Is it true some parts will be under water in 2025? I'm kinda of worried cause someone told me about it bc it was on the news

Eh, not really. Like, technically, but that's a very dramatic way to put it.

What that person told you about was probably this prediction, which says that some roads on some of the Florida Keys might be underwater by 2025.

Does that suck? Yes. But it's also pretty limited in scope.

(And by the way, that's probably not "underwater all the time." There will probably be a number of years of "the roads will be underwater at high tide specifically." I can't currently find a source on this, but that's how tides work, and the Florida Keys article does specifically mention them as a main problem.)

The areas in danger first are pretty universally small, very low islands. Actually, a dozen or so small islands have already gone underwater in the Pacific Ocean, but very importantly, none of those islands were inhabited.

They were mostly small reef islands (that is, the entire island is exposed coral reef detritus) and other uninhabited shoals. Mostly, they were so small scientists had to check old satellite images to even figure out that they disappeared. Literally, we're talking about chunks of land that are just 100 square meters/300 square feet. Again, not great, but still very limited in scope.

As this Live Science article thankfully explains, it's pretty unlikely that any countries at all will disappear before 2100.

Also, just because land is below sea level doesn't mean it will be underwater, and there are very real steps we can take to defend a lot of endangered cities/islands.

For example:

Much of the Netherlands is already below sea level, but the country isn't disappearing, because the Dutch have put a lot of work into building and maintaining coastal defenses.

Multiple surveys (including the one that found the missing islands in Micronesia) also found that not all low-lying islands are vulnerable to erosion and flooding. This is because many islands are protected by mangrove forests, lagoons, or both

Mangrove reforestation in particular is genuinely a super effective anti-flooding strategy that is being deployed pretty widely, and is expected to increase a lot in the coming years. Mangroves are effective at not only preventing short-term flooding, but also mitigating sea-level increases (in part by preventing erosion)

Some islands, esp Pacific Islands, have actually grown during the past couple decades, not shrunk. It really depends on what the island is made up of. Not all land is automatically doomed

And finally, and this is good news for reasons I'll explain in a second:

Some of the largest and wealthiest cities in the world are at the top of the danger list. (Note: the predictions at that link are based on some fairly severe warming predictions. They do NOT necessarily reflect what's going to happen or when.)

The cities that are going to be in danger the soonest (still away btw) include New York, London, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Dubai. Lots of very rich people in those cities! Who would really like to not have to move (any of their ten different homes lol)

So, flooding aside, we're going to (by necessity) get a lot better at figuring out the quickest, cheapest, most scalable, and most effective types of coastal defenses real fast.

Are rich countries going to be way more able to get strong coastal defense systems up quickly? Yes. Does that suck? Sure fucking does!! But these solutions don't all require a lot of money or tech to implement, even at a large scale, especially when it's local communities driving the effort.

And, importantly, when rich countries pour a ton of money into figuring this out, that will hugely expand our understanding of what techniques work best, why, and how best to deploy them in different situations. Unlike physical structures, that's valuable knowledge that can be shared very, very widely.

And any technology that comes out of this is going to work like solar panels and other green energy: as more people use it, it will get cheaper and cheaper. Probably really quickly.

So, all told, no one's going to be swallowed up in the next few years. We have time to work on this and a lot of people are already doing so.

Mostly, experts predict that the first wave of large-scale issues will be happening around 2050.

Three decades doesn't sound like enough time, in the face of something like this. But you know what? Responses to climate change are speeding up exponentially, and different types of responses are multiplying and magnifying each other.

We went from inventing flight to landing on the moon in just 66 years.

I wouldn't count us out of the climate change fight yet.

I've decided to expand a bit and explain how their relashionship would work in general after ep 5, I hope you don't mind 😅

By the end of episode 5 Jesse and Lukas won’t have grudges against each other after they both apologise for making mistakes. Their relationship becomes be more or less like it was at the very beginning of episode 1, only 10 times more awkward and neither Lukas nor Jesse try to actively become friends, their only connection is that they are both friends with Aiden now. And since they live in separate worlds (because the Ocelots decided to stay and help people in Sky City world) they don’t even meet again for a long time and they're both fine with that.

Eventually, some time between first and second seasons, Jesse comes to visit Sky City world for Aiden but comes across Lukas and at first it’s as awkward as you’d expect, but once the topic of a building project comes up they manage to have an actual normal conversation over something they both love. After they stopped geeking out about all the cool stuff there's still a bit of that tension after all that they went through in season 1, mostly guilt that they both feel about their past mistakes, but they think maybe it's finally time to properly talk about all of that so both of them can finally be free of their burdens and make sure they's no hard feelings between them.

After that they've decided to keep in touch just a little bit more as they both can share thoughts and ideas about their shared passion of creating and building, they still don't meet that often, but not as little as before. Eventually they start going off topic in their letters and personal meetings and start talking about other stuff as well as they develop a closer bond and one day they both confidently can call each other friends, but that'd take some time

Btw I actually remembered a comic that I’ve had sketched out years ago about their first normal talk and I wanted to try redrawing it in my current style and I don’t want to make any promises that I’ll have the energy to finish and post it, but here’s a sketch of post-season 1 Lukas trying to ask Jesse "wtf are you doing in my house" in a polite way

ok this isn’t really a post about the situation but it is a minor update to how i’ll be handling a few of my aus:

the whole rant is under the cut but tldr: the aus i talk about here are Store Shifter, Dad’s Troubles, Flubber, and Epic. Store Shifter and Dad’s Troubles are getting left alone, Flubber is getting a minor recast, and Epic is getting more majorly reworked (mostly character wise, kinda plot wise). As of right now, Wil/crimeboy centric fics are on pause. Not cancelled, but i’ll see later down the road if they need changed or if i can learn to separate the character from the creator. I will be updating the Epic au soon with said reworkings cause i really really really wanna finish that story. I have yet to start and actually finish a chaptered fic and I want this to be my first.

most recently i’ve been posting a few updates on mainly the Store Shifter and Flubber au, while i’ve been kinda working on the Dad’s Troubles and Epic AU in the background.

For the most part, these aus will remain unchanged because you know who either isn’t in them or isn’t a main character. For the Store Shifter, i’m not changing it for now because he isn’t and was never planned to be an important character. I’m just gonna ignore him in that au. Dad’s Troubles he just straight up isn’t in, so that one is unchanged.

Flubber au is a little different: i’m just recasting. He doesn’t have a huge part, but it is a lore important one, so from now on in that story the main antagonist will be Dream (1: he’s easy to stick in the “Tommy’s antagonistic boss” role and 2: i need at least one au where Dream is an antagonist lol). So yeah i’ll make a more official post for that au later.

The main reason for this post tho is the Epic AU, which is one of my personal favorites and i have so much that I want to talk about it for and even a whole bunch of new characters and concepts and world building that I want to post about. However, this au faces a problem for me at this moment: it’s crimeboy centric.

As of right now, I do not feel comfortable updating any of my Wil/crimeboy centric aus/fics. This is not to say I’m discontinuing them, i’m personally very attached to my own fics and a lot of them were written to either help me feel better or to help other people feel better, so I don’t feel right just throwing them away. Also, i will never be deleting my fics or shutting down this account, so I don’t want people to worry there, either. However, I don’t know how comfortable I am with writing for c!Wil rn, especially since this situation is still so fresh and plenty of people haven’t shared their experiences/responses (not to say that I expect anyone to; i don’t expect everything to be handled publicly over twitter). I think in time i’ll be able to separate the character from the actor; unfortunately i’ve been through this before. i’ve seperated characters who were far more like their creator from said creator who had done far worse things (if anyone on this blog has watched TribeTwelve, you know exactly what I’m talking about).

However, even if I eventually decide that I can write c!Wil while separating him from his creator, i don’t know if i’ll ever feel fully comfortable incorporating him in stories with a bigger cast of characters given the cc responses to his actions. Any stories where I have him interacting with people like Ranboo, Tubbo, or especially Niki will likely need to be changed because i don’t feel comfortable portraying them like friends anymore.

I’ve kind of done this before, honestly, i just never posted about it last time: when beeduo first stopped talking publicly, i stopped writing for beeduo. To this day, i have a fuck ton of beeduo requests in my inbox that i never got to and may not ever write because i didn’t feel comfortable writing their characters being close when in real life they may have had a falling out or now hated each other (so, so sorry to the people that sent those btw). Over time, most people started to realize that it was because of the crazy amount of shipping. It was bad during the dsmp and only got worse when Ranboo came out and all the speculation over Tubbo’s sexuality hit its peak when he’d made it very clear that crossed his boundaries. After realizing their silence was likely just them trying to shut up a more toxic part of both of their fanbases, i became a bit more comfortable writing them as friends again. I still haven’t made any beeduo centric fics or stories since then cause i don’t know the full story of what happened between them, this is all just speculation, but i at least have them be friends as supporting characters in aus i’ve already made.

All this to say that the way i handle the rest of my aus really depends on how things play out more with the situation. Again, it’s still new and i’m still gathering my thoughts. I can think about it more clearly now that i’ve gotten over the shock, which is why i’m posting this, but not every decision will be finalized immediately.

However, back to the Epic AU, it will be getting a rework in a lot of ways. I’m changing up the cast, and i’ve decided to cut Wil entirely because 1: i’m impatient and this is an au that i really wanna start up again and keep working on right now and 2: in the au i have him being friends with Ranboo and Dream and Tubbo and again that’s just not something i feel super comfortable with rn. So, i’m recasting and minorly changing the plot so i can update that one soon cause honestly i just miss it. I’ve still got so many asks and art requests (Becky sent me an art request like almost a year ago now and istg i’m gonna fucking draw it if it kills me) and there was a whole nother species i teased a bunch and then just…never told you about.

So yeah expect an update on the Epic AU soon and thank you for reading this entire fucking essay. As a little bonus for taking your time to read this, i’ll give you a hint for the next au im working on: karlnapity and vampires >:)

Hello again, the 'Ryder's Parents' theory anon back again (need to come back w a better name fr) and that whole thing w 'why do the dogs talk?' got me thinking of my own theory. Now i gotta preface this by saying i'm only just getting into the show like, seriously? I watched some episodes w my baby brother and got hooked, haven't really watched the movie yet but i know abt the 'one of kitties start talking thanks to the comet' thing, so that's what i'm mostly basing this theory off of

So like... the thing giving superpowers and the ability to talk is a meteor, right? Right. My crazy theory here is that its not the first time a meteor like that hit the earth. A similar one hit the planet during the dinosaur extinction thing (to my knowledge it wasn't a single huge one, there were a few more) and ended up affecting the area around it, giving the life forms around it (in this case, the precursors of dogs) the ability to be able to speak. So!! Humans don't care bc from their perspective, dogs have been able to talk since always. Humans and dog probably have an even closer relationship in the paw patrol universe compared to our reality, since they probably evolved really close together and all!! As for how do some cats (like Wild and his crew) talk naturally... idk honestly. Maybe there was another, much smaller meteor they just happened to near of? Idk i'm just building this

P sure that was the same thing the Cat from Coraline says when asked abt why he talks in the Other World. Malenia:

Malenia adores kids. They remind her of Miq when he was younger and she was free to dot on him.

She'd love to play with them, like doing spins, throwing them in the air, tickling and playing peek-a-boo if they are babies.

BUT!

She doesn't go close to any kids she doesn't know if their parents trust her.

Mostly she's scared of the Rot somehow effecting the kiddos, so she only approaches if the parent/s invite her close.

If she is, she likes ruffling their hair.

Talking with kids, she always sits down to be as close to their eye level, and always treats them with as much respect as she does Miq and takes any word they say seriously.

If any kiddo challenges her to a sword fight with sticks (which many Haligtree-born kids do) she'll lose 100% of the time. (she's only undefeated when battling people using actual weapons)

Miquella:

When he was still living in Leyndell, Miq didn't actually like kids. They reminded him a lot of how most people saw him, and it was one of the few things that angered him.

He grew a bit fond of them as he build the city in the Haligtree.

He still kinda avoids them, mainly because most of them think he is their age and try to befriend him. Sometimes he just doesn't have the energy to explain that he's actually centuries old and he just looks like them.

What he often does though, is read to many. Sometimes, he'll notice a parent needing a break, at which point he'll arrange a reading session for the kid that drives said parent mad.

He loves how their eyes shine in wonder at things that are now mundane to him, like dragons and giants.

In the end, even if he doesn't always enjoy his time with kids, a good amount of his efforts in creating the Haligtree are for them to have a future outside of the Golden Order's constraints.

Loretta:

She acts like kids are the biggest pain in the world.

Then does her absolute best to help in whatever they need, while mumbling "kids these days" to keep up appearances

She fails btw, everyone and their mother knows Loretta is very fond of kids.

She's more of the "let them get hurt, that's how they'll learn" type of adult.

Having said that, she will do all she can for that "hurt" to be as painless and fleeting as possible. Like, a kid might want to ride a horse much bigger than it can. She'll let it and let it slide off as well, but she'll place her hands right where the kiddo falls, softening the fall and preventing any actual damage.

Also every kid in the Haligtree learned how to curse from her.

We know Loretta is protective and loyal, so I used that as a base for her. And also a bit of the characterization I'm stealing (hehe, get it?) from Stolen 👍

Like I said, an obvious sign telling me it's a mimic didn't stop me from thinking "but what if it isn't?" I love Frieren for the after the journey story and all but mostly because I kinda am Frieren. Fun idea for D&D nerds btw, one thing that never got translated over into most RPGs is that old-school mimics were capable of speech. Anyways, figured out how to get pics from the game's snapshot mode over to here. I like games including the ability to take pics more.

Ahead is my favorite from the main story quest, and it's big spoilers for DQ Builders 2. So like...be warned:

Someone familiar with the game might recognize and anachronism here, I shouldn't have Malroth for this part. My bro, it's something a lot of people didn't like about the story and I didn't either. There's a traitor in Moonbrooke's midst, and he turns the people against your bro. Meaning our bro Malroth gets thrown in jail and blames you. Causes a rift that sets up the grand finale. I was pissed honestly. Like...you expect me to want to sit around and build for these shitheads after that? It's a black game, the game kinda forces you to feel like a bad friend because I was ready to tell Moonbrooke to go fuck itself. No seriously, I actually did commemorate the moment:

Yeah I just sat on the tower and made them defend their own damn castle for any of the battles. Talk about good Dragon Quest design. It's like what I said about the late-stage boss fight in DQ5. Furrowfield makes you feel the threat of dudes attacking your base. Those skeletons will make you have to rebuild a bit. Progressively past that it becomes less of a threat. Sorta frontloads the fear a Minecraft creeper strikes in you. Anyways, us flying over the field. I stumbled into that early. It did nothing to diminish the impact of one of the coolest moments in the game. Especially for an older fan of DQ2.

That's Rendarak in this game, or Rhone as I'm used to it. Moonbrooke is the snowy winter land this time. Rhone is a peaceful valley tucked away in the mountains. And even the main hero of the mainline counterpart's home of Midenhall is there. This is where you should get the reveal the world is all an illusion. Smartly using an iconic moment from Dragon Quest 2 that really holds up even today. When you finally get to Hargon's Castle in that...it looks like Midenhall. Home. You can stay at an inn or buy stuff at shops but when you leave it resets your stats and inventory. Cool trick right? Though it does lead to a fun little bug you can do with cursed equipment to make the final push less of a grind.

My mind was fuckin' blown honestly. Seeing that verdant field, seeing the name Rendarak, scary monsters just casually talking about how it's all an illusion. Wild. I honestly like the more eerie, bizarre feeling of just casually stumbling across this. And good on them for designing around my ability to just run around to parts of the island when I want. That's how I found a sweet portrait of the Princess of Moonbrooke!

As much as I've tried to take this to heart, it has been excruciating these past few days to watch (mostly USamerican) people learn about white phosphorus, mass punishment, illegal detention, the Geneva convention, hostage exchanges and not even bother to stick those terms in wikipedia.

The excitement at seeing people discover something you've been yelling about for years turns to ash when they have no curiosity about it, the outrage isn't going to turn into long-term struggle it's a flash in the pan emotion that'll be apathy from burnout within a few years.

Something REAL you can do with your anger is join up with groups in your country who are working to eventually get the USA to even be slightly accountable for those crimes (ongoing btw) like the rest of the world, for small gestures like closing Guantanamo: the 20 year torture prison without trial. Just having the talk about moving those men to american prisons, let alone release, or with compensation.

Right now one of the local (to me) issues is people imprisoned for terrorism being given the option of psychological care instead of isolation as we begin to dismantle the idea of the evil mastermind and see that for every charismastic sociopath there are dozens of groomed young men and women from vunerable backgrounds. Folding in what we have learned about gangs and cults instead of good and evil thinking. This is legislation that will totally be crushed under the current government of course but deserves to be formulated anyway so we can bring it back later and at least start the seeds of discussion.

There might be a few people asking for "nuance" who just want to not think but an awful lot of people asking for nuance are asking for curiosity: for you to put in the reading, the dialectical reading of things you may disagree with or may be outdated to have a fuller grasp on a situation that is also playing out in so many other ways close to home that you can actually act on.

Examples for me is that many Syrian refugees are also Palestinian refugees from earlier wars but the rhetoric about them is to not even call them refugees but invaders like they're not doing our care and janitorial work! We also have islamophobia and antisemitism in local schools: in my own half muslim neighbourhood. We also throw taxpayer money at weapons manufacturers and take pride in our civilian killing inventions: that's places we can blockade and boycott, we can expose who took their money and gifts.

Nuance is kind of like when the Black Lives Matter movement asked people to do some basic reading before turning up to protest and saying something wack. It doesn't mean "hey this is too complicated for anyone except scholars to parse so let's all shut up"

Nuance means let's learn what led us here, what we can do right now with our anger, how we could turn current impotence into future accountability, how to stop this from happening again, how do I protect and build in my own community where land and blood feuds are lurking under the surface.

Hey so after I got home from work I immediately passed out and I wasn’t able to complete it until now so… sorry about that

btw throughout typing all of this I was imagining you playing with me while a rambled. Holding a wand against me or just using your fingers, making me feel so good as long as I keep talking and being good for you :3

So the D&D campaign I’m currently in the process of world building is based on the Mythos of the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse, the four horsemen being Conquest, Famine, War, and Death. The entire story takes place in the world of Strinamora, also called The Torn Lands. Three continents construct the world, two large continents separated by a long canal stretching the full length of both landmasses, giving them an appearance resembling a pair of lungs. The third continent is the only one I’ve written out so a lot of this ramble will be about that.

The third continent is a smaller landmass to the north and a bit to the west. The land is based on Ireland and is controlled by the horseman Famine. The continent itself is called Isle Gorta Mór (Gorta Mór being the Gaelic term for the great Irish potato famine) and contains three nations within it. These three nations are Solfege, Aswin, and Traedahl. Solfege is the southernmost nation and has severely been impacted by the famine plaguing the land. Solfege does have the benefit of being the closest to the mainland of the other two continents, allowing it to mildly sustain itself through exports, though they are struggling to do so since their economy was agriculturally based and the majority of their crops are affected by The Blight (basically the potato blight but affecting more types of crops and consuming it makes the person who ate it violently ill). Solfege also struggles with the massive influx of migrants from Traedahl as they attempt to flee towards a different continent and presumably a better life (we’ll get to Traedahl soon). Aswin is between the other two counties and is generally the least affected by the Blight. Aswin is a territory of the Dirasite Empire and has the benefit of frequent exports and financial aid, as well as a manufacturing based economy which allows it to continue functioning fairly normally. Traedahl is the country most affected by the famine, having been entirely agriculturally based and generally the poorest. Its population has lately been free falling as people get increasingly sick from having to eat Blighted crops and from a mass migration of people looking for a way out. Traedahl is also home to the Caudic Islands, a pair of islands far off the east coast of the nation that have been mostly unaffected by the famine. They have been a fishing based society for centuries, so an agricultural famine barely affects them, and they used to send excess food to Traedahl where they could, but those exports have recently and inexplicably stopped, no scouts have returned to give and answer.

While Famine controls Isle Gorta Mór, he doesn’t do it publicly. Each horseman has a human disguise to hide in plain sight, and Famine’s is Dr. Eminaf (famine backwards :3), a charismatic plague doctor who provides free care to the poor and the ill. Eminaf is typically located in Traedahl but does travel often, occasionally disappearing entirely for days on end. There are some rumors that he has shady underground dealings with various country leaders, though no proof has ever been found.

Isle Gorta Mór, being based off Ireland, has many encounters and side quests based on Irish mythos. Things like Fear Gorta (famine zombie), The Oilliphéist (giant sea serpent), the Fomorians (while D&D does have its own Fomorians, those aren’t very true to the original mythos, so I made my own. Those being drowned knights emerging from the sea, riding kelpies, and attacking coastal villages), and the Dullahan (the headless horseman).

And for the most part, that’s all I really have. I plan to base the horseman of War off the character Apollyon from the game For Honor, as she is a terrifying villain that fits the personification of War perfectly. I also have it that Death herself doesn’t specifically control any land, but since she rules over the other horsemen, she controls everything. She’s also a very sick and sadistic woman that, instead of guiding souls as they pass or claiming them for herself, finds more enjoyment in watching those souls suffer (and that will be very relavent in my next ramble about the story my friend and I made for the creature I mentioned yesterday. I’m making that separate because this is already so very long)

Now being not horny, I love ideas based off the four horsemen. Horsemen characters are like my favorite (love the headless horseman so so much). I'm normally not super interested in map stories, but this is genuinely sick.

Oooo, I love the Gaelic to tie the continent to Famine. More sick names. Potatoes. I love how deep the lore of each nation is, like how you thought of how each would be affected by the Blight and famine stuff. You thought of exports???? Dude, this is is sick. Fish and dead (missing?) scouts.

MYTHOLOGY, I LOVE MYTHOS. Though I don't know much Irish myths, but kelpies are cool. Oh my god I didn't even see the mention of the headless horseman here 💀. This is genuinely my reactions while I read it.

PERSONALLY, I AM A YN DEFENDER FOR LIKE THATS MY HOMEGIRL.. like imagine you grew up in a world where soulmates are the basis of your romantic future. the sheer fact that that in itself already builds a sense of you either love your soulmate or hate them in someones head (considering that most of the time,, soulmates are portrayed as; first time you meet, you just know)

Everyone always talks about your art (which is soo amazing btw) but what really makes me love it even more is your ability to take characters and worlds from animated movies and just give them so much personality than they originally had, sometimes more personality than the characters have originally been given! Like I never liked the Mario movie (for several reasons) and was never crazy about the Sonic movies, but I absolutely ADORE your art and what you're doing with the characters! (=

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! I put a lot of thought into how I wanna portray these characters in my fan comics since the movies, while they did fine, didn't give much time to explore the characters' personalities and character. The Mario movie was too focused on moving towards the next action set piece. And while the Sonic movies do a better job with the Sonic characters, the human characters don't have much to do and are often shoved to the side or given side plots which are mostly just for gags and doesn't give time to explore them as characters. I like these movies and these character and I want to build off of what the ground work that the movies have laid out because there's a lot to work with here.

It means a lot to me to have that recognized as well, so thank you very much! ❤️

🍫 A headcanon about food for Scar!

Scar is Fae, and on top of that he's a royal. He definitely has a taste for finer foods; Fae food is naturally savory, and often sweet (though sour and bitter foods are also possible to make), and Scar's cooking reflects this. But of course- be careful when accepting food from him, or any other Fae! As he said in Midnight Strolls, things of Fae are meant to be... naturally alluring and tempting, and if made with the right intent, can be addictive and you might find yourself trapped by the Fae who gave you the food's whim :)

💝 A headcanon about their love language for Grian!

Grian is absolutely a physical touch love language type person- casual but intimate touches, hand holding, kisses, hugs, cuddling, randomly draping himself across his partners, wrapping them up in his wings... however, he also has a touch of gift-giving too! Although he doesn't too often get his partners gifts, when he does it means a lot to him. Often the things he'll gift will be extremely personal to him (his feathers, for example) and have great meaning (for example, the pendant he gave Mumbo is a symbol for "forever," through the gifting of his feathers <3) so! Mostly physical touch mixed with gift giving <3 Important to note- he likes to give gifts but he doesn't really like to receive them!

🧸 A headcanon about their childhood for Mumbo!

Mumbo was, unsurprisingly, the de facto leader of his and his friends' little group, not because he was confident or even best for the job but simply because he was the oldest of them and, well, obviously the one with the highest status, the others literally being the children of his house's servants. They were well known around Boatem for running around and being children, and though Mumbo's parents were not looked at with very high regard, the people adored Mumbo for being down to Earth and eager to learn. Mumbo learned redstone from one of the local scientists of Boatem, and when his friends had chores to do and he had no more lessons he would go spend time with them and learn even more. He valued this time just as highly as he valued time with his friends! This of course ended after the uprising that he ended up caught in the middle of, but he continued to send letters to the scientist and learned from them that way.

😶 A random headcanon for Midnight in general yay!!

haha thank you for giving me a chance to ramble about some of my world building that I won't get to talk about in-story!! I mean some of it WILL be discussed eventually BUT. Not in depth, so- The world of Midnight is of course divided into continents and also different realms. On the continent our lovely trio live on you have Hermetia to the northeast, Essem to the west, L'Manberg (a very tiny landlocked country) within Essem, and a certain Empire of animal-human Hybrids to the south. Hermetia is the largest of these countries, of course. Who knows what's on other continents... so far away, hmm.... Now, that being said, obviously I have referenced ancient civilizations- in fact if I did not delete them out of the final draft I have hinted at two ancient civilizations that have fallen before. Yep, Midnight isn't just a post-apocalyptic story- it's post two apocalypses! The strongholds are remnants of an ancient society that discovered (and eventually migrated to) the End before shit hit the fan. The non-Peecy (Testifica) survivors of this event who did not move to the End ultimately split into two groups- the Testifica and the Illagers. Peecy people, on the other hand, found themselves splitting too- many forming animalistic characteristics, all to different degrees. They end up called Hybrids, regardless of whether they look like animalistic humans or humanoid animals. Prior to this event, however, there were only the Testifica and the Peecy peoples, and their far ancient ancestors lived in an already-ancient world and dealt with problems far different from what the modern day people do- back in the days of the Ancestors, there were no Vampires or Fae or Werewolves living in the shadows of an unsuspecting society. Wizards and Sorcerers were new, magic was unexplored and no secret, the Nether was not yet traveled or learned, and what would one day evolve into the Testifica were not yet discovered. In these days the cursed sand and an ancient evil that lives within it was society's greatest fear, and the Nether was simply known as Hell. Now, of course- the only thing all three societies have in common? The Mobs. No one knows where they came from. No one knows if they were always there, or if they came from somewhere else. If, perhaps... maybe there was someone from before. A time before the Ancients and the Ancestors. Regardless of the truth of the matter, all three societies have dealt with Mobs- from skeletons and zombies and creepers and spiders, only for more to be discovered over time (or perhaps... they simply evolved). There are rumors that some Mobs were highly intelligent, even giving themselves names, and perhaps they were the first incarnation of the Hybrids that became so prevalent thousands of years later... but who knows. All anyone knows now is there are many Mob Hybrids in existence today. How they came to be, though- is still quite the mystery...

I don't have DoS as developed as my other WIPs, so there's not a lot of Themes(TM) going on right now, but I can tell you some more about Seth, if you'd like!

The main message of "Devourer of Souls" is basically "fuck your birth family!! make a new one for yourself!!!", and Seth's story is 100% that.

When he was a kid, it was detected that he had been born with healing powers, which is extremely rare, and he was immediately sent to a kind of 'healer school' (with some prison undertones...) to get trained. Except, when he started studying, he discovered that, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't heal even the smallest bruise with his magic.

In the world of DoS, the whole thing is that souls have power (they're called "souls" but it's more like a life force thing, since anything that is alive has a "soul"). And the way healers work is that they can channel their soul into others to heal them because more life force = heal faster. This means that healers are usualy very short-lived because they eventually run out of soul and then die.

But the thing is: Seth can't access his own soul, which means he can't heal. He has the magic necessary for healing but he can't tap into the source. But he finds that he can absorb others' souls, which you can correctly assume is Very Bad.

One day, in a last-ditch act of desperation, he tries to pry open the access to his soul, and not only does this accidentally kill the patient, but it also fucks up Seth's own health. He gets kicked out and is pretty much left to die.

He resigns himself to a life of exile in some cottage he found but then! There's a random guy! Who broke into his house!

This guy is not some random robber, but the prodigal son of the Goddess of Time and strongest demigod to ever live. He got kicked out by his human family and is trying to find somewhere to stay. His name is Teo btw.

Seth lets Teo stay and, when Teo finds out about his peculiar healing powers and suggests Seth use himself as a conduit for life force, instead of a source. Since he can have as much power as he wants without sucking out his own soul, Seth becomes an extremely powerful healer who can cure anything as long as he drains the life force of something else (mostly plants, sometimes people).

He's so good, in fact, that, at one point in the story, he cured death! The result wasn't very good but he literally brought a person back from the dead by draining the life of an entire forest.

So, yeah, "Devourer of Souls" is about building your own chosen family and celebrating what makes you different! There's some more plot (I only talked about like... a third of it), but I'm still hesitant on the character names and I don't really wanna spoil it out of the gate.

Sun and Saturn!

Sun: what’s something that’s an everyday part of your life that reminds you of how beautiful the world is?

Mmmm... In general, just people. Or rather, how we tend to forget that everyday on streets alone we pass by hundreds if not thousands of different people. Each of them has a different story, different opinions, different interests, different goals and motivations. Maybe that's eevesdropping for some, but I do like sometimes listening to a group of teenager friends on a bus, talking about some school teacher they hate or some other plans; on a train stations families often talk of their plans or parents reminding the kids to keep close and to make sure to keep track of their things... I dunno, for many it seems insignificant but I just love being reminded that everyone around us exists. I love talking with people, yesterday I had a chance to talk with an older man about generosity as I was waiting for my food at restaurant - I will never meet him again and yet I might remember him and his words in a few years... I have this story I like telling people, that is a perfect example of this so this is a perfect opportunity to mention it.

So like, back in high school I would often skip sleep and because I would do it many nights in a row, I knew this was a common occurence but I kept seeing the neighbouring building to mine and every night there was always a light on. The stairway in that building is similar to mine (I know that cause I have been inside of it before) and it works by motion detection - if it detects someone moving inside, the light turns on. The window that I kept seeing the light being on from is also not an apartment window - it is definitely the window you encounter when walking the stairs to get either up or down a floor. The light turns off automatically after some time without any motion and in that case it would happen a lot - it would turn off but then soon to be turned on, I assume by someone who suddenly went into motion. Which meant that every night for more than few weeks if not months, someone, very late into the night would just... hang in the stairway - they weren't working or walking down and up or anything, otherwise the light would constantly be turned on due to detecting constant movement - they were just hanging there, every night - for multiple hours btw (back then, I noticed this happening from as early as midnight to as late as early morning, think 6 or 7 am). The light was definitely not malfunctioning as the light was mostly turned off in the day time as it should work.

I dunno... I just find it interesting and fascinating, most people wouldn't care about that, but I do - it really gives me a perspective about how there are so many people around me, at any moment, all of them have different thoughts and traits and goals - and for someone, that person just felt like spending most of the night in the cold (it was cold, it was winter season) stairway and just hanging out there for multiple hours - sometimes the full night. Maybe they had a reason for this, maybe they don't and they just liked that routine - I don't know and will never know. No one is hanging out there anymore as of over a year now. And yet. I still keep thinking of it. In that way, life is beautiful to me.

tw weight talk w/ numbers - im like fr dont read it if this is gonna bother you. i just don't know where else to put this

I've lost 33lbs now LOL with like 20 (?) of that being in the last 6 weeks or so

i feel very on top of things - i honestly feel like im doing well - but i think there's a fundamental disconnect between me thinking that im in no trouble, and me purposely restricting food, weighing myself every morning, you know. like i want to lose weight for the wedding bc i cant stand my appearance + im so aware of the fact that those photos are gonna follow me around for the rest of my life lol. i think i underestimated how much of a trigger this would be for me?

mostly i just feel so fucking embarrassed? like why can i not just accept the body im in? i feel unbelievably ashamed to be losing weight purposefully AT ALL, which is why i haven't mentioned it up until now, like i think it's so hideously unfeminist + fatphobic (obviously. lol) of me but the absolute terror of being witnessed (not in that stupid meme way, a real bone-deep terror of it) + found lacking is just so much stronger than my desire to behave well.

what do i do now? i really AM eating fine, i'm eating at least one meal a day + a lot of snacks but i keep feeling like i MUST be bullhsitting myself here bc like: you dont really eat enough and lost like over a stone in a month, do you? what do i do now? like actually? i feel stuck between this endless pull to lose weight + this endless pull to accept myself + one of them seems much, much more likely to end in me feeling better about myself bc i cannot imagine a world in which i accept what i see in the mirror bc i dont think there's ever been a point in this one where that's been true???? like literally since i was a CHILD my mum's been on a mission to make me feel shit about my build
