Hhm not to be controversial but I can't see this without weighing in... so I'll say this: Bing Crosby is criminally underrated because people mostly know him as an old guy. He's adorable and handsome in his early 1930s movies! With and without his ears glued back (ouch). The magazines ragged on him because he was a little chubby but y'all. He was hot. I'll die on that hill. Plus his voice and jazzy/romantic singing (exhibit [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]) during that time were just 🤌💋 Frankly, I'm not even sure that I've ever heard a more pleasant speaking voice and cadence in my life.

People need to check out Here is My Heart (1934). That's just peak stuff. Very cute movie.

Ok and he was also peaking in Going Hollywood (1933) but beware that this movie has a scene of Marion Davies in blackface and is just generally somewhat bizarre.

I rest my case.

#bing crosby #can't believe i went to the trouble of creating gifs for this txt post when it's such a hassle rn on my laptop 😭#maybe it's bc i just recently became obsessed #and i'm not american so i completely lack the frame of reference of thinking of him as a christmas grandpa or whatever #(i knew the song white christmas obviously but hadn't even seen the movie until last year)#so yeah i'm late to the party but i could write essays about early bing crosby at this point #and i can't even pretend anymore that i'm not opinionated af about this 😭#love all the others too ofc tho (well most of them anyway)#honorable mention: howard keel #harry belafonte too if christopher plummer made it on there with one (admittedly strong) musical film to back him up #frank sinatra i mostly prefer in his early movie roles where he plays the nerd to kelly's 'alpha' male #starting to see a pattern here of earlier roles being the more appealing ones (same goes for fred imo)#actually also goes for gene mostly imo #maybe it's because these guys tended to be paired with ever younger female partners in the 1950s and i'm not about that age gap life #ok i'll stop here lol

I'll use this to also address the anons who made requests: I got them and I've added them to my list of requested movies! (Which is currently The Tales of Hoffmann, In the Good Old Summertime, The Glass Slipper, King Creole, Bye Bye Birdie.)

Also, my computer broke down yesterday so I can't make any gifs on there until that's fixed (seems like either the GPU or RAM need replacing). I still have a couple of sets in my drafts, so I hope that'll tide me over but just saying, the latest requests might take a while 😅
