Lynn Yamada Davis, a TikTok creator who entertained millions of people with her zany style and cooking tips on her account, Cooking With Lynja, died on Jan. 1 in Red Bank, N.J. She was 67.

The cause of death, in Riverview Medical Center, was esophageal cancer, her daughter Hannah Mariko Shofet said. Ms. Davis lived in Holmdel, N.J.

Ms. Davis began creating the wholesome Cooking With Lynja videos in 2020 with her youngest child, Tim Davis, to help keep up his cinematography skills during the pandemic lockdown.

Her social media accounts have remained active after her death, because she had asked him to post videos that had already been edited. One such video shows the two of them looking for truffles in Italy.

“My mom was like my partner in crime,” Mr. Davis, 27, who edited the TikTok account, said in a phone interview.

Something else she requested, Mr. Davis said, was that he post a few older videos that they had made together about a decade ago.

Those early versions of what would later become an international TikTok sensation known for their lightheartedness were a way for Mr. Davis to learn how to make the food his mother cooked “as well as have a time capsule,” he said.

After the last Cooking With Lynja videos are uploaded the account will stop posting, he said.

Cooking With Lynja began in 2020 and gained wide attention with a video in which the 5-foot-tall Ms. Davis makes a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich while showing off some quirky dance moves. Soon, about one million people were following her offbeat content. (Today, the account has more than 17 million followers.) Potential sponsors noted the videos’ success and started contacting her.

More than three years later, the Cooking With Lynja YouTube account has nearly 10 million subscribers, and Ms. Davis’s Instagram account has more than two million followers.

In 2022, Forbes included Ms. Davis on its annual “50 over 50” list, which pays tribute to successful women over 50 years old. And she won Streamy Awards, honoring online videos, in the editing and food categories. In 2023, she attended the Forbes Women’s Summit in Abu Dhabi, where she spoke on a panel.

Lynn Yamada Davis was born on July 31, 1956, in New York City and lived most of her early life in Fort Lee, N.J. Her father, Tadao Yamada, was a businessman, and her mother, Mabel Fujisake Yamada, ran the household.

She graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and earned a master’s degree in business administration as well as public health from the Columbia University Business School.

Ms. Davis worked for Bell Labs (now AT&T Labs) and had a long career in telecommunications before her unexpected TikTok fame, Ms. Shofet, her daughter, said.

“She had this whole chapter as a groundbreaking female engineer, and she was very proud of that,” she added.

As a TikTok star Ms. Davis would get recognized around the world, including in Japan and Italy, where she traveled with her youngest son, Tim. Sean Davis, her other son, is a professional soccer player who used to be a midfielder for the New York Red Bulls and now plays for the Nashville Soccer Club.

“She was my first coach,” he said. When she would visit him in Nashville, he said, she’d get recognized in the street, often by young people who use TikTok a lot.

“That’s how I realized how famous she was,” Sean Davis said. “People would ask for pictures, and I would take the picture.”

Most of all, Cooking With Lynja provided Ms. Davis with much fun, Tim Davis said. With special effects that have tiny versions of Ms. Davis flying across the screen and quotes like “Lynja’s got that dope!” her videos appealed to several generations of viewers. In her videos she is seen preparing all kinds of foods, heard sinking her teeth into crispy sandwiches or potatoes, and shown karate-chopping Ramen noodles and much more.

Ms. Davis was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2019, which affected her voice. Two years later she was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. In one video, Ms. Davis bakes cookies for the medical workers who treated her.

In addition to her daughter Hannah and her sons, Ms. Davis is survived by her second husband, Keith Davis; another daughter, Becky Steinberg; two siblings, Jay Yamada and Karen Dolce Yamada; and two grandchildren. Her first marriage, to Hank Steinberg, ended in divorce.

In her final years Ms. Davis got to travel around the world, meet people as well as cook and eat amazing food, Sean Davis said. He added, “I just think her final chapter was exactly how she would have wanted it to be written.”

Natalie Wynn (born October 21, 1988) is an American YouTuber, political commentator, and cultural critic. She is best known for her YouTube channel, ContraPoints, where she creates video essays exploring a wide range of topics such as politics, gender, ethics, race, and philosophy.

Her videos often provide counterargument to right-wing extremists and classical liberals and talk about modern social issues such as class inequality, LGBTQ rights (particularly trans rights), cancel culture, and modern internet culture. Her videos have received widespread media coverage for their intricately designed sets and costumes and for their darkly humorous tone, which has led The Verge to call her "the Oscar Wilde of YouTube". In recognition of her videos, Wynn won a Streamy Award for "Commentary" in 2020, and was nominated in the same category at the 2021 Streamy Awards. In 2023 she became an honoree of a Peabody Award.

Wynn is a transgender woman, a matter prominently featured in her videos; she began her gender transition in 2017. She previously identified as genderqueer. She is a feminist and has called herself a democratic socialist and social democrat.

Wynn's videos have been praised for their clarity, nuance, and attention-grabbing sense of humor. Jake Hall, writing for Vice, called Wynn "one of the most incisive and compelling video essayists on YouTube". In an article contrasting her personal sincerity and her ironic sense of humor, The Verge describes her as the "Oscar Wilde of YouTube." New York magazine states, "ContraPoints is very good. Media often describe the channel's content as uniquely suited to a millennial audience, due to its humorous style and its direct attention to online culture. Her analysis of fascists' use of memes and coded symbols has been cited by the Southern Poverty Law Center in an article explaining the right-wing use of the OK sign. Journalist Liza Featherstone recommends the channel as well, saying that she does a "fabulous job" acknowledging her opponents' valid points while debunking weak arguments and revealing the influence of a sometimes unacknowledged far-right political agenda.

In November 2018, after a ContraPoints video about incels reached over one million views, The New Yorker released a profile of the channel, describing Wynn as "one of the few Internet demi-celebrities who is as clever as she thinks she is, and one of the few leftists anywhere who can be nuanced without being boring." The Atlantic praised Wynn's use of "lush sets, moody lighting, and original music by the composer Zoë Blade" and opined of her videos that "The most spectacular attraction [...] is Wynn herself." Polygon named her video on incels one of the 10 best video essays of the year 2018. In May 2019, she topped the Dazed 100 list, which ranks people who "dared to give culture a shot in the arm."

Wisdom Kaye is a popular model, video creator, and fashion influencer well-known for his unique style and presence on social media. In January 2020, he created his TikTok, @wisdm8, to express his love and creativity for fashion, all while studying electrical engineering in college. Amid the pandemic, Wisdom Kaye was able to achieve social media fame with his rendition of the ‘Vogue Challenge’ and managed to accumulate 2 million followers within 6 months (Allaire, 2020). However, Wisdom Kaye initially tried gaining a fan base through Twitter. It was on that platform that he decided to instead focus primarily on video content, which brought him to TikTok and began his new career, eventually becoming signed with IMG. He received opportunities, working with brands including Gucci, Dior, and Coach, serving as a guest judge on Project Runway, and received back-to-back Streamy Awards (Forbes, 2023).

MrBeast Burgers is a brand new restaurant chain project launched by the 22-year-old philanthropist and YouTuber Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson.

Donaldson is known for pulling off spectacular giveaways, such as “I Gave My Credit Card to Random People” and difficult challenges like “Spending 24 Hours Underwater Challenge”. He has been creating YouTube videos since 2012 at the age of 13. Donaldson’s channel did not become famous after he went viral until late 2017 for doing PR stunts, saying, “Subscribe To Pewdiepie” during the Pewdiepie/T Series subscriber war. Donaldson’s stunts even included buying billboards and sneaking an ad into the Super Bowl.

After the tragic Christchurch Mosque Shootings, Donaldson stopped creating “Subscribe to Pewdiepie” stunts. In 2019, Donaldson won the Breakout Creator of the year at the Streamy Awards. At the 2020 Streamy Awards, Donaldson won YouTuber of the Year.

Donaldson launched MrBeast Burger on December 19, 2020, beginning with 300 restaurants. The restaurants exist as solely digital restaurants ran through ghost kitchens.

A ghost kitchen is essentially a menu in an outsourced restaurant. MrBeast Burger ran out of the famous chef Robert Earl’s restaurant chains, like Bravo! Italian Kitchen. Robert Earl also leads the corporation Virtual Dining Solutions, a company created to run ghost kitchens through Earl’s restaurants.

Now, as for the meal itself?

Burger: 6/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was large and they didn’t skimp out on the toppings. I appreciate that. The sauce was delicious and had almost a ginger taste to it. It tasted better than most fast food but slightly lower than burgers around the price. It also had an onion taste (which I assume is from grilling) and I dislike onions. The bun was incredibly soft but not soggy.

Fries: 11/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The fries blew my expectations out of the water. They taste homemade in the best way! The skin is crispy while the interior tastes closer to a baked potato than a typical bland fast-food fry. These are fresh! The seasoning packs a gentle heat, I could give this to my family who hates hot spices and they could enjoy it. It’s perfectly balanced and tastes wonderful. The ketchup pairs well and helps bring out the spice.

Price: 7/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ $12 for a burger and fries before any DoorDash additional changes is quite a purchase. I think each could benefit by just being a dollar cheaper. However, the portions are large enough for me to feel it’s justified.
