#mine #i spent way too long on this. view my third 3d render #had to figure out how to export the 4-4 map and it didnt go that well #also the chair. #i didnt realize the chair was part of the 4-4 map since i went looking for the chair first #this chair isnt even from the 4-4 map. its from jaket #i done goofed trying so hard to export the throne #i kept trying to export assets instead of export models which. of course. did nothing. or exported what i wasnt looking for #learning experience... #god bless the reddit person who put all the models and shit into a ready-to-be-used blend file because that was my starting point

Kane Pixels is a genius at whatever his art might be called. Because horror is usually, like, gory ways to die that I didn't need to know could happen, stupid protagonists making stupid decisions so the stupid plot can happen, horrible things that I don't want to think about, jumpscares whose only purpose is to cheaply make something scary, etc.

Kane Pixels does none of that. Yet I cannot begin to put into words the fear, the dread, the impending feeling of doom that each of his videos brings me. And strangely enough, the wonderful and unstoppable fascination that grips me every time.

Until Kane Pixels, I never had to physically distance myself from a video in which NOTHING happens. No scary music, no jumpscare, no horrible creature, no blood, no immediate threat.

Guys. His latest video could almost be entirely pitched as: a man walks down a very long stairway.

It's stupid.

It's not scary.

I'm barely four minutes in and I had to stop at least three times because it was too much for me.

What was too much? I'm not sure. The atmosphere? The infinite possibilities of what could happen? The strange feeling that something might go wrong, while nothing really hints at anything that could go wrong? How real and casual it looks? The "hell no" I felt at first glance when that stairway appeared? Maybe all of the above. Maybe none.

The craziest is, despite all that, I WANT to know what happens next, and I keep coming back to it until I watch the whole thing. Every time.

And you know what, in any other circumstances, you'd need a pretty fucked up amount of money to convince me to watch horror for a long period of time — movie, series, video game, whatever. I don't like it, I don't see the point of it, I have a brain that more often than not gets stuck on "Can you imagine what it would actually feel like? 'Cause apparently I can and I will share this thought with you!" So yeah, horror is not my jam.

But I keep coming back to his videos because I'm so curious. I'm not even sure this qualify as "horror." It feels like so much more than that. His storytelling skills are ridiculous. He doesn't give us much. There's no need for complex elements. The thing is, it somehow awakens an old instinct from somewhere deep into my brain that tells me "run run run, something's off, this isn't right, save your life", while another part of my brain gets so excited, because "that's fascinating, I NEED to figure out whatever this is, whatever it means and how it happened."

His series about the Backrooms is insane, but his other random stuff is also beyond words.

every time something from Neil Gaiman's tumblr crosses my dash I'm so concerned about the people writing and to him like. why have you outsourced your imagination to this man? asking shit like 'what does Morpheus sound like in this scene' or 'what does this dialogue mean' or 'what's the backstory to this moment' like BABES. THIS IS WHAT BARTHES WAS TALKING ABOUT. YOU'RE MEANT TO MAKE THESE DECISIONS YOURSELVES THAT'S WHAT MAKES ALL ART A COLLABORATIVE CREATION OF MEANING. if the author wanted something to be explicit in the text they can make it explicit in the text and if it's not explicit in the text YOU CAN MAKE IT UP.

what really gets me is I 100% prommy these kids regularly use 'death of the author' to mean 'i can enjoy works by problematic creators' which 1) yes I agree you can and should (using some discretion re who it profits and what's replicated in the work) but 2) THAT'S NOT WHAT IT MEANS LITERALLY WHAT IT MEANS IS. NEIL GAIMAN'S POST HOC OPINION ON SANDMAN OR GOOD OMENS IS A NO MORE LEGITIMATE FACT ABOUT THE TEXT THAN ANYONE ELSE'S INTERPRETATION. the text has left his control it belongs to the reader now, you get to decide and debate what it means.

wanted to add this to the post hotrod's in but it was taking long enough to finish so i just said fuckit & posted it without lmao

prolly the main differences between hotrod and a classic meat car model would be cockpit placement; rather than it being tucked away under the main room, hotrods is in his skull, right above his brain(makes for faster connection)

thanks to clink's profession & interest in xenobiology, hotrod also has quite a bit of lab equipment in him, such as the big table & more varied storage outside of the default general storage

thanks to hotrod's habit of storing things(both alive & dead) to show off at a later date, the main room is pretty much always trashed lol

Made as a more or less successful exercise to emulate the style of Junnn11, the person who illustrated many of the wikipedia articles on Cambrian arthropods and Paleozoic euchelicerates (and whose art I happen to like very much).

#listen i knowwwwwwww explorers is more popular and its got more fans and itd sell well and itd be good to see it in the spotlight #i agree with all that it makes sense. but i cant help but view it as a bowsers inside story remake scenario #where its just like. kinda pointless bc the original is functionally fine #meanwhile my soul hurts when i think about how gti was kinda screwed over by its development and time #it came out during that time all 3ds games felt really janky to play so it feels awkward #and like. just compare the environments in gti compared to psmd #psmd doessss have more diverse environments to be fair but environments that should feel more grand just feel off in gti #like glacier palace doesnt look AWFUL but it hurts to see it compared to the animated version from the commercials #and like. imagine the glow up if it got the dx treatment. if the environments were all fixed and the job system was updated #and we got a larger starter pool and maybe even a postgame. ik they didnt add much to pmd dx #but that game had a fairly beefy postgame and all that while gti has.... pretty much nothing besides dlc #anyways it wont happen bc gti is the most hated pmd game by a fairly wide margin and itd piss ppl off and itd probably get a bullshit $60 #price tag #but like. i want it. i want it ok. i want to see them fix gti and bring out its full potential. i love its story sm #ik theres the demake but theyre also changing the pokemon choices there (which ik they cant help. repository doesnt have timburr and gurdur #but still) so i kinda wanna wait to see when thats done or its got all the assets
