Blooming Out of Death

Chapter 3

Word count: 975

Squirrelflight’s eyes went wide.

It was almost like Mapleshade had read her mind, but that wasn’t possible. At least, she thought it wasn’t.

The ginger cat sat back on her haunches, letting her fur lay flat, though she did not sheath her claws, and continued to glare at Mapleshade. “Why are you here,” she demanded. “What do you want from me? And where are we?” Squirrelflight wanted answers more than she feared the murdering tortie.

Mapleshade laughed in response, a hint of an amused purr rumbling in her chest. “I’ve been keeping an eye on you,” she said, flicking her tail toward the short ginger cat. “I’m here to have a little talk with you, that’s all. Maybe we can see eye to eye.”

The huge she-cat stood, stepping out of the reach of the shadows cast by the trees, and padding out into the field. Once she was fully in the sun, she stretched out in the lush grass as though she were sunning herself. With a flick of her matted tail, she beckoned to Squirrelflight, urging her to join her.

Reluctantly, she trailed after Mapleshade.

The deputy’s curiosity was getting the better of her. Why was she actually considering listening to what she had to say? Squirrelflight knew she couldn’t trust the villainous she-cat.

Stopping several mouselengths away from Mapleshade, Squirrelflights sat down. Mapleshade cast a glance her way, then scoffed, rolling her yellow eyes. She shifted to face the living cat.

With a smirk, Mapleshade’s eyes locked on the ginger cat once more. “We have a lot in common, don’t you think?”

It was Squirrelflight’s turn to scoff now. She glared down at the Dark Forest cat. “I’m nothing like you,” the deputy growled.

The tortie cut her off with a sharp harsh laugh. “Ah, but that’s where you are wrong. We are much more alike than you realize.” When she didn’t get a response, Mapleshade continued. “Like I said, I’ve been watching you. Or should I say I’ve been watching you and Bramblestar.”

Squirrelflight felt her blood run cold. A Dark Forest cat had been watching them, just as they had been in the time leading up to the Great Battle. She wondered if they were planning another attack. Certainly with the deaths of so many comrades, the Dark Forest did not have the numbers to take on both the living cats and Starclan again?

Mapleshade must have noticed Squirrelflight’s reaction, for her smirk only grew. “I’ve known of Bramblestar for a long time,” she confessed. “Since Tigerstar’s spirit came to reside in the Dark Forest. I knew he came to train with his father and brother in his dreams as well, just as the recruits for the Great Battle had. Mind you, this was long before the preparations for our invasion. Back when Hawkfrost was still alive.”

Squirrelflight had been stunned into silence, a rare occurrence, especially for her. She always had something to say. But at this moment, all she could do was wonder why Bramblestar had kept such a secret from her.

The dead she-cat narrowed her eyes at Squirrelflight, watching her closely. “Don’t tell me you didn’t know!”

No response came from the Thunderclan deputy.

Mapleshade snorted in disdain. “That’s no surprise,” she muttered. There was a brief pause before she turned her attention back to the ginger cat. “I’ve seen the way he’s treated you. The endless seasons of his petty anger. That’s why I am here.” She drew herself up, sitting up at her full height and looming over Squirrelflight.

The shorter she-cat’s head was reeling. Bramblestar had betrayed her trust. He had betrayed the entire clan by keeping the Dark Forest a secret. The information he had, that Tigerstar’s spirit still walked among the clans, could have saved her father.

She stared up at Mapleshade, wide-eyed. “Why are you telling me this?”

The Dark Forest cat crept closer to her, laying her tail across Squirrelflight’s shoulders in a show of comfort. The living she-cat flinched away. “I’m telling you because I want to help you,” she meowed in response.

“Think of all the times Bramblestar has betrayed you. He refuses to listen to you. He abandoned you when you took in your sister’s kits. Even when your own litter was stillborn, he never cared.” Her voice had a bitter edge to it, as though she had faced the injustices rather than Squirrelflight. “When the storm ravaged the clan territories, he was mooning over a kittypet, in front of you! His mate!”

Squirrelflight hissed under her breath. She couldn’t deny it. Bramblestar had broken her trust, and her heart, time and time again. She lifted her head, a scowl settling on her face. “And what do you get out of helping me,” she growled at Mapleshade.

The large tortoiseshell’s eyes hardened with anger, glittering like chips of amber.

“My mate betrayed me too. My clan kicked me out all because I had half-clan kits. I was in love, and they punished me for it. Thunderclan drove me out, and killed my kits in the process. I went to Riverclan, and my mate for help, but they denied me. He felt no remorse for taking another mate when we were in love, and no sorrow for our lost kits. So I took my revenge.”

She leaned closer to Squirrelflight, her muzzle a whiskerlength from the small she-cat’s ear. “And now I will help you take yours.” Moving away, Mapleshade nonchalantly sprawled across the grass once more. “Of course it doesn’t hurt that my plan to help will also account for revenge on my own part.”

Squirrelflight gave her companion a curious look “Your plan?” Did the she-cat truly have a plan to help the deputy?

Mapleshade grinned, menace filling her eyes. “I knew that would get your attention. All you have to do, is kill Bramblestar.”

Drew another cat, Mapleshade this time. I'm actually really happy with this picture, even though it's not really the mood I originally wanted to create, but I love how fluffy she looks :3 (also I managed to get myself to draw at least a simple background, yay xD)

I sometimes like to call Mapleshade my "discomfort character", she's sort of a comfort character, but I didn't really chose her to be one (I actually used to really dislike her), she was just there and sometimes she also annoys me xD

I also made two alternate versions because I was playing around with layer effects and couldn't decide which one I liked best😅

I'm only allowed to make 3 warrior cats posts a month but i dont care im making another bc i had a thought. I hate the new SEs and novellas bc i miss how they went through the entire life of a side character and they were like 300 pages long but now they already show that in the series cause its been going for so long so they have to do stupid shit like make Leafpool stand on victim-blaming ghost trial with Squirrelflight as her attorney or something????? Idk i didnt read it i just heard. Also they COPIED me too i wrote Mapleshade and Goosefeather super editions YEARS AGO as a CHILD and i even drew covers for them in mspaint and posted them on the warrior cats online roleplay forums. When are they gonna steal more of my ideas and write novellas for Nightcloud and the rest of the dark forest cats huh????

i’ll explain the three same-faced designs below dont worry lol

more info abt these designs under the cut:

- i wanted Appledusk to look like an absolute chad so i made him bulky and gave him a preppy frat boy haircut

- i made Crookedjaw look eerily similar to Appledusk (like Appledusk if he was chonky and softer... ) to give Mapleshade a better reason to be so cruel to him

- i also may simplify his stripe pattern... im not sure rn but i Might....

- I didn’t put a lot of thought into the kits designs? but i did want Petalkit to resemble her papa and Patchkit, his mama :3

- SO UM. THE THREE IDENTICAL WOMEN AT THE BOTTOM. these gorls appear for 1 scene each. I didn’t wanna waste time making unique models for them so I just drew a Generic Riverclan Female base that I could slap different colors onto lol

- when i’m Actually Animating, I’m probably gonna differentiate them slightly? like give em different haircuts maybe? these were just to get the markings down so stuff like the haircut and the tail shape is liable to change

- I maybe went a little ham on Willowbreeze’s stripes? But its alright, again she’s only here for one scene so w/e

Another one of these. Like before I'm going to post the characters by number.

1. Tattletail

Who wouldn't see our favorite snitch? Baby Talking Tattletail is loud when I comes to mama popping out of nowhere, but I still love this fuzzy furry ... Tattletail thing :).

2. Yan-Chan

Ayano is a character I decided to draw because I was starting to become a fan of Yandere Simulator again. I stopped being interested in the Fandom 4 years ago. After we moved and all that, I finally got my dad to get the game. so seeing a whole bunch of newbies all at once when I started playing it for the first time surprised the heck out of me. That and all the new clubs, New methods to kill people, also rivals who I heard of a little bit, but not much. I missed A LOT of this fandom, because now I am hearing drama between the creator, YandereDev, and the fans. Apparently the game couldve been developing in two weeks, but it didn't, and he threatened to kill himself, which I don't believe he would do that. But it's stuff I don't really want to be involved with. But I do feel sorry for YanDev. Working endlessly for 6 years trying to satisfy the players and try to make a great experience for them in the game. So into the next character.

3. Applejack

AJ is also a character I wanted to draw because I hardly draw her, like at all. And I was lazy so I didn't want to draw her with her braids in her hair. (Or mane, whatever). So I wanted to draw her running with her hat flying of. (Totally not from Yandere Chan and her knife).

4. Timas

Tim was one of the 5 children you will have to encounter in a game called Wick. I just felt like drawing him again. Also I kinda want to beat the game, but I feel like I can't until my parents are in the mood to. After all, we started the game together, might as well end it together, too.

5. Reed

The Twelve fandom is way to underrated. It needs more love, and so does Reed. Reed is a sad, hopeless boi (kinda like Cypress :'D), and he has been abused by his dad, so he became abusive towards his ex, Ivy.

He needs love. Also this is him hunting or something.

6. Yellow Guy

Also known as Doi, or Manny to fans. But I prefer to call him Yellow Guy until his name is announced. But I get the fannon names. Also I draw him a lot for some reason. Doi is good boi. (I regret nothing)

7. Fone Bone

I'm pretty sure that the BONE fandom isn't a well known fandom (or if it is even a fandom) but I put Wick in here and nobody knows the fandom, either. (I'm not even sure if Wick is even a fandom, but I've seen fanart enough to think it is, so). I still like the book series even after my middle school years. So yah, great book series, hope people will read it. They don't have to anyways but I'll be glad.

8. Cub

Cub and Pop were really... Interesting characters in Happy Tree Friends. I remember this one episode where Cub was stuck in the garbage disposal because he was taking a bath and his father flick the wrong switch in the kitchen and instead of turning on the light, he shredded his baby's bottom half of his body. Death happens and such, maybe watch the episode just to see what happens. Now as I type about it, kinda reminds me of What Remains of Edith Finch when Kai leaves her baby in the tub just to answer the phone, which was ringing. And for some reason, the bath water started to run and fill up the tub with the baby in it still, and... Well.... You'll know what happens next. Anyways let's just continue.

9. Everyone's favorite sociopath who wants to blow up the school for love.

That's right, Yander- I mean... JD. Yeah, that's who I meant. Apparently he had a gun, because... oh that's right, he shot ran and Kurt for raping veronica. Man this musical is jacked up. But it's thrilling and I love the fandom. He is also my favorite. Not because I'm fallen for him or anything (like literally every girl or possibly guy who does). I'm not into fictional characters. I just feel sorry for him because of his past. And because he seems cool. (Shut up.)

10. Leafy!!

My all time favorite character from BFB. She is trying her best to be friendly and kind. She is having a hard time being wanted. So I feel bad for her. But that's not the reason why I like her! Before I posted this, I watched BFB 22 and I ABSOLUTELY loved it! Her and Firey FINALLY talked things out and I'm happy that they're proper friends again! So yah, I like her! It's because she had it ruff. Kinda like MapleShade from my last post. (Note: I drew her here before bfb 22 came out).

Warrior Cats Wiki Tortie Designs Ratings!

I was talking with a friend about the pixels drawn of torties on the wiki and just wanted to take a moment to appreciate each one. I’ll be judging them based on how realistic they are and how much I like them as a design.

To the person or people who drew/colored the pixels, this isn’t really a critique or bashing of your designs - a few of them I quite like! I’m just doing this for fun and to amuse myself for an hour and a half.

Alright, all the tortie kitties arranged by the Futhark, let’s go!

FIRCONE

this looks less brindled and more like an abuse of the airbrush tool. not bad otherwise. realism - 8/10 design - 6/10

FIERCE

the red part’s too gold and the brindling doesn’t look like brindling. realism - 4/10 design - 3/10

FINCHPAW

ewwwwwww..... that’s not how brindling/mottling works. at least it’s proportional to the amount of white. realism - 3/10 design - 1/10

FERNSHADE

the red looks too brown to be a proper tortoiseshell. not bad though. realism - 6/10 design - 8/10

ROBINWING

this is fairly pretty. but it’s not a tortoiseshell I mean, one could explain it away as a brown and cream silver shaded torbie, but that’s not what they were going for. still pretty. realism - 5/10 design - 10/10

REDTAIL

the ginger patches are too distinct for a tortoiseshell with no white. not a bad color combination, though. realism - 7/10 design - 6/10

CORIANDER

pretty good! just a little bit bigger dapples and it’s perfect! realism - 9/10 design - 7/10

CHERRYTAIL

ew. the dappling isn’t proportional and the red is too yellow. realism - 3/10 design - 2/10

HAWK

pretty, but not a tortie. just a pretty brown tabby. realism - 6/10 design - 9/10

HOPWHISKER

brindling is only on torties, not calicos. realism - 5/10 design - 7/10

NUTMEG (no not that one)

not bad. there could be a bit more red on the back though. realism - 8/10 design - 7/10

IVYTAIL

ewwww... she looks like a dog... realism - 2/10 design - 1/10

JUNIPER BRANCH

.......... this has to be a joke. realism - 0/10 design - 2/10

PEANUT

looks muddy. realism - 4/10 design - 3/10

not great. normally there’s more black than red, but the white should balance it out. realism - 3/10 design - 2/10

hm! not bad! a little too even, but not bad! realism - 9/10 design - 7/10

POPPYFROST

POPPYCLOUD

if there was a white belly, the dappled patches would be justified. all around, the colors are nice and with just adding white, they’d look more realistic. nice! realism - 7/10 design - 7/10

ignoring the mandatory “white spot on head”, this ain’t bad. the red just needs brightening up a little because again, it looks too brown. realism - 7/10 design - 6/10

she looks like a koi. why does she look like a koi? realism - 5/10 design - 4/10

for the name “tawny”, why isn’t she tawny brown and tawny cream? nevermind, while this design looks nice, the proportions of white to dappled-ness isn’t quite equal, which knocks this design down a peg. realism - 7/10 design - 5/10

that’s not how brindling works and the red is too brown. realism - 5/10 design - 4/10

looks more mottled, but not bad realism - 7/10 design - 9/10

ignoring the “integral to design petal white patches”, this isn’t a bad dilute tortoiseshell design. the red patches need to be larger to match the amount of white though. realism - 5/10 design - 6/10

MARIGOLDKIT

too bright and the patches are too distinct. realism - 3/10 design - 1/10

MILKWEED

IS THIS...?! NO. NO. AN ACTUALLY REALISTIC DESIGN?! NICE JOB WHOEVER DID THIS! ....and she’s not even described as tortoiseshell. classic. realism - 10/10 design - 9/10

MAPLESHADE

that’s not how white-spotting works... white can’t just appear on the back! realism - 4/10 design - 6/10

MALLOWTAIL

rather pretty. a little too brown though. realism - 6/10 design - 8/10

MOSSFIRE

looks like someone bleached out the red spots. pattern’s right, just not the color. realism - 3/10 design - 1/10

what’s with tortoiseshells and looking too muddy? realism - 4/10 design - 3/10

MOSSPELT

the red part looks a little too brown, the patches are too distinct for the amount of white given, and the white on the tail doesn’t really seem plausible, but overall, not a bad design. realism - 6/10 design - 7/10

not bad, not bad. the red part’s just a little too golden though, but still, not bad. she looks like a brindled torbie. realism - 8/10 design - 8/10

looks like she rolled in mud. realism - 2/10 design - 2/10

this is actually a pretty nice design, but that’s not how white-spotting works and the cream is too light. if the black was gray or the cream was ginger, I wouldn’t complain. realism - 4/10 design - 9/10

big ol’ lost stars dump

StarClan's connection to the Clans was severely weakened during the arc Vision of Shadows due to the high amount of code-breaking and loss of faith in the Clans -- Twig switching Clans so many times, the Kin, SkyClan coming and going and struggling to accept the signs of StarClan, the whole Tiger/Dove scandal etc.

Enter Shadowkit, born far away from the influence of StarClan (we assume). Something held sway in the area he was born, as evidenced in Spiresight. We don't know if it was StarClan, however. It is possible something else held power, and it latched onto Shadowkit due to his Clan heritage. Perhaps his Clan heritage drew the spirits of the Clans, good and evil, to him? His vision may never have been StarClan, but rather the Dark Forest (or another power) influencing him to believe it was StarClan. The powers that be don't have to want to hurt Shadowpaw -- they want him to believe in them, after all.

As much as I love the possessed thing, it can't be Hawkfrost or Tigerstar the First: both are double-dead and therefore unable to possess a cat. Could it be the Dark Forest, then? Is it Darktail attempting to continue his revenge on the Clans? Obviously something revived

Bramblestar. We cannot ignore he was dead for 2 (maybe 3) days before coming back to life. Multiple medicine cats confirmed this. Assuming that Rootpaw has inherited his father's gift, Bramblestar's spirit was unable to go to StarClan, and thus unable to reunite with his body on his next life. Something else was able to do that, however, leaving Bramblestar trapped in the ghost world that other cats were stuck in during AVoS. So now I ask: what is doing this? The Dark Forest has little claim atm with Tigerstar 1.0 and Hawkfrost both dead. I know no other cats with a massive vendetta against the Clans. Mapleshade is not double-dead, so it is possible she could be trying to regain power somehow.Ultimately, I believe

Shadowpaw is not receiving messages from StarClan. I don't know what is speaking to him, but it's not them. I believe they are cut off from the Clans due to the amount of code-breaking and the struggles with the Clan structures we saw in the last arc. Overall, dammit, the Erins have hooked me again.

Fandom DrawingMash #1

My very first one I will post. I will list the characters in order of numbers.

1. Jefferson.

Tomas Jefferson is kind of a sassy character to me and I was hoping to draw him with his cane after I watched Hamilton on Disney+.

2. Dylan.

Dylan is in 101 Dalmatian Street. Since the dogs in the show does some wacky poses, I've decided to draw him doing one for once. I imagine him trying to get up from a fall or something.

3. Spongy.

Or is it Spongey? Either way, I just wanted to fill in some extra space and I also felt like drawing a character that I don't usually draw.

4. Natsuki.

My very first Doki Doki Literature Club drawing, Natsuki has cupcakes just like the drawing. ( I also Forgot to draw her blushing, oops).

5. Soul 'Eater' Evans

He prefers to be called just 'Soul'. Soul is a very chill character, I also was a fan of the anime, "Soul Eater" again. So I decided to give him a try and I drew him again. I like the results.

6. MapleShade

She had it ruff. I feel sorry for her, even though she became evil. I haven't read more than the first book of this series, but I know a lot from the MAPs people make. So seeing her MAPs make me feel like I should read into the series more. Her and Ashfur.

7. Wilson

Ever since my dad showed me Don't Starve, I've gotten really into the game. Played it a lot and I still play it from time to time. (Now because of YanSim, I'm not too into it, but I am a bit.) Anyway, Wilson's my favorite to play as.

8. Little My

To be honest, I wasn't into Moomin Valley again when I drew her. It wasn't until a week later that I became a fan of it enough to finally watch season 2 (finally!) And now I can't wait for more of this show because it kinda ended on a cliff-hanger.

9. Boris

This is pretty much the second time I drew him. Can't wait for Bendy and the Dark Revival. But for now, Boris eating a burger. Inspired by the latest Bendy short. Trio Trouble (or something like that) it's been awhile.

10. Villager

Finally, we have Villager. Design from Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I don't have Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but I've heard a lot from it online. I just wanted to draw him. (I forgot the flowers flowing around him whenever he is happy. I'm forgetting a lot of things, apparently).

Hope you like it! (Sorry for not posting last week, I was working on a multi-fandom project) also I m gonna post another one of these Drawing Mashes tomorrow. :3
