looked around the room and a content smile appeared on his face when no one spoke.
‘Thank you for listening and please follow me to the Great Hall.’
~~**~~
All throughout the feast, you tried to get Remus’ attention, but you were unsuccessful. You sat in between Rubeus Hagrid and Sybill Trelawney, the game keeper and the Divination professor. Both were kind and asked lots of questions about your work at the Ministry and why you decided to return to Hogwarts.
However, the feast seemed to last forever and even though you had looked forward to be able to enjoy a Hogwarts feast after all these years, you could barely eat anything. The news about Remus had upset you and you wanted nothing more than to talk to him. To ask him how he was doing and to ask if there was anything you could do to help him.
It was a relief when the desserts had disappeared from the tables and the headmaster had send the students off to bed. You got up quickly as well, but you felt a strong grip on your wrist. When you looked up, you saw Sybill staring at you.
‘Be sure to visit me soon, miss Y/L/N. Your aura is uncommonly strong, I’m sure I’ll be able to see all about your future in my crystal ball,’ she said urgently. You nodded quickly and was relieved when she let go off your wrist. Sitting through an entire feast with her next to you had been dreadful and you had no intention of ever visiting her office, but you were just trying to get away from her.
Remus was already leaving the Great Hall and you quickly followed him. When you pasted the headmaster, you smiled and wished him a good night.
The corridor was deserted and you walked a bit faster. When you turned right, you saw him again.
‘Remus!’ He didn’t respond and you were no longer walking but running.
‘Remus! REMUS! WOULD YOU STOP WALKING AWAY FROM ME AND LISTEN?’ you yelled. You had completely lost your temper. Whereas you were always calm and collected, him ignoring you made you so angry you yelled at him. Your sudden rage felt embarrassing, but at least it was effective. Remus had stopped walking and turned around to face you.
‘I’m not really in the mood for small talk, miss L/N,’ he said without looking at you. This angered you even more.
‘Excuse me? Miss L/N?’ you repeated. You were so surprised at his sudden cold approach to you there was nothing else you could say. You started to tremble slightly.
‘We’re not doing this,’ he said coldly. When he finally looked at you, he looked even more tired than when you met earlier, his eyes bloodshot.
‘Doing what?’
‘Being friendly. Dumbledore explained everything. I’m dangerous.’
You shook your head in disbelief.
‘You’re hardly dangerous right now. The full moon was two days ago. You’re as dangerous as I am for about a month.’
‘You’re not stupid, Y/N. I am dangerous. I don’t want to get close to anyone. I’m grateful to Dumbledore for getting me a job and that is what I’m here to do. Teach.’
‘This is crazy, Remus. I’m not afraid of you and like you mentioned, I’m not stupid. I’m perfectly capable of choosing my own company and I choose you. I don’t care about your stupid problem.’
A tiny, careful smile appeared on his face, though it didn’t seem to reach his eyes.
‘You’re the first person to ever call me being a werewolf a ‘stupid problem’,’ he said gloomily.
‘Well, it is. It’s just a stupid thing. You were a child when you got bitten. There’s nothing you can do to change what happened. The only thing you can do is take responsibility and make yourself less dangerous. And according to the headmaster, you did exactly that. Please don’t isolate yourself, Remus. There’s no need to.’
He shook his head.
‘I’m sorry to tell you, but I have to. It’s safest for everyone.’ He turned around, but before he could walk away, you started talking.
‘Why did you act so nice then? Earlier? You knew Dumbledore would tell the staff about your condition. Why bother being nice to me if you were planning to give me the silent treatment afterwards?’
There was so much you didn’t say. Like the fact that you felt happier than you did in a long time when you saw him. How he had made you feel a little less insecure about teaching when he complimented your spell work from over a decade ago. How proud it made you feel that he had remembered your full name, even though you had been sorted into different houses and were never friends.
‘I was genuinely happy to see you, Y/N. I stupidly forgot I intended to keep my distance. I felt drawn to you,’ he said softly. The silence felt heavy. So many things were left unsaid.
‘But I have remembered it now and that’s just in time. Good night, Y/N.’ Once more he turned around and this time, he walked away.
‘I will not let you get away this easily. Trust me, you’ll want to have a friend around here.’ You had no idea if your words were going to persuade him, but you weren’t just going to let him deal with this all by himself.

Champagne Problems
Tumblr media
Sometimes you just don’t know the answer, ‘til someone’s on their knees and askes you. ‘She would’ve made such a lovely bride, what a shame she’s fucked in the head,’ they said.
Author: moon-witchs-world
Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson x  Witch! Reader
Words:831
Warnings: One swear word, lots of heartbreak
Summary: When an original vampire gets down on one knee, he gets a different response than he had hoped for.
Author’s note: heavily inspired by TS’s Champagne Problems, one of my favourite songs of all time.
It felt as if the world had stopped spinning. Your heart started racing while you looked at Elijah. Handsome, sensitive, noble, intelligent Elijah. He picked you up after sunset and hadn’t told you where you were going. Even though his request had been unusual, you had no idea what he had been planning.
You should have known he wasn’t going to invite you for a walk around New Orleans late at night for no reason. New Orleans hadn’t been this unsafe in years and he wouldn’t do anything that could potentially cause you any harm just for a simple walk. He picked you up at your apartment and then walked with your fingers intertwined.
You didn’t really talk much while walking. You assumed he was lost in his thoughts in the same way you were, trying to figure out the next move. Over the last couple of weeks the Original family had received many death threats. This wasn’t new or anything out of the ordinary, but the threats had been followed with actual attempts at murder. You and Elijah had fallen in love a little over a year ago and even though he was an Original vampire and you were a witch, you were a great match.
He was caring and old-fashioned, you were kind and powerful. Your relationship was mostly private due to the fact that Elijah’s family and your coven of witches didn’t approve.
The Original vampire had suddenly stopped walking. It was at that exact moment you realized something was about to happen. You had stopped at a park and Elijah halted in front of a gazebo. It was decorated with peonies and what looked like at least a hundred candles were lit. You felt a nauseous feeling in your stomach. Just when you wanted to ask what he was doing, he did something you never expected.
The whole cosmos halted in a pause by one action of the Original vampire. It made you mad. He must have known what your answer was going to be well before he even bended one knee. But even so he sat there, kneeled, holding a beautiful diamond ring and looked at you with longing in his eyes.
‘I am the happiest I’ve ever been, Y/N and that’s all because of you. I have no idea what challenges lay ahead, but I feel confident facing them with you by my side. Would you make me even happier and marry me?’
‘I can’t.’ It was nothing more than a whisper. The sight before your eyes was a painful one. A man, always strong and unbendable, completely shattered by a whisper. You immediately knew that there was no way you could have hurt him more.
‘You don’t want to marry me.’ His words triggered an anger you had been holding back.
‘Actually, no. This is not about what I want, Elijah. It’s never about what I want because that would be just too fucking easy.’  It wasn’t in your nature to scream, but you were getting so close to it you felt an uncomfortable pain in your throat. You were naturally soft spoken, but the emotion was getting the better of you. His dark eyes pierced yours and he just stared, like he was daring you to look away, like you were having a staring contest.
‘Then please, do explain, because I really don’t seem to understand.’
Overwhelmed by emotion you looked at him.
‘Where would you like me to start? With the fact that I’m a witch or the fact that every single member of your family hates my guts?’
Both of those things were true, but at the same time none of it really mattered. You loved Elijah. Elijah loved you. And it was the intensity, the pure and consuming love that scared you.Elijah didn’t respond immediately. The silence felt heavy. Every second that passed without either one of you saying anything added to the weight. Then he looked up, his dark eyes piercing yours.
‘Neither of those things is a good enough reason to reject my proposal. Marriage is between two people who love each other dearly and want to promise each other to stay together.’ He paused and sighed.
‘You should stop making excuses, my love. You’re afraid.’ His words were spot on. He knew you well. The fact that he remained calm was confusing. It would have been easier if he had gotten mad. Yelled at you. But his calm voice dripping with disappointment was worse.
 ‘I can’t
‘You don’t want to. The least I deserve is the truth, Y/N.’
You looked at him. Somehow he seemed a bit smaller, crushed by the weight of your words. Your rejection. You averted your eyes, unable to look at his disappointment. You had no idea what to say next, but you didn’t have to. When you looked up again, he had disappeared. Your eyes filled with tears when you wondered if you’d ever see the love of your life again.

This is so amazing, beautiful and heartbreaking and angsty and fluffy and all the good things! You described Damon so perfectly and this made me fall in love with him even more💕
Cats equal eternity [Damon Salvatore]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Damon Salvatore x female reader
Summary: Reader is a witch and in a relationship with Damon. Her mortality leads to problems.
Warnings: maybe slight angst
Word Count: ~2,2k
This was requested by @moon-witchs-world ♡︎ feedback is always appreciated.
You had one more day to pass until your relationship anniversary.  It was your five years down, and forever to go. You were head over heels for your handsome boyfriend, and he was truly, deeply and madly in love with you either. The beginning of your journey was rough. Damon needed a witch to free Katherine and found true love instead. You wanted to avoid getting involved with the problems and needs of humans, vampires or even other witches. You didn't practice magic this much, and it took you a while to convince Damon, that Katherine, the vampire he loved, never was stuck in the tomb. At first, he refused to believe, he was hunting a ghost. At least, you used a simple locator spell to show Damon Katherine was somewhere hiding in New York and never cared enough to find him.
After this reveal something in Damon broke into pieces. He felt betrayed, which made him flip his humanity switch. He yelled at you and threatened you to leave him alone, otherwise he claimed, he would rip your heart out in a split second. But he never did. His threats didn't impress you and didn't lead you to leave. No matter how often he repeated them with a stone-cold voice and a blank stare. Damon, who was a stranger to you at this point, never seemed dangerous. He seemed broken. Like a lost kitten with the anger of a grown tiger. Leaving him alone in the dark place he was never crossed your mind. You have sworn to yourself to make him feel again and get him out of the void. Only then you would find your way back to normal. At least, it took countless tears, plenty of broken bottles of bourbon and a night out to get Damon back to partly humanity.
The vampire wanted to feed on somebody at the bar, so you were forced to keep him company and pay close attention, Damon would just drink and not kill people for fun. While he looked out his next victim, he saw a bar tender "flirting" with you. You seemed uncomfortable and kept your distance. But the man was overbearing, didn't accept your reject. He learned over the bar, giving you a smarmy grin.  As you shifted on the bar stool, with sweaty hands and a racing heart, Damon finally flipped the switch back on and came to your rescue. He feigned perfectly to be your boyfriend, with such a smug attitude, the man got the hint and left you alone. "I owed you safety." Damon said back then, explaining his changed behavior. Later on, there wasn't any need to fake a relationship, but Damon constantly did this signature thing with his eyes. You felt licking flames where his gaze laid, heating up your skin. Your night out continued in a slow dance and had its peak when his lips brushed over yours. Indeed, it was bad timing, from that moment on Damon and you shared everything. A home, a future, your whole life.
Your lips curled up, remembering the very first weeks of dating. Your fingertips tracing over the box you bought on the  occasion of your anniversary. It was made of black velvet, with a satin ribbon on it - hiding a piece of lingerie. You chose the black set of lingerie because you knew how Damon would react, seeing you in it. Heavy steps on the stairs snapped you out of memories. With hectic and clumsy motions you hid the box back in the closet, slammed the doors and turned toward Damon with a wide smile and a few loose strands of hair, framing your lineaments.
The vampire raised his eyebrows and looked at you suspiciously. "Were you practicing magic? Did you just hide candles in the closet?" His voice was strangely distant. "We have had this conversation a million times. I told you, spells are dangerous. They make you a target. If anybody finds out, that you are a witch-", his tone making it clear it was not up for discussion. You took a step forward, reached for his hand. "Damon...", you began softly and leaned over, so that your lips slightly touched his earlobe. "You wouldn't be mad at me if you knew what I stashed in there."
Your voice was silkier than usual, more seductive.
The vampire cleaned his throat, running his hands down your body. His hands rested on your waist, while he left kisses down your neck. "Don't play games, kitten", he mumbled against your skin. "I was serious about magic. Or not practicing magic, to make it clear."
You rolled your eyes and escaped his grip. "I know your thoughts about my legacy. And I say it once again; I wasn't breaking our deal, bu-"
"This could be so much easier if you would agree to turn. Become a vampire, lose your magic. We would have the purest form of infinity. You wouldn't have a target on you." Damon gasped desperately. He never however believed that you could protect yourself, and he kept treating you like a porcelain doll. You understood why Damon was being so overprotective, specially with everything he had to deal with over the years - and the love he was feeling for you.
That was the reason why you agreed to stay away from your witchcraft as long as you live. You assumed, even a simple locator spell would be debilitating and painful. Maybe it would cause you nosebleed or faint. There was no chance of practicing in secret, no matter if you would like to.
Damon tried. He tried so hard to keep the people he loved safe because they were literally everything he had in life. That was especially applicable to you - and his younger brother Stefan; even if they haven't talked in ages. Stefan always kept a special place in his brother's heart.
However, you never met Stefan Salvatore. Damon didn't introduce you to his brother, and after a few tries, you stopped asking about him and their relationship. He always trailed off when it comes to Stefan. There was clearly hurt in the past. And Damon did his best to bury it with hundreds of miles of distance. Their bond had never upset you before because you knew that, whatever happened, he would tell you in due time seeing as it was his information to tell.
Damon's eyes were wide, his brows knitted, and he spoke in a deep husky voice, as he continued. "Y/N, your heart sticks with magic. But what kind of love can we have? We can be happy for about twenty years, maybe less, maybe more. And then, what happens next?" The vampire came closer, the sadness in his eyes multiplied a million times.
You made a dismissive gesture, your glaze never left his. "What are you trying to tell?" Your voice cracked, your eyes filling with tears. "Tomorrow is our anniversary. We... We love each other..."
"It means nothing!" Damon hissed. "It means nothing, when you die."
"How can you say that? H-how can y-you throw away, what we have?" Tears ran down your cheeks, your throat feel like it had constricted, allowing no breath to enter your lungs. Every fiber of your being been tensed as you listened nervously to each and every word that spilled from Damon’s lips. "Don't you see that I'm trying?", you sniffed.
Damon hesitated. A moment too long. His silence was a punch in your chest. In the next split second you ran. Out of the room. Down the stairs. Slammed the door and ran out of your apartment.
As the door clicked closed, Damon didn’t even turn back, only leaned forward, pressing his forehead against his hand in pure and utter dejection. He was too lost in his thoughts to pick up on you.
Without an aim you kept your tempo - you ran through the streets of Mystic Falls as far as your feet brought you. You tossed on a bench, heavily breathing under tears. The lump in your throat inhabited from screaming. You didn't waste a thought, that it was bad manners being outside alone in the dark as a young woman.
You needed to get away. From your whole life falling apart. You would inhale some deep breaths, wipe away the tears and finally return. To Damon, the love of your life. You never had fought like this before, never heard Damon talk about your love as senseless.
Inwardly, you knew, Damon didn't mean a syllable of what he said earlier on. Despite everything, it hurt.
With your eyes closed, recapitulating every single day you spent with Damon - you finally made a decision.
For god's sake, you'll let him turn you into a living undead creature. You flattened the hoodie you wore, stood up and maneuvered your way back home.
Suddenly, it didn't feel like a betrayal towards the other witches and sorcerer to give up your magic.
Suddenly, it didn't feel like a betrayal towards the other witches and sorcerer to give up your magic. Everything you ever wanted, was a happy life with the man you loved the most.
Back home you called out the vampire's name.
After you locked the door, you started searching for Damon. Your glaze wandered around, searched for him in every room. Nothing.
The time you spent outside was enough to make him leave. You exhaled a deep breath, covering your face with your hands. Your lips formed a silent plea that Damon was safe and didn't do anything dumb.
Your pull out your smartphone from your pants, dealing Damon's number. He didn't answer your call, and you blinked away the tears, that wanted to spill.
In the next moment, you were aware of some movement or motion behind the door. You stood up, moving towards the unfamiliar sound.
The door swung open in a heartbeat, so you could see Damon carrying one box in each hand. It took you a few seconds to realize, that these were not just simple boxes. The meowing from them gave you another hint.
You looked up at Damon, who had watery eyes and a smirk on his face. "Did you miss me?", he teased with his eyebrows raised. Damon found back to his sprite self - but nevertheless you easily recognized by his somewhat melancholy tone.
You nodded with a wide smile on your lips. Seeing Damon healthy and in a good mood had lifted the Pacific Ocean right off your neck. “I’m so much happier when I’m with you, Damon.”
Damon carefully put the boxes down, opening the first one. "This", he pointed at it "this bad boy's named 'Bacon'." A red cat jumped out, as he was finally back home.
You kneeled, opening the other box. A black furry ball climbed right up on your arm. "And the prince charming on your arm is Charlie", Damon explained happily. You straighten up, carefully petting the cat. "Naaaw, he's so fluffy." You were overjoyed. Watching Bacon exploring the living room while cuddle with Charlie was another level of wholesomeness.
"I already love them", you admitted softly. The next heartbeat Damon was right behind you, his arms wrapping around you tightly, unwilling to let go for even a second as he rested his chin atop your head, closing his eyes and just allowing himself to get lost in the moment. It was a wonder to him, the man who spent years in bars and clubs, feeding on people or causing problems, how something so simple could be so fulfilling so long as it was with the right person but, my god, was it. He couldn’t help the little smile playing on his lips.
Finally, Charlie jumped off your arms and leaned on all four paws right next to Bacon. Your hands curled up in front of you to hold on to Damon’s arms gently, your fingers like little dancers against his skin, softly tracing indistinguishable patterns, erupting tingles with goosebumps along his arms.
"Since we can't have kids, I got us two furry babies." The vampires voice barely audible. "This is my way to tell you, I am ready to spend my eternal life with you."
You bit your lower lip, cleaning up your throat. "Our eternal life will be pretty long, since I resumed, that you were right about the whole witch-vampire-thing.
I want a forever, what deserves to be called like that."
"I love you, Y/N", Damon whispered softly. "I couldn't be happier."
