On the run after Gusu was burnt down, Lan Xichen is hiding and recovering from his wounds. What he now fears most, however, is that his unseemly behavior might just have accidentally offended his savior. A Lan should know better than this, he knows, and he is determined to make up for it - except that Meng Yao might turn out to be anything but offended.

Written in January for the Italian p0rn fest #17 @landedifandom, on the prompt "Lan Xichen/Meng Yao - I will take care of you".

This was my first fanfiction in quite a long time, and also my first attempt at translating a story from Italian into English in years. My skills are rusty and it probably shows.

I dug out the notes for the rest of “Part of your world”. The next chapter was going to be titled “A different perspective” and the only word after the title is “it”. ANYWAY. The notes are kind of confused and lead to different possible plots, no wonder I got stuck there. I tried to put them together and this is how it could have turned out:

After the night on the shore, things get better between Io and Ryuu. Io starts giving Ryuu more attention, and Ryuu starts being less a pain in the ass. They go out together, Io shows him around, and grow close.

Seeing that things seem to be better, En, Atsushi, and Yumoto decide to keep their brother’s whereabouts secret for a little longer. However, one day Akoya follows them and sees Ryuu and Io together. When he spills the news to Kinshiro, he’s obviously mad and they argue, but eventually they realize they have to act together and decide to go to Hireashi and find a way to make the sorcerer dispel the magic. In order to do so, the take their grandmother magic trident to contrast the sorcerer’s power.

They manage to control Hireashi, but even so, Hireashi can’t just cancel the spell. Instead, the princes force him to turn all of them into humans, so that they can bring their brother back somehow. He doesn’t take their voices, but they are still under limitations: they can’t talk about the spell and about Hireashi, and, if they can’t break Ryuu’s spell before the deadline, they all will end up as Hireashi’s slaves. 

(There is also Hireashi’s backstory: he used to be a human sailor. The princes’ grandmother, the Queen of the Seven Seas, fell in love with him - Ryuu took it from someone, after all - and thought her feelings returned. So she offered to use her magic to turn him into a merman, so they could live together, except he didn’t love her but only wanted her magic - so instead he got turned into an ugly evil fish, and he has wanted to get his revenge ever since. I swear I had forgotten this bit completely wth)

In the meanwhile, on land, one night Io and Ryuu go to a tavern to enjoy the local music. Ryuu discovers beer, dancing, and how a piano works, while Io realizes that he might have feelings for Ryuu after all. On their way back home, they both are a bit tipsy. Io tries to kiss Ryuu, but it’s all awkward (neither of them has really figured out their feelings yet) and nothing happens.

The day after, Ryuu notices the old piano in Io’s house, and decides to try to play his melody on it, to make Io understand he is the one who has saved him. Before Io can connect the dots, however, they get some surprise guests: it is, of course, the six princes, all well dressed and with their voices, and carrying a huge fish in a bowl.

Shenanigans ensue: Ryuu is too ashamed and runs away, En tries out all the couches, Yumoto eats everything he can lay his fingers on, and so on. Now that they see Io in person, however, even Kinshiro starts to understand Ryuu’s fascination with the human world. Eventually, they all try to push the romance between Io and their brother, so Ryuu can at least be free of Hireashi’s power, but they end up messing things up more than ever.

(There was an alternate version of this part, in which they try to prevent the kiss from happening, Akoya gets involved, and drama ensues, but I wrote a “no” under this so apparently past!me didn’t want this to happen)

In the meanwhile, Hireashi manages to escape somehow, and the brothers need to face him before he can take Ryuu and do… the evil things evil fish do. They defeat him somehow, the spell is broken and all of them turn back into mermen.

Now Io knows it all, but he and Ryuu are separated. They meet again to say goodbye, and finally they kiss in a very cheesy and romantic scene with the moon shining and whatnot. They think this is their goodbye, but behold! The princes’ grandmother, the Queen of the Seven Seas, knows everything and approves of her grandchild’s love, so En uses the trident magic to turn Ryuu back into a human, and he and Io live happily ever after :)

If you were to write an ioryuu au what the plot would be?

I think I wrote (or started to write rather because apparently finishing fanfictions is not something I’m good at C: ) most of the AUs I wanted to write, IoRyuu included.

BUT there was one fanfic I was planning and I never wrote, which was AU (of course) and AkoIoRyuu, with side EnAtsu and IbuKin (I am that predictable, yes). 

It was to be a fantasy AU (you don’t say) with shapeshifter dragon!Io, elf!Akoya and half-blood!Ryuu. 

Io is a powerful dragon and Akoya a noble elf of sorts. They are married but their union is loveless, despite Akoya really wanting it to work, because for Io it is all about economical and political advantages and such. Then one day, during a storm, two vagabonds ask for shelter at their palace and it’s precisely Ryuu and En, two half-blood elves who end up spending winter at Io and Akoya’s court. Some courtiers look down on them - En being the lazy ass he is, taking advantage of all the court’s commodities - and Ryuu flirting around. But somehow Ryuu ends up breaching into Io and Akoya’s hearts, spicing their marriage up somehow, and so on and so forth. 

That would have been fun to write ahah, but I felt like the fandom already had many dragon!Io plotbunnies going around so I never even started.
