“Pros and cons of social media”- The benefits and pitfalls -part 3 How can we as writers on social media write on love, unity and kindness, or give advice saying we’re helping others when we are being critical, passing judgement or taking sides -especially without all the facts? This is hypocritical, demeaning and dangerous. Becareful not to become part of agendas that separate friends, fuel mistrust, form cliques and a mob mentality. Bad motives squash good vibes. It’s sad that we have to be on constant guard- and have slogans like “good vibes only” -to deflect -because of so much negativity around us. If you’ve taken sides without all the facts ask yourself what it says about your character. Social media is a place where everyone should have a voice. If you’re part of a social media “tribe” that has a reputation for slamming, bullying, controlling or intimidating others- rethink your tribe or at least speak up! Don’t stay silent for fear of retaliation. If they truly have your back they should give you the dignity of a listening ear without turning on you or making you feel guilty for not being a mindless follower. Social media engagement groups can become a force for good. They can be great supports and turn into long lasting friendships. A caveat; don’t let your sense of belonging lull you into thinking they are always right. Remember friendships are two-way streets. “Ride or die” is dangerous if the driver is out of control. There has to be a mutual respect even when minds don’t agree. If you feel you’ve become a victim of bullying, intimidation, or gossip take heart you are not alone. Taunting “Because we are not like them they taunt us. Because we are not like them we don’t.”-Artemis//Have you ever had a favorite sweater that you loved? It fit perfectly and it made you feel great every time you wore it, plus you received wonderful compliments. Then one day you realize someone has taken it without permission from your closet and is wearing it around town. But it just doesn’t fit them as well. They’ve stretched out the neck. They really don’t care as much about your beautiful sweater as you do. They’re simply jealous of the compliments you’re receiving. They could even buy their own but they’re too focused on yours. They just had to take it and make it theirs although it just didn’t fit the same. Maybe they questioned their own taste. Maybe they envied your contentment. Regardless of their reason- How would that make you feel? Somebody wearing your beautiful sweater in an ill fitting way proclaiming it as theirs- You kindly ask them to take it off and return it. However, they simply laugh and taunt you daring you to take it back. How would you feel about that person? That’s what plagiarism, mimicking, piracy, and theft of one’s personal artwork feels like.// UPDATE: As my previous posts relay, I was waiting for the writer’s response as directed by Etsy -to first respectfully ask the person to take down the piece in hopes they would do the right thing. Etsy said that many times that resolves the problem. Unfortunately, not in this case. This copycatter has replied with lies, taunts and a great lack of class. I can now exercise my right again as advised by Etsy to proceed with my infringement rights. This may result in Etsy pulling down their store. This is not my aim. I only want my copied piece removed, even though the party has shown very little class and added insult to injury by their callous replies - I still want to take the high road and make my decision based in a professional way and with a cool head. Mermaid Girl You walk on land but your heart beats with the currents of the tide-Artemis //This cute poem is one of my best selling pieces since 2015 as part of my long time Mermaid Tales © Collection.// Good morning everyone. With a heavy heart I am sharing that someone has copycatted this piece and is selling it on Etsy (With my signature mermaid tale!) Even though its a stamp which is available to all -it is a signature for my “Mermaid Tales” poetry Collection (What makes it worse is this person was very familiar with my Mermaid Tales Collection and design).I contacted Etsy and they see the resemblance and basically said its not direct plagiarism but very close and definitely in poor taste. They said it’s now up to me whether I want to pursue it where a case would start - I would approach the person, they would have the option to pull it down (or not) if they don’t Etsy would make the decision to close down their shop (or not). What a Sticky situation to put me in because someone chose to copy my work- and they’re pretty well known. I don’t want to make any wars or pull down their shop but I also have a HUGE pet peeve against plagiarism and copy catting. It’s tacky to say the least and dishonest and illegal at worst. It has also hurt my heart that they would do something like this. If you have seen the copy cat (this piece or others) please stand up against it. Nothing but hope and courage these days. “What we do with our time heals all wounds.”-Artemis// The age old adage of time healing all wounds is ineffective if we’re simply watching the hands of time go by. It’s what we do with our time after heartache or loss that allows time to be a healer. “Love is not an ingredient. It’s a recipe”. This is in my book Her Wilde Heart and it’s the secret to true love; Why can I say this so confidently? In Greek there are four words for love. Στοργι Φιλία Έρος Αγάπη (the recipe) When genuinely shared between two people this is a love that cannot fail. Στοργι (Storge) A nurturing love (family) Φιλία (Philia) Friendship love (between good friends). Έρος (Eros) Intimacy and romance Αγάπη (Agape) A principled love. Agape love is what makes you stick around even when you don’t feel the στοργι, φιλία or ερος at the moment. This fundamental emotion grounds you until the other loves reawaken. The “I love you even when I don’t like you” type of love.
