Now that I think about it, they might make Mononobe the mother that “gave up” (aka draw a parallel with that one story about King Solomon). He wants the MC to keep living, and he’s quietly tried to help them (like with creating Lil Sal so they’d die less, or like in Cait Sith’s festival event letting MC use some form of a proto-Double Dragon move iirc). He even feels pride when MC confronts Mahakala possessing his body for the first time. He does care about the MC, but at this point he’s willing to have them forget about him if it means MC can still live on and grow up.

Considering that King Solomon is considered Mononobe’s ‘other self’ (or something alike), it wouldn’t surprise me if they position both of them to be like the 2 mothers who claimed the baby is theirs. King Solomon likely doesn’t respect MC’s autonomy (given that Chapter 13 prologue has him possessing the MC) and is willing to “split” them, while Mononobe is willing to give up the MC in order to protect them and keep them alive. In doing so, this means that Mononobe is the actual, ‘true’ parental figure between them. I’m interested in seeing how they write this out.
