Rosegarden, Cinderella, and Fairytale Romance
0r Why I Will Eat My Glass Slipper if Oscar and Ruby Don't Dance by the End of the Show
-
Part of Ruby's arc in v9 is realizing that the ideals and dreams she had as a (younger) child are too ambitious and unrealistic. That life, huntresses, herselfā¦ they can't be like the fairytales.
It is a very big lesson to learn but, much like all things in RWBY, there is a push for nuance. Weiss and Blake even have called out in show that those storybook morals are too simplistic or black and white. Ruby is overwhelmed and breaking under the weight of her burdens and is being given the opportunity to either keep trudging on until it destroys her, or leave all of it behind.
But what about a secret hidden third option? Can she not leave Ruby Rose behind, not become someone entirely new, but ratherā¦ Choose to be the version of Ruby Rose she wants to be on purpose? And not as a result of other people's pressures or expectations that she's internalized for too long?
The point I'm trying to make here is that she can admit that holding herself to the impossible standard of an untouchable hero that always wins in the end isn't sustainable, but still find the intersection of fairytale and reality.
Now how does this tie in to RG? For that, I want to talk about two things:
The other canon romance plots in show
One of Ruby's smaller/more subtle 'allusions'
Of the three other big relationships in the show, each one's confession seems to fall into a very specific 'theme' (I understand I am generalizing/simplifying a bit but bare with me):
Arkos is rooted in tragedy: Pyrrha's death
2. Renora is rooted in reality: A two volume long conflict that ends in them acknowledging their feelings, talking it out, and agreeing to be patient with each other.
3. Bumbleby is rooted in a literal fairytale: A pocket dimension created specifically in the Ever After to push them into smooching (and y'know... confessing)
Rosegarden is currently in the tragedy stage. Constant separation over and over again leading up to Oscar being left in Remnant thinking she's dead and Ruby stuck in the Ever After not knowing how much time is passing back home and if he'll even be there when she gets back.
Reality we've seen for them a lot in how down to earth they are with each other. The constant quiet support. Oscar seeing past the pedestal, past the ideal, straight through to Ruby. Ruby seeing past the merge and seeing him fully as just Oscar.
But how do we tie the fairytale into it when Oscar isn't in Ever After to give them that storybook magic? Well, we go back to the earlier mentioned subtle allusion for Ruby: Cinderella.
NOW I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING. "But Chai!! We already have a very clear allusion to that character!!!"
Okay yes, but Ruby is a mirror to Cinder. We've seen it in their arcs as primary antagonists to each other, we've seen it in their costume designs with the parting of their hair and similar colour schemes. Cinder Fall, Ruby Rose (as in to rise). They are two sides of one coin.
Back at the dance in v2, Ruby arrives and is left alone by her friends. She isn't wearing glass slippers, but there is a whole lot of focus on how uncomfortable her shoes are.
She leaves the dance early after not having fun and runs into Cinder. And when the clock strikes midnight and the spell is broken? Cinder is at the dance in her pretty dress with Mercury and Ruby is back in the tower getting one of, if not the first big reality check(s) of the series.
This situation is teased by Oz in the episode prior with his little conversation with Ruby:
Ozpin: Not enjoying yourself?
Ruby: Oh, no aha, everything's fine. I'm just not much of a... dance-y pantsy... dance-y girl.
Ozpin: Well you can't spend your entire life on the battlefield, even if you may want to.
Ruby: Yeah that lesson's been floating around a lot lately.
Ozpin: If you think about it, fighting and dancing aren't so different. Two partners interlocked. Heh, although one wrong room on the ballroom merely leads to a swollen foot.
Ruby:Or a twisted ankle
Ozpin: It's not every day that friends are able to come together like this. Time has a way of testing our bonds. But it's nights like these that can help keep them stronger than ever. Nights like these are ones we'll never forget.
He teases that the dance is special. That Ruby should get to enjoy it because life has a funny way of creeping up quickly on these things. That these moments are rare and should be treasured... and he's proven right almost immediately.
Every other person in the cast got a dance - or something close to it - that night. Blake and Yang. Blake and Sun. Weiss lost her date 'cause Neptune's a goof, but they still got to sit down and talk. Jaune and Pyrrha had a moment on the balcony before he went to grab a dress and they all danced together. Ren and Nora. Penny even danced with one of her guards. Glynda and Ironwood too!!
But our hero didn't get one. All she got was a fight.
And see, this is where I think the 'fairytale' comes in. Ruby's had her reality check. Time and time and time again that fairytale spell has been broken. She is going through a metamorphosis throughout v9 to become a newly actualized version of herself, or at least find the start of the path that brings her there. But when she returns to Remnant what is waiting for her? More war. More fighting. More responsibility as being this symbol of hope and a leader for everyone. But part of her arc is learning to share her burdens with others. And the person that has consistently tried to do that with her without her asking for it, has been Oscar. Oscar, who is currently in Vacuo with who knows how much time passing wrestling with the knowledge that Ruby, the rest of her team, and Jaune are very likely dead. Oscar, who is now bearing the weight of this world saving mission without her there.
All I'm trying to say is that a celebration of sorts with a redemption dance, quite possibly in Vacuo, isn't entirely off the table. In fact I'd argue it's been teased since the very start, especially considering just how often they are posed as if they are asking each other to dance.
Also to go back to something Ozpin said "fighting and dancing aren't so different"... One of Oscar and Ruby's first scenes together, they are sparring in front of a sunset and they can't stop smiling at each other. They're just having so much fun with it.
Also their premiere moments in volumes 6, 7, and 9 are all RG in a fight of some kind. The first two Ruby is saving him from Grimm. The latter Ruby is being attacked by Neo's illusion of him. In volume 8, we don't get that. But we do get these two moments which also count for something (especially because dances and hugs are also quite similar in some ways):
There are going to be very high emotions when RWBYJ return to Remnant and what better way to celebrate that they are still alive than a party (and if not then, then after the war is over... but hopefully not THAT long). Where they can just 'dance and laugh and loveā¦ and just live'. Even for just a moment because who knows what the next will bring.
Ruby in v2 wasn't really a dance-y pantsy kind of girl... but post-v9 Ruby? She gets to choose the kind of girl she wants to be. Just the knight? Or maybe the princess too, even just for on day. And I think if anyone is going to offer her a chance to try it out, it's going to be her Little Prince.

I love these normal kids with their very normal knees a very normal amount. I love how their respective 'specialness' makes them the perfect match for each other because it means they can be 'normal' together. That is all ty for listening. RG canon okay byeeeeee~

Aight, after the panel and everything that was shown at it, I am excited as heck for the future of RWBY, and Kerry said to continue to use the Greenlight V10 hashtag on social media so I will happily do so cause I really really want V10 to come out
Iām also super hype for the DC/RWBY content thatās coming up and this still is AMAZING!

It really is annoying not being able to talk about something I love without immediately getting crap for it. People really are determined to not let people like stuff they wanna like even when they know nothing about it outside of critic videos, huh? Come into the same things being a fan of DC and Marvel, constantly.
I hate the discourse surrounding RWBY.
I hate that I can't even mention RWBY outside of its fandom without being yelled at.
I hate that RWBY has become the anti-christ because of a couple reactionary vaguely alt-right anime youtubers.
I hate that whenever I'm talking about RWBY someone will inevitably say "Dude RWBY sucks, have you watched hbomberguy's video?"
I hate that people who would normally call it a 5/10 have been brainwashed by hbomb and hero hei into assuming it's the worst thing ever.
I hate that every time I bring up RWBY anywhere, the comments are flooded with "I haven't watched RWBY, but-" "I've only watched season 1 but-" "I've only watched hbomb's video about it but-"
I hate how the people who have never watched a second of RWBY outside of videos titled "RWBY FAILED BY GOING WOKE" are the most eager to flood discussions.
I hate how most discussion even within the RWBY fandom has been taken over by these people.
I'm just fucking tired, y'all.

What kind of Faunus do you guys think Oscar would be if he were a Faunus? Cause Iāve seen alot of ideas- Wolf, Deer, Cat, and Bat seeming to be the most popular ones of the bunch. I could see any of those working for the Farm Boy

Iāll admit, while I may not be the biggest Bumbleby fan this side of the fandom (Some of yāall love it as much as I love RoseGarden and all the respect to you, everyone should be allowed to have fun with their ships), I am happy that itās canon. Because I think that Blake deserves true happiness. Sheās been deserving it for years, and she truly seems to have that with Yang. Iām one of the people who would be happy with either Bumbleby or Blacksun becoming canon, I just wanted Blake to find happiness. And Iām also happy for Bumbleby fans cause Iām glad their ship has became canon, it really is an amazing feeling to see something youāve been rooting for for so long actually happen. Iāve also met many Bumbleby fans who are massive RoseGarden supporters and/or have helped us out whenever others tried to make false claims against us or purposely took every shot at wanting to make us look bad, and those people are truly an amazing bunch; and alot of the BB shippers that I have met, atleast here on Tumblr, are just genuinely very wholesome folks. So, congrats on your ship finally being canon!

Yāknow, before Volume 8 I had no real strong feelings on Emerald either way. But after it? I love her, I cannot wait to see the Mint-Green-Hair Big Sister in Volume 10. It was great seeing her redeemed, she deserved it. Now if only we could get redeemed Mercury too. I want the Jaded babies together, dangit.

Jaune: Alright guys. I think we need to figure out a new team name. JNPR would work, but itās too sad now that Pyrrhaās gone.
Ren: Maybe ORNJ would work? Oscar does have Ozpin in his head so it would make sense for him to be the leader.
Oscar: I think Iām a bit too inexperienced to be a proper leader. I kind of like the name ALPN. It keeps Jaune as the leader, he earned that role.
Nora: TEAM NORA!
Jaune: ā¦Letās, just go with ALPN.
Emerald: What about me?
Oscar: Team ALPNE. It still works.

Iām very glad Jaune was deaged. It seems that a lot of people donāt get why he was deaged or were just mad he was because they donāt like his current design. But his deaging was essentially him getting a second chance, an actual chance, to age alongside his friends. Just now he has more knowledge about life and can help guide the others. Had he not been able too- it would have likely been very sad for him. Essentially it would be like everyone else was getting a proper shot at growing up and living life and he just feels like a majority of his life ended up being wasted. Iām glad to see young Jaune again, I missed him

Always going to love the idea of the RWBY ship color wheel theory cause everything just keeps pointing to it being canon, for those who dunno how the theory works, itās this way: Character Aās Primary/Secondary Color is the Complimentary Color of Character Bās Primary/Secondary Color
And the reason I love it so much, is because basically every ship that ended in a form of tragedy, didnāt follow this rule. However, every ship that is working out does follow this rule
Bumbleby (Yang - Yellow, Blake - Purple)
Renora (Ren - Muted Green, Nora - Pink)
Goldfinch (Ghira - Dark Purple, Kali - Gold)
Arcotta (Saphron - Orange, Terra - Blue)
Lost Boys (Scarlet - Rusted Gold, Nolan - Blue)
Also, RoseGarden and White Knight lines up with this rule, which is a good sign for those. RoseGarden being Green & Red, and White Knight being Orange and Blue
Then, the ships that were canon but didnāt follow this rule and ended up in a form of tragedy:
Arkos (Jaune - Orange/Yellow, Pyrrha - Red/Gold) - Pyrrha Died
Tauradonna (Adam - Red/Black, Blake - Purple/Black) - Adam Used and Manipulated Blake, and they broke up
Yellow Rose (Taiyang - Brown/Yellow, Summer - Red/White) - Summer Died
Phoenix (Taiyang - Brown/Yellow, Raven - Red/Black) - Raven left Taiyang
Ozlem (Ozma - Teal/Gold, Salem - White/Teal) - We all know how that one went
Please, no one get angry at this, itās just something that I wanted to point out- Iām not here to try and tick anyone off, itās just something kinda cool that I noticed over the course of the show. No one take all of this to heart and get mad, I just find it fun and think itād be nice if it was legit. As usual, rude replies wonāt be tolerated. Whether they be towards me or anyone who shares this. These are ships, they are all in the name of fun.

Okay so, this is something I have thought of forever and a theory I love- but Imagine all of team RWBY & ALPN had final costumes named after chess pieces, completing the whole chess metaphor
King Oscar
Queen Ruby
Knight Jaune
Knight Weiss
Bishop Ren
Bishop Blake
Rook Nora
Rook Yang
I just think this would be really cool! And help show that Oscar/Oz sees all his fellow people as important chess pieces, whereas Salem sees all her fellow people as disposable pawns, once used- they donāt matter. Also if anyone has ideas for how they could look, please feel free to post them below. Oscar absolutely has a Crown though, Iām just pining for Crown Oscar

ā ļøWARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD FOR JUSTICE LEAGUE X RWBY: HEROES AND HUNTSMEN PART 1 ā ļø
Okay so- Having just watched the RWBY/JL Movie, I can say with certainty that it was absolutely amazing! I would give it an 8/10 at least. Sure, the story can be a bit paint by the numbers at times with the power of friendship stuff but that really does not take away from how amazing of a story this is. Itās a story that will undoubtedly appeal to both fans of RWBY and DC Comics alike, which I am happy to say that I am. The villain of the story is not who you would expect it to be, and I like that, I think that them including in a lesser seen villain but one that makes sense for the story is a much better call than just saying it was Darkseid or Brainiac, cause while those are great villains, they are admittedly easy ways out. I also loved how all of the JL were portrayed. They all still felt very much like themselves and like they do in the comics despite being in younger bodies, so CRWBY did a great job of helping them all feel- right. I think all of the voice cast did a really fantastic job and if DC is smart they will absolutely bring them back to do the Younger JL in more projects. Chandler Riggs, Nat Wolff, Natalie Alyn Lind, David Errigo Jr, Tru Valentino, Jeannie Tirado, and Ozioma Akagha really captured everything that makes all their characters feel so special in the DC universe and brought it over really well into the RWBY universe. I would recommend watching it as soon as possible, but be warned, it is way more of an emotional rollercoaster than I am sure you are expecting. You may even feel yourself tearing up at some parts, I know that I for sure did.

ā ļøWarning, Major RWBY Volume 9 Spoilersā ļø
WhiteKnight - A ship I did not appreciate fully until the past few volumes
As I have probably proven with my posts in the past, My ideals on Weiss and Jaune ships are a bit odd. Iāve shown expressions of support for Arkos, Iceberg, and White Knight. And these are all ships that I love and always will love. But I wanted to make a post talking about how I feel about White Knight. Because really the more time and volumes have gone on, the more and more I really really love this ship and hope it becomes canon. As I have seen a lot of evidence for it someday being a canon ship, not quite as much as RG, but still a very substantial amount.
To start things off- I want to talk about Jauneās relationship with Weiss, cause this is overall a far less complex part but still very worth talking about. As we all know, Jaune started off with a crush on Weiss. But then that slowly faded with time, instead his crush being on Pyrrha, especially in Volume 3. But ever since then, Jaune has shown signs of truly appreciating and liking Weissā friendship. And for most of the recent volumes, he has at first seemed to keep things mostly on a platonic level from my point of view. But, the more I look into it, there is legit evidence he could still have some serious feelings for her. Especially in Volume 8, he was devastated whenever Weiss didnāt come back with Winter. And it could be argued that he even felt this way in V5, with his devastated reaction to her being impaled by Cinder.
Next thing- Weissā feelings towards Jaune. This is a bit more of a complex and fun part. Weiss of course started off thinking Jaune was unqualified and not worth her time, even finding him annoying. Although, she did start to feel differently about him towards Volume 3, seeming to overall appear more friendly towards Jaune in the few interactions they had. Then, there was Volume 5, where it was shown it seemed she did truly miss Jaune and his antics, and she was grateful for his help at Haven. Clearly she was happy to see Jaune again and to be reunited with all of her former classmates. Then in Volume 6, She was even quick to try and defuse Jauneās anger towards Oscar. Whereas around the time of Volume 1, she likely would have just made fun of him or done something else to make him even more mad. Then there was Volume 7, where she was quick to actually want to go see a movie with him and Oscar, a parallel to her rejecting his offer to see a movie together in the earlier volumes. Showing that she had grown more comfortable around Jaune in all this time. Then it became even more complex in Volume 8- to start things off- all of the characters seemed to be divided via people they were closest with/in a relationship with. Ruby/Oscar, Blake/Yang, and Nora/Ren. This would leave Weiss and Jaune as the last pair. That may not be actually concrete evidence but I do find it kind of fun and think that there was a choice there for symbolism, CRWBY loves the smaller details. Then we have the ending episodes of RWBY Volume 8, and in those Weiss showed more worry for Jaune it would seem. Even looking worried as he stopped boosting her aura and ran towards Penny. Then ofc, they sat together and she seemed to wanna keep her eyes on Jaune. Then finally, in the finale of that Volume, Jaune and Weiss were there for each other the whole fight. Weiss showing remorse for Jaune due to him having to kill Penny and actively wanted to help him out, physically helping him stand again after he fell to his knees. Finally- Volume 9. Of course we had Weiss saying Jaune was more āMature~ā and blushing profusely afterwards. But more than that, Weiss also showed genuine concern for Jauneās mental state and also was the first one to try and ease Jauneās mind over him feeling like a failure, like he wasnāt a good enough hero, and subsequently being the first one to hug him. She then also showed the most expressive response to Jaune being his old self again, giggling at his reaction to being back to his old self. It may not be the most concrete evidence to say she has feelings for him, but there seems to be a lot of stuff pointing to there being something there that wasnāt there before.
So while there may be less solid evidence for it than with RoseGarden, I really really like this ship and would not be mad if it became canon. It would make me happy to see these two get a happy ending together, they both deserve a happy ending after all.

Top 5 reasons I love RoseGarden
1. They help each other grow as people - Ruby and Oscar have really just helped each other flower into being the people they truly are meant to be. Oscar has became who he is due to support from the others, most commonly being Ruby. Meanwhile Ruby has became more of who she truly is with Oscarās help in more subtle ways. With Oscar, she clearly has someone she wants to constantly look out for and make sure that heās doing okay no matter what. Showing just how loyal and true of a friend she is to others, and how great of a protector she can be.
2. Theyāre incredibly supportive of one another - The two of them have done everything they possibly can to show how much they really support one another. Ruby was there to support Oscar when no one else really did all the way back in Volume 5. Then in Volume 6 she continued to express support for him and was the only person to remind him he was his own person. Later on in Volume 6, Oscar openly supported Ruby, letting her know he knew her plan would work. Then in Volume 7, they supported what each other chose to do and didnāt do anything rash until they came upon the agreement to be honest with Ironwood. Finally in Volume 8, Ruby expressed support for Oscar despite him seeing himself as a failure after not being able to convince Ironwood to listen to him. Then thereās also how the two of them have a habit of looking out for one another and being pretty commonly concerned for each other. Rubyās concern for Oscar in V6, Oscar yelling out Rubyās name multiple times, Ruby being the one to go out and look for Oscar in V8, and even in V9 Ruby showed concern for Oscarās well being both in the first episode- and the other scene, no major spoilers here but we all know the one.
3. The amount of parallels is INSANE - Okay so, Iāll try my best to not spoil things as well as I possibly can. But oh my God the amount of parallels these two have is so freaking cute and really makes you think. Oscar in V7 & V8 foreshadowed so much that Rubyās actions would mirror in V9. But even more than that, the two of them parallel other canon ships in the world like Summer/Tai and Ozma/Salem to a degree. They even have the whole Sun/Moon and Red/Green thing going on, not to mention Oscar only started wearing Red after he met Ruby and itās been pretty much confirmed that people in Remnant will wear the colors of their partners/love interests. Then thereās even ones that have yet to get the proper payoff. Like- Oscar and Ruby FINALLY hugging, letās hope that finally happens in V10.
4. The idea they found each other at the right time - They seemed to have found each other right when the other needed someone to help lift them up. Oscar had just been randomly chosen to be Ozpinās next host and the information clearly weighed super heavily on him, and Rubyās kind words clearly helped him feel so much better. Meanwhile, for Ruby, she had just lost a ton after all that happened at Beacon- so her having a new friend and someone who really trusts and believes her no matter what, it had to be helpful and make her feel like sheās really doing the right thing.
5. Itās too adorable to not love - This is the simplest reason, but theyāre just two little dorks and itās beautiful. The one reason thatās really not complex at all. I just love them.
